“After a staggering 16.5 percent more births than normal in the second quarter of 2021, Iceland has struggled to increase capacity in its maternity wards. Finland has seen a 7 percent leap in births, and Denmark and Norway have experienced 3 and 5 percent bumps, respectively. (Sweden boasts a very modest 1 percent increase).”

I’m prepared to accept there may be a need to place some limits on groundwater use. My BIL has had a couple of water points run dry after converting a wheat farm to a sandalwood and host tree plantation. Conversely groundwater became an issue once a local pine forest was clear felled for housing. I don’t think you have to do much to upset the balance.

that most useless of positions — human resources.

A friend of mine was given some sage advice when he and a couple of colleagues went out on their own:
“When the business gets big enough to need an HR person, it’s time to sell out”.
He did. Retired at about 55. At this moment sailing a yacht round the Greek islands. Lucky bastard – but it wasn’t just luck.

At least my school trip wasn’t like the crossing we watched a few years ago in Kakadu on the edge of Arnhem land where aborigines in clapped-out vehicles were fording a deep weir where people were regularly taken by crocs. Last one, written up in the NT times, had been only two weeks prior and their abandonned broken down car was still visible run over the weir. It all added a certain frission to the group viewing this drama lining the banks, especially as we too had to look out for crocs, on land.

Predictably, mine fell down and got wet. It didn’t dampen any enthusiasm though.

None of the girls wore trousers for that camp. We were very into looking pretty and feminine.

From Alan Moran:

Plugging Into The Future:

It’s Not Insurmountable BUT!

From A Sparky In Melbourne

It Really Aint Gonna Work!!
Leastwise Not Yet Any Way

Some Wise Words From An Electrical Contractor In Melbourne
I recently did some work for the body corporate at the Dock 5 Apartment Building in Docklands in Melbourne to see if we could install a small number of electric charging points for owners to charge their electric vehicles.
We had our first three applications and we discovered:
1. The building has no non- allocated parking spaces ie public ones. This is typical of most apartment buildings so we cannot provide shared outlets.
2. The power supply in the building was designed for the loads in the building with virtually no spare capacity. Only 5 or 6 chargers could be installed in total in a building with 188 apartments!!
3. How do you allocate them as they would add value to any apartment owning one. The shit-fight started on day one with about 20 applications received 1st day and with many more following.
4. The car park sub-boards cannot carry the extra loads of even one charger and would have to be upgraded on any floors with a charger as would the supply mains to each sub board.
5. The main switch board would then have to be upgraded to add the heavier circuit breakers for the sub mains upgrade and furthermore:
6. When Docklands was designed a limit was put on the number of apartments in each precinct and the mains and transformers in the streets designed accordingly.
This means there is no capacity in the Docklands street grid for any significant quantity of car chargers in any building in the area.
7. It gets better. The whole CBD (Hoddle Grid, Docklands) and Southbank is fed by two sub stations. One in Port Melbourne and one in West Melbourne.
This was done to have two alternate feeds in case one failed or was down for maintenance. Because of the growth in the city /Docklands and Southbank now neither one is capable of supplying the full requirement of Melbourne zone at peak usage in mid- summer if the other is out of action. The Port Melbourne 66,000 volt feeder runs on 50 or 60 year old wooden power poles above ground along Dorcas Street South Melbourne. One is pole is located 40 cm from the corner Kerb at the incredibly busy Ferrars /St Dorcas St Intersection and is very vulnerableto being wiped out by a wayward vehicle.
The infrastructure expenditure required would dwarf the NBN cost & that’s not including the new power stations required!
These advocates of electric vehicles by 2040 are completely bonkers! It takes 5-8 years to design and build a large coal fired power station like Loy Yang and even longer for a Nuclear one (That’s after you get the political will, permits and legislative changes needed). Wind and solar just can’t produce enough. Tidal power might but that’s further away than nuclear.
MOST AUSTRALIANS DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS YET……………..!
It’s just a greenies dream in the foreseeable future other than in small wealthy countries.
It will no doubt ultimately come but not in the next 20 years…

The grid simply cannot support it in most places in Australia!

A few Japanese engineers could shorten that 5-8 year installation gap for HILE. We need to get moving on that quickly to keep the grid anyway functional.

But the huge looming problem of the load on the grid by EV’s and the apartment charging deficits, that’s a very telling installer’s account from Reality Land. Should be widely read – leaflet all apartment buildings with it, for example.

The point is that they weren’t happening at the same time.
The “baby boom” was occurring less than 9 months after mass covid vaccinations started happening. The drought started occurring approximately when the 9 month point was reached. Correlation isn’t causation, but one might legitimately ask what did cause the start of the drought.
If there’s real data to the contrary, fine, but an article which again refers only to 2021 figures and your anecdotal comments about your two daughters aren’t it.

Re: the building & maintenance of dams & waterways-

Farmer Gez absolutely right. Some greenies trespassed on our creek paddock & reported to Sydney Water what they thought was an illegal weir. An officer turned up on Christmas Eve to inspect only to report that it was an ancient structure. Actually, we believe it was probably an Aboriginal fish trap. The nosy Greenies were wrong, and it was a nuisance. But it shows that waterways are policed by the bureaucrats.

Bear, I was there recently, and it is now yuuuge.
Previously the height limit around Bay St was generally 8-10 levels. There are now stacks of genuine high rise, and they are talking about developing Fisherman’s Bend.
Whoever wrote that piece was on the money.
Back as far as the Kennet era they were pushing their “Postcode 3000” campaign to get people to live in the city and also pushing Docklands.
Nearly 30 years on and infrastructure is an afterthought.
Sure, they couldn’t have foreseen EVs but they allowed zero excess capacity.
What will probably bring it to a head is the lights going out on Friday night footy.

When I was in Port Melbourne it wasn’t really the height. The only really tall one was HMAS something or other right on the bay. The footprint of some of the other buildings was huge – whole blocks in some cases. The complex I was renting in had 4 separate buildings, each about 8 stories with internal gardens and pool. Port Melbourne was dense but didn’t feel overcrowded. We had Gasworks Park over the road and a short walk to Bay St. I liked it.

Phil HickeyThe West Australian
Mon, 4 July 2022 8:49AM

Vegan activist Tash Peterson has vowed to leave WA once again after being banned from every pub and restaurant in the State, claiming her “freedom of speech” has been taken from her.

In a video posted to Facebook on Sunday night Peterson said she was “getting the f*** out of WA” and had booked a one way ticket to Melbourne with her partner Jack Higgs, who also appears in the video.

“Guess what WA, we are getting the f*** out of here,” Peterson said.

“As you may or may not know I have been banned from every liquor licence venue in Western Australia for a period of eight months.

“That was a result of a protest that I did, a non-violent protest in a restaurant. So my freedom of speech has been taken from me and we have a one-way ticket to Melbourne and I’m going to just going to protest over there.”

I respect his passion & determination. As an unvaccinated person I did not suffer the vitriol that so many others did. However, I know many who did, including very dear friends. I know he is largely preaching to the converted, but I feel his anger and frustration.

I will not, in the foreseeable future, let this anger go. I have on several occasions vented my spleen to Nick Cater, who sends me regular Menzies Insitute updates. Today in The Australian he wrote a fine piece empathising with us unjabbed who have suffered for our stance. It is important not to let them forget,

Re Struth’s focus on the vaccinations-

I respect his passion & determination. As an unvaccinated person I did not suffer the vitriol that so many others did. However, I know many who did, including very dear friends. I know he is largely preaching to the converted, but I feel his anger and frustration.

I will not, in the foreseeable future, let this anger go. I have on several occasions vented my spleen to Nick Cater, who sends me regular Menzies Insitute updates. Today in The Australian he wrote a fine piece empathising with us unjabbed who have suffered for our stance. It is important not to let them forget,

That’s a fair enough comment. However, with me it was all like ‘water off of a duck’s back’. I didn’t stay inside with the Lockdowns either as I was out and about every day thumbing my nose at all the BS.

I’ve seen data of birth declines in several countries, but haven’t checked in detail. However I have great faith in humanity knowing all about plugs and sockets. Humans can be sufficiently fecund to overcome a minor drop in birthrate – the main issue at present is all the government policies penalizing childbearing.

Thus I see no likelihood of a Children of Men issue, provided governments get their brains realigned. Not even of a Twilight of Briareus issue…to go to an earlier novel of the same general storyline. Richard Cowper’s novels are excellent SF.

It appears to be a reasonably balanced view of the law as it currently stands in the fled from state. Warts and all as you may say, neither gushing nor condemning.

https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/state-facts-about-abortion-ohio

RESTRICTIONS ON ABORTION
In Ohio, the following restrictions on abortion were in effect as of June 28, 2022:

A patient must receive state-directed counseling that includes information designed to discourage the patient from having an abortion, and then wait 24 hours before the procedure is provided. Counseling must be provided in person and must take place before the waiting period begins, thereby necessitating two trips to the facility.
Health plans offered in the state’s health exchange under the Affordable Care Act can only cover abortion in cases of life endangerment, or in cases of rape or incest.
Abortion is covered in insurance policies for public employees only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest.
Medication abortion must be provided using the FDA protocol.
The parent of a minor must consent before an abortion is provided.
Public funding is available for abortion only in cases of life endangerment, rape or incest.
Most patients will undergo an ultrasound before obtaining an abortion, since the provider must test for a fetal heartbeat. The patient will be offered the option to view the image.
Abortion is banned at six weeks of pregnancy, except in cases of life endangerment or severely compromised physical health.
The state prohibits abortions performed in response to genetic anomaly.
The state requires abortion clinics to meet unnecessary and burdensome standards related to their physical plant, equipment and staffing.

So basically the state which is being parodied as a redneck banjo plucking kiddie rooting throwback DOES allow abortion.

In this case because the kid is more than 6 weeks preggers they would have to meet the “life endangerment/compromised health” criteria.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags have flown on a rotational basis above the West Gate Bridge during Reconciliation and NAIDOC weeks since 2019.

But when NAIDOC week ends on Sunday, the Aboriginal flag will remain in place on the bridge, replacing Victoria’s state flag.

I suffered no vitriol Vicki as I am a man.
But Mrs Struth did.
I ended up going to places always ready for a fight for refusing to mask up.
It wore her down sticking to her principles so I would go with her to many places so she didn’t have to worry.
I got hardly any confrontations which is not I am claiming to be big and tough but because cowards mask up and don’t confront men very much it seems.
But we always had to be ready for it and snarl back at everyone complying.
I suffered discrimination and abuse from the government and from compliant businesses that “sat me on my arse” a term unknown to the dunderheads here, but to most Australians a term they well understand as to being put out of work.

What has happened to all of us is a disgrace and those that complied are partially responsible for it, all of them.
That may be an unwelcome fact, but it is a fact none the less.
And Vicki, I have not changed.
You are just seeing a struth who holds no respect toward people who excuse and riggle and try to deny what they have done, and justify it, like notafan, who actually went on holidays overseas using her Nazipass while her fellow Australians remained unemployed and imprisoned because they stood against the fascists, (many still are)……..that is a shitful act. And as for Melbourne’s maternity wards being swamped, unless you’ve got stats of actual births, that’s meaningless. The whole health system is swamped courtesy of Maximum Leader’s incompetence.

Swedish birth rates vary over the year and rise in January – May so its quite possible to have an increasing birth rate for a few months while that rate is down compared to previous years.

Re the 20% drop in Hungarian births reported here yesterday – I didn’t get a response to my question re the source so I checked: Hungary had a bumper year of births in 2021, the largest cohort in a decade, so it stands to reason there might be a drop this year, but nowhere near 20%.

Indigenous radio, we got a channel 4K1G “Too deadly” FM up here. The music they play is very Australian tinged but older artists. It isn’t too bad actually, I have it going sometimes on the weekend as it has little ads or mindless banter just the usual propaganda you’d expect from such a broadcaster.

Was out before and they were simulcasting 2GB Ray Hadley, sounds like a nasty day on the harbour. Ferries been cancelled. Freighter floundering off Royal National Park that Helicopters can’t fly to because of the conditions. Some fools that had to be rescued after their yacht overturned off Wollongong. The ECL however is not going to be as strong as expected and they are saying conditions should start to abate this arvo.

One thing I am noticing is the use of the ADF yet again, seems to be every time now where as once upon a time the SES would have dealt with stuff like this and the ADF for major stuff like a big cyclone or fire. Only time my dad ever got put on notice was for the Cyclone Tracy clean up and some bushfires in Victoria in the late ’80’s, ditto my mate who cleaned up after Larry but missed Yasi and the Brisbane Flood clean up. I was wondering whether states will start to underfund groups like the SES if daddy feds will just throw troops at every problem. Feds seem to have made a rod for their own backs with this one.

They’re night people. Classic tactics of an infantry-heavy army lacking air or artillery superiority. Infiltrate by night and get underground by day. It’s a strategy that still works.

Last night I was reading about the RAN in the Med. Matapan. The Pommy admiral decided to risk a night action, and it paid off big time when a flotilla of Italian heavy cruisers accidentally passed by night three British battleships at a range of two miles. One of the battleships had radar…

The Rats in Tobruk were night owls too. Incessant patrolling of the German/Italian lines after dark, lay up during the day.

Missed meals and constant stress: New Zealand’s cost-of-living crisis hits home
Study finds food insecurity causing ‘significant and enduring hardship’ as costs outstrip income for some sole parents

Households under pressure
Evans is one of a growing number of New Zealanders having to make hard choices as they struggle to make ends meet. Inflation is at its highest in 30 years, with annual food inflation sitting at 6.8%, and at 10% for fruit and vegetables. Ipsos polling in June showed rising living costs have far superseded Covid-19 as the most pressing issue on New Zealanders’ minds.
As a result, people are trying to stretch grocery budgets further, with some going to extraordinary lengths – New Zealand shoppers have ordered groceries from Australia to save money, others have turned to foraging and, more recently, some have reportedly resorted to eating garden snails and using a water spray bottle instead of toilet paper to cut down on costs.

But for others, tightening the purse strings is not an option – they simply do not have the money, and consequently families are going hungry.

The jab could have killed thousands of Australians.

The jab could have killed thousands of Australians.
A senior doctor speaks out, saying COVID jab deaths could be in their thousands.

From an email I received –

George Christensen
Jul 4
Dear reader,

In late 2021, when I was an Australian Member of Parliament, I had a then high-ranking hospital specialist tell me that deaths from the mRNA shots could be in their thousands in Australia.

He said severe under-reporting of COVID ‘vaccine’ deaths and adverse events was endemic in the medical profession.

At the time, I found the claim of thousands of deaths near incredulous given that the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) was saying confirmed deaths from the jab were in the single digits.

However, the TGA actually had received reports of hundreds of deaths after administration of the COVID shots.

(As of 30 June 2022, the number of TGA-confirmed ‘vaccine’ deaths sits at 13 while there have been 890 reported deaths after administration of the ‘vaccines’).

George now awaits the TGA’s considered response. Waiting, waiting, waiting, waiting………………..

“Incredulous” as an adjective qualifies someone or something that is capable of believing and processing information. In other words a human.

I suppose a chair might be incredulous. It would depend upon the width of the backside heading towards it.

Having finished watching .. THE OFFER .. the excellent mini-series on the making of THE GODFATHER I thought I’d revisit the movie seeing it’s 50 years since I last watched it .. quite disappointed! .. it hasn’t aged well or I’ve gotten more circumspect .. script comes across as fairly amateurish and a lot of the storyline is more of small episodes pushed together rather than continuous flow .. lotz of the settings looked what they were .. fake …!
Sadly, watchable but dated and some really poor/over-the-top acting by “big name” players ..
Brando .. painful! .. Pacino .. NO! .. Robert Duvall .. more grandad than gangster .. Jimmy Caan .. overdun! .. Diane Keaton .. no one is that naive! .. LOL!
best i can do is 5/10 but being a trouper I’ll follow thru with parts 2 & 3 .. which I don’t think I’ve ever seen as my drinking career was getting serious just as no 1 was came out .. LOL!

Inquiry into Indigenous treatment finds truth-telling ‘urgent’

An Australian-first inquiry into historical and contemporary injustices committed against Aboriginal people has found discriminatory policies such as those resulting in the stolen generation, massacres and frontier wars continue to negatively affect Indigenous people.

The Yoorrook Justice Commission — announced by the Victorian state government in May last year — handed down its interim report on Monday, finding the truth-telling inquiry is urgent to prevent injustices being repeated across further generations.

Following interviews, or yarning circles, with elders from across the state, the commission’s chair Eleanor Bourke said injustices continue to be suffered in Victoria.

“Each of the some 200 elders we spoke to pointed to the ongoing effects of discriminatory policies and racist beliefs, including those that led to the Stolen Generations, policies and beliefs that have not only affected them, but continue to affect their children and grandchildren,” she said.

Hearings had been delayed due to Covid-19 lockdowns last year, but the commission released its report as planned in July. Originally the commission planned to hand down it’s final recommendations in 2024 to support the state’s treaty process, but the commission has asked for a two-year extension.

The Letters Patent should be extended to 2026 because establishing the country’s first truth-telling commission is “highly complex” Ms Bourke said.

“Yoorrook’s mandate spans more than two hundred years of historic and ongoing injustices. Time is needed to ensure the best process, right for community, so that we can create a more complete public record for all,” she said.

The report categorised findings from yarning circles into 11 themes including dispossession, political exclusion and economic marginalisation.

It was reported that elders told Commissioners settlers colonised through violent invasion and wars to seize land and they continue to “colonise today through various forms of dispossession and violence”.

An elder, Uncle Johnny Lovett told the commission: “I believe that in Victoria, the government truly wanted to wipe out the Aboriginal people to the point where there would be no knowledge of them.”

“The Victorian government were so intent on dispersing Aboriginal people, and when they used the word dispersing, it also meant killing and massacring them,” he said.

The commission is also investigating the ongoing repercussions from the stolen generation.

“Elders told the Commissioners that the welfare of their families and communities is their priority. Specifically, Elders strongly asked Yoorrook to stop the government taking children from their families,” the report read.

“Some yarning circle participants also spoke of being descendants of child survivors of massacres. They described that across the state, settlers used massacres as part of invasion and occupation, and they often kept one or two young boys alive and ‘adopted’ them into the settler families.”

When said to the Tutor that there is no such thing as ‘Perfect Competition’ I got a blank look from the Tutor.

A model can be extremely useful despite being false. The model that says the earth is (substantially) flat and the sky is a big bowl which slowly turns is surely false, but it’s quite useful for planning a hike or a picnic.

The question with perfect competition is how much difference do the imperfections make. This depends on what you want to use the model for.

Credit to you for seeing the issue, discredit to your tutor for not having thought about it.

French-Australian relations in ‘new arena’

Ambassador Jean-Pierre Thebault describes the relationship under Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as “a complete new arena of cooperation between France and Australia”.

He welcomed Australia’s pledge to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 43 per cent on 2005 levels by 2030.

“Let’s be frank, with the previous commitment of Australia it was highly unlikely that the European Union would ever have given the green light to a free trade agreement,” the diplomat told ABC radio on Monday.

“Now this is back on the table and the fact that Australia has strongly committed on this issue is a game changer.”

So, swirling down the pan together.
Technical note: Handing M. Micron a big bucket of used Euros to give to his Compagnie des Sous-mariniers helped too.

Not sure about that. It takes a fair few compressor stations to get the LNG to Perth from the Pilbara. Water is heavy and not particularly valuable.
