The real trouble is that now with a very weak, demented numbnut president , if he makes a threat like that, Putin may not believe him and pushes forward.

As we’ve seen with the aforementioned gaffe, Biden’s mental state is dangerous.

But the neo-cons in his administration are more dangerous.

Blinken was inviting an escalation of the conflict last week with what we now know – courtesy the Polish president – was a lie. He has quite a history of lying. That’s beyond incompetence, it’s evil.

Be patient ffs, because never in our lives have we seen a pandemic and our reaction going for a period of two years and then another supply shock brought on by war.
The world these days is an incredibly flexible operation and the adversity will be met with flexibility.

Is the “flexibility” real, or is it setting us up for a full scale crash?
I would have thought a lot of whats gone on would see different states having decent recessions in the last 20 years.
Instead it seems to be possible to print money to paper over the issues.

Does it really mean no more Weimar type disaster or a Weimar type disaster for everyone if it comes unstuck?

So where are our trusted science guys to explain ball lightning to the ‘ladies’ having conniptions.

For instance that one of it’s strange ‘behaviours’ is that it can shock & burn and also pass through things without a mark and that it’s many strange ‘behaviours’ are still far from being fully understood.

Knuckle Dragger boasts of being ‘unkillable’, others have shared countless stories of freakish bits of good luck, but I mention one freakish bit of good luck related to the then still live topic of how different people are affected differently by ‘electric’ charges and oh my, bring out the fainting couches for the ‘ladies’.

This article is worth a look in light of the current propaganda duels/ Trump overthrow and general “misreporting” on seemingly every topic.

I was trying to find an older article which set out it was perfectly legal for the US alphabet agencies to deliberately lie and plant stories in the media, couldnt seem to track it down though.

https://www.cato.org/commentary/how-national-security-state-manipulates-news-media

Reforms enacted in the late 1970s after investigative hearings by the Senate Intelligence Committee, chaired by Sen. Frank Church (D?ID), supposedly brought an end to such CIA penetration of the press. However, evidence of recent media??intelligence agency collaboration suggests that while the manipulation may have become more subtle, it has not gone away. A startling September 2014 exclusive report in the Intercept confirmed that the problem of excessively close ties between the CIA and certain prominent journalists is not a merely a historical artifact.
….

One of the CIA’s long??standing, favorite tactics is to generate favorable, including outright bogus, news stories in foreign media outlets, with the expectation that American outlets will eventually pick them up. There is no question that the U.S. government still recruits foreign journalists for propaganda missions in their home countries. For example, the United States and Britain have mounted an extensive joint propaganda effort regarding the Syrian civil war using an array of Middle Eastern reporters and columnists. Among other possible effects, one must ponder how many of those orchestrated “news” stories found their way back into American media, impacting the narrative and domestic debate about the Syrian civil war and what Washington’s stance should be toward that conflict. The potential “blowback” phenomenon is a worrisome example of how the intelligence agencies can manipulate the debate on a foreign policy issue in the United States.

Perhaps most striking, major media outlets, especially the Washington Post, the New York Times, CNN and MSNBC, have avidly joined the national security state’s campaign to demonize Russia. Those media heavyweights enthusiastically promoted the false narrative about collusion between Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election. Even worse, they parroted the CIA’s unsupported, far??fetched allegation that Moscow had paid the Taliban bounties to kill American soldiers.

“Duel” 4.1.2.
Returning back down the Hume on Thursday we turned off to get a coffee.
Coming back down the on ramp there is a semi in the left lane, and it was fairly obvious we would arrive at the merge simultaneously.
I thought he might move to the right, but no.
No biggie. Maybe there is a vehicle in the right lane. So I brake and pull in behind. No vehicle in the right lane and none for 300 metres behind or in front.
Yes, yes, he isn’t bound by law to move over, but good drivers do.
Anyway, as I pass him, Mrs Panzer says “Fucking hell. He’s texting.”
So I wind the window down and give him a toot and wave (not necessarily involving all four fingers).
This is where it gets funny.
He goes apeshit, flashing and honking, arm waving, followed by more honking and flashing.
Within a kilometre we get to a long, long climb with an added left lane and a “slow vehicles use left lane” sign.
I stayed left about 100 metres in front and kept slowing down as he dropped speed going up the incline, maintaining the distance. He was still very animated, waving and flashing and peddling like Fred Flintstone. I reckon I slowed to about 75kmh before I engaged turbos and left him behind.
Anyway, I took his attention away from his phone I guess.

From my observations of military types on the outside, older grunts talking to younger grunts doesn’t appear to be the greatest problem.
I suspect a bigger breakdown comes from commissioned officers trying to be “men of the people”, listening to gripes from the lower ranks and unilaterally acting on them and undermining NCOs.

Someone (sorry, forget who) put up a bit on the pronunciation of Kharkiv a day or so ago, pointing out that the initial “K”is not pronounced, so the city is Harkov. This raises the question, is Kyiv pronounced as Hyov, phonetically, Highov?

Secondly, I ran across a claim that the initial “K” is not pronounced in Mongolian, so in Genghis Khan, the second word is pronounced Haan.

Is the Ukrainian style a relic of the Golden Horde? And, Han is rather close to Han Chinese. Is that a relic of the extended Mongolian rule over China?

No, as the vowels in Russian are different.

It’s well over 30 years since I studied Russian but I think it’s a short o and short e respectively.

@Cookie

Once Putin embarked on the road of war there was only ever one outcome if NATO didn’t escalate the conflict to WW3.

So why no brokered agreement?

Same reason the Vietnam War collapsed into ruin: US politics.

The Bush II Central Asia initiative has failed. The US has withdrawn from Iraq and Afghanistan, neither of which were successfully included in the world trading network as functioning liberal societies, nor are they likely to be so included.

This is widely taken as the end of US influence in all of the Asian continent. The US is extremely unlikely to wage a non-nuclear war against any country in Asia, largely because the US government has neither the money nor the legitimacy to reconfigure its counter-insurgency army for conventional warfare. Further the reconfiguration would not lead to successful policy.
The Bush initiative that employed highly proficient conventional warfare failed, and would be likely to do so again, because of gross incompetence on the strategic planning level. Giving even overwhelming military force to strategic incompetents will result in failure, “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory” as it did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The US has formed AUKUS as a backup, much as the US fell back to the Island Chain Strategy ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Island_Chain_Strategy ) after defeat in S. Vietnam. The US is in process of withdrawing to AUKUS, and to a pure Oceanic strategy much like that of the British Empire. Implementing such a strategy means withdrawing from Europe.

The Ukraine was is a face saving exercise by the US. The US does not want to be seen as driven out of Europe. US cannot hold Europe because the US is no longer protecting Europe, the US does not have the military ability to hold Europe against its base population, the policies that it has imposed upon Europe are wildly unpopular among the base European population, and the world trade system is in some danger of losing its reserve currency (due to US strategic incompetence again). Still, the longer the US can delay loss of Europe, the longer it will be until it has to face the domestic consequences of such a loss.** And, who knows? Perhaps there will be a miracle and Europe won’t be lost.

A face saving exercise is just more strategic incompetence, quite possibly leading to a much earlier loss of Europe (or, if you please, European independence). When people don’t know what to do, they do what they know (Marshal Saxe), and the US establishment knows how to formulate, coordinate, and implement failing strategies.

** The Vietnam War was (according to Fire in the Lake) largely an exercise in US domestic politics. The Democrats had lost the Presidency in part because they were blamed for the “Loss of China”. The Left wing of the Democrats did not want the Republicans to win in Vietnam, and the remainder of the Democrats did not want the Democrats to lose in Vietnam. In practice, JFK (and Internationalist Democrat who wanted to win) was assassinator along with his brother and the incompetent LBJ proceeded to lose Vietnam. LBJ was sacrificed, and Republican Nixon was handed the blame for the actual withdrawal, then Nixon was removed as well. Vietnam’s welfare, and that of the troops fighting for the US, was at no time considered. In fact, a there was a serious attempt to identify returning soldiers as drug addicts with PTSD that made them dangerous to have around. As for the welfare of the American (or Vietnamese) population, that was also not considered.
And this level of incompetence by politicians preoccupied by the next election persists to right now, as you are reading this. The US is lucky that it has professionals, probably in the State Department, who have established AUKUS.

Boambee John,

Your questions about the pronuniation of various placenames in Ukraine is easily answered.

As both Russian and Ukrainian are spelt using the Cyrillic alphabet, transliteration into the Latin alphabet doesn’t always work easily as the sounds we attribute to the letters are not necessarily how the word would be pronounced in Ukrainian.

The letter grouping ‘kh’ is the Latin alphabet transliteration of the Cyrillic letter ‘X’. It is pronounced like the ‘ch’ at the end of the Scots word ‘loch’ – a kind of raspy aitch if you like.

‘K’ is the same in both alphabets and produces the same sound.

So Kiev has a hard sound at the beginning (as Kiev starts with K) but Kharkiv has the rough aitch sound as Kharkiv starts with X in Cyrillic.

And then there is the peculiarity of the Ukrainian accent in which the hard ‘g’ sound (represented by the Greek letter gamma) is softened to sound more like our aitch sound. Even native Russian speakers from the east of Ukraine have this accent.

Clear as mud, I bet (smiley face, winky face).

Interesting from the fact that some people in the effected North Coast areas were whinging because they felt the Federal Government didn’t respond quick enough.

From todays Sunday Tele:

NSW SES twice rejected flood assistance from the Australian Defence Force
Linda Silmalis
13 Mar 2022
It can be revealed that the Australian Defence Force offered their services to NSW ahead of the deluge that swamped the state only for their offer to be knocked back — twice.
Defence officials offered NSW their help ahead of the east coast “rain bomb” on two separate occasions, only to be told they were not needed.
A week after Premier Dominic Perrottet promised a review into the state’s emergency flood response, which he admitted had fallen short, we can reveal Australian Defence Force (ADF) support was initially knocked back.
On February 25 an ADF representative contacted the NSW State Emergency Services headquarters about 2pm to seek advice on any potential request for assistance, including a presence in the Emergency Operations Centre.
However, the Defence representative was told there was no expectation support would be required.
About 7.30pm, Emergency Management Australia (EMA) – the federal government body within the Department of Home Affairs and responsible for emergency management co-ordination – activated the Australian Government Disaster Response Plan, known as COMDISPLAN, for the east coast of Australia.
Shortly before 9.30pm, a Defence representative again contacted the NSW SES asking if Defence presence would be required.
The representative was again advised there would be no requirement.
The following day the army began increasing its readiness in Queensland, which would be the first state hit by record rain. Just after midnight on February 27, the head of the ADF ordered two helicopters to help the Queensland SES.
It also increased its readiness with 600 personnel for ground support.
Just after 3pm, it also began readying its ground forces in anticipation that NSW would be requesting its support.
On February 28, Defence helicopters were tasked to fly to Lismore ahead of a request from NSW.
Just before 1pm, an EMA NSW request was made for search and rescue helicopter support, high clearance vehicles and evacuation support.
And just after 2pm a task request from NSW was received, which ADF accepted.
Asked when the state government requested Defence support, the office of Emergency Services Minister Steph Cook referred The Sunday Telegraph to the NSW SES.
A spokesman for the NSW SES said members had been on duty since February 24, alongside other emergency services personnel.
“Additional NSW SES members have been on duty assisting with the recent weather event,” the spokesman said.
“Both NSW SES and other emergency services personnel and their equipment/vessels, were pre-positioned in northern NSW to help with the potential impending weather coming from Queensland. The record-breaking flood that occurred in Lismore was like nothing that had been experienced before. It came much quicker and more intensely than was forecasted.”

Zelensky softening, facing the facts on the ground? And his mention of the need for a more global settlement (including EUR/NATO?) sounds positive.

RT News;

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness for negotiations with Russia. He requested that the Israeli prime minister convene peace talks in Jerusalem.

“A group of Ukrainians and Russian representatives are discussing certain issues. They began talking about something, and not just throwing out ultimatums,” Zelensky said on Saturday, during a press conference with foreign media.

Kiev is of the view that any high-profile talks with Russia should be held on neutral territory, Zelensky said, naming Israel as a potential host for such negotiations.

“We spoke with [Israeli Prime Minister Naftali] Bennett, and I said that today it is not right [to hold] meetings in Russia, in Belarus. I’m not talking about technical meetings – I’m talking about leaders’ meetings. Do I think that Israel can be such a land, and Jerusalem? Yes, I think so. And I told him that,” Zelensky stated.

However, the president said, if the outcome was to be successful, his country would need certain “security guarantees” that the ongoing conflict was settled not only from the perspective of Russia, but also from that of the West. Israel could act as a guarantor in that respect, he suggested.

So far, Russian and Ukrainian delegations have met three times in Belarus to discuss the ongoing conflict. Apart from reaching some understanding on establishing humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the combat zones, the two sides have failed to achieve any tangible results.

A more high-profile meeting took place in the Turkish resort city of Antalya on Thursday, when Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba. These discussions also proved inconclusive, with Kuleba describing them as “difficult”, and Lavrov claiming the Ukrainian officials “always want to substitute the real work of implementing agreements with inventing new formats.”

“DeSantis.”

Unlike Trump, Desantis is always fully armed with the facts, and refuses to engage in twisted media narratives – he calls them our every time. Eg, with the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, he said along the lines of “Where does it say that in the bill?… You can’t tell me where it says that in the bill because it doesn’t say that in the bill…. Do your homework”. When they asked him about mask mandates he similarly eviscerated them by quoting actual science at them.

In short, he expects them to be the enemy, he expects they want to push their own narrative, he expects they aren’t interested in the truth, and he knows they don’t and won’t like him. So he is well prepared and doesn’t take any shit. Furthermore, he is always fully grounded in what “Joe Average” actually wants, and does it, so he’s resoundingly popular.

I for one can’t wait to see him go national – if only to have a good giggle at them trying to distort the narrative and being mercilessly shot down every time. It’ll be glorious and humourous in equal measure – the media is nowhere near as smart and well prepared as Desantis inevitably is.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed his readiness for negotiations with Russia. He requested that the Israeli prime minister convene peace talks in Jerusalem.

Pretty sure that diplomatic solution will be the “end game’. Clever to suggest Jerusalem as venue – all parties can be assured of personal security. Interesting that preliminary talks involving trusted emissaries have already been held in Belarus and Antalya.

Frank’s inability to merge correctly and him slowing down a heavy vehicle going up a hill could be reported as road rage, the menace he has admitted to being, however if some of you wish to go back since I’ve been gone you’ll see nothing but subject change attempts my the “midnight rider” of the Liberal party.

Peter Campion. LTE’s.

Isn’t it great that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine cured Covid-19? Putin deserves a Nobel for that medical miracle. Tess, Westcourt

The RBA wouldn’t need artificially low interest rates (CP, 12/03) if they just stopped printing so much money. All they’re doing is devaluing our past labour by inflating our savings away. Ostensibly the RBA is publicly owned, but they behave just like their foreign, privately owned peers. Economist, Cairns

Between food outlets burning down and the covid police closing them down there’s not going to be any eat-out options in Mission Beach soon. Is this by coincidence? Or some nasty grand design? Smithy, 4852

Why can’t “green energy” boosters see the four glaring problems? It’s intermittent and unreliable, unable to be turned on and ramped up on demand. It’s made electricity bills more expensive, not cheaper. It enrichens billionaires, mostly foreigners, while sending our manufacturing jobs to coal-powered Asia. It dramatically weakens our ability to defend ourselves. I sometimes wonder if the “ordinary people” doing the boosting are paid shills or genuinely brainwashed. Franny, Caravonica

RE: Tunnel under the Range, Gary G Smith, CP, 12/3. The United Australia Party candidate for Kennedy, Peter Campion, has a plan for that and it pays for itself without a toll and without impacting taxpayers or views or private property. Bob Katter adopted part of it after he heard Peter Campion was running against him. Tradie, Atherton

Covid-19 is over (CP, 12/3). Like every other pandemic in history, it came in three waves and then fizzled out under Farr’s Law of viral attenuation. In May we must remember that “our” major political parties went full totalitarian on us, in lockstep with other tyrannical governments, for no net saving of lives – and they kicked our national Constitution to the curb in that process. Jordan, Clifton Beach

Mainstream US news outlet, the Washington Post, is now openly reporting on the bioweapons labs Obama built in Ukraine. No wonder Putin felt the urge to invade. Republican, Cairns

Golf buggies for CBD cops are a silly idea, GTHO (12/3), because they’re near silent and a hazard to pedestrians. Cops on bicycles have more maneuverability, stay fitter, don’t have to worry about flat batteries, and 80 bikes can be purchased for the price of one golf buggy. GTR XU2, Kanimbla

Exactly right, Barry Braes (CP,12/3). We have more oil in the Arckaringa Basin under Coober Pedy and in the Rundle Range area just south of Rockhampton than the Middle East ever had. Yet our own governments are denying it to us – it’s time for them to go. Truckie, Smithfield

The whole ‘January 6th insurrection’ turns out to have been led by Obama loyalists in the FBI, according to a New York Times reporter who was honey trapped by a Project Veritas reporter. A. Reader, Cairns

Funny how Shane Warne and Kimberley Kitching were both fairly healthy but died from heart failure, aged 52, just after their third jabs. But it’s just coincidence, right? Unconvinced, Brinsmead

In 1989, Russian communists faked their own demise and disguised themselves as environmentalists to cripple western energy systems. IOW, the Reds painted themselves Green, which is why we call them watermelons. Krystyna, Mooroobool

Catherine, Stratford, (CP, 12/03), Australia has always had floods – always. How well do you think solar farms do under water, such as the one on the Sunshine Coast last week – as reported by the Courier Mail? History Guy, Freshwater

“Climate change” didn’t work because it was too slow. “Covid-19” didn’t work because it killed too few people. So the globalists are now trying hyper-inflation to finally kill western economies and bring in their “Great Reset”. Did you vote for that? Paul, Kamerunga

In a way it’s nice that Facebook is into hating and cancelling Russia now. It’s taken their nasty focus off those of us who choose our medical procedures selectively. Chloe. Kuranda

Race hoaxer Jussie Smollett went to jail claiming he’s not suicidal. What’s the bet he’s “suicided” by “two white guys in MAGA hats”? Curly Joe, Earlville

The CDC is now recommending wearing a face mask over the eyes to prevent heart attack when filling your car. Courier Operator, Earlville

For what taxpayers fork out for child care and aged care (CP, 12/03), wouldn’t we get better quality care and better value for money simply paying the Mum or Dad in a couple a median wage to stay home and look after their own kids and parents? Higgs, Tolga

Has anyone seen the fame-addicted vaccine-dictator Dr Tony Fauci recently? Is his disappearance connected to the 55,000-page Pfizer document release forced by the US courts, and all the side-effects listed in them? Chloe, Kuranda

Remember, those soaring fuel prices (12/3) are because Joe Biden turned off US domestic oil production on the advice of commie climate change loonies and began competing for the oil we buy off foreigners because our climate change loonies won’t let us pump our own oil here either. Lesco Brandon, Cairns

The Cairns Regional Council have been gradually killing the CBD for years, by closing roads, eliminating traffic lanes, reducing parking, building hiding places for criminals, and closing public toilets so the CBD becomes a giant toilet by default. Return it to its original design and it would flourish. These modern uni-educated town planners have no idea.Cecily, Ravenshoe

WA Transport Minister Rita Saffioti announces replacement of infamous Bayswater Bridge
Josh Zimmerman
The West Australian
Sun, 13 March 2022 1:08PM

The infamous Bayswater Bridge will have an “uncrashable” replacement by the end of the year.

Work on a new bridge spanning King William Street has now commenced as part of a major upgrade to Bayswater Station.

With the first two beams now in place, Transport Minister Rita Saffioti announced Bayswater Bridge — which she said had been crashed into by trucks “hundreds” of times since its construction in the 1960s — was slated to be replaced by the end of 2022.

“This bridge will be 1m higher than the current Bayswater Bridge, which has got its own cult following and is an iconic part of WA,” Ms Saffioti said.

Any bridge with a clearance below 4.6m is classified as “low” by Australian Standards — with the existing Bayswater Bridge far below that height.

“Currently, the clearance is 3.8 metres and this new bridge will be 4.8 metres,” Ms Saffioti said.

The piece of excrement who dreamed it up is an Australian “ethicist” named Peter Singer, last I heard of him he was a wackademic at Princeton University. Under the US system, where lobbyists often have input to legislation, he may have helped with the drafting.

He has three children. They might lobby for after academia abortion as a favour to the world.

This is the slippery slope which decent people warned about when legal abortion – and then legal euthanasia – was first touted. Of course, liberals pooh-poohed that, citing it as hyperbole; a conspiracy theory.
