John Nicoletti: Prominent WA farmer’s Bacopak company cops steep fine for illegal clearing
Countryman
Mon, 24 January 2022 12:43PM
Adam Poulsen
A fine imposed on prominent WA farmer John Nicoletti for illegally clearing native vegetation has been increased tenfold to $25,000 after the State’s environmental regulator won a Supreme Court appeal.
Mr Nicoletti was busted in 2018 for flattening 8ha of eucalyptus woodland on his farm at Corinthia, 390km east of Perth, to make way for a wheat crop two years earlier.
He told Department of Water and Environmental Regulation officers the vegetation had “poisoned his sheep and interfered with cropping” on the 1006ha farm, which operates under the name Bacopak Pty Ltd.
Bakopak pleaded guilty in Perth Magistrate’s Court in December 2020 and was fined $2500.
Magistrate Donna Webb also ordered the company to pay the department’s legal costs and place a notice in The West Australian, at its own expense, acknowledging the conviction.
But the Supreme Court last week overruled that sentence, with Justice Jeremy Curthoys finding it was “manifestly inadequate” and “so low as to be negligible”.
“The sensitivity of the environment in which the vegetation was cleared and the commercial nature of the clearing demand a significant penalty that functions as a general deterrent to other corporate entities,” Justice Curthoys said.
“The area cleared by Bacopak was not insignificant although it represented a small proportion of the entire property.
“The location and nature of the clearing aggravated the seriousness of the offending.”

At the other end of the spectrum, in the US (not Australia where border line retards have been doing the job for decades) there should be an age limit on a presidential candidate.
If you are 60 or older on the expected inauguration day, you should be precluded from running.
If you are genuine about serving the people and not your ego, there are 100’s of advisory roles the oldies can fill.
Oldies can no longer be effective 24/7 everyday for 4 let alone 8 years.
And that’s what the modern day president has to be.

We used to play on local council controlled playing fields, they were all gravel pits with some weeds around the edges. I made a habit of never being where the ball was, if you grabbed it and ran with it, some buffoon would take you down with a flying tackle onto the gravel where you would lose 2 and a half inches of skin off your knees and elbows and dislocate a shoulder.

The age of people in politics is not the issue…
The primary issue is the lack of real world awareness, caused by moving from one sheltered position to another your entire life, being spoon fed the whole way.
You have to spend 20+ years making the right connections, sucking up to the right people before you even have the chance to make any changes.
By the time you reach a position of power, you owe too many people…
Age is not representative of a persons value or conviction.
I would trust a young and successful business owner to run the country long before I would trust and aged and professional unionist…

To say that these people are out of their depth is putting it mildly. How the tech witnesses keep a straight face is a wonder.
What bothers me is that the reps are supposed to have all these clued-in staff who understand this stuff. So why are they not being briefed properly? Or are they playing dumb?
In the US, the Masters of the Universe just lie and prevaricate in front of the committees, year in, year out. The GOP huffs and puffs, but does nothing. The tech companies never get called to account for lying.

A Dutch tourist has been detained and fined for making a Nazi salute while visiting the former death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, police in Poland said.
The woman, 29, said it was a stupid joke, according to Polish News.
Bartosz Izdebski, the press officer of Ma?opolska police, said that guards at the Auschwitz Museum detained the tourist after she posed while making a fascist salute as her husband, 30, took a photo.
The couple were taken to the police headquarters at Oswiecim, where her husband was questioned as a witness.
Later that afternoon the district prosecutor’s office in Oswiecim fined the woman. Public promotion of fascism is punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment.
Regional police tweeted: “Officers from [the southern city of] O?wi?cim detained a 29-year-old woman from the Netherlands today.
“The tourist had been performing the Hitler salute in front of the ‘Arbeit Macht Frei’ [Work Sets You Free] gate. The detainee was charged with engaging in Nazi propaganda. She confessed.”
Nazi Germany built the death camp in Oswiecim after occupying Poland during the Second World War. The Holocaust site has become a symbol of Nazi Germany’s genocide of six million European Jews, more than one million of whom died at the camp between 1940 and 1945 along with more than 100,000 non-Jews, including Poles, Roma, Soviet prisoners of war and other nationalities.
In 2013 two students from Turkey were also photographed making a Nazi salute at the gates. They were sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for three years, and fined.

He did it for me too. But the newer series that started in 2005 are really good – worth watching.
Christopher Ecclestone was pretty good. David Tennant’s run is the one people remember the most- Absolute high watermark of writing and production value. Matt Smith’s tenure was pretty OK (I liked this most because of Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman). The first Peter Capaldi series is OK, but starting to succumb to wokeness. The latter series got progressively (pun/slur deliberately intended) more preachy and crap. And I gave up before the steaming dumpster fire that has been Jodie Whittaker as the ‘First Female Doctor.’
The BBC went full Red Guard on Doctor Who in the last 2-3 years, and the show we knew and loved (and hid from behind the couch when the Daleks came on) is about as lifeless and dripping as one of Grigory’s skinsuits.
The brand is now trashed. But the revamp of 2005-17 was a good run.

$20m deal frees Aboriginal flag for all
Greg Brown
National Correspondent
7 minutes ago January 24, 2022
No Comments
Australians can freely use the Aboriginal flag design at sporting events, on clothing and for art after the federal government bought its copyright from Luritja artist Harold Thomas.
Mr Thomas, who designed the flag more than 50 years ago and launched it at the National Aborigines Day march in Adelaide in 1971, has vowed to use $2m of the proceeds to help establish a charity for Indigenous Australians.
“I am grateful that my art is appreciated by so many, and that it has come to represent something so powerful to so many,” he said.
“The Aboriginal flag design is my Dreaming, intertwined with my wife’s family and mine, our ancestral belonging.
“The land, and the landscape, is indelible in my make-up; it courses through my consciousness and subconsciousness.
“The flag represents the timeless history of our land and our people’s time on it.
“It is an introspection and appreciation of who we are. It draws from the history of our ancestors, our land, and our identity and will honour these well into the future.”
The flag was raised at Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra in 1972 and given formal national status by the Keating government in 1995. Mr Thomas was legally recognised as its designer two years later, with the flag protected by copyright law.
Under the $20m deal struck with licensees of the flag design, all commonwealth royalties from sales will be put towards the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
The government will also provide $100,000 a year worth of scholarships for Indigenous students in Mr Thomas’s honour.

The Train
Bastia to Ajaccio.
It’s a little train, just two carriages, behind a noisy engine on a single line with brief waits at a couple of stations along the way for the trains going the other way.
Turns in from the coast just past Borgo and criss crosses a shallow river til it gets to a larger town called Corte where it starts to climb, and climb, until it hits the snowline at Vizzavona then after a time, descending, before emerging into a wider valley behind Ajaccio and terminating at the ferry port.
Incredible scenery all the way along, crossing narrow valleys over arched stone bridges, through tunnels, mostly short, into occasional broader valleys with farms, many tiny villages high in the mountains too, sometimes felt like a ride at Luna Park, there seemed to be nothing between the train and the edge of very steep drops.
Very clear why Corsica only supports a population of 330,000, many, many mountains.
And Ajaccio is beautiful too with the same clear blue skies and almost no wind with a fine harbour surrendered by more mountains.

Hartnell, the original and the best, although some of the early scripts leaned too much on portraying alien cultures as archaic robed figures that had escaped from a budget Fall of the Roman Empire set.
More convincing were the ones which time travelled to points in history like the persecution of the Huguenots in France. Daleks made their first appearances in Hartnell’s era (early 1960s), and he knew where their off switch was!

As loath as I am to continue the Dr Who thread this morning, I will say that Weeping Angels was the best small-screen offering in the globe since the 1990 Grand Final.
A House candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump, Harriet Hageman, handily defeated Rep. Liz Cheney in a Republican Party straw poll in Wyoming on Saturday, according to the New York Post.
Hageman was awarded 59 votes from the secret ballot of party activists who took part in the Wyoming Republican State Central Committee poll. Cheney and state Sen. Anthony Bouchard, R-Cheyenne, were awarded two, and Denton Knapp one.

As previously demonstrated, I’m all for criticising the jacks. However:
Five years ago Rebecca Hayward was a 34 year old drug-fucked violent pisswreck who made the lives of everyone she came in contact with a misery, and who’d been in and out of the bin for years for pinching or breaking other people’s stuff. She was also a mother of three kids, and part-indig.
To ‘start fresh‘, she left her kids behind and went to Alice Springs to live with ‘family’. She lasted six hours at the ‘family’ house before it was wrecked, and the rellos booted her. For Alice Springs, that’s really saying something.
She was last seen walking towards the Tanami Road turn off, north of town. A group of (activist) Alice doctors in a car stopped and offered her water. She told them to fuck off, which they did and she was never seen again.
Some weeks later, her brother Eric reported her missing. The jacks went through the standard routine of air and land searches for ten days or so, and spoke to a pile of people in both Alice and Yuendumu, which is three hours down the Tanami road. Nothing.
The coronial finding in 2020 didn’t throw up anyone Eric could squeeze compo out of, so now he’s in the NT News wanting another one and flogging the jacks for not doing more than they did.
Dear Eric. Alice Springs is a joint where (as noted by TE last night) 10 year olds are being pinched for stealing $2000 worth of smokes. The jacks have better things to do than look for your waste of space sister.

Gabor, I enjoy writing. And like many ‘columnists’ (other people who enjoy writing), I write about what I know and what I have experienced. Sufficiently so that some of it gets published, and commended, in real publications, not just on the Cat. That is also, btw, what many other people here who enjoying putting words out do too. Not everyone does this, but it is part of this place and always has been. Scroll if you are in a hurry or just don’t understand some things.
On the Cat we hear about their lives from such as Pedro, Struth, RickW, Calli, Rosie, JC and yes, from Johanna too we often receive a distillation of that quintessence of Queanbeyan which adds its soupcon to the variety of impressions we can read or scroll.
The point I made at the start of my experiential reminiscence is one that clearly quite a few people on the Cat are unable to grasp. Class envy is alive and well in Australia and you can hardly write about contrasting social environments here without generating ire aplenty. Go tell that to the Real Life writers in The Spectator – which is one of the most well-read sections of that rather good magazine.
Private schooling is a part of life in Australia – get used to it. Especially historically, across class lines, which is where I came in. It is also worth examining in context, the good and the bad of it. Parents tend to do what they think is best for their children. There is plenty of both good and bad in private schooling and those who have experience of it can add more grist to that mill. My nephew went to Cranbrook but ended up a heroin addict. Life is not simple though some here uptick as though it was.
So, unless the ALP drops WeChat, the politics seem quite straightforward.

With regard to ScoMo’s WeChat account, how is that the only way for him to communicate with Chinese-Australians? I thought we had the media for that, those people with makeup and interesting haircuts on TV. If the Chinese-Australians don’t understand English then how did they become Australian?
These are the questions that interest me and not the shenanigans with WeChat which is a given and extraordinarily foolish for an Australian prime minister to be a part of. Besides, aren’t we paying billions for the ABC and SBS to do this and not communist Chinese apps?
A California mother is taking legal action against a school district, claiming that two teachers secretly manipulated her 11-year-old daughter into believing she was a transgender boy.
Jessica Konen filed a legal claim against Spreckels Union School District last Wednesday – with that claim a likely precursor to a lawsuit. She alleges that Buena Vista Middle School teachers Lori Caldeira and Kelly Baraki ‘planted a seed’ in her daughter’s head that she was bisexual, then went on to convince the youngster that she was actually a transgender boy.
Konen also claims that Caldeira and Baraki – who ran the school’s ‘You Be You’ equality club – provided information for her daughter on how to bind her breasts to stop them developing. She says the school kept her in the dark about what was going on until a December 2019 meeting.

I’m still of the opinion Kelly O’Dwyer epitomised the skills and knowledge a young conservative could bring to politics while being an exemplary wife and mother..
She may be but she made my ears bleed.
Someone should have pulled her aside and coached her in the art of brevity.

Agree both the US Senate and HoR are filled with the most repulsive geriatrics imaginable eg Clyburn, Waters, Nandler and Feinstein and that’s just off the top off my head. Thing is they were repulsive, venal and a threat to the country 20 years or 50 years ago. Rotten, worthless political parasites who don’t even seem to be able to control their bodily functions now. Hanging around so they can continue to leach of the country. Democracy in the US, like here, is so so broken.
I was joking about Mrs two thousand dollar toaster.
But then look at Reagan and Adenauer. Trump was no spring chicken either but then this accomplishments in the real world made the parasite class hate him.

SSM ?
The soggy sao movement ?
O’Dwyer was a Costello staffer, Pyne was Vanstone staffer. Parliamentary office is more often than not only available to the connected. If you ran a fish and chips shop, the establishment might imprison you.
I would suggest a minimum age for Parliament (Congress/President/whatever) of 55 and mandatory retirement at 70.
That would have the advantage of making it extremely difficult to use politics as a career.
Except maybe starting as a trade union official. Plenty of troughing to be done there before moving at 55 into Parliament.

Yep, a tournament and a country which welcomes all.
Rugby is the worst game even devised. I had to play it every winter (’60’s Sydney western suburbs state high school), and play cricket every summer, another boring game I despise.
And the scrum, good heavens, can you imagine anything more gay than a rugby scrum.
The Kamala/Epstein photo that I mentioned before has been doing the rounds for months.

If you are an umimportant person who lies to the FBI, the full force of the State falls on you. If you are a tech mogul who lies to Congress – meh. See you next year.

Good summary – I have seen up to the end of the first Peter Capaldi series. Never had the time since then.
You missed a special mention for the Weeping Angels…
Don’t Blink and The Library are my favourite Dr Who stories.
I read Lizzie’s latest embiggening about how they sat at High Table with Sir Toby Belch and so on, but decided that there is a point where reality beats satire.
I mean, snobbery about kids’ schools has got to rate at about snobbery about who your hairdresser is. A deep interest and knowledge about this crap is very revealing of the shallowness of deep.
I watched a few episodes of Dr. Who with Billie Piper in.
Simultaneously the biggest arseholes the Doctor Who team has ever developed as villains, and a great allegory for creeping woke fuckery sneaking up on you and murdering you while your back is turned, yet somehow petrified into stillness whenever your eye is on it. Yet even the most disciplined of humans blink…
Hmm. So it’s getting late … and later. lol.

Part of my brain thinks the Biden administration turning up Russia rhetoric so he dial it down & be called a peacemaker.

Are they wrong? When it comes to vaccines, Australians are the dumbest of the dumb.
There’ll be plenty of willing takers for the fourth here – a plurality in fact. It will be at least the 5th dose before a large group of Australians start to get suspicious.
Compare this to the US where less than half will get even one booster.

Lisa Wilkinson has been banging on how the UK is crumbling under COVID (& how the same is happening in Australia).
But not saying anything about France.
Wonder why?
UK infections are running at 1500 per mill.
France just under 5000 per mill.
Wilkinson is just repeating chatter from her latest luncheon.
Some comments critical of Trump yesterday seemed to imply he had a carte blanche when the GOP controlled the HoR. Consider who the Speakers were then- Boehner and Ryan. Total RINOs.
I’m sure Trump knew the evil party was going to cheat- I was able to watch it happening in almost real time. Counting stopping at 10pm then restarting with the old thief in front this time. etc etc etc
That Trump achieved anything at all is a credit to him considering the snake pit he had to work in. I’m disgusted, no bloody angry, at the way he has been treated but now we know that western ‘democracy’ is not much better (if at all) than the Peoples’ Congress in Peking.
And in the subject of wastes of space, Kallista Mutten is still lying doggo in hospital, and still ‘difficult to approach’.

Sorry, Joh. I was just “commenting on a comment” about elite private schools and networking.
If you’re paying upwards of $30k a year you tend to acquire a deep interest in such things, particularly what crap to avoid like the plague. There is value in shelling out, but it doesn’t appear in all its glory until school is over. It’s also a product of home training and nurturing (rather than “best friending”), but if that meshes with values and structure instilled at school you end up with a fairly acceptable result.
But then I would say that, wouldn’t I? 😀
Lol. Just caught the tail end of a Koch pontification before The Beloved hastily switched it off.

I tried not to laugh. Memo to Stoker, you reap what you sow. Tis too late. She also tried to say that the splitting of the conservative vote will deliver the senate third spot to the Greens. I doubt that. She’s desperate to keep her senate job.
Who’s performed better in the senate – Hanson or Stoker? I think Hanson…by a mile.
Trump’s achievements outshone his mistakes. To expect any leader not to make mistakes is unrealistic. I think he was def wrong about ‘vaccines’ but then the whole covid fraud was to destabilize him anyway.

Note to private school fanbois. Your child may still be a total fuck up, regardless of which school they attended.
very clever – and on the money.
Boris in more trouble. Good.
Boris Johnson had birthday bash during lockdown, ITV News understands
Yes indeed duncanm.
Stein’s mummy probably sat at the Cranbrook High Table.
milton, I posted his wins the other day.
Yes, he had a long list of them.
But it’s ok to be critical.
Example, I think his Kavanaugh appointment will be John Roberts all over again (even though Kav is a mental pygmy when compared to Roberts, which makes the Roberts situation all the more diabolical).
milton, I posted his wins the other day.
Disclaimer: what I called wins, others might not.
“Note to private school fanbois. Your child may still be a total fuck up, regardless of which school they attended.”
I’m not aware that anyone here said otherwise.
Whatever the strategy is, it is not Biden making it.
His puppet-masters are looking out for their own interests.
If the rest of the world, and America, is lucky then their interests will not directly conflict with Biden’s masters’. If they do, you know whose interests will be sacrificed.
No backtracking here.

The Tech Revolution No One Is Talking About
Out and about today.
Shine on, you crazy diamonds.
Peaked.
Good news.
The piqued monsters in retreat, though, seem to have every intention to lay waste by harming the children.
I made that point yesterday, duncanm.
What’s with the “fanbois” pejorative? I came across a lot of reverse snobbery when the children were at school. It was as silly as the pretentiousness and social climbing that I observed there. Maybe the trades background kept my feet well and truly on the ground. It definitely helped the kids.
The Kavanaugh situation was a no win ether way. Not letting the frightbats feed on more blood was the lesser of the two.
What’s a high table?
Is it related to a high chair?
I gave you a thumbs up anyway – I agree and saw some train wrecks over the years.
If I sound cranky, blame lack of carbs. It’s day four, and haze is descending.
calli, yesterday I completed a 24 hour fast.
8pm to 8pm.
fanbois was not meant as a pejorative.
“What’s with the “fanbois” pejorative?”
Quite so Calli. My nephews attended a boys only GPS school…my sister and brother-in-law made great sacrifices to send them to the school, they eschewed yearly overseas trips etc. My sister chose the school not just for its “academic” record but also because of the ethos…..character building, sport and so on.
” I agree and saw some train wrecks over the years.”
You can get train wrecks at any school…private or government.
Agree it’s ok to be critical. What I marvel at was how he managed to do anything at all and for that he deserves fulsome praise. I visited Michigan in 2019 and it just purred. Agree the two big things the lifted the quality of life for ordinary Americans were cut off the supply of cheap labor and cut taxes. Quite simple.
Gee! some are very defensive today. Have a snickers!
What about those ungrateful millennials?

and no more wars
You fiend! Like the hungry lion in Madagascar hallucinating, I’m see you as a yellow M&M.
I can’t even write a sentence properly. I must have been really hooked.
Chinese businessman reveals why he bought Scott Morrison’s WeChat account
It turns out that a Chinese businessman ‘bought’ ScoMo’s WeChat account from Mr Ji, the Chinese National who was the notional account owner, because:
And WeChat platform owner Tencent’s hands are tied. Terms of service, y’know.
All legit. No CCP involvement. At all.
Strangely, Abronese’s WeChat account hasn’t been bought. Leaving him with a clear run to directly message Chinese Australians. Which he would like to continue to use, unless forced not to.
So, unless the ALP drops WeChat, the politics seem quite straightforward.
One of China’s 14 Dot Points of Outrage was: “• foreign interference legislation, viewed as targeting China and in the absence of any justification”.
Albo should be forced to explain which of the other 13 Demands of Xi Labor intends to surrender on.
Love you writings Elizabeth !
In terms of publications, I should add, of twelve of mine on Quadrant only two have been experiential memoirs of life in an earlier Australia – ‘On Becoming Elizabeth’ and recently ‘Dirty Rotten Love’ . My major publication there (10 pages) was original work on the origins of the Arthurian legendary corpus. Other publications have been reviews of TV shows, books, theatre etc.
“fanbois was not meant as a pejorative.”
You could have fooled me.

The Tech Revolution No One Is Talking About
All solid platinum BS!
Profusely garnished by simplistic, undergraduate-level CGI.
None of this will come to pass in the foreseeable centuries. Just like Tokamaks and quantum computers. Techo-dreams nourished by blind, overwhelming arrogance.
The old psychopaths peddling this crap will putresce in their graves, just like everyone else… a deeply comforting thought.

If you are lurking, go to http://www.smalldeadanimals.com, and look at the item headed “The average age of a trucker is 58”. Canadia seems (if possible) to be worse off than Australia as far as the trucking business id concerned.
On verbiage, some of us are just good at barking orders and expecting instant obedience.
I had a look, Gilas.
Here
Same old b/s in new clothes.
Hahaha. Infographic — how to spot a libertarian.
