Good luck getting your money back owners. These guys will disappear back to the mainland and fold the company leaving unpaid bills & debts. Seen similar happen in the mining consultancy game:

Makka,
I may be old and strong in arm weak in head but my parents were married.
I bet you run like a girl.

Lol. Give it up fella. Congrats on your family history. And fwiw, you sound like you are in a very high risk cohort. If ever the vaccines can be useful, it’s for people in your situation. Worth deeper consideration perhaps.

Google the first sentence and all sorts of things come up…but not this article.

They’re getting worse. I use gmail for its reliability but I won’t be doing so in a few months.

Use Gmail? Google is changing the way you log in and not everyone will like it (9 Oct)

Google has announced a huge shake-up for Gmail users – and it will change how you login to your inbox. Yes, the Californian company has confirmed plans to roll-out two-step verification (2SV) to all 150 million Google accounts.

I use an email client to get all my emails from the different servers and it is going to stop working for Gmail. Gmail already refuses VPNs I’ve found. I have not given Goolag my phone number and I do not wish to do that ever. But without a phone you’re about to be locked out of Gmail and possibly YouTube also. (YT login will be SMS verified also, but whether that extends to unlogged in viewing I don’t know.)

They everything possible about you stored safely in their nice database. And if you don’t kowtow to their lies you are made an unperson.

Google demonetizes climate skeptics and bans “denier” ads because skeptics win over too many people (9 Oct)

I saw that article yesterday Rockdoctor and thought who would buy into those?
And there was an article yesterday somewhere about suburbs where housing would not be going up in value, Melbourne suburbs mentioned were South Melbourne, Footscray and Box Hill. Of course they really mean the apartments in similar massive developments.
The Footscray ones were draped in first home buyer savings! for as long as I can remember.
Very yeah nah.

Fury intensifying in bull dyke lezzo socka circles (the Hun):

A former teammate of Lisa De Vanna has doubled down on the sensational claims of the Matildas legend and urged the football community to not confuse gender politics with the real issue – protecting junior players.

Luisa Bishop-Marzotto, a teammate of De Vanna’s in the 2001 Young Matildas, said fear had driven teammates to remain silent about a toxic culture that had allowed bullying, grooming and sexual harassment.

But worryingly, Bishop-Marzotto said some of the football community were trying to turn the conversation into a political debate of sexuality when the real issue was providing a safe environment for players.

‘Some of the football community’ want to retain their exclusive benefits, ie the never-ending Lazy Susan of fresh meat twirling before them to chew on with impunity.

“I witnessed what Lisa went through … everything Lisa said was true. She was absolutely targeted when she was teenager because she was an easy target because of her reaction,” Bishop-Marzotto said.

And this:

“I was also an outsider and also made to feel uncomfortable. I was made to feel uncomfortable in the changeroom, I would always wear my shorts and sports bra in the shower or shower back in my room because of the bullying I received, I was that uncomfortable.”

Fucking unbelievable. You are part of the national squad. Playing for your country – and you’re compelled to wear shorts and a bra in the shower because of these predatory, hideous wildebeest.

Said it the other day. All organised, competitive adult women’s sport in this country should be burnt to the ground.

Further, the moles responsible for this ongoing predation – along with the governing bodies’ officials that condoned it – should be dragged out in public and beaten with axe handles fashioned in the shape of giant penises.

You said you initially decided not to have it based on ethical grounds but now have gone ahead due to other important pressures (marriage, family).

I wholeheartedly believe it should be your choice whether to jab or not, so my question is sincere in understanding your decision process (as it may help me): what about your initial comment re ethical grounds? How did your current situation change those beliefs? (Seriously not having a go at you as I do respect your thoughts/opinions).

It sad to read on these pages instances of Cats being forced (one way or another) to take the wax. I don’t know if I will be forced to do so too at some stage.
But at this stage I have no intention of doing so and I couldn’t give a toss if others prefer to voluntarily.

Yesterday, I honoured my promise and threw my fate in with my eldest grandson. I had my first jab of Moderna. Cats will know I’m not happy about it but my position had became untenable, and I’m not about to have my 45 year marriage ruined by this bullshit.

Settling your husband’s peace of mind about your future health is something very kindly and valuable that you have done, Calli. And no doubt very settling for the rest of your family who love you too. That should balance the conscience ledger a bit for you. You may still feel they are wrong in wanting you vaxxed, but you held out long enough to make your point. I’m hoping that like most you will sail through now without any side-effects.

A 19 year old cannot be groomed.

If done by these frightful ugly beasts in packs, who have the full backing of their governing body to do so, and with the carrot of playing for their country (or not) dangled in front of them, sure they can.

Grooming does not equal consent.

De Vanna was dragged to the floor and dry humped in front of the muncher crew. She swung her way off the deck and challenged the lot to a punch on.

Because De Vanna did it doesn’t mean everyone did.

A book I am currently reading highlights how people in the West tend to be much more guilt focused

what’s the book Bong John … it sounds interesting.

anyway, we used to be more guilt-based but have you noticed how all the kiddies and leftoids are speaking a shame-based rhetoric lately?

It’s usually driven by a false dichotomy like the one Mong Elliot gave David Limbrick on 3AW the other day. (unfortunately I was a passenger in the missus’s car and had to suffer it)

its the same form of false dichotomy that the GPs are given. and the lie is ‘its for the greater good’
the motive … well the motive is to isolate and stun you in place under their benevolent auspice

like this:
You have a choice, do you keep your voice in The House, or do you stand on principle.
You have a choice, do you stay a practicing GP, or do you stand on principle.

Gab, I stated on another thread a while back that I would accept another “vaxx” but not AZ because of the foetal line issue contained within the vaccine.

In saying that, I fully acknowledged that foetal tissue is used in testing of so many products we use daily that, for my part, I am mired in the hideous trade regardless of what I do. I know that Moderna and Pfizer tested their vaxxes on foetal cells. So do companies producing cosmetics, food additives, dyes and any number of other products used by humans.

So I drew a line in the sand. Where you draw the line will be different to me. For instance, you may eschew some detergents or soft drinks or face cream because you know of the testing regime parts of these products are subjected to. That is completely fair and reasonable if it troubles your conscience.

Fucking unbelievable. You are part of the national squad. Playing for your country – and you’re compelled to wear shorts and a bra in the shower because of these predatory, hideous wildebeest.

That sounds about right when in a predatory environment. In a public Japanese women-only onsen bath I was at first a little shy but soon became extremely comfortable stark naked in the company of Japanese women of all ages and body types, from grannies to pre-teens. But it would have been a different story if any of them had been sexually leering at me. Lesbians know how to behave in all-female change rooms just as other women do, there is considerable modesty and plenty of discretion, and some woman in authority should be reading the riot act to them about the need for this in women’s sports environments too.

Yes, I have recently heard about other products that have used fetal cell lines in testing and I now avoid those products if I am aware of them. It’s a long list for sure.

What a world we live in when animals are not to be used to test cosmetics but fetal cell lines derived from aborted babies sees no campaign from the usual ”activists” against cruelty to animals.

Again, Calli, thank you for your reply, it has helped me.

It’s often said that smokers can be extremely sensitive to their habit. I can see why;

“The virus that causes COVID-19 could get into the lungs and normally might be destroyed by the protective epithelial cells. But in people who smoke, the virus may be able to latch on to all those extra ACE2 receptors often found in smokers. This allows the virus to overwhelm and destroy healthy lung cells and then multiply quickly inside the patient,” said Zab Mosenifar, MD, pulmonologist and the Geri and Richard Brawerman Chair in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Cedars-Sinai.

Perhaps the Cardio professionals are wrong, and some blog ninny Finance (minor) knows better. I wouldn’t trust a commission agent however.

lol, Arky. For those who need a refresher on Howl and the Beatnik era of the 1950’s:

I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked,
dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix,
angelheaded hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night,
who poverty and tatters and hollow-eyed and high sat up smoking in the supernatural darkness of cold-water flats floating across the tops of cities contemplating jazz

The nanowrigglers have always been around. Ask Birdie.
Sometimes you don’t even need the fix.
Later in this long poem Ginsberg references studying Blake. Well, you would, wouldn’t you? That ‘ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night’ is right up there with some of the best mystical poetry, albeit with an industrial twist.

We need to acknowledge a few things here.
We’re biased. Every single one of us.
And one of the things that causes us bias is our own decisions.
So when and if I decide to take a vaxx, I will subsequently look at the information landscape coming at me differently from how I look at it now as I continue to decide to hold off.
In both cases I will tend to discount information that goes against my decision. This is unavoidable, and the only way I can ameliorate the situation is to make a conscious effort to put aside time to deliberately consider the contrary case.
Which is why I have previously put up posts asking for comments that do that.
The other thing I have to do is when those like Rosie or JC put their cases, is try not to get annoyed.
And vice versa.
The bias is there, we all have it, we all have it based on our decisions, we have to deal with it in real time on this blog as comments, links and quotes are coming at us.
We also, at the same time, have to combat the overwhelming monolithic nature of the mainstream media pushing the government line on everything, PLUS take into account that some of the “alternatives” might not be being put forward in good faith either.
Although I think the data proves me 99% correct about vaccines doing jack shit (given that we are still in lockdown with the vast majority of citizens vaccinated, and 90%+ of oldies vaxxed, you can’t argue the things have done what you (and I) had hoped they might), I still do not want anyone to base a personal health decision on any dumb thing I might say. But at the same time, the entire might of the establishment is doing precisely that, so you can’t stay entirely neutral given that situation.
It’s all very, very difficult.

From the Oz. Evidence from pre-epidemic database that Cov-Sars-2 is laboratory-bred.

Where did Covid-19 come from? The answer can be found in the SARS-CoV-2 virus itself. To get to the truth, we need only unleash the power of science.

Based on experience with SARS-1 in 2003 and MERS in 2012, we know that many people are infected by a host animal long before a coronavirus mutates to the point where it can jump from human to human.

An extensive data set from late 2019 — more than 9000 hospital samples — is available of people exhibiting flulike (thus Covid-like) symptoms in China’s Hubei and Shaanxi provinces before the epidemic started. Based on SARS-1 and MERS, the natural zoonotic theory predicts 100 to 400 Covid infections would be found in those samples.

The lab-leak hypothesis, of course, predicts zero. If the novel coronavirus were engineered by scientists pursuing gain-of-function research, there would be no instances of community infection until it escaped from the laboratory. The World Health Organisation investigation analysed those stored samples and found zero pre-pandemic infections. This is powerful evidence favouring the lab-leak theory.

Shut up, they explained.

Mexican science board tells researchers: don’t criticize (9 Oct)

Mexico’s newly politicized government science board has reportedly ordered researchers not to publicly criticize the body, and said they have to clear any public comments through its press office.

The council was already under fire after it helped prosecutors try to lock up 31 academics in a maximum security prison usually reserved for drug lords.

Part of the problem is that the current director of the government science board, María Álvarez-Buylla, appears to be trying to inject the politics of López Obrador’s administration—which he calls “the fourth transformation”—into science.

In a letter reportedly accompanying the new rules, Álvarez-Buylla told council members and researchers that employees “should not only be outstanding professionals, but also should have a commitment to society, the environment, human rights, and above all the public ethics promoted by the Fourth Transformation.”

It doesn’t help that Mexico’s attorney general, Alejandro Gertz Manero, decided to bring the most serious possible charges—money laundering, organized crime and embezzlement—against people who had no criminal records and are respected in their professions, and sought to put them in the country’s most-feared prison, which is normally used to house drug lords.

And more from this article:

Within months of the SARS-1 and MERS outbreaks, scientists found animals that had hosted the viruses before they made the jump to humans. More than 80 per cent of the animals in affected markets were infected with a coronavirus. In an influential March 2020 paper in Nature Medicine, Kristian Andersen and co-authors implied that a host animal for SARS-CoV-2 would soon be found. If the virus had been cooked up in a lab, of course, there would be no host animal to find.

The WHO team searched for a host in early 2020, testing more than 80,000 animals from 209 species, including wild, domesticated and market animals. Not a single animal infected with SARS-CoV-2 was found. This finding strongly favours the lab-leak theory. We can only wonder if the results would have been different if the animals tested had included the humanised mice kept at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

READ MORE:Wuhan in early shopping spree for test kits|Five Eyes call laid Wuhan intelligence trap for Beijing|Wuhan journalist back after 600 days|Why Wuhan could be China’s Chernobyl
A coronavirus adapts for its host animal. It takes time to perfect itself for infecting humans. But a pathogen engineered via accelerated evolution in a laboratory using humanised mice would need no additional time after escape to optimise for human infection. In their Nature Medicine paper, Andersen and colleagues pointed to what they considered the poor design of SARS-CoV-2 as evidence of zoonotic origin. But a team of American scientists mutated the stem of the coronavirus genome in nearly 4000 different ways and tested each variation. In the process they actually stumbled on the Delta variant. In the end, they determined that the original SARS-CoV-2 pathogen was 99.5 per cent optimised for human infection — strong confirmation of the lab-leak hypothesis.

All good reasons for some very firm controls to be placed on gain-of-function research which has kept an international cabal of academic back-scratchers in publications and funding for no good purpose for too long. Send them to the coal mines, I say.

The ability of SARS-CoV but not SARS-CoV-2 to replicate in R. sinicus kidney cells, consistent with previous findings (12), may suggest a different evolutionary origin and path of SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV was most closely related to SARSr-Rs-BatCoVs from Yunnan, China, suggesting R. sinicus as its primary origin. It could also use Rs-ACE2 as receptor for cell entry (13), which may explain the efficient replication of SARS-CoV in R. sinicus kidney cells. Although SARS-CoV-2 is closely related to SARSr-CoVs in bats and pangolins, none of the existing animal viruses represents the immediate ancestor of SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2 was most closely related to SARSr-Ra-BatCoV-RaTG13 (96.1% genome identity) in Rhinolophus affinis from Pu’er, Yunnan (2), except that its RBD region was closest to pangolin-SARSr-CoV-MP789 (86.9% nucleotide identity) in smuggled pangolins from Guangdong, suggesting that SARS-CoV-2 may have evolved through recombination (3). The inability of SARS-CoV-2 to efficiently infect and replicate in R. sinicus cells may imply that R. sinicus bats were unlikely to be its proximal origin. However, bats are the primary origin of SARS-CoV, human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E), and probably MERS-CoV; therefore, SARS-CoV-2 most likely originated from bats. One possibility is that SARS-CoV-2 has restricted bat species tropism. Other bat species, such as R. affinis, may harbor the ancestor of SARS-CoV-2 and can be tested for cellular susceptibilities in future studies. It is also possible that SARS-CoV-2 can no longer replicate in bat cells because of substantial genetic adaptation, such as through natural evolution in an intermediate host before infecting humans.

On September 10, freshman Olivia Cook attended Sheng’s composition seminar. The course that year was going to analyze the works of William Shakespeare, and Sheng’s first class featured the 1965 film “Othello,” which featured actor Laurence Olivier wearing blackface. Sheng told the Daily that he showed the film to highlight how opera composer Giuseppe Verdi had adapted the play. Sheng told the outlet that cross-casting happens regularly in opera and didn’t see Olivier’s performance “the same as the minstrel performances which did degrade African Americans.”

“I thought [that] in most cases, the casting principle was based on the music quality of the singers,” Sheng wrote to the paper. “Of course, time [sic] has changed, and I made a mistake in showing this film. It was insensitive of me, and I am very sorry.”

I’ve seen a lot of it in the workplace.

Two things going on here:-
1. They have latched on to a smart young thing who was always going to do well, with or without “mentoring” but the mentor gets to bask in the reflected glory; and/or
2. The self fulfilling prophecy. The young tyke chosen for mentoring gets on precisely because it would be heresy not to promote the chosen one or rate them highly.
Example.
I had a young-ish guy (late 20’s) assigned to me for a special project a couple of years back.
After several late deliveries of sub-par material, I went for a chat with his regular boss, to ask what this guy’s problem was.

Fancy new drugs coming on the market.

The World Health Organization made history this week by recommending a lifesaving malaria vaccine for African children. The vaccine is known by its scientific name RTS,S and made and sold by GlaxoSmithKline as Mosquirix. It is not only the first vaccine approved for malaria—it is the first vaccine for any human parasitic disease. Targeting Plasmodium falciparum, the most common and deadly form of malaria, RTS,S was first tested in human volunteers at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research 30 years ago.

Why did it take so long to make a vaccine against malaria? The disease has caused more death throughout human history than any other single cause, and still kills nearly a half-million people every year. It took less than a year to make effective vaccines against Covid-19. But parasites are far bigger and more complex than their tiny distant cousins, viruses and bacteria. If a virus is like a fire ant, the malaria parasite is a crocodile. Tried-and-true approaches that gave us vaccines against viruses like polio and bacterial diseases like typhoid fever yielded duds when applied to the wily and wicked malaria parasite.

RTS,S looked promising in early testing, protecting 86% of volunteers against experimental malaria infection at Walter Reed. But it had a tougher time in Africa, where its efficacy ranged from 20% to 50% in field trials. A large Phase 3 efficacy trial also turned up some ambiguous evidence of possible side effects, including a suggestion of higher risk of bacterial meningitis in vaccinated children. And with the final regimen consisting of four doses delivered between the ages of 6 months and 2 years, would it even be feasible to deliver RTS,S to kids in the rural African villages who need it most?

The Phage:

The Andrews government is set to consider scaling back the powers of the state’s unelected Chief Health Officer and giving the Health Minister greater control over public health orders to manage the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost two years into the crisis, as the state prepares to ease restrictions and learn to live with the virus, Labor MPs are now asking when elected officials will get the ultimate power to sign off on public health orders.

The timing says everything. Sutton is the fall guy for all the harshness, and the Labor party will take the credit for all the “freedoms” being “given” back.

Perhaps if every such order had to be submitted to parliament and voted on by that body and then sent to the senate for those states that have a senate and voted on and once passed by both bodies, sent to the governor of the state and promulgated as a short term law. Then it maybe ok. Otherwise you would just replace one fascist with another.

That’s why “mentoring” has to be highly structured, completely transparent and accountable. It can sometimes devolve into an unhealthy co-dependency ripe for abuse. A lot of this sort of stuff is not on busy parents’ radars.

Yep.
I am sure many elderly folks harbour guilt for letting their son off on a days outing with the local swimming coach, scoutmaster or priest back in the ’70’s, only to find later that it led to abuse.
With 5, 6 or 7 other kids, who wouldn’t take up that offer?

While the ‘unaware’ ‘busy parent’ part can often be the case, I really wish people would pay more attention to those, ‘poor & struggling parents’ who ‘sacrificed’ to give their children ‘the best education & opportunities’ and then somehow those poor parents get very lucky in life while their children end up ‘dead inside’ or literally dead from suicides.

In Unintended Comedy news:

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says the government is not joking over plans to regulate social media

“The motivation is now there at the federal level in Australia, at the highest level in the United States, in other corners of the globe, to say: ‘we’ve had enough, you can’t treat us like fools. You think we’re joking, we’re not’,” Mr Joyce told the ABC’s PM program.

“This time, something’s going to happen,”

Mr Joyce said legislation to curtail the power of social media giants would be put on the table “soon.”

“It’s rare when a prime minister and a deputy prime minister in basically an unscripted way both have the same messages on virtually the same day and so the impetus is there,” he said.

Somehow I doubt that a regulatory initiative by the Beetrooter and his stupid mate is going to improve free speech in Australia, far less other “corners of the globe”.

Old Faustus’ Prediction: A federal election arises and a brisk geoblocking of SM platforms by Oligarchs leads to an embarrassing backdown. The Eye of Moron will then focus on the Blogosphere.

Started watching a nature documentary the other day and had not noticed it was one of David Attenborough’s.

Egad, how far he has sunk. It is like watching someone sinking into a sea: silent, shrinking, growing less distinct and losing colour as they go beyond the reach of the light and the deep’s blackness begins to engulf them.

There was an indisputable resemblance to his old shows, but weakening and fading.

Each segment started with the accustomed, and captivating, photography with rich narration, but the wonder was not there any more.

Instead the segment would jarringly change direction, sounding a dire warning of the rapacity of mankind. Occasionally there was a salute to the heroic conservationists who had managed to coax politicians to cordon off some small stretch of land or sea where life rebounded with astonishing fecundity, but that this was barely a dent in mankind’s ravaging of the planet.

Global warming, overfishing, poaching, bleaching corals – a parade of the usual villains.

At the end he would implore viewers to help ‘us’, and direct them to the World Wildlife Fund websites.

Just sad.

Dot, Meta studies are often used to promote fakenews and they only as good as their source.

1. why were the studies chosen
2. How were the studies chosen
3. How robust were the studies chosen

Look, you’re right but you shouldn’t be. Meta analysis should really prove or disprove a theory. The problem is (and may have always been) that research is dripping with bias now.

On the other hand, the Cathedral deboonking of IVM is total BS.

Have a look at the wiki article on the matter. I don’t believe a deboonking unless you can specifically and forensically explain the deboonking.

In short, your results should be replicable as well; what the bad meta study or bad studies within the meta study apparently cannot do.

There is nothing wrong with metastudies. They’re used like literature reviews to take an overview of past work re X or Y. Metastudies typically weight for 3. , and 1. and 2. would be explained in the methods. Typically, they wouldn’t choose this or that study, they’d include any research study on X or Y.

Meta studies are fine if used honestly, but they aren’t. They’re the equivalent of push polling. Every individual study needs to be examined carefully to see if it being used properly. Most people don’t as they haven’t the time.
