FOURTEEN

The ACCC approved the $18.7 billion bid for Origin by Brookfield (jointly with Mid Ocean Energy which will take Origin’s LNG business).

It had been won over by Brookfield’s plan of $30 billion Australian investment in 13.7GW of wind, solar and storage within a decade of its purchase, compared with Origin’s prior plan for 4GW. Origin seems to have retained its plan to close the giant Eraring coal plant in August, 2025.

From the IEA link Rafe provided above:

Absent unforeseeable technological breakthroughs, likely nothing short of a massive reordering of how society uses energy [my bolding] will be required.

What might ‘reordering’ be code for?
Hello 1423, this seems familiar!?

Achieving any of the net-zero pathways in Net-Zero America requires heroic assumptions about land use, coal use, sales of electric vehicles (EVs), and construction of new generation and infrastructure. Achieving any one of these assumed target values would require massive, unprecedented, and rapid change*. Hitting net-zero would require all these unprecedented targets to be achieved.

The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) “sustainable development scenario” results in a 42-fold increase in lithium demand, a 25-fold increase in graphite demand, a 21-fold increase in cobalt demand, a 19-fold increase in nickel demand, and a 7-fold increase in rare earth demand by 2040.

* They forgot to include ‘disruptive’, ‘displace’, and numerous other adjectives and verbs. I wonder why? (Why? Because this is a forced, accelerated, return to economic and social feudalism).

All bolding is mine.
