An allowance was included as well, extra for living away from home. Unfortunately I know a number of people who weren’t able to go because the allowance was small.</blockquote

Yes. I got an 'independent' living allowance with a Com schol, fortunately I was able to prove I had been entirely self-supporting for seven years. It wasn't very much money and I had to supplement it with waitressing. Gave me a chance at university though.

Just read the link to the Shanghai Quarantine Halls, where people are placed two two a cubicle in a massive convention hall. Portable toilets and no showers. You get a basin and a towel for a wash, and a toothbrush, presumable done in some toilet block somewhere. The Ukrainian women put into one as she was living in Shanghai commented that they left the lights on all night which was torture. I’d take my trusty black airline eye-shade for that, for they work quite well rather than her makeshift box over her head. But she couldn’t do much about the noise and constant lous chatter of thousands of Chinese.

That would absolutely be my idea of hell.

This ABC scare story about election scare stories talks like the election is a three-way scare contest between Labor, Labor Lite™, and the Greens.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-04-19/medicare-aged-pension-energy-scare-campaigns-federal-election/100998804

As UAP are not even mentioned, I infer that UAP is the ABC’s worst enemy and therefore the great hope of the election.

My mate once suggested a much stronger house – basically a slab with steel girders and plug and play walls. Just replace the walls when they get wrecked. This was dismissed as being “sub-standard”.

In Fiji they build (or used to) social housing (paid for by foreign aid) from concrete blocks.

Not because the locals are inclined to wreck them (far from it), but because it’s cheap, local labour can erect them and they’re cyclone resistant.

There was a similar proposal in Western Australia several years ago – someone sat down with the tribal elders and the locals, and asked what they wanted in a house – the result was howled down by the faux Aboriginal brigade as “expecting Aborigines to live in second class housing.”

Humphrey, I suspect every low-rent, BMW-driving poser in Perth (and quite a few other places) would kill for an Aston Martin badge on his SUV — the ultimate look-at-moi wank.

Bloke who parks next to me in the apartment carpark had an Aston Martin. He’s recently exchanged it for a McLaren. I’ve never met him, however the other day there were two other McLarens parked out the front of the apartments, obviously waiting for their mate.

I stopped to admire and chat. One of the owners offered me a ride – him driving. Of course I agreed. This car has 765 horses and does 0 – 100 in 2.8 seconds. Off we go for a small lap around the East Perth foreshore in the early afternoon. He putters around at the speed limit until he gets to Riverside Drive with about a km to play with and just floors it! FMD! What a blast!

Then he hits the breaks, turns a couple of corners and floors it again with only a couple of hundred meters room before he hits traffic. The brakes do the job as well as the donk. Still haven’t met my neighbour but he should be a great bloke if his mates are anything to go by.

Min raised the issue of guilts back thread. They can be large, and small. Here’s my small one today.

I have paid no-strings for 18 year old grandson’s airfare to the US for ten days with his girlfriend and her family, and I have paid for his passport, and given him a couple of hundred towards other expenses. He’s saved for the accommodation from his part-time job inbetween study. He’s now suggested a loan of $1000 to see him through the trip. I felt a bit mean agreeing to ‘a loan’ but I also thought he did have to take some responsiblity now for his enjoyments. I am happy to pay entirely for necessary things like driving lessons, but still, I had a niggle that maybe I was being mean requiring repayment. I lent money to Penny and John (my daughter and son) from the bank of mum and dad when they were 18, I commented to him unthinkingly and they paid me back over time later, so it’s no different for you. I’m sorry I can’t ask my mum and dad, Grandma, he says, mistaking my meaning, and then I felt terrible for making him feeling he had to apologise.

Of course he can’t ask them. They are both wrecks.

Family life. Never easy.

Just invoke da climate change making cyclones worser. When I was in Townsville all new construction appeared to be cement block with a tin roof. That was what mine was. Painted they looked fine and were tough. Do the same in the Territory, fill the breeze blocks with rebarred concrete (better insulation for da climate change), use steel trusses for the roof (termites are worser because climate change) and no ceilings (hotter because climate change, need airy space), and there you go, a nulla nulla proof house.

Sky Oz’s lefty US correspondent Annalise Nielsen was just on Blot (which I usually never watch) saying it would be a disaster if Elbow appointed Kevni as the next ambassador in Washington, denials about his intentions notwithstanding. Nielsen actually gets out of Washington and knows what a disaster Biden is in middle America and inserting Kevni into that as a middle man for the Australian relationship would be ludicrous given the only thing Oz and the USA agree on at the moment is that China is a major problem (Biden family corruption being a separate issue).

Waiting times officially round here are 6m for OT and 8m for ST, actual times are double that. The administration of the NDIS is nothing to crow about either from what I hear, months to get a plan finalised. Of course COVID is their fall back till quizzed about why their workforce that couldn’t do from home, then crickets from what I hear.

Abbott should have nipped in the bud but didn’t. Fun fact I started noticing a national insurance scheme on my Qld Rego, unsure what it was I delved into it. Turns out it is some sort of road accident scheme set up under the NDIS that Queensland has signed up for hence the extra fee for Rego that is growing per annum.

Meanwhile in one of the loonier governments of the country:

NORTHERN Territory teachers could soon be told not to call students “boys and girls” to avoid offending children who might be questioning their gender.

Schools would also be encouraged to organise “non-gendered” sporting teams, physical education activities and sports days, under the plan being developed by the NT Education Department.

And children attending school camps would be able to use the toilets, showers and sleeping quarters of their “affirmed gender”.

The directions are included in draft guidelines on diverse sex, sexuality and gender identity in schools that have been sent out for consultation by the NT education department.

“Using gendered language such as ‘girls and boys’ or ‘ladies and gentlemen’ confirms gender stereotyping and roles and can be alienating for gender questioning and gender diverse children,” the document says.

Should teachers be able to call students ‘boys and girls’?
Absolutely 53 %
No, it should be gender neutral 4 %
I can’t believe we’re even debating this 43 %
229 votes

“Avoid this by using vocabulary such as ‘students’, ‘class’, ‘crew’, ‘everyone’, people’ or ‘year X’ that are more inclusive.”

Schools would be discouraged from separating boys and girls on sporting days.

“Where possible, schools should organise non-gendered teams, physical education activities and sports days,” the guidelines say.

“Many transgender and gender diverse children often withdraw from taking part in sport and physical activities because they feel highly uncomfortable or are forced into teams that do not match with their gender identity.

“Swimming and aquatic activities or any other sport where tight fitting clothing is worn can be unsettling for children who identify as a gender different from their physical attributes.

“Schools should be flexible with regard to clothing type and participation.”

Guidelines are also outlined for school outings and camps.

“When considering school excursions including overnight stays, the teacher in charge of the excursion should consult with LGBTQI students, parents and support teams to confirm preferences,” the document says.

“Children should be able to access personal facilities such as toilets and showers and sleep in the same sleeping quarters as other children of their affirmed gender.

“However, any child who is LGBTQI and who has a need or desire for increased privacy, regardless of the underlying reason, should be provided with reasonable personal facilities and accommodation options, which may include a private room.”

Teachers are told that consideration must be given to the safety of other students, but children are warned that raising such concerns could be considered bullying.

“If a child, or their peers, do not agree that they would feel safe and comfortable sharing, seek alternative solutions and acknowledge that this is an indication of possible exclusionary behaviour and potential bullying toward the LGBTQI child,” the guidelines say.

“Have a process in place, such as monitoring interactions or swapping out children who feel uncomfortable, to reduce the likelihood of ongoing bullying.

“Educating children and parents about human rights and discrimination is a good first step to avoiding concerns. Also, emphasise that the safety and wellbeing of each and every child takes priority.”

Education Minister Lauren Moss said she wouldn’t comment on the specifics of the guidelines as this was a draft document that was still the subject of consultation.

“I think it’s really important that we are creating welcoming and inclusive environments for all students and that includes our students who are LGBTQI,” she said.

“We know that often these students are young people and children who experience greater levels of harm or greater levels of isolation or greater levels of bullying and we need to make sure that we are working together as a school community to support all of our students and make sure that they all feel welcome.”

But Country Liberal Party Senate candidate Jacinta Price said the guidelines were political correctness gone mad.

“I’m stunned that the Gunner Government would even consider attempting to apply any Marxist ideology into our schooling system here in the Northern Territory.”

She said it was absurd the NT Government was spending so much time and energy pursuing the guidelines given the appalling rates of school attendance in remote communities.

“It goes to show that the Northern Territory Government’s priorities are all mixed up,” she said.
Ms Moss said consultation was underway with students, “school bodies and with our education stakeholders”.

“We know that for many students across Australia schools haven’t been the most welcoming place for them and we want to make sure that we get this right,” she said.

Pauline: Was much scrappier than I expected.
Campbell: Was overshadowed by the other three larger personalities – perhaps I was making tea or something when he spoke.
Katter: Passionate as usual, to the point you think he’s going to break into tears – and his performance wins some sort of Gold Medal for his answers not remotely matching any of the questions.
Clive: Answered the questions head on & advanced his policies – in a structured manner.

They didn’t go for each as I’d expected – then again, their enemy is the Uniparty, & that party which was not represented at the debate.

The debate would have benefited from some tougher questions.

‘Should I part my hair in the middle or to one side?’
‘On the first date, should I offer to pay half or all the bill?’
‘How do I make girls talk to me?’
‘Should I be confident? Overconfident, or self-deprecating like Hugh Grant?’

Tough crowd.

From “The Age.”

Ben Roberts-Smith’s first SAS witness and the men who did not exist
Harriet Alexander
By Harriet Alexander
April 19, 2022 — 6.46pm

Justice Anthony Besanko has heard many variations on the story of what happened at the village compound dubbed Whisky 108 in southern Afghanistan on Easter Sunday, 2009.

Australian Special Air Service patrols were sweeping the compound after an air strike, one working anti-clockwise past the living quarters on the western wall, another moving clockwise to “close the circuit”. Ben Roberts-Smith’s troop leader, Person 5, was in the second group and moving through animal pens when, he told the court on Tuesday, an Afghan officer noticed a suspicious set up and called him back.

“To me it just looked like green grass,” Person 5 said. “He was calling me back because things that are unnatural in a compound, the Afghans see a lot better than Western eyes do.”

Peeling off the grass, the court heard, they discovered the entrance to a tunnel.

Witnesses called by The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times have told the Federal Court that men were pulled from the tunnel – though estimates vary as to how many emerged. There has also been testimony that two men, who Roberts-Smith claimed were enemy combatants shot outside the compound, were killed by Roberts-Smith or another SAS soldier while under the custody of Australian troops.

But Person 5, who is the first of Roberts-Smith’s witnesses called to give evidence, told Justice Besanko on Tuesday the men supposedly pulled from the tunnel simply did not exist.

After the tunnel was discovered, several troopers offered to go down and check for enemy combatants, he said, and he nominated Person 35 because his stature was best suited to tunnel work.

“He was in there no more than a couple of minutes,” Person 5 said in evidence. “He then came back, stuck his head up and said it was clear.”

There was no room in this version of the story for a scenario in which an elderly man was pulled from the tunnel, as Person 43 testified, let alone two people, as Person 40 testified. There was no way that Roberts-Smith could have kicked one of those non-existent people to the ground, as Person 41 testified. The notion that Person 5 might have ordered a junior soldier, Person 4, to kill one of those mythical Afghans, or later boasted that he had “blooded the rookie”, as Person 14 testified, would not make sense on the basis of Person 5’s account.

In Person 5’s version of events, a man with a prosthetic leg was killed outside the compound. He conceded that he had later drunk from the leg, along with his troops at the unauthorised soldiers’ bar, the Fat Lady’s Arms.

Why? Roberts-Smith’s barrister, Arthur Moses, SC, enquired. “It was a cultural thing,” Person 5 explained. “Some of the junior officers were drinking out of it. Never ask your men to do something you aren’t willing to do yourself.”

Pauline did let rip on the other three somewhat at the conclusion of the question (totally unanswered by those three) about why they didn’t form some sort of coalition. Her individualist and defensively protected views (High Dudgeon about how “I’ll talk to anyone even Greens and ‘the’ Labor”) lack any real consistency or overall coherence and the other three similarly pushed their own barrows. Some of the aims were good and did seem to be held in common as Liberal Party failures – better defense, more dams, less climate change and proper full base-load power, less taxation, less money thrown at greens and more accountability. Campbell Newman had the most developed policy platform and hence was far less exciting for fun TV than the big dramatic movers with grand schemes such as Palmer’s and Katter’s, who were both a hoot, Big Clive sticking to his ‘I’m a Constitutional statesman with high-flying business experience’ script and Katter busting his emotional boiler in an Oscar-winning performance.

Pauline and Katter display socialist elements – Katter in agriculture (Ok, I agree, don’t sell off the farm) and Pauline supporting Big Govt Welfare with no privatisations. Which of course is quite counter to the LDP approach of small goverenment and business immigration. This three will never agree much except on some major directions – but not on how to get there. The four of them will be very ‘prone to influence’ as the lawyers put it when talking of how a skitty woman can be duchessed.

I’ve never worked in a bank, at a bank, of for a bank. Doubtless others have.

However, I am prepared to speculate that bank employees will only rarely be threatened by colleagues with baseball bats. The Hun:

The head of National Australia Bank’s repo trading desk has alleged a “boys’ club culture” at the bank in a human rights complaint, alleging she was subjected to years of underpayment, racial and sexual discrimination, threatened with a baseball bat, and repeatedly ignored by management.

Longtime NAB employee Dikele Diawara has taken aim at her employer, alleging she was subjected to years of poor behaviour by her boss, head of trading Tim McCaughey, and ignored by other members of the “overwhelmingly male” trading team in repos, or secured repurchase agreements.

What possible reason could there be for these atrocities?

In her 17-page complaint Ms Diawara alleges NAB had “discriminatory pay practices” that saw her paid less than what the bank was paying men “in the same or similar roles”. Ms Diawara alleges this was because she was a black woman from France.

Surely that must be a typo. Reading on:

She alleges NAB’s culture and Mr McCaughey, her immediate superior, drove her to depression due to behaviour that would not have happened if she were not female, black or French.

I find this difficult to believe. As a black French woman myself, I’ve never been subject to this sort of behaviour – bank or no bank.

“Fortunately, a stranger, a woman nearby, spotted him and started performing CPR immediately. Quite extraordinarily, she had just completed a CPR course herself.” Campbell had a pulse when paramedics arrived about 15 minutes later and has been in hospital, unresponsive, since.

Bugs are out, seaweed is in.

End of the world: Experts warn to stockpike SEAWEED to slash impact of Russian nuke (19 Apr)

In a new paper published in the journal Nutrients, the researchers argue that with global cooperation, humanity could survive a catastrophic event, like a nuclear war.

Juan García Martínez, from the Alliance to Feed the Earth in Disasters said: “We’re trying to promote preparedness — a culture of having institutions, government and companies prepared for a kind of global catastrophe that has been quite neglected.”

For the nutrient, the experts recommend that seaweed farms be installed, as it requires little sun, and can be protected against radiation.

Seaweed is rich in antioxidants and contains several vitamins including A, C, and E, along with protective pigments.

It also contains iodine, which is a key nutrient used to prevent the worst impacts of nuclear radiation, making it a perfect crop to grow in such a scenario.

I wonder what the new apocalypse will be next year? And what inedible food items will be essential to save everyone from it?

https://alexanifantis86.medium.com/its-time-men-started-working-like-women-e9f5a70a1477

It’s time men started working like women!

As a heterosexual man, I understand that I am the least entitled person who should be talking about a woman’s perspective on society. All I have are vague ideas given to me from conversations that I’ve had with my female friends or awkward experiences that I myself have been forced to endure while going out with aforementioned friends or relatives (sister, cousins).

I feel sorry for this dude. He’s been lied to his entire life.

….I’m talking about guys who put zero effort in their appearance: an untrimmed beard, an outfit that was obviously worn before, a beer belly, hair that hadn’t been cut or washed in ages and even long fingernails. For men, these can be considered minor details, but for women, they’re all major red flags….

Oh my sweet summer child. Brad Pitt pays an awful lot of money to look poor. Women still want to bonk him.

If you’re a 4 ft tall midget and look Hans Moleman, no amount of effort is going to help unless you are loaded.

This guy needs to look up the hot prisoner meme.

You see, back in the day, a woman didn’t care what a man looked like, so long as she was chosen by one and got the opportunity to live in a proper house, rather than spend her life in servitude. And even then, she would need to cater to her husband’s every need. Sounds great for us men, right?

???

Marriage has always been about protecting women* or in more modern times, a transfer of wealth from men to women (and hence why marriage is deincentivised now for men). This idea is quite bizarre. The woman’s family had a say. They had an emotional and financial interest too. Maybe this kid should take to his grandparents or great grandparents? Maybe he should look at celebrity marriages like Grace Kelly – whose family is said to have considered the Princely Grimaldis as beneath them.

*As to engender family formation.

Men need to try harder

No junior. Here’s some facts. Not the list of 101 things a monkey trainer wants.

Not all women out effort into their appearance. Ever heard of pulling the pin on the fat grenade?

I have hobbies because they’re fun. I have been over-schooled, all I can read for pleasure is history or medical stuff I find interesting. The idea that you need to read books to look after your girlfriend’s mind is strange and oddly codependent.**

You need to be brave, but also caring.

Most people have never been in a physical altercation as an adult, fewer of them know what they are doing, fewer of them have seen martial combat.

Unless you know what you are doing, call the cops, don’t be a hero kid.

You need to be financially independent.

Do women? If men and women don’t need each other, what’s the point? Whatever happened to a young couple scraping together and GROWING together? Nope, men must be millionaire Chad before they’re 30, and it is sexist to reject older women. Also women can have kids at 40 and older.

There are not many incentives left for men, because weak men have allowed women to become so entitled…but ultimately cheated even more than men.

You need to be able to hold a proper conversation, but also know when to shut up and listen.

Just be yourself, but also be perfectly masculine but also a doormat. Kewl kewl. I totally don’t have to sacrifice my own dignity for this!

…and it just gets worse and worse.

*It’s none of your business if a women looks attractive in public.
*Women can do what they like with their bodies, it’s literally current year minus one.
*Women are just as good at men at anything so men need to keep up.

**Do you use a landline phone with a second person pressing half of the numbers?

I hope this guy has a father to slap some sense into him.

All has to do is live with a girlfriend who is a pig for a week and the illusion will be shattered.

I feel his blue pilled days will end with a volcanic level of red pill rage.

In this world anything worthwhile was and continues to be built by men and women, together. Each has played their part and will continue to play their part (unprononed and unwoke) notwithstanding the BS of equity and equality. Jordan Peterson is very eloquent on this point particularly when he talks about women in countries that have legislated on equality of opportunity -equality of outcome (aka equity) is a different matter all together.

Apparently some people prefer the ‘gig economy’.

Unions don’t.
They pay the ALP’s bills.

As Rowan Dean says, Morrison is on a winner out in the suburbs in standing up for women’s sport against the poofter lobby and rats in the ranks like Matt Kean:

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has backed Scott Morrison’s position on women competing against women in sport as the Prime Minister stood behind embattled Liberal candidate for Warringah Katherine Deves and resisted calls to disendorse her.

The support, in a private text message, puts Mr Perrottet at odds with his Treasurer, Matt Kean, who on Tuesday led calls from moderate NSW Liberals to disendorse Ms Deves.

Mr Perrottet texted the Prime Minister at the weekend assuring him he had his support over the substantive issue of women competing against women in sport. The Premier said Mr Morrison had the right approach to the issue and it was one that the majority of Australians supported.

Liberal sources familiar with the text exchange said it did not mention Mr Kean specifically but was designed to assure Mr Morrison that he had the support of the NSW government.

The Prime Minister stood firm against a “pile on’’ from political opponents and Liberal moderates for Ms Deves to be disendorsed.

“She is a woman, standing up for women, and girls and their access to fair sport in this country,” Mr Morrison said.

I suppose appointment as Ambassador in DC would be seen as inferior to the jobs Kevin wants, like Sec Gen of the UN, or boss of the WEF. If he’s eyeing being first Prez of Australia that would be fun too. He and Turnbull could do a duel at dawn on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin or something.

He had another go when he realised he’d said “Chink”.

Like many so-called “progressives”, Dickless looks for waaayyyysissssm wherever he can find it. He is too stupid (and illiterate0 to realise that many words have multiple meanings, and should be considered in context.

Sad, low energy.

After reading the comments on Kevni’s tweet its no wonder this country is in the shitter. This is the true pandemic. These people are past being stupid, they are terminally ill. Time to turn off life support. The left have no answers for anything. Is there one of them that actually produces anything?

And yet Saving Women’s Sport P/L is a votewinner [according to Scotty From Marketing]?

Dickless seems to have cooled off on his former best maaaate Scotty. The Stradivarius seems to be out of tune, strings sounded better when they were in the cat?

Also, Ed is a misogynist.

Tinta

women in countries that have legislated on equality of opportunity -equality of outcome (aka equity) is a different matter all together.

So-called “progressives” have taken great pains to confuse the poorly educated or stupid that equality of outcome is “fairer” than equality of opportunity.

“…no matter how cleverly the Bill may be written.”

Which is exactly why it should be negative rights and in the constitution – that is, “Government cannot…”, not “Citizen must be allowed…”.
The idea is to restrict the power of government, not grant “rights” to people.

Exactly.
I’ve always had this fear over a “bill of rights” , that it places distinct guard rails on the people not the state.

Who is the ‘Jimmy’ in Rowe’s cartoon.

Also, is the joke about ‘poll dancers’ supposed to be mocking politicians who would do what the electorate wants?

It seems it was all a vicious lie that Australian postal workers refused to handle mail for Vietnam, and Numbers was fed on C Rations, loaded by Australian unionists…funny, I thought C Rations were American issue.

I’m starting to think that over the last two years, the Australian governance has been proven to be such a weak and vicious beast… that we need a national Rabz doctrine. ie
Shut it down

Rights aren’t granted, they’re inherent.

A bill of rights merely recognises that.

Green levies cost the UK economy about £11 billion a year in total, putting £150 a year on the average household electricity bill, and a further £250 per household on the annual cost of living, a total of £400 per household per year. The levies also depress wages and rates of employment.
