Hermann Göring explained how people can be made fearful and to support a war they otherwise would oppose:
“The people don’t want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country.”
Change to:
“Most people prefer to live their lives with freedom but they can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. With covid, it was easy. All we had to do was tell them their lives were under attack and denounce the recalcitrants as anti-vaxxers who are exposing the country to danger. It worked the same way in almost every country”.

I am deeply suspicious of all the equations of economics. Some of them are disguised definitions and none of the terms are defined properly.
Mind you, I am not happy with F = m.a either. Is it a definition of force as the derivative of momentum, or is there more to it, and if so, what?
And JC at 3:41.
Thanks.

Nothing terribly sophisticated but it gives me an idea of gaps in pricing of one security over another.

Dot, Sumner is to a large extent regurgitating what Milt said. During latter part of the 80s when Milt’s M3 targeting went out the window, he (milt) turned towards targeting nominal GDP.
If Joe Rogan was so sold on Invermectin why didn’t he rely on just that instead of apparently consuming the entire contents of his medicine cabinet?

Have you never heard of the seven “P’s?”
Quite so. Wealth is having things you want, money is symbolic of promises. Some folk keep their promises, others are unreliable. Governments tend to the second class. Seigniorage only works properly when governments keep their promises.
What do you expect, rosie?

Have you tried DMT?
I think Milt called it income targeting.
Why do I think of a pair of aging Georgian era dowagers. Each in a stiff richly brocaded silk dress that squeezes her body into shape like a human sized lump of dough in a mold, her breasts bulging flabbily above the bust line and parted by a fissure rather than cleavage, her skin thickly slathered with an arsenic-based paint which lends it a ghastly cold pallor, and with lips, eyes, cheeks and eyebrows applied in gaudy colours and contrived shapes, a beauty spot the presence of which embarrasses all but her, and a pompadour the size of which seems to mark the passage of years like the lengthening of a mammoth’s tusk.
There she sits coquettish, tittering, intoxicated by the mercenary attentions of studiously love-struck gallants rooted in place by gambling debts.

Wonder how she met him?
An unpopular term but one that has to be faced in spite of, not because of, its usage by screeching and entitled middle-class women who declare themselves contemporary feminists but who have never experienced any legal or cultural barriers to their freedom of action.
Misogyny requires no special study. History is permeated with the maltreatment of women by men and so is anthropology. It may even be the evolutionary way of things, but it is also something that civilisations can deal with in terms of things we have come to value, such as the rights and freedoms of individuals. That men have also suffered maltreatment as warriors, serfs and canon-fodder is true. Misogyny is simply a sub-category in the maltreatment stakes. It is not a competition. If you want a modern version of misogyny, look no further than Afghanistan today.
Men and women are different in kind and nature in my view, but we are not chattels, nor should we be.
Nor should we be denigrated as unclean because of our reproductive functions, nor lesser in mind and intellect than men (maybe different in aspects), nor the cause of evils in the world via our ‘natures’ as temptresses and witches. These things have happened all too often in the past, and should not be forgotten. Women may be less suited to rule than men; a case can be made there. But the exceptions are many. Overall, the productivity of women in economic life and within the family is now well-established.
I once taught a semester on The History of Witchcraft. Now that is a specific historical study of the most dreadful sorts of misogyny, the suspicion and hatred of women, especially those who spoke out, applied their intelligence, or sought their freedom. They were often scapegoats for wider economic disruptions.
Princess Anastasia’s new man is an obesity fetishist.
Are there doctors recommending ivermectin alone? I think it’s fair to say that most doctors, like Zelenko and his cohorts, use it as part of a protocol.

Some may shriek misogyny at this descriptor, but it would only prove the point that such shrieks are these days often misapplied. To depict someone in satire as belonging to a particular historical female milieu and skewer it so well is simply commentary on how things were and still may in essence be.

Anyone else ever mentioned to you that you do get a bit peculiar at times?
One of the most visible faces of misogyny today is the whole transgender movement……all that rubbish that transwomen are women and the focus on lying and altering language to “disappear women”….such as chestfeeders, people who give birth or birthers, individuals who menstruate, an individual with a cervix. It’s all designed to cancel biological women….or as I prefer to call us….REAL WOMEN.

And consider that CBH here in the West, has just changed rail hauliers. Said new contractee has so busy picking up extra (non-grain) work at present that it is already woefully short of drivers. If you are taking a cocktail including monoclonal antibodies, which I believe is the Regeron* treatment received by President Trump then why spruik invermectin?
You are missing out on the ‘Everyman’ angle, rosie.
Monoclonal antibodies are horrendously expensive, patented, proprietary drugs. Regardless of whether they work, they are the toys of Big Pharma. And we are all of us, utterly jack of Big Pharma rushing crap products out and frantically making bank through backdoor deals and legal dirtbaggery before the market (and public sentiment) sours into pitchfork-n-blazing-torch territory.
As such, any generic or off-brand material that just might outplay the Big Boys’ fanciest new concoctions at their own alleged game will be celebrated.
We need cures. Ivermectin, doxy, HCQ, triple-therapy, antibodies, antivirals, whatever.
But the general public’s increasing (suppressed) hatred of Coof vaxxxines means that the same companies’ effective medications will be looked down on.
Which is to say that it will soon be normalised in Western post-Christendom.
DrBG,
F = MA is shorthand for; it takes a force F to move a mass of M units with an acceleration of A.
What it does not state (in mathematical terms) is that force is equivalent to mass times acceleration. The confusion arises because we can apply mathematical rules to the statement and can say; A = F/M or the acceleration felt A is equivalent to the force F divided by the mass M.
THIS does not mean that acceleration IS Force/Mass. Acceleration is distance over time squared.
A purely mathematical approach to physics can lead to all sorts of nonsense.

Rosie, ivermectin was and always has been intended as a suite of drugs for Coof treatment and prophylaxis.
It has been singled out, as was hydroxychloroquine, in isolation.
Neither was ever intended as a sole solution, which is what the Medical Branch of the ‘Cathedral’ has been strawmanning them as (in favour of the vaxxxines) for the last 2 years.
The more each individual component is pilloried, demonised and ‘scienced’ against, the more the public mind is (allegedly) conditioned against it. Just wait until people start getting mocked for wanting to lick zinc anodes or want azithromycin for anything (Remember HCQ + Iver + Zinc supplement + Azithromycin?)…
The problem being, is that the dishonest pseudoscience of the ‘Cathedral’ spills into the agenda-driven pseudosciences of the various ‘wellness’ and ‘anti-vaccination’ movements. And their own ideological static just makes it that much harder.
…aaaand …. then the supply chain would have broken down.

Nope. Aurizon got the job. And all the headaches that go with trying to crash-gain/relearn all the corporate knowledge of rural WA they (as ARG) threw away with their original treatment of CBH in 2010 (rotting scads of old grain found in hopper-loads of prime APW1, etc.), trying to balance all their other work with probably the most demanding bulk customer you can get and not having enough drivers to meet their new contractual requirements. Even with all the country depots they stand to absorb in the next month.

You are committing serious blasphemy, squire.
LOL.
Ask your local guitar dealer…they outsell the all single coil models by about 3 to 1.
Before I binge watch the final season of, “Mr. Inbetween”, here’s some shorts by Nash Egerton, Scott Ryan‘s genius partner in bringing, “The Magician”, to greater life as a series –

A man in a Soviet Grey Levi’s Jacket, wielding his beloved Gibbo … 🙂
The Australian, viz the Weekend Australian, is a nauseous freedom hating disgrace.
Fire them all. Tear it down. Burn it to the ground. Salt the earth.
3 – Fuel

Chuckle. The nano-wrigglers are real. They made me talk to myself on poor Matrix’s thread.
Limited exposure is prescribed.
Rog – you are a seriously troublesome figure.
Eric Clapton traded in his ES 335 for a Strat when he went middle of the road FM radio with 461 Ocean Boulevard in 1974.
Jerry Garcia swapped out an SG for a Strat about the same time, with similar deleterious results for his tone, resulting in the career low point of ‘Blues for Allah’.
Enough said.
The very same. Whose attitudes on trains v. trucks got stuck somewhere between 1971 and 1989, and have languished there since.
Thank you, Rabz; I’ll take that as a compliment.
But remember, we’re just talking about guitars.
How about Holden vs Ford?
Enuff of your pesky anecdotes, Rog, I tells ya! 🙁
Strats are more than just art. They exist to be beautiful and create merry aural havoc when they need to. 🙂
I was never a fan of either.
Strats, Gibsons? Meet a 1937 National.
I had a guitar as a kid for a short while. Never took, partly because I didn’t even have a radio. Sounds crazy, but true. No exposure to actual music until the early seventies. But haven’t had the urge since either, which is probably a good thing since don’t have the coordination and dexterity for such things anyway.
Rabz is a Maserati man. Def!
To play seriously takes a lot of time commitment, Bruce.
Even just to the point of playing folk songs with cowboy chords.
Eddie Van Halen said he never went out on Saturday nights but stayed home to practice, unlike his brother. And so it was that his brother ended up as the drummer in the group.
Mark Knopfler is seriously good without being flashy.
And Tommy Emmanuel is the king!
Mortimerian Tales – Bob Mortimer on Would I Lie to You? – Part 2 – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bWt__tV-Zg
00:07 – I once set fire to my house with a box of fireworks.
06:50 – The police once ordered me to leave town because I was frightening the locals.
13:11 – This is Keith. He’s my oldest friend, and when we were at school together, we hid a dictaphone in the classroom ceiling to confuse our teacher.
18:25 – This is the cushion that I used to carry my pet owl around on. I would have brought the owl, but he escaped last week.
23:45 – For five days I pushed my cat around in a pram, because it had sprained three of its ankles.
26:27 – As a teenager, I used to terrorise my neighbourhood with a game I invented called “Theft and Shrubbery”.
31:45 – This is Michael, and after cutting his hair, I got a job on a campsite as a hairdresser.
37:54 – I have a digeridoo suspended from a tree in my back garden so when the wind blows in a certain direction, it parps soothing sounds of the outback through my bedroom window.
41:34 – I recently had to charm a spider out of my shoe by tooting a flute at it.
45:35 – I can break an apple in half with my bare hands.
Been out a lot today, only just catching up.
Many thanks to those who corrected my interpretation of Jeanette Young’s pronouncement on vaxxing the kiddies. I’m frankly happy to have been wrong about that! The thought that her intention was as I had supposed was horrifying.
We can’t afford to be complacent about it though. I did see a brief post somewhere back up-thread that despite the medical boffins in the UK saying it definitely wasn’t necessary or a good idea (details ?), the health minister or whoever in government was going to go ahead anyway (paraphrasing here.)
No. Not on this Earth. This is my preferred conveyance … 🙂
Jimi did everything you can do with a Strat.
That Stevie Ray imitated him proves it.
Although Dave Gilmour carved out a special niche for it.
Strat Man with a whole orchestra!
Sugestion, if an object of known mass suffers a change in its vector velocity, then Newton asserts that this is because a force has been applied to it, and the size and direction of the force is numerically equal to the product of the scalar mass and the velocity change. This is what = means. It does not refer to some metaphysical essence. Neither physics nor mathematics have any use for essences.
Sorry, they’re the wrong segments for Part 2 but it is lots more Bob Mortimer.
His smile is contagious & stories delightful, just what’s needed in this age of evil stupid –
New segment: Bob Mortimer, the Cockroach King –

JJ Cale – there’s no one like him.
OK, I’ll grant you BB King.
Both could make a whole statement with just one chord. It’s not the music, but the way it’s played.
Stevie Ray Vaughan, Steve Vai
Ah heck, too may good ones to list really. So many of them all together at the Crossroads festivals in particular.
Frumpy implies fixable.
Palacechook looks like she was sculpted out of home-made PlayDoh by a modestly talented 5-year old.
Intermission.
Music to resume after the carrot.
No. Not on this Earth. This is my preferred conveyance … ?
Somehow, I just knew you were masochist, Rabz.
Time for some appropriate Chrissy Amphlett…
…Bugger! There is no ‘I Cut Myself’ to describe the grief and rage of having a car that spends more time broken than not, and being cripplingly expensive to boot.
Ah well, have some Chrissy anyway.

The guest guitarist in this film clip, demonstrating that Kate Bush is unequalled among beauties that have lived on this planet. 🙂
rosie,
Two things about that study.
1/ The population studied were people with a chronic inflammatory illness and whether or not they were being treated with HQ were right in the slot to be adversely impacted by Covid no matter what. Which begs the question, has a large scale trial been undertaken of a population more representative of the broader community?
2/ The referenced health care worker trials concluded that HQ did not stop infection. Now I don’t think anyone has seriously suggested it’s use to prevent Covid, only as a symptom mitigation strategy. So bit of a straw man they built there.
I’ve become very cynical of reports down grading use of therapeutics for Covid.
Blimey, Rabz- More glitter in that video than on the Old Cat’s Open Thread that time Mr. Lowe, KD, myself and several others wound up Bird so hard he actually rage-quit off the forum before Sinc could ban him.
Gosh, that was a glorious night…

Rex – I’m an Italiano – We hop in the Ferrari and put the foot down.
Preferably silver – Northern Italian and Southern German. JC has expounded on the Italian peoples before on these blogues in grate depth. 🙂
132 yes but still interesting because it was large scale.
There were many other trials.
Cynical yes but there has to a percentage of people in medical research who sincerely care about saving lives with cheaper drugs.
And I’m sure if you look for successful research where that had been achieved in a non covid setting you will find examples.
Speaking of – JC’s preferred Swansteen track … 🙂
Ok intermission is over.
Carrot has been deployed.
Some serious guitar plus three saxes!
You English Dogues … 🙁
I guess if you’re looking for something that you can take at home without medical supervision you aren’t going to be satisfied.
Yet it appears in hospital treatments using many other repurposed drugs has improved outcomes for many people.
nps.org.au hcq and covid 19
As for hydroxychloroquine dr zelenko’s original pick, increased cases of heart arrhythmia, 45% increase in deaths, afaik trials discontinued. Why are people still talking about it?
Because if you take it in non lethal doses there are few side effects and there appears to be reduced mortality from Covid if you start early. You think a long established anti-malarial will result in increased mortality without some monkeying going on?
The Man was the greatest salesman for Ozzie footballers evah … 🙂

For all those ALPFL fans on this blogue … 🙁
rickw, I had a nice afternoon making a couple of brass parts on the mini lathe. Thanks for your help and the links to the lathe tools.
One would hope their voices are heard.
The whole AGW farce works to keep me cynical though.
A very normal man expounding the virtues of that elusive concept known as “Rock ‘n’ Roll” …
Loved the Kate Bush/Dave Gilmour track. Haven’t heard it for a long while.
Which led me to a fine new thing:
Pink Floyd – Learning To Fly (2 Sep 2021, Official video)
It would be the only thing that would get their attention. At present we are locked away, invisible, inconsequential.
Australia.

Can anyone suggest a good web site for coverage of the Russian election?
Sure.

Which means I can’t avoid doing this. It’s a blast.
Blondie, “Rapture” (live) 1999 (HQ) Glastonbury
Amazing lady. Only thing I have against this one is they didn’t get the true beauty of the original guitar solo. (The original is here, which is beyond a blast. I’m sure it’s why Elon wants to go to Mars.)
