As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted by the new thread:

[the US] should undertake a 1973-like massive arms lift of key munitions to Israel

Well, most of what it could have sent is in scraps scattered over the battlefields of eastern Ukraine.

VDH isn’t always very sound on this kind of thing. In 1973, Israel was fighting nation-state opponents equipped with Soviet hardware in conventional, high intensity warfare. The Soviets undertook a similar resupply to the Egyptians and Syrians to make up for their battlefield losses, too.

Today is not 1973. Israel already has more than enough hardware to deal with Hamas – in this regard it’s an entirely lopsided conflict. The difficulty is going to be in urban conflict and engaging an enemy that makes itself indistinguishable from civilians and is perfectly happy for 20 of its soldiers to die in the process of killing one Israeli soldier.

Today is not 2006, either. I suspect Israeli public today is less concerned about world opinion than it was then, and there will be an expectation that this is the conflict that will settle the dispute definitively. My guess is there’s going to be a two state imposition at the end of this road.

And now wasting another First XI spot on some mindless gasbagging:
Does this Hamas vs Israel mini-war jeopardise the Abraham Accords in any way?
In a word, No. Although the AAs were trumpeted as a brilliant foreign policy achievement of the Orange Man Administration, they only involved deals between Israel, UAE, and Bahrain. There were no peace deals between any pair of actually-belligerent parties.

Britannica Encyclopaedia even says:

Sweetened with an offer from the United States to sell 50 F-35 combat jets to the United Arab Emirates, a deal was announced in August. The United Arab Emirates indicated that normalization would provide it with increased leverage to intervene on behalf of the Palestinians, but observers speculated that the deal would encourage the Arab states to set aside the Palestinian cause when it suited those states’ interests.

Today the possibility that the Abraham Accords would inspire more countries to join seems further away than ever.

Dad watched the Ch 7 discussion panel of Aboriginals. He reports Jacinta Price spoke & performed brilliantly, she slayed ’em.

Lidia Thorpe was across her case & prosecuted it well (it really pained him to say that)

Senator McCarthy was utterly hopeless, repeating the same lines regardless, like one of those dolls where you pull the string in its back & it speaks.

Ray “Aborigine” Martin was a train wreck with his attempt to walk back the “Dickheads & Dinosaurs” comment, reckoned Ray “Aborigine” would have been better off shutting up & not digging any deeper.

In 1983, Iran used a proxy to blow up a marine barracks in Beirut.
In 2023, Iran used a proxy to murder civilians at a music festival.
The sooner Israel demonstrates it’s happy to target key people & assets in Iran the more the rest of the middle east will support it.

The ABC’s poll of the polls now puts Yes at an average of 41.2 per cent, well behind No at 58.8 per cent.

For Yes, that’s well below the level of support that was recorded in the republic referendum in 1999, which failed with just over 45 per cent of the national vote.

“I’m old enough to remember that at the time, it didn’t feel about a week out that the case for change was in a particularly good place,” Professor Simon Jackman from the University of Sydney says.

Um

Of course, that’s a general trend, and it won’t hold true uniformly. It’s likely that Cooktown will vote differently to Cape York, the results in Walgett won’t mirror those in Whyalla, and East Hills may look nothing like Elizabeth.

My sources indicate even the indigenous in Walgett aren’t overwhelmingly supportive of Da Voice.

Further to Voice polling, I caught some of Fatty Murray’s programme last night, and he was dissecting Voice polling. Apparently, polling in migrant communities shows support for da Voice to be lowest among the Chinese community. What a surprise….NO, it isn’t a surprise. I think the you’d see the same among the Vietnamese.

It confirms my thoughts that the people who’ll save this country from this iniquitous voice will be rural Australians, working class Australians, elderly Australians, and new Australians. It won’t be effluent Teal voting scum in electorates like Wentworth.

The no show vote will cruel the NO vote.

I expect it to be higher than in 1999 but I hope and expect it won’t be very high.

It could be large though as people being pissed off are likely to not vote, against their own interests.

I’ll say three per cent.

It could be much higher. I think the early voting indicates people are willing to vote no instead of just getting angry and not turn up.

If you want me to guess the turnout in Walgett, you can tell me how many people will be hungover and non functioning on Saturday in Walgett.

Young people, I’m trying to show and feel “restraint” Bern. And their bodies mutilated, and on parade in Gaza, that’s what Israel has to deal with.

Last a sneerer appeared here on the old fred, and this sneerer argued that since I cared so much I should fly to Israel. Given I’m in my late fifties (reasonably fit), my services would be rather pointless when it comes to fighting, but what is interesting is that when stuff like this happens, people’s responses really do separate the wheat from the chaff.

The sneerer went on to write that “Borders constantly change throughout time.”. This isn’t some border conflict or skirmish, it’s a conflict about existence. Hamas and most Palestinians are quite clear about the fact that they do not want Israel to exist and they do not want Jews living in any part of “Palestine”. When they parrot from “the river to the sea”, they mean it. It is a call to genocide.

As I write, the corpses of Jewish men, women and children, hundreds of them, are lying in body bags or being paraded in the streets of Gaza.

Rowan Dean, in his editorial yesterday, brutally and bluntly said it best. I would urge everyone to watch it.

The people pushing it and popping in front of the news are overwhelmingly well-heeled and white. Oh, I know there are people out there who insist on calling themselves Aboriginal because a great great grand-parent (going back near a century now, too) was Aboriginal but I wonder how many Aborigines really take those claims seriously: Someone raking in high six-figures constantly on TV and in magazines and whatnot saying that a single great great grandparent entitles them to speak for you.

Borders do change, that is the nature of warfare…

The reality is that the state of Isreal will only exist while the U.S./Europe can afford to support it.
Once that financial and military support goes, so will Isreal.

Poor judgment by either Elbow, or Elbow’s ponytails (the Tele):

Former champion boxer Anthony Mundine has vowed to gather a group of men and “raise hell” after Anthony Albanese visited a Sydney mosque to campaign for the ‘Yes’ vote.

Mr Albanese visited Lakemba Mosque in western Sydney on Friday to drum up support for the Voice to Parliament referendum, meeting with members of the Muslim community during his visit.

Aside from raising the question of why a PM would go to a mosque to drum up support for an indig-based referendum, evidently not all were impressed – let alone Mundine:

“Listen I’ve f***king had enough, they’re bringing the prime minister to the place of worship, the mosque, and pushing this ‘Yes’ s***,” Mundine said in the clip.

That mosque was in Lakemba. Coincidentally, also in that patch (and in a separate Tele piece):

Palestinian rallies have been held in western Sydney to express support for the attacks launched by Hamas in Israel.

People in their hundreds flocked to Lakemba Station on Sunday night, just a day after at least 700 people were killed in Israel and another 2000 were reportedly injured, according to the country’s media.

Australian onlookers were seen cheering and shouting as a series of speakers preached their praises for the Palestinian attacks, which began on Saturday.

Not just South Vietnamese.

My sources indicate even the indigenous in Walgett aren’t overwhelmingly supportive of Da Voice.

Almost no white people take the 1/16 thing seriously. It is an example of how ridiculous the whole thing as become.

The question of who is really an “aboriginal” (not “indigenous”, which has a different meaning) must be resolved after this. Being generous, one-eighth could be acceptable, but nothing less.

Either Hareetz is competing with the ABC, CNN, NYT and WP for the most mendacious news reporting on the planet, or there are seriously serious questions that need to be asked about what the Israeli army had been doing along the Gaza border.

A notoriously unstable region, one would have expected a massive, alert army presence there. Not to mention fully deployed rapid-response technology.

Early days yet, but even leaving a politicised Mossad aside, massive failures in Israeli defence, especially the army, are going to be revealed.
A tragedy, on all fronts.

Lakemba pro-Palestine rally held with hundreds in attendance to support Hamas attack on Israel

The Prime Minister has condemned celebrations over the unfolding crisis in Israel after hundreds rallied in Sydney’s southwest to show support for Palestine.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the land, sea, and air assault by Hamas and those who gathered in support of the violence, after celebrations broke out in Sydney’s southwest.

On Sunday night, a Palestinian rally was held to express support for the attacks launched in Israel.

“I’m smiling and I’m happy. I’m elated,” Sheikh Ibrahim Dadoun said to the crowd.

“It’s a day of courage, it’s a day of resistance, it’s a day of pride, it’s a day of victory.

“This is the day we’ve been waiting for.”

The statements were followed by loud cheers from the crowd.

Mr Albanese told Sunrise there was “no victory with the slaughter of innocent people”.

“The capturing of the people and taking them back to Gaza represents an extraordinary action by Hamas. And Israel, of course, has a right to defend itself, and it will.”

And, let’s not forget that the Paleo flag is a “lift” from the Jordanian one.

Let us also not forget the words of Zuheir Mohsen, – top PLO member responsible for Damur massacre:

“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct “Palestinian people” to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.”This fact was admitted by Professor Philip Hitti, an Arab historian who declared, “There is no such thing as Palestine in history, absolutely not.” This fact is further confirmed by the Saudi Arabia Representative at the United Nations. “It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but Southern Syria.”

Or Fathi Hammad, who said live on TV:

“…half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis”

How about Hafez Assad, Father of the Syrian “incumbent, who said to the PLO:

“You do not represent Palestine as much as we do. Never forget this one point: There is no such thing as a Palestinian people, there is no Palestinian entity, there is only Syria.”

Then there’s Zuhair Muhsin, Executive Council, military commander of the PLO and member of the PLO:

“There are no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. We are all part of one nation. It is only for political reasons that we carefully underline our Palestinian identity… yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity serves only tactical purposes. The founding of a Palestinian state is a new tool in the continuing battle against Israel.”

And finally, a few words from retired terrorist, Walid Shoebat:

“Why is it that on June 4th 1967 I was a Jordanian and overnight I became a Palestinian?” We did not particularly mind Jordanian rule. The teaching of the destruction of Israel was a definite part of the curriculum, but we considered ourselves Jordanian until the Jews returned to Jerusalem. Then all of the sudden we were Palestinians – they removed the star from the Jordanian flag and all at once we had a Palestinian flag”. When I finally realized the lies and myths I was taught, it is my duty as a righteous person to speak out”.

And another thing:

The Romans called what used to be Judea, “Palaestina” as a rather nasty joke.

After the siege of Masada. Emperor Hadrian decided to erase the name of Judeah forever, so being literate and having a suitably grim, Roman sense of humour, he ordered the area to be renamed after earlier inhabitants of the region; a large band of notorious pirates. These were the “Peleshet”, a name which variously and loosely translates to “invaders” or “raiders”. They had long since ceased operating in the region, but their memory lingered across the eastern Mediterranean.

And, just for giggles, Yasser Arafat, PLO bigshot and “interesting” person, was an Egyptian .

Andrew Bolt:

The surprise invasion of Israel by Palestinian terrorists show what many on the Left have been blind to: Israel’s enemies are not like you and me.

The internet teems with videos of what these terrorists, sent by the Hamas leaders of Gaza, have done, and they say it all: these people have a different moral code.

They show Jewish civilians, men and women, gunned down in their cars, some of the more than 300 Israeli dead.

They show a Jewish woman, screaming for her husband, driven off on motorbike as a hostage, and three other terrified women in a truck.

Another woman, probably someone’s grandmother, is driven into Gaza on a golf buggy by armed men – another hostage.

A Palestinian fighter, shouting in triumph, drags another Jewish woman, her arms bound and pants soiled in fear, out of his SUV.

Other fighters show off a dead Jewish woman, then drive her body through a cheering crowd of Palestinians.

All this and more – the kidnapping even of children – tell us Israel is dealing with an enemy that makes no distinction between soldier and civilian, men and women.

It is a radical Islamist enemy that revels in an attack which is militarily pointless but kills Jews.

But maybe the Left will now awake to the nature of Israel’s enemies, armed by Iran.

It has too often indulged in a fatal conceit – that all people are fundamentally like them, and will mellow if only we were nicer.

Take the response of America’s Office of Palestinian Affairs.

“We urge all sides to refrain from violence and retaliatory attacks,” it tweeted. “Terror and violence solve nothing.”

That tweet was later deleted, and President Joe Biden declared he backed Israel’s right to defend itself.

But this US diplomatic body had instinctively urged Israel not to retaliate against mass-murdering Jew-haters, as if turning the other cheek would make them soften.

We’ve seen so much of this idiocy.

The Albanese government scrapped our recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and declared East Jerusalem and all the West Bank to be “occupied Palestinian territory”, as if Hamas would suddenly play nice.

But now everything is changed, and not just because Israelis will unite more behind a government wrongly denounced as a threat to democracy.

This brutality speaks. It says Gaza, a key part of Palestine, is ruled by people who prefer killing Jews to peace. Who now could seriously tell Israel to compromise?

No compromise. Destroy them.

Give assistance to people in genuine need – not those who choose to live on the dole, or who make incredibly bad decisions and then expect no consequences.

The entire aboriginal industry should be closed down.

For that matter too should be the whole concept of “living on country”. Those concepts were encouraged because somehow it was thought to be beneficial to continue to exist in some 50/50 concept of living the life of the noble savage while enjoying benefits from the while man of education, health, policing, and endless handouts. Iran did not get one cent of US tax payers money. They got Iranian money which was frozen in South Korean banks through US sanctions released to a Qatar bank. The money was owed to Iran for the sale of condensate some time ago but withheld because of the US sanctions.

Elon is asking for calm. One of the obvious theories about why iran did this:

Iran had to do something. The Abraham accords were slowly emasculating their power in the Middle East. They want to be the hegemonic power not KSA. Everybody assumes Iran wants nukes to threatened Israel. That’s laughable. The IDF has 300 nukes most on par with our own ICBM and SLBM warheads

There’s probably some truth to this but you can over analyze. The facts are basic: iran wants Israel dead. Some other ME states due to the work of Trump have accepted Israel. Will Israel olbliterating iran jeopardise Trump’s progress. Bearing in mind that up until now biden and his swamp were empowering iran.

Like it or lump it, history is pretty clearly in support of this position – if you conquer another nation, you *must* eliminate the losers, or they will cause ever increasing problems a century or 2 later.

If only the Normans had wiped out the Anglo-Saxons, eh?

You could imagine the difference between a Trump & Biden (or one of his handlers) call with Israel.
Trump would be “go nuts” for the next two weeks or similar.
Who knows what team Biden would be saying.

And yet American Jews predominantly support Biden’s Democrats.

“When can we celebrate the bombing of the Lakemba Mosque on a Friday. What a shame, too bad. Its not as if they are innocent is it? These people are barbarians. Is the celebration of innocent Jewish life hate speech, if so, where are the luvvies condemning it. Crickets, I hear crickets.”

Yep. Yesterday on Outsiders Rowan Dean gave an editorial in which he skewered the the rampant hypocrisy and Jew hatred of the left. Apart from the Gazans, the Iranians and so on, there are also people closer to home, even in our Labor and Greens parties, who must bear responsibility for this invasion and massacre, and that is western progressives. These progressives, with their putrid moral equivalence, have spent decades feeding the crocodile that is “Palestine”, “Islamism”, “BDS” and so on.

Enough.

Gaza conflict explodes into official war as Israelis strike back against Hamas militants

Iran helped plan Hamas’s attack on Israel, according to senior militant members, as the US stepped up military aid and the death toll surged – including the discovery of at least 260 bodies at a festival site. Follow the updates. Warning: Graphic

I’m not sure it was all about keeping the Israelis down so they could not fight back and form an independent state like the Hasmoneans did.

Ironically despite their more inland origins, the Phonecians (old Canaanites from the north) became seafaring ancestors of Carthage and the more coastal Philistines became homebodies. There are some Jewish scholars who believe Judaism started in Canaan so the influence of Hebrews on world history is huge even in the ancient world, ignoring the biblical implications…

[I just find this very interesting, like the extent to the Romans explored the open ocean or how early the Mediterranean were talking to and trading with the early British and Irish.]

Let’s think about why the Romans would like to retcon a few hundred or thousand years of history they knew about.

Now, of course, the Romans had their own reputation to spit shine and wouldn’t call Acre; “Vetus Carthago”.

As they controlled Greece and largely spoke Greek in the civil service, calling it Syria Palestinian was not offensive to the regime which had God Emperors and acknowledged Greek roots of Italy and Rome. They liked to think of Rome as a second, more moral and tougher Athens with the same level of scholarship and mythical roots. Greece was taken over by acting as an arbiter between the Greek states, Carthage was a real threat to the survival of Rome as an early Empire, confederation and the City itself.

Another thing to remember is that Greece is sometimes considered part of the levant, the last three dynasties of the Israeli monarchy (Maccabees to Herod Agrippa’s death) were Greek speakers and so were educated Hellenistic Israelites – possibly like St Luke the Evangelist.

Rome had it’s own PR issues, not just a small Koine Greek speaking rebel Kingdom to suppress.

So yes at times opinions line up and at other times they don’t. We all have opinions like we all have a certain bit of anatomy.

You only have to look at the media reaction to this mid-east disgrace .. ALL the popular internet Oz media outlets have shutdown comments on 95% of their reports coming from Israel/Gaza … they’ve had no trouble skewering the comments on the Voice to favour the YES vote but aren’t so keen to risk public opinion on Israel/Hamas

“I still find it amusing though, as it was born out my of lack solidarity with the prevailing opinion”

So, the prevailing opinion here is one of outrage at what has happened in Israel, where elderly Jewish men and women, young Jewish men and women, Jewish children, Jewish and Druze IDF soldiers sleeping in their bunks, have been murdered, the naked bodies of young Jewish women mutilated and their corpses paraded through the streets of Gaza, to cheers from the local Gazans. I think most here are outraged. But not you. Interesting. And when rebutted, you sneer ‘dogpiling’.

My comments were in regard to how it may play out afterwards.

As I said, Israel can go and nuke everyone for all I care.

What happens then?

And what happens once the West can no longer bankroll the military support for their continued existence due to our own internal problems?

They are absolutely free to do that, if they desired to conquer more territory for more resources.

There may be consequences for doing so though, but they can certainly do that if they wish.
