“Anthony Albanese hints at permanent visa for Tamil family as Biloela community celebrate their return”

And so it begins. The Sri Lankan leaky boat industry will be thrilled with this announcement. I bet you anything they are preparing postcards and posters saying “now that PM Albo and Labor are in charge, we’re getting the boats ready!”

What a disgrace.

Adam, that’s almost incomprehensible.

40 degrees and I’m feeling all of the fluids sucked out of the body.

Just 43 degrees outside right now, feels quite cool in comparison.

Dover, it was 33 degrees minimum last night. When I lived in Cairns back in the day I didn’t like air conditioning, used to sleep with a big fan directed straight at me. Always preferred that solution on hot nights. Not here, full air conditioning and it is and thank you very much for Saudi electricity prices which remind me of Cairns circa 1995.

You can now claim from the car insurer if you catch genital warts in someone’s car.

Geico Ordered To Pay $5.2 Million To Woman Who Contracted HPV In Man’s Car (11 Jun)

A Missouri Court of Appeals has upheld a $5.2 million award against GEICO after a woman filed a claim because she contracted a sexually transmitted disease in the car of a man who was insured by the company, according to court documents.

The woman, a resident of Jackson County identified in court papers only as “M.O.” – said she contacted human papillomavirus (HPV) from the her ex-boyfriend in November and December 2017 after she “engaged in unprotected sexual activities in Insured’s vehicle.”

In a February 2021 petition to Geico, the woman claimed that the man “negligently caused or contributed to” her catching the disease. She made a final settlement offer of $1 million to resolve her claims, which Geico denied.

In an opinion published Tuesday and reported by NBC News, the Court of Appeals for the Western District of Missouri affirmed the judgement after Geico challenged the decision through an arbitrator, who found in her favor.

I’m bemused. The justice system is getting crazier and crazier. How do you sustain a nation which decisions like this?

Strike me up as a very big fan of German food on cold winter nights. The Dutch are also quite good for that too, favorite dish for me being Stamppot – lots of thick bacon cooked in butter and lard, throw in a bunch of onions and then some thick diced potatoes. Then you cover with kale and throw on top these really awesome thick pork sausages which you have already browned. The fill up with chicken stock, put on the lid and walk away for a couple of hours. Come back, remove the sausages, get a potato masher and press all the rest down into a big mess, cut up the sausages and mix in together. Winter comfort food does not get better. Serve with great globs of yellow mustard.

Nothing is stopping the Nadesalingam family seeking permanent residency in Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says, following the Tamil asylum seekers’ return to Biloela.

Yup and the vomit worthy pieces I have seen gushing over Albansleazy and horse face this week stated he was going to stop sending their scum back to them.

As for the Coalition they did absolutely nothing to challenge Mordy, they are complicit in the above. Looks like naval resources are about to be stretched to the limit again. A mate tells me when he did Sov Borders business was so brisk the Navy were struggling to crew the boats and the Armidale class were copping such a flogging they were having reliability issues.

Memories of dining with Mme Zulu, in a “brown cafe” in Rotterdam – the waiter was “doing a line” with two seriously pretty young ladies at the next table. “These people come all the way from Australia to eat our Stamppot…”

Adam, Saudi hey. I’ve only been to the peripheral countries around Saudi. The thing I remember was the sand and horrible driving. Not too many rocks just sand, though the UAE on the Indian ocean had rocky areas.

As for the temp, 51 deg. Worked in Central South Australia near Woomera in 1996 where the shade temp was pushing 48 deg at 10am most days. Was regularly making 50 deg but the thermometer may not have been BOM standard. On the work cars I have seen in El Nino years on CQ sites regular 48, 49 deg in December when a NW is blowing. I can take the dry heat but humidity is a killer though, been in 42 deg with 95% humidity in areas near the Lao-Thai border in May before, no air con too. Now that was oppressive.

LOL Ed goes both ways. Judiciary is increasingly straying into areas that the Parliament should decide IMHO. Some reason the Legislature & Executive seem to be reluctant to protect their turf. Personally if the esteemed Justices want to stray outside their arcs then they should be subject to election or at minimum some sort of recall type provisions. Might keep them honest. However suppose you get that with a parliament full of lawyers being reluctant to take on their own.

However I digress from the subject at hand, if they (politicians) really wanted to I reckon they would have found an end run around Mordy or appealed it to the higher. They did none of that.

Albanese touted his Catholicism, during the election campaign he attended Easter Mass with his squeeze in Townsville and he then appeared at his old school, St Mary’s Cathedral School in Sydney’s CBD, and was mobbed by pimply schoolboys. However, when sworn in as PM, he didn’t take the oath on a bible. It was all a media show designed to con a gullible electorate.

Albanese has always touted the fact that he grew up in housing commission, even though his grandfather and uncle were printers. As Mark Latham says, and Latham himself grew up in public housing in Sydney’s west, Albanese didn’t grow up in abject poverty. His mother, more than likely, got public housing due to the fact that she was a single mother. Again, this spiel is all a media show designed to con a gullible electorate. It also plays into his “comrade socialist “I fight Tories” bullshit.

As you say above, these fables tell you all you need to know about him.

The timing of the settlement on the frog sub fiasco looks odd.

We terminated presumably in accordance with either a termination for convenience or default on the part of the frog’s.

Given the contract size you’d expect lawyers and forensic accountants to argue the rights and wrongs for a year or 2 until exhaustion set in and then highest representatives of the 2 parties would meet and come to some compromise.

It looks to me that Albo’s government has directed Defense to settle so they can get on with binging on travel to avoid dealing with domestic issues.

but goes on to make statements that defend pedophilia as an innate sexual orientation, comparing the desire to sexually abuse children to homosexuality.

Probably correct. The poor perverts have got their wires crossed. The whole business of sexual arousal is intended, by God, mother nature or the blind forces of evolution to be triggered by an adult of the opposite sex in order to produce babies. When the wiring goes wrong, someone gets turned on by an adult of the same sex, or a child, or a three week old corpse, or a sheep, or possibly an old bag smacking his bum while wearing a nazi hat with a swastika on it. The wrong sensory input triggers the sexual arousal. We know it’s the wrong one, because none of the above lead to babies, which is the whole point of sex, seen from the pov of God, mother nature or the blind forces of evolution. So yes, wanting to bugger another bloke or wanting to rape a child are certainly similar. And if you want to do either, even if you restrain yourself from actually doing it, there is something wrong with your brain wiring. We can feel sorry for you, but we can understand those who find you disgusting. And even understand those who want to throw you off the top of a tall building.

Wally – The Killers have a nice bitey flavour, like Franz Ferdinand I think.

I’ve just gone through all 10 of the tracks on that Gorgeous Wrecks album I linked. Very very good. Like a cross between Morcheeba, Garbage and Calexico (if any of that makes sense). Maybe seven out of ten were seriously good, the other three decent album tracks. Released Oct 2021 yet ten or twenty views each. Contrast with The Killers – Bones with 23 million views, which is just as good as those ones.

It’s going to be bloody hard for new groups to break into the big time now. Thirty years ago this Gorgeous Wrecks LP could do as well as Garbage, now they obviously can’t get heard except by a complete accident like now, when I lucked onto them. I’ll bookmark it for a few more listens.

It’s not as though there isn’t a precedent. Putin is another chapter in Russia’s blood-soaked story Jamie WalkerFollow @JamieWalkerOz

12:00AM June 11, 2022

If there is a Russian way of making war, Antony Beevor is impeccably placed to describe it. The best-selling British author and knight of the realm delved deep into once-sealed communist military archives to flesh out his searing accounts of the battles for Stalingrad and Berlin in World War II, shedding fresh light on the brutality of warfare on the Eastern Front.

He has raked over familiar ground in a new book on the bloody prelude to that epic, ideology-infused clash between Stalin’s Red Army and Hitler’s Wehrmacht. Russia: Revolution and Civil War 1917-1921 tells the gripping story of what spun out of the fall of the tsars and rise of the communist Bolsheviks in 1917 – a conflict of staggering scope that killed 12 million people, dragged in the armed forces of the West – including Australian volunteers – and set the scene for even greater slaughter when the world went to war in 1939.

It couldn’t be more timely, given the fraught situation in Ukraine. Vladimir Putin certainly fits the bill of any Russian or Soviet-era autocrat, given his monstrous disregard for human life, be it of a purported enemy or of his own soldiers. Think Nicholas II’s nihilistic arrogance or Lenin’s contemptuous view of “individuals as completely expendable objects”, to quote Russian revolutionary exile and writer Teffi, whose acerbic observations enliven Beevor’s book.

History echoes in the bitter fighting taking place today in the industrial heartland of Donbas in Ukraine’s southeast. The horse-mounted cavalry of the Reds and the anti-Bolshevik Whites wheeled there in the summer of 1919, slashing at each other with sabres on the same dusty flats that would be traversed by German panzers 23 years later as the doomed 6th Army advanced on Stalingrad. Then, as now, the northeastern city of Kharkiv was fought over again and again, like some spiteful giant’s plaything.

The savagery of the Russian civil war, which raged on until 1921, set a grim new benchmark for enmeshing the civilian population in the chaos of carnage of total war in the 20th century. As terrible as World War I was, it was mostly a soldier on soldier affair, waged on discrete battlefields. When the home front suffered physically, it was typically through shortages of food and medicine. The British navy’s blockade of imperial Germany’s limited sea approaches was particularly telling, contributing to starvation that stalked the urban poor as the armistice neared.

But as Beevor points out, the cruelty inflicted on civilians in the Russian civil war had not been experienced in Europe since the wars of religion in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Reds’ vicious Cheka set a blood-soaked standard for the thugs of the NKVD, SMERSH and later the KGB in the Soviet Union as well as the Nazi Gestapo.

They were matched atrocity for atrocity by the Whites, an unwieldy alliance of counter-revolutionaries, monarchists, non-Bolshevik socialists, democrats and Russian nationalists whose colour of choice came from the deposed Romanovs but who had little in common except their shared hatred of Lenin’s creed of communism.

Still, they were just as eager as the Reds to press-gang peasants at bayonet point or force them to turn over winter stocks to detested “food detachments”, guaranteeing a slow, lingering death when the snows came; prisoners of war – if taken – were routinely tortured or summarily executed by both sides in hideous ways.

I don’t think that’s quite correct. There were frequent historical massacres of civilians in Europe after the 17th century. The Khmelnytsky massacres of Jews, the ongoing pogroms against Jews in Eastern Europe, the massacres of Christians in the Vendée region of France between 1793 to 1796 are some examples.

Stitching together a common thread-
Early Black Crowes produced by George Drakoulais, inc the seminal album Amorica.
Fourth Primal Scream album, Give Out But Don’t Give Up, saw the hooverin’ scots go to Drakoulais’ studio to record the follow-up to the globe-conquering Screamadelica.
Australian backyard legends You Am I went there too in ’93 (?) for #4 Record, which is patchy- mainly cos they dabbled in pastiche- but a favourite, and a quickly cooling-off followup to the all-loved Hourly, Daily.
Maybe more to come.
In the meantime Bruce- The Scream Team, riffage, backing singers and little else. Works a treat. B-side for the wonks.

Maybe Elbow’s mum was already pregnant before she went cruising, and the cruise was bought and paid for to get her out of the way and avoid embarrassment.

So update on the weather in Saudi – today I experienced my first serious sandstorm. Had to keep my mouth closed otherwise it would fill up with grit. Wind was strong enough to push you back or blow you off balance. Air temperature like an oven and then the wind and the very fine sand to go with it. Official forecast today said ‘fine and windy’. Driving home through city traffic and there were sand clouds blowing down the road that looked exactly like what snow does in similarly windy conditions.

Lombards are a kraut tribe. Even their particular dialect is a nasty guttural sound like some poor fuck clearing his throat during a nasty bout of Covid. Italian heritage doesn’t really go any further north than Genoa and coastal France, most which was taken away by the frogs.

Venetians are basically Croatian.

Look (as I’ve always maintained) slavery has had a bad rap. The Romans used to wonder up in those woods and round up some “workers” when needed. Best Empire ever without a doubt. They just didn’t make any presentations in terms of what it was all about. Personally, I prefer the old pagan empire because they weren’t given a guilt trip by Christianity. 🙂

I have a slightly different experience with recent trip to dentist to repair chipped tooth. No request for vax status (thank goodness) but required to put on confounded mask while sitting in empty waiting room.

All good during procedure until dentist noted slightly discoloured teeth – drumming up possibility, naturally, of further business at later date. I suggested reason was perhaps too frequent use of Betadine gargle.

“We should do what they did to Josh.”

Umm, yes, wouldn’t that be nice but that would require a Liberal party with some spine, some gall and some ideological meanness. There’s a lot of garbage in Labor that the Liberals could go after.

Oh and there’s nothing wrong with being “mean”, Labor and the Greens are always mean. The Teals were mean during their campaign, actually they were vicious in how they targeted the various sitting Liberals in electorates like Wentworth, Kooyong, Goldstein and Curtin.

I’m pretty sure the Liberals will continue doing what they do best, being nice, not being mean because they’re feeble and ineffectual. They should be furious at what happened three weeks ago and furious as to how Morrison sold them down the gurgler. But nope, they’ll just carry on being supine, which is what they’re good at. Remember how, after they won in a landslide back in 2013, Abbott quickly appointed Stott-Despoja to a cushy position, and how Abbott was sooooo nice re. Billy Shorten’s mother-in-law, the vile and venal Quentin Bryce, who offered her resignation yet the Liberals were just too nice and refused it. A Liberal government with any spine would have accepted her resignation. Ya reckon Labor would have been so nice if the situation was reversed? I don’t think so.

I remember last year, when the utterly absurd Porter story broke, and I watched the always feeble and ineffectual Morrison face a barrage of media and he was on the backfoot. All he could and should have said is “we can discuss Christian Porter when you’re prepared to discuss Bill Shorten”. But that would take a leader and party with some courage and spine and yes, the willingness to be mean. But no, the Liberal party doesn’t do meanness, instead it cowers in a corner in fear.

Farmer Gez, glad I’m not on a tractor in the freezing westerly wind today.

Wish I was on the tractor.
Putting seed and fert in a grouper and servicing seeding gear.
Grease, mud, cramped spaces and a cold breeze.
What’s the best thing to stop the old hands from cracking in this weather?
Any suggestions welcome.

Further to shatterzzz’s 0834:

The increased cost of living was also being felt, and many people had the “hidden burden” of having to support family back in their home countries, Ms Nyuon added.

I’ve got a feeling in my waters Mizz Nyuon would be delighted if the tax payers
would stop being racist and ease that hidden burden for her.

What’s with all the livestock destroyed? Presumably authorities declare a disease outbreak which then gives them authoritar to kill them all?

Dunno.
FDR ruled by Decree for 100 days after Inauguration in 1933.
Among the things he ordered was for the B of Ag. to travel the Country slaughtering farmers hogs and cattle.
By 1937 the Depression hadn’t ended, it had gotten worse.
The Biden Admin. appears to be completing all the [bad] things that FDR couldn’t accomplish.

Porter’s legal team should have leaked the whole stigmata horseshit.
They had access to it, but didn’t leak it.

It woulda been pretty obvious where the leak originated, goodbye Legal Career.

I’m very pleased with Frank Packer.
He managed to keep Googlery occupied this morning.

The final series of Ozark was a fizzer.
The final series of Peaky Blinders was a fizzer (actually after the first two series Peaky Blinders wasn’t much chop).
Name a recent series that went out on top?

PS Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister isn’t recent.

In Paddo yesterday, I saw one of John Ibrahim’s more…ahh…judicially challenged family members.
He was wearing a Harvard jumper.
I’m thinking that could be another chapter in the Underbelly series.

Either the story is wrong (always a strong possibility) or they have snuck in through some special ‘act of grace’ category which I’ve not heard of, but I’m no expert on the subject.

Quite likely the couple from Iraq were part of Abbott’s special intake of c. 12000.

Farmer Gez,

There is a product I love called MooGoo Udder Cream*. It is one of the best moisturisers I have ever used. It is found in health food stores only and retails at about $15 for 120gms, small enough to keep in your pocket to use as needed during the day.

* I found an unopened tube for $6 at a second-hand store three weeks ago. Seized my chance there, too. I really hate paying full price for anything. It’s almost like a personal affront.

As for the young African lady, as others have noted, the mindset is “government must provide”.

She’s been well acculturated.
