Seems to me Italy and France very swiftly changed isolation rules for those testing positive, and Italy abolished them altogether for so called close contacts (until symptomatic) so there appears to be no disruption in supply of food etc.

It looks like the tsunami was just small enough not to cause really serious inundation, and the volcanic eruption looks like a phreatomagmatic explosion like Krakatau in 1883. The Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha’apai volcano started out as a submarine volcano, and there were some amazing photos of it erupting up through the sea some years ago. Right now it is pretty much at sea level, so it looks like during the recent eruptive episode it had seawater come into the vent. Big steam explosion.
Still possibility of many fatalities, especially since Krakatau didn’t stop with one titanic explosion: it had four of them one after another. This volcano could potentially go off big time in hours or days.

It has a bit to run yet. Don’t write his team off. First win is the selection of panel of three Federal judges instead of one. Remember the Federal Court us no friend of Liberal governments. If there are grounds to reject Alex Hawke’s decision – they will do it without hesitation.
Personally, I think the reasoning behind his decision is laughable. I mean, really, public order & public health? So many holes it is Swiss cheese. And can you deny a valid medical argument of acquired immunity on the grounds that it might influence others to follow?

The other good thing is Nuku’alofa pretty much the closest population to that volcano – no nearer populated islands (Goolag maps linky: zoom out to see Nuku’alofa to the south). So if the capital gets out of it well then it should be a pretty good outcome in light of how big this is. Looks Bikini Atoll level big.
Unfortunately there probably were fishermen and tourist boats closer to the volcano. I don’t like their chances.

Looking at heading to Thailand to visit my sister for a few weeks, then on to Japan around August – September.
I normally book direct but I am using a travel agent for flights to make sure I don’t get snagged (or cover that off as best I can).
Their advice is that there shouldn’t be a problem.
Interestingly their advice was that return flights into Sydney would be preferred over Melbourne or Brisbane because of “political risk”.
Suits me fine as we need to visit relos in Siddy anyway. -

More good news! What a stunner of a photo. The geo team watching weren’t in any danger (lucky!) whilst being perfectly placed (lucky^2!) and there’s nothing on the sea surface between them and the crater. So looks like the fishermen and tourists were warned away earlier. Also the eruption has mostly gone up not outward, since the volcanic surges only are covering the island itself – which is just a couple of kilometres long. Krakatau was sinking ships five or ten ks away, and one ship ended up several ks inland carried by the tsunami.

I was referring to the reality.Anyone who has dealt with the Australian government soon learns representations on the brochure are as reliable as hooker’s promise.

Which is perfect, since Omicron does appear to give a protective immunological response to the other strains whilst being about as benign as you can get. The true nutter is Sneakers, who is trying to hold back a tide of sniffles.

Eyrie said that the vax causes negative efficacy. Your link does not show if people are catching the same variant twice. My point is it doesn’t and your link doesn’t demonstrate this. Does you link allow for or explain that more people are vaxxed than those that aren’t ? Also, is the chart capturing data for the Omni variant?
JC, it gives an infection rate per 100,000 so yes it does account for more vaxxed in population. The stuff about same variant is a distraction, if vaxxed are getting COVID at higher rate than unvaxxed, who are the control, then it does indicate negative efficacy. Lastly, yes, it captures omi but we saw exactly the same thing three months ago with delta.
