I’ve had the same thing very nearly happen to me, avoided only because I was in my header which meant daylight hrs travel. Slight difference to Struth in that I was pulled up across from the Shell roadhouse at Hay, it’s the one closer to the round-a-bout.
And he didn’t say he blamed sub continentals particularly for the poo on the shoe, I took it as an example of declined standards generally and that applies across the board, black white brindle. And he’s correct and it’s happened in the last ten years, particularly the last five.
As KD said I’d like to see proof of the “hole cut in the floor to crap” story as I’ve heard a lot of the anecdotes as well.

Seems the T-72 is somewhat resistant to some rockets?

Gabor – The NLAW only arms itself after 65m in direct attack mode or 20m for over the top mode, the tank was too close. The only thing which went bang was the remaining rocket fuel, the warhead didn’t go off.

I’m not sure of the 65m direct fire arming distance, I saw that once, but the 20m distance is well known.

You could be right, I also think that aiming at the turret was wrong?

Gabor – I think he was aiming for the top of the turret which has less armour than the sides. Or maybe the top of the tank just behind the turret. That’s why both the NLAW and Javelin ideally fly over the top and shoot downwards. In this case he was already above, which is why I mentioned direct fire mode.

The guy looked more like he was firing a RPG, he probably was doing what was instinctive. They wouldn’t have had much training on NLAWs so it’d be hard in such pressured circumstances to do the correct set up, and wait until the tank was far enough away for the warhead to arm itself.

In some ways he was lucky. If the warhead had penetrated it’d’ve blown the ammunition carosel, which is under the gunner’s seat. There would’ve been a rather large kaboom. That’s why the Turret Throwing Olympics is a thing. He could’ve had a tank turret come through the window.

It’s a bit too complex for me – Part of the US bond yield curve briefly inverted for the first time since 2006 Monday, adding to fears that a recession could soon hit the country’s economy as the Federal Reserve hikes interest rates hard.

Bottom line if they haven’t worked in a close, mixed, stressful competitive environment I do not take boosters multi-culturalism or lectures on racism seriously.

The difference today is these groups are incentivised not to mix with others. This is the problem.

Both the Pali’s and the Israeli’s need to listen to the saner leaders:

Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas condemned the terrorist attack late on Tuesday, Israeli media reported.

“The killing of Israeli and Palestinian civilians will only lead to a deterioration of the situation ahead of Ramadan,” the PA head said. “We are trying to obtain some stability.”

Abbas also warned, however, against using the attack as justification for settler violence against Palestinians. “This circle of violence shows true, lasting peace is the only solution to maintaining the security and stability for our peoples.”

Pity she didn’t chip in back in 2019 to help Tony Abbott but I digress. Anyway, apparently Bishop told the audience that a vote for Allegra is a vote for Labor and the Greens and that the so called independents in parliament today, such as Steggall and Haines, consistently vote with Labor and Greens over 65% of the time. We know this Julie but you helped make this bed.

Last week, the New South Wales conservative was given an unwinnable position on the Liberal Party Senate ticket, ahead of the upcoming election.

Speaking on Tuesday night less than two hours after the Budget was delivered, Ms Fierravanti-Wells lashed the party’s preselection process, which has been dominated by factional warfare and candidate chaos.

Peter FitzSimons’ Buddy Franklin howler

Lance “Buddy” Franklin kicking his 1000th goal at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the final quarter of Friday night’s clash between the Swans and Geelong was unambiguously the sporting moment of the year, if not the decade.

It was a once-in-a-generation accomplishment in the limited universe of Australian rules football, yet the collective emotional conflagration ensured it was a global event.

About 250,000 people spilled onto the field and into that heaving milieu orbiting Buddy – at least if you count every Sydneysider who, years from now, will claim to have been there.

Hometown rag, The Sydney Morning Herald, runs a column each week – often more than one column – containing blow-by-blow commentary on the notable milestones in Australian sport. It’s phoned in from the harbourside home-office of Peter FitzSimons (and his dutiful research team).

To date, Fitzy has had nothing at all to say about Franklin’s achievement, nor the astonishing spectacle that accompanied it. This is uncharacteristic circumspection, for Fitzy has a line on everything, a compulsion to share it and an unshakable conviction in its high value. He even tweets his daily Wordle result, a whole new realm of banality.

Would Fitzy perchance be mindful of an intemperate column he penned in October 2013 – upon the Swans signing Buddy on a nine-year, $10 million deal – in which he asked, in caps for oafish over-emphasis, “HAVE THE SWANS GOT FREAKING ROCKS IN THEIR HEAD (sic)?”

Franklin, he reckoned, “will gravitate to the Ivy on George Street”. To the enduring disappointment of Emerald City’s paparazzi, Buddy mostly gravitated to his couch at home in Rose Bay.

But FitzSimons’ leading objection to Franklin’s sensational recruitment was that “prima facie”, it represented a breach of the club’s ” ‘no dickheads’ selectorial policy”, which was “the whole shtick of the Swans for the past decade.”

“If you called Central Casting and said, ‘Send me over a prime dickhead’, and Buddy Franklin turned up… a tower of swaggering sneer and staggering hubris… you would hardly be inclined to ask for your money back.”

Welcome to Fitzy’s Self-Awareness Free Zone. The guy wearing a pirate hankie on his head for no explicable reason, hectoring Sydney with his witless attitudes, naming the dickheads among us.

There is no greater dickhead than Peter FitzSimons. Were there an All Australian team of dickheads, Fitzy would be its captain and its most capped player. His trophy cabinet would hold the Brownlow, the Coleman and the Norm Smith medals. Gary Ablett Sr would be supplanted as God … of the dickheads.

Fitzy was merely one in a chorus of voices against Franklin’s Sydney deal in 2013, of course, AFL House being among them.

How wrong they all were.

None of the anxieties that Franklin posed a cultural ill-fit for the team have borne out. He is popular with the other players and by all accounts is very humble and shy.

Buddy has been an on-field sensation. His aura effect has, over the past eight years, cemented the Swans in the popular consciousness of Sydney.

To widespread indignation, Sydney paid him $1.1 million a year. Club turnover promptly rose by $12 million a year as club membership increased by 70 per cent. Home crowds are up 15 per cent.

36,000 people and those extraordinary scenes on Friday – how can you place a dollar value on that? Money cannot buy it. It is the magic jam from heaven.

Buddy was a bargain and a coup almost beyond compare. Fitzy’s ghostwriters should put that in his next column.

“And he’s correct and it’s happened in the last ten years, particularly the last five.”

No, it goes further back than that.

We lost textiles, electronics and automotive industries on the basis of “free trade” (which was anything but), and no-one seemed to really care much, despite those losses decimating the supply chains that were also local like steel, glass and components for the automotive industry.

Then we had the totally ridiculous situation where we had thousands graduating with IT qualifications, because according to GovCo that was “the future” and there was a “shortage”, only to be undercut by immigration ponzi imports especially selected to “fill the gap”, when there was no gap at all and plenty of locals ready and qualified to do the job.

Add in the education industrial complex, where you now need a degree in beverages to be a barista, and it is no surprise to me that this ridiculousness has finally reached into the logistics chain and people like St Ruth are feeling the impact.

It seems it was fine while it was manufacturing and other services because “I’m alright Jack” and you always need truck drivers right, and that involves physically being present and no way to off-shore it, plus you need local qualifications, so that’s never going away. Yeah – until they used the same immigration ponzi fix on you they used on the IT people.

So you know what? Why the fuck should I care about truck drivers when they never gave a fuck about me? Why should I care that you are being undercut on pay and conditions when you never gave a fuck about my pay and conditions being under the same attack as long as you got your cheap shit from overseas? Oh, you whinged about crappy call centres, but you never stood up and said “We need these jobs here in Australia!”, did you?

Too fucking late now Struth – you had the chance to stand up for Australian jobs and Australian industry, but you didn’t because it didn’t affect you – you even thought it was great you now had lots of cheap plastic dog shit from China – and now that it is affecting you, you complain. For those considering an electric car, dealers in the US are finding that the cost of installing chargers for EV’s is way more expensive than they thought it would be. Remember that dealerships are in the main, if not exclusively in commercial properties which usually have higher capacity mains than domestic buildings. Most Australian homes have 60 amp single phase mains supply. It can be increased fairly easily to a few homes but if a lot want increased current then the street mains, transformers and the transmission network will need upgrading, this is very very expensive and the cost would be spread evenly over the consumers, even those who neither want nor need increased current for ev chargers. I guess those who want ev’s will gloss over this and not care about others subsidising their network supply infrastructure.

Indigenous campaign seeks a ban on all-white juries in some trials

An Indigenous campaign is calling for a ban on all-white juries in cases where a police officer or other person in authority is being tried over the death of an Indigenous person.

Debate over jury representation was triggered after an apparently all-white jury acquitted Northern Territory police officer Zachary Rolfe on charges arising from the March 2019 shooting death of Kumanjayi Walker.

Campaign leader Desmond Blurton/Cuiamara said he was taking his local campaign national, with a planned public protest on April 7 at Western Australia’s state parliament building; he was also considering launching a petition through social media.

“We need our mob represented,” said Mr Blurton, a Nyungah Ballardong man and deputy chair of WA’s Deaths in Custody Watch Committee. “I don’t care if it’s 20 per cent of the jury or whatever, but we still need to be represented in the jury.”

He had also written a submission to the Law Society of WA, emailed the state’s Attorney-General John Quigley and appealed to top barristers for public support. “I would like them to stand with us, the First Nations mob, in solidarity to let this society know this is unjust, unfair, racist and cannot be tolerated in a fair society.”

A Law Society spokeswoman said it did not have a formal position regarding Indigenous representation on juries “but the campaign has been brought to our attention and we will raise it with our committees, for their feedback”.

Commenting on the jury composition in the Rolfe trial earlier in March, Labor legal affairs spokesman Mark Dreyfus called for a concerted effort by the commonwealth to get more Indigenous people on to electoral rolls, given they are the source of jurors.

“Unfortunately, as we know, there is significant under-enrolment of Indigenous people in the Northern Territory, and as such they are under-represented in jury pools,” he said.

The latest Australian Electoral Commission data shows enrolment of eligible Indigenous people nationally at 79.4 per cent compared with 74.7 per cent in 2017.

The current figure for eligible non-Indigenous people is 96.3 per cent. NT Indigenous enrolment is 69.6 per cent, up from 67.1 per cent in 2017.

The AEC’s Indigenous electoral participation program, established in 2010, employs Indigenous and community engagement officers to help facilitate enrolment. The program was allocated a further $9.4m in October for initiatives including educational podcasts in various languages and youth mentoring to drive enrolment.

The question of Indigenous representation on juries is a matter of justice being seen to be done, according to a lawyer who challenged the NT Juries Act in the Supreme Court over the issue more than a decade ago.

“The court affirmed that in Australia there is no right to have any particular racial representation on juries,” retired criminal lawyer and specialist in the area Russell Goldflam said of the result.

Mr Goldflam, a member of the NT Law Reform Committee that recommended reforms in 2013, said he did not know whether there had been Indigenous people on the Rolfe jury and was “not suggesting that having Indigenous people on the jury would have changed the verdict”.

“What I do believe is that had there been Indigenous representation on the jury, that would enable the community as a whole to have more confidence in the outcome,” Mr Goldflam said.

This “I’m alright Jack” attitude is on the money.
They looked at the loss of manufacturing jobs and thought, “Well, they can’t do my job overseas because it is geographically tied to Straya”.
This was mainly transport and construction, and it lead to union driven wage growth for semi-skilled wukkas not warranted by their skill-set.
Transport is now under-pinned by an imported workforce, but those in construction still feel untouchable, mainly due union influence.
OK, it hasn’t happened in CBD tower construction yet, but the mantra in mining and oil & gas for years has been “modularise construction offshore and minimise onshore work”.
For example, a lot of CSG well-heads arrive pre-manufactured in container sized units with the local work being to do up the four wingnuts and plug it in.

I gather it is hard to get local Indigenes in these places to turn up, although there are plenty to choose from in the cities – although she should avoid saying ‘White’ because these Aborigines have very white skin. They also have red or blonde hair, blue eyes, degrees in politics, and the Aboriginal trappings they have in their home were bought from shops which guarantee authentic Aboriginal artisans.

The start:-

This was rightly laughed off the park.
Then it morphed into:-

* When I say “unknown” you know who I mean, right?

And we end up at:-

We must steel ourselves to protect an Australian way of life
The damage done to the American psyche through unrelenting attacks on its core values and the destructive rewriting of its history is very real. For Australia, it is a cautionary tale.

From InquirerMarch 29, 2022

15 MINUTE READ
Our way of life has faced some serious challenges over the past year. For a long time, for many of us, it changed. And so this discussion is as pertinent as it is important.

I suppose you must start with some basic questions. Is there a unique Australian way of life? If so, what is it? And ultimately, why is it essential? Is it worth investing in?

Well, the first question is easy. Yes. Anyone of us; all of us lucky to have spent time living or travelling overseas know that Australia does have its own identity, its own unique culture and a specific way of life.

Let me start with identity, which is a bit easier, and move on to way of life later on.

If we just take the two countries we are seen as culturally closest to, America and the United Kingdom, we can see clear differences.

Having grown up and lived in the US, in the UK and in Australia, I appreciate our historical bonds and the similarities of our character. But I also know and appreciate what makes Australia different.

Our Constitution, for instance, is a melding of the Westminster system and the American federation, the best of the old world and of the new.

All three nations value freedom, democracy, aspiration and endeavour – qualities we have fought hard to protect. And while we differ in national character, there are similarities there too.

The ironic Australian sense of humour can be traced to Britain and Ireland, while our nation was forged with a frontier attitude, reminiscent of the US drive westwards, with strong veins of optimism and self-reliance.

But as America expanded west, their explorers and pioneers found rich plains, vast rivers and mountains; we found a far harsher and more difficult environment. Perhaps this added to our sense of irony; it certainly added to our enduring resilience.

When my father delivered his first Boyer lecture nearly 13 years ago, he referenced a favourite Russell Drysdale painting that to him represents the beauty, character and resilience of the Australian landscape and its people.

The painting, The Stockman and His Family, depicts an Aboriginal family, clearly burdened by the hardships of the past, weathered by the harshness of their environment, but with eyes cast hopefully to the future.

Without ignoring issues of Indigenous disadvantage, my father was focusing on the shared characteristics and experiences of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australians – isolated from the rest of the world, tested by the vicissitudes of our climate, and together carving out a future on our continent. Drawing inspiration from the strength in that image, my father said, “Our national character should never lose that steeliness.”

PHOTO. The streets of Lismore, in northern NSW, inundated with floodwater. Picture: Nathan Edwards

Steeliness: it is a good word, isn’t it? It’s a better quality, one that Australians have displayed handily throughout the past.

That my father warned, or implored us not to lose that quality, tacitly acknowledges that we could. It is understood that national identity and culture is, rightly, a constantly evolving, always living thing. It is always a work in progress.

Identity is like a long rope, made up of hundreds of woven strands of shorter individual fibres. In totality the woven strands provide strength and purpose, and a kind of collective unity. But as one strand ends, others are woven in. That’s what gives a rope its strength. But the strands at the beginning of the rope are entirely different from the strands at the end.

We are not who we were 100 years ago, or who we might become 100 years from now. Culture and identity are not, and cannot be, frozen in time. It is this fluid aspect of identity that makes the Centre for the Australian Way of Life such an inspired idea.

Understanding first what characteristics make us unique and what shared values unite us is essential before we can celebrate the good, reject the bad and, yes, embrace the new.

This endeavour works only if you believe, as I do, that together we are incredibly lucky to be Australian. That our country, while not perfect, represents invaluable freedoms and characteristics that are worth celebrating, nourishing and defending.

I am always saddened when elements of our citizenry, often the elites who have benefited most from our country, display not a love of our values but a disdain for them.

This is why some of what sets Australia apart is under threat. Our core values, our successes and even our history are under constant attack.

Nourishing and defending those core values are extremely important. Not to do so has real world, real bad outcomes.

This past month we have all been both horrified by the brutality of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and inspired by its leaders and its people in their courageous defence of their country. The people of Ukraine were living in an emerging democracy, embracing their post-Soviet sovereignty, working hard to achieve their economic and political aspirations, when Russia decided to snatch that future away from them.

Ukrainians also know that their country is not perfect, and yet tonight they continue to fight and to die for their sovereignty, their identity and their most basic of freedoms.

It is heart-wrenching to watch, and we must continue to help them defend themselves. Most of us agree on this basic point.

PHOTO. People walk in front of a church as smoke rises after an air strike in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on March 26. Picture: AFP

And so I was shocked when a respected poll in the United States last week revealed that barely a majority of Americans would defend their country if invaded in a similar way. Could it really be that the America that fought not just a bloody war of independence from a foreign empire but also an even bloodier and more nationally defining civil war of emancipation not long after; could it be that this exceptional country is now so politically divided that barely half of its citizens care deeply enough for its values that they would fight for them?

The damage done to the American psyche through unrelenting attacks on its core values and via the destructive rewriting of its history is very real.

It has been widely reported that Russia’s attempts to influence recent American elections were designed to sow anger and discord on all sides. There were, and presumably remain, efforts to divide the country and undermine its faith in its core values and institutions.

The Russians found fertile ground. In 2019 The New York Times published the first of a series of essays called the 1619 Project, which recast American exceptionalism as racist from inception.

You couldn’t have picked a more polarising and dividing thesis. The essays, criticised by many historians, are what they profess to be in their title: a project to recast American history and long accepted values through a radical and radically divisive lens.

Its author, Nikole Hannah-Jones, has said that “all journalism is activism”. That’s wrong. And it has done great damage. America is a great country, populated by an amazing and also resilient people. It will overcome these challenges.

But here, in Australia, let’s learn from this cautionary tale.

Let me go back to one of my original questions. Why is our identity and our culture so important? Why is it worth investing so much in?

By definition an Australian identity must apply to all of us. It is something that is not political, or economic, not drawn by class or education, not based in race or sex, or whether you are a new immigrant or a member of our oldest peoples. An Australian identity unites all of us.

Together we are strong. Divided we are weak.

PHOTO. Supporters of US President Donald Trump protest outside the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

But our national identity and culture are weathering constant attempts to recast Australia as something it isn’t.

To listen to our national broadcaster or much of the media elite is to hear about a uniquely racist, selfish, slavish and monochromatic country.

The reality could not be more different – we are one of the most tolerant, generous, independent and multicultural countries in human history. Not without fault, but without peer.

How can we expect people to defend the values, interests and sovereignty of this nation if we teach our children only our faults and none of our virtues?

We must arm our young people with the facts and not undermine them with false ideological narratives.

Australians have an innate concept of fairness.

We have a visceral sense of what we call a “fair go”. This is our own idea, an antipodean concept, a deeply rooted understanding that whatever our circumstances, we deserve the same opportunities, the same respect, the same fair go.

It is why we welcome immigrants, embrace aspiration and scoff at class-based deference.

Former Labor prime minister Bob Hawke wrote of a national character that “adapted a class-ridden tradition to produce in this vast continent a people with a cocky insouciance, a society where mateship and the concept of a ‘fair go’ were more than myths”.

Similarly, at Gallipoli on Anzac Day in 2000, then Liberal prime minister John Howard spoke of sacrifices to defend a country where “prosperity and opportunity are derived not by birth but by endeavour”.

There is a rugged optimism about us, too, an attitude embodied in the phrase “She’ll be right”.

This is not a line of resignation, or near enough being good enough; it is a unique Australian combination of optimism and stoicism. “Stoic optimism.” Steeliness.

PHOTO. Then-prime minister John Howard with Australian Gallipoli survivor Alec Campbell outside Tomb of Unknown Soldier in 2000.

In a fraught world we need to draw on our characteristic strengths to protect ourselves and our future. What is confronting, though, is when our way of life is challenged from the most trusted and even benign of sources.

One year ago, who would have believed that in Australia a pregnant mother would be arrested for questioning a government lockdown?

Who would have thought daily press conferences where citizens were scolded and told to dob in their neighbours would become must-watch viewing?

Surrendering personal liberties, accepting government interventions and absorbing record financial hardships were literally unquestionable burdens, at risk of fines or imprisonment.

All done in the blink of an eye, with few checks and balances, and we are still counting the costs.

Alcoholism, domestic abuse, suicide – all saw record spikes during the pandemic. Why did we accept this? It must never happen again. Australia did well to turn the tyranny of distance into a temporary pandemic advantage, using maritime borders and hotel quarantine as a moat against the virus, until vaccines were developed.

The federal JobKeeper scheme provided a financial lifeline that kept employees linked to their workplaces.

Our spirit of mateship shone through at street level, with people checking on the welfare of neighbours and supporting local businesses, and it was reflected in the innovation of an informal national cabinet.

Yet we became a victim of our own success, with state leaders thinking they could out-do each other with lockdowns and remain Covid-free forever.

The popularity of these approaches no doubt was fuelled by the alarmist language and fearmongering of politicians and much of the media.

But it is the media’s job to question these policies. To examine their consequences. And to ultimately hold our elected officials to account.

That’s our job.

Lockdowns and border closures kept families apart, children were denied face-to-face education, businesses were crushed, non-Covid health issues such as cancer screenings were delayed, and mental wellbeing was jeopardised.

Tweed Heads and Coolangatta were divided like Cold War Berlin; Australian citizens were stranded overseas, banned from coming home; and those at home were not allowed to leave.

But much of the media bought into this. News Limited titles nationally campaigned for our readers to get vaccinated. It was extraordinarily and importantly impactful. But when any columnist questioned the efficacy or fairness of vaccine mandates, they were labelled anti-vaxxers. Decades ago, George Orwell pointed out how language is not only shaped by politics but is used to fabricate new realities. Debates around virus treatments, mask effectiveness, the human and economic costs of lockdowns, and vaccine mandates were treated as taboo by many elements of politics and the media.

PHOTO. Police make arrests at Victoria Market during anti-lockdown protests in Melbourne. Picture: David Crosling

Debate is essential to democracy. Important issues need to be aired, examined and judged. It can be uncomfortable, but it is the media’s key role in our system. Hoeing to one orthodoxy does not allow this; and is not the media’s role.

We must always be wary of the suppression of information. The contemporary thrill to “cancel” someone whose opinion you do not share is just the latest insidious form of censorship.

Infamously, YouTube banned Sky News Australia based on YouTube’s own judgments and changing standards about a handful of pandemic-related videos. Initially, YouTube justified this censorship by stating “YouTube does not allow for content that denies the existence of Covid-19”.

OK. But when challenged they could not find a single instance of Sky ever denying the existence of Covid-19, so they had to pivot quickly and shift their justifications. The PR executives took over and they said this: “YouTube does not allow medical disinformation about Covid-19 that poses a serious health risk or harm, or that is in contradiction with local and global health authorities guidelines.”

Apart from being an obvious and blunt cudgel to Australian’s freedom of speech, this standard was impossible to adhere to.

Which health guidelines do you use? YouTube says local and global guidelines.

YouTube used the World Health Organisation as its fact-checking guide; a body that was late to declare the pandemic, quick to admonish Australia for closing its international border, changeable in its medical rulings and reluctant to pursue the origins of the virus.

And our local guidelines were not much better. Every state had different rules, apparently different “science”, and they changed them constantly.

In America today states with strong mask mandates have just lifted them, claiming “the science has changed”. Well, no, it’s an election year and the politics have changed. What YouTube and the other members of the tech censor class are doing, at least when dealing with the media, is not protecting viewers from dangerous views or opinions but rather ensuring that only the current orthodox view is allowed.

Unfortunately for them, these orthodox views often turn out to be wrong.

Last year, quite early in the pandemic, Facebook banned any posts suggesting Covid-19 might have emerged from the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

In September HarperCollins published What Really Happened in Wuhan by The Australian’s Sharri Markson, pulling together all the threads of this story, which she had reported in The Australian and on Sky News, in a brave and open quest for the truth.

PHOTO. Members of the World Health Organisation (WHO) team investigating the origins of Covid-19 arrive at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in Wuhan in China’s central Hubei province.

This has been another great Australian characteristic: impertinence in the face of convention or authority. This nation has been at the forefront of demanding to know the truth about the pandemic’s origins.

Had Sharri not written such a compelling and well-sourced book, would the tech companies and media elites eventually have come around and published the facts themselves? Presumably only when they could no longer justify hiding obvious truths. But that is not brave. That is not journalism.

Leading into the US presidential election, the tech companies, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and practically all the media suppressed the discovery of Hunter Biden’s laptop. While much of the contents of the laptop was salacious, many emails and other documents raised pertinent and serious questions about the Biden family’s foreign ties and lobbying.

Had the laptop belonged to another candidate’s son, it would certainly have been the only story you would have heard in the final weeks of the election.

But lies were concocted: “The laptop was hacked or stolen”; it was not. Or: “It was Russian disinformation”; it was not. And the story was completely suppressed. It was censored by everyone.

Fast forward to last week. The election is over. And The New York Times, quietly, in paragraph 24 of a story about Hunter Biden’s taxes, admits that it has now “authenticated” the laptop and its contents.

All the New York Post’s reporting was true. All was factual. But it was suppressed and lied about for as long as it suited the political orthodoxy. This, from purely a journalistic point of view, is shameful. It should not happen. And we should never let it happen here.

PHOTO. Hunter Biden with unnamed woman at Chateau Marmont.

Finding truth is often hard. It very often comes with great personal costs. But it is essential to our nation and to our future. Telling the truth is part of our national character.

In Australia we should reject every effort, and there are many, to limit points of view, to obstruct a diversity of opinions and to enforce a singular world view. Those efforts are fundamentally anti-Australian.

The flip side of this is that we should celebrate debate, unite behind a wide diversity of opinion, and vigorously protect the basic freedoms that as Australians we have enjoyed for generations.

Which brings me back to our way of life. An Australian way of life is something that by definition must allow us to be Australian. It can’t be that our way of life would disallow any of the traits that make up our unique Australian identity.

Rather, the unifying characteristics that make us Australian must be allowed to flourish under our way of life. That is why freedom is not only a core value of our way of life, it is essential to it.

As Australians we are free to practise our “rugged optimism”; we are free to be “authentic”, free to be “egalitarian” and free to aspire to a “fair go”.

We are free to practise our religions, and be Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu. We are free to be gay, or straight, or trans. We are free to make our own health choices about our own bodies. We are free to travel and to explore.

As Australians we are free to have our own opinions. Free to be Labor or Liberal. We are free to be left and we are free to be right. We are free to disagree. We are free to choose what we read and what we watch. We are free to make our own minds up about things.

These freedoms are unifying. And such freedom is at the core of who we are. If you need more proof, look no further than our updated national anthem. It’s right there in the second line: “For we are one and free”.

But we cannot take our unity or our freedoms for granted. We cannot be complacent. We must defend our Australian freedoms from erosion.

The Covid-19 lockdowns and “emergency health orders” took many of these freedoms away. As the pandemic becomes endemic let’s learn from the past two years. Did we give too much freedom up? Was it worth it? And let’s make sure we get all the rights back we thought we had.

Essential to this is our freedom of speech. Our freedom to question authority and to hold our leaders to account.

We should be wary of those who would deny this freedom and call for less debate, less openness, and less diversity of opinion. Instead, we should together celebrate, indulge and defend all the Aussie freedoms we cherish.

Why did they go to such trouble?
Well it was cheaper to manufacture the whole kit and kaboodle offshore and employ one truck-driver, two escort vehicles and a crane driver for a day, rather than an on-site construction crew for six months (oh, make that nine).
It only becomes a problem when those last onshore jobs driving the Big Rig and escort vehicles go to furriners.

For example, a lot of CSG well-heads arrive pre-manufactured in container sized units with the local work being to do up the four wingnuts and plug it in.

Aside from very basic inputs, the mining and oil and gas industry uses very little manufactured in Australia.

In mining, explosives would be the biggest locally made item – and even then, there is pressure to import ammonium nitrate.

In oil and gas, essentially all machine systems and tech are imported. All offshore kit is made somewhere else.

Outside of cement and a few simple chemicals, 97.3% of critical consumables (wellheads, casing, tubulars, downhole kit) are imported.

Australia has a large scale CSG industry, but it’s supporting API certified tube-mills in China and India (and other countries you might not associate with manufacturing – the Philippines, Argentina, Canadia).

So what is being proposed essentially, is the complete breakdown of what was achieved under Magna Carta – that people should be treated equally.

If this idea progressed to reality, the next is that a 12 person jury should, it would be argued, have seven women and five men, seeing as women are 52% of the population. Except that would over-represent women. And so on, and so on.

The usual New Idea-style ‘winners and losers’ analyses all show huge money dumps for every interest group – and essentially no losers. Presumably this is because the budget is funded by borrowing that is lost in the Covid debt mountain and happy economic growth assumptions.

Good Moaning.

So now one who I thought was sane, has blown his pooffle valve of logic as well.

Kneel, when you make a statement, and Panzy Smollett rushes in to agree and to push buttons and lies, especially when it comes to me, you might want to adjust your stance.

You complete fuckwit.

I lead a convoy to Canberra while I owned my own trucking business to protest the loss of industry and jobs outside of the transport industry.
Filled with people who were protesting the live beef cattle export industry smashing by Julia Gillard’s communist regime, the orange growers and many other industries including teachers disgusted with the education system.
It was in fact such a broad church of dissent that it was called the convoy of no confidence and to some degree caused us problems because there was so many different grizzles that the message got blurred.
So, Fuck you.

Just because I describe conditions in the transport industry does not mean I don’t care about other industries, in fact a general freight truck driver is keenly aware of the need to put freight on his truck to make money, as driving around empty doesn’t do it.
We are more aware of the need for the health of other businesses than most know of other businesses or give a rats about.
So double fuck you.

Let this be a warning.
As the truth hits you like a tonne of bricks, and you can no longer live in a state of denialism, you may feel like lashing out at all and sundry and making a goat of yourself.

March 28, 2022

COVID-19 vaccination data from the province of Ontario, Canada reports that the 7-day moving average of infection rates in people who are fully vaxed and boosted is 17.18 cases per 100,000 people, compared to 9.19 cases per 100,000 people in those who are not fully vaxed. These data show almost twice the rate of COVID-19 infections in the people receiving the most COVID-19 vaccines, flipping the expectations of vaccine effectiveness on its head. At long last, it appears that the observational evidence is now coming in supporting research findings of approximately one percent vaccine efficacy in the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine clinical trials: Outcome Reporting Bias in COVID-19 mRNA Vaccine Clinical Trials.

Would have been better if someone at Epoch Times had read the article properly.

The ET piece dated 28 March, 2022 quotes:

In a November 21, 2021, tweet, cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra writes:(1)
“Extraordinary, disturbing, upsetting. We now have evidence of a plausible biological mechanism of how mRNA vaccine may be contributing to increased cardiac events. The abstract is published in the highest impact cardiology journal so we must take these findings very seriously.”

Strangely enough, the ET piece fails to mention that a week later, the “highest impact cardiology journalpublished an ‘expression of concern’ warning that the abstract was plagued with errors and “in its current version may not be reliable.

Or that, on 21 December 2021, the author submitted corrections that admit that the original abstract conclusion is not actually statistically based – not the least being that the title changed from the dramatically definitive:

Mrna COVID Vaccines Dramatically Increase Endothelial Inflammatory Markers and ACS Risk as Measured by the PULS Cardiac Test: a Warning

To the slightly more nuanced:

Observational Findings of PULS Cardiac Test Findings for Inflammatory Markers in Patients Receiving mRNA Vaccines

And before I’m jumped on for being an insane “denier” by the usual suspects, I’m simply looking for reasons other than susceptibility due to the vaxx.

Would another reason why there is a higher representation be that the vaxxed are more out there moving around in public transport, jobs etc. since the unvaxxed have been excluded from normal life? So they aren’t as exposed to viral loads? What about age cohort? Are older people more likely to be vaxxed plus have not so effective immune systems?

I had to take a break for my own sanity, only returning when a few started to wake up.

Trying to help those hurt against their will, I spent months and months trying to prevent them hurting themselves only to become the evil bastard you think I am for doing so.
What have you done?

When you act like that, and then complain that no-one cares to support your own circumstances, you shouldn’t expect anything except the abuse and contempt I have shown you

Especially regarding the trucking industry.

However, I do make a point of them flashing their good “Nazi Passes” around, and going on holidays to Europe to leave the rest here making a stand do the dirty work.

Since the beginning of the war on 24th February, one journalist has been killed on average per week in Ukraine. Responsibility for these deaths was blamed on Russian troops, but we know that the chance that these professionals were killed by Ukrainians, not Russians, is very high.”

These are the words of freelance Brazilian photo-journalist André Liohn who fled Ukraine in fear of his life just five weeks into his assignment for Brazilian media outlets UOL and Folha de S.Paulo. Yep, on the few occasions that a counter vax article sneaks into the literature, the cleanup crews go to work and get it pulled quick smart!

Possibly.

Fact is though that in any debate you will find degrees of lunacy at the extreme ends, and as long as you recognise yourself as being on one side rather than another there will be some people who are more destructive to the cause they clamour for. Speaking of ‘sides’ more or less puts you on a spectrum and the problem with spectra is that there are so many dimensions that a human extends into.

Take the current vaccine debate. On the side of people opposed to Covid vaccine mandates are those opposed to any mandate in principle, those who are more concerned with this vaccines being poorly tested and risks concealed, and people who think all vaccines are part of a conspiracy. Well, that Figures.

So it is not beyond the realm of possibility that someone might publish an article which, as purported, would seem to vindicate my opinions, but which after more rigorous attention turns out to be fudged. I do not assume all extremists are on the ‘other’ side. Sadly they are not.

But they are a gift for your opponents.

Is Gonzalo Lira:-
.1 a Fearless Freedom Fighter? Or
.2 a Flaky Fruitcake Fraudster?

My money’s on the latter.

I don’t trust Gonzalo Lira. Not one bit. I suspect he isn’t even in Ukraine anymore – notice how he no longer appears on camera. Now, he claims this is because he was threatened by Ukrainian thugs when he was in Kiev (a Russian news channel did a dodgy edit of an interview he gave and broadcast it on Russian TV, making him appear ridiculously pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian). He says he was kicked out of Kiev, had to return to Kharkov and relocate to an undisclosed location ‘in central Kharkov’, and that’s why he won’t appear on camera, in case his background gives away his location.

But that doesn’t make a lot of sense. It isn’t difficult to set your background up so that your location can’t be identified (hell, just blurring the background would do the trick). And since then he’s turned HARD against the Zelensky regime and criticises it stridently. If the Ukrainians were pissed off about what he said before, they’re going to be apoplectic about his present stance. I don’t care how ‘undisclosed’ his location is in central Kharkov – if Ukrainian goons wanted to find him, it might take them all of half an hour to find him. Maybe less.

I believe him when he says he was threatened by Ukrainian agents after his inadvertent appearance on Russian TV, but I think it much more likely that he got the hell out of Ukraine (or was kicked out) rather than return to a place where he could be easily found. But he doesn’t want to give up his sudden relevance as ‘the man on the ground’ in the middle of a war zone, telling it like it is. So he doesn’t appear on camera – probably because he had to leave his setup in Ukraine in the process of getting the hell outta Dodge – and plays audio of air raid sirens ringing out now and again during interviews, giving him a chance to drop an ‘oh sorry that’s just another air raid alert, you get used to it when you’re in the middle of a hot war zone. By the way, did I mention I’m in central Kharkov in an undisclosed location, and I’m bravely delivering you all the truth about the Ukrainian government at considerable risk to my well-being? Only for the 50th time? Silly me, I thought it was only the 40th time. But it’s important you know.’

And that’s how you go from ‘Coach Red Pill’; low-rent, deplatformed, dirtbag manosphere hack*, to Gonzalo Lira, fearless war correspondent and geostrategic expert. Quite the reinvention. But I don’t buy it.

*I listened to a couple of his anti-woman ramblings way back when, and his takes were uniformly awful. Some of the manosphere commentators are fine – their content isn’t of interest to me but I can see it would be for others- however, Coach Red Pill sounds genuinely misogynistic and his content was primarily ‘why you shouldn’t date [insert chosen adjective here, eg English/tall/autistic/rich/ pet-owning/skinny/fat/educated /Asian/well travelled/older/redheaded/professional/etc] women’.

So, a counter vax article with a high impact working title:

“Mrna COVID Vaccines Dramatically Increase Endothelial Inflammatory Markers and ACS Risk as Measured by the PULS Cardiac Test: a Warning

…is submitted to a high impact journal.

And then on peer review it turns out that there is no reasonable statistical basis for the dramatic warning.

And then the author concurs there is a problem and resubmits.

Yes indeedy.
I sense the invisible hand of Schwab somewhere near all this.

Hopefully Dr Gundry has now been reunited with his children (and they have all their fingers and ears).

It’s interesting to observe people finally sick of poorly-constructed wordwalls about how this country is going to shit entirely because millions of people will not do things exactly as one person thinks they should be done, and those people’s entirely on-point responses which trigger larger, more intricate hyped-up wordwalls.

A cornucopia of ‘murder death kill’ and ‘all I did was suggest’ and ‘get a fucking clot and die you shallow cock smokers’, all because everyone didn’t pick up someone’s flag immediately and run with it.

Of particular interest is the pointing of fingers and crying ‘Emotion!’ when you can actually see the blood pressure rising, as the intensity of said wordwalls increases over the course of the day – fuelled by the intransigence of The People in not bending to one person’s will*. The props – trucks, the flag and Anzac Day have lost their meaning to the author because he uses them as trinkets. Like Bosi.

The wordwaller has hitched his star to countless wagons, including Faulty, NFA, Bosi and Palmer. Switch. Fail. Switch. Rejected. Switch. Fail. And so on.

Kneel is bang on. The heavy vehicle industry was for generations the province of chunky white boys who watched the education and retail and IT sectors become gradually overtaken by the ponzis described earlier, and didn’t say or do a goddamned thing.

The relatively new introduction of chicks into the industry, and as detailed in the masterful documentary Outback Truckers would have caused conniptions in the industry – and I bet one of the complaints would have been ‘how can we back one out on the side of the road now?’

If anything, this entire wordwalling exercise has demonstrated that at least one Australian quality remains intact. Although – as a people – we’ll bow to faceless Big Government, we won’t be told what to do by individuals waving our banners from pulpits.

*Also fuelled by Bundy (or West End) cans.

I’m trying to get my head around the infection vaxxed/unvaxxed figures.

Calli, my husband and I have remained unvaxxed for COVID for these last couple of years. We live for 5 days out of eight on the farm & return to Sydney for 3 days in rotation. When at the farm we visit regional centres for groceries and farm supplies. In Sydney, again, we frequent supermarkets. During the whole of the period of mandates, we still visited (& enjoyed visits) of family and enlightened friends.

During lockdown we were still able to visit Sydney, and did so, with travel permits. Of course, during that period we were unable to shop in many department stores, attend restaurants and pubs, or get our hair cut. Since the relaxation of the mandates, we have been able to attend all of these venues. And, of course, we attended the recent Canberra rally of over 100,000 people (we were THERE & know what 100,000 people looks like en masse).

So – the point of all this is …….we have had quite a significant amount of contact with other people. Now, as I have posted on this blog many times – we have been on a regime of healthy diet and specific vitamins for over two years. The odd bit of Ivermectin on our hands when drenching cattle hasn’t gone astray either – although it only lasts for 30 days!

However, I am not cavalier about all of this. It is possibly that either my husband and I have had a mild case of COVID in the past few months. Indeed, there was an occasion that my husband exhibited some signs (& was promptly treated by me with the recommended available treatments according to the protocol of the FLCCC physicians) which may have been COVID.

So who knows? But the point about all of this – is that the unvaxxed (& we know quite a few) don’t necessarily node themselves away!!

Would have been better if someone at Epoch Times had read the article properly.

Good luck with that Dr. Faustus. That abstract is regularly posted here, again last night. People who post such rubbish don’t appreciate that it ruins their credibility to push this type of material as proof. If I encounter someone consistently linking to crap I stop reading them. The author of that abstract, Gundry, pops up on my youtube feed occasionally with some rubbish about nutrition and flogs his own propriety supplements. He’s a crank and a snake oil salesman.

Some people don’t care about the quality of the links they provide. So long as it suits their narrative they’ll use it as evidence to support their position and do so knowing that the majority of people never bother to check the links.

I note the gravitation from ‘The New World Order are putting tiny self-aware robots in vaccines’ (that line of commentary, by the way, had died out – why is that?) to ‘well now you’re all getting AIDS, so there’ and also from ‘the unvaccinated are all going to be put in death camps to die’ to ‘everyone vaccinated will die in 13 to 43 to 55 months’.

yeah, it’s funny – usually the young ones are a bit wary of me at first, being the “big scary man”. But it doesn’t take long for them to realise that at heart I am really a big softy who loves to play as much as they do, and after that it takes about 10 minutes before they are squealing in delight at the games we play. That’s when the requests for baby sitting come. Followed by said reply. And the parents never seem to be sure if I’m serious or not (of course I’m not really serious, but no need to tell them, right?)
And I really do enjoy that sort of stuff – bit of “dad” type physical play stuff is really nice, and the kids enjoy it too.
So yes, definitely all good here too.

Another point of BS re: Gonzalo Lira is his constant “my sources can confirm” shtick. But when you hear what these sources are confirming, it’s clear he doesn’t have the inside track on anything much – he gets the same shit off Telegram that anyone else can access. He adds no additional value to the analysis apart from his claimed status as being ‘on the ground’ – but I doubt this is the case, as described above. Meaning he adds no additional value. He’s just another guy with an opinion. Which would be fine if that was all he claimed to be. However, he claims to be much more than that, which makes him a phoney.

If you were worried that Hollywood’s elite were doing it tough during the pandemic, well worry no more.

Every single Oscars nominee was gifted a goodie bag valued at $140,000 — more than most people earn in a year — and you won’t believe what was in it.

And then Oscars goes full Tony Abbott:

Nominees all received a piece of land in Scotland through Highland Titles. While the size of land has not been revealed, the title will make them a “Laird, Lord or Lady of Glencoe”.

We must steel ourselves to protect an Australian way of life. Resurrect would be more appropriate.

Just went to the bank to deposit cash in the low four figures, the proceeds from the sale of four spare wheels and tyres, plus some other stuff, belonging to a vehicle I no longer own.

I was required to provide ID and sign — then told to sign again because the bank johnny didn’t think my signature looked like the one on the back of my card.

Australia, where the sensible but supine must do as instructed by nannies and ninnies.

Banks have always had strange people running them. Years ago wife goes into our branch of Westpac in St Georges Tce for a loan for a car as the accountant said. Little johnnie bank assistant manager said ‘your husband will have to co-sign’. Red rag to a bull. Have you even looked at our account? Can I use your phone? She rang me at the office, I was down in about five minutes as our office was in Mount St. By this time she was having words with the Manager. I asked what was the balance, assistant manager goes pink, I write out a withdrawal slip then walk up the road to ANZ.
