Reckoning day could be arriving at top US universities sooner than later.
Billionaire CEO demands UPenn leaders quit and donations halt over alleged failure to address antisemitism on campus
Wall Street CEO Marc Rowan is calling for the leaders of the University of Pennsylvania to resign and donors to close their checkbooks over an alleged failure to condemn antisemitism and hate.
Rowan, the CEO of private equity giant Apollo Global Management, wrote in an op-ed posted online Wednesday that UPenn failed to condemn an event held on campus last month that the university acknowledged included speakers with a history of making antisemitic remarks.
“Why is UPenn repeating tragic mistakes of the past? Words of hate and violence must be met with clear, reasoned condemnation, rooted in morality from those in positions of authority,” Rowan wrote.
Rowan, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes to be nearly $6 billion, is one of the university’s wealthiest donors and supporters. He chairs the board of advisors at the university’s famed Wharton School and is the latest business leader to slam an Ivy League school over its handling of antisemitism in the wake of Hamas deadly attack on Israel.

Oct 13, 2023 9:23 PMNot that I’ve seen. The relationship between Russia and Israel used to be relatively strong but has fallen away in the past 18 months notwithstanding that a stated part of the reason for the conflict in Ukraine was to rid it of Nazis. Ergo, if the destruction of Nazi ideology is a partial motivator (even a small one), then the next obvious step is to deplore any actions that are anti-Jewish. But, Israel has supported Ukraine so the relationship has cooled.
Putin did say that the Hamas attack showed US policy in the ME wasn’t working but that is an entirely different issue.
Very poor form IMO. Events of the past few days deserve global condemnation but geo-politics always comes into play. Same can be said of China’s response.

Just in from the Oz…
The Indigenous voice to parliament is set to fail , and may even fall short of securing a majority in any state, despite a late swing toward a Yes vote in the final days of the campaign as both sides launch their final offensives ahead of the nation’s historic referendum. As campaign officials from the Yes and No camps warn that a potential low voter turnout could produce a closer result, an exclusive Newspoll conducted for The Weekend Australian shows a three-point swing toward a Yes vote over the past week to 37 per cent. This is the highest level of support for an alteration to the Constitution recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders through an enshrined voice to parliament since the start of the official campaign in early September.
The lift in support is significant and will offer some optimism for the Yes23 campaign, but the improvement in the polls would not be near enough to overcome the current level of opposition.
With 57 per cent of surveyed voters saying they intended to vote No as of Friday, a point down on the previous poll published on Monday, the referendum would be lost if the poll results were reflected at the ballot box on Saturday. Only 6 per cent of voters said they remained undecided. If this number broke proportionally for both sides of the debate on the day, which cannot be predicted, the final result would be 60-40 against the voice.
The strongest level of support for the voice, according to the poll, remains in Victoria, the only state that could produce a majority Yes vote, followed by NSW and Tasmania.
However, the Newspoll found there was not a single state where the Yes vote was ahead of the No vote. This would mean that the referendum would fail the dual test of securing a national majority and a majority of the six states.”

8 CommentsOpposition Indigenous Australians spokeswoman Jacinta Price – the face of the No campaign against the Indigenous voice to parliament – has hit out at leading Yes campaigner Noel Pearson, labelling him a “misogynist” after he suggested she was being manipulated by conservative think tanks.
In a private speech delivered on Monday evening, Mr Pearson – a co-architect of the voice proposal – took aim at Senator Price and fellow No campaigner Warren Mundine for their roles opposing the voice.
Addressing a crowd of more than 100 partners and clients at Gilbert + Tobin law firm, the Cape York leader argued Senator Price and Mr Mundine did not “have their own mind” and were influenced by conservative think tanks, including the Institute of Public Affairs and the Centre for Independent Studies.
Read NextSenator Price was previously the head of the CIS’s Indigenous affairs program, where she looked at education and welfare reform as well as Aboriginal customary law.
Mr Mundine is the director of the CIS Indigenous Forum.
Senator Price rejected the arguments from Mr Pearson and hit back, telling The Weekend Australian: “I think Pearson is a misogynist who’s been allowed to get away with his bullying and his misogyny.”
She said the referendum campaign had shown that “powerful Aboriginal men are untouchable” and were “not held to the same standards as what the left would hold – what they regard as the patriarchy, the white colonial patriarchy to that standard”.
“They don’t hold men like Noel Pearson to that standard. And so Pearson gets away with such disrespectful behaviour.”
Senator Price said Aboriginal women had “never had our feminist movement”.
“We are up against powerful men who are never held to account. And basically when the left-wing media ignore this misogyny, Aboriginal women are effectively being told … you’re not important.
“There is no, you know, equivalent to an Aboriginal Grace Tame.”

The Western media is putrid; even Sky news is riddled with poignant images of the poor pallis suffering under the relentless, heartless barrage of Israeli missiles. Palli women screaming, palli kids in hospital ad nauseum. if there ever was a class of people whose eradication would improve society it is the media.

I understood the Israeli position on the Ukraine war was neutral and carefully so.Yes, they have been walking on egg-shells and have been in an invidious position.
It is effectively ‘compelled’ to side with the West (lest it irritate the USA and others) and show nominal support for Ukraine’s Jewish President. However, they don’t want to irritate Russia because of Syria. Plus, Ukraine and Russia both have significant Jewish communities.
Israel has been a conduit for some US weapons to Ukraine, which the Russians didn’t take kindly to, and also has been under pressure to supply its own weapons.
On balance, Israel has done a reasonable job of being notionally neutral and Russia has also tried to accept their position but Israel has been critical of Russia and is sending non-lethal aid to Ukraine. Ukraine has been stirring the pot by trying to get the Iron Dome system, which Israel doesn’t want to give, and most recently Zelensky wants to visit Israel as a gesture of solidarity over this terror event (pure BS – that isn’t why he wants to go). To say the obvious, these aspects need to be carefully managed.

For those manning the booths.
I wouldn’t get too disheartened.
Firstly, this isn’t a Reps election with ten unknown candidates, or a bedsheet sized Senate paper that the punters will be looking for a formline on.
A lack of engagement with HTV people probably means their minds are made up.
As for Yessirs badgering them?
Fill your boots.
That will only turn any waverers off. -
The Screeech is going down like the Hindenburg, Cats.
If it does not you, are free to loudly denounce me, on this august blogue, in the most colourful terms, forevah.
If there has ever been a more obvious example of the contempt politicians have for voters, then this might just be it.
There needs to be a public accountability reckoning afterwards.
Various grifters will screech in an outer space audible sense. It has to be done, or we keep vanishing down their plughole.

Today’s Aboriginal “leadership” have not made friends among the people who will matter on Sunday if “No” wins,. There’s going to be a reckoning .
The passive aggressive Noel Person has also now thrown the PM under the bus . Is he hoping that Shorten will save him because his fellow Aboriginals won’t?

“There are severely ill people whose injuries mean their only chances of survival is being on life support, such as mechanical ventilators,” WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said.
“So moving those people is a death sentence. Asking health workers to do so is beyond cruel.”
I spent decades moving critically ill patients by helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, sometimes over thousands of km. Moving them 10 or 20km by road would be a doddle, and if its not ….. use triage, this is war after all.
I used to get asked by my registrars what to do with the patient if they ditched in the ocean. My answer – stand on them as you get out.

and no amount of obsequiousness on our part, humility, love, seems to ever melt their hearts,
We don’t want you to be obsequious, you ghastly creep. Nor full of humility. Stand up for what you believe in and tell the truth. That’s enough for us to listen to you.
As it is, most of us have come to the conclusion that you’re a dishonest grifter. You’ve lived parasitically off the misery and ignorance of others and done little for them.

Israeli Airstrike Destroys Planned Parenthood Abortion Center
As Israel seeks to defend itself from the Hamas terrorist attack launched against it over the weekend, the Middle Eastern nation has launched its own counterattack on Hamas radicals in Gaza.
As a result of one of the airstrikes, the world’s biggest abortion business lost one of its centers, located in the Gaza strip section controlled by Palestinians.
“On 8 October, PFPPA’s only center in Gaza was destroyed following an Israeli airstrike to an adjacent building,” the abortion giant said.
The Planned Parenthood abortion business has sent out an emergency alert to its supporters asking for donations and complaining that women who can’t get abortions would be “forced to give birth.”

What cruise line are you on Lizzie, and what ports are you visiting?
An Oceania Cruise on the ship named Marina, Top Ender. Going down the Adriatic, the West Greek coast, stops somewhere, then around to Santorini then over to Sicily and Rome.
Stops in the Adriatic are Split, Montenegro (today), then Corfu.
Oceania is noted for its food and I can’t fault that. We have a fare that includes three of the specialised restaurants for the Adriatic section, and the standard is high as it is also in the main dining room. Service is also very good.
Dress code has no formal nights, unlike Cunard. It is something called Country Club, either casual or elegant, depending on event. It is geared to the Americans on board I think, for mostly that is where the guests come from. Some Australians, occasional Britishers and Japanese. No ‘athletic shoes’ in the dining room at night, so that must exclude my good pair of white sneakers, not my walking ones. I will have to wear the two other pairs of shoes I have more than I want to do. So in Split I bought a basic pair of sandals.
I am doing my best to make my wardrobe comply. Cocktail Party last nite was a bit of a challenge, but I managed with something drifty and added jewellery. Elegant Casual, I hope. Wedge heels.
Cassie, glad to see you eyeing off shoes when shopping, always up-cheering. 🙂

Internet is very flakey on board during peak times, and we are on tours otherwise.
Yesterday was horrific, because I wasn’t expecting to hit any great mountain heights again, but there we were, on a bus being taken up to the very top of the towering mount that is one of a range below which Montenegro sits. It was around 5500 ft up from the sea level, and every bit of it was traversed in a huge modern bus over a goat track built centuries ago and then tarmaced over. It was to be regarded as an ‘adventure’ we were told, all twenty-five hairpin bends of it. The guide thoughtfully counted them up for us. The bridges were medieval and I thought the whole lot likely to collapse at any time. The perpendicular ravines all of the way down were just under my window, as was the occasional small car coming down, with literally two inches to spare on each side if they pulled in their driving mirrors, and that only on ‘passing’ places. It was a great relief when we were told that we would be joining a ‘regular’ road for our return, as this one couldn’t take a bus down it. It coudn’t take a bus up it either in my view, and that of other wobble-knee’d ladies who share feelings at the top with me when we got out. The view – well, stupendous. When I got my breath back.
We moved over to the ‘new’ road then which was a normal road, which descended slowly in an area of plateaus and passes where we visited an original city of the Black Mount (Montenegro), named after either the shadows there or the Phoenecian adventurers of the BC period (take your pick). Now a small small town in the hill folds, once the Provincial capital, it was a pretty small centre with a monastery that was destroyed by the Ottermans but later ruled by C19th King Nicola and his wife and their children. We were taken in to their home-like palace, full of memorabilia, as it is now a museum. These Royal people constituted part of the quickly defunct but nevertheless ancient monarchical Houses of Europe who fell after World Wars 1 or 2, all of whom had some ancestry back to Queen Vic of Britain. Their Kings are still memorialised in a history forgotten except in these minor remnants of their glory. Who has ever heard of King Daniel, and others even more obscure, outside Montenegro? As in Spit, they had fought off the Ottomans well though and are revered for that.

Awesome post! It’s truly commendable to hear about the IDF’s 150% report rate among their reservists. It just goes to show the exceptional dedication and commitment of these individuals, even after their service obligations are complete. It’s inspiring to see them willingly come back with whatever kit they still have to ensure the safety and security of their country. Thank you for sharing this incredible information! Keep up the great work! ???
