Cummins taking on responsibility as a somewhat early night watchman hasn’t succeeded. The little Highveld Battler is in to save us.

He just hit a three, which outscores his first innings of 2 from 52 balls.

Aaaannnd … then he leaves an inswinger from Bumrah.
Hits him on the pads.
Looks plumb LBW.
Ump agrees and gives it.
But no.
The moron emulates his idol McSniffy and challenges it.
The DRS shows it knocking over middle and off.
3/12 chasing 500+ and one DRS burnt.

The way he went to leave it and then re-adjust looked like a spastic. Big clean out and retirements coming very soon, but no Allan Border apparent.

Bit of a tough ask, I reckon… expecting a BATsman to use his BAT in this era of Australian cricket wokism is beyond the pale… After all said and done Labuschagne only earns $1.2m per year to use his BAT so we really shouldn’t expect him to actually use it…

Cop who killed Ashli Babbitt has ‘significant’ discipline history, including gun incidents: Report.
I’m naturally averse to conspiracy theories, both due to what I perceive as the impracticality and the absence of credible motivation, but I find the events surrounding the 6th of January 2020, at the U.S Capitol to be one of the most suspicious events of my lifetime.

Don’t worry about the cricket. Andrew MacDonald extended his contract prior to the summer. FMD.
To be honest, it’s a marriage made in heaven. Mediocre cricketer coaches mediocre side.
Fat, comfortable arseholes with no feel for the game and what it means to this country. Like Cricket Australia asking parasites if they can have a match on Australia Day.
Get out of the way.

Also of sporting note, Manchester City 0-4 Tottenham Hotspur.
5 losses in a row for this side. The mighty Reds can extend the lead at the top to 8 points overnight

This is from an old Punch magazine:
He: “Hello, here’s Smith out for a duck again”.
She: “Did he explain how he made no runs?”
He: “Well, you see, he happened to go in just when Jones was in the middle of his hat trick”.?

One of the “true believers” over on Andrew Bolt assuring us that the first act of the Whitlam Government, when elected, was to withdraw the Australian troops from Vietnam…Words fail me!

In the image of the heroic John Curtin, who apparently ‘saved Australia’ by demanding the withdrawal of two of the three surviving AIF divisions from the Middle East. Labor never wanted to send a second AIF overseas, but what is often lost is that in doing so, Australia gained both combat experience and the necessary equipment to later fight the jungle war. Retaining all of our troops at home would have gained us neither.

“In the image of the heroic John Curtin, who apparently saved Australia” from a Japanese invasion, which he had been advised was not likely to occur, and there were more then enough soldiers, both Australian and American to defend this country, but went on beating the big drum to stop the work force going on strike…

Curtin’s “beating the big drum to stop the work force going on strike” was probably his greatest contribution.

Even then there was still a lot of industrial trouble. Could Menzies have handled it any better?

My ego demanded I copy and paste this from the tail end of the last page, replying to Roger’s comment about the uniparty:

They are two identical buckets of steaming excrement from the same source. One markets itself as a ‘Family Bucket’ and other as a ‘Business Bucket (pronounced ‘Bouquet’).’

As much as KD hates left-handers, he’s going to have to admit that the new 7/11 opener is pure class.

We don’t have 7/11 in Tassie but we do have about 30 United Service Stations and every one of them have only Indians working there. As such our description for the Indian Cricketers is the Uniteds….

How depressing:

Anyway, “Sliante” to you mob.

I’m having an evening inhaling a couple of good single malts, reading John Terraine’s classic book “1918 – The year Of Victory” and reflecting on why I should pay the Tax Office many thousands of dollars for the priveledge of funding my own retirement.

I’m not a military expert, but have the feeling that the “Rocketman” has the same idea by sending N Korean troops to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
For the loss of a relatively few troops they gain valuable experience in real combat.

Theory is good but goes only so far and the N Korean army hadn’t seen any action since the real war, and that was a long time ago.

Goosestepping on parade doesn’t cut it.

This is the WSJ but not paywalled. Also not what you’d expect.
Decline and Fall of America? Not Yet

Trump appears to have broken the codependency of the woke and averted a destructive revolution.

For the past four years Israel has been the leader of the free world. The Jewish state has been the West’s sole protection against Islamist terror, fighting while reviled by the people and countries it was protecting. Its position was similar to that of Donald Trump—demonized, persecuted, targeted for violence.

Now that Israel and the U.S. will again be allies, we can hope Iran will be returned to the Iranian people, Gaza will become a wealthy city-state, and there will be that biblical peace in which each may sit under his fig tree and be unafraid.

At this moment in time, Jasprit Bumrah is playing his 41st Test and is holding a bowling average of 19.94. WTF?

I saw a vid and story on Cricinfo about him showing how his release point is a good yard or so closer to the batsman than other bowlers. Side on vision showed him at 45 degrees with arm fully extended before he let go of the pill. Lots of LBWs. McSweeney today. Steve Smith first ball etc.

My first comment,

Imagine having the entire Western intelligence and security apparatus fixated on NK troops involved in combat on the Russo-Ukraine front and still not being able to produce any footage at all.

Footage. You’re completely obsessed with this “footage” nonsense. How exactly do you propose obtaining this miraculous “footage”? Should the BBC kindly ask Pukin if they can film from the Russian side of the war to interview nork soldiers? You’ve also insisted on drone footage for proof. So, you’re expecting a Ukrainian drone to politely buzz over to Russian troops and ask, “Hey, are you Norks?” Utterly senseless babble.

As for this purported ’30 soldiers to one interpreter’, that’s an interpreter in every platoon. Practically workable. If a lieutenant is bilingual or has a translator, captain commands the lieutenant and then lieutenant commands his squads in their native language. Job done,

As I’ve said, that theory works at the beginning, before entering a hot zone. After that, all bets are off, which is what I’ve referred to—when communication becomes key.
You know, peddling for authoritarian regimes is something else. I bet if Putin and ISIS were on the same side, ISIS wouldn’t look as bad. After all, you seem to have a soft spot for the mullahs who heroically pick off young women for not conforming to their fashion tastes, then rape and kill them. Nice regime you have there.
