Yeah, exactly.

Putin didn’t make 200 bn by investing after he read some blog posts by Warren Buffet (Mr Integrity).

There’s so many could have beens, but a compete lack of statesmen to have seen them succeed.

What Peter Hitchens wrote of the elites who led Europe into WWI – from memory, “they were greedy and stupid and had no idea of the damage they could do” – applies equally to Western leaders in the post Cold War period. Trump excepted.

Sure Russia is corrupt but is the establishment there at war with the Russian people like in most western countries? My view is that the current abomination that has re asserted control in the US is punishing Americans – open borders, cross dressing admirals, expensive fuel and so on. A punishment and a warning.

Nothing that occurs in the Ukraine justifies this Russian monster’s invasion.

That’s the spirit, bons, keep both eyes firmly in the rear view mirror.

What about the future? Two corrupt eastern European shitholes going at it with the chance of one having a few US funded labs taken out, their corrupt government with globalist Democrat and European ties being taken down and yet more ammo against the government media machine. This may be the only chance that there is a strike at the heart of the swamp, where their money is.

The fact that people still believe this is a good v bad game are pathetically naive, but hey, someone has to buy yellow and blue lights and today’s crisis Facebook picture filters. Social media influencers lives matter too.

Russian gas still transiting Ukraine to European hubs.

It’s been fun to watch. A few months ago Gazprom had technical problems (as you do) and ceased pumping any gas at all to the EU. The pipeline through Ukraine was running backwards, drawing gas from storage for domestic needs.

I think that was Putin trying to ratchet leverage by depleting the EU storage levels. Winter though hasn’t been too frigid this year and the US frackers diverted lots of Asia-destined tankers to Europe to take advantage of high prices and short distances.

Now though we’re in a situation where Ukraine wants to keep the EU as sweet as they can, so they ain’t going to interrupt gas flows to the EU. And Russia wants to keep EU from being too unhappy, so they are supplying all the gas the Euroweenies need. It’s very popcornworthy.

Emailed my local federal member this morning:
Dear Garth,

I heard on the news yesterday that our PM was going to send our tax money to buy weapons for Ukraine.

Why? Does this man not have to sense to know when to shut up? A few platitudes saying the situation was terrible and the fighting should stop was all that was required. IT ISN’T OUR FIGHT. We were not asked if we wanted to have our money spent in this way.

It looks like his ineptitude will condemn us to the horrors of a green oriented Labor government. That sort of thing has worked out well in the United States hasn’t it? In just over a year the place is a wreck with numerous problems, all of which work their way through to destabilise the world.

Is there any reason I should vote for the LNP in the upcoming election?

As to popcornworthyness, I hate war and all its horrors. As a keen reader of history I know the horrors. Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent said Azimov, and there’s a bit of truth to that. What is also true is there are lots of incompetent leaders with egos the size of a planet, and they really really hate losing face.

I’ll leave it with this other quote:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

I don’t regard Putin as incompetent, but it’s starting to look like he has had his Pickett’s Charge moment.

New paper dealing with the core AGW issue of what caused the undisputed increase in CO2 concentration over the last 200 years. From the Abstract:

Our results show that the percentage of the total CO2 due to the use of fossil fuels from 1750 to 2018 increased from 0% in 1750 to 12% in 2018, much too low to be the cause of global warming.

With all that’s happening OS & locally, it’s a bit passé, I suppose, to revert to the scourge of the vaccinations. But a family occurrence reminded me that we are far from “out of the woods”.

Yesterday, son-in-law had building job going on at home & was whacked on head by falling timber. The only person available to take him, half conscious, to hospital was teenage son. The latter, vaccinated of course, later on began to have chest pains – from the stress as father went in & out of consciousness, bleeding heavily. Now grandson, a very fit athlete, is no striking violet …….so I immediately thought of the myocarditis now striking very fit young men…….

He is fine this morning, but it made me concerned – though I don’t think anyone in the household connected the dots.

Mine has had them since I moved into the area, but even though they always keep some homines sapientes at the registers a lot of people opt for the self-check out.

I prefer the check out myself.

Now do love of your life Euromaidan coup funding (hiding in exile) ex-PM Petro Poroshenko, or your fantasy girl ex-PM Yulia Tymoshenko and her net worth in 2010. Do all of the pro-EU Ukraine oligarch cronies and ex-presidents and ex-PM’s in Ukraine that were involved in the Euromaidan coup de tat that you love so much and think should be allowed to run Ukraine by force and topple their opposition elected governments using billions of dollars of stolen money and their private neo-nazi militia’s there whenever they feel like it.

Tell us how they made their hundreds of millions and billions.

Oh yes that’s right, it’s always energy companies, and skimming off the top while in government during the “deals” they made with Russia. The same companies that gave half of the US democrat’s children million dollar a year no-show boardroom jobs after the coup that you fully supported.

But the thing is, I know you know all of this. Because in 2014 we argued it all to death and you said ultimately that none of it matters, your support for Ukraine isn’t for Ukraine, it’s against Russia. And it started the moment that the cultural left declared war on Putin when Russia announced it was walking back from “western values” aka homo supremacy, and started openly playing culture wars.

In 2014 the US and EU/ Germany backed Euromaidan coup, installed Euromaidan’s long time major funder and darling of the “west” “pro EU” Ukrainian billionaire oligarch Petro Poroshenko into power as President where he “governed” until 2019. The legitimate elected president of Ukraine that his violent coup overthrew fled to exile in Russia.

What nobody seems to know about, or people like dot who do won’t speak about because it’s because this is apparently fact-free Covid redux, is that the current Ukraine “president” – the one in all the fake photo’s floating around – when he secured power in 2019, immediately accused Poroshenko – Euromaidan Revolutionary Hero and Dot’s BFF, of treason. And declared him…wait for it….to be a Secret Russian Stooge and initiated criminal proceedings against him.

This is a pretty bad look don’t you think?

So Poroshenko – who in 2014 was the Chosen One of the US and EU and oligarchs in Ukraine during Euromaidan (and man you should have heard dot go on about him at the time like the second coming of christ), the chosen puppet to rule Ukraine after he helped overthrow the last actual legitimate government there accusing it of being too “pro russian”, was forced to flee to…..Russia!. And has been living there (presumably in the same street as the ex-president he forced to flee to Russia), in exile.

Moth attacks will millions.

Rash-causing moth spreading due to warming, scientists find (27 Feb)

A forest pest that bedevils Maine residents and tourists with hairs that cause an itchy rash appears to be spreading due to warming temperatures, a group of scientists has found.

The browntail moth is a scourge in America’s most forested state, where it defoliates trees and causes a rash in humans that resembles poison ivy. The hairs of the caterpillars, which have been the subject of an outbreak in the state for about seven years, can also cause respiratory trouble.

The growth and spread of the moth is tied to increasingly warm weather, especially in the fall, the scientists wrote recently in the journal Environmental Entomology. And, unfortunately, climate trends suggest upcoming years could be even worse, they wrote.

Anyone have global warming induced poisonous moths on their 2022 bingo card?

Apparently we’re in a plastics crisis, which is interesting since I hadn’t noticed this before now.

More than 100 nations convening in Nairobi next week are expected to take the first steps toward establishing a historic global treaty to tackle the plastic crisis afflicting the planet.

Plastic has been found in Arctic sea ice, the bellies of whales and Earth’s atmosphere, and governments have been under increasing pressure to unite in action against the global scourge.

UN to agree on plan for ‘historic’ plastics treaty (26 Feb)

Salmon have feelings too.

Major hurdle cleared in plan to demolish 4 California dams (26 Feb)

Federal regulators on Friday issued a draft environmental impact statement saying there were significant benefits to a plan to demolish four massive dams on Northern California’s Klamath River to save imperiled migratory salmon, setting the stage for the largest dam demolition project in U.S. history.

A final environmental impact statement would allow the extensive preparations necessary for the nearly $500 million demolition and habitat restoration plan to begin in earnest. Dam removals could begin as early as next year if all goes smoothly, but a more likely scenario is 2024.

California really does overachieve in crazy.

The Scientific American, 2018:

Our seas are choking on plastic. A staggering eight million metric tons wind up in oceans every year, and unraveling exactly how it gets there is critical. A recent study estimates that more than a quarter of all that waste could be pouring in from just 10 rivers, eight of them in Asia.

And:

The results, published last November in Environmental Science & Technology, show that rivers collectively dump anywhere from 0.47 million to 2.75 million metric tons of plastic into the seas every year, depending on the data used in the models. The 10 rivers that carry 93 percent of that trash are the Yangtze, Yellow, Hai, Pearl, Amur, Mekong, Indus and Ganges Delta in Asia, and the Niger and Nile in Africa.

The Yangtze alone dumps up to an estimated 1.5 million metric tons of plastic waste into the Yellow Sea.

Not likely Roger.

By analyzing the waste found in the rivers and surrounding landscape, researchers were able to estimate that just 10 river systems carry between 88 and 99% of the plastic that ends up in the ocean from rivers.

Eight of them are in Asia: the Yangtze; Indus; Yellow; Hai He; Ganges; Pearl; Amur; Mekong; and two in Africa – the Nile and the Niger.

If you can tell China and India to clean up their acts you will be doing well.

Around 90% of all river-borne plastic that ends up in the ocean comes from just 10 rivers (2018)

Quel horreur!

I finally got a response to my month-old(?) query to NSW arts minister asking why the Museum and Art Gallery of NSW were requiring vaccine for entry, long after the government had lifted any such restrictions.

It seems to the Arts minister pinged it down to “Create NSW” (who knew another level of waste and government inefficiency existed?) .. who then had a functionary drone draft something (Author of the PDF), which was signed off by their (lawyer) ED.

Of course the words contain nothing of any worth – just a side-stepping of the issue at hand.

Dear Mr ,
Thank you for your correspondence of 4 February 2022 to the Minister for the Arts, the Hon Ben Franklin MLC regarding vaccination and conditions of entry policies for the Art Gallery of NSW and the Australian Museum. The Minister has asked me to reply to you on his behalf.
The Art Gallery of NSW and the Australian Museum currently require proof of vaccination as a condition of entry to their buildings. Since 15 December 2021, it has been a requirement for venue managers to manage the risk of COVID-19 to workers and others in the work environment as part of their adherence to workplace health and safety laws.
In this regard, some venues may choose to require people to be fully vaccinated or to wear a mask as a condition of entry. It is a matter for the occupier of each premises to exercise judgement on what is appropriate for their premises and the wellbeing of their staff, customers and visitors.
If you seek to attend premises where an occupier has chosen to require you to be fully vaccinated, the occupier may ask to see your vaccination evidence. You do not have to show the occupier your vaccination evidence, but if you do not, the occupier may not let you in.
The health, safety and wellbeing of staff, visiting artists and visitors is paramount and the State’s Cultural Institutions including the Art Gallery of NSW and the Australian Museum will continue to monitor the situation and update their policies as required. You may also wish to note that each Cultural Institution has a range of digital programs and resources available for those unable to attend venues in person.
Thank you for taking the time to raise this issue with the Government.
Yours sincerely
Chris Keely
Executive Director

btw – both institutions have now dropped their vaccine requirement for entry.. so this is too little, too late.

CNN Ukraine War Correspondent Admits Producers Scour Social Media for Content to Broadcast
February 27, 2022 | Sundance | 56 Comments

CNN ‘War Correspondent’ Clarissa Ward accidentally explained why the public is confused about what the corporate media are saying about the Ukraine war with Russia, compared to what is actually visible about the Ukraine war with Russia.

During a segment with Brian Stelter, Ms Ward explained how CNN war corresponding in Ukraine consists of talking about material provided to her by CNN production crews who sit and scour through YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and social media posts to find the input material for their stories.
Clarissa Ward didn’t mean to expose how the propaganda of modern warfare is created, but she did.

Ward was thanking the people in the background of CNN who search social media for their Ukraine content; however, in talking about what they do, she affirmed what we already knew was taking place.

People wondering why there is no visible ‘fight’ in this war, now find the baseline which Deputy National Security Advisor Daleep Singh was talking about last week. The State Department, intelligence community and political participants in the U.S. government are constructing the “war” against Vladimir Putin through the prism social likeability as a cultural weapon.

When the goal is to produce content that tells the “better story,” social media becomes the battlefield. War corresponding is reduced to using the corporate media platform to enhance the social media battlefield. Essentially you might call this “World War Reddit.”

“Long COVID” seems to me not unlike “Post-viral syndrome” that has been affecting people for years after illnesses such as flu or Epstein-Barr virus. It is characterised by severe fatigue and often muscle & joint pain (myalgia). “Long COVID” certainly seems to be characterised by fatigue, and also “brain fog” which I guess is mental lethargy. The latter was mentioned by Dr. Robert Malone as one of his symptoms.

Businessman banned from golf club after ‘vulgar and disrespectful’ behaviour towards female bartender
The West Australian

Caitlyn Rintoul

One of Perth’s most prestigious golf clubs has banned a prominent WA businessman over “vulgar and disrespectful” behaviour towards a female bartender after a round.

Lake Karrinyup Country Club announced the move in an email to members after the incident involving the mining industry executive, who visited the club on Friday, February 18, as the guest of a member.

The golfer and his host were immediately asked to leave the clubhouse and both their clubs began an investigation.

It’s understood Lake Karrinyup has banned the visiting businessman for three years and suspended its member for three months.

In its email Lake Karrinyup reminded members that they “were responsible for the behaviour of their guests at our club”.

“Last Friday, a member’s guest behaved inappropriately towards one of our staff that can only be deemed as vulgar and disrespectful,” the club said.

Wivenhoe has (for example) almost 3x the capacity for flood mitigation, and is at something like 200% storage at the moment.

Riddle me this.
Why doesn’t the dam overflow when water levels reach 100%?
Surely 100% = full.

There is extra holding capacity for flood mitigation purposes available to them, Old School.

So they’re 82.19% above the normal operating level atm, which would be the 100% figure, or c. 1 million megalitres. Thankfully, the rainfall in the catchment area has eased.

Salmon have feelings too.

Major hurdle cleared in plan to demolish 4 California dams (26 Feb)

Federal regulators on Friday issued a draft environmental impact statement saying there were significant benefits to a plan to demolish four massive dams on Northern California’s Klamath River to save imperiled migratory salmon, setting the stage for the largest dam demolition project in U.S. history.

How long have the dams been in place? What is the life cycle of the migratory salmon? If the former is multiples of the latter, how can it be argued that they are merely endangered? Surely they would by now be extinct if the Klamath is so important to their life cycle?

And a very minor question, how will those (presumably in California) who rely on the dams for their water supply, avoid extinction?

The Australian government’s announcement Monday gave no details on what material it may be sending. The move follows an offer on Friday of non-lethal military equipment, medical supplies and a $3 million contribution to a NATO trust fund for support of the besieged country.”

Thanks Duncan. That’s logical.
I had a look at Seqwater’s web site and they explain the difference between drinking water storage capacity and extra water that is stored in the flood storage compartment.

Still, a bland “180% of capacity” conjures up images of overflowing dam walls to me.

SAS soldier tells court he was ‘in shock’ after claiming Ben Roberts-Smith kicked Afghan villager down ’drop’
Perry Duffin
Senior Court Reporter

NCA NewsWire
2 minutes ago February 28, 2022

An SAS soldier has told a court he watched Ben Roberts-Smith kick a handcuffed Afghan down a steep drop, shattering his face on a rock below, minutes before the villager was executed by another Australian troop.

Mr Roberts-Smith is suing Nine newspapers and journalists over a series of articles alleging he killed six unarmed and captive Afghans while deployed with the SAS.

The Victoria Cross recipient denies each and every allegation made by Nine – and the newspapers are arguing a truth defence.

Nine’s centrepiece allegation is that Mr Roberts-Smith was involved in the execution of a captured shepherd, named Ali Jan, at the village of Darwan in September 2012.

An SAS squadmate, known only as Person 4, told the Federal Court on Monday Mr Roberts-Smith had stripped his body armour and crossed a river en route to Darwan to engage a suspected Taliban spotter.

Mr Roberts-Smith was dripping in river water when he shot the armed insurgent, Person 4 told the court, and the SAS began moving into Darwan.

Nine claims that it was toward the end of the raid on Darwan that Mr Roberts-Smith’s patrol handcuffed Mr Jan, emptied his pockets and searched his donkey that was carrying firewood.

Detaining fighting aged males, to search and determine if they pose any threats, was standard practice for the SAS and the detainees were referred to as PUCs – Persons Under Confinement/Control.

Person 4 told the court he was standing at the edge of a compound, on the side of the steep drop into the dry creek, when he turned and saw another SAS soldier holding “the PUC” by the right shoulder.

“At the same time, I noticed Ben Roberts-Smith had walked to a position maybe three to four metres away and… he turned around, walked forward and kicked the individual in the chest,” Person 4 told the court.

“The individual was catapulted backward and fell down the slope. I looked down the drop off, I saw the individual’s face strike a large rock and sustain a serious injury… It knocked out a number of his teeth including his front teeth.”

Person 4 told the court he, Mr Roberts-Smith and another SAS soldier known as Person 11 walked down a track toward the PUC, which Nine says was Mr Jan, lying in the dry creek.

“I was in some shock at that point. It was something I’d never encountered before… the visual effect of seeing someone go off the side,” Person 4 told the court.

Person 4 told the court he and Person 11, at the order of Mr Roberts-Smith, dragged Mr Jan to a tree on the side of the riverbed.

The court heard Mr Roberts-Smith and Person 11 had a conversation, which Person 4 could not make out, and Mr Jan rose to his feet with his hands still cuffed behind his back.

Person 4 said he was standing a few metres away, with his back to Person 11, Mr Roberts-Smith and Mr Jan, when he heard the sound of gunshots from an SAS M4 rifle.

“A number of shots rang out… Two to three rounds,” Person 4 said.

Person 4 said he turned back around and saw Person 11 with his M4 raised, in a firing position, and Mr Roberts-Smith standing near the tree.

The SAS soldier told the court an ICOM radio, used by Taliban spotters, was positioned next to Mr Jan’s body even though, as far as Person 4 knew, no radio had been found on the shepherd.

The SAS routinely photographed Taliban they had killed with weapons and other items found in their possession as a form of intelligence gathering.

“(The radio) was slightly wet, the screen had water penetrated in it, it was fogged up,” Person 4 told the court.

“It dawned on me where it had come from … The individual from across the river.”

My local Coles people are generally pretty pleasant and friendly.

Maybe it’s a country town thing, but mine are as well. I vividly remember one woman (who still works there) patiently helping a very elderly and frail customer at the checkout for about five minutes, while he wrestled with the tasks of putting his purchases on the conveyor belt, getting them packed and into his trolley, and then navigating payment. It took a long time compared to the average customer, people were waiting, but she looked after this old fella like he was her grandpa.

I was next in line, and I said something about how glad I was she’d taken all that trouble – any of us could be him one day. To which the boofy tradie behind me said loudly – we all will be him one day.

The kindness of strangers is not dead in this country, contrary to the doomsayers.

Professor Eleanor Bourke, the chair of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, said the voices of elders would be at the centre of the truth-telling commission and will ensure it is guided by, and grounded in, their cultural authority.

“Elders voices are paramount,” Professor Bourke said. “Their voices will underpin truth and justice for First Peoples. By prioritising elders first, Yoorrook will ensure their stories and truths are captured and included as evidence in its final recommendations.”

Firstly, what defines an ‘elder’ in this charade? From some of the ‘elders’ I have seen, it is a pretty fluid concept.

Secondly, they admit themselves that these are ‘stories’, but somehow in the space of a sentence ‘stories’ become ‘truths’ which then become ‘evidence.’

@ P-

It’s a very interesting nuance to apply, but you cannot take and hold territory without eventually having to engage the enemy. Particularly as in any human-managed landscape, all transportation and infrastructure links inevitably end up in cities and towns.

Bypassing and kettling operations work right up to the point where the opposition feels a need to break out in order to re-establish their line, and only a fool would leave vital lines of communication and logistics in striking range of a bypassed strongpoint while their main effort keeps pushing inland. A few fools in a Lada with even light or improvised weapons can mess up truck convoys and have effects beyond all proportion to their size.

The Russians have to commit to reducing such points eventually, regardless of the perceived propaganda impact.

1. They’ve basically removed Russia materially from SWIFT. I don’t know how their banking system can survive and make payments outside of the Ruble. It could cause a run on their banking system on Monday.

2. Bill Ackerman is warning Russians to get their money out of Russian banks.. which is likely to be propaganda but it will frighten people all the same.

4. Musk has also said Space X will provide the taxi-service to the space station as Russia has threatened to embargo their service.
5. NATO has said they will supply Ukraine with needed weapons.

The thing that really, really worries me is if Putin is completely nuts as some people have suggested and he tries the nuke angle. This is a dangerous time.
