Spike Milligan was a gunner in North Africa.

He wrote a book about his experiences

Five or six books, I’d have to look them all up. I have them all somewhere. Superb and wonderful and hilarious. He got PTSD and had to stop sadly. Woy Woy’s biggest asset.

Having just consulted the bookshelf, I found four of the wartime Milligan books:
Mussolini – His part in My Downfall
Monty – His part in my victory
Rommel? Gunner Who?
And as above, Adolf Hitler – My part in his downfall.

There are plenty more there, Mr B collected them. Titles include Small Dreams of a Scorpion and Wuthering Heights According to Sike Milligan.

I can never think of Spike without remembering the Goon Show line noting he was Spike Malligna, “the well-known typing error.”

We listened to every Goon Show ever aired I think, making it a ritual. At the time we met, that was Saturday lunchtime, more recently it was at 5:30 on a weekday morning (I forget which) and I could listen while getting ready for work. Other radio gems from those days include My Word, Hancock’s Half Hour, My Music.

The Palestinian Government the terrorist organisation Hamas has spend millions, possibly billions on financing terror, constructing terror tunnels and terror rockets and paying hamas terrorists.
So how about dealing with the real cause of Gazan poverty, the Palestinian government the terrorist organisation Hamas.

Mem, I did get just enough of a look at the White House menu on TV to see “Butternut Squash Soup”. This would be a novelty to many Americans, who use squash ( pumpkin) pretty much only in a Halloween sweet pie. Jodie probably knocks up a better version half a dozen times every winter, like I do

Bet no one saw this coming.

The UFC announced Tuesday a new sponsorship deal with Anheuser-Busch that makes Bud Light the “official beer partner of the UFC,” replacing Modelo. A source familiar with the terms not authorized to speak publicly told Yahoo Sports that the deal, which takes effect on Jan. 1, is worth in excess of $100 million.

The UFC had a previous sponsorship deal with Anheuser-Busch that expired in 2019. It was replaced by Modelo.

On This Day:

1415 – Hundred Years’ War: Henry V of England, with his lightly armoured infantry and archers, defeats the heavily armoured French cavalry in the Battle of Agincourt

This magnificent achievement, which it was, was overshadowed by the following English activities:

1. The killing of prisoners instead of ransoming them, as was the custom of the time;
2. Incessant moaning about the weather and dysentery; and
3. A slew of complaints, apropos of the reported inability to get a decent kipper in France.

You know Sanchez, I reckon Glen Iris is one of the prettiest middle burbs in the city. Some of the streets are gorgeous, tree lined with Edwardian homes. We first went to the restaurant with some friends, who live in Toorak. When I suggested it was the best looking burbs, they winced, horribly. Of course, they live in one of those massive, ugly french provincials. They have an incredible art collection though with a Picasso!

Toorak has become French provincial ugly. Every third home is now a frog copy monstrosity. Most of those lovely old time Toorak mansions are gonsky.

What is it with the faux chateaux?
They are invariably out of scale and context with their surroundings and usually not in proportion in themselves (they often have a third storey with those French dormer windows, but squished down to fit height restrictions).

Are Edwardian and Federation, basically the same thing?

A bit loosey-goosey in some respects.
Victorian era goes to her death in 1901.
Edwardian is the reign of Eddie VII from 1901 until 1910.
Federation covers just before 1900 until post WW1.
It’s more about the style than strict delineation by build date.
(All three descriptions will trigger Noel from Noosa).

Here we go. The Hun’s picked it up:

Archival footage of Anthony Albanese attending a pro-Palestinian protest has emerged as Jewish leaders question why he has not yet visited Israel.
The prime minister, captured in archival footage from earlier in his parliamentary career, is seen protesting the “occupation” of Palestine by Israel, according to archival footage obtained by Sky News.

In the video, Mr Albanese is seen protesting in Martin Place, condemning the actions of the Israeli military as he stands next to a sign reading “ Stop the Israeli slaughter, free Palestine now”.

“The response of Israel has been to meet children throwing rocks with helicopters, with tanks and with missiles,” Mr Albanese said in the clip.

That was before he worked out the way to eternal gigantic pensions was to fence-sit. From his current US tour:

”I continue to emphasis that Australia’s position is for the protection of innocent lives, we mourn as a nation every innocent life which has been lost in the conflict, whether it be Israeli or Palestinian.”

Last time is caught alight they were using our lakes to scoop up water for the helicopters. This time the lakes are so low they’d be lucky not to ground the bucket.

I see each-way Albo is trying to back both horses in the Israel conflict, reduced to that age-old euphemism “innocent civilians”. It was pretty obvious from the start that there are very few innocents on the Gaza side of the border. Pouring in after the killers and looting houses before the bodies are cold does not smack of “innocence”, nor does parading and cheering the corpses of dead women.

It’s interesting isn’t it, how footage has now come to light of Sleazy, the old Trot, attending and speaking at an anti-Israel protest, in the footage he’s frothing at the megaphone. He really is a lowlife. The piece in the Telegraph doesn’t say when the protest was, but it most certainly wasn’t footage dating from the 1980s, when Sleazy was an immature Trot from housing commission? No, no, no, it was far more recent, I reckon it’s from the last twenty or so years, so the sleaze bucket from Grayndler was by then in his late 30s or 40s, yet he’s caught on film attending a radical Jew hating protest where he screeches on a megaphone. It’s long been obvious that Sleazy the Trot never liked the sole Jewish state on the planet. Ho hum. But this creep is now PM, and the double standards stink, there’s never any f*cking accountability for those on the left. Just imagine if footage emerged of Dutton or Scumbag attending a League of Rights rally in the 1980s, or 1990s, or early 2000s. Ya reckon that that would have remained submerged for decades? I don’t think so.

Only two weeks ago one of the Slovenian hag’s staffers was caught on film attending the infamous “gas the Jews” protest. His name is Will Simmons (remember that, no doubt he’ll be vomited up for Labor preselection in the near future). Plibersek said he’d ‘apologised’ and that he was remorseful and that he’s only 22 years old……..blah, blah, blah. Firstly, I don’t accept his apology. Secondly, you don’t stand in a group of frenzied frothing people screeching “gas the Jews”, and pretend that there wasn’t something awfully wrong. Why didn’t Wee Willie walk away? Why didn’t Wee Willie go up to the NSWannsee police and ask that they arrest the protesters? Nah, you see, Wee Willie heard the screeches of “gas the Jews”, Wee Willie saw the people screech “gas the Jews”….and he did nothing. He only cared, he was only remorseful it was revealed that he was there.

Sleazy the Trot gets a free hand for his long history of Jew hatred, and here’s the thing, it is Jew hatred. The scab is off, he and others can’t hide behind the “anti-Zionism” label, it’s just good old fashioned Jew hatred, which is what it has always been. I have no doubt, no doubt whatsoever that Sleazy would agree with that Portuguese cockroach.

But nothing surprises me anymore, and anyway, Sleazy remains the immature Trot from housing commission.

Political analyst Peter van Onselen agreed the appointment of an Aboriginal Australian to the role would help reconciliation, and he believed most Australians would ‘welcome the move’.

‘I’m just not sure that person should be Linda Burney,’ he said, after criticism of her ability to handle tough questioning about the Indigenous Voice to Parliament and refusing to debate her Coalition opponent, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price.

‘Her poor advocacy was a key reason the Yes case lost. She’s obviously partisan too. But I can see why appointing her to the role would suit Albo.’

Political analyst Dr Faustus agreed that the staggering irony of appointing Linda Burney as Kings Representative, after mishandling a toxic debate on colonialism, would be a unifying ‘far queue’ to No and Yes supporters and the First Nations industry.

It would also debase the Constitutional system by making the GG position a dumping ground for incompetents who need a reward, irritate monarchists, and demonstrate what a politically-driven Republican model would look like.

Do it, Gnome.

Tom, I lived in Grayndler for several years. Albansleazey’s equally stupid vile woife was the state member at the time (thanks labore, you inbred imbeciles!).

In 2010, I ended up inadvertently voting for Albansleazey due to the fact that there is no optional preferential voting in the lower house in feral elections. There were six candidates only one of which (the gliberal) wasn’t (presumably) a raving collectivist cretin. I put the greenfilth candidate last and Albansleazey second last.

Then the stupid bloody incompetent corrupt ALPEC decided to make it a runoff between Albansleazey and the greenfilth on preferences, so consequently, my vote went to Albansleazey. Had I realised this was a possibility I would not have cast a formal vote.

If anyone can post this Article from the Front Page of The Australia would be appreciated

The all-up cost for Snowy 2.0 and its transmission connections is now approaching $25bn – an absurd amount for a 2200MW water battery

TED WOODLEY
Contributor

Here is an Article Dated 25 October 2023 under his name

Government snowed again, if it believes Snowy 2.0 is a commercial investment

Ted Woodley 25 October 2023

While this is only an indicative analysis (e.g. not correcting for $real), it demonstrates that the reset IRR extrapolates to well below Snowy Hydro’s stringent investment criteria of 8%, well below the reset’s estimate of 7.5%, and even well below the current bond rate of 4.5%.

Clearly, at such levels of IRR Snowy 2.0 would have a negative NPV and is far from being a commercial investment – no commercial board would ever approve such a project.

The actual IRR will probably be even lower than extrapolated, as it is almost certain there will be further cost blowouts and the reset cost probably still doesn’t include all project components (such as financing, design, project management, owner’s costs, exploratory and other works, the segment factory). Collectively, these missing components will add many $billions by the time the project is completed.

And of course there is over $10 billion of transmission lines being built primarily to connect Snowy 2.0 to Sydney and Melbourne (HumeLink, Sydney Ring South, VNI West).

The all-up cost for Snowy 2.0 and its transmission connections is now approaching $25 billion, an absurd amount for a 2,200 MW water battery – at such a cost the IRR would be nonsensical.

Also note that the $3 billion reset value is subject to two provisos – a $12 billion target cost and 2028 delivery – neither of which is achievable.

Further evidence that Snowy 2.0 couldn’t possibly attain a NPV of $3 billion is that, if so, this would result in a gross value of at least $15 billion [$3bn plus $12+bn].

This is $10 billion higher that the FID estimate of $4.3 to $6.6 billion, when the cost was $3.8 billion, and would mean that the value of Snowy 2.0 has somehow increased threefold since 2019.

How is it that every time Snowy 2.0’s cost blows out its value increases by a greater amount?

When will the government finally twig to the fact that not one of the estimates and claims for Snowy 2.0 over the past six and a half years has been anywhere near correct, and that this latest reset seems to be no different?

I am still continually amazed at people’s ignorance of how elections , and preferences work.

Your vote was always going to go to Sleazy unless the Green won. The “runoff” you refer to is when the AEC makes a guess as to which 2 candidates will get most votes. On election night ALL votes are counted. After that they do the “runoff” ( better known as the 2 party preferred vote) between those 2 nominated candidates so that a sense of the final result is known on election night. Occasionally the AEC gets it very wrong when it selects the 2 candidates whose preferences are counted.

In the real count, they do the the full preference distribution for each ballot paper.

Yes, Leavers’ earlier commentary was surprisingly forthright about the consequences of ‘Treaties’ and the actual problems in communities.

And despite the public anguish, there’s been no argued rebuttal of the factual points he made about the cultural helplessness of remote communities in the face of criminality by the few.

Stupid Politician #1:

Transport Minister Mark Bailey took aim at Mr Leavers, declaring his “ignorant and factually wrong diatribe is an embarrassment to the Queensland Police Union”.

“He should be working on rectifying the identified racism, misogyny and sexism in the force to make it an inclusive and lawful workplace,” Mr Bailey said.

Actually, if the QPS is an unlawful workplace, the Police Minister and Commissioner should be working the issue.

Stupid Politician #2:

Greens MP Michael Berkman offered a brief rebuke of the Queensland Police Union boss’s comments.

“Leavers’ unhinged rant doesn’t deserve to be published,” he said.
“He should resign.”

Talking Head #1:

Change the Record national director Maggie Munn said Mr Leavers was playing with people’s lives.

“As a proud Gunggari person, I appeal to every Queenslander to see Ian Leavers’ comments for what they really are: a despicable power grab which divides and terrorises our communities,” she said.

Talking Head #2:

Queensland Human Rights Commissioner Scott McDougall said Mr Leavers comments would divert energy from work to close the gap.

“In the aftermath of a referendum debate which exposed Queensland’s First Nations communities to harmful levels of racist discourse, it is reprehensible to create further harm with such divisive and inflammatory language,” he said.

So, no actual ‘truth’ Truth, then.

Leavers, on the response:

“The people I represent are on the front line.

“Not like the latte sippers in inner Brisbane who’ve never been to communities and see the violence and the mayhem and the destruction of lives that takes place.”

A Band-Aid ripped off.

Town of Victoria Park declines to lower Aboriginal flags to half-mast despite strong Yes vote
Peter DevlinPerthNow – Central
Thu, 26 October 2023 2:00AM
Comments

The Town of Victoria Park is pushing ahead with its plan for reconciliation but declined to lower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags to half-mast after the defeat of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament in the October 14 referendum.

Indigenous campaigners across Australia had called for a week of silence after the No result.

The City of Fremantle lowered its Indigenous flag for one week in respect of the local Aboriginal community after the referendum result.

A question from a member of the public gallery at the Town of Victoria Park Council’s October 17 meeting if it would do the same was greeted with laughter and snickering from other members of the gallery.

“Excuse me, members of the public gallery, you are not to express your disapproval or approval by any means that interrupt the meeting, and laughing is one of those,” Mayor Karen Vernon said.

“Please refrain from doing that. It was good enough for everyone else in the gallery not to do so. I won’t ask again.”

Sky Croeser, from East Victoria Park, had asked what action the council was going to take in response to calls for a week of mourning after the referendum result.

She said the area had voted “significantly” Yes in the “terrible” referendum.

“The Victoria Park polling booth returned 55 per cent Yes, Lathlain 57 per cent Yes, East Victoria Park south 64 per cent Yes, East Victoria Park 62 per cent Yes, and Carlisle 55 per cent Yes,” Ms Croeser said.

Her question was taken on notice.

Ms Croeser also asked if the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags would be flown at half-mast as a sign of respect.

This prompted laughter in the public gallery before CEO Anthony Vuleta answered no.

“They won’t be; we have protocols that we follow from the Federal Government so if we lower one flag, we lower all flags,” he said.

“We haven’t had any instruction to do that.”

Leavers doubles down, slams minister’s ‘vile’ criticism

The powerful union boss, who declared First Nations people were over represented in crime stats, insists he was sharing the views others were “too frightened” to share.

QLD police union boss calls out ‘inner-city latte sippers’ pushing treaty agenda

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers has responded to “vile” criticism directed at him from a senior minister after he said truth telling and treaty would give Indigenous people a free pass to commit crime.

The powerful union boss, who declared First Nations people were over represented in crime statistics, insisted he was sharing the views others were “too frightened” to share.

Those comments were slammed as “divisive and unhelpful” by Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.

Government ministers on Wednesday lined up to distance themselves from the union boss’s claim that its Path to Treaty was a feel-good exercise that was anti-police.

Ms Palaszczuk said Mr Leavers’ comments about Indigenous people, published by The Courier-Mail, were wrong.

“Let me say I disagree with the comments the QPU president has said,” she said.

Mr Leavers doubled down on his comments on Wednesday, declaring he was saying the things “people want to”.

“There’s been Cabinet ministers have a go at me but that’s part of life, that’s water off a duck’s back to me, I’m used to that,” he said.

“A lot of people want to say things, but they are too frightened to because you’ve seen the vile and the personal attacks come my way today.

“The people I represent are on the front line.

“Not like the latte sippers in inner Brisbane who’ve never been to communities and see the violence and the mayhem and the destruction of lives that takes place.”

Mr Leavers slammed the minister’s “vile” response.

“I don’t take anything Mark Bailey says takes seriously at all,” the union boss said.

Mr Bailey’s input on the issue, particularly his comment about fixing problems within the Queensland Police Service, forced Ms Palaszczuk to declare the “minister is not anti-police”.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said Mr Leavers had a right to express his views.

“I don’t agree with his comments today, and I’ve communicated that to the QPU,” he said.

Greens MP Michael Berkman offered a brief rebuke of the Queensland Police Union boss’s comments.

“Leavers’ unhinged rant doesn’t deserve to be published,” he said.

“He should resign.”

Change the Record national director Maggie Munn said Mr Leavers was playing with people’s lives.

“As a proud Gunggari person, I appeal to every Queenslander to see Ian Leavers’ comments for what they really are: a despicable power grab which divides and terrorises our communities,” she said.

“It’s clear to me that Ian is playing politics with people’s lives, our children’s lives – it’s a sad day when the pursuit of justice can become so politicised.”

Aunty Gucci for Governor General! Another step in rendering Australia ungovernable, should the plebs ever elect another Liberal Government!

Presumably Burney could continue to sign her name? Barring any 1975 type hijinks that is the extent of the GG role in day-to-day politics.

By the way, I’m still waiting for the source where Putin compared the current activities in Gaza to the siege of Leningrad.

Here is one report. It was widely covered.

There’s a delicate balancing act going on.

Not least because Russia is dependent on Iran for drones and seeking to expand the relationship.

Putin is a transactional politician; Russia “does not have allies, it has interests.”

“Putin is a transactional politician; Russia “does not have allies, it has interests.””

Yeah, no different to the USA which is now cautioning a nation that has seen over 1400 of its men, women and children butchered in cold blood.

The USA has zero moral authority.

And as for that report, Putin also said that Israel had a right to defend itself.

“It was widely covered.”

No, it wasn’t not widely covered.

“I don’t take anything Mark Bailey says takes seriously at all,” the union boss said.

Bailey led the push against Palaszczuk in caucus to re-affirm treaty after the referendum result and the LNP’s backtracking.

With Labor on 26% pf the primary vote according to their own pollsters, it’s going to be “interesting” to see how this plays out over the next 12 months.

Because Erdo?an controls the domestic media & has geo-blocked certain apps & websites, he can play his game of saying two things on the same day that are diametrically opposed.
They must colour code his speeches for which audience it’s going to.
Otherwise he say the “wrong” thing to the wrong people.
Shows why a genuinely free internet is paramount.

Sounds like Mr Leavers is representing his rank and file. The elite political class in the ALP is progressive uni graduates, and as we saw the Voice divide wasn’t left vs right it was progressives, Greens & Teals vs everyone else – including the industrial wing of the Labor Party.
