When I were a pup I thought that family, name of Smith, must have had something wrong with them that they were so frickin’ destitute and needy.

Today I have just seen an ad for The Smith Family declaring that one in six Australian kids grow up in poverty.

Of course in Australia poverty is a statistical artefact – we could be nation of millionaires and the lower tier of millionaires would be povvoes.

But the ads are brilliant. Little Dickensian urchins turning up at school in ill-fitting school uniforms, broken in spirit, snared at the school entrance like a rag on a twig in a flood.

Sod that.

One more indulgent pint of Guinness will deal with that guilt.

Yeah, it’s bullshit.
I gave out a metric tonne of exercise books and pens bought with my own money to povo kids over the years.
Some of them (most of them) you had to take the book and pen off them at the end of the lesson, keep it at your desk until the next lesson, otherwise it would simply disappear.
The problem isn’t that they don’t get stuff, the problem is they have zero interest in keeping it or using it for what it is meant for.
But I had to do that if I wanted a record of what I could get them to do in class.
This idea that there is some group of little urchins who will be ever so grateful that someone finally gave them some stationary!
It’s deluded horseshit.

I still remember in 4th or fifth class, being given an exercise book by a teacher. I know it sounds odd, but I was overwhelmed by her generosity. A whole 48 page exercise book for me!
“Thank you very much!” said the young Winston, and she looked at me funny. Perhaps I surprised her with my gratitude, or perhaps she wasn’t used to someone saying ‘thank you’.
Odd the things you remember.

Kids went to a well regarded Govt. Primary School in a “ Good” area.
Sought after as a cheaper alternative to a private college for many families until their kids could join a college at Middle School level.
Wife came to know many on the school staff – told a surprising number of parents never paid the modest school charges.
Often the ones with the new Euro SUV whose kids went to College later.
I don’t mind people doing well – but jeez guys, a bit of noblesse oblige at the very least.

Job of ABC clarified:

Brash: Isn’t it a bit dumbfounding that a first-term prime minister is claiming underdog status? And … do you recognise that you’re a bit on the nose with the electorate?”

Albanese: You’re verballing me there.

Brash: Well, that’s my job.

Albanese: No, it’s not actually, it’s not the job of the ABC. There’s enough other media outlets trying to engage in that. I’m confident that we will form a majority government after the next election.

Although I checked the ABC’s job description and it still says ‘ask only softball questions to an ALP PM’, so Albo is right!

Just in case no-one scrolls back..

Three billion Dollars of NGO funding ended on February 2nd, 2025. The survivors of the Nerdlear fire called the war Dogement Day. They lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the Auditors. The computer which controlled the machines, Elonnet, sent two Auditors back through accounts. Their mission: to destroy the leader of the deep state resistance, Deep State, my son. The first Auditor was programmed to strike at me in the year 1981, before Deep State was born. It failed. The second was set to strike at the Deep State Itself when it lost an election. As before, the resistance was able to send a Hawaiian Judge, a protector for Deep State. It was just a question of which one of them would Audit him first.

From Indolent’s link at 2:13.

Just a few days ago, the FAA’s primary aircraft safety notification system failed for several hours,” Elon Musk said referring to NOTAM’s failure over the weekend.

Hillary Clinton responded to Secretary Duffy and attacked the young Gen Z whiz kids working on Elon Musk’s DOGE team.

“They have no relevant experience,” Hillary Clinton said taking a shot at the young geniuses. “Most of them aren’t old enough to rent a car.”

“And you’re going to let them mess with airline safety that’s already deteriorated on your watch?” Clinton added.

FMD.
Systems don’t “deteriorate” in 2 weeks (unless of course, there was deliberate nobbling, which is something else altogether).
NOTAM is an acronym meaning “Notice to Airmen“, a term which I am surprised has survived the era of DEI.
These are temporary addenda to fixed aviation rules, regulations and designations.
Example. A NOTAM might be issued to temporarily restrict airspace for, say, a military exercise, or a Presidential visit, or a runway closure for maintenance, which is otherwise shown as accessible on permanent charts.
The point is, you don’t need to know a lot about aviation to work on the NOTAM system (the recording and distribution, not the drafting of content). It is basically a documentation system which needs to be robust, redundant and tightly controlled.

Powerless Democrats Frustrated After Being Inundated with Resistance Phone Calls Imploring Them to Stop Trump (6 Feb)

Congressional Democrats have reportedly been rendered powerless and frustrated amid a deluge of angry calls from their constituents demanding that they resist President Trump at every turn.

Lawmakers told Axios that angry constituents have been ringing their phones off the hook with demands that they more adequately resist Trump, a situation over which they maintain little control. Democrats feel that constituents have been setting their expectations too high and should understand they now hold the minority position in Congress.

Rage as much as you want lefties. The problem is of course that direct action is contraindicated, since righties have all the firearms and the military (except for shiny bums).

Only in the Territory:

A drunk man who hitched a ride on a moving bus was unable to keep a firm grip because he was holding a bottle of rum in one hand, the coroner has found.

In light of a horror 2024 on Territory roadswhere 60 people lost their lives, NT Coroner Elisabeth Armitage said she would publish “anonymised findings” concerning all the road deaths.

She made the comment in the first of the released findings, published on Wednesday, which examined why a 37-year-old man was found dead on the side of the Stuart Hwy on March 19, 2024.

She determined the man’s cause of death to be from blunt force trauma when falling from the trailer of a Greyhound bus while under the influence of alcohol.

“He was run over by the wheels of the trailer and came to rest, concealed by long grass, in a spoon drain,” she said in her findings.

On the night of his death, Ms Armitage said the man – who was not on the banned drinkers register – was out drinking with friends, travelling between Devils Marbles hotel, Tennant Creek, and their home community.

After drinking for a number of hours, when travelling back to their home community, the blue Ford Falcon they were driving became bogged on the side of the Stuart Hwy, Ms Armitage said.

The passengers flagged down a passing Greyhound bus at 2.55am, who stopped and agreed to take two “of the more sober and less aggressive” passengers to the nearest roadhouse to get help, Ms Armitage said.

Ms Armitage said it was at this time the 37-year-old tried to stowaway on the trailer by sitting on the drawbar, however, two of his friends pulled him off.

“However, as the coach pulled away, he climbed back on. He cannot have had a firm grip because in one hand he was holding a bottle of rum. Unsurprisingly, but tragically for his family and community, he fell from the drawbar after travelling on it for 10 minutes and 45 seconds,” her findings said.

“No fault is attributed to the driver or co-driver as neither knew that the deceased had hitched a ride, he ultimately climbed onto the drawbar just as the coach was ready to depart, and the drawbar was hidden from their view.”

The bus driver did not a “live view” of CCTV footage on the rear of the bus, Ms Armitage said.

Before becoming bogged, Ms Armitage said two bottles of rum were consumed on the drive down by the group, during which the deceased was sitting “unrestrained” on the centre console.

Toxicological analysis found the man had a blood-alcohol level of 0.23 per cent.

He was found about 25km north of Devils Marbles.

Family members who had not seen him for days found him when they were conducting their own search for him, Ms Armitage said in her findings.

“It is hoped that by making findings about the circumstances of these deaths public, this will improve individual and agency awareness as to the causes of road fatalities, with the ultimate objective of saving lives and reducing the road death toll in the future,” Ms Armitage said.

So, why are the advertisements you see so annoying?
Why does every ad have a stupidly over representation of the various “minority” groups?

Heres why, they’re hoping for an award, European advertising awards website:

Sustainability Question

As part of your entry you have the opportunity to share information around the sustainability impact of this piece of work. In this question we’re looking to understand how the environmental impacts of this piece of work were considered and any mitigating actions taken to reduce negative impact. This is particularly relevant if the contents of this piece of work has an environmental message within.

Question (revised for 2025):

Please outline how this piece of work has aligned with the brand’s sustainability strategy. This could involve either operational measures to reduce the impact on the environment, and consumer strategies to encourage positive behavior change, or both.

Please provide details of the benchmarks used for measuring the success of this piece of work’s contribution to the overall strategy. This could include, but is not limited to, targets around advertising business operations, advertising production, media planning and buying.

Elements to consider when crafting your response:

Operational measures, how the work reduced its environmental impact in terms of operations (e.g. carbon reduction targets, renewable energy considerations, minimising waste or implementing environmentally friendly practices.

Behavioural outcomes: How the work encouraged or influenced positive behavior change among stakeholders, such as consumers, employees, or the broader community (e.g. promoting sustainable products, encouraging recycling, or raising awareness about climate action)

What’s been the impact? Change in consumer behaviour (e.g. attitudes, frequency, penetration), potential changes in government regulations or societal/economic events (e.g. changes in economic, political, social factors).

How does this project fit into the broader sustainability goals of the brand? Is it part of a wider strategy to minimise carbon emissions or waste, promote biodiversity, achieve net-zero?

Specific benchmarks for key areas like: Advertising Business Operations: Reducing emissions in day-to-day activities (e.g. measuring emissions, energy-efficient offices, environmentally-friendly travel policies, circularity), Advertising Production: Cutting down emissions or waste in creating content (e.g. virtual production, local sourcing, or offsetting carbon), Media Planning and Buying: Choosing environmentally responsible media platforms or measuring emissions using industry approved methodology or reducing digital waste.

Equity, Representation and Accessibility Question

As part of your entry you have the opportunity to share information around the composition of the team behind this piece of work. In this question we’re looking to understand the impact of having a diverse range of perspectives and lived experiences on creating work that is culturally relevant and commercially successful.

Question:

Based on the brief, what consideration was given to representation and diversity of the team(s) involved? What consideration was given to accessibility in the work and what role did DEI thinking play throughout the development of the work

REP. BOEBERT: FAUCI WAS PERSONALLY INVOLVED IN CRUEL ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS Rep. Boebert exposed shocking testimony that Fauci wasn’t just a bureaucrat—he was personally involved in animal experimentation. A witness testified that virtually no cures came from these cruel experiments, raising serious ethical and scientific concerns about their purpose. Meanwhile, three beagles rescued from Fauci-funded experiments are now in loving homes and served as star witnesses in the Oversight Committee hearing.

Witnesses? LOL how did that go?

Labor is putting any new administration into a position where they will have disembowel the bureaucracy and its edicts.
If the edicts aren’t removed, there will be no job creation for the newly unemployed government drones.
So it looks like the two – reducing the bureaucracy and reducing the bureaucratic load – go hand in hand.

Matildas star Sam Kerr told a court she was treated differently by police “because of the colour of my skin” after “fearing for my life” following an incident with a taxi driver.

She must be very dense going with that sort of defence.

The lawyers she’s engaged have smelt the money and are stringing it out as long as they can.

A better defence would have been to plead guilty, apologise to all concerned, and throw herself on the mercy of the court.

Would have got a 500 pound fine and told to go.

Now she’ll be lucky to be employed by anything outside of a leftie government post.

Five-year-old boy allegedly raped in remote NT communityLiam Mendes
44 minutes ago

A five-year-old boy has allegedly been raped in a remote Northern Territory community this week, triggering calls for greater public disclosure of child sexual abuse in the jurisdiction, as one advocate claims half of the 20 remote communities she visited in 2024 had children as young as five exhibiting “harmful sexual behaviour”.
Multiple sources confirmed to The Australian that a 19-year-old male was arrested and charged following the alleged rape, which occurred at a small community in the northern part of the Territory, near the Gulf of Carpentaria, on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old will face Darwin Local Court on Monday charged with sexual intercourse of a child under 10, following his arrest on Wednesday.
The case led child safety advocates to call for more information to be made public about serious sexual assaults on children to increase awareness of widespread child abuse in the Territory.
The charging of the 19-year-old came within hours of the Prime Minister’s fly-in, fly-out visit to Alice Springs to announce $843m in funding for the Territory.
The funding is set to be delivered over six years to strengthen the delivery of services in remote communities, including policing, women’s safety, alcohol harm reduction and “mediation and peacekeeping activities”.
Anthony Albanese’s visit on Thursday came just over a week after Peter Dutton visited the region, which has been blighted by crime, domestic violence and anti-social behaviour.
Child abuse prevention educator Holly-ann Martin, who has visited 87 remote communities during her 35-year career to provide her abuse preventation education program, said there was an “epidemic” of child sexual abuse and further awareness needed to be drawn to the “nationwide issue”.

“I would have been in at least 20 remote communities last year and at least half of them were because of children exhibiting harmful sexual behaviours,” she said on Friday.
Ms Martin, who was awarded an Order of Australia for her work with children, said these cases had already been reported to authorities, but she was seeing children as young as five who had been exposed to pornographic material and were then going on to act out what they were seeing in pornography on other children.
She said that politicians and senior police were too afraid to speak out about the issues happening across the Territory.
“They (politicians and senior police) just are covering it up,” Ms Martin said.
“We need to shine a light on it so we can protect children.
“If we keep saying ‘nothing to see here’, then children aren’t being protected.
“The government have just announced today all this money for the Northern Territory. There’s money for women, (but) where is the money for abuse prevention for children?”
In October 2023, Mr Albanese refused calls by the Coalition for a royal commission into child sex abuse in Indigenous communities, claiming the opposition was politicising the matter.
Earlier that year, Mr Albanese was forced to reject claims by Mr Dutton that he had failed to act on information that abused children were allegedly being returned to live with their abusers.
“Peter Dutton makes all sorts of claims, and the tragedy here is that serious issues, like the abuse of children, that Peter Dutton or myself or I would hope any member of parliament has a uniform abhorrence of, shouldn’t be used as a political issue,“ Mr Albanese said in April that year.

One might argue that our elites regard these people not as human, but as animals to be herded into fenced paddocks and exploited.

If the powers-that-be perceived remote indigenous Australians as having the same ‘value’ as non-indig Australians, they would act to protect them and advance their well-being. They don’t (value them equally, that is), so they don’t act accordingly.

It’s pure projection: THEY, the ones with all the authority and resources, ACCUSE OTHERS of lesser means, of racism: the belief that one’s racial characteristics make one superior or inferior to another, to divert attention from their measurably expressed belief in the same status stereotype.

Cohenite, 99.9% of the energy debate is propaganda and the news media, having abandoned its commitment to telling the truth, is on the side of the bullshit artists. So 99% of what is trotted out in the Australian media about energy is disinformation.

The news media has become a radical political party — which is why no-one believes it and it is useless as a source of information.

Some Hollywood actresses act as though their trans child is a fashion accessory.

As Matt Walsh says, transgenderism is a “social contagion.”

I feel sorry for Elon Musk, as he said, “I’ve lost a son to transgenderism.”

I may not be representative (we’ll leave that up to others) but two of my friends have trans kids, one M to F, one F to M. Only one of the parents is an academic if that helps.

Cali 6/2 @8:06 – British Nurse

thanks Cali.
thanks Farmer Gez.
i can’t help but think the babies are Caucasian and it’s a deliberate act.
Deaths in hospitals attract attention and if one nurse was the common demoninator for 7 deaths there is something wrong here.
looking forward to comments.
I may be over sensitive about such matters in todays environment.

Depends. My SiL has probably lost more than that. But she is a specialist nurse on premmie babies. Some of which are very premmie and have a laundry list of problems.

Talk upthread of countries bailing on WHO and selected UN scamocracies.
It isn’t just who is leaving, it is how much money they are taking with them.
The US pays 22% of WHO subscriptions.
They’re going to have to engage Elon and his Stihl chainsaw when the US goes.

I think the libs might have a chance in Werribee. It used to be a solidly working class liars seat but there has been a lot of demographic change towards “aspirationals” and home owning families with mortgages. If the libs don’t win they will certainly put a dent in the liars majority. Prahran was a slime seat that became vacant when the incumbent got caught horizontally folk dancing with one of his staffers. The liars aren’t contesting it so it’s between the slime and the SFLs. There are very many minors and “independents” harvesting preferences for the slime however one of them is the former liars member who is popular in the area and is campaigning on an anti-slime ticket.. It’s the sort of area that’s peopled by Gen Z purple haired, pierced, tattooed and ponytail wearing latte drinkers so the slimes will probably claw it back. Someone I know who was handing out SFL HTV cards at a pre-poll booth says the slimers are very aggressive, surrounding voters, yelling at them and trying to stop them taking any other HTV cards. They have had to be thrown out by booth staff for trespassing into the actual voting area.

It will be an interesting night!

Thank you. I have a cousin who lives in the electorate of Prahran. She’s a leftist who had formerly voted Green but as she’s Jewish she won’t be voting Green slime tomorrow.

ALPBC showed some of the entries of the Bald Archy awards. Supposedly one of the rules is that the works should be funny not vindictive.
One of the entries was a portrait of Peter Dutton’s head surtitled with the words HEART OF DARKNESS.
That doesn’t look very funny to me. Strange how that one accidentally slipped through the filters of the judging panel, eh?

This one’s for historical Cats.

So, I’m having an after dinner single malt – or two – on the verandah, and reading Robert Rhodes James’ biography of Anthony Eden.

Regarding the Geneva Conference of 1954 – the one that divided Vietnam into two States – the one that the North Vietnamese tore up, before the ink was even dry – seems the British played a far greater role in said conference then they were ever given credit for.

Rhodes James makes the statement that “What was not know at the time, and not for many years later, was how Anthony Eden had prevented the eruption of a super – Power conflict in South east Asia that could well have involved atomic weapons.”

Any historical Cats ever heard of this one?

@WallStreetApes

Ready to have your mind blown?

Senator John Kennedy on Elon Musk and DOGE exposing USAID, “I’ll tell you what Mr. Musk discovered. I find it fascinating. He discovered:

– The American taxpayers are giving money to Afghanistan
– He found that we are giving money to Yemen
– He found that we are giving money to Syria
– He found that the USAID has 10,000 people employees, and every year they give away $40 billion
– He found that the USAID gave money to support electric vehicles in Vietnam. Our money, taxpayer money
– He found that the USAID gave money to a transgender clinic in India. “I didn’t know that. I bet you the American people didn’t know that”
– He found that USAID gave $1.5 million to a Serbian LGBTQ group, they got $1.5 million to QUOTE, “advanced diversity, equity, inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities”
– They found that USAID spent $164 million to support radical organizations around the world
– They gave $122 million of that to groups aligned with foreign terrorist organizations
– According to this report in Mr. Musk, the USAID has given millions of dollars to quote organizations in Gaza controlled by Hamas
– He found that we gave $2 million, USAID did, for sex changes in Guatemala
– He found that we gave $20 million to produce a new Sesame Street show in Iraq
– He found that we gave $4.5 million of taxpayer money to combat misinformation in Kazakhstan
– He found that we gave $10 million, USAID did, of meals to an al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group called the Nusra Front
– Mr. Musk found that we gave $7.9 million of taxpayer money to a project that would teach Sri Lankan journalists to avoid binary gendered language. (The USAID took 8 million bucks and gave it to a bunch of journalists in Sri Lanka to teach them how to avoid binary gendered language)
– USAID gave $1.5 million to promote LGBT advocacy in Jamaica
– They gave $1.5 million to rebuild the Cuban media ecosystem
– They gave $1.5 million for quote, art for inclusion of people with disabilities in Belarus
– Another $3.9 million for LGBT causes in Macedonia
– $8.3 million for equity and inclusion education in Nepal

“I could go all night and many of my colleagues are upset. They’re really mad at Mr. Musk. Hell, I think we ought to give him a medal”
