If you were to combine that with what I’m told is the insular environment those in TV land work in (the obvious example is that swamp donkey Wilkinson), then it’s not surprising that these talking heads see themselves as influencers, rather than people tasked with reading the news.
As with social media influencers, it would not surprise me one little bit if I was to learn that these mediocre people were copping a sling from ‘interested parties’.

Back in the early eighties when I was still young and single I used to watch the first half hour of nein’s morning show to get the weather update so I would know whether or not to take off the horses rugs. Occasionally on a day off I would watch for an hour or so, but I stopped watching completely when Steve Leibman retired. I liked him.

I don’t subscribe and I haven’t bought a dead tree version since the pandemic stupidity started last year.
Never subscribes, the last time I read a copy was sitting in a coffee shop waiting for the beloved to finish her medical appointment, around the middle of last year. It was still relatively sane then, but now seems from all reports to be suffering from GWGB syndrome.
Always a great mystery to me why TV networks put so much into breakfast TV. The viewer numbers are low, and most of those aren’t really engaged. It’s just background noise while they get ready for the day. Network PR people then spend the rest of the day planting clickbait “You Won’t Believe Karl’s Jawdropping Takedown of Pauline Hanson” promo stories in the Daily Mail. Not sure why they bother.
