A montyean future

Monty writes:

db comes from a different angle. I am fascinated with how he manages to combine strong religious views with his obsession with “the Cathedral”, a concept borrowed from racist blogger Curtis “Moldbug” Yarvin. The Cathedral appears to be a phrase used in a similarly conspiracist manner to “Deep State”, with a broader application to anything and everything which is embedded in small-l liberal institutions. This often sets him up in opposition to my angle, which is institutionalism as a protection for freedoms that have been hard won over reactionary forces since the days of Menzies.

There really is nothing incongruous here. ‘The Cathedral’ simply is the matrix of liberal institutions (media, universities, Hollywood, and the like) that enjoy cultural hegemony now and rigorously maintain this hegemony through their control of these major cultural institutions. The ‘Deep State’ simply is the bureaucracy, the apparatus of power that notionally acts under the control of the government and legislature, but that practically, has a life of its own. In this sense, they are terms of art; which easily allows me to distinguish it from St Patrick’s Cathedral or any other cathedral. Moreover, it is amusing that monty should find phrases like ‘the Cathedral’ or ‘Deep State’ conspiracist since he admits himself that these same institutions are coordinated toward liberal ends. But there is a problem there for him. Why does monty hide these liberal ends under a bushel? Institutionalism, on its face, should simply mean the use of structures of any sort that regulate human activity towards this or that end. But monty does not want this or that end, he wants a particular end; namely a liberal one. More to the point, neither does ‘the Cathedral’. and not only does it want liberal ends, it wants to suppress whatever it deems ‘illiberal’. And as monty continues to argue the ‘heroism’ of killing an unarmed protestor that is no threat to anyone, he simply demonstrates, again and again, that he is quite happy for you to be killed in furtherance of these ‘liberal’ ends:

If you want a vision of a montyean future, imagine a policeman shooting an unarmed protestor in the neck – forever.

Apologies to George Orwell

I know that the Australian Liberal Party has well and truly nailed their colours to the doors of The Cathedral…
But, I think that The Cat should retain the classical sense of the word “liberal”, and avoid the American and/or invective modern meaning.
“Essentially, Liberalism springs from a vision of society as crucially composed of individuals (rather than e.g., classes) in a voluntary, contractual relationship with government.” New Fontana Dictionary of Modern Thought, third ed, 1999.
Or, keep the scare quotes around “liberal” when you mean to imply “feminazi” etc. But let us not carry two opposed meanings of the one word- that way lies certain conflict and misdirection, and only the likes of monty, Terry P, ASIO, graeme etc come to the Cat wanting to foment that.

I’m with you, Dot and Wally.

(‘Twas Dot, in a mutual spar with the late, lamented IamPeter, who showed me I was a classical liberal in my thinking).

As far as m0nty is concerned, he now has acquired himself a Sampolit in the form of Steve of Brisbane. The Party obviously thinks he will go far.

We need no longer fear any morr dratted ‘libertarianism’ out of our dear Benito M0ntylini, and normal service will shortly resume…

‘The Cathedral’ simply is the matrix of liberal institutions

I call them the elite class. They work together, they play together and they marry each other. An older tag might be “Boston Brahmin”, which captures the same essence although the species has now spread right across the West.

As to the “montyean future” I’d be interested to know what he thinks about how a dusky policeman shooting without warning an unarmed white woman in a dressing gown is murder, but a dusky policeman shooting without warning an unarmed white woman in ordinary dress is not.

Dover, please stop giving oxygen to left-wing activists who have no constituency and represent no-one. Monty’s only talent was figuring out how to produce enough junk internet clicks to pay for the advertising to support a half-arsed fantasy football site patronised by socially maladjusted young males. It might as well be a porn site.

Monty’s only purpose in life is to subvert the dominant paradigm that provides our standard of living.

Unclear how it is that ‘Cathedral’ as a term naming a lawful seat of religious authority has been appropriated to denote cultural hegemony. Confusing at best, and potentially disparaging if not sinister, as would also be the case with alternatives such as Lodge or Synagogue.

Well, ‘the’ Cathedral tightens the screw to fasten meaning to that singular ex cathedra place. And therein lies the problem for this simple mind who has a fondness for that seat and prefers it not be calumniated.

Tom, monty is used here as a cipher. Monty is your stock liberal writ large.

As Tom said, a parasite.

The monty’s of the world would happily see their ideological opponents rendered down and made into soap, metaphorically and in a lot of cases literally.

Conservatives do themselves an injury when they are also constitutional conservatives; they preserve the institutions that the Left has taken over, when they really need to be torn down.

Sorry, I don’t know about Anglican derivatives, for although Anglicanism has its Cathedrals, the nature of those seats is unlike that of the one particular seat in question. Not sure. And while I may have my druthers as to who would be Pope – and yes, the man at the moment, not the Emeritus, is a worry – it is the office that has stood and will stand despite some of the flawed elect. The issue here though is really that of the ease with which it can be insinuated that the Church as such, and in its capacity as ‘The Cathedral’, The See, is implicated as a player in the current ‘cultural hegemony’. Yet ‘The Cathedral’ together with its transcendental realities belongs to the people in the Church, and is no mere ideological signifier. But I understand that something big is needed capture the idea of the hegemony at play.

I prefer “clerisy” (learned or literary people regarded as a social group or class) because it links the problem with its cause – the treachery of those in a position of power. It also links with the French “La Trahison des Clercs”, for which, from Wiki:

“In 1927, the French essayist Julien Benda published his famous attack on the intellectual corruption of the age, La Trahison des Clercs. [He used] “clerc” in “the medieval sense,” i.e., to mean “scribe,” someone we would now call a member of the intelligentsia. Academics and journalists, pundits, moralists, and pontificators of all varieties are in this sense clercs. The “treason” in question was the betrayal by the “clerks” of their vocation as intellectuals.”

This has none of the religiousness evoked by “The Cathedral”, while pointing the finger straight at the guilty parties.

As far as trying not to offend those of a religious bent by using ‘The Cathedral,’ please consider that for people like m0nty, their anti-human ideology IS their religion. Its propaganda their holy texts. And the Narratives and perjorative labels assigned to all Class Enemies their articles of faith.

From munty’s “riposte”:

Insurrections are not one of those aspects, and a domestic terrorist breaking into a secure room housing elected officials at the head of an angry and violent mob of thousands whipped up by Republican politicians to carry out a coup does not deserve martyrdom.

He is still pushing the Goebbelsian Big Lie of an unarmed “insurrection”.

To which he now adds another Big Lie of an “angry and violent mob”. Clearly the fat fascist fool did not take any notice of the “mostly peaceful” BLM/Ante-fa riots of last year, or he would have some little clue as to what “angry and violent mob” really looks like.

He lives in a fantasy world of his own mental creation, but somewhat less realistic than fantasy football.

This is exactly correct! As we all know, Trump supporters are America’s most avid second amendment proponents and prolific firearms owners. That’s why when they set out to stage an “insurrection” or a “coup” not one single one of them was armed.
You KNOW it makes sense!

Our language has been murdered, not only does the American use of “liberal” now mean totalitarian, “progressive” means regressive, and the anti-fascist street thugs are the new fascists.

Despite his apparent optimisim that Dover can be ‘won over’ to the Comrade-Thought position on the January 6th ‘unarmed insurrection’ and the The Catherdral/Clerisy/Establishment-Comprised-of-Skinsuit-Wearing-Fascists is actually a good thing cos Institutionalism, expect that no further correspondence will be entered into on the matter.

For the purity of m0nty’s Comrade-Thought is now in question. And we didn’t do a thing to him, except that Dover made him (and by extension, Sampolit Steve) think.

Remember when lefties stormed into and occupied a Senate office building in 2018 and the Wisconsin State Capitol in 2011?

JUST IN: Anti-Kavanaugh protesters take over the Hart Senate Office Bldg. atrium on Capitol Hill. https://t.co/jCIbxhTKeu pic.twitter.com/DkOgzngMh4
— MSNBC (@MSNBC) October 4, 2018

March 4, 2011 more than 75,000 leftist protestors stormed and occupied the Wisconsin State Capitol

“After causing $7.5 million in damages to the state capitol, the last of the Wisconsin protesters filed out last night, singing “Solidarity Forever.”

Oddly, nobody in the press or largely Republican government(s) screamed “insurrection”.
Nobody massively exaggerated and mis-characterized the events for disgusting political ends.
Nobody was arrested for merely attending the protests.
Nobody spent the next 8 months being abused in prison awaiting kangaroo court trials for merely attending the protests.

Oh how things have changed.
