The ACCC approved the $18.7 billion bid for Origin by Brookfield (jointly with Mid Ocean Energy which will take Origin’s LNG business).
It had been won over by Brookfield’s plan of $30 billion Australian investment in 13.7GW of wind, solar and storage within a decade of its purchase, compared with Origin’s prior plan for 4GW. Origin seems to have retained its plan to close the giant Eraring coal plant in August, 2025.
