Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese says the government should instead focus on training millions of unemployed or underemployed Australians in areas where there are skill shortages.
Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has indicated Labor won’t back the government’s plans to take on 160,000 new migrants each year.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg on Saturday announced the Federal Government’s plans to increase Australia’s permanent migration by an extra 120,000 people over the next two years to strengthen economic growth and address skills shortages.
It’s also breathtaking hypocrisy, but then the ALP wouldn’t be the ALP if they weren’t hypocrites. Report comment

The wukka wing of the ALP must be revolting. This from Albo yesterday was interesting.

Albo may be all sorts of things but he is not stupid, he can suss out when something is not popular with his voters or even with other parties’ voters. Only the Coalition doesn’t seem to care what voters think in which case into the dustbin of history with them. Report comment

Crossie – He’s trying to paper over the cracks between the progressives and the muslims on the one side of the ALP and the industrial wing on the other. The progs and the muslims are full bore on immigration. He’s terrified that the industrials will jump over to PHON, as we saw in Joel’s seat (which Joel is retiring from…hmm).
There must be a lot of resentment after Setka betrayed his rank and file, for example. Increasingly the union officials are all “elitist wankers” who don’t represent their members. Maybe I’m reading the tea leaves wrong that Albo’s announcement appears symptomatic of some nasty internal polling numbers. Report comment

Then we have factional hacks (I can name 15) appointed to departments, gov agencies and boards. Board positions given to estranged partners of MPs to help ease pain of child support. I would expect The gov to support the upper house motion for ibac to investigate these matters.

Record caucus and cabinet meetings and leak them, make sure every forum in the the Labor party caucus is unworkable due to leaks. Constantly brief journalists about how deranged he is. Victoria needs to be saved from the mad king.
Kind of a pity if Andrews loses the next election, he’s buried the state in debt, and some of the serious problems with crime are just starting to rear their head. Stuff like the drug dealing on Elizabeth st, that’ll only get worse when the “safe” injecting room opens. Then there’s the decriminalizing prostitution. Lots of petty criminals sitting at home collecting the government $$$ at the moment too, when that stops they’ll be out and about again.
Whatever the next government is, they are going to have to make some very unpopular decisions to right the ship, if they’re remotely responsible. Likely make them a one term government.
Of course it’d be a whole lot easier to deal with if half of the current government end up in jail. Report comment

If he only backed coal mining and told the wokesters where to get off he’d romp it in.
