The Sermon on the Mount has traditionally been understood to have taken place in Galilee. As noted in this thread, the local language would have been either Aramaic or Koine Greek. That’s why Jesus’ name in the language of 1st century AD Judea is “Yeshua” (Aramaic) rather than “Joshua” (or “Yehoshua”) (Hebrew).

Be that as it may Timothy, I understood that Yeshua was an abbreviated form of Yehoshua (or Yahoshua – Yah’s Salvation), my point was that there was an original Book of Matthew which was written in Hebrew which was used by the Nazarenes.

Torres Strait islanders are Polynesians. Their ancestors kept going past Melanesia to Polynesia.

As I recall pigs came to PNG from the Torres Strait peoples about 2000 years ago. They were different cultures then, and there was a big dividing line between the peoples of the inland and of the coast, because of malaria.

I suppose the idea of race, gender, and now ability swapping of modern productions is an attempt to make the point that the values and truths are not to be mistakenly seen as only relevant to men. The same truths will manifest themselves (if they are really true) regardless of who plays protagonist and antagonist.

I would find it easier to believe that the people who claim this believed it were it not for the feverish urgency and sadistic glee with which they do all this swapping. Whoever the male hero was they want to replace him with a woman who is more smarter and more gifted than the male version. A Mary-Sue. While men are always bumbling, stupid, and if not evil then easily playing into its hands, and needing to be rescued by the new woman hero.

Apparently there is a new film about Mary, Queen of Scots replete with Black and Asian characters – and more than a few distortions of other characters to feed the egos of gays or something.

If they made a story such as that set in the future (but not just Mary, Queen of Scots 2300 set in the future, I just mean a new story that argued the same points) then I would have absolutely no problem with it.

But if you know enough history to have a sense of times past – the dynamics between classes, men and women (I won’t say ‘gender’ as I doubt anyone who resorts to that term to explain the world is anywhere near manly enough to be compared as a man, or womanly enough to be compared as a woman), previous events, subsequent events etc – then this swapping to make it like now is a jarring disconnect.

How do you think these people would feel if we made a new version of Zulu, where the soldiers are black, and the natives white? It should not matter as both sides were heroic. Or a new version of version of Malcolm X? (Actually, they can keep him. Loathsome character.) Or a version of Roots where some of the slaves were white, and some of the masters black? Slavery is abhorrent regardless of who is enslaved, surely?

Now, for them, the above would be beyond the pale, especially the last because they would be affronted on racial grounds. No white person can claim cover under slavery, and no black person would have been a slave-owner. It was a situation with a clear racial divide. But, again, is the injustice of slavery only a racial one. And black people were not prohibited from success under Mary – they just weren’t there, so you could argue race doesn’t matter. (They weren’t there, so it doesn’t matter. That doesn’t sound credible, does it?)

There a few online movie/TV critics I follow. The Critical Drinker is, I suppose, my fave. His review of Prometheus was pitch-perfect, although he has had to done down the inebriation factor as he has become attained higher profile. There are also Nerdrotic and Just Some Guy. They have proven to me to be very astute as to the machinations of the swappers.

Oh, and they are already sounding the alarm over how bad Amazon’s LOTR: The Rings of Power is probably going to be. Two months to go and they still won’t let anyone know what it might be about – confining themselves to teasers which have lots of scenery and uncontextualised shots. Even their new trailer is indistinguishable from a teaser.

Amazon has taken Tolkien, stolen a few elements of his story and the visual stylings of Peter Jackson’s movies, and made a series dishonest to both to push a shallow messaging that they now seem afraid to own up to. They have certainly butchered Tolkien’s characters to make Galadriel a warrior lady, the champion of the hobbits a woman (hobbyt?) and the one truly evil character, Sauron, is the pastiest white guy you can imagine.

In the past a black hat signified a bad guy. Now it is white maleness.

What they claim again and again is that people need to be able to identify themselves in movies and comics and whatnot. But they only recognise two and a half dimensions of identity: Race, real sex, and the swirling shifting shades of sex (the non-G and L parts of GLBTQIETC). They declare that we must be open to diversity, but they are blind to most types – which real people see as nothing more remote than ‘the guy next door’.

I grew up learning the lessons of Italians against Jews in the form of The Merchant of Venice. I raged indignant for Moorish Othello against his Christian Iago. After having my heart near broken by the Catholic Thomas More in A Man for All Seasons I cheered on the English fleet against the Catholic Spanish Armada and the Catholic French in Hornblower and Sharpe. I have rallied behind the comical simplicity of Homer Simpson (and they knew the audience would as well despite precious few people seeing themselves as simpletons) – and how did the movie The Castle work again? I feel stupid having to define it this way but there are real human feelings attached – I have sided with the short against the tall, the unsophisticated against cunning, etc. I cheered for Ripley in Aliens and knew Geordi in Star Trek would save the day.

Yes, I identify with many people on TV and in cinema. Tall or short. Clever or naive. Male or female. Catholic or protestant. Rich or poor. Educated or untutored. Fat or thin. Old or young. Parochial or international. Black or white. Married or single. Office working or labouring. Australian, British, or French, or Asian peasant.

Catching myself time and again in the dazzling kaleidoscopic flashes of circumstance the Tits and Melanin view of art is so tragically vapid and shallow that it only really fits its miserable adherents.

I don’t know how much Greek was spoken, I do know from Jewish history and sources in the Talmud that immersing yourself in the Greek language and Greek culture was frowned upon, it was a path to assimilation.

Given that Matthew was a Levite and a government official, and given that it was the Levites who led the Maccabee Revolt against the Greeks, I don’t think that he would have been a great fan of Hellenization.

ML – One of my wishes for about the last 20 years is that someone somewhere would do a decent screen version of the Honor Harrington stories. Unfortunately they’re very righty, and David Weber is a Christian. Big no no for screen adaptations…

Admiral Honor Harrington herself is a female analogue of Lord Nelson, since the whole series is based on the Napoleonic wars. But her monarch Queen Elizabeth of Manticore is a fine lady who is black as the ace of spades. Reminds me of a cross between Condoleezza Rice and Margaret Thatcher. Nope, that ain’t going to fly either, same as Candace Owens is a name which must never be spoken.

I am sad that the fillum business has gone so lefty, there are many many stories that could be told, but which don’t get told because they aren’t convenient to lefty politics.

A couple of months ago I asked the learned folk on this blog who had some understanding of the Sydney railway network why the railway line from Parramatta to Carlingford was removed instead of extending it a few kilometres to Epping. That would’ve provided a direct rail route from Parramatta to Hornsby and Chatswood via Epping.

That seemed like a sensible thing to do given the huge population increases in north-west Sydney, and suburbs like Carlingford being dormitory suburbs where people went to sleep at night and where they brushed their teeth before heading off to work the next morning. There’s no employment there, everyone works somewhere else, and they are forced to commute by road when a better railway link was possible.

Last night YouTube popped a video into my suggestions list made by someone who was also wondering why the Carlingford to Epping rail line wasn’t built.

And those that have been told are made to disappear. We see Charlton Heston as Gordon being beaten by Muslims at Khartoum, but we do not, at least in recent times, see him as El Cid, beating Muslim invaders in Spain.

On a more parochial note, the made for TV series ANZACs was made in the 1980s, to commemorate by telling part of their story. I thought it might reappear during the WW I centenary between 2014 and 2018, bur apparently not, (Or maybe I missed it?)

Helen, It’s getting to the stage where the replacement number of children is up around 4.

You need to take into account:
1) Hospital system letting your kid die from myocarditis
2) Schools suffocating them with masks
3) Social infertility for 50% of the females due to aversion to overly forward men, or an acquired taste for carpet.
4) Social infertility for 50% of the males due to not having it drilled into them that the prime directive for males is the continuation of the species.
5) Starvation due to employers insisting on untested ,potentially mutagenic treatment just to remain employed.

etc, etc.

The days when you could have 2 kids and assume a few grandchildren as your legacy are gone.

Marry early, have children early, have at least 3 preferably 5, then you can make the world your (and their) oyster. Wait, and the family line will end with you or your simp kid.

Presenting Normie Swan, the Tim Flannery of medicine (the Tele). Day 1:

Celebrity doctor turned ABC coronavirus expert Norman Swan has been accused of sowing confusion over just how contagious the latest strains of the omicron variant are.

On Monday, Dr Swan appeared on Patricia Karvelas’ RN Breakfast show on Radio National, where he suggested that the BA. 4 and BA. 5 were as transmissible as measles – thought to be one of the most contagious diseases on earth.

Asked about how readily the new Covid variants spread, Dr Swan said that they were “up around measles, which is one of the most contagious viruses we know.”

Day 2:

But just a day later, Dr Swan broadcast a new edition of the ABC’s “Coronacast”, in which he said that the calculation that the variants spread as fast as measles were “based on early South African data on BA.5.”

“Some people have said if you extrapolate from Delta, Alpha and Gamma and so on, it could be (around) … the lower end of the measles spectrum, and I’ve been guilty of that as well, talking about it being almost like measles. It’s certainly not more contagious than measles,” he said.

Several points:
1. Swan is a grifter and a flog;
2. He’s using the George Negus ‘some people have said’ line; and
2. I had not realised the ABC was panicmongering to the extent they had a ‘Coronacast’.

As Ukraine Signs Up Soldiers, Questions Arise About How It Chooses

Recruiters approach young men on the street, but the standards are not always clear and there are reports of unwilling men being signed up while some eager to fight are turned away.

But the effort, especially the street recruiting, is drawing accusations that it is secretive and arbitrary, that it violates the government’s own rules and that it sometimes drafts the unwilling while spurning the willing. It has also led to a cat-and-mouse game between recruiters and men trying to avoid them.

Recruiters like Oleksandr, who did not give his full name because he was not authorized to speak to the media, say they issue summonses to register only to those who want to fight. “We ask them, do they have military training and do they want to serve in the war?” he said.

But some of those on the receiving end say they were never given a choice about appearing, while there are reports of men who are eager to fight being turned away, for reasons that appear bureaucratic in nature.

A petition signed by more than 25,000 Ukrainians, the threshold for requiring President Volodymyr Zelensky to respond, requests a ban on issuing summonses at checkpoints, gas stations and other public places. It asks him to establish a transparent process for when people might be called up.

Denis, 29, said he was recently handed a summons he did not want outside a Kharkiv supermarket. But at the recruitment office, “I lied and said I didn’t have any military training,” he recalled — a lie that may not be caught because his records are in a different part of Ukraine. Denis, who did not want his last name to be published for fear of punishment, added, “I know guys who don’t even leave their apartments because they’re afraid to get a summons, but I also know a lot of people who want to fight.”

In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city by population, a channel on the messaging app Telegram provides anonymous, crowdsourced, real-time information on the locations of recruiters for people trying to steer clear of them. It has more than 67,000 subscribers.

“Our goal is to prevent the inappropriate issuance of summonses,” reads the channel description. It invites residents to send in locations and photos of police officers and recruiters.

But the numbers have not been enough to match the Russians’ battlefield strength — or to keep up with casualties, which officials have said peaked this spring at 100 killed and almost 400 wounded daily.

There are also signs, five grueling months into the war, that the sense of unity is fraying at the edges. Soldiers, including minimally prepared raw recruits, have done long, hard service, while others have managed to stay far from it.

Last month, the Kyiv police chief, Ivan Vyhivskyi, said that police and military commissars raided two nightclubs that were violating curfew and issued 219 summonses for military registration to men they found there.

That drew a sharp response from a senior sergeant of the 47th Armed Forces Battalion in a Facebook post this month.

“I am proud of my military service and I am outraged that my profession is being reduced to the level of punishment for these scumbags,” wrote the sergeant, Valeriy Markus. “It’s humiliating.”

He wrote that soldiers and officers who put their lives on the line were demoralized by a chaotic recruitment process that drew draftees with poor qualifications or little inclination to serve.

BIDEN ADMINISTRATION

How the CDC Coordinated With Big Tech To Censor Americans

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention coordinated with social media companies and Google to censor users who expressed skepticism or criticism of COVID-19 vaccines, according to a trove of internal communications obtained by America First Legal and shared exclusively with the Washington Free Beacon.

Over the course of at least six months, starting in December 2020, CDC officials regularly communicated with personnel at Twitter, Facebook, and Google over “vaccine misinformation.” At various times, CDC officials would flag specific posts by users on social media platforms such as Twitter as “example posts.”

In one email to a CDC staffer, a Twitter employee said he is “looking forward to setting up regular chats” with the agency. Other emails show the scheduling of meetings with the CDC over how to best police alleged misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines.

Although many of the posts flagged by the CDC contained false information about the COVID-19 vaccines, the efforts to police misinformation also resulted in mistaken acts of censorship. An April 2021 email from a CDC staffer to Facebook states that the “algorithms that Facebook and other social media networks are apparently using to screen out posting by sources of vaccine misinformation are also apparently screening out valid public health messaging, including [Wyoming] Health communications.”

The communications reveal a high level of coordination between the government and tech industry during the pandemic and raise questions about the extent to which other private companies are working with the federal government to censor the public. The Biden administration has faced criticism for engaging in what some have called “Orwellian” practices, such as the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security Disinformation Governance Board. The Free Beacon reported that the now-shuttered disinformation board arranged a meeting with a Twitter executive who blocked users from sharing stories about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

The CDC’s effort to police alleged disinformation expanded to other federal agencies as well. An internal March 2021 email from a senior CDC staffer states “we are working on [sic] project with Census to leverage their infrastructure to identify and monitor social media for vaccine misinformation.”

Another lead balloon Australian stock hits the skids.
F45 listed last year at $16 a share amid a flurry of publicity, with Mark Wahlberg among the investors.
It is now trading at $1.60 and heading south.
What is F45?
It is a gym franchise which does 45 minute sessions. As does nearly every other gym programme.
It seems to provide nothing out of the ordinary in content (cardio, weights, endurance).
I often wondered where the value was.
But there wasn’t any value, so I’ve stopped wondering.

A tiny minority mostly women in rainbow scarves and wigs, one plump middle aged grand dame was carrying a bouquet of rainbow coloured roses. Some males had rainbow Amnesty International badges. A few pride flags but not much. A generally typical Brookvale crowd.

There are several things going on here. The first is that there’s a hierarchy of oppression within progressivism, in which LGBTIQA+ is at the apex.

Bam.

So the inclusivists, the diversivists, in sport or wherever, have got it all wrong. By turning an issue of moral choice into contractual compliance and ideological campaigning, they have produced an enormous amount of hurt, anger and unnecessary conflict.

BAM.

Manly-Warringah has basically run this like some 19th-century plantation whose owners are Fabians, reading Bernard Shaw, teaching the peons badminton. They annihilate native culture for Christianity, then annihilate native Christian culture for “diversity”. Every new missionary damns the last. And the truly brainwashed are the progressives who have fallen into lockstep against them, and fallen short of the independence of thought and courage that modernity demands.

A single election audit in Maricopa County, Arizona, discovered evidence of hundreds of thousands of potentially fraudulent and questionable ballots.” Link

But, but, but … Piers Morgan and so many in the media assured us that “there is no evidence of electoral fraud in 2020”. For those looking for good old fashioned corporate skulduggery in a series, I’m re-watching The Plane Makers, early 1960s British. It was the forerunner of the excellent The Power Game.

A couple of points. This is series 3. Series 1 was lost thanks to vandals who destroyed the films to make space. Series 2 is alleged to exist, but I can’t find it.

And, what a different Britain! A force in manufacturing and technology, optimistic about the future. Patrick Wymark’s Wilder would have been welcome at Maggie T.’s dinner table 20 years later … but he was dead.

Wymark’s daughter Jane played the ghastly Joyce Barnaby in Midsomer Murders. She was as left wing as all get out, the classic doctor’s wife. Guilt-tripping, ‘caring’, up for every cause going, and ultimately wimpy.

I find it hard to believe that they were related.

I see that TheirABC has its daily story about the high price of rentals up.

Strangely, almost all of them feature ‘single mothers.’ There is always a cone of silence over the fathers – where are they in all this?

There is no denying that there are serious housing problems around, but as usual, TheirABC can be relied on to cherrypick favoured groups for special attention. I remember one a few weeks ago where an unemployed blimp (female) covered in metal piercings and bad tatts complained that real estate agents and landlords were discriminating against her, with tacit support from our taxes.

Every single time, the proposed solution is more taxpayer built and then subsidised housing.

Although, there was a story there the other day which was described in the headline as a ‘unique’ solution. Three generations of a family clubbed in together to rent. As Gerald would say – pretty unique, eh?

Consumers warned of looming ‘nightmare’ as AEMO reports record wholesale electricity costs

In a report released today, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) said wholesale power costs soared to unprecedented levels in the three months to June 30 amid the crisis engulfing the energy system.

Average prices for the quarter were $264 per megawatt hour — an extraordinary 203 per cent increase on the first three months of the year, and about six times higher than the long-term trend.

While noting there were many reasons behind the upheaval, AEMO said one of the biggest was a lack of coal-fired power generation at various times.

According to AEMO, the shortfall of coal capacity left gas-fired generation playing an outsized role in the market at the same time as prices for the fuel reached stratospheric levels.

Another of the “many reasons” is the failure of AEMO to insist on a technically-based approach to building out renewables.

This present situation is not down to the Poot, or cold weather, or the operational failure of the coal fleet. It is 97.3% due to incompetence, wilful ignorance, and hopey hope amongst the political class.

Everything happening was predictable and was predicted. Not Nostradamus and crystal balls; engineering and physics.

This is what failure looks like.

Some musings on a cold winter morning at a motel primarily used by tradie types.

Firstly, as motel guests, they are the best. They rock up from around 4pm onwards, collect their keys, and are gone by 8.30 am at the latest. Most are in bed by 10 pm, because they start leaving at 5.30 – 6 am. 7 -7.30 is peak leaving time.

They have a meal and maybe a few quiet beers, but party animals don’t last long in that world.

Second, in this part of the world a lot of them are doing stuff related to water. They are drilling, installing, repairing, scoping out new work, and installing and fixing the electrics. People who turn on the tap and expect water don’t realise that it involves a lot of electrical power and expertise.

Thirdly, 90% of the vehicles are white. It’s so boring, but there must be a good reason for it. Does anyone know why?

On the weekends we get all sorts of riff raff. Trouble, noise, vomit, the whole nine yards. No wonder management treats tradies with TLC.

Simple. In the new order of things, the race rung is way down the ladder of activism. And like all rungs, will be trodden on to get to the top. A means to an end if you will.

Those who think their race will protect them are sadly misguided. They are being used while imagining they are “using”. Hot on the heals of turning up at Kelly-Jay Keen’s home, Harry Miller has been arrested for “hate speech against pedophiles”.

I saw a vague reference to the first incident and Googled “Wiltshire Police Apology”.
Some solid returns from that search.
In 2015 they were caught out demanding the names of buyers of Charlie Hebdo magazine after the Moosley massacre in Paris.
So buying a commemorative magazine after brutal murders is hate-speech?
This is not merely a few misguided types who misinterpreted their training. That Police Force in particular has form.

Gotta wonder how Manly players, sponsors and the NRL feel about this .. sort of leaves “competing” on the interchange bench .. LOL!
Manly Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn says standing firm on the NRL club’s values is “more important” than on-field results, with his depleted team succumbing to the Sydney Roosters following the controversy.

Another brush with Australia’s public health system. GP appointment at 2pm. Through the ED of a major tertiary hospital and home by 6pm. Leaving ED standing room only – must have been close to 100 people there. As usual, once you get to the front of the queue the actual treatment was fine.

I saw a Mormon with only one wife.

Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America.

Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children’s names.

A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico.

I don’t agree calli.
On twitter 4chan reddit I saw vindictive death wishing triumphant over the alleged death of doctors (woot!) from boosters.
And also a lot of dumb, the chopping off the end of the hospital memos should have rung alarm bells, and pointing to what were obvious bot generated death notices on the internet as proof was dumb too.
It’s becoming more and more like a cult.
Most people who got vaccinated, did so and got on with their lives.
Only a tiny percentage cling to the mask lockdown narrative and if they have serious health problems maybe that’s not so unreasonable.

Rosie, people are being played for sh*ts, giggles and profit. On both sides of the paddock.

It’s human nature to align your thinking to one side or another, and for some that alignment has come at tremendous cost. The heavier the investment, the more the viewpoint is clung to, even to the point of gloating over the plight (real or imagined) of the other side. I have seen stuff on social media from the vaxxed, for instance, that makes my hair stand on end. Ditto the unvaxxed.

No one is completely above it all. Certainly not me. My disgust is directed at the string pullers, not the bulk hapless marionettes.

A couple of points. This is series 3. Series 1 was lost thanks to vandals who destroyed the films to make space. Series 2 is alleged to exist, but I can’t find it.

Crop insurance is up 25% from last year based on my farm figures.

Insurers are also cutting off cover for growers in many municipalities.
Hindmarsh Shire in western Vic has seen the books closed on any further insurance.
There’s no seasonal or historical reason that I can see for such action in regard to risk. Perhaps it’s risk to the general pool from other possible claims outside agriculture emanating from the big reinsurers.

And I think they will come armed with evidence, like SBW removing alcohol adverts from his gear with NRL and sponsor approval.
But that won’t suit the narrative.
A team taking to the field with 40% not wearing rainbow patches (roughly the SSM “No” vote percentage) ruins the image that everyone is on board, thus blowing up the attempt to gaslight all those NRL viewers out there in TV land.

In a previous life I occasionally had dealings with the modern, university educated journalist. They almost invariably got important details wrong because they lacked knowledge of the Sitz im Leben of the story they were covering(due to a lack of real life experience that a previous generation of journos had in spades) and they don’t know how to check their prejudices. There are certainly exceptions, but they are just that – exceptions.

Manly Sea Eagles chairman Scott Penn says standing firm on the NRL club’s values is “more important” than on-field results

The clubs values? Hmmm, I wonder how those are divined. What is the process by which the club’s values are distilled?

No need to really go into that. It will be the decisions of the board who have been informed reports from PR and marketing research firms.

I doubt they have consulted their members, and we know they have not asked the players. I doubt the club’s founding documents say anything about punishing people for keeping to their conscience rather than lending full-throated unthinking support to whatever the CEO says.

Talking about ‘club values’ also shows that this situation is just the thin edge of the wedge. There are plenty of causes that this club can be expected to fall down to its knees before simply because of the ‘research’ they are given. BLM, the ‘voice’ in Parliament, AGW (perhaps they can have hairshirt jerseys), etc.

And in the future there will be more causes, each clambering to the top of the pile where they stand as ‘a blazing indictment’ until newer causes clamber above them to steal the light. Domestic violence, child abuse are obvious ones. They will involve obviously inflated numbers spewed from studies, reports, and government papers. Child love might make an appearance. Animal love might. Sounds farfetched? Demanding that we all admire trannies sounded so once as well.
