Twilio promises ‘anti-racist’ layoffs as CEO says 11% job cuts won’t hit workers from ‘marginalized communities’ more than others

As you all know, we are committed to becoming an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression company. Layoffs like this can have a more pronounced impact on marginalized communities, so we were particularly focused on ensuring our layoffs – while a business necessity today – were carried out through an Anti-Racist/Anti-Oppression lens.

Don’t have sex with locals or livestock, Wagner Group tells recruits
Prisoners warned they will be executed if they arrive in Ukraine and refuse to fight

Ukraine

The head of a notorious pro-Kremlin mercenary group has told inmates at a Russian prison that they will be set free if they survive a six-month tour of duty in Ukraine, but executed if they try to desert.

The offer was made to convicts at a prison camp in central Russia by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a wealthy tycoon who runs the Wagner Group private military contractor. The group’s fighters have been accused of war crimes in Ukraine and Syria.

“In six months you will go home, having been pardoned,” Prigozhin, 61, told inmates at the prison in central Russia. “There is no chance of returning to prison.” Those who refuse to fight after arriving in Ukraine would be classified as deserters, he said. “And then they will be shot.”

Prigozhin said Wagner fighters were barred from drinking or using drugs while at the front. He also said they were forbidden to “have sexual contact with local women, flora, fauna, men, whoever.” Russian forces have been accused of raping Ukrainian women in occupied towns.

Top 10 E bike explosions and fires. An appetiser of Elbows electric future:

Yep, lithium battery fires are closer to blow torches than slow smoke and flames. They will be banned from buildings (and lifts!) and carparks before long and should be – once the battery is damaged or develops a fault, it short circuits and burns – putting it out is useless as the damaged battery just heats up again and away we go. As the clip showed, CO2 and powder are particularly useless as they don’t reduce the heat.

In my days as a volunteer fireman, our SOP for Tesla fires was to order 10 tons of water and quarantine for 3 days! (no – never went to one).

People nearby got solar installed last week with what looked like a powerwall installed inside the garage on the internal wall of the house, two storey as well. Don’t know what the regs are for a powerwall but surely not inside your house.

Pretender to the English throne (wiki):

Perkin Warbeck (c. 1474 – 23 November 1499) was a pretender to the English throne claiming to be Richard of Shrewsbury, Duke of York, who was the second son of Edward IV and one of the so-called “Princes in the Tower”. Richard, were he alive, would have been the rightful claimant to the throne, assuming that his elder brother Edward V was dead and that he was legitimate—a point that had been previously contested by his uncle, King Richard III.

Warbeck made several landings in England backed by small armies but met strong resistance from the King’s men and surrendered in Hampshire in 1497. After his capture, he retracted his claim, writing a confession in which he said he was a Fleming born in Tournai around 1474. He was executed on 23 November 1499.

It’s only a matter of time. We are dealing here with a death cult. Kill, kill, kill is their real underlying motivation. And I’m not exaggerating. Isabel McMillanNCA NewsWire
Thu, 15 September 2022 3:14PM

Buckingham Palace has seen its fair share of scandals over the years, but in the wake of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s death, a potential hidden love child in the family could be the biggest yet.

Simon Charles Dorante-Day, 56, claims he was conceived in 1965 by a 17-year-old Charles and 18-year-old Camilla, long before they began their affair.”

LOL, Dorante-Day’s claims are beyond fanciful, beyond absurd, his claim doesn’t even make for a good story. Royal and imperial claimants throughout history, be it Perkin Warbeck, Anna Anderson, Kaspar Hauser, or the many claimants pretending to be Louis XVII, all had good stories, and some claimants, like Perkin Warbeck and Kaspar Hauser, had some merit.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-09-16/wa-art-gallery-wrestles-with-colonial-past/101423236

The only thing they are wrestling with is their own cocks.

It owns priceless pieces of art by the likes of Sidney Nolan, Russell Drysdale, Norman Lindsay, Tom Roberts and even Lucien Freud, as well as one of Australia’s most recognisable masterpieces, Frederick McCubbin’s Down on His Luck.

But if you were hoping to see any of these renowned treasures at the Art Gallery of Western Australia for much of the past two years, you’d have been disappointed.

Most of them haven’t been on display at all.
….
Mr Walker, who took over at AGWA at the start of the pandemic in 2020, said it was time for the gallery to respond to global events and think about the wider context of its art.

“You have to be political in the sense that you’ve got to respond to issues of the day in some shape or form … and you’ve got to give more space to people and artists and communities and ethnicities who have just not had the access before,” he said.
….
Ms Harpley said she wanted to get audiences thinking about the attitudes of the past in a different context, instead of viewing the paintings in a chronological way that presupposed the idea of Western progress.

“It’s thinking about how we’re engaging with the environment, how in the past, we’ve kind of dealt with it in terms of land clearing and running sheep and cattle across it, versus what we might do now,” she said of the dis/possession exhibition.
….
Historical collections curator at the gallery Melissa Harpley said she felt a keen responsibility to look at the gallery’s role in society in the contemporary context of Black Lives Matter, #MeToo and climate change.

Fun fact – there has been so little rain falling in the lakes district in Croatia that they are having trouble with water supply to the villages. Tomorrow they turn the water off at 9am to ration it. Meanwhile, water pressure can’t be maintained. I’m on the 2nd floor, so that’s going to be interesting.

Years ago I was staying in an apartment in Kharkiv and the building manager would turn off the water from 10pm to 5am. Not because there was a water shortage but because he didn’t want to pay for the electricity to pump the water up into the building. So, every apartment had numerous plastic bottles with which to re-fill coffee pot, water glass and the toilet cistern during those hours.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2022/sep/16/federal-government-urged-to-extend-voting-rights-to-16-and-17-year-olds-and-prisoners

The Albanese government is being urged to expand voting rights to 16 and 17-year-olds and people in prison in submissions to an inquiry into the 2022 election.

The academic Prof George Williams has proposed voluntary voting for 16 and 17-year-olds, and regulating “electoral lies” to prevent “baseless claims” such as Donald Trump’s about unproven electoral fraud in the US.

In a separate submission to the joint standing committee on electoral matters, the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service has called for “all restrictions on the right of incarcerated people serving sentences to vote” to be scrapped.
In July Guardian Australia revealed that, after the inquiry, Labor intends to legislate spending caps and truth in political advertising, as well as promote adherence to the one-vote one-value principle.

Even if this were true (ha, ha) he wouldn’t be the heir because they weren’t married at the time. Illegitimacy precludes succession. It would be hard to count all the illegitimate children English kings have had in the past. As Will said above, what he would need is an army.

Could it be that the market is oversupplied with marine biologists who have no regard for academic standards?

A North Queensland university is planning to slash 10 per cent of its workforce as student enrolment continues to plummet.
Key points:

JCU plans to cut 130 jobs, about a tenth of its workforce
It hopes to claw back millions of dollars lost by a drop in student enrolment
The university said more redundancies could be offered in coming years

James Cook University (JCU) has revealed a proposal to cut about 130 jobs from its pool of 1,300 staff at its Townsville and Cairns campuses.

Vice Chancellor Simon Biggs said JCU had experienced a 25 per cent reduction in domestic students in past five years.

He said the job cuts would allow the university to claw back $11 million in salary costs annually.

“Simply put, our student load has been declining for some years and universities in Australia are paid according to the number of students they teach, but our staff load has not declined in the same period,” Professor Biggs said.

The place is a fifth rate degree mill that has hounded and trashed its best teachers and researchers, throwing them into the volcano to appease Gaia.

I hope they go broke.

No, it hasn’t. The coverage on CNN, Fox and Twitter only has Martha’s Vineyard residents complaining that “they’re going to have to move soon” and “there’s no space for them here” and “there are no social services here.”

Tucker was right: MV residents are obviously racist as they should be celebrating the diversity.

Anyway, just wait for the next couple of planes to arrive.

Martha’s Vineyard is not a sanctuary city.

Massachusetts is not a sanctuary state, but there have been proposals for it on Beacon Hill. A sanctuary city or state is a location that limits cooperation with federal immigration laws. There are eight cities in the state that are sanctuary cities. They are Amherst, Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Concord, Newton, Northampton, and Somerville. What they do is legal, and how much they cooperate can vary from city to city.

I presume they will be moved to a city in MA where there are services for them.

BTW, dropped into the local Telstra shop this morning because my thingie that connects me to the internet on a wireless basis died.

The thingie’s battery has died. Turns out that they don’t sell batteries. But, they sold me the original device, with battery. I now have to go to Battery World in Fyshwick to get another. They have no idea what it would cost (yeah, right.)

It was a bumpy ride. I was told by the front man that replacing my Netgear device and battery would cost around $500. My displeasure was manifest.

I was lucky in being assigned to a young Chinese chap with respect for the ancestors.

He found me a dongle (eeeuw!) for $144 that does the job.

While this was going on – I was there just as they were opening – they could not get their payment processor to work. For at least 15 minutes, a staff member tried all sorts while I proffered my credit card several times.

Meanwhile, I discussed implementation with the nice but nerdy Chinese chap. He gave a long list of instructions starting with unpacking the box.

I asked him to do it for me, like installing the battery and switching the SIM card. Which he did. He is a nice chap, no doubt comes from a good family.

Also, I mentioned that if everything didn’t work, I’d be back. Soon. And, neither party wanted that. 🙂

If I hadn’t asked all those questions, I would have had to go back.

Why the hell is it all made so difficult?

Why the hell is it all made so difficult?

Fvcking bureaucracy.

My parents died recently and the executrixes of the estate were denied necessary documentation from banks, centrelink, ATO, Medicare etc because, despite them having all the necessary documents, permissions, POWs and POGs, IDs, certificates etc, it would be a breach of privacy because the aforementioned parents were dead.

The executrixes of the estate made it their business to appear in person at each department, office, branch etc every day with the required documents. They spoke loudly, calmly and insistently (as NO PRIVACY due to covid perspex screens), produced evidence from the officious officials’ own websites and generally made themselves unpopular for several weeks.

As a result of their persistence, probate was granted, the estate was settled and disbursements made within 3 months of the date of departure of the longest lived parent.

Also as a result, the ATO at least has made some significant alterations to their online advice to executors.

It was as if every bank and bureaucracy in this country had never heard of someone dying, and had decided that, since this was such a rare event, there would be no consistent procedures to deal with it. Instead they appeared to DELIBERATELY make the procedure infinitely more difficult and distressing for all bereaved people. cvnts.

When one spouse dies the joint accounts are locked and the survivor used to be temporarily left destitute despite all common sense and justice.
Allegedly, the CBA has a special provision. The CBA has a process that should see the widowed partner given immediate access to cash, while the frozen account thing is sorted out. Haven’t used it but my Mum certainly could have used it when Dad died 26 years ago, so when I saw this on their website I was stoked.
Given the circus I recently went through to change signatories on a society account, I think the staff are the issue more than the actual rules; the training and development have gone to shit in the rush to de-person the customer experience.

https://www.grays.com/lot/0017-3023039/manufacturing/p-le-blond-gap-lathe-p?spr=true

I accidentally visited the old LeBlond factory site while in Cincinnati. Went with a couple of colleagues to a large shopping centre. On arriving a chimney with LeBlond on it revealed where I was. The vast factory had been bulldozed and a shopping centre built, the only remaining building was the engine house which had been turned into a cafe.

comment image&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2F10707024%40N04%2F6980351435&tbnid=Xl-LDX9DfwTUFM&vet=1&docid=cBwz97TZbRSbJM&w=768&h=1024&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim

LeBlond seems to have had some relationship with Sheraton, Fairfield, Melbourne. This seems to have occurred before Sheraton established a relationship with the 600 Group. Thus Sheraton lathes went through a transition where they looked visually identical to early LeBlonds, then LeBlonds with Colchester tail stocks etc.

Plenty of dodgy trainer assessors in Qld too that make a mockery of the system that was devised to stop the shonky qualifications being handed out. Earth works are the worst IMO, saw it with my own eyes on one contract…

Don’t know what the solution is but IMO RCC could cut down the ticket clipping but seldom used.

Basically you send a copy of a certification from “Jims testicle surgery” along with your money and you have a high risk license.
It adds nearly nothing to telling an employer if a person can operate a machine properly.

A List Of 33 Things We Know About The Coming Food Shortages
#1 The hard red winter wheat crop in the United States this year “was the smallest since 1963”. But in 1963, there were only 182 million people living in this nation. Today, our population has grown to 329 million.
#2 It is being projected that the rice harvest in California will be “half what it would be in a normal year”.
#3 The U.S. tomato harvest will come in at just 10.5 million tons in 2022. That is over a million tons lower than a normal year.
#4 This will be the worst U.S. corn harvest in at least a decade.
#5 Year-to-date shipments of carrots in the United States are down 45 percent.
#6 Year-to-date shipments of sweet corn in the United States are down 20 percent.
#7 Year-to-date shipments of sweet potatoes in the United States are down 13 percent.
#8 Year-to-date shipments of celery in the United States are down 11 percent.
#9 Total peach production in the U.S. is down 15 percent from last year.
#10 Almost three-fourths of all U.S. farmers say that this year’s drought is hurting their harvests.
#11 Thanks to the endless drought, the total number of cattle in Oregon is down 41 percent.
#12 Thanks to the endless drought, the total number of cattle in New Mexico is down 43 percent.
#13 Thanks to the endless drought, the total number of cattle in Texas is down 50 percent.

#14 One beef producer in Oklahoma is now predicting that ground beef “could eventually top $50 per pound”.
#15 At least 40 percent of the United States has been suffering from drought conditions for 101 consecutive weeks.
#16 Overall, this is the worst multi-year megadrought in the United States in 1,200 years.
#17 Europe is currently experiencing the worst drought that it has seen in 500 years. In some parts of central Europe, river levels have fallen so low that “hunger stones” are being revealed for the first time in centuries.
#18 Corn production for the entire EU could be down by as much as one-fifth in 2022.
#19 We are being warned that there will be crop losses in France of up to 35 percent.
#20 It is being projected that crop losses in some areas of the UK could be as high as 50 percent.

#23 Agricultural production in Somalia will be down about 80 percent this year.
#24 In eastern Africa, the endless drought has already resulted in the deaths of at least seven million animals.
#25 In China, they are facing the worst drought that they have ever experienced in recorded history.
#26 India normally accounts for 40 percent of the global rice trade, but we are being warned that production in that country will be way down in 2022 due to “considerable rainfall deficits in key rice producing states”.
#27 A third of the entire nation of Pakistan was under water after recent floods absolutely devastated that nation, and agricultural areas were hit particularly hard. As a result, the vast majority of the crops in the country have been “washed away”…
#28 The prices of some fertilizers have tripled since 2021, while the prices of some other fertilizers have actually quadrupled.
#29 One payment company is reporting that the number of Americans using their app to take out short-term loans for groceries has risen by 95 percent.
#30 Demand at U.S. food banks is now even worse than it was during the height of the COVID pandemic.
#31 The World Health Organization is telling us that millions of people in Africa are now potentially facing a very real possibility of starving to death.
#32 According to the World Food Program, 828 million people around the world go to bed hungry each night. Needless to say, that number will soon be much higher.
#33 UN Secretary General António Guterres has publicly stated that he believes that it is likely that there will be “multiple famines” in 2023.

If they were migrants they’d have visas and sponsors according to US law.

And none of this would be happening if Biden policed the borders properly.

Doug Casey On Class Warfare, ‘Eat The Rich’ Sentiment, & What Happens Next

What’s going on is the institutionalization of envy, a terrible vice. It’s different from jealousy.

Jealousy says, “You have something that I want. I want one too. Give it to me.”

Envy says, “You have something that I want. If I can’t have it, I’ll destroy it, so you can’t have it either.” Envy is the moral flaw that underlies all socialist economic theories. Socialist feelings and morality underly the economic lies, race hatred, class hatred, sex antagonism, and political polarization tearing the US and the West apart. Envy and socialism have become secular religions. The country has been divided into two different and mutually antagonistic worldviews.

The Left is proposing all manner of outrageous, destructive, and genuinely stupid ideas.

Free stuff for everybody. Not just food, shelter, schooling, and medical care provided at the expense of producers—which they’ve basically achieved. But now a guaranteed annual income. Everybody is supposed to get a thousand dollars a month, according to the silly twit and wannabe US president Andrew Yang. They won’t have to do anything, just exist, presumably hanging out at Starbucks playing with their iPhones all day.

International Man: What do you make of the hiring of 87,000 new IRS agents in the context of this trend?

Doug Casey: Those people aren’t being recruited just to collect taxes, although that’s absolutely one of the things that they will do. They will amount to a national police force, one that has a different mandate than the FBI, the ATF, the DEA, or other Praetorian agencies. The tax authorities have a right to look at any economic activity everywhere and anywhere.

As a moral issue, they’ll try to turn nonpayment of tax on the part of producers into a crime against society. I shudder to think of the type of amoral creatures being recruited—at fat salaries and with immense powers—to investigate the lives of their countrymen. They’ll be exactly analogous to Germany’s Gestapo or Stasi.

These new IRS agents are a direct attack on the middle class. The elite hate the middle class and what they stand for—independence, stability, and traditional values. The fact that they’re doubling the size of the tax police is truly extraordinary. As the economy continues to decline, you can expect class warfare—along with race and sex warfare—to increase.

Doug Casey: The speech Biden gave on September 1 was intended to be shocking and disturbing. It mimicked a scene out of V for Vendetta or 1984. They went out of their way to have Biden deliver it in Philadelphia, where the US was founded, and use red lighting against a dark background to fan emotions. These people are serious. Biden’s words were full of hate and venom, calling out half the country as the enemy—the speech was unprecedented. It was a warning and an overt threat.

Look at the scene. The red background was over the top. Placing a couple of Marines in the background said, “I have power, and I’ll use it against the enemy.” Theatrics such as these are unprecedented. It amounted to a declaration of civil war. It was followed up by the outrageous raid on Trump’s home and the FBI perp-walking about 50 of his prominent supporters, with dawn raids, in subsequent days.

These people truly want to overturn society. They’re actually a reincarnation of the Jacobins and could turn out to be just as violent and dangerous.

They’re working to create an active environment of class warfare in the US. They’ve succeeded in fomenting race hatred,

There’s not much you can do when actual forces of evil are in control. There’s very little that you can do except get out of Dodge.

Here in the US, we still have a large middle class. Many are fat, dumb, indoctrinated, or addicted to Prozac and Zoloft. But millions of others are, to coin a phrase, mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore. The things we’ve been talking about could turn into a genuine civil war.

Fresh battle in Brittany Higgins trial as defence seeks access to timeline

theaustralian.com.au04:12
Bruce Lehrmann trial set for October 4

Courtney Gould

2 hours ago September 16, 2022

A crucial timeline provided to police by former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins is at the centre of a fresh fight in the Canberra courts.

Bruce Lehrmann’s lawyers are seeking the document that outlines Ms Higgins’ version of events from 2019.

Mr Lehrmann has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting Ms Higgins inside Parliament House in 2019.

Andrew Berger said that when the defence made the request for the document, the Director of Public Prosecutions denied it, claiming legal professional privilege.

He said he wanted to “avoid issuing a subpoena” to Federal Police but on Friday filed the document with the court.

Justice Lucy McCallum also ordered defence and a barrister appointed by the DPP to discuss what material from a 56,000 page Cellebrite report into data from Ms Higgins’ phone could be considered disclosable.

She told the court she had concerns the defence could be “chasing” cross-examination “rabbits”, and if that was the case, it would be a “very long trial”

“My primary function is to ensure Mr Lehrmann and the Crown have a fair trial. But secondarily, I’m not going to let cross-examination go uphill and down dale for weeks and weeks,” Ms McCallum said.

Steven Whybrow – appearing for Mr Lehrmann – said that was not his intention “to be here forever”.

The matter will return to court next week for a pre-trial mention.

Quite. The head contractor however falls with his arse in butter, if you screw up he has the paper to show he isn’t liable.

Why the hell is it all made so difficult?

Johanna, I don’t know. I have had laptops and printers for decades without any trouble until I bought the newest laptop and printer. I got the store’s technician to connect the two and test and he showed me that they worked together. I got them home and no go. Back to the store where the technician did some more things and said this time for sure. Got home again but the Bluetooth just wouldn’t work at which point I gave up. At least cable connection between the laptop and printer works.

When I had my second knee replacement it was discovered that leg was 12mm shorter than the other and was going to cause hip and back problems. Bright spark Professor of leg lengthening made the adjustment, causing a well honed sense of dynamic movement to be severely compromised, with hip and back problems occurring now because I stand funny. Now my wife said something about another 3 inches, mumble.

If the illegals will be settled elsewhere in Massachusetts then obviously they can take more. All border states should send them all of their incoming.

People with signs such as “No one is illegal” should be made to take at least some illegal entrants.
