In 536 a major volcanic explosion in Java caused a nuclear winter throughout much of the world. Records show that sun-gods died, as they do when they play up, throughout many cultures. A similar explosion in the 1400’s bc was a likely cause of the Red Sea changes and plagues of various sorts, including insect ones, in Egypt around that period.
I try not to think about the various super-volcanos around the world and how they could flare up – for example, Taupo in New Zealand, and Yellowstone in the US. Hairy wants to drive through Yellowstone but I keep finding reasons not to; it’s don’t mention the super volcano, and somehow I knock it off the agenda whenever it appears. In Chile we drove through an area where the debris from two volcanos adjacent to each other still layered the vegetation and roads. One not happy Lizzie, only comforted by the thought that at least it had already gone off.
Earthquakes are another not like. I’ve been in a few smallish ones and wouldn’t enjoy being in a biggish one at all.
Basically the new charges against Trump are for holding the opinion that the 2020 election was rigged. In respect of the Jan 6th get together the FBI had already investigated this and found:
“scant evidence” that the riot was an organized plot to overturn the official results of the presidential election.
We know there was FBI involvement at Jan 6th, that all deaths were of protestors and by comparison the Brett Kavanagh confirmation protests, in the same buildings, and the George Floyd/antifa/BLM riots were much worse, damaging and a threat to national security.

Joe Biden to ask Congress to fund Taiwan arms via Ukraine budget
White House request designed to speed up weapons transfers to Taipei amid rising threat from China
The White House will ask Congress to fund arms for Taiwan as part of a supplemental budget request for Ukraine, in an effort to speed up the supply of weapons to the country amid the rising threat from China.
The Office of Management and Budget will include funding for Taiwan in the supplemental request as part of an effort to accelerate the provision of weapons, according to two people familiar with the plan.
If passed by Congress, Taiwan would get arms through a US taxpayer-funded system known as “foreign military financing” for the first time. The White House is expected to submit the request this month.
The request comes on the heels of a White House announcement that the US would supply Taiwan with $345mn in weapons from stockpiles for the first time, under a system known as “presidential drawdown authority” that has been used to send weapons to Ukraine.
The decision to include Taiwan funding in the supplemental budget and use PDA to supply weapons underscores a rising urgency to help Taipei. Critics of the current Taiwan strategy have urged Washington to supply weapons more quickly as China increases military activity around the country.
“This would be a monumental step that signals how far the US government is now willing to go to accelerate deterrence across the Taiwan Strait,” said Eric Sayers, managing director at Beacon Global Strategies, a Washington consultancy.
“For decades we have chosen to only sell Taiwan military equipment but now?.?.?.?we are seeing both the tools of drawdown authority and foreign military financing be deployed, just as they have been so successful in Ukraine,” Sayers added.
According to the US-Taiwan Business Council, a pro-Taiwan lobby group, Taipei is still awaiting delivery of $23bn worth of weapon sales, including harpoon missiles and surveillance drones, that were approved by successive US administrations. Some sales were announced more than five years ago. US military commanders have frequently expressed frustration with the slow transfer of weapons to Taiwan to enhance its security.
The White House declined to comment or reveal details about how much money would be requested for Taiwan.
The eventual congressional vote on the supplemental budget — which will focus predominantly on new military assistance for Ukraine — will be the first test of support for Kyiv in the current Congress.
A group of far-right House Republicans recently sought and failed to use the annual defence bill to restrict US support for Ukraine, a sign that even a small group of lawmakers could imperil or delay future assistance.
Packaging support for Taiwan, which has very strong bipartisan support in Congress, into the Ukraine budget may help the administration and pro-Kyiv Republicans win over members who might otherwise be opposed.
“Adding supplemental funding for Taiwan will put some House Republicans in a more difficult position since many who oppose Ukraine funding remain in favour of supporting Taiwan,” said Zack Cooper, an Asia security expert at the American Enterprise Institute think-tank.
Last year, Congress passed legislation approving $10bn in “foreign military financing” for Taiwan over five years. It would have been the first time that US taxpayers would fund weapons for Taiwan. But the congressional appropriation bill did not authorise the FMF funding.
“Observers are watching closely to see if Congress can put its money where its mouth is this year,” added Cooper. “The supplemental is arguably the best chance to do so.”
The Chinese embassy in Washington said China “firmly opposed US military ties with, and arms provision, to Taiwan”, over which Beijing claims sovereignty. It called on Washington to “stop posing risks to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.”

Every attack like this on Trump simply adds to his support base. I don’t see this as being any sort of false flag operation to get Trump as the candidate because he’s unelectable. He’s clearly well on the money right now and I hope he stays that way.
After all that has gone on, and the total loss of the rule of law under the Democrats (just look at Biden!), it may be that the only way out for America is to vote Trump back in. Perhaps even Democrats will come to see this as a medicine that has to be taken.
I just hope that President Trump can stay the distance till 2024, safely.

I am not familiar with the author.
I do not wish to detail any of it here but it is there for any interested at the NCR link above.
I believe Pence was in a very difficult spot at the very end and I have sympathy for both their positions. Trump believed and believes to this day that the election was stolen. Pence wanted to see some evidence this was so in order not to accept the elector ballots, but it wasn’t available other than the strongest suspicions. Pence felt, that he just couldn’t prevent the Republic from moving ahead without a shred of evidence.
Other than this, Pence was a decent and loyal VP. He’s not presidential material but that’s another story.
Blame the system that couldn’t be audited, not Pence.
I blame Pence because he has been totally disloyal to the man who gave him the opportunity to be VP. He can get fuked.

While we were away my sweet fifty-year-old man-child, as his sometime ex-partner and mother of his (also) autistic son calls him, purchased two books for me in a second-hand shop, one of those he regularly haunts. One book is an interesting hardcover, published fifty years ago on Roman Towns and thus more than a little out-of-date, but still of interest. The other is a simple school primer ‘A New French Course’, from long ago. I wonder why he thinks I need it. I am idly reading Lecon 15, La Ferme de L’Oncle Andre. It’s a fascinating read.
I’ve beefed it up a bit at the end because it really is terminally boring stuff.
Your confidence in Pence is heartening. I’m just a bit jaded tonight.
Just went out and looked at the moon to clear the cobwebs and was reminded of that scene in “The Dish” when they were wondering where to point the thing.

No, that’s okay. I just think that Pence was unfairly treated. He couldn’t do what Trump expected of him with nothing other than suspicions, which I believe was well founded but had not been proven. Sometimes it’s just a shit situation all around.
Quite. The ability to pick the Path of Least Shit is a talent that I have yet to acquire.

I’m inclined to agree. In fact, for the whole of Orange Man’s turbulent presidency (and turbulent it was, in a good way), Pence stayed loyal, and he was always the measured, solid, and tranquil one near Trump. In a sense, Pence provided Trump with stability.

Cool it with the anti volcanic globalist boiling catastrophe talk.
“Nearer 1600 BC if you’re talking about the Thera eruption, Lizzie. Probably related to the Atlantis legend and the fall of the Minoan civilisation. It was a biggie.”
I think the biggest eruption in human pre-history happened 78,000 years ago…
“The Toba eruption (sometimes called the Toba supereruption or the Youngest Toba eruption) was a supervolcano eruption that occurred around 74,000 years ago at the site of present-day Lake Toba in Sumatra, Indonesia. It is one of Earth’s largest known explosive eruptions. The Toba catastrophe theory holds that this event caused a severe global volcanic winter of six to ten years and contributed to a 1,000-year-long cooling episode, leading to a genetic bottleneck in humans.

WTF, advised what, to whom? Trump? He did! He told Trump he had no evidence to prevent the vote and wasn’t going to refuse not to call he electors. We still do not have solid evidence that could be used in a court. Just very strong suspicions. He certainly had none then.

We are booked to visit Akrotiri on Santorini, excavated from the volcanic ruins like Pompeii and Herculaneum were from Vesuvius many centuries later. The people, sharing a basic Minoan culture in this tradeways island, enjoying that same peaceful Cretan high culture you can see in spades in Crete’s Heraklion museum, had already fled when the volcano blew, but plenty of pots and other things were left behind. When I visited Santorini some years ago they were still excavating. On our September/October cruise we will get a chance to see it all on one of the tours. Looking forward to it very much.
What’s not to like about ancient history and the lives of all the aeons who have gone before us? Our time here is short, just as theirs was, but the cultures linger on.

As you enter Santorini you are in a gouged out cauldera. You find out later that there were numerous major eruptions to have caused that major chasm. So yes, 1600 is one date, 1400’s is another.

I prefer the Mt. Toba eruptions at 74,000 years ago. In an anthropology forum I suggested it might account for the mtDNA constriction that points to a huge drop in human population numbers. Anthropologists laughed at my idea. Six months later that argument was published and since then the debate rages on. It is still undecided if Mt. Toba did account for the constriction point but there is little doubt that the human population did undergo a crash. That’s what I like about paleoanthropology, the evidence for human evolution is so scant we can create arguments that support our preconceptions. Paleoanthropology is fun, perhaps because it is fuzzy.

at 78 knees are Crap – used walking stick on trip in May/June to Italy/Switzerland/Germany – great on boarding aircraft but not good walking need to stop and relax – unable to stand in one spot as bluntly crippled – have to keep moving
Saw Sports Specialist about 10 years ago recommended by SIL who was Physio GWS – said I can take $10K off you to try and fix, but if you are not having steroid injections in knees every 3 months and not taking painkillers, then don’t bother
Only need walking stick/leki poles for going down hill – uphill ok, and I can haul myself up stairs with railing and come down stairs sideways
Usually don’t use walking stick
After 4 minor Ops & 1 Major Op over last 2 years with minor day surgery cutting SCC out coming up in 2 weeks – prefer to avoid knee surgery and keep limping along
Would be useless at rehab – slack as they come

Here’s the REAL question that must be asked – has the temperature actually risen? And what are the baseline figures and their accuracy?
I don’t think that with the corruption of the official record over the real, anyone knows anymore.
The place copped a flogging.

Sort of like a monorchid?

(box ticked) 🙂
Pretty amazing footage.
And to this day some people will swear the towers were brought down using controlled demolition.
Btw Duo-Einstein, there’s 4 people discussing tea, that is a quartet.
What. a. faceplant. 🙂
Very lady-like, Ghisliaine.
Dumgold’s gone. From The Oz…
ACT chief prosecutor Shane Drumgold knowingly lied to the Supreme Court, engaged in serious malpractice and grossly unethical conduct, “preyed on a junior lawyer’s inexperience”, betrayed that junior lawyer who trusted him, and treated criminal litigation as “a poker game in which a prosecutor can hide the cards,” the Sofronoff Inquiry has found.
In findings that are certain to end Mr Drumgold’s career as ACT Director of Public Prosecutions and may lead to criminal prosecution against him for perverting the course of justice, inquiry head Walter Sofronoff KC ruled that every one of the allegations made by Mr Drumgold that sparked the inquiry was baseless.”
Hey Calli,
the Golden Gunpowder sounds interesting. Where would I buy some?
I have an excellent Chocolate Tea. A naturopath friend makes a blend of Black Tea, a few odd herbs and Cocoa Nibs. Spectacular.
Tonto begins to exhibit some self-awareness.
Commendable.
Why do the words “Good Riddance” suggest themselves?
Meanwhile, the biggest handbag on the blog is talking teas with Ghissa while joining up for a stoush.
Pretty soon, he’s going to start calling her lovely lady. That’s where it’s heading.
Cassie,
excellent news re Dumgold.
The Oz headline is..
Damning report reveals trial treachery of lying Drumgold
The ACT chief prosecutor lied to the Supreme Court, engaged in serious malpractice and grossly unethical conduct and broke the ‘golden rule’ in the Higgins-Lehrmann rape case.
I wonder when Rent Boy is going to ride in to tag team with his Master?
After certifying Biden’s win Pence bumped elbows with Nancy Pelosi, fist bumps were out due to covid. That is not the action of a decent person, it is gloating by an enemy. A decent person could have certified the election and then just walked off but he did not do that.
Trump chose him as his VP because he was forced to do it by the Republican establishment.
Drumgold will be lucky to defending drunk and disorderly cases in East Bullamakanka.
And Driller’s rent girl is already here.
But don’t let anyone disturb you two lovebirds. We need to get to the “Lovely Lady” thing before the end of the evening.
I think Cassie meant Dumgold is “Dead Man Walking”.
He’s not strapped in the chair yet.
Jeez, that’s strong.
Guessing the 3 million dashed over to the Brit was well spent.
Next up, Bruce will deservedly get his cut too.
It’s a rolled China tea, Pogria. I bought the last of it from Pine Teas in Castle Hill. They only sell the black gunpowder now.
There are other Aussie sellers perhaps. It’s a typical robust China tea. If I want something lighter, I choose Darjeeling. It’s all a matter of taste.
‘scuse me.
It’s “luverleee ladeee”.
Aref:
That’s incredible. Do you mind giving us a breakdown?
Mine was $95.78 for last month. And that was for several nights with aircon RC heating in a bedroom, and about 8 loads of drying by tumble dryer. No gas, all electrical. And I just leave the computers – 1 laptop/ 1 desktop running when I’m not using them. Dishwasher on hot cycle every couple of days.
Average daily bill $0.93 Usage 8.15 k/Whr
A solar panel setup which only credits $39.78 over the month…
I’d have a fit if I got a bill like yours.
Your tears are so delicious. 🙂
My ritual on arriving at my hotel in HK was to get a pot of jasmine tea brought up.
Delightful.
Who is “Driller”? Who is “rent girl”?
Surely this isn’t a self-reference to Tonto & his Groan Arranger?
May as well just pluck a couple of geraniums from a garden box in the lobby & throw them in the jug before boiling it.
Lol, oh yea. I’ve never understood the put down from scrubbers referencing having no testicles, (in this case just one) or having a small penis. I think that former Greens scrubber tried that on at the Melbourne night club.
Well, tea is the leaves of the camellia. So brewing geraniums is close.
I wouldn’t recommend drinking it though.
This Drumgold chap seems to be in a spot of bother.
By that I mean he’ll retire on with a monster retirement package safe in the knowledge that the DPP (or whatever the ACT calls it) wouldn’t even think of pursuing him.
Teas, not tears!
Dumgold ain’t gone until he’s gone.
Charging Overland over Lawyer X looked like a slam-dunk, but he slipped the net.
Why?
Because he knows stuff about political connections. Not necessarily directly related to Gobbo, but something like … “You know, if I go down, the little chat we had about red-shirts might leak out.”
Dumgold might have some very embarrassing stuff to say about political string pulling if he has nafink left to lose.
Damn, a Pontius Pilate reference!
Sofronoff is REALLY p*ssed off.
Bravo.
Thanks, handy safety tip:
Don’t drink boiled fresh geranium flowers.
Bern
He’s rooted. The oz.
Don’t spill it on those linen pants.
Calli,
thanks for the info re the tea. Will search for it online.
Geraniums may not make good tea, though Rose Geranium is nice in jam. 😀
You think? The report appears to be one of the harshest findings I’ve ever read if the reporting is correct. He can’t survive that, I think.
Also, I suspect the High Court wouldn’t like being lied to.
and may lead to criminal prosecution against him for perverting the course of justice,
Bwahahaha.
Just like SBF was going to be charged with campaign finance breaches but the FBI “screwed up” the indictment so withdrew the biggest scandal of the FTX shitshow.
The establishment protects its own.
Shane Owngoal ought lose his certificate to practice – at the very least.
Eric,
I would never presume to know the length of a male’s member without having seen it.
Having kneed many during my party years, I certainly know whether they have one, or not.
John H:
The brutal truth is that the corruption of Russian politics, justice, and her economy have crippled her and she cannot work her way out of it.
Putin cannot solve the corruption because it is the mainstay of his power.
Russia is in dire straits and must collapse if it cannot sort itself out.
This is a pity, because I think Russia would be a great addition to the European polity. I see a point in time when Europe must ally with Russia if only to protect the resources area of the Great Siberian Plateau and the eastern regions from China.
No doubt Dumgold is in a world of pain.
But he isn’t being summarily fired.
Why not?
He is negotiating an exit which will make sure he is left comfortably off, thank you very much.
Higgins of the UN might be able to get some more lovely taxpayer cash.
Sufferings brought on by an unethical prosecution.
Anyway, “Sliante” to all you hairy mob. A morning spent in the cancer ward at a certain Perth hospital, listening to one of the top specialists in Australia, has answered a lot of questions. Mme Zulu is into another large G and T.
My wife makes a tea up using peppermint, horsetail, ginger root, nettle leaf, cinnamon bark and oat straw (Australian), it’s called the “Healthy Bones Tea”.
She’s taken the broom for a spin tonight given it’s a full moon.
Of course. But you can tell how many testicles over a blog, right?
I’m sure you have, but I don’t quite see it as something a woman would state publicly and wear it as a badge of honor. Perhaps, I’m a little old fashioned and prefer the girl next door kind. I don’t think Driller minds though as he’s needy and will settle for any lovely lady.
Only if they can fit the sides, right? Perhaps they aren’t the problem.
Anyway, this is boring Ghissa, let’s get back to Smirnoff vs Drumgold and judge which is the better vodka.
Behaviour is some guide.
Something for you to reflect upon, Mr. 0.05
I would never presume to know the length of a male’s member without having seen it.
Very transphobic.
Pogria have you seen Woman in Gold? Beautiful movie.

Obviously the twins never met Mk 50.
There are three levels of sanction available against Dumgold:-
1. Loss of job. Probable, but he won’t be fired. It will be a negotiated redundancy.
2. Loss of career (i.e. bar membership, practicing certificate). Is there an ACT bar? Or is it incorporated into NSW? If ACT he is safe. If NSW, he is probably gone.
3. Criminal charges. Don’t make me laugh.
Mizzzz Knickerless and Shiraz will be furious if Lehrmann gets more than Knickerless.
The Culturist decides to try his toe in the water.

Just saw your comment about electricity bill Areff.
That’s insane.
My July bills were $185 electricity and $347 gas, three adults here.
I pay monthly.
Electricity is up about $50 a month, since April. Though for a long time it was consistently $80 a month so more than double what it was three years ago.
My gas bill is down about $100 from last year, because I rarely now turn the ducted heating on.
I’ve been on the fence for a while. I’m inclined to believe Tartaria was real. Those dismissing it I rate as equal to those pushing man made global warming. F*ckwits!
It’ll be a bone of contention for a while. Kissinger placing the name on his book cover is telling.
Word Order.

Who is “The Culturist”?
I like your approach but sadly I’m not optimistic about the possibility.
In the novel Dead Souls the author has a passage which points out that Russia has always had an identity problem. It sits between the East and the West but doesn’t belong to either.
It is perhaps more the case that Russia wants either the East or West, preferably both, to be like Russia. I just watched an interview with an Indian bod where he argued that because Russia is now aligning with China India is going to increasingly distance itself from Russia. It has already cancelled some military contracts but that was before Ukraine and had more to do with failures of delivery and promise in those contracts; one example being it pulled out of the SU57 development cycle which probably explains why that has stalled.

THIS explains why Russia starts insane wars
BTW, I previously forgot to add that contrary to the views of some here there is a winner in this war. NATO. Can off load mostly mothballed or ample supplies of weapons, can obtain valuable intelligence of Russian technology and tactics, and can send a big signal to others contemplating invasion.

For Lehrmann to be successful against the DPP he will have to show that they were responsible for Drumgold and that Drumgold did not untether himself from the DPP by his actions. In any event Drumgold is gone. The DPP is not like the abc protecting defamation sources like milligan.
Oops …. World Order.
Einfield got 2 years in the tank for a false Stat Dec on a speeding fine. In the circumstances, Drumgold’s conduct was orders of magnitude worse.
If he had any sliver of integrity, he’d be retiring to his study with a Webley about now.
“Katy, are we the baddies?”
Oh yeah , Culturalist. Misspelled a new-word. Thanks for picking it up.
Muds take note! 🙂
Well it’s either that or he’s not quite being up front with exactly how many cats he owns.
Maybe Dumgeld might now claim he was under some political pressure.
That embargoed (by the ACT Town Council) report didn’t take long to leak, did it?
I do know he isn’t smart enough to write his own material.
Look, I get that you might be dazzled by a bit of gold braid, pips on the shoulders and some hearty “Hello, sailor!” banter.
I’m not.
I might tell the story one day of how I contributed to the end of a gold braid’s career over defrauding the taxpayer.
He was a bullying blowhard too, but went to water under pressure.
But Drumgold represents the DPP. He is part of the organization. So if he screws up then the DPP is responsible, no?
So, Bruce L wouldn’t be impeded, right?
Rosie.
Is it just males in childcare, or males within 200m of ANY children that makes you feel queasy?
Ranga,
Woman in Gold was brilliant. One of Helen Mirren’s better performances.
hydroponics costs a bundle in energy costs, so I’m told.
I could be wrong, but I am not sure it has leaked.
I think that was Janet Albrechtsen referencing the enquiry evidence and drawing a logical conclusion.

Eric,
why yes, I can tell on a blog how many testicles someone has. It’s a gift every woman has.
Probably best to stay in your lane, champ.
Stick to things you know about, like telling low IQ tradesmen how much you know about waterproofing.
No.
But I have met Milli Vanilli, so that’s pretty much the same, right?
Having had 11 maybe 12 operations on just my knees I’ve got a pretty good idea what goes on. Or more to the point what doesn’t go on. TKR lasts about 15 to 18 years. I’ve got 1 good one and one not so good. Frozen peas worked better than drugs for pain control with me. I’ve had a duk refer to me as an orthopaedic nightmare. Ha! Apparently a robot can do TKR with the recovery period being very short.
JC:
You are either a secret globalist sympathiser or a complete bloody fool.
I reckon it’s both.
And that’s all I have to say to you tonight – so piss off.
Got a bee in your bonnet Muddy?
I didn’t say I felt queasy, so please don’t put words in my mouth. I just don’t see looking after other people’s babies and toddlers, and all that that entails, as the natural role of men.
And the world being what it is, I’d prefer they didn’t.
Please don’t cast me in some sort of man hater role to suit your own private narrative.
I’m very fond indeed of the men in my life.
I recall why he left the site and didn’t come back. He used to take sojourns after he’d receive the periodic walloping for being a plagiarizing rear admiral.
Marcus Adonis came on the site boasting how youngish girls would go hysterical almost to the point of fainting when he working out at the gym totally mesmerized by his incredible muscular physique. He’s in 60s, I think.
A soldier that posts here occasionally – like a real one. A former SAS dude who saw action, was totally unimpressed by the Adonis’s comment and laughed him off the site. Never seen again. Good riddens to bad fungus.
Which reminds me, Mater was really good value.
Most haven’t a clue about this.

Ranga,
bloody hell, you’ve really been through the wars. I’ve only been sliced and diced once. I had been told that the new bits are only good for the 15-18 you mentioned. I am hanging onto the 3 sets of knee supports I wore to keep me upright before the op. Just in case, you know. 😀
That’s very hurtful and a little on the spiteful side too, Turts. It’s hardly appreciated.
Okay, get on the couch and think of me as your shrink. Go through all those things that displease you about me and we deal with them one by one. Refer to me as Dr. JC in the formal though as we need some distance.
Turts , we can work through this.
No, you do not.
Stick to your lane, civilian. Stick to insulting tradesmen & working people for not being as lofty as yourself.
If you don’t know the different functions of RAN & SAS, stick to playing with cap guns & hollering “draw, pardner!” at other kids in your suburb.
(or tell a waterproofer he doesn’t know his trade, stuff like that)
Who is “Turts”?
Drills
I think you require some couch time with Dr. JC too. Let’s do it over Zoom (both of you) and I’ll be making the claim through medicare after each visit. I need your medicare details too.
