Cost of offshore wind

RUPERT DARWALL ON THE BRITISH EXPERIENCE

Offshore wind was never going to happen here due to the real cost and also the wind droughts at sea demonstrated by King Island which still draws half its power from diesel despite megabucks spent on wind, solar and batteries.

Another issue which Aus will have with wind up and down the east coast is the complete collapse of prices during the day sue to rooftop solar.

Look at any coastal town’s windrose, and you’ll see a large chunk of usable wind is on a summer’s afternoon when the sea breezes kick in.

I can just image conversations among the visiting aliens. They can reach the Moon but still rely on windmills. Let’s move on.

At the risk of sounding tediously repetitive (my only skill in life): The policy makers don’t fear us, so why would they listen to individuals or groups they neither respect nor fear? (What’s in it for them?).

You know, in order to take advantage of the SE Trade winds, perhaps build the offshore windmills on top of the various cays that make up the GBR?

You know it makes sense.

Ha ha. On tp of the sacred GBR? What about the tourists? Far better in the Queensland rainforest, where they can’t be seen, and critics can be safely ignored.
