This journo has got Twiggy’s number
Joe Aston of the Fin Review has written two killer articles on Twiggy Forest in recent times. On Sunday he wrote an account of the meeting last week when Fortescue reported their interim earnings.
On Aston’s account there was a disturbing lack of connection with people who wanted to know more about what is going on in the Twiggy empire.
There was no real engagement going on here at all. This is a dance by Twiggy, a performance, demonstrated perfectly by the complete lack of verifiable detail in any of Fortescue’s answers.
Instead of information he referred to a mysterious membrane that was a technological breakthrough for the firm. There you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Much like the nanotube in the Elizabeth Holmes magical blood machines, the membrane will change the world – The membrane is Forrest’s secret sauce, like Hamish Douglass ‘downside protection™’.More likely, Forrest is insane in the membrane…There is quite clearly nobody kicking Forrest under the table any more.
The article that he wrote in September last year is a lot of fun as well!
It’d be nice to have so much money you didnt need to be smart anymore … though I guess it might hurt a little when people sniggered.
Joe does alright with Mike Cannon-Brookes as well.
Joe Aston has always been a straight shooter who isn’t afraid of calling out the bullshit.
One of the few in journalism.
Twiggy is milking the zeitgeist (the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time) as well as a few subsidies.
2.9mill hectares but only legally allowed 500k hectares.
Not ridiculing success, just the manipulation of the rules and the relationship building that’s always required to do it.
As to world peace and the inner glow that supposedly comes with it; I think Joe’s already told him he’s dreaming.
Twiggy is seen by some as the White Knight to rescue Rugby Australia from its money troubles.
He may have the cash to do so but appears to bring a lot of baggage to the table also.
I hope RA does deep due diligence before they consider using Twiggy’s cash.
As long as he keeps shoveling Iron ore royalty money into McClowns golden codpiece he will get everything he wants.
Barriers to entry for plebs mysteriously are pre-removed from his enormous magnitude.
About as likely as recruiting Santa to be RA board chairman
FMG shareholders beware
Twiggy is just the latest in a long line of WA “entrepreneurs” since the first Poms arrived here on the make. He is reaping untold rewards having ignored all the advice to issue more equity in FMG along the way. He has fingers in so many pies it’s not funny. Many (most?) will fail. As with Holmes a Court, any minority shareholders still along for the ride can hardly say they didn’t know what they were getting into.
FMG shareholders beware
He owns over 30%.
He’s never sold a share.
He also has not claimed tax deductions when seeding his NFP’s.
Criticise him all you want, but he has genuine skin in the game.
Kerry Stokes, who owns Seven West Media, has got Twiggy’s measure – and old Twiggy doesn’t like it one bit!
Aston is saucy But selective. Quite often skewers big egos. But never some quite obvious candidates like the man whose mansions and yachts he frequents. (He is so often on the boat they call him Gilligan). I gather he also attended a drug rehab facility used by the same mogul.
