A bit more detail from the Paywallion:

Indigenous voice referendum ‘not my loss’, Anthony Albanese declares

By PAIGE TAYLOR
INDIGENOUS AFFAIRS CORRESPONDENT, WA BUREAU CHIEF

and JESS MALCOLM
REPORTER
26 Dec 2023

Anthony Albanese’s claim that his failed referendum was not a personal loss for him has sparked anger among top figures in the Yes campaign, with one Aboriginal leader indicating the remarks were proof white Australia would take no responsibility for the voice’s rejection.

The Prime Minister said on Monday the result was not “a loss for him” because he was not Indigenous and the debate was not about politicians.

He also said in an interview on Sydney radio 2GB that Aboriginal Australians disappointed by the referendum result were “used to hardship” and Labor would continue to work to close the gap.

Leading figures in the failed push for constitutional change immediately picked up on Mr Albanese’s remarks, with some claiming it as confirmation he believes the defeat belongs to them and not him despite Labor’s central role in the campaign.

At the Exodus Foundation in Sydney’s inner west on Monday while he was helping to serve Christmas Day lunch to the poor, Mr Albanese was asked about his year and “some big losses” such as the defeat of the voice at the ballot box last October.

“Oh, no, no, no, no, very important to call that out. I am not Indigenous so it wasn’t a loss to me,” the Labor leader said.

“That stays exactly the same the way it is. I do think that it was disappointing for First Nations people but they’re used to you know, getting the, they’re used to hardship. It’s been the case for 200 years, and they are resilient and we will continue to do what we can to provide for closing the gap.

“But it’s one of the things about this debate, it was never about politicians, it was actually about the most disadvantaged people in our society.”

One figure in the Yes campaign criticised Mr Albanese for claiming no sense of personal loss after championing the referendum, including in his election-night victory speech in May last year.

Another called on Labor to commission a review of the “referendum debacle” and the Albanese government’s role in it.

“Blacks did the work for seven years and Labor killed it,” one said.

Indigenous leader Sean Gordon, who supported the voice in an alliance with constitutional conservatives, agreed with Mr Albanese that Indigenous Australians were resilient people. Mr Gordon was a member of Mr Albanese’s referendum working group.

When asked about the Prime Minister’s assertion that the voice defeat was no loss for him, Mr Gordon replied that this was the issue for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, who comprised a small percentage of the population.

“It’s the challenge of our 3.7 per cent,” Mr Gordon said.

“Regardless of the issue or the outcome, the 96.3 per cent white Australia are able to comfortably move forward without any ownership, responsibility or accountability for the result.”

The proposal for an Indigenous advisory body with a constitutional guarantee predated Mr Albanese’s prime ministership by more than a decade. It was the subject of reports and inquiries and it was the option favoured by a clear majority of Indigenous people who took part in the Uluru Dialogues held around Australia in 2016 and 2017.

Polling showed Australians were in favour of the concept for some five years and remained in favour after Mr Albanese announced in May last year that he would take the voice question to a referendum.

Support for a constitutionally enshrined voice began to slide in the first half of 2023, after the Coalition parties’ formalised their opposition to it, but before the final words of the proposed amendment had been settled. Ultimately, 61 per cent of Australians voted no to the voice on referendum day.

On Monday, Peter Dutton described the voice as Mr Albanese’s project. “The PM was obsessed with the voice for the best part of 18 months,” the Opposition Leader said.

“ He told Australians they were “chicken littles” if they opposed it, and he needlessly divided Australians. It’s remarkable he’s now saying it wasn’t about him. The PM is distracted and not focused on the issues that matter.

“He should reflect on these comments about his pet project – the voice – and make life easier, not harder, for Australians. The PM was so obsessed with the voice and being overseas that he missed the opportunities in his two budgets to make decisions to relieve cost-of-living pressures. It’s really hurt Australians and they are feeling the pain Mr Albanese created.”

The Prime Minister reflected on the Voice referendum in an interview with 2GB after initially leaving it out of his end-of-year recap video.

“I’m not Indigenous so it wasn’t a loss for me. It stays exactly the same way it is. I do think that it was disappointing for First Nations people but, you know, they are used to hardship … they are resilient,” he said.

Hardship after all those billions spent on indigenous welfare? Albo, why not authorise a Royal Commission into how the money is spent? Could it be because the white indigenous activists have snaffled most of the billions?

Police arrested a 21-year-old Brunswick woman over the stunt and issued her an infringement notice for carrying a box cutter, which is classified as a controlled weapon by police.

So, this skank gets an “infringement notice”. The skank commits an illegal act and in doing so the skank takes a weapon onto a stage where there are children.

I suppose this is yet more “letting off steam”, and I suppose this is yet more of the supine, spineless, craven police tactics of “monitoring the situation”. So, what will it take?

Hear this, there will be an attack on the Jewish community, not if but WHEN. This Jew does not feel safe, and don’t anyone tell me I’m engaging in hyperbole. I am not.

When will the monitoring stop? When there are corpses on a street?

I’m sorry, I’m so over this.

A “box cutter”. Now, what does that remind me of?
There’s a 22 year old reason why simple Stanley knives are now considered dangerous.
On a stage with children, too.

Earlier I thought it was sloppy security checking that the Palestinian flags were easily smuggled in. A box cutter takes it to a new level of official negligence. Is anyone going to ask Jacinta Allen to explain that?

I’m still considering that Stanley knife. Why did she have it and what was she going to do with it?

And why did they wait until there were children on stage? I wonder what type of “protest” she had auditioned in her mind only to have those two little ones firmly escorted off before she could do her thing?

All that was left was to stride over to Campbell, take the mic and scream a pathetic slogan about “children dying in Gaza”. Something was on her mind, and perhaps it was something horrible.

She’ll need to be watched. VicPol is onto it as I type. /sarc

Also I have never read any Russian authors. Again, any suggestions of where I should start (War and Peace?)?

For Jane Austen, start with Pride And Prejudice. It best describes the social classes and attitudes of the Regency era.

The only Russian author I can recommend is Tolstoy, all others are completely imbued in the Russian nihilism.

Albo is broken.

There are so many things that need to be addressed – cost of living, the release of sociopathic illegal immigrants whose own nations don’t want in their societies, the fact we cannot even send one naval vessel to support our major ally to whom we are bound by the newly inked AUKUS, yet we are praised by the terror group Hamas, and by the covetous thuggish ethno-state China.

Not a single thing has improved since Albo got in – except that there are fewer days remaining of his term than there were back then.

But still he wants to talk about the decomposing carcass of the stillborn Voice.

He makes me think of a Captain of a submarine in a dire situation – flooded compartments, engines down, enemy above dropping depth charges their detonations pounding against the hull – and amidst this stress the Captain retreats to his cabin, trying to hide from the danger by immersing himself in some pointless obsessive behaviour such as trying to work out other routes he might have taken to get to his destination that would not have brought him here.

Toiling away pointlessly and, with each report of a new calamity, he ramps up his frantic activity further. Wrapping himself up tight in this figurative blanket waiting for the monsters to go away.

Usman Khawaja has taken fresh aim at the ICC for blocking his request to wear stickers of a dove with an olive branch on his bat and shoes, blasting the governing body for “double standards.”

That came after Australian captain Pat Cummins labelled Khawaja’s request as “pretty vanilla,” suggesting that he cannot see the difference between the dove and the Bible-verse and eagle adorned on teammate Marnus Labuschagne’s bat.

The ICC confirmed late on Sunday night that Khawaja’s request to wear stickers of a dove holding an olive branch as well as a reference to Article 1 of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights during the Boxing Day Test had been denied.

Won’t link the whole article.

Post-Christmas day and in search of peace, something that has to be said, and is said well.. Benjamin Netanyahu’s message for Abrahamic World Peace in Gaza.
From the Wall Street Journal. Apologies if already put up elsewhere. Recent articles both local and internationally sourced in the Australian have been very firm re Israel, for which this paper is to be congratulated.

My three prerequisites for peace with Palestinians

By BENJAMIN NETANYAHU

Hamas must be destroyed, Gaza must be demilitarised, and Palestinian society must be deradicalised. These are the three prerequisites for peace between Israel and its Palestinian neighbours in Gaza.

First, Hamas, a key Iranian proxy, must be destroyed. The U.S., U.K., France, Germany and many other countries support Israel’s intention to demolish the terror group. To achieve that goal, its military capabilities must be dismantled and its political rule over Gaza must end. Hamas’s leaders have vowed to repeat the Oct. 7 massacre “again and again.” That is why their destruction is the only proportional response to prevent the repeat of such horrific atrocities. Anything less guarantees more war and more bloodshed.

In destroying Hamas, Israel will continue to act in full compliance with international law. This is especially challenging because an integral part of Hamas’s strategy is to use Palestinian civilians as human shields. Hamas places its terrorist infrastructure inside and underneath homes, hospitals, mosques, schools and other civilian sites, deliberately putting the Palestinian population at risk.

Israel does its best to minimise civilian casualties by dropping leaflets, sending text messages and using other means to warn Gazans to get out of harm’s way. Hamas by contrast does its utmost to keep Palestinians in harm’s way — often at gunpoint.

Unjustly blaming Israel for these casualties will only encourage Hamas and other terror organisations around the world to use human shields. To render this cruel and cynical strategy ineffective, the international community must place the blame for these casualties squarely on Hamas. It must recognise that Israel is fighting the bigger battle of the civilised war against barbarism.

Second, Gaza must be demilitarised. Israel must ensure that the territory is never again used as a base to attack it. Among other things, this will require establishing a temporary security zone on the perimeter of Gaza and an inspection mechanism on the border between Gaza and Egypt that meets Israel’s security needs and prevents smuggling of weapons into the territory.

The expectation that the Palestinian Authority will demilitarise Gaza is a pipe dream. It currently funds and glorifies terrorism in Judea and Samaria and educates Palestinian children to seek the destruction of Israel. Not surprisingly it has shown neither the capability nor the will to demilitarise Gaza. It failed to do so before Hamas booted it out of the territory in 2007, and it has failed to do so in the territories under its control today. For the foreseeable future Israel will have to retain overriding security responsibility over Gaza.

Third, Gaza will have to be deradicalised. Schools must teach children to cherish life rather than death, and imams must cease to preach for the murder of Jews. Palestinian civil society needs to be transformed so that its people support fighting terrorism rather than funding it.

That will likely require courageous and moral leadership. Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas can’t even bring himself to condemn the Oct. 7 atrocities. Several of his ministers deny that the murders and rapes happened or accuse Israel of perpetrating these horrific crimes against its own people. Another threatened that a similar attack would be carried out in Judea and Samaria.

Successful deradicalisation took place in Germany and Japan after the Allied victory in World War II. Today, both nations are great allies of the U.S. and promote peace, stability and prosperity in Europe and Asia.

More recently, since the 9/11 attacks, visionary Arab leaders in The Gulf have led efforts to deradicalise their societies and transform their countries. Israel has since forged the historic Abraham Accords and today enjoys peace agreements with six Arab states. Such a cultural transformation will be possible in Gaza only among Palestinians who don’t seek the destruction of Israel.

Once Hamas is destroyed, Gaza is demilitarised and Palestinian society begins a deradicalisation process, Gaza can be rebuilt and the prospects of a broader peace in the Middle East will become a reality.
Mr. Netanyahu is Israel’s prime minister.

One would suppose that Israel has some plans in place regarding how to achieve this. Personally, although many think the Netanyahu is gone post the cessation of hostilities I hope that is not so and that a man of his fortitude can oversight what is hopefully an international group working on the reconstruction and deradicalization in Gaza and the West Bank, in peace and goodwill to all.

Wife of Kununurra cop speaks out on not guilty verdict for 10-year-old car ramming offender
Katya MinnsBroome Advertiser
Tue, 26 December 2023 2:00AM

The wife of a Kununurra cop who was nearly hit by a stolen car full of children has expressed her frustration at the 10-year-old driver being found not guilty because he did not know it was “morally wrong”.

Relief teacher and mother-of-two Dominique Wood said she “thought (her) husband was joking” when he told her the boy had been acquitted of all charges despite driving directly at him in a stolen Toyota Prado during a dangerous police chase.

“I was very shocked to hear that there was no consequence for his actions, and he was let off,” she said.

Magistrate Michelle Ridley handed down her reasons for the not-guilty verdict on December 13, criticising police prosecution for their questioning of the boy during an interview conducted on May 8 in Kununurra.

Despite stating she was satisfied the boy had been the driver of the Prado, that he knew right from wrong and had no disabilities or cognitive issues, Magistrate Ridley concluded he did not understand the severity of his offending.

“I think her role is to ensure that justice prevails and that she actually weighs up the rights of the accused, but also keeps in mind public safety,” Ms Wood said.

Belated Christmas wishes to all Cats and Kittehs from Chez Lizzie and Hairy, yesterday reverting as in many past Christmases into Villa Chaos with happy children’s shrieks of anticipation and joy. We had mainly immediate family with spouses and their offspring (those still in town) yesterday, making thirteen, in contrast to the days of yore where we also had my brother’s large family and Big Sis’s tribe too. There were times back then, in our large house with a pool, where we had over 30 for Christmas lunch, on a number of trestle tables in both the house and garden. Now my father, mother, brother and my oldest nephew (Big Sis’s son) are all departed this life, and Big Sis has moved into Supported Living. Christmas tends to gather now around separate immediate families of descent, and we who are now ‘elders’ become matriarchs and patriarchs of our own clans.

As we age, Christmas becomes so full of our memories, and I hope all Cats and Kittehs were blessed with some good ones, ably assisted by a huge excess, according to inclination, of feasting and imbibing.

Usman, the ICC have saw through your facade.

Fine him until he, and all sportspeople, get the message that there must be absolutely no politics in sport. Go hard until they get the message.

That includes Captain Climate. One green peep from him and he needs to be flattened by the ICC and Cricket Australia.

The fiascos of Rugby Australia and Colin Kaepernick should have taught a few lessons, but they just keep doing it. So zero tolerance has to be the way, and anyone who tries it on should be penalized until they glow.

I am going now to raise The Patriarch from our second-best bed, for we ceded our best bed and harbour view and ensuite to daughter and her husband, who have now left for a stay with friends in faraway Yamba, nearly back to Queensland. I have my study back now that the three children sleeping in it have woken and gone with them too.

Next Christmas I have decided I need to appoint a Reminder Person, rather like an old-style Sin Eater, someone who will remind me to do things I overlook – like yesterday, so pre-occupied was I with turkey, ham and roast vegies being hot and ready, I forgot to put out the stuffing from the turkey for the cafeteria self-serve around the kitchen, and I also clean forgot the Christmas fruits – so I now have mangos, cherries, blueberries and strawberries galore still in the fridges. My breakfast has been a Freddo Frog from the Gingerbread House lucky dip finished off with what life should always be – a bowl of cherries. I can’t argue with that.

Speaking of lesbians (the Hun):

A lesbian couple on their first date at a Crown casino bar was allegedly arrested by security guards moments after they shared a kiss, court papers claim.

Sharon Cosgrove, 59, is suing Crown and the State of Victoria for “highly offensive” and discriminatory conduct by security and police after she and another woman were detained following some “light kissing”.

You just know there’s going to be more to this.

Ms Cosgrove states that she entered Crown with her date and bought a glass of red wine at Lumia bar, where they sat together as five security guards stood nearby watching them.

Yep. Because five security guards picked them at random. Because they didn’t draw attention to themselves beforehand at all.

The couple briefly and lightly kissed while sitting at the table at the bar, at which point it is alleged Crown security ordered them to leave the casino.

“The order to leave was made ostensibly on the basis that the (couple) were intoxicated, which was false, but was in truth made on the basis of sexual discrimination against two lesbians who were engaging in light kissing and touching,” court papers state.

Every public bar in Melbourne encourages lesbian attendance.

Soon after, it’s alleged they “totally restrained” her, holding her down with “excessive force” despite there being “no lawful justification” for her arrest.

It’s alleged she was handcuffed before being taken to the Casino’s basement, then to the Custody Centre in the back of a police divvy van.

Because they were lesbians in public. In Melbourne. Riiiiight.

Slater and Gordon

Of course.

public liability lawyer Oliver Robertson said what Ms Cosgrove experienced was “unacceptable”.

“No one deserves to be profiled, harassed and assaulted in public on account of their sexual orientation,” he said.

Yeah nah nah nah yeah nah.

Crown confirmed it “will be defending the matter”, suggesting the gaming giant doesn’t agree with the allegations.

Please let this be subject to intense publicity.

As for ‘leeching off the nearest male’ look my way if you must, you hopeless case who knows nothing of how husbands and wives can love each other dearly regardless of material circumstances or differing social origins. Cassie is the most independent woman, caring now for her elderly mother. That said, I wish life had offered Cassie the comfort and security of a loving Jewish husband, as she has herself often said, here and to me, for finding (and keeping) such love can be a rocky road. As Cassie is still a relatively young and attractive woman, I hope more love is yet to be found. In my family we don’t let age get in our way – my Big Sis found a lasting love at age 72 after five failed marriages; this couple are eleven years now into a shared Darby and Joan twilight in ‘independent’ supported care. Women are a commodity/resource.

They are used to produce the next generation on men for protection/warfare.

Why do you think they weren’t wiped out in tribal warfare?

Once victory was achieved, then men from the old tribe were wiped out, the women were kept to breed the next generation.

This carries through symbolically even in marriage today.

Millions have been slaughtered all through human history, all in horrible way, yet we give one particular group special privileges above others.

Think on this.

The perpetrators were drawn from the most civilised of Western nations after all of the technological marvels of that civilisation had been developed. Yet the ideological cold-blooded slaughter of one category of humans, the inhuman ‘disposal’ of one historical category of men, women and children within our own Western world, could still occur. And our populations were largely complicit until roused to moral fortitude by Winston Churchill.

This was no thousand-times-before outrage of a maurading Ghengis Khan, nor a Communist-bred socio-political disaster that we might expect from such tyrannies, this was done by a nation displaying the best of us, our cultural heights, and to some of the best of us, our cultural leading lights.

That is why we remember and abhor the Holocaust of the Jews, above all others.

It is why we say, with Israel, never again. We won’t put up with it. It stands for all of the inhuman activities that a claimed creation of a loving god can produce, all of the evil of which mankind is capable. It is a statement of human volition, the good in us, that we will not see this ever happen again within our civilisation. Also, that we will oppose such ‘genocides’ everywhere, by every means.

Australian team is too “white”

You’ll notice how no one ever says a team from Africa is too black or there aren’t enough whites in it (in fact there are none at all).

Same with Asian sporting teams.

Khawaja is an ungrateful, entitled brat, given an opportunity in the national team when he was not born here.

If he was a white immigrant to his native Pakistan there is no way he would be selected for a national team.

Odd that. The Beloved gave two daughters away. In his wedding speeches, and I’ll paraphrase because it’s a long time ago…

Today I gave () away. But you can’t give away something you don’t own, it’s like giving away sunshine. But I did have the delight of her for a few short years, to raise, to teach, to play with, to bask in her success. And now it’s all up to you…to love her, to enjoy being with her, to start it all over again with a new family.

Look after her as best you can…or that brother of hers over there will hunt you down to the ends of the earth and…just kidding. No, I’m not.

Quite so. I think he got a 7 for in an Ashes Test in England.

He was also a very good Captain for NSW who tutored Mark Taylor in the art.
If NSW batted first, He was always very keen to have a bowl on the first day. So, all out for 315 at 5:00 pm was the target. He was mindful of the fact the games were only 4 days long and you had to bowl out the other side twice to win.

Cummins is dirty on the fact that Indians run world crickit and have no time for Mueslis.
Just as he very bravely stood up to Alinta (because coal) but was strangely silent about T20 World Cup and IPL sponsor Saudi Aramco.

‘Resign’: Benjamin Netanyahu is ‘putting the lives of Israelis at risk’ (Sky, 26 Dec)

Former Labor senator Stephen Conroy has called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “resign” because he’s “so desperate” to keep his position and is “putting the lives of Israelis at risk”.
”’
“He should resign and allow someone else to take charge who doesn’t have a completely ludicrous position of ‘I’m going to wipe Hamas out’ – that’s like saying the entire Western world were going to wipe the Taliban out – well, that didn’t go so well.

No son, your ignorance is only exceeded by your nastiness. The Israeli government is a unity war cabinet from the full spectrum of Israeli politics. Gantz is a big dog in it, he’s centre left. Even Lapid was saying that Hamas must be destroyed, Lapid is far-left.

Iran vows revenge as Israel kills senior general

By AFP
AFP
12:30PM December 26, 2023

An Israeli strike in Syria has killed a senior general with Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, the military force said, with Tehran vowing retribution.

The incident further raises tension in the Middle East where Iran-aligned groups have escalated attacks since Iran-backed Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on October 7, triggering a war with Israel.

Iranian state media also reported the death of Razi Moussavi, describing him as “one of the most experienced advisers” of Quds Force, the foreign arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

There was no immediate comment from Israel, which has intensified attacks in Syria, particularly against Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah movement, since the Israel-Hamas war began.

Moussavi is the most senior Quds Force commander to be killed outside Iran since General Qasem Soleimani. A US drone strike in Baghdad nearly four years ago — on January 3, 2020 — killed Soleimani, the Quds Force leader.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed condolences for Moussavi’s death, saying Israel “will certainly pay for this crime”.

The general “was killed during an attack by the Zionist regime a few hours ago in Zeinabiyah district in the suburbs of Damascus,” official news agency IRNA reported, using a different name for Sayyida Zeinab south of the Syrian capital.

Moussavi was “active in the field of providing logistic support to the axis of resistance in Syria,” IRNA said, referring to groups backed by Tehran and arrayed against Israel.

An IGRC statement said a “missile attack” killed Moussavi, and vowed to avenge his death.
