From the outset I will acknowledge that most Cats couldn’t care less about the truculent and petulant behaviour of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle. Conversely, many Cats will acknowledge with gratitude, and perhaps awe, the unswerving devotion to duty and service displayed by the late Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles has some mighty big shoes to fill.
I was one of millions who watched the Coronation on the weekend partly because of the pomp and ceremony but also because it was world history unfolding before our eyes. Nobody younger than around 80 years old will have living memory of the previous Coronation. And, in all likelihood, it is unlikely I will live to see William ascend to the Throne so, a bit like making out the faint blurry glow of Halley’s Comet in 1986, this was my one opportunity to witness a rare event.
It is a matter of public record that Prince Harry attended the Coronation alone whilst Meghan remained ensconced in California with their children – one of whom was celebrating their 4th birthday on the same day. Apparently, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had demanded the newly crowned King give some sort of ‘shout out’ to the child to acknowledge the birthday but Charles, possibly acting on the advice of his protocol advisers, declined. Alternatively, Charles was still smarting over the assorted slights Harry had made about the Royal family in general and Queen Camilla his wife, in particular, in the book ‘Spare’.
In any event, Harry’s new book has damaged the cohesion of the royal family and to the glee of monarchists, also inflicted some damage on the royal institution. In fairness, that their family is just as dysfunctional as many others has been publicly apparent for the past forty years or so.
Anyway, I get it. Bad blood exists and Meghan will not contemplate any retreat. She and her husband Harry stepped away from that life and are now ‘independent’ and living in the USA. Normally, I also don’t give the Markles one single thought but the sight of Harry walking solo into Westminster Abbey depicted him as lonely and dare I say, emasculated.
In the Sussex’s (or just Meghan’s) battle with the Crown, I think they have made a significant strategic error. They have further isolated themselves from the very institution that is their raison d’etre and the quasi ghost of Edward the Eighth hangs across Harry – all for ‘that woman’. Yet most of all I wondered about the eventual pull of his blood relatives over time. Can Harry resist the call of his home country and heritage – after all, his father is the King and his own brother will be the King – or will Harry resist and stand by Meghan in the relatively uncultured wilds of California. Will their children know their cousins and the deep history of the British Monarchy?
Then it dawned on me…… don’t know, don’t care. These fleeting thoughts of Harry and that Markle woman have occupied far too much of my viewing pleasure.
God save the King.
Harry and Meghan, two of the most vile, self entitled, low IQ, egotistical, common, vulgar, tawdry, common, and unseemly human beings on the planet.
The ambitious, scheming Meghan thought that, upon marrying Harry, she’d be top gal in the UK. To her consternation and her fury, she wasn’t. It doesn’t work out like that in a monarchy. Hereditary monarchies are ruthless, they have to be, there’s a pecking order, and it’s rigid. Meghan was a B-grade actress who nobody had heard when she hitched up with a fairly low IQ, nice (he was at that time), handsome spare. It’s pretty clear she manipulates his emotional and psychological fragility. She’s become his mummy.
Once upon a time there’s no way a member of the British royal family would have been allowed to marry a woman of her background, and you can see why they had such rules. And therein lies the rub, Markle comes from completely dysfunctional stock. Unlike other commoners who married into royal families, be it Grace Kelly, Mary Donaldson, Letizia in Spain, they might be commoners, and Grace was an actress (unlike Meghan, Grace was Queen of Hollywood when she married Prince Rainier), but here’s the clue, they all came from rock solid families. They were and are classy women. Meghan Markle is not classy. As someone wrote on the OT (or cited someone), Meghan is “Wall Mart Wallis”. Ruthless but apt, very apt.
Anyway, watching Harry the other night, I found him pathetic. He did the right thing by attending his father’s coronation but he struck me as being a prop nobody wanted there. You could see his discomfort, he didn’t belong, he’s a shell of the man he was. Instead he now belongs in that hideously shallow and vacuous land that is called California, parroting rubbish, preaching to others about climate change whilst hiring private jets to travel to a polo match in Colorado, and spending too much time on a therapist couch blaming everyone for his problems except himself.
God save King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Indeed. Though it’s interesting to see the tectonic plates of UK Royalty(a.k.a. tradition) grinding up against those of the new world in areas of behaviour, style, language, lifestyle and family choices.
End Game: She will dump him as soon as she finds a better host or King C/3 offers 50M “go-away” money
this happened very early on in their relationship.
Remember when Harry was an upstanding, virile helicopter pilot who flew missions in Afghanistan?
Meghan stepped into the frame less than a year after his military career.
How far he has fallen.
She probably imagined she would be hailed as the Princess Diana of the next generation.
Ahem, speedy – don’t you mean “the glee of republicans”?
Didn’t watch the corroboration, and don’t know much about Barry & Teegan. I was very upset when Charli left Hi5 though.
The reality is that Queen was the bearer of some very ordinary DNA through the Guelphs and her Mothers family, so Prince Philip was brought in to get the Lineage back on a Royal track.
Once he’d fathered Charles he was removed from the Royal Pasture for 33 years until the Stuart descendant, Diana Spencer came into the picture.
Back into the Stud barn he went and 9 months later, voila, Prince William.
The likelihood is that Prince Harry is also the Duke’s son.
It appears likely
that Markle has been paid to take him out the Line of Succession, one way or another.
Not to mention one of the most beautiful women in human history, something that Markle trailer trash most certainly is not.
Having said that, Grace Kelly was allegedly quite the nymphomaniac. I still chuckle when thinking of Khrushchev’s glorious line in “the Death of Stalin” about Grace Kelly.
Remember when Harry was an upstanding, virile helicopter pilot who flew missions in Afghanistan?
No, but I remember when Harry was papped at a Party in an SS uniform sucking another Helicopter guy’s nipples.
I gather you don’t like them !
Headcase> harry was fifth in line for succession at his best chance for taking the crown. Your comments don’t make any sense.
So Anne, Andrew & Edward were all immaculate conceptions?
This has been covered many times.
Princess Anne and Prince Edward were fathered by a Flamer from the Royal Household who died in 1975.
Look it up, he’s a ringer for both of them, no possibility such ugly creatures were sired by a Glucksburg.
Prince Andrew’s father was Queen’s Racing Manager at the time, he was a handsome guy, like Andrew. Look it up if you like.
The bottom line is that Charles was the only one with a legit claim to the Throne.
Head Case> There are probably audiences among young & gullible Green/Teal/Labor leftoids for your silly conspiracy theories about the Windsors. Definitely says a lot about you and little about the royal family, tho.
Thanks Speedbox. Had I known this thread was up, I would have commented on the pair here rather than the OT.
My thoughts always fly back to the Duke and Duchess of Windsor when I think of the Sussexes. This time there’s the added complication of children and the American hothouse of expectations and disposability. And a long simmering anger at the British which expresses itself in many ways. At least the French are (or were) a little more sophisticated as hosts.
The children, of course, are the ones who miss out. As usual.
Ahem!
poor Harry, I believe the expression is “c**t struck”

Yes indeed Rabz. I need to polish my proof-reading lens again. 🙂
Definitely says a lot about you and little about the royal family, tho.
What do you know about the Royal Family?
Nothing, and you’d like to keep it that way.
Now, while I don’t have a problem with your being an uncurious blowhard and a Blow In with nothing to say, I do object to you bein g a stupid troll.
So, either lift your game or Fock Uff.
Which was?
This man and his Walmart wife accused someone in his family of racism. That’s vicious, it’s unseemly, it’s disgusting, you can’t get any lower than that. Throwing out an allegation like that on prime time television, then refusing to name the person, all of this a month before Prince Phillip died in 2021. Last year, when confronted about the story, they backtracked, saying “ohhhhh, we didn’t mean “racism”.
It was pretty obvious to us that it was a lie, the two of them are a professional smear and lie factory, spinning lies and smears in order to rake in the dosh. They know the royal family keep shtum and will not reply. I have a feeling William and Kate will never ever forgive him. He’s dug his grave, he can lie in with his whore of a wife.

Googled it.
Vasily Stalin : I want to make a speech at my father’s funeral.
Nikita Khrushchev : [sarcastically] And I want to f… Grace Kelly.
Vasily Stalin : I simply don’t care.

Doesn’t sound all that funny. Perhaps Rabz is a bit of a Pseud?
Then it dawned on me…… don’t know, don’t care. These fleeting thoughts of Harry and that Markle woman have occupied far too much of my viewing pleasure.
Summed up the Markles well Speedbox.
I had high hopes for young Harry.
All dashed on the day Harry married `Sparkles and the Negro preacher started his evangelizin’ and hollerin’
The look that Her Maj gave him should have shrivelled him to a crisp on the spot.
Now, while I don’t have a problem with your being an uncurious blowhard and a Blow In with nothing to say, I do object to you bein g a stupid troll.

Grandpa Ed Simpson demonstrates again his complete and utter lack of self awareness. He is a blowhard and a stupid troll.
He claims others are”blow-ins”, but, at least under his present tag, he is comparatively new here. Unless he is willing to list his previous identity or identities, he is the blow in.
He should take his own advice, lift his game or fvck off.

Forgotten that but yes! It went on and on and on. I couldn’t avoid the feeling he was enjoying his time in the limelight and wasn’t going to let anything, or anyone, stop him. This was his moment to ‘shine’!
Its incurious and blow-in. We can take up a collection for grammerly if you need help with written english. I’d suggest Chat GPT but that might give you ideas above your station.
He is not a blow in, just a new nick and upped his meds, so far it’s working.
#MeeToo —
The Sunbather is fascinated by a Youtube channel that roasts Meghan Markle mercilessly — here’s a Pretty Woman parody as Petty Woman then there’s Lie after Lie parody on Time after Time
A wise Chief Petty Officer told me early in my Navy time “Take care my son. It, ( he was referring to female attraction as it was understood in those long-ago days) will draw you further than gunpowder will blow you but you must do your duty.”
Harry has ignored this. And he is doing himself no good at all. The collateral damage the couple is inflicting on his family is another thing again. It is well past time to cut them away.
That’s because you’ve just posted the script without any other context, you knobhead.
The film clip of the scene in question is on youtube.
Post it then, if it’s so funny?
[Sotto voce] It ain’t funny.
Which one? God I mean.
I have to say, who cares? Lizzie was one of a kind, a Black Swan’ event, if you like. The rest of the crowd are just spoiled kids with too much money and no responsibility.
Grandpa Ed Simpson
Prove “it ain’t funny” by posting the link.
Rabz has the link, if it was even mildly funny, he woulda posted it.
In fact, arse cancer is funnier than the Death Of Stalin, which reads like a ButtHurtiness Squared “debunking” of the Doctors Plot.
I’ll take that as meaning that your main objection is that you don’t like the show.
It’s pretty clear she manipulates his emotional and psychological fragility. She’s become his mummy.
I have said more on this earlier, on the Open Thread. I don’t think it sits improperly there, btw.
In my view these two are both victims of her times, of this particular period in the culture of the United States. In personal terms, having achieved her ambitious marriage she was unable to cope with the role of it, and is now deeply needy, having to hand-hold her husband when in the UK. He still loves her, but that love is under challenge now. They both seem very ‘lost’ to me and I am sorry for their children. He cut a sad disliked figure at the Coronation. One hopes, perhaps in vain, for familial reconciliation at some time.
Tina Brown, in The Palace Papers, elaborates on Markel’s manipulative determination to meet and then ‘catch’ Harry. This book is a long and very good fully referenced read on the press and Palace politics from the early twentieth century on. Brown writes with insight as a media insider herself with high level relationships through marriage to the editor of The Times and through her own editorial appointments on Vanity Fair and other significant media.
Recommended. Good on a long-haul flight. It covers the Duke of Windsor and Wallis Simpson in detail too, as well as the Charles and Diana saga, with a sympathetic view of Camilla Parker-Bowles.
This book lifts the Royal-watching game to another level, looking at Constitutional politics and the growth of the media as a political force over the last century and into this one. The human drama within it is, obviously, the stuff of all history. So no apologies for having an interest in it.
Book sounds good, thanks for the comments Liz

Princess Anne has done well, re married and does her civic duty. Good job and does not rub peoples faces in the fact her 2nd husband is quite wealthy and they live very well.
Edward and Sophie are great – both run a small busiess and Sophie visiting her mother in law every day while she was ill was a great example of what families do and how good citizens behave.
Sophies confronting markle and sticking up for her fmaily and country that she shivered on the spot was admirable. Good on her.
Last person I heard like that publicly was Margaret Thatcher.
