She was somewhat muted during the loud denunciations of dual-citizen LNP politicians.

Something about being born to Slovenian parents, who owned property in Slovenia, when only Slovenian citizens could own property in that country?

A blonde, a brunette and a redhead are stuck on an island. One day, the three of them are walking along the beach and discover a magic lamp. They rub and rub, and sure enough, out pops a genie. The genie says “Since I can only grant three wishes, you may each have one”. The brunette says “I’ve been stuck here for years. I miss my family, my husband, and my life. I just want to go home”. *POOF!* The brunette gets her wish and she is returned to her family. Then, the red head says “I’ve been stuck here for years as well. I miss my family, my husband, and my life. I wish I could go home too”. *POOF!* The redhead gets her wish and she is returned to her family. The blonde starts crying uncontrollably. The genie asks “My dear, what’s the matter?” The blonde whimpers “I wish my two friends were still here”.

(I’ve been watching the Queen’s funeral, which has been absolutely magnificent. And while the march has been winding through Horse Guards Parade, down the Mall and on past the Palace, I’ve had a quick look at the Cat).

I see that up ticks are now in a hiatus presumably because of claims of supposed manipulation. Personally, I have absolutely no idea on that. (But were it possible to tamper with them, I wouldn’t care anyway). I thought we were all bigger people than being able to be brought down by a lack of up ticks.

From what I’ve been able to garner from the many comments I’ve read over the time I’ve frequented the Cat, and without knowing anyone, some here obviously have held high powered and highly responsible positions, have multiple degrees and/or qualifications and have been in the world contending with much bigger things than a rebus-like sign or two.

Personally, I up tick what I like and what I think is witty, interesting/informative or well argued and I ignore what I think is none of these things.

Since most of those aspects of writing should be self-evident to a bunch of people who all speak and understand the same language, I would think it would be pretty easy to work out what would garner multiple up ticks and what would be ignored.

And to those who think they aren’t getting there share of them, or seem to have been pouting on it and letting it get them down, since we all/most remain anonymous to each other, you shouldn’t care. But if it still matters, well, to counter any feelings of “up tick deprivation”, I would say, “write something worthy” and then see what happens.

And now (since there is no provision for an up tick at the moment – and DB, please put me down as one vote to bring them back if you’re thinking on it) to Barking Toad @7:31 & KD @ 7:32. +1 to each of you.

Australian government faces biggest class action ‘since robodebt’ over NDIS age exclusions
Class action alleging exclusion from disability scheme for over 65s could rival robodebt scandal

….
The Australian government is facing a massive class action – predicted to be on the same scale as the robodebt debacle – for the alleged unlawful exclusion of over 65s from the national disability insurance scheme.

The case, proposed by Mitry lawyers, could see the commonwealth on the hook for an estimated $800m a year for denying support to seriously and permanently disabled people based on their age.

Proponents point to the average $111,000 a year spent on an NDIS plan for seniors who qualified before age 64 – as opposed to $56,000 for the equivalent aged-care scheme – as a form of “pecuniary loss” suffered by those who applied aged 65 and over.

The national disability insurance scheme, established by the Labor government in 2013, only applies to people aged 64 and under at the time they applied for support. Those aged 65 and over are eligible for other programs.

The Mitry Lawyers class action, to be run by barristers Bret Walker and Richard Scheelings, argues the age bar was inconsistent with the convention on the rights of people with disabilities; that could render it unconstitutional because the commonwealth relied on the external affairs power to enact the NDIS.

The staggered state-by-state rollout of the NDIS also could have breached the constitution’s ban on discrimination based on state of residency, it argues.

Beale estimates the cost of the NDIS exclusion at $800m a year, based on a “significant proportion” of the 140,000 people on the highest level of aged-care package who are “seriously and permanently disabled and would have been eligible for NDIS support but for the age exclusion in the Act”.

Mitry Lawyers is in discussions with a commercial litigation funder to pay for the case, with a deal expected in weeks after conditions about the number of participants are satisfied.

Meanwhile, Andrew was concerned she wouldn’t want to commit long-term. “She goes to some wacky tantra retreats,” he says. “Three months after we met, she told me she was going to an intensive retreat in New Zealand and I was worried – it seemed a bit like a cult to me. We were also in an open relationship, which I wasn’t sure about at first.”

Although they have maintained an open relationship, they engage only with people from Susie’s close-knit tantra community. “It’s ‘monogamish’,” she explains. “‘Open relationship’ is a big term. We are primarily monogamous and occasionally open with a handful of trusted people.”

Susie moved to Sydney to be with Andrew in 2019. She retrained and started a new career as a relationship and intimacy coach. They got engaged in April and plan to marry at a sailing club in Sydney next year.

As I said, I lost the post last night dealing with Uncle Fester torturing the snowfall chart. This will be brief.

Fester put up a chart indicating snowfall for particular regions going back to 1970, but (conveniently) used the final 25 years. He suggested to Fatboy that there had been no change in snow pattern over that period. Here’s the problem, which I believe is a dishonest misuse of the chart. Fester reckoned that for last 25 years of the 50 year chart, snowfall had flat-lined. It most certainly had flat-lined at the lower end of the of the chart scale. It flat-lined well below first 25 year drop and appears to have remained that way. To ignore that is either willfully dishonest or just simply stupid. You can ask Fester which option he’d accept as a characterization of this new abortion of his. He’s Titius’ed 3.10 me so he won’t answer.

This is like owning a stock for 10 years. In the first 5 years the stock averages 100 bucks a share and then in the remaining 5 years it averages 50 bucks. Using Fester’s logic the stockholder should be happy the stock has only flat-lined in the past 5 years. The Fuck!
