Dying rich and anonymous would be preferable to dying rich and famous.
Every day of the week.

It’s the “power” thing that fucks them up. Every. Single. Time.

Fame and fortune rarely collide. When it does, it generally results in arsehattery.

Hollywood (entertainment) and Politics are a perfect match.

Same skill set, but very few people in this world can actually do both. I’d probably include “Sports Stars” in that category. Very few can actually make that transition. It’s a bit weird when you think about it.

The very few notable exceptions are Reagan and Trump (to a small extent, actor wise). I can only conclude that “name recognition” and “brains/organisation” helped them along.

As far as the rest of the politicians go, it seems to boil down to “like ability”, and getting your face on the news.

Oh wait……now I get it.

Up early and this article from Daily Mail caught my attention.

Salman Rushdie is in surgery after being stabbed 10 to 15 times – including once in the neck – on stage at NY literary fair: Airlifted to hospital 33 years after Iran issued fatwah on him for novel The Satanic Verses
Salman Rushdie, 75, has been airlifted to hospital after being stabbed up to 15 times, including once in the neck
He was attacked by a man who rushed the stage before ‘punching and stabbing’ the author multiple times in front of horrified witnesses at a literary fair in Chautauqua, New York, near Buffalo
Those attending the event quickly pinned down his attacker, with New York State Police confirming a man had been arrested
Blood spatter can be seen on the stage and chair close to where the the author had been intending to give his speech
His agent has confirmed that he is currently in surgery for his injuries, though wasn’t able to give an update on his condition
Rushdie wrote the Satanic Verses, which resulted in a culture war being sparked in 1988 in Britain, and he was issued a fatwa by Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini in February 1989.

Washington Post reports that the FBI found the Ark of the Covenant in Trump’s basement.

Why would Trump personally sell nuclear secrets? Everyone knows if you’re going to cash in on international energy deals, you send your son who has zero energy experience and is a terrible painter to do that.

After days of silence, Merrick Garland he says ordered the Code Red and lectures us on distrust of the FBI. Five minutes later, we get leaks to the NYT about the contents of the warrant.

Winston just mentioned ‘Lying Flat’, there’s also ‘The Great Resignation’ and other phrases for the loss of the desire to work. I called it ‘The Great Malaise’. All around the world the desire to work and achieve seems to disappearing, from high school kids not wanting part time work to those who were once hard working, ladder climbing star employees.

It’s real and it’s a big problem. It seems to afflict mainly western societies and industrial Asian societies. I don’t know about the Asian side of it but in the west I believe that the last twenty years of no longer employing or promoting on the basis of excellence or the best person for the job is responsible. In the schools the kids have been constantly told how bad western society is and that white people are responsible for all the ills of the world and that every other culture is superior to western culture.

In places of employment both private and public, hard work, intelligence, ability and talent now are no longer considered essential or even desirable. Instead your sex, race, colour, beliefs and what you say are the primary factors in selection and promotion. It truly doesn’t matter how good you are, how hard you work, none of it matters, it’s all about the ‘Current Thing’ and whether you meet that criteria. So the bulk of the people are just giving up, they get what jobs they can, do the minimum and go home. It’s why so many or our institutions are hopeless, why much of our economy and industries are second rate. Our pursuit of the current thing does more damage to ordinary people everyday and both sides of politics are happy to go along with it.

Our elites have abandoned excellence and ability and have promoted sub standard people into positions of power and those sub standard morons continue the process. I have no idea of how this can be fixed.

The private sector are the only ones paying tax. Everyone else is subsidising the amount they have to pay. What is the total tax, levies, fees and charges we pay in the dollar, 45 cents? Whatever you do to avoid paying tax is ok by me. The public sector have no controls on how much they charge for doing nothing. Most are parasites. Most of the APS could be sacked tomorrow with no consequences to the rest of us. The more you do for yourself the less tax you pay. Tax is the biggest input cost of anything you buy. The world is getting weirder.

Grandad left with huge bill as influencers take selfies on doorstep (12 Aug)

AN ELDERLY resident has been left with a huge bill after influencers flocked to the front door of his West London home for photo shoots.

Retired fashion designer Peter Lee says he has models turn up on his doorstep every day to take pictures of his bright pink home in Kensington Place. Whilst he doesn’t mind that people take photos outside his house, he does mind the damage caused to his tiles and railings in the process. He claims that replacing them in the correct style could cost him hundreds of pounds.

Since January Peter has filmed several influencers posing on his property and he has even spotted models using tents to change outfits so they can get the perfect shot outside of Notting Hill’s beautiful, colourful homes. Footage from Peter’s Ring doorbell shows influencers in various outfits posing dramatically, with one model throwing her legs in the air to try and get the perfect shot.

On one occasion Peter even found a bag full of clothes dumped on his doorstep from a photoshoot – he gave them to his granddaughter as a present. In the five minutes the Local Democracy Reporting Service spent standing outside Peter’s home, four people stopped to take pictures by his front door.

Most people have problems with rats and cockroaches, not influencers. Although there’s a similarity I suppose. He should put his house on the market, it might get a good price.

That is because hot air rises and if you look at a map you can plainly see the Arctic is at the top.

Sometimes the scientific illiteracy on this site beggars the most extreme pessimism.

Calli – re your gardening efforts:

Yep – sun out yesterday (not today) & after returning from a nerve racking visit to computer guru in local town (hate computer issues) I tackled the annual pruning of house garden shrubs. Got the Gator out to provide a platform (by way of the tray) to stand high enough to trim with the (very damn heavy) battery clippers. Had to concentrate in climbing up as conscious that advancing years are hazardous. Managed to do half of trees/shrub needing a trim & hope husband will do the rest if drizzle eases today.

We have bought a terrific cultivator gadget that rips up the weeds in the vege garden. These things are expensive but relieve the amount of hard work. We are keen to get the garden producing in these uncertain times. Meanwhile the hens are the hardest working operatives on the farm. We reward them by allowing them free range ( & kitchen treats) when we are at the farm & they keep up a relentless supply of eggs for us, family & neighbours who don’t have hens.

The joy of this place relieves the despair I have for our current society and the world in general.

Under Xi , China is pretty much a fascist regime. It’s not communist in the real sense. The ironic thing is that we saw, over the space of 25 plus years, a communist regime seamlessly converting from communist to fascist . Meanwhile the Western left is willfully blind to this move from one totalitarian room to another in the same house.

One day we’ll find out what Sandy Berger stole on behalf of the Clintons.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2018/06/10/crisis_at_the_national_archives_137241.html

And marginalia may be the key to solving the puzzle of just what the late Sandy Berger, acting as former President Bill Clinton’s representative, was destroying during his 2005 trips into the National Archives, where he stuffed papers into his clothing. Berger only got away with this twice before archive personnel kept tabs on him, but the first trips involved as yet uncatalogued material so no one really knows what he took. But there seemed to be copies in the archive of everything they caught him with. And archival libraries dependent upon physical papers are vulnerable.

All to support the Public Sector lifestyle.

I have wondered, given the bullshit definition on employed, what proportion of the Aussie population actually are genuinely employed in a role that might be livable.
Take out everyone who works less than 30 hours a week, everyone who works for government at any level. Whatever’s left is the ones supporting pretty much everything, because I don’t think mining royalties cover that much. I’d doubt it’s more than 40% of the population.
The new job I’ve got is about a 40% bump in hourly pay over the last one, but I don’t see anything like that after tax. Then once you think about excise, GST, etc. etc. it gets a bit aggravating.

China returning to the ways of old communism shows a power struggle. For the last 20 years China has been eating our lunch and would have continued to do so. The Chinese Bat Virus has put the brakes on economic prosperity hence the return to the old ways of belligerence. This is a simplistic view but as in most things, simple is the beginnings of complex, leading to chaos. The more people involved the more complex things become but doesn’t make the premise more complex.

China returning to the ways of old communism shows a power struggle.

I doubt very much Xi is threatened. China at present has some serious economic issues it’s dealing with internally and not just covid related. But altogether, large portions of the populace are feeling pretty disgruntled. That’s got the CCP quite worried. China has also spent heavily the last decade or so on massive military upgrading and expansions. Along with that comes the bombast and chest beating – ” we’ll show them”. Along comes Pelosi to Taiwan and blows all that out the window so Xi puts on a big show of bluff and bluster.

What we are witnessing is plain old deception. The external “crisis” rallies patriotic sensitivities , which the CCP needs while they wade through these internal issues. All theatre, as if Pelosi (whose family for decades has deep China ties) was asked and agreed to accommodate the “crisis” narrative.

China isn’t returning to communism, the lefties who have some smarts know that true communism won’t work, What they’ve have worked out is that fascism works very well, very close to communism but the state and big business work together to keep the population under control and allow no opposition. Funny sounds like the US under the Democrats and both sides of politics here.

Communism will always eventually collapse, a planned economy and state ownership of everything just can’t sustain itself in the long term. Fascist systems can, they may stagnate but there isn’t an obvious way to collapse the system short of tumbrils and guillotines. That will probably be the way they end and it isn’t good for anyone. The only way I can see out of the mess is for the US (and us) to split into separate nations, One side can pursue their social justice schemes and fascism and the other needs to be a bullet proof nation of freedom and responsibility.

Mar-a-Lago Search Warrant Unsealed, The Most Urgent, Critical, National Security Issue in the History of All Time, had 14 Days to Execute

August 12, 2022 – Sundance

…. and the DOJ/FBI had already reviewed the documents in June 2022.

I think we already know what documents the FBI and DOJ were on a mission to retrieve, and they had nothing to do with nuclear secrets {GO DEEP}. Try to avoid the shiny things, the pushed narrative, and keep the full context of the last SEVEN YEARS of DC targeting operations as the primary intellectual filter.

Donald Trump held evidence of a politically weaponized U.S. intelligence and justice system. To include an extensive paper trail showing how the DC apparatus under the Obama-era intelligence system, Dept of Homeland Security, Office of the Director of National Security, Dept of Justice and FBI coordinated with the Hillary Clinton campaign to install her into office {Go Deep}. THAT is the top-secret classified intelligence that must NEVER reach sunlight.

If the content of the documents was so urgent, so vital to national security, so critical to safeguard “nuclear weapon information” from potential exposure…. Then why did the warrant have a 14-day window to execute? That narrative is a hoax, a cover story intended to justify the DOJ and FBI throwing a bag over the documentary evidence that shows the same DOJ and FBI wrongdoing.

The DOJ-NSD warrant, and the subsequent raid on Mar-a-Lago can only be related to records the U.S. government deems “classified” and material vital to national security interests. Hence, DOJ National Security Division involvement.

In prior outlines we have exhaustively covered the details of President Trump’s desire to publicly release information about DOJ and FBI conduct in their targeting of him during the fabricated Trump-Russia claims.

To understand the nature of the content of the boxes, first review the declassification memo provided by President Trump to the DOJ upon his departure from office.

The risk to the fabric of the U.S. government is why we see lawyers and pundits so confused as they try to figure out the disproportionate response from the DOJ and FBI, toward “simple records”, held by President Trump in Mar-a-Lago. Very few people can comprehend what has been done since January 2009, and the current state of corruption as it now exists amid all of the agencies and institutions of government.

Barack Obama spent 8 years building out and refining the political surveillance state. The operators of the institutions have spent the last six years hiding the construct.

President Donald Trump declassified the material then took evidence to Mar-a-Lago. The people currently in charge of managing the corrupt system, like Merrick Garland, Lisa Monaco, Chris Wray and the Senate allies, are going bananas. From their DC perspective, Donald Trump is an existential threat.

Given the nature of their opposition, and the underlying motives for their conduct, there is almost nothing they will not do to protect themselves. However, if you peel away all the layers of lies, manipulations and corruption, what you find at the heart of their conduct is fear.

What do they fear most?…

as someone whose assets are currently in cash, any suggestions about what to do?

Not as such. The stock market has plummeted, so you could risk buying low and hoping it picks up again at some point soon, but you’re stuck with the shares for at least a year if you don’t want any capital gain taxed at 50%. The lowest risk would be to plonk it in some sort of term deposit that pays something other than a negative interest rate, although you’d still be going backwards given inflation – and if you earn over a certain amount in interest that would be taxed.

Mr Rushdie has fallen into the trap of hanging around writers for too long.

Correct.

If you are a writer, you know that 90%+ of all writers are leftards, 9% are closet leftards and the other 1% is a statistical error.

Apart from being a magnet for leftards, writers festivals are a magnet for the left’s useful idiots, like muslims, and the human garbage that imagines the headlines if he makes a spectacle of himself attacking an enemy of the left.

Because he has survived decades of a muslim fatwa, Rushdie has forgotten that 99% of the people at writers festivals want to kill him. And so some simpleton with a grudge weaponised by his religion comes after him with a knife.

As he lies in that NYC ICU, it’s cold comfort to Rushdie that thousands of people could have told him his life was always in danger and that he should never venture into a festival of his enemies.

Energy prices are rising, not only heating oil, natural gas and petrol are becoming more expensive, but also firewood. Now, firewood thefts are becoming more frequent in state forest enterprises. Several state-managed forest enterprises have registered an increase in wood thefts in recent months. The wood thieves are even taking whole logs out of the forests with trucks. Defund The FBI!

I & I Editorial Board August 12, 2022

No, that headline’s not a joke. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, once so popular it had its own TV show solely dedicated to its heroics, has become a hyper-politicized, jackbooted bully that no longer serves the American people or the U.S. Constitution, which its employees are sworn to protect. It has become, instead, the intelligence arm and domestic enforcer of the far left.

Did we say defund? Yes. But we don’t mean simply to cut its funding, as leftists have disastrously proposed for police forces across the country. We mean tear down the entire rotting edifice of the FBI and replacing it with a new agency that respects the Constitution and holds itself accountable to all Americans, not just the woke far left.

The raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound may be the breaking point, but it’s only the latest FBI outrage. In recent years, under Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray, the Bureau has acted overtly to aid one political party over the other, demonizing those who oppose the Democrats’ “woke,” “progressive” agenda for America.

To be sure, this has been going on for some time now, starting with the FBI’s feeble investigation of Hillary Clinton’s home-based server, which intelligence sources say was almost certainly hacked by the Russians, the Chinese, or both. It was a clear violation of the law, exposing America’s secrets to our worst enemies.

And the FBI did nothing.

The FBI was also improperly involved in the 2016 presidential election, allowing itself to be used by the Democratic National Committee, the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democrat law firm Perkins Coie to launch a spying operation against Trump and his campaign.

The FBI initially denied any impropriety, naturally, but in fact sat up a “secure work environment” at Perkins Coie offices to coordinate its investigation with its Democrat allies.

At one point, in April 2016, FBI counterintelligence chief Peter Strzok brazenly told colleague (and lover) Lisa Page, “we’ll stop” Trump’s election. He subsequently launched “Crossfire Hurricane,” the investigation intended to sink Trump’s presidential hopes. Strzok called it the FBI’s “insurance policy.“

Or, as historian Victor Davis Hansen recently noted, “The FBI is beyond redemption.”

The latest fill-in for Tucker Carlson on Tucker Carlson Tonight is former Democrat presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard

I read that as Lachlan and Paul Ryan softening up the punters for a more palatable (to them) alternative to that nasty terrible man Tucker.

She’ll never be President. No centrist can be elected these days and she’s centre-left anyway. And that’s even assuming there’ll be elections, which increasingly isn’t looking likely.

Hat tip to Posobiec

Item 7 hand written note will be the Permissive Action Link generating algorithm he copied onto the back of the Declaration of Independence with a Sharpie.
It’s the secret nuclear weapon secret that’ll get him shot and hung at Leavenworth.

Why would Trump personally sell nuclear secrets?
He wouldn’t, of course but it fits the demon-rats narrative .. The Don (all hail!) is, probably, the most patriotic pollie in the US of A so, personally, profiting from the country’s secrets is a definite NO, NO!

The US has buckleys and bugger-all of sorting itself out.

I disagree (politely!).

There’s already a sorting going on via internal migration.

And it’s going to accelerate as things get worse in the blue states.

Another Huge Red Flag in the Trump Raid Story

When he spoke to the media on Thursday, Attorney General Merrick Garland took offense to those who questioned the professionalism and integrity of the Department of Justice and the FBI.

Well, Mr. Attorney General, if they’re so professional and full of integrity, can you explain why the Wall Street Journal apparently knows the contents of all the classified documents and supposedly “top secret” documents removed from Trump’s home and has apparently reviewed some of them?

Gee, if these documents were so incredibly sensitive and secret that the FBI had to conduct an armed raid of Trump’s home in order to retrieve them, how come the press is allowed to know the nature of the documents? These documents are apparently too sensitive for Trump to possess but not so sensitive that FBI agents can’t show them off to the media.

Here’s the context to my comment:

Fox boss Lachlan Murdoch privately levels harsh criticism against Trump, sources say (CNN, 10 Aug)

In private this year, the Fox Corp. chief executive has freely criticized Trump, saying that he disagrees with much of the way the former President behaves, sources tell me. Murdoch has gone so far as to tell people that he believes if Trump were to run again, it would be bad for the country, I’m told.

But, the sources added, Murdoch has also noted that the Fox News audience continues to support Trump. Which is to say that Murdoch knows that supporting Trump is good for business — and, more importantly, he knows that pillorying him is bad for business because it would alienate the channel’s core audience.

This is notable. Patriarch Rupert Murdoch’s low opinion of Trump has been endlessly covered. But, until now, the younger Murdoch’s opinion has been somewhat of a mystery.

Might be a mystery to a CNN kiddie, but it never has been to me. Lachlan and James are wet as oceans (James is worst). And Paul Ryan is notorious. When it came out a couple weeks ago that Fox is banned from having Trump on I assumed it was due to these guys, although it was reported to be a Rupert Murdoch decision.

Just look at how the prog-left is attacking them; e.g. the 1619 Project in the US & “Invasion Day” here.

Companies that generate income with very low capital input.

Solid dividends outside i/o world.

Energy stocks – soon, not quite yet.

14 Things The FBI Found In Donald Trump’s Safe

The FBI raided former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home and found incriminating evidence that he was once President of the United States of America! While they were there they spent over four hours cracking open a solid gold safe.

Here’s what they found:

1. Thousands of McDonald’s receipts: Immaculate record keeping!
2. Three pallets of Norvell Premium Sunless Tanning Solution, Dark 1: Only the best for our President!
3. World’s best president mug: The mug has been detained for questioning.
4. Barron’s Xbox controller because he’s grounded from Xbox: This is a relief. We thought he was ghosting us on Xbox Live.
5. The kickstand for Biden’s bike: Sneaky!
6. Obama’s actual birth certificate: Everyone was wrong. He was born in Zap, ND. Weird.
7. A note that reads “You FBI guys are low IQ. Sad! Not good!”: This was found in a safe within a safe.
8. Free verse, reflective poems: So sensitive!
9. Several dozen copies of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York: Probably the inspiration for all the booby traps federal agents had to evade.
10. The actual nuclear codes and not the fake ones he slipped to Biden: Wait a minute, wouldn’t the real president have the nuclear codes?
11. Little tiny shampoos which were stolen from the White House bathroom: Ladies and gentlemen, we got him!
12. Over a million unsent tweets: Carefully recorded and cataloged on papyrus scrolls.
13. A signed agreement between Trump and Pence that he would not “mean tweet” Pence: Appears to be scrawled in crayon on a KFC napkin.
15. The Mirror of Erised: When he looks into it he sees world peace.

I reckon Bluey is right, if I think about most adults I know, including my customers then maybe 30% are employed in private business or self employed. The rest are on pensions, welfare or work in gov or semi government. I guess the resources industries are paying a lot of tax. If we lose them then the tax burden will fall heavily on the 30%, game over.

If I had the time and knew where to look digging into the ABS stats it’s would probably yield the answer. Government probably knows, just shit scared of anyone else finding out.

As with all public records finding the data that hasn’t been tampered with is next to impossible. The series have been manipulated all the way through to reflect the desired outcome. Without the raw data anything else is meaningless. I tried to do a 20 year simple analysis of Total Tax Receipts and where they originated from so I could isolate private from public. No data that hadn’t had the methodology changed. I don’t have the ability to recreate the previous series to reflect the changes. I know the National Archives will have it but I really do have more interesting things to do.

Greg Gutfeld: FBI’s seizure of classified records from Mar-a-Lago sounds like every hoax we’ve heard before

Gregg Gutfeld called the FBI’s affidavit a ‘gaffe-davit’ as the Trump raid search warrant was unsealed

GREG GUTFELD: If he actually went home with extremely sensitive material, and now he won’t give them back, why do you think he would do that? Do you think he’s planning on selling these secrets to Russia or is he going to build his own missile in Bedminster? He already has the bunkers (it’s a golf course joke). But this doesn’t sound at all hysterical, does it? This is not an affidavit. It’s gaffe-davit. I just coined that phrase. You can’t take anything seriously when it sounds like every hoax that has come before it.

So to your point, Dan, this is going to be about process. It’s going to be the most boring thing ever. A he said-she said about paperwork. The dullest violation you will ever, it’s another process crime. Wonderful, an administrative goof. He didn’t follow the process because he thought he was the process and off it goes to court. Meanwhile, all you’re left with is Merrick Garland looking like a depressed owl cartoon and Donald Trump absorbs all that energy, and he decides, “I’m going to run again,” and he’s going to use all that energy to win, or maybe he won’t.

All I know is the guy that’s coming out on top right now is him, because this just looks hilarious.

Regarding above ,before I found this piece, my general thoughts were well into this direction. But I wanted to distill all that into actionable measures.

It might be helpful for those considering a rising or higher interest rate world ahead. 40 years of down trending IR’s had to end at some point and I happen to think we have reached that turning point. Time will tell!

Certain commodities (strategic metals , REE and miners thereof). Very wary of i/o at present but very interested later.

Don’t.

REE aren’t rare. There’s a huge amount of them around. The problem is not the mines it’s the processing. Think “chemistry set on steroids”. They make any other metal look like kindergarten stuff.

That’s why China has a lock on REE. They have lots of cheap chemical engineers to look after the process (eg. the 120 separate and different solvent extraction stages). Furthermore REE hang around with radioactive elements and they aren’t usually able to be preconcentrated like copper, zinc and lead.

The same goes for lithium. Do not invest in lithium miners. If you do you will be captive to Chinese metals policy, because processing of the lithium available in Australia is energy intensive and produces a humungous amount of acidic or alkaline waste. Roughly ten to thirty times more than red mud from the aluminium industry, and the spodumene has to be heated in a kiln to about 1500 C for processing…using coal or gas. Hence China will have a lock on lithium as well as REE.

After them there ain’t many “strategic metals” other than copper, and as we know BHP has just lobbed a big takeover offer at Oz Minerals. So you’re back to BHP, who do at least pay decent dividends even if woke.

My 2c.
