To all those Cats thinking that Dr Mutton has supposedly received an emergency spine transplant, it’s too little, too late.
What we’ll allegedly be voting on later this year was always a coup d’etat (as opposed to an Auto-da-fé*) engineered by collectivists to end the seemingly interminable sham that is “Australian Parliamentary Democracy”.
If it gets up (and this time it won’t) then that’s the end of “The Australian Project”.
*Which is what they should deservedly be gifted with, culminating in the profound and mighty cleansing ritual that is HOP Time™. 🙂

Dr Duk – I watched the Avi expose on twatter today and what you were subjected to was indisputable evidence that we exist in a banana republic.
You now need to go after the keystone cops that tried to frame you. Terminator style.

Cats, who was the German “philosopher” that made a prediction in the late 18th Century that the Krauts would eventually go ballistic and what was his legendary quote? I can’t find it and the google fu is not delivering.
Something along the lines of: “I fear that Germans will unleash some mighty previously unimagined destruction upon this planet in the next century” (allowing for lots of poetic licence) … 😕

I should have been more precise.
If you have them on your reader like I do, and they have auto update enabled, they can be overwritten by a newer version. I first tumbled to this when I realised the books were being ‘updated’ and covers being changed. I found it irritating because I recognised books by the covers – not necessarily by the titles. When I bought a new reader, the books data files couldn’t be copied to an SD card and transferred to the new reader. The entire library had to be downloaded over the net again.
Essentially I wanted my library on a central desktop and able to be also on a reader so I wouldn’t have to go through the process again. But that seems to be the old method. I can have them on a reader or the desktop – just not both.
When you go through the rights you have, they can be changed to whatever payment service Amazon wants and you have no recourse. They can, theoretically, change it to a pay per view model and even though you have paid for the original copy, you can still be charged. It’s entirely up to them and I do not trust Amazon to hold my sunk costs over my head.
That’s why I want to change my library to a PDF format – so I don’t lose them.

OK, now I understand .
I don’t have a Kindle reader, I use my Android phone, and as soon as I download the books I connect the phone to the PC and transfer them, this way I could read it on the PC as well, there is an app ‘Kindle for PC’ you can download. Also every time they muck about with the Kindle reader you can simply re-copy the books from the PC.

“What happened to the Easter Islanders?
Anybody know?”
Before or after Europeans arrived? There is good evidence to prove that by the time Europeans arrived, Easter Island or “Rapa Nui ” was in decline, and this was probably because it was cut off and isolated from other human societies. It was a small island with limited resources and the end result was societal stagnation. I wrote a comment a day or two ago about the problems of societies that are isolated from other humans. Such isolation limits human advancement. Human history attests to the fact that we advance when peoples and societies collide/collude/conflict and collaborate. That’s how we advance, by sharing ideas, either through conflict or collaboration.
After Europeans arrived, the Easter Islander population was decimated due to two factors, one was the introduction of European diseases and the other was that many Rapa Nuis were forcibly enslaved and taken to South America. It’s a sad story.

“For some time now, our whole European culture has been moving with a tortured tension that is growing from decade to decade, as toward a catastrophe: restlessly, violently, headlong, like a river that wants to reach the end, that no longer reflects, that is afraid to reflect.”

Rabz, I think your quote may be Heine. This quote at his Wikipedia page:
…. German thunder is of true Germanic character; it is not very nimble, but rumbles along ponderously. Yet, it will come and when you hear a crashing such as never before has been heard in the world’s history, then you know that the German thunderbolt has fallen at last. At that uproar the eagles of the air will drop dead, and lions in the remotest deserts of Africa will hide in their royal dens. A play will be performed in Germany which will make the French Revolution look like an innocent idyll….
Colonel, it was someone I’d never heard of.
Especially not the Nyeechee or the Jung un.
I first saw it on the ol Cat.
Thanks areff, but that’s not it either.
It was short – one, two sentences max. Something like:
I foresee germans visiting great evil upon this world …
Apologies, areff – that may be it, but yet, I thought I read a more succinct version.

They believe their own bullshit. Their narrative of happy coexistence between tribes and clans over limited resources goes against everything we know about human nature and nature in general.
Aboriginal place names typically involves a losing clan that has rivals get the chocolates which are naming rights for places. These clans often coexist in the same towns, which explains much of the arson that occurs. City whitefellas are as ignorant as the Pacific is wide.
