Capt. Savige won his DSO in Azerbaijan whilst fighting Iranians, which rivals Lt. Cutler* who won his VC fighting the French. Interesting how Aussies have ended up in far distant fights at times.

Following the capture of Urmia by the Turks, Savige discovered tens of thousands of fleeing Assyrian refugees. He deployed a small group of volunteers from his own force, along with refugees, to form a rearguard to hold back the Persians and Kurds who were murdering the refugees and carrying off the young girls as slaves.[29][30] Official Historian Charles Bean later wrote that:

The stand made by Savige and his eight companions that evening and during half of the next day against hundreds of the enemy thirsting like wolves to get at the defenceless throng was as fine as any episode known to the present writer in the history of this war.[29]

Savige was subsequently decorated with the Distinguished Service Order for his efforts on this occasion.[31]

Re the welding, it’s likely that the PM did weld a little, many years ago before automatic helmets, if that’s so then less experienced welders would start the arc with the helmet raised to ensure they were in the right spot, the drop the visor. The dumb thing is that he tried to do it with the media and cameras around. If you aren’t certain you can pull something off then you shouldn’t try it on national TV. He’s a goose.

Needless to say, it’s the brightest spark he’s been near for a long time.

Bill From the Bush,
GreyRanga,
Razey,

Thanks all for your insights.

In summary, one shouldn’t expect similar P/W ratios because the industrial engines were not optimised for that metric, the long service life at high load was a key difference in design requirements for Cat (etc), and if there were a construction and agriculture equivalent to Jeremy Clarkson he would be pushed back in his seat yelling TORRRRRQUE.

My only quibble/skepticism about the torque requirement was that mostly these machines use hydraulic transmissions, not direct drive like a car, so why would engine torque be important? For hydraulic cylinders it may need high power at a low flow rate, which a swashplate pump can do with a low plate angle and medium torque and high speed. But this quibble was short-lived as I realised I don’t know what flow rate limits they may have in the pipe bends, and the engine may be designed for a variety of uses including direct drive, and so for various possible reasons a high torque may be needed. That requires pistons to be physically further offset from the crank to get a higher crank angle, and have higher travel, so making the whole outline larger.

Those saying “we didn’t know how bad the virus was so we can’t be blamed for supporting lockdowns early on” are actually saying that the next time a virus taken from a sick person is sequenced for the first time then it’s ok for the government to put us through this all over again.

I look at the size of the whole engine fitting snugly in this standard engine bay, and I can’t help but wonder why the turbo Diesels in large bulldozers with the same nominal power seem to be over 50% larger (and therefore 3.3x+ the mass). To my untrained eye this Ford F6 engine must have had a power/weight ratio of something like 2 kW/kg. Compare this to the specs for a Cat C18 which on paper (barebones, no exhaust treatment included) is 597kW for 1717kg or a mere 0.35kW/kg.

A dozer has a massive amount of torque going to the drives, what most people don’t realise is that (for example) dozers are designed to operate at max revs, the main pedal isn’t to increase revs to the engine it’s to decrease revs, they are designed to go full tilt to push dirt.

Ditto any diesel engine intended for heavy motive power work (e.g. ship engines) or electrical generation (stationary or locomotive purposes).

They are always designed to work under load, and you increase the power output (through torque converters, electrical load meters controlling governors, etc.) relative to the resistance encountered.

Researchers found that, on average, women rated men with higher levels of NK (natural killer) cells as more attractive. These cells play a key role in fighting off and killing bacteria.

Men, on the other hand, found women with lower NK cell levels in their blood more attractive.

He’s a dribbling mess because every day his scoffing is being shown for the absolute ignorance and denialism it is. Every day. Now the Canadians and the Kiwis are doing exactly the same as Australian police, the Europeans….. all proven WEF operatives doing it…so you can’t seriously deny this any longer without now expecting to be laughed at yourselves. It’s just that I’m not laughing. I find it a cop out after all this time, because people on this site should know better.

Elsewhere in the weird world of today:

It seems we have finally passed through the looking glass.

Forget believing six impossible things before breakfast, as the White Queen said to Alice; nowadays we must believe whatever nonsense the woke supremacists want us to believe, no matter how scientifically inaccurate or, for that matter, unfair it may be. Or else suffer the consequences.

On Friday night, Lia Thomas, a transgender woman athlete, set a record for the 200-yard freestyle race in the Ivy League university swimming championships in the US, beating her closest opponent by half a pool length.

Her win was widely praised as a victory for women’s sport as Thomas, who until 2019 was competing – with notably less success – in the male category, took to the podium to claim her prize.

Alongside her, somewhat dwarfed by her broad shoulders and imposing stature, her defeated opponents smiled and applauded in the approved manner, as though the entire thing were completely normal.

No mention of the fact that they had just been bested by someone with an inherent set of physical advantages: muscle mass, speed, size.

No acknowledgement of the fact that, in reality, they never stood a chance against someone such as Thomas.

Just smile and nod and take it on the chin, girls, and don’t you dare complain. And frankly, who can blame them?

In the current climate of terror created by extreme trans activism, what choice do they have? What choice, for that matter, does any of us have?

In the context of trans ideology, this means total and complete acceptance of anyone who self-defines as female, regardless of the impact upon other females around them. Biological sex doesn’t exist, and anyone who dares to question the wisdom of, say, placing vulnerable women in hospitals or prisons alongside individuals who were born males, risks obliteration.

Check out the shoulders on the gal!

Yeah possibly, but it is a compounding effect. The artificial spike factory wouldn’t do as much damage if it stayed inside the muscle tissue. When you accidentally put it into a blood vessel and send it all over the place, strange and weird side-effects all over the body become more likely.
Accidental vein jabs from poorly trained ring-ins at the mass vaccination jabbatoirs could easily be a big contributing factor to the (relatively) small number of side-effects seen in the medium term thus far.

something Henry Miller could have written

Miller is light years better than the Maple-Leafed muff merchant.

Orwell on Miller:

…. When I first opened Tropic of Cancer and saw that it was full of unprintable words, my immediate reaction was a refusal to be impressed. Most people’s would be the same, I believe. Nevertheless, after a lapse of time the atmosphere of the book, besides innumerable details, seemed to linger in my memory in a peculiar way. A year later Miller’s second book, Black Spring, was published. By this time? Tropic of Cancer was much more vividly present in my mind than it had been when I first read it.

My first feeling about Black Spring was that it showed a falling-off, and it is a fact that it has not the same unity as the other book. Yet after another year there were many passages in Black Spring that had also rooted themselves in my memory. Evidently these books are of the sort to leave a flavour behind them—books that ‘create a world of their own’, as the saying goes. The books that do this are not necessarily good books, they may be good bad books like Raffles or the Sherlock Holmes stories, or perverse and morbid books like Wuthering Heights or The House with the Green Shutters. But now and again there appears a novel which opens up a new world not by revealing what is strange, but by revealing what is familiar….

Get a load of this- from the Speccie. The deadshit Jimmy Carter involved again…

Conservatives are finally wising up about the legacy media. That’s one takeaway from a revealing recent clash between feisty Trump Republican and media veteran, Kari Lake, who is running for governor of Arizona, and 60 Minutes Australia stalwart Liam Bartlett, which descends into name-calling after some robust jousting about US election fraud, January 6 and Trump himself.

That it redounds to the poised Lake’s credit may be inferred from the fact that, contrary to some reports, the 25 minutes of footage was not leaked, but released by Lake, whose husband taped the interview. Smart move, and a pre-emptive strike against any misleading edits.

A clash of worldviews emerges, when Bartlett insists that there’s no evidence of election fraud in Biden’s 2020 win; he is incredulous at Lake’s claim that there is corruption among election officials, the judicial process and some Republicans. This is a common opinion, with most Australians unable to believe that the US election system might be shot through with chicanery and fraud. People here trust our election machinery, and assume, mistakenly, that the US is similarly fair.

To those of this opinion, I offer two words and an astonishing tale as a corrective: Dickinson Debevoise. He was a racial justice activist and New Jersey judge who in 1982 handed down what became known as the ‘Consent Decree’. Modified, expanded and protected by Debevoise, it barred the Republican National Committee from fighting suspected voter fraud in election day operations across the US for 36 years. Yes, you read that right. For nearly 40 years the RNC and its agents were ‘prohibited by law from helping out with poll watcher efforts or nearly any litigation related to how voting is conducted,’ as Mollie Hemingway says in her book Rigged. Multiple court challenges failed to dislodge the decree, and its influence permeated down through state bodies, effectively paralysing the GOP’s political work on election days. The RNC trained its staff to avoid election day operations, including recounts, for fear of lawsuits.

The case arose out of a 1981 Democrat party lawsuit against GOP officials over alleged black and Hispanic voter intimidation in a New Jersey gubernatorial election, after off-duty sheriffs and police, some with guns, had turned up at polling places. Party officials settled with the consent decree, which limited the GOP’s – but not the Democrats’ – capacity to conduct ‘any ballot security activities… where the racial or ethnic composition… is a factor’. What the Left saw as voter intimidation, the Right deemed voter integrity. If America’s original sin is slavery, race continues to distort the rules of the Republic.

It wasn’t until after Debevoise died in 2015 that the GOP escaped the decree, in 2018. In the final court case in 2017, Trump spokesman and ex-RNC official Sean Spicer testified: ‘It had been abundantly clear for the six years that I worked at the RNC that the RNC and its employees were prohibited from engaging in Election Day activities, including poll watching…’.

Poll watching is what we know as scrutineering. I had always been puzzled by 2020 US election footage showing authorized GOP poll watchers being kept out of tally rooms, or being ejected once in, or being corralled into corners where they could see nothing. How was this allowed to happen? In Australia lawyers are always on hand for instances of election day law breaches, such as bullying by overenthusiastic volunteers, signage violations and destruction, etc. – trivial matters compared with nobbling scrutineers.

The Debevoise decree effectively gave Democrats carte blanche to organise and institutionalise their election day activities, secure in the knowledge their opponent had been cowed. If you think the Left didn’t use this extraordinary and decades-long opportunity to stack the decks electorally then I’ve got a bridge to sell you. This helps explain why, on election day 2020 Democrat operatives ran rings around the GOP who, with no corporate culture or muscle memory, were mere novices trying to play their first polling day role for 36 years.

Such a biased playing field is unthinkable here, and even many Americans are unaware of the powerful institutional advantage the consent decree created – anything that’s been the law for 36 years fades into the background and out of people’s awareness.

Which is not to say that all elections are unfair in the US. There’s enormous state variation, with some, such as Pennsylvania, virtual synonyms for fraud (a PA elections judge pleaded guilty to bribery charges in 2020) and others, such as Florida, spurred by the notorious Bush v. Gore hanging chads election of 2000, now seeming clean and efficient. But if any election involves some fraud, then US elections certainly involve a lot of fraud; some Third World elections are probably cleaner.

Trump is often credited with exposing the rot of US elites, and this includes elections. Grindingly slow efforts are now underway towards voter integrity. In January 2022 the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court ruled that 2.5 million ‘no-excuse’ mail-in votes – which cut four to one for Biden – were unconstitutional. Conservative film-maker Dinesh D’Souza’s new film 2000 Mules uses a voter integrity group’s deep dive into commercial geo-tracking cell phone data to follow 2,000 ‘mules’ stuffing bunches of ballots into multiple dropboxes in key states like Georgia. One ‘mule’ made 53 such trips, snapping photos each time to get paid. Arizona GOP Rep. Mark Finchem has introduced a resolution calling for the decertification of results in three counties, in one of which, Maricopa, some 740,000 votes reportedly have no chain of custody and cannot be authenticated. And there’s a raft of GOP initiatives to undo the Covid-linked electoral changes that allowed the trebling of fraud-prone mail-in and absentee ballots between the 2016 and 2020 elections. Nor are the Democrats standing still. A Democrat congressional push to federalise election laws which at present lie with the states failed in January, with two Democrats defecting.

It is a happy tell that reporters like Bartlett, operating from the security of a much better run Australia, cannot comprehend the degree of rot within the US, nor the bare-knuckle ferocity and winner-takes-all approach. But that doesn’t excuse his rude and patronising questions, nor evident assumption that he knows better than concerned locals.

I don’t have a problem with this:

It’s the biggest question in modern email etiquette. Should you add your pronouns – he/him, she/her, they/them; ze/hir or one of an increasing number of expressions of gender identity – beside your name in your email signature, indicating how you wish to be referred to by colleagues or clients? And is this a move towards greater inclusivity, or one that excludes people with different views?

My title is Obersturmführer, which can of course be any gender. It’s surprising though, how many people don’t like it.

As of this weekend she starts final chemo round hoping to stay alive long enough for birth second grandchild in mid-April. Managed to get all three adult children with their partners out of Victoria to rural NSW, all living very close to share her care. Amazing she is still alive given the times.

Accidental vein jabs from poorly trained ring-ins at the mass vaccination jabbatoirs could easily be a big contributing factor to the (relatively) small number of side-effects seen in the medium term thus far.

Interesting observation, Colonel. I have thought the same thing – out of my daughter’s family, my granddaughter was the only one to have an reaction (bleeding in upper gastro tract). Her mother took her (inexplicably) to the mass jab centre at the stadium in Homebush. The rest of the family were attended to in their GP’s surgery.

Even so, you have probably seen the studies in which specific batches have been traced to severe reactions.

Democrats Want Changes At The White House, Including Getting Rid Of Top Staffers, Report
https://conservativebrief.com/democrats-changes-60237/?utm_source=CB&utm_medium=SG

The administration of President Joe Biden has been doing such a dismal job apparently even Democrats want to see changes.

They want to either see a new plan of action by this White House or they want to see new staffers around the president, considering the lack of accomplishments of the administration, Breitbart reported.

[WARNING! Swallow anything you’re eating or drinking before reading the following.]

Biden’s the star quarterback, and you can’t fire the star quarterback, so you start looking at the head coach and the offensive coordinator and the defensive coordinator,” the congressperson said. “Fairly or unfairly in a situation like this, you start looking at the person who is in the chief of staff position.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Invoked Emergency Act to Charge Leaders of Protest Group with “Mischief”
February 20, 2022 | sundance | 18 Comments [& image]
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2022/02/20/canadian-prime-minister-justin-trudeau-invoked-emergency-act-to-charge-leaders-of-protest-group-with-mischief/

The need for control is a reaction to fear. What does the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau fear so much that he invoked the first ever declaration of the Emergency War Measures Act? A group of middle class Canadians who challenged him. That’s it. That’s the sum total of the Trudeau justification.

Need proof? Well, here’s the lead organizer of the Trucker rebellion, Tamara Lich, who triggered the declaration of a national emergency and invocation of the federal Emergency Act. What heinous crime against the state was she charged with? “Counseling to Commit the Offense of Mischief“.

Think about it.

BREAKING: Conservative reporters beaten and shot by Ottawa police with gas canister gun
Rebel News is suing Ottawa police after a female reporter said she was beaten with police clubs and shot with a tear gas canister.

FREEDOM, POLITICS – CANADA
JOHN-HENRY WESTEN • FEB 19, 2022

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Rebel News director Ezra Levant tweeted this morning with video evidence that a female reporter from the conservative news outlet on the ground in Ottawa was “assaulted by Trudeau’s police.” Video evidence shows Alexa Lavoie wailing in pain after she reports being beaten by police clubs and shot in the leg with a tear gas canister at point-blank range. The firing of the canister at close range was caught by photographers.

Levant reports, “Alexa says she was specifically targeted by a cop who saw her camera. She says he came up to her and beat her and pushed her down. She says he tried to knock the phone out of her hands, to stop her from filming.”

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the term “White Russian” described ethnic Russians living in the area between Russia and Poland (today this includes Lithuania, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia and Moldova).

However, by the 1920s the term was more commonly used for Russians who’d opposed the Bolshevik Revolution and supported the imperial government. More specifically, it meant those who fought against the Soviet Red Army in the Russian Civil War.

Thus from the 1920’s on a White Russian was a political refugee from the former Russia. In other words, the opposite of a Red Russian.

Dr. David Martin Exposes Why Trudeau Won’t Back Down
[…]
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, where he stated “Normality as it was before will not come back full-on until we get a vaccine for this.”

With no evidence that a vaccine has ever been successful since Pfizer’s first Coronavirus spike protein vaccine patented in 1990, this statement was unfounded. What Trudeau didn’t tell his Canadian constituents or the world was that Canada controlled the mRNA vaccine platform and was destined to become enriched by both Moderna and Pfizer’s partnership with BioNTech.

Trudeau knew that the gene therapy being promoted as a “vaccine” was an economic win for Canada and therefore Trudeau’s Canada had the monopoly on the world’s adoption of mRNA gene therapy shots. He wasn’t promoting science, he was promoting the Canadian economic interest in the gene therapy illegally promoted as a vaccine.

“Canada has a bad history of this,” Dr. David Martin told Stew Peters. “We’ve had our Kent States, and we’ve had our situations when the legal and then military actions taken against citizens end very badly.”

Neil Oliver, People Should Not Fear Government – Do Not Forget WHY the Canadian Truckers Were Protesting, Justin Trudeau Wants You to Forget
February 19, 2022 | sundance | 203 Comments

Neil Oliver delivers his remarks this weekend against the background of oppressive government on display in Canada.

The issues around the vaccines that Oliver notes are at the heart of what the Canadian truckers were protesting. Yet, those original grievances have been lost, intentionally lost and buried by the government of Justin Trudeau, because the Canadian government finds it less of a risk to trigger a national emergency act declaration than discuss the issues around forced vaccination. Think about that carefully.

As common in his monologues, Oliver outlines the baseline issue, lost in the shadows of the national emergency declaration, and eloquently drags it back into the spotlight. This is exceptionally well done. I appreciate the way Oliver can eloquently frame his argument, build it to the key takeaway – the central point, and then hit it hard at the end. WATCH:

Could be, since people from Mainland China have their first loyalty to China, irrespective of the Government there.
While the ALP own the heavily Chinese seats, there are a few pick ups to be had.
The problem Labor has is they take their Aussie Seats for granted and chase after the Coalition of The Fringes, while Scotty works with what he’s got.
And what he’s got is Aussie voters seeing the serial fuckup the CFMEU Governments in Qld, Victoria and Western Australia have made and thinking to themselves

We’re not voting for you to do that to Australia

Can’t beat the Tele though. Boy have they plummeted leftwards or what? This article has been on the main page for several days now:

Why taxing unearned wealth is not a bad thing (DT, paywalled)

Neither side of politics appears to have a plan to pay off the mountain of debt run up over the past two years so slugging unearned wealth might be a good place to start if we are serious about fixing our budget, writes James Campbell.

I have no idea who James Campbell is but he seems to like the idea of stealing money from the thrifty.

I hope Albo doesn’t bring in an unrealized capital gains tax. I like living here and I’d hate to have to flee to somewhere less fascist. But for the supposedly righty Tele to carry a lump of verbal swill of this festering magnitude is pretty gross.

Yeah, that’s all shopfitters and most carpenters, apart from formworkers cutting sheets of ply, use anymore.
Nowhere near the power of a saw run off the mains, but unless you’re cutting hardwood all day, that much power isn’t necessary.
They make up to 12 Amp batteries now, those things have a lot of guts

Yeah… Nah.

Much like our very own resident Tin Hero, the Almighty Speaker of Struth, Justin Trudeau is all about the Front and the Swagger. It’s all he has as a person and as a political identity.

He can never back down from, compromise with or even entertain the presence of anyone he has decided (and repeatedly publicly declared) is beneath him. That would suggest he got something wrong, and he is never wrong. Not on nuffink!

So, evermore ridiculously hubristic and impossible positions and labels will be applied to his ever-growing list of ‘targets’ and ‘enemies,’ while approaching an inevitable point of irrecoverable public collapse and humiliation.

This is the fate of all such Stunning and Brave public behaviour. It would be pitiable if it were not utterly contemptible.

Dick Ed seems to have lost interest in White Russia and Australians in North Russia after WW I.

That’s a terrible shame, as the actions of the UK and Commonwealth troops around Murmansk is little-known yet incredible. Not helped by the terrible lack of co-ordination amongst the White Russian military forces and the Bolsheviks’ fanatical determination.

I once told the story on this Cat of a dear gentleman I had the pleasure of meeting as a young man, whose father had been the Surgeon of a Royal Naval Air Service armoured car squadron.

During the course of their campaign, the supply situation became so serious that all the Officers were directed to sharpen their dress swords, as ammunition was about to run out and the fighting get personal.

He inherited that sword from his father, and gave his dress uniform tailor tbe shock of his life some forty years later when he nearly cut his fingers to the bone while inspecting it.

That blade still had its edge another fifty years after that.
