I have another confession to make, and it’s not even Yom Kippur!

The other day, walking into Town Hall station, I spied a fish and ship shop and I found myself walking in the direction of this shop. Standing in front of the shop, I eyed potato scallops, something I hadn’t eaten in….say…..over a decade, and I then greedily ordered four! I took one bite and then guzzled the other four scallops before I’d even talked into Town Hall Woollies

Fcking delicious!

I ask…who doesn’t like, who cannot like…..potato scallops?

They’re not a cake. A cake is made by rising and cooking flour + additives.
A potato scallop is made from a scalloped potato slice + batter.

we’ve have a whole rating system for potato cakes going for nearly 20 years

local Chinese run fish and chips called Sharkeys hits an 8.5

try them with too much salt and French raspberry vinegar

nah

what you do is get on-line and find a good French provender who can supply raspberry vinegar, tarragon vinegar and green-peppercorn mustard

then you go to the local chippery with the A1 mix of thick-cut potato and crispy (not too crispy) batter on their potato cakes

order too many and dip them in the raspberry vinegar while saying frenchy things like … avec and Gâteau aux pommes

then you have a steak the next night with peppercorn mustard on the side and use the tarragon vinegar in the salad dressing

and drink pinot noir

and count your blessings

People need to understand there is a venture capitalist attitude in this administration.
It’s move fast and if people aren’t on board either change the people or pull the pin on the idea.
It is that simple.
There are unlimited places & opportunities for this administration to deploy their energy.
If you want to play hard to get or squeeze them for more money or dick them around, you’ll be dropped and they’ll move onto the next opportunity.

Zelensky just found that out.

I think The Poot will take the opportunity to just move everything to the Ukraine Front and do a dash for the Dnieper, take everything East of it – leaving just a holdout pocket of Kiev and a means for resupply for it to feed the civies.
He’ll call victory and dare anyone to move him. Ideal defensive terrain – a largish river, the east side bank full of mud and swamp grasses.
And the winter river freeze is over for the next 8 months.

Lindsay Graham has come out to the media several times and wiped the floor with his erstwhile bosom buddy Zelenskiy. He was the leading US Congress hawk having visited Ukraine 9 times and the biggest voice for arms and hundreds of Billion$$$ to Ukraine. A complete 180 degree flip.

That meeting with what looked a coked up Z has just destroyed Ukraine’s whole strategy to prosecute the war. Ukraine’s only other source for money and arms is the euroweenies, who are all falling over themselves on X showing their fervent support for Z. Big bad orange man gets the wagging fingers and scowls. But they wont pony up in blood and only meagre arms.

After the world kissing his arse for so long, Z looked absolutely gobsmacked as he was put in his place. Even called JDV a son of a bitch in bastardised Uke/Russo lingo. Trump was right. Z isn’t ready for a peace deal. He’s still hooked on the grift and whole notoriety thing.

On the public stage, they must be publicly predicted PRIOR to making a statement.

i.e. ‘I expect my opponents – who seem to thrive on other people’s misery – will label me a colonising, racist bigot for stating this, but …’

It’s called an Accusation Audit (TM & apologies to the Black Swan Group). The idea is to take ‘the wind out of their sails’ before they have an opportunity to do so to you. They may still call you names, but the effect of the same will have been lessened.

Essentially, it’s about taking the initiative, rather than submissively reacting to someone else’s tactics.

Trump’s gambit to get Europe to stop sponging off the US seems to be working.

Rachel Reeves sends billions in frozen Russian assets to Ukraine (1 Mar)

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced she will divert cash from environmental investments to help Ukraine instead.

Rachel Reeves has tonight announced more than £2Billion from frozen Russian assets will be sent to Ukraine to bolster its military.

The Chancellor is set to change the £27.8B National Wealth Fund so it can be spent on the defence sector, instead of its previous remit which limited it to green energy infrastructure projects.

Hitherto green energy has been an untouchable sacred cow in the UK especially with this Labour government. It’s not the first such change either – last week they diverted foreign aid to defence too.

I think it harks back to his first term when he spent a lot of effort trying to get Europe to increase defence spending, and they dragged their heels. Now with a war going on, and the US showing signs of pulling out, they can’t get away with it anymore.

The key is the bottom axis: the US is more or less paying $750 billion per year to defend Europe (and, for that matter, us). All they have to do is halve that and Trump has saved US taxpayers more than the $300 billion.

Apparently it was Zelensky who insisted on the Oval Office meeting and signing ceremony.

Top Zelensky adviser pushed for Oval Office mineral deal signing — against Trump envoy Kellogg’s advice (NY Post, 28 Feb, via Powerline)

Kellogg “advised against it, knowing that the relationship [between the presidents] needed to be strengthened” before meeting in-person, according to the official.

However, a source familiar with Yermak’s tactics said Zelensky’s office “continued to force the issue.”

Then Z stuffed it up. Worth reading for insight into the background negotiations, and the comments from various sources on both sides.

I know Trump is trying to get back something from a bad deal from the previous administration. But surely they would have been wise to Zelensky prior to broadcasting the meeting.

I agree with most of what VDH is saying but:

the second by the fact that Putin unlike his 2008 and 2014 invasions has now lost a million dead and wounded to a Ukraine that will remain thusly armed.

March 2025 is not March 2022, after the heroic saving of Kyiv—but three years and 1.5 million dead and wounded later. Zelenskyy is no longer the international heartthrob with the glamorous entourage.

Nobody knows what the casualty lists are, and until we find out, we don’t know the human cost of this stupid war.

Nats forum yesterday at Bendigo with Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, Bridget McKenzie and local hopeful Andrew Lethlean.
-It wasn’t a forum as advertised as all questions were pulled from the on-line registration process.
-Lethlean failed to background himself and sell a vision for Bendigo. A very safe Labor seat.
-Jacinta spoke well and off the cuff but The Voice and Alice Springs aren’t current or topical for this election or the electorate.
-Bridget was amusing at times and did attack the sitting member. Still provided no compelling case for the Nats in Bendigo.
-Much talk about school curriculum and law & order, both state responsibilities.
-Immigration numbers had a run but still not a biggie locally.
-Mentioned Albo’s money drop in Melb with zero for the bush but failed to link that to the Labor member.
-The ‘rah rah give yourself a clap’ stuff is trite and pointless. The crowd made me feel young and there’s not much rah rah left in them.
-Lethlean has put out a big number of posters and is very visible, it’s yet to be seen if he can tear the public servants of Bendigo away from the drip feed. I doubt it.
-To win Bendigo they have to pull Lisa Chesters off her comfortable perch. She’s a puffed up parrot that could be exposed by a hard edged attack. Nothing about yesterday gave me impression the Nats know how to do this.

Vance is of Ulster Scots Irish descent, the blood that runs through his veins is the same blood as those rugged men from the 18th century who laid down the economic, social and political foundations of the country now known as America. He was raised by his maternal grandparents because his frequently drug-addled mother struggled for years with addiction. It is all laid out in Vance’s book, Hillbilly Elegy.

Like so many who share Vance’s dismal economic and social beginnings, be they ‘white trash’, ‘black trash’ or ‘Latino trash’, be they hillbillies like Vance or be they from the now barren wastelands that was once the American industrial powerhouse….aka ‘the rust belt’, the usual way to dig your way out of poverty has been through enlisting in the military. This same ‘trash’, white, black, Latino or whatever, are the lifeforce of the US military complex, a complex completely dependent on poor young men and women enlisting to improve their opportunities in life. It takes them away from their dysfunctional families, towns and cities and it gives them a job but enlisting is a quid pro quo deal, you join up to be deployed as human fodder but that same military can and will give you opportunities, such as through the G.I bill. That was an opportunity JD took up, after being deployed to Iraq, serving with distinction, Vance took up the educational opportunities offered through the G.I. Bill and won a place at Yale

This human fodder, these naive young men and women, just like Vance over 20 years ago, are sent to fight wars in countries I can guarantee you they’d never heard of prior to enlisting.

I think that after Afghanistan and Iraq many Americans are a little wary of sending their young men and women to fight in foreign wars, and of sending billions of dollars to arm a country with an ungrateful and rude clown as president, particularly when across the US there are barren and dysfunctional wastelands in urgent need of billions of dollars. That old saying is apt…..charity begins at home.

Both Vance and Trump want to save lives, neither are warmongers. And Vance, even more so than Trump, is the voice of the ‘white trash, the ‘black trash’ and the ‘Latino trash’, he speaks for those young men and women who enlist in the military, he speaks for middle America, he speaks for those barren economic wastelands.

I look forward to President Vance. Watching Vance, I was reminded of presidents of old, be they Johnson, Lincoln, Jackson and so on, men who spoke their minds and who didn’t give a shit what others thought.

Two final thoughts…firstly, Zelensky, despite his penchant for fancy dress, be it military or clown, has never seen active service. JD Vance has.

Secondly, the enemy is not Russia, the enemy is China. That’s not to say Vladimir Putin is a good man, he’s not, he’s a ruthless despotic tsar in the same vein as his heroes from Russian history…..Tsar Peter and Tsar Nicholas I, and anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of Russian history knows that.

100% Cassie. I would only add that the external enemy is China and that Trump and Vance are simultaneously having to confront both external and internal enemies. It will be no mean feat and lord knows we desperately need them to prevail.

I’m with you on Vance, Cassie, ever since I read Hillbilly Elegy. It struck a chord with me, as it has done with many. I’ve had similar struggles in my own life and upbringing, for those who don’t know, just one of many millions in Western nations who chime in emotionally to JD’s world. I’ve also given Hillbilly Elegy to my grandson to read, to surely recognise in it the drugged world of his parents in Sydney’s public housing as he fights his way out of it.

Vance’s book is a tour de force about the American rust belts (they are mutliple). It is both personal and sociological in its approach and can extend its reach to many Western nations who have hollowed out their manufacturing in exchange for vote herds and wokeness. Sydney’s West when I lived there was a manufacturing powerhouse; my mum worked in a factory on the production line; my father swept floors in one after his own dreams evaporated. Now the West is housing estates of migrants and others on government ‘jobs’, the DSP or the dole.

I’ve lived in the north of England more recently, and it’s the same sad tale.

When JD berated Zelinsky for rudeness, for lack of thanks, it was his old grandma Mamaw speaking from hillbilly days and ways, and also his time in the military. Shape up, be grateful, show respect, don’t answer back rudely.

You are right that he speaks as he finds fit. Used well it is an asset. As I’ve said about it though, JD must temper it with caution and nuance in the big wide world of politics. Life outside the boondocks is a big learning curve. No need to tell me that. Good luck, JD. For as you explain in your book and I know only too well, JD, it takes spectacular luck, the coming together of a range of people and circumstances for the one individual, to make the leap you made.

Here’s wishing you all the luck in the world, JD, from me and those millions of others who see themselves somewhere in your early experiences and indeed from all of those who hope to see you as President one day.

Lindsey Graham is a weasel. I’ve seen him do about faces before. Here Tucker explains this one.

@TuckerCarlson

One of the most striking things about yesterday’s Zelensky press conference was Lindsey Graham’s reaction to it. The two are old friends, but Graham disavowed him within the hour. This was more than just transactional disloyalty. It was scapegoating. Lindsey Graham knows what’s coming. Over the past three years, with the tacit support of its western patrons, the Ukrainian government has committed a remarkable number of serious crimes. The Ukrainians sold huge quantities of American weapons on the international black market at twenty cents on the dollar. These weapons are now in the hands of armed groups around the world, including Hamas, the Mexican drug cartels and the forces now controlling Syria. God knows what the Ukrainians have done with the pathogens in American biolabs in their country. Even US intel agencies aren’t sure. The Ukrainians have also murdered a number of people in various countries in political assassinations, and tried to murder others, including American journalists and a European head of state. This is all true, and it’s all going to come out at some point. Better to start blaming it on Zelensky now.

Also I think because Graham had just hosted the Zelensky entourage, with a bunch of Democrat senators and a handful of RINO’s promising ongoing support for Ukraine, before arriving at the White House.

Trump cannot afford to allow multiple ‘official’ contact points and mixed messaging with the Ukes. No doubt his people will be reading those idiot Senators the riot act, including Graham.

Gene Hackman and his wife are murder victims, some scum bags did it and staged it. Stop talking about the films he is in, this is how they get away with murdering famous people! Zelenskyy could have signed the deal five days earlier but wanted to come to the White House.

He’d been difficult for two weeks. Yet he wanted the White House meeting. Trump was upbeat about it even just the day before publicly and privately the day of.

Although he could have reset the whole thing Zelenskyy was antagonistic and over the top.

There are no more cards to play. No more “it could be your sons next” or “one more year and we’ll have them on their knees.”

America has to move to our core interests now: Homeland and China.

All he had to do was smile for the cameras, sign the minerals deal and have lunch. That’s it. He couldn’t do it. He failed his country and the relatively standard practice for an Oval Office meeting like this.

There are now serious questions if we can even deal with him. He blew it.

He had a one foot putt but was more interested in litigating issues that should be discussed behind closed doors (and have been) in public.

It is in the national interest of the U.S. for there to be a peace deal. Now.

Trump ran on this. It’s not a surprise.

There will be no more money for war there. Not from us.

Now is the time for peace.

But some of it fits. He ignores that donbass arced up early and that kyiv responded to Russian builup of forces in donbass. The Malay jet was brought down by a Russian air defence unit in donbass. My mate who at the time of the shoot down was doing a course at school of infantry reckons it was likely rebels manning the Buk with Spetsnaz handlers. The Buk has 2 settings one for illiterate peasants to shoot down radar blips and the other for trained operators that would have identified that it was an airliner.

My 2c worth at the time was why were airliners going anywhere near a low level conflict if it was known these platforms were kicking around? Malaysia was on an unlucky run of luck at that stage.

As for the war, it needs to come to an end as it is a distraction from the real build up going on in the Pacific. Should be a wake up call to how unprepared we are.

What you need to know about: Labor’s Victorian cash splash

Labor at risk of losing eight seats to Coalition in Victoria

New polling suggests Labor is at risk of losing up to eight seats to the Coalition in the traditionally safe state of Victoria.

The Redbridge-Accent data has found support for Labor has fallen to 43 per cent on a two-party preferred basis across five marginal seats in the state.

That is a swing of 8.4 per cent towards the Coalition when compared to the results of the 2022 election.

@VDHanson

Ten bad takeaways from the Zelenskyy blow-up

1. Zelenskyy does not grasp—or deliberately ignores—the bitter truth: those with whom he feels most affinity (Western globalists, the American Left, the Europeans) have little power in 2025 to help him. And those with whom he obviously does not like or seeks to embarrass (cf. his Scranton, Penn. campaign-like visit in September 2024) alone have the power to save him. For his own sake, I hope he is not being “briefed” by the Obama-Clinton-Biden gang to confront Trump, given their interests are not really Ukraine’s as they feign.

2. Zelenskyy acts as if his agendas and ours are identical. So, he keeps insisting that he is fighting for us despite our two-ocean-distance that he mocks. We do have many shared interests with Ukraine, but not all by any means: Trump wants to “reset” with Russia and triangulate it against China. He seeks to avoid a 1962 DEFCON 2-like crisis over a proxy showdown in proximity to a nuclear rival. And he sincerely wants to end the deadlocked Stalingrad slaughterhouse for everyone’s sake.

3. The Europeans (and Canada) are now talking loudly of a new muscular antithesis, independent of the U.S. Promises, promises—given that would require Europeans to prune back their social welfare state, frack, use nuclear, stop the green obsessions, and spend 3-5 percent of their GDP on defense. The U.S. does not just pay 16 percent of NATO’s budget but also puts up with asymmetrical tariffs that result in a European Union trade surplus of $160 billion, plays the world cop patrolling sea-lanes and deterring terrorists and rogues states that otherwise might interrupt Europe’s commercial networks abroad, as well as de facto including Europe under a nuclear umbrella of 6,500 nukes.

4. Zelenskyy must know that all of the once deal-stopping issues to peace have been de facto settled: Ukraine is now better armed than most NATO nations, but will not be in NATO; and no president has or will ever supply Ukraine with the armed wherewithal to take back the Donbass and Crimea. So, the only two issues are a) how far will Putin be willing to withdraw to his 2022 borders and b) how will he be deterred? The first is answered by a commercial sector/tripwire, joint Ukrainian-US-Europe resource development corridor in Eastern Ukraine, coupled with a Korea-like DMZ; the second by the fact that Putin unlike his 2008 and 2014 invasions has now lost a million dead and wounded to a Ukraine that will remain thusly armed.

5. What are Zelenskyy’s alternatives without much U.S. help—wait for a return of the Democrats to the White House in four years? Hope for a rearmed Europe? Pray for a Democratic House and a 3rd Vindman-like engineered Trump impeachment? Or swallow his pride, return to the White House, sign the rare-earth minerals deal, invite in the Euros (are they seriously willing to patrol a DMZ?), and hope Trump can warn Putin, as he did successfully between 2017-21, not to dare try it again?

6. If there is a cease fire, a commercial deal, a Euro ground presence, and influx of Western companies into Ukraine, would there be elections? And if so, would Zelenskyy and his party win? And if not, would there be a successor transparent government that would reveal exactly where all the Western financial aid money went?

7. Zelenskyy might see a model in Netanyahu. The Biden Administration was far harder on him than Trump is on Ukraine: suspending arms shipments, demanding cease-fires, prodding for a wartime, bipartisan cabinet, hammering Israel on collateral damage—none of which Westerners have demanded of Zelenskyy. Yet Netanyahu managed a hostile Biden, kept Israel close to its patron, and when visiting was gracious to his host. Netanyahu certainly would never before the global media have interrupted, and berated a host and patron president in the White House.

8. If Ukraine has alienated the U.S. what then is its strategic victory plan? Wait around for more Euros? Hold off an increasingly invigorated Russian military? Cede more territory? What, then, exactly are Zelenskyy’s cards he seems to think are a winning hand?

9. If one views carefully all the 50-minute tape, most of it was going quite well—until Zelenskyy started correcting Vance firstly, and Trump secondly. By Ukraine-splaining to his hosts, and by his gestures, tone, and interruptions, he made it clear that he assumed that Trump was just more of the same compliant, clueless moneybags Biden waxen effigy. And that was naïve for such a supposedly worldly leader.

10. March 2025 is not March 2022, after the heroic saving of Kyiv—but three years and 1.5 million dead and wounded later. Zelenskyy is no longer the international heartthrob with the glamorous entourage. He has postponed elections, outlawed opposition media and parties, suspended habeas corpus and walked out of negotiations when he had an even hand in Spring 2022 and apparently even now when he does not in Spring 2025.

Today in History.

Eighty-one years ago today, the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy began to sustain one of the most significant brief-period losses of their South West Pacific Campaign.

Known to the Japanese as Operation 81, and to the Allies as the Battle of the Bismarck Sea, over a period of roughly three days from the 2nd of March, 1943, a convoy of sixteen Japanese ships transporting a regimental group of the 51st Division from Rabaul to Lae, New Guinea, was annihilated.

Initial public announcements from General MacArthur’s GHQ (in Brisbane) stated that 22 ships and 15,000 men had been sent to the bottom of the sea, primarily in the Huon Gulf, to the east and southeast of Lae and Salamaua.

While the exact number of personnel lost will never be known, a minimum of 4,000 men were drowned or killed on the surface, while twelve of the sixteen vessels that comprised the convoy were sunk: All eight merchant ships, and four of the eight destroyers. MacArthur stuck to his original statement (which was understandable due to the confusion of the initial actions) for many years afterward.

The convoy was destroyed due solely to Allied air power – no Allied naval vessels took part. A number of books have been written about these events, one of the earliest and best being by an Australian whose name escapes me at the moment (Top Ender knows him, I believe).

The losses the Japanese incurred were not only the 12 ships and 4,000+ men (including a regimental commander, two infantry battalion commanders, and one field artillery battalion commander; a substantial amount of food, equipment, and weapons went down with the ships and men. These included landing craft, artillery pieces, fuel, and motor vehicles.

If there’s any interest in the topic, I’ll post some snippets over the next day or two.

One interesting thought to mull over is that prior to Operation 81, the Japanese were planning to situate their 18th Army Headquarters in the vicinity of Hopoi, to the near-east of Lae. After the destruction of the convoy, General Adachi’s HQ were located much further north, at Amron, near Madang. There were both benefits and problems with this distance, which is another (lengthy) post for another day.

Lex McAuley wrote the first substantial post-Official Histories book about the Bismarck Sea. I believe it has since been re-released? I think one or two others have also written on the subject, but I know nothing about those volumes.

It’s a fascinating story about air power, and was taken note of by Allied partners abroad.

Taxpayers are already on the hook for this stuff for generations to come.
He should be talking more about pursuing newer solutions.
Like become a partner with Anduril so Australia can be towards the front of the line for their stuff.

Need more modern platforms for the troops, air forces or naval assets are no good unless a grunt is sitting on that ground. At the moment they cant even get them to that ground in a timely manner without being compromised IS&R.

We are too heavily leveraged on the USA coming to the rescue. Plenty of ways we can become like a porcupine and they involve mobile missile platforms and RSFU type militias. My mate is big on the Rhodesian scouts model. Delaying defence by attrition and scorched earth policy.

No, King Chuck is a descendant of both. Tsar Nicholas I is the tsar I refer to above and he is Chuck’s great-great-grandfather, and Peter the Great was Nicholas I’s great-great-grandfather.

Nicholas II did not leave any living descendants, his children were murdered alongside him in a cellar in Ekaterinburg.

Much was made at the time of MacArthur heading north and having to ‘drag’ Gen. Blamey northwards after him. Though this had to happen at some point, the fact was that the southern capitals had both the civilian and military infrastructure, whereas Brisbane was still something of a country town. (Townsville would have been a more suitable headquarters base had it possessed the necessary facilities).

When in doubt just ask “who benefits?” Not the Russians. Could have been a screw up but nobody flies around in a war zone at 30,000 feet with military intent nowadays unless in a good stealth aircraft which a Boeing 777 isn’t.
Ukes had every incentive to provoke international outrage against the Russians.

Go, Lia!

The Northern Territory government has confirmed it is planning to scrap a key clause in the territory’s anti-discrimination laws, claiming it could lead to people being “attacked for telling a joke”.

The Country Liberal Party (CLP) government’s changes will reverse controversial measures introduced by the former NT Labor government just three years ago.

The changes made it unlawful to “to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate” another person or group because of a personal characteristic such as race or gender, which could result in action by the NT’s Anti-Discrimination Commission.

Labor also passed an amendment that removed an exemption for religious schools, allowing them to refuse to hire people outside of that faith.

At the time, the measures were applauded by members of the NT’s LQBTQIA+ community but opposed by religious groups who argued they impinged on religious freedom.

Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby said Labor’s changes would be reversed in parliament this year.

I’m liking this girl, who does not need cojones to tackle bad policies head-on (piss off, Arky). The usual suspects are saying the predictable things, but she doesn’t care.

Mind you, the digging into every aspect of her past in the hope of finding something embarrassing is no doubt well underway. Let’s hope she survives it.

Piers Akerman:

Our kids need protection from anti-Semitic Islamic pro-Palestine propaganda at their schools.

Outspoken Granville Boys’ High School support officer Sheik Wesam Charkawi was ordered to work from home after posting a video to Instagram on February 16 criticising the response to two Bankstown hospital nurses who allegedly threatened to kill Israeli patients and refuse to treat them in a widely-viewed interview.

Following a protest at the school Wednesday by students and members of Teachers and School Staff For Palestine demanding Charkawi’s return, the education department reversed its decision and allowed him back to the school on Friday.

The NSW Department of Education said in a statement it had “counselled” Charkawi over his actions and “reminded (him) of his obligations as a department employee”.

In actuality, the department buckled under pressure from Muslim activists at a school in a marginal electorate currently held by the federal Education Minister Jason Clare.

In his social media posts, Charkawi defended nurse Sarah Abu Lebdeh, who has been charged with three offences including threaten violence to a group and use of carriage service to threaten to kill. Her colleague, Ahmad Rashad Nadir, also defended by Charkawi, has not been charged.

In his Instagram post, Charkawi said the nurses’ comments were “never meant to be literal or intended to be a threat to patient care” and criticised the “hypocrisy” of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Health Minister Ryan Park for remaining silent “when confronted with the most egregious acts of violence committed by Israel”.

He also criticised “selective outrage”, saying “we refuse to accept a political and media landscape where Muslims are only visible when they are being condemned, but invisible when they are being killed”.

His criticism just doesn’t stand up.

There are Muslims elected to the federal and state parliaments, some local government areas have majority Muslim councillors – all visible, political and hardly condemned.

This weekend, more than a million visitors are expected to attend a Muslim food festival in Western Sydney celebrating the beginning of the Muslim holy month Ramadan. That is high-level visibility.

The leadership of the Muslim community is in denial and guilty of selective outrage.

Since October 7, 2023, Muslim leaders have failed to condemn the disgusting and unbridled savagery displayed by the barbaric members of Hamas, backed by Gazan civilians, as they raped, tortured, murdered and took hostage Israeli civilians 16 months ago.

Toddlers dressed as terrorists clutching scaled down weapons as they chant hate-filled slogans and accompanied by doting relatives taking videos for the family album have been seen in demonstrations in Sydney and Melbourne.

There have been no noticeable responses by child welfare authorities or the woke media though, should some whacko decide to sew a neat little white-peaked Ku Klux Klan outfit for junior, there would be uproar from the chattering classes and questions asked in parliaments, state and federal.

The Albanese government has given tacit support to the anti-Israel lobby since the terrorist invasion as ASIO boss Mike Burgess declares anti-Semitism is now the greatest threat to life in Australia.

While Egypt and Jordan refuse to accept Palestinians fleeing Gaza, our government has granted about 3000 tourist visas and more than 1700 Gazans have arrived in Australia with minimal security checks, and has voted at the UN on anti-Israel motions.

NSW’s Labor Premier Chris Minns has spoken out against the surge in anti-Semitic terrorism but the failure of Education Minister Pru Carr to act forcefully in line with the premier’s stance is marked.

The Left of the Labor Party supports the whining Arab grievance industry which has seen the numbers of self-proclaimed Palestinian refugees grow from around 700,000 in 1948 to an estimated 9.3 million now – all this growth in population while claiming that Israel is committing a genocide!

Instead of employing activist ideologically-driven “support” teachers, the NSW Education Department should recruit civics teachers and make civics and history compulsory subjects, along with the core classes in reading, writing and arithmetic.

Jason Clare. A true prick.

US banks have financed the UKR government during the war expecting to reap rewards during reconstruction.

Exaggerated and largely in areas under Russian control.

Likely exaggerated for effect – nobody really knows what’s there – but 80% of known deposits are in UKR controlled territory.

Good luck with that.

Money talks, even in this administration.

Oh come on. If it amounted to a security guarantee why didn’t Trump just grant one?

Not wanting to derail his Russian ambitions.

So “out of Ukraine” in regard to funding the war and a major headache but not “out of Ukraine” completely.

See, I can fisk too!

Definitely the case the euroweenies regard the USA (and us of course) as uppity colonials that do not know our place.

LMAO: TRUMP DID NOT PAY ZELENSKY’S HOTEL!

Ukraine had to pay for the arrival and stay of the delegation in the USA.

The Trump administration refused to cover the expenses of a foreign delegation for the first time, WSJ reports.

Not only were they not fed and humiliated, but they also paid for it all at their own expense.

It’s real. Vance is a prime target for assassination at any time now that he is the backstop for Trump, who could have an elderly person’s demise any day.

I was so relieved when both were inaugurated. The assassins going after Trump would be foiled by the fact that they would get Vance in exchange.

Both of them and their immediate families need full security against bullets and other attacks; how horrible to think of Vance being shot and his young family left fatherless as well as the nation being bereft.

Straws in a wind.

Yes, paper straws suck. Rather than bring back plastic ones, let’s avoid single-use items (Phys.org, 1 Mar)

When US President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to return to plastic straws, claiming the paper version is ineffective and “disgustingly dissolves in your mouth,” he was widely criticized for setting back efforts to reduce plastic pollution.

It’s true paper straws can disintegrate and become soggy before we finish a drink. Problems with finding viable substitutes to single-use plastics is one of the many challenges involved in phasing them out.

Plastic straws cause greenie brains to disintegrate and become soggy. Here’s who they are:

Bhavna Middha – ARC DECRA Senior Research Fellow, Centre for Urban Research, RMIT University

Kajsa Lundberg – Research Fellow Sustainable Consumption and Policy, Centre for Urban Research, College of Design & Social Context, RMIT University

Ralph Horne – Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation, College of Design & Social Context, RMIT University

I love that a bunch of drones from RMIT are schooling Trump about plastic straws. Can there be anything as futile and inane? Fire them all.

Not sure and stand corrected by more knowledgeable Cats – mitochondrial DNA through the female line?

Correct. Two sets of mitochondrial DNA were used to identify the bones unearthed from the forest outside Ekaterinburg. Mitochondrial DNA from Tsarina Alexandra’s family (Prince Philip’s) and mitochondrial DNA from descendants through the female line of a sister of Nicholas II.

After murdering the imperial family in July 1918, the Bolsheviks clumsily tried to burn all the butchered Romanov corpses (and three retainers) however burning many corpses takes time so after burning two, they then hastily buried the remaining corpses in an abandoned mine shaft and poured acid down the shaft to hinder identification in case anyone stumbled upon the scene. A few weeks after the murders the White Army liberated Ekaterinburg and several White officers made their way to the forest where they narrowly missed the mine shaft. Instead they focused their search on an area near the mine shaft, where they found empty acid cans, teeth, a finger, clothing, jewellery, amulets, a dead dog, all of which they were able to identify (the finger and some of the teeth belonged to Alexandra) but they were unable to find the corpses.

And so a mystery was created and this mystery gave rise to a conga line of Romanov imposters, the most famous being Anna Anderson.

Close relatives of the imperial family, such as the Tsarina’s sisters (one of whom was Prince Philip’s grandmother (she was also the late Earl Mountbatten’s mother), the Tsar’s sisters and other close retainers always knew Anna Anderson was a fraud.

Meanwhile, the Ural city of Ekaterinburg was later named ‘Sverdlovsk’ in honour of Lenin’s great buddy, Jacob Sverdlovsk. The city grew into an industrial metropolis and powerhouse, its chief products being armaments and medical supplies (an odd combo). Everyone living in the city knew of the Romanov connections, the Ipatiev house where the family were imprisoned and murdered later became a museum under the Soviets, and many knew where they were buried but due to Soviet censorship and the risk of imprisonment, people were very fearful about discussing the family. However, in the late 1970s two curious Ekaterinburg residents, both with an interest in history, decided to try and find the site where the Romanovs were buried. With the support of their wives they pretended to picnic in the forest every weekend so as to not alert the Soviet authorities. It did not take them long to long to find the shaft and the skeletons. They took some bones, including the skull of Nicholas II, home and the discovery remained a closely guarded secret for another decade. It took until the collapse of the Soviet Union for them to reveal their find and it was then that the bones could be tested and finally, in 1998, Nicholas, his wife, three of their five children and their retainers who stayed with them until the grisly end were buried in a St Petersburg cathedral. But two children were missing, the heir Alexis and Anastasia. So what happened to them? Charred bones have since been found that match the two children. Before the Bolshevik butchers threw the corpses down the shaft they burnt two, one being Alexis and the other being Anastasia.

A sad story, anyway, there you go, a history lesson.

Military history – Bismarck Sea – Snippets, Part I.

USAAF Second Lieutenant E.T. Solomon, pilot of a B-25 C1 – two of the four-man crew were from the RAAF – attacked a light cruiser of about 3,000 tons at 1500L on the 3rd [March ‘43], ‘East and a little South of Salamaua.’

The cruiser was at least file miles from other vessels in the convoy and rescuing men from the water, heading westerly or north-westerly (towards Lae) at a slow speed, when the formation Solomon was a part of attacked it. Like others of his aircraft type, Solomon’s first run was from bow to stern, but such was the number of Allied aircraft in the area, both bombing and strafing, that he pulled out to avoid the flight path of another B-25.

On his second run, this time from stern to bow, Solomon scored a direct hit on the rear gun of the cruiser with a 500lb 5-second delay bomb. Solomon then attacked an already-crippled transport on a broadside run and scored a direct hit with another 500lb bomb. At no time on his bombing runs did his aircraft rise about 50 feet from the water level. Twice he was attacked by defending Japanese ‘Zero’ type fighters which he gauged were helmed by experienced pilots, Solomon escaping via “violent turns on the water.”

USAAF Captain R.D. Chatt of the 90th Bombardment Sqn, 3rd Bombardment Group: 1000L/3 [Mar ‘43], ‘East and a little South of Salamaua’ first targeting a blue-grey destroyer of 1500 tons which ‘turned his bow toward me.’ At 10 feet above the waterline “I came in low enough that he could not depress his heavy guns down to me.”

Chatt dropped two of his bombs which ‘skipped once and went into the bow of the boat below the water line and explode[d].” Chatt commented in his after-action report that the timing of the multi-level attack on the convoy was ‘perfect.’

In the days leading up to the executions, Yurovsky, who was the family’s gaoler and who led the executions in the cellar, found it difficult to find any ethnic Russian guards willing to participate in the executions. Many had formed attachments to the grand duchesses, many pitied the young Alexis (by then a cripple), and many were just appalled at the idea of murdering children. So Yurovsky, a tough and embittered Ural Bolshevik, enlisted non-Russian POWs for the murders, one of whom was likely the Hungarian communist Imre Nagy.

Military history – Bismarck Sea – Snippets, Part II.

Fujita, Denzo, was a member of No. 12 (Captain Takahashi, Yasuichi) Tai, of the 115th Regiment, embarked on the Teiyo Maru. He later wrote in his diary: “A fire was also started on the bow of our ship so at 0825 hrs, we lowered ourselves into the water by ropes; some jumped overboard. After being in the water for about an hour we were rescued by the destroyer Uranami … [which]… took us back to Rabaul …

Fujita was lucky to have been rescued so quickly, but due to illness and the exigencies of the dire transport arrangements between New Britain and New Guinea, he was not destined to serve with his regiment in the grinder that was Salamaua.

He did have a brother, however, Kosaku, whom he recorded having safely arrived at Lae by Navy speed boat on the 26th of August, 1943. As with the fate of almost all of the authors of these lost personal diaries, the fate of the Fujita brothers is unknown.

On the 5th of March, an intercepted and translated message from an unknown sender to an unknown addressee stated that the Japanese in the Lae-Salamaua area had only six days of ordinary food rations remaining, in addition to 10 days of emergency rations. With initially about 1,000 survivors of the convoy disaster reaching Lae, and the supplies the convoy had been carrying all lost, this was a dire situation for the Japanese. The immediate answer was to utilise their submarines as tranports…

Satya Nadella – Microsoft’s AGI Plan & Quantum Breakthrough

In this podcast episode, Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, discusses several technological advancements and strategic directions. Key points include: 1. **Quantum Computing Breakthrough**: Microsoft has achieved a physics and fabrication breakthrough with the Majorana zero modes, which could lead to the development of a utility-scale quantum computer with a million physical qubits. This is compared to a “transistor moment” for quantum computing, marking a pivotal step towards scalable quantum solutions. 2. **Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and AI Strategy**: Nadella emphasized the importance of AI in driving future growth, stating compute power as a critical resource. He highlighted the need to balance technological advances with the development of trust and alignment frameworks, and dismissed the notion of a winner-takes-all scenario in AI, predicting a diverse ecosystem instead. 3. **Applications in Gaming and AI Use**: Microsoft is also developing sophisticated AI models for generating games, leveraging real-time gameplay data. This could revolutionize how games are constructed and interacted with, aligning with Microsoft’s broader strategy of integrating AI across platforms, including gaming, to enhance user experiences. 4. **Enterprise and SaaS Evolution**: Nadella foresees a shift in knowledge work, with AI playing a significant role in transforming workflows across enterprises. He sees potential in automating current work processes while creating new domains of cognitive labor, suggesting an evolution in how productivity tools like Microsoft’s Office suite will be used. 5. **Strategic Long-Term Focus and Company’s Future**: Nadella reflects on Microsoft’s historical focus on long-term research and adaptive strategies that keep the company relevant. He emphasizes the importance of a culture that allows for continuous innovation and re-evaluation of core business assumptions to stay competitive. 6. **Vision for Economic Growth and Societal Impact**: Nadella advocates for the potential of AI and quantum computing to accelerate economic growth and provide broad societal benefits, particularly in areas like healthcare and education. However, he stresses that realizing this potential requires aligning technological capabilities with legal and societal frameworks. Overall, the conversation highlights Microsoft’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge technologies while ensuring their responsible integration and broader economic and societal implications.

Endeavor Flight 4819
Thursday, Feb. 20, 6:30 p.m. ET

Information about Endeavor Air 4819 flight crew

Endeavor Air and Delta are correcting disinformation in social media containing false and misleading assertions about the flight crew of Endeavor Air 4819.

Captain: Mesaba Airlines, a progenitor company of Endeavor Air, hired the captain in October 2007. He has served both as an active duty Captain and in pilot training and flight safety capacities. Assertions that he failed training events are false. Assertions that he failed to flow into a pilot position at Delta Air Lines due to training failures are also false.
First Officer: Hired in January 2024 by Endeavor Air and completed training in April. She has been flying for Endeavor since that time. Her flight experience exceeded the minimum requirements set by U.S. Federal regulations. Assertions that she failed training events are false.
Both crew members are qualified and FAA certified for their positions.

Never forget that the mainstream media’s first instinct was to censor that information — which it did — because the MSM knows Delta hired incompetent pilots as a result of its DEI policy — which the media defends out of blind tribal loyalty. Stuff public safety — the media is happy to kill you for the sake of mad politcal ideology.

This is what Trump avoided.
Team Zelenskyy Has a “Security Guarantee” Plan to Recapture all Lost Ukraine Territory

It’s a trap!

As soon as U.S. troops enter the equation on the ground in Russia, particularly as the buffer force in the point of conflict between Ukranian and Russian military, there will be some intentional event created to harm U.S. troops and thrust the USA NATO alliance in direct combat with Russia.

This is the element of Zelenskyy’s greatest need. If U.S. troops are killed or drawn into combat, an escalated war against Russia becomes the tool to get all the captured territory back. The outline is clear.

It doesn’t need to be Russia attacking U.S-led NATO troops, it only needs to be the impression of Russia attacking to create the horrific narrative. The global intelligence network is very skilled at creating the optics of conflict and assigning blame to the wrong actors. This is what they have done in the past in various regional conflicts in order to achieve the result.

WOFTAM (Waste Of Fking Time And Money) news (the CM):

(A) Navy vessel has been deployed and en route from Brisbane to the Coral Sea to search for a Lithuanian rower caught in cyclonic conditions.

Australian Martime Safety Authority received an emergency beacon alert on Friday night from the vessel of Aurimas Mockus, which was located around 740km east of Mackay and about 90km west of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

And:

Overnight, AMSA tasked Cairns-based Challenger search and rescue aircraft, along with an Australian Air Force P8-A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, but was unable to see the vessel and establish communications with Mr Mockus.

Mr Mockus was attempting a world record row from San Diego to Brisbane and became caught up in cyclonic conditions, battling 100kmh winds and heavy seas – waves of five to seven metres.

I have no idea why this would occur – spending tens of thousands, at least, to go and rescue a dude deliberately rowing into a cyclone in open waters.

Let him be, and let Lloyds of London carry the slack.

@seanmdav

As Obama’s national security advisor, Rice was a key architect of the West’s of the 2014 Maidan coup in Ukraine, which was the foundation for everything that has happened in Ukraine since then. All the needless death and destruction was built upon the Maidan madness that Rice and her friends deliberately designed.

If you’re wondering why she’s so angry and defensive—simultaneously claiming to have in-depth personal knowledge of the dynamics driving the negotiation while confessing she hasn’t talked to a single person involved in any of it—it’s because everything happening in Ukraine today was deliberately set in motion by her utter incompetence as Obama’s top foreign policy adviser.

Deep down she knows this, and she hates herself for it. But she can’t admit any of it publicly, even if it’s obvious to anyone who’s been paying attention for the last decade.

No, Donald Trump is not a direct descendant of Wyatt Earp. There is no known genealogical connection between them. Wyatt Earp, the famous lawman of the Old West, had no children, which means he has no direct descendants.

Donald Trump’s ancestry is primarily of German and Scottish origin, while Wyatt Earp’s family background is mostly English and Scots-Irish. If you heard this claim somewhere, it’s likely a myth or misinformation.

Striking new HMAS Perth memorial in East Fremantle officially opened by Governor Chris Dawson

The HMAS Perth memorial in East Fremantle was officially opened by the Governor of WA Chris Dawson on Saturday. Credit: Justin Benson-Cooper/The Sunday Times

When 681 men boarded HMAS Perth at Fremantle in 1941 to join the fight in WWII, they could not know it would be the last time more than two-thirds of them would see home soil.
Those brave souls have now been properly honoured with a striking memorial officially opened on East Fremantle’s waterfront on Saturday by dignitaries including Governor Chris Dawson and Veterans Issues Minister Paul Papalia.
Designed by the team behind Geraldton’s celebrated HMAS Sydney II memorial, the new monument next to the Swan Yacht Club is shaped like a ship’s bow, features images of the sailors and is illuminated at night.
Alongside is a wall of remembrance listing all of those who were on board.
?
Captain Ken Burleigh, commanding officer of HMAS Stirling, told the crowd that it was by “numerically superior Japanese forces” that HMAS Perth was sunk on March 1, 1942, in Indonesia’s Sunda Strait.
And Dylan White, commanding officer of HMAS Perth III, told the crowd that three torpedoes hit the warship almost simultaneously.
The USS Houston, a Northampton-class cruiser that was also part of the allied fleet, was sunk about 20 minutes later.
“Severely outnumbered by a very professional opposition, the two ships fought to the end, firing star shells and practice shells as their ammunition ran short,” Cdr White said.

Only 218 from HMAS Perth returned home, with 353 killed in action and four dying after reaching shore. Of the 324 survivors who became prisoners of war in horrendous Japanese camps, 109 perished in captivity.
It proved to be one of Australia’s worst wartime losses and the USS Houston crew suffered a similar fate.
Robert Waller, grandson of HMAS Perth Captain Hec Waller, who went down with his ship, led messages of reflection.
“The grandfather I never met . . . colloquially known as ‘Hard Over Hec”, derived the nickname from his ability to avoid bombs when his ship was under air attack,” Dr Waller said.

Military history – Bismarck Sea – Snippets, Part III.

Intelligence coup.
One of the most significant long-term beneficial outcomes for the U.S. and Australia as a result of the devastation of Operation 81/the Battle of the Bismarck Sea (Huon Gulf) was the finding on either Goodenough or Fergusson Island [I’m writing this from memory, so apologies for the lack of detail] – both in the vicinity of the south-eastern tail of Papua – of a large cache of water-soaked Japanese documents.

For those Japanese lucky enough to successfully abandon their ship before it went down, and find a ship’s boat or raft (some were destroyed in the attacks and some could not be lowered from their davits), the current swept them roughly south or southeast, towards the two islands mentioned above. Some also landed farther afield, in the Trobriands, for example. Many were killed on the water in straffing attacks by Allied aircraft.

There were numerous small skirmishes – very much one-way – between the shipwrecked Japanese and small Australian or sometimes local native, forces. As a result of one of these hunts, the cache of documents was found and transported to mainland Australia where the enormous task of saving and examining them began immediately.

The efforts expended were worth it, for what the Allies now had in their hands was an almost-complete list of officers of the Imperial Japanese Army; not just in the South West Pacific Area, but the ENTIRETY of the IJA. So important was the find and painstaking restoration and translation efforts, that the U.S War Department called a conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss the trove.

The resulting volume (two additional, more concise volumes were later published) was an almost unsurpassed reference work for the Order of Battle (OOB) Sections of the various intelligence levels within the Allied Command. An OOB Section (or single officer if it was at a lower level) was responsible for identifying which enemy formations and units were present in a particular battle area, and their internal organisation.

The Japanese frequently identified their units by the name of that unit’s commander. For example: Maruoka Tai, Takamura Tai, Hashimoto Tai could be read as the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, 12th Company. Let’s say a fragment of a document was found at a certain location, and when translated revealed any two of the three above-mentioned names. By referring to the translated Japanese Officer List, we could narrow the identification of the unit/s. Page 278 of the J.O. List features only seven ‘Maruoka’ [luckily it’s not ‘Suzuki’ which runs for many pages!], and tells us their rank and unit at the time of original publication. The most senior is a Maruoka, Yasuhei, a Colonel commanding the 102nd Inf Regt. Cross-checking with other area intelligence sources might be enough to confirm that the 102nd Infantry Regiment is present in our area of operations.

You get the picture.

My point with this post is to state that, unknown to the public at the time (for obvious reasons), this Officer List became a frequently referred-to source for the important but far-from-glamorous OOB work within Allied intelligence (world-wide), as a result of a senior officer (thought to be the captain of one of the merchant vessels) not having disposed of the highly secret documents when he had the opportunity to do so. This find was likely to have been the most significant outcome to the broader Allied cause of Operation 81/the Bismarck Convoy.

WA election 2025: Labor MP boasts over drain that cost almost 10 times $1.5 million promise ahead of electionMatt McKenzieThe West Australian
Sun, 2 March 2025 3:43PM

Comments

A drainage ditch in Perth’s northern suburbs a Labor member boasted over as part of his election campaign has cost taxpayers almost 10 times the promised amount.
The West Australian can reveal the Albert Street urban stream sucked in almost $14 million of cash — despite an original $1.5 million pledge.
The project, which saw the ditch “transformed” to a “vibrant” living stream was signed off by then water minister Dave Kelly.
The kilometre-long drain — nestled between Honeymyrtle Turn and Grindleford Drive and emptying into Roselea Lake — was completed last year, with Water Corporation expecting to continue pumping funds into it until at least 2027, according to budget documents.
The drain is in the electorate of Balcatta, with local Labor member David Michael using the blown out works as part of the State election campaign.
Mr Michael — who is also Mining Minster — has posted to his social media accounts, listing the drain as his 15th greatest achievement since coming to office.
“The Cook Labor Government has invested in building this urban stream, which will improve water quality and create a habitat for wildlife,” he wrote on the post.

It’s a terrible decision to have to make but Hamas cannot be allowed to survive to repeat 7 October.
Hamas will keep some alive as long as they can be used as bargaining chips.

I prefer the old days when the Israelis didn’t negotiate with terrorists but hunted them down relentlessly after the fact.

I suspect we wouldn’t be here if that policy had been maintained.

Okay, so I get that America First is ultimately about opposing China. So why would Trump let Musk kill off USAID, source of so much soft power, which is a gift-wrapped present for China to swan in with its Belt & Road largesse?

So far there has been no populism at all, just billionaires making selfish decisions for their own interests. Just like the first Trump administration, at a faster pace.

The recession caused by stupid tariffs and cratering business and consumer confidence is going to be deep and lasting. Already projected at a 1.5% annualised drop in Q1.

Hostages are their only chips.
“The terms of the second phase of the agreement were kept intentionally vague, anticipating that many of the details would be hammered out in future negotiations. Among the terms to be agreed upon were details of a lasting ceasefire to end Israel’s war on Gaza – which has killed more than 61,700 Palestinians – the complete withdrawal of Israel’s forces from the enclave and the release of all remaining captives held by Hamas in exchange for an undetermined number of Palestinian prisoners”

Premier Roger Cook slams singer Peter Garrett for sowing ‘seeds of hatred’ with Gina Rinehart rantBethany Hiatt & Jessica PageThe West Australian
Sun, 2 March 2025 5:13PM

Roger Cook has lashed rock musician Peter Garrett for sowing “seeds of hatred” with a “completely inappropriate” taunt aimed at WA mining magnate Gina Rinehart during his Perth concert.
The Premier labelled the singer, activist and former Federal politician “disrespectful” for urging his audience to “pretend they’re dancing on Gina Rinehart’s grave” during the Perth Festival show at East Perth Power Station on Friday night.
As well as sledging Australia’s richest person, the 71-year-old Midnight Oil frontman who was performing with his other band, The Alter Egos, also criticised gas giant Woodside and US President Donald Trump between songs.
Perth Festival has defended Garrett’s right to personal artistic expression.

KEIR STARMER TO HOST UKRAINE SUMMIT TODAY AS TRUMP PUTS ZELENSKY IN TIME-OUT

Keir Starmer is gathering European leaders and Zelensky in London after Trump’s Oval Office showdown left Zelensky kicked to the curb.

France’s Macron, Italy’s Meloni, and others are scrambling to reinforce NATO as Trump demands a public apology from Zelensky before even considering more support.

Starmer, fresh from his charm offensive at the White House, is pitching himself as a bridge between Trump and Europe while telling allies to pay up on defense before Trump cancels their subscription.

Zelensky will also meet King Charles as he works to repair ties with the U.S.

One of Biden’s Haitian illegals was charged with the alleged murder of three people in Fayetteville, North Carolina, in late February. The victims of these murders were apparently his family members.

Okay, so I get that America First is ultimately about opposing China. So why would Trump let Musk kill off USAID, source of so much soft power

Let me explain it to you f-ckwit.
When a proper President is elected, he understands that the US can project actual power without spending a dime.
Example.
Panama is playing footsies with Chinah under the table.
There are two options.
1. The Biden/Obumbi option of throwing more cash into the wind (whilst simultaneously hinting that victory is not possible); or
2. The Trump FAFO option, telling Panama that if they keep it up the sky might fall in.
Aaaaaand … Panama rolled over.
And another thing you obese donut inhaler.
USAID had nothing to do with “projecting soft power”. It was an exercise in third wave colonialism, forcing the fetishes of the Far-Left US elites on poorer nations, and with destabilising impacts on the security of the US by fomenting dissent against traditional Western values.
Surely you would applaud the disassembling of USAID, being a key tool of US hegemony?

The problem with all this is that the more Trump withdraws US involvement in world affairs, the less his threats matter. You can see that with Zelenskyy: why would he give in to US demands when it is quite clear that Ukraine’s future lies with Europe?

Bullying Panama is easy. That tactic only works on nearby minnows. Belt & Road is all over Africa, and USAID did a lot of good work there on stuff like AIDS and Ebola. But I guess the Chinese can take over all that stuff now, Trump and his mates need those tax cuts.

This does help to explain some of Zelensky’s intransigence at the Oval Office meeting. He was thoroughly geared up by this initial meeting with the ‘bipartisan’ crew who clearly urged him to still fight on vs Trump/Vance.

Zelensky’s best hope, in my view, is to seek a private interview with Trump/Vance saying he seeks JD’s ‘diplomacy’, and claim that he received encouragement to further pursue his grievances in the public forum at the Oval Office. He could claim he was thus ill-advised, and that he also had some difficulties in speaking in a foreign language without his usual interpreters. We noticed that in a recent meeting in Europe after the showdown with Trump he was using interpreters again.

Either that, or Zelensky resigns and someone else takes over, someone who will play ball.

HOWEVER, there could have been a contributing factor: that Americans, especially in front of cameras, spend a considerably amount of time and effort in mutual masturbation with what seems to regular humans to be a lot of over the top praise.
Z was being matter of fact, which didn’t encompass the levels of mutual j*rking off customary to Americans.
Still think it was a set up and what happened was the intended outcome.

Don’t agree. Trump and Vance started out with a genuine hope that Z would sign up, because it looked to be his best option. Then they realised he was trying to play them. Neither T nor V are the sort to put-up with that. They’re both ‘Don’t take shit from anyone’ types. Especially from a creep like Z. So they didn’t.

You’re a mind reader.
I’m not.
I honestly don’t know what was in the heads of any of them.

Both parties had an agenda. Trump wants to close down the war on accommodating terms to both sides and Z man doesn’t. It doesn’t help that Trump distrusts and dislikes him for shit he pulled causing an impeachment attempt and campaigning with the Demonrats. Z has to resign I think. There’s no place for him in the new environment.

I don’t think it was a set-up- however I do think the barney was an inevitability.
Zelenskyy is a lightweight, a performer accustomed to flattery and scritped instruction.
Trump is instinctive, thinks on his feet, and does not put up with any bullsh*t.
