I wonder if old Phil was still around that he would have put up with Andy and Harry being stripped of their rightful wearing of military uniforms.

One suspects that had they asked to wear the uniforms they actually earned rather than the honorary ranks granted them as Royals they may have had a case. Had Harry (for instance) asked to wear his Army Captain’s uniform and shaved his beard to meet uniform requirements who knows what might have happened.

Harry earned and served in the rank of Captain in the Royal Army but he was granted the honorary ranks of Captain General Royal Marines, Major in the British Army, Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, and Squadron Leader in the Royal Air Force.

IMO the military organizations where they held honorary titles would have been rightly furious had they been allowed to ‘represent’ them.

Numbers are racist I.

Canadian teacher says 2+2=4 is white supremacy (19 Sep)

The graph Theijsmeijer posted breaks racist math down into two categories, “Overt White Supremacy” which includes using the n-word while doing math. The second is “Covert White Supremacy” which includes “2+2=4,” along with “Assuming math is neutral,” “Standardized testing,” and “Dismissing alternative algorithms.”

Numbers are racist II.

We can predict final school marks in year 11. It’s time to replace stressful exams with more meaningful education (Phys.org, 19 Sep)

Universities and TAFEs are increasingly using other methods—such as interviews or portfolios—to offer places to school leavers. In 2021, more than 25,000 NSW students applied for an early offer through the “schools recommendation scheme,” to lock in a university place before they sit their exams. This is up from 5,447 in 2014, suggesting year 12 exams may not be as necessary as we once thought.

You don’t need to know what 2+2 is so long as you believe in Gaia and Karl Marx.

Zulu, it’s not about facts, never has been.

Years ago, I used to follow and comment at Andrew Montford’s excellent Bishop Hill blog, which focused on the climate scam.

Over and over again. someone would come on with a new piece of scientific evidence proving that it is a scam. I’m talking 10-15 years ago.

Hah! they cried, this will burst their bubble. Well, we all know how that went. I kept trying to explain to the honest but naive scientists that it was not about science, or facts.

Same goes for the Aboriginal stuff. The continual reproduction of factually wrong material is not about genuine debate, it is about feelz.

Political conservatives have not been able to harness ‘feelz’ to their cause, which is a sign of lousy tactics and lack of backbone. There are millions of Australians, including post war migrants and their descendants, who remember the Australia they came to and grew up in. It does not include Lebanese and African gangs, drag queens and trannies as role models, people not being able to see a GP, hospitals with patients queued up in ambulances outside, little kids being taught about weird sex at school, while Paterson and Lawson are nowhere to be seen – I could go on.

BoN, have to agree-ish with your schadenfreude, on general principle of the motive formation of criminal acts being socially taught.
I think the decline of murders and other crimes from 1990 on is most likely attributable to the rise in computer gaming including GTA. Every social forces account I have seen seems to ignore this innovative arena of energetic social competition for young males that took them out of public spaces for large chunks of their free time.
The media and leftists created the school shooters by offering rewards and models which counter this trend.

Ok, not going to Canberra then, but rather Jerrabomberra in NSW. On a bus driven by a formidable lady bus driver who told everyone not to use their mobile phone on speaker before we left.

Just as well we got out of Sydney. It is becoming a city of cokeheads:

Barely a day goes by in the courts of Sydney’s glitzy eastern suburbs where a professional and otherwise law-abiding citizen is not reprimanded for dealing or dabbling in cocaine.
And new statistics confirm what magistrates have repeatedly remarked upon – the issue is only worsening.

According to the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOSCAR), incidents of both cocaine dealing or trafficking in the local government area (LGA) of Waverley rose 45 per cent in the six months to June 2022.

In the same period, cocaine possession charges there grew 20 per cent.

Over the past five years, cocaine dealing in the area, which takes in Bondi and its surrounds, has risen by a steady 20 per cent.

Increasing cocaine offences in Waverley stands in contrast to its nearby LGAs of Woollahra and Randwick, where cocaine dealing offences mostly flatlined in the six months to June.

Cocaine possession crept up slightly in the former and dropped by 16 per cent in the latter.

The variation in figures among close suburbs was interesting to Associate Professor of Criminology at the University of Newcastle, Dr Xanthé Mallett.

She suspected it was a combination of targeted policing and a higher demand among Waverley’s suburbs.

As for the notable spike in the past six months, Dr Mallet said drug dealing was returning to its pre-Covid levels.

“I think it’ll be a surprise to people how many people are using cocaine in those suburbs in Sydney,” she said.

“You’ve got to remember, as well, that coke is very expensive. All of it is imported. And wealthy suburbs are really the ones that can support these habits”.

“These rich individuals are looking for ways to kind of relax and have fun. Certainly, I’m not advocating for it, but it is such an expensive drug, so it’s natural to get this spike in the communities where it can be afforded”.

Dr Mallet said driving down cocaine use in these suburbs was difficult while many people busted for possession were getting more lenient sentences than users of other drugs, such as ice.

“It’s so embedded in the culture of these suburbs and then there’s not really any negative consequences of getting caught a lot of the time,” she said.

In an Australian-first, the ACT government recently announced it will decriminalise the possession of small amounts of illicit drugs, including cocaine. It will issue fines instead of criminal charges, claiming current laws do not work.

Asked if NSW should follow suit, Dr Mallet said she was not sure that was the answer.

“You want to break down the supply networks, but equally, if somebody is caught with an illicit substance, there’s disincentive if they know they’re not going to receive a conviction,” she said. “Also, the demand is so high that as soon as you interrupt one network, another will fill its place.”

Four guys meet in hell. A Bodybuilder, a Muslim, a Buddhist monk, and an Australian.

Satan comes over, whip in hand, and says “Those who endure 10 whiplashes can go to Heaven, the rest will stay here in Hell!”

The Australian glances at the bodybuilder and is about to argue when Satan interrupts him “Everyone can choose 1 thing to place at your back and protect you from the whiplashes. Let’s start”.

The bodybuilder steps up, with full conviction, he chooses a large and heavy metal shield to protect his back. Then, Satan starts with the whiplashes…

1… 2… and the shield breaks apart. The 3rd never came!

The bodybuilder screamed “Please NO, I give up!”

The Muslim steps forward this time. With a smug face, he asks for the physical manifestation of his faith to protect his back. He had done lots of terrible things, but it was all in the name of faith and it would protect him now.

1… 2… 3… and his faith began to waver… 4… 5… 6… and the sound of something breaking could be heard.

Before there was a 7th, he cries out pathetically “Stop, stop, stop. Please stop!!”

Here comes the Buddhist monks turn. He asks for no protection, for pain is in the mind, he will hide behind nothing, and his body would endure any torment!

1… 2… 3… and he grits his teeth… 4… 5… 6… tears could be seen in his eyes… 7… 8… 9… 10…

There is snot coming out of his nose and his back is badly mutilated. But he made it.

Now it’s the Australian’s turn. He is asked, by Satan, what does he choose to protect his back. The Australian ponders for a little while, and then calmly says “The monk”.

Tim.

As I said, I lost the post last night dealing with Uncle Fester torturing the snowfall chart. This will be brief.

Fester put up a chart indicating snowfall for particular regions going back to 1970, but (conveniently) used the final 25 years. He suggested to Fatboy that there had been no change in snow pattern over that period. Here’s the problem, which I believe is a dishonest misuse of the chart. Fester reckoned that for last 25 years of the 50 year chart, snowfall had flat-lined. It most certainly had flat-lined at the lower end of the of the chart scale. It flat-lined well below first 25 year drop and appears to have remained that way. To ignore that is either willfully dishonest or just simply stupid. You can ask Fester which option he’d accept as a characterization of this new abortion of his. He’s Titius’ed 3.10 me so he won’t answer.

This is like owning a stock for 10 years. In the first 5 years the stock averages 100 bucks a share and then in the remaining 5 years it averages 50 bucks. Using Fester’s logic the stockholder should be happy the stock has only flat-lined in the past 5 years. The Fuck!

This used to be a sitecthat discussed economics and finance as well as other stuff. Off point for most of you, but I was talking to a friend about Hecs. I have no children currently in university, but in the conversation it occurred to us that overall hecs debts are going to go up by a rate of inflation higher than interest rates. If inflation continues each quarter then hec debts will compound higher than current interest rates. Originally the scheme cushioned debtors against the real world by only charging inflation which is normally less than interest rates. Just wondering if those in academia have any thoughts. I might have this wrong.

The analogy doesn’t work JC. BoN was never claiming that snow cover had never fallen (analogous to claiming that the stock price now is satisfactory to what it was at purchase), he was only saying that it hasn’t declined for the last 25 years (analogous to saying that the stock price hasn’t changed in X period).
BoN was never trying to make a point about what happened in the past, his point is about what’s happening now.
Things change. What was happening in the 1970’s isn’t necessarily what’s happening now. The question is how much data do we need to be able to tell that we’re in a changed situation.
As an analogy, when Mark Waugh was dropped from the Australian test team, his batting average was a very healthy 41.81. But he’d averaged only about 20 in his last two series. The selectors felt that two series was enough to make the call that things had changed from his heyday. Should they have kept him in? If so, for how long?
If BoN’s chart had been for 125 years, and had a drastic fall in the first 25 years and then 100 years of flatlining, would you deny that there was now a trend of flatlining?
What about 75 years with 50 years of flatlining?
Conversely if it had been a chart for 30 years with the last 5 years being flatlining I wouldn’t (and I expect BoN wouldn’t) claim that there is now a trend of flatlining.
The only question is whether 25 years is long enough to raise a serious argument that things have changed since the period of falling that occurred from the early 1970’s to the late 1990’s.
Climate alarmists used to assert that 15 or 17 years was long enough for a trend, and the IPCC has now walked that back to a claim of 30 years. 25 years doesn’t prima facie seem unreasonable unless there are grounds for saying that all those prior and current estimates are badly wrong.
If you’ve got proper scientific or statistical grounds for saying that 25 years isn’t long enough, feel free to raise them.
But if you haven’t, then even if you somehow feel that 25 years isn’t enough, you’re at liberty to disagree with BoN but that’s hardly grounds for launching into a trade of insults against him just because he’s implicitly asserted that 25 years is long enough.

There was a marked decline for the first 25 years of his chart and subsequently leveling off in the proceeding 25 years. That’s what we’re referring to so please stay on topic. Anyone who got the clot shots pretty much fell for government propaganda

No.

Many knew there were risks but, like grown ups, weighed the risks to make decisions.

In my case I only got the shots when my brother, who is mentally disabled and in decline after the recent passing of our mother, had to be moved to care. I considered that to be able to visit him and try to what extent I might to ease his transition to his new situation that I was prepared to risk the vaccine.

There was no secret battalion of freedom fighters with names like L’araignee and La Dague ready to whisk him away to an undisclosed location where his medical and psychological needs would be met, no ninjas wrapped in shadow dripping poisons down along a thread from the ceiling to poison evil men in their sleep then vanishing in the time it takes for light to leave a candle and reach the wall, and not even a crumpled old gumshoe peering through windows with his vintage polaroid waiting to snap compromising pictures of villainous officials and their steamy mistresses.

It was from first to last an individual decision. I asked no one to make the decision for me or to endorse it. I told no one what they had to do, but happily told them what I decided and why. It was lesson, but I set no tests. Because like me they would have to live with their decision too.

And there would have been absolutely no point in standing on a hill with an upturned saucepan on my head, waving the flag on one hand and spinning like a drunk compass needle at a magnet convention pointing at people and screeching “Traitor!”, “Communist!”, “Lackey of the tyrannical regime!”

There are people who think the only battle that could be fought was the one where you refused to get the shots and to hell with everything else in your and yours’ life. How did that work out? And if they think that it would have worked if everybody had done it reminds me of the peculiar psephological fixation poor old Faulty had. If you imagine having the power to make everyone follow your plan when voting then why require they do the complicated one? Why not just get them to vote for the people you wanted in?

The tin pot demagogues, steeped in their own overblown rhetoric remained oblivious to how ridiculous they appeared. Their time has gone and they are reduced to playing crackling old records or their speeches – all that is left of their glory days.

No. The battle to be had is to make sure politicians and bureaucrats learn they best not try that again. We collect information, we expose the abuses of authority, and we remind people.

Oh, and calling people leftists because they did not cleave to your doctrine like brown on shit is frankly retarded. Unconditional obedience to orthodoxy is the leftist default. Calling other people lefties does not make you any less totalitarian.

Dribbler Sheridan actually has a good piece in today’s Oz about how he, despite being a republican at heart, would never vote for a republic….

“”I’ve been a republican all my life and voted Yes in the 1999 referendum. I am still a theoretical republican but now find myself in that paradoxical category: republicans for a constitutional monarchy. I would vote No to any republican referendum now. It’s inconceivable, in this time of peak woke madness, that any change to the Constitution could produce something as stable and good as we have now. My monarchism is entirely pragmatic.“”

Well said Greg Sheridan, I don’t often praise your pieces. I think Sheridan speaks for many of us. I too voted “yes” in 1999. As for any future referendum, I’ll be voting NO. Why? Well, there are probably a few reasons why I’ll be voting NO but as Sheridan writes, we live in a time of “peak woke madness” and I would add that we live in a time when we are now lorded over by an entitled coterie of sneering scum who like to dictate to us, lecture us, insult us, ridicule us, and smear us. You all, of course, must know the scum I’m referring to, the sneering and patronising scum that infest our political parties, the scum that infest their ABC, names such as Virginia Trioli, Laura Shingles, Wendy Harmer and then there’s all the rest…the scum that infest Nine Media, The Malcolm Guardian, Channel Ten, social media sewers and the two resident rodents of Mosman, aka the King and Queen of hypocrisy, Pirate Man and his grotesque cane toad wife.

Given the dignity, history and majesty we have witnessed over the last ten days, culminating in the funeral service last night, I’ll take the monarchy any day. They do less damage to us that the aforementioned scum and they provide us with magnificent pomp and pageantry.

No, your analogy is totally bogus in this context. You’ve failed to explain why a comment about a specific period of time is somehow an invalid comment about that period of time just because it doesn’t relate to an earlier period of time.

And BoN’s assertion isn’t “misleading” unless there’s sound scientific or statistical grounds for saying that 25 years is too short a time to establish a trend.
And once again you’ve failed to provide any such grounds.
I’ll ask again:
If BoN’s charts had shown 125 years, 25 of decline and then the last 100 of flatlining, would you deny that there’s a flatlining trend?
What about 75, with 25 of decline and then the last 50 of flatlining?
Assuming you’d be prepared to contemplate the possibility that charts like that indicated a likely trend, what are your scientific or statistical grounds for asserting that 25 years is too short to indicate a trend?

Oh. Trust me to be behind the times.

Or….for all you know I am at the Katoomba RSL and cunningly faking a European trip.

And speaking of comparisons, on our way here visited a cave system that put Jenolan in the shade. Absolutely breath-taking in complexity and variety of formations. For the Tolkien fans – there was, at one point, a single lane bridge over a chasm. We passed. But as we did a bevy of schoolchildren raced along a lower pathway, chattering like birds. “Here come the hobbits!”.

I just couldn’t help myself.

No. The battle to be had is to make sure politicians and bureaucrats learn they best not try that again. We collect information, we expose the abuses of authority, and we remind people.

Very well said.

The Public Health Acts need to be repealed, as do the recent changes to anti discrimination laws.

Very interesting study I came across from before the vaccine was launched. Basically they were deciding which Propaganda/manipulation they were going to push on the public to convince them into taking the vaxx. See how many you recognise. Its all planned.

Slackstar, I also came across info some time ago regarding consultation in UK with psychologists on best way to induce people to accept the vaccines. It certainly was all planned. Governments had decided on the primary attack on the virus via vaccines, they were outfoxed by Big Pharma into agreeing by contract to bar all possible treatments, and the rest is history.

What I find most disturbing is the complete surrender by Australians to the government line. All evidence suggests that we were the most naive, stupid, compliant – whatever you like to call it – than any other nation. Australians are still wearing those stupid masks, and will probably continue to do so even though the state governments are cancelling the mandate in public transport. Good grief – what do they think about the millions of Britons in public spaces around Her Majesty’s funeral all markless???? They are probably too stupid to have noticed. I did not hear even one TV commentator mention it.

In doing so you fucked your nation.

Yeah right.

It was me.

It wasn’t the media, the joke Liberal Party, Gillard or Swan, anti development greens or power grabbing cops or Attorneys General.

It wasn’t a sustained attack on common law and post WWII civil rights. It wasn’t an ever increasing burden of taxes and regulation.

It was me getting vaccinated against my will after living a very restricted lifestyle under state and Federal law for months on end, then with an ultimatum to get vaccinated or become destitute by a former boss who abused his power.

I am so sorry I blamed everyone else.

No, your analogy is totally bogus in this context.

Sure, all analogies are essentially “bogus” however my analogy was less bogus than yours.

You’ve failed to explain why a comment about a specific period of time is somehow an invalid comment about that period of time just because it doesn’t relate to an earlier period of time.

I explained it four times. Asserting that the last 25 years has flat-lined without offering context in that the preceding 25 showed a drop and there was no recovery after that is 100% misleading.

And BoN’s assertion isn’t “misleading” unless there’s sound scientific or statistical grounds for saying that 25 years is too short a time to establish a trend.

The statistical reason that makes Fester’s 25 year claim misleading is that it flat-lined at the lows without any recovery

And once again you’ve failed to provide any such grounds.

I have and now it’s the 5 times. Merely saying I have not provided the “grounds” doesn’t make it any truer or persuasive as you have continually failed to show why that is the case.

I’ll ask again:
If BoN’s charts had shown 125 years, 25 of decline and then the last 100 of flatlining, would you deny that there’s a flatlining trend?

Depends on the steepness of the decline and one needs to make a judgement call, so yes, it could matter or not. We would need to read the numbers. In the real case, in Fester’s chart , it most certainly matters because the fall in the first 25 years was steep enough to appear material, yet Fester left that part out.

What about 75, with 25 of decline and then the last 50 of flatlining?

Same again.

Assuming you’d be prepared to contemplate the possibility that charts like that indicated a likely trend, what are your scientific or statistical grounds for asserting that 25 years is too short to indicate a trend?

I’m happy to tell you. As we really don’t have a great deal of seriously accurate and comprehensive data then most certainly every year counts especially if the beginning of AGW time is considered to correlate with the Industrial Revolution. So yea, 25 years more does count and it really counts when you have 50 years of info with snowfall declining in the next 25 years without any recovery.

LOL. Musk knows some physics and is a working rocket engineer. Twiggy is merely a fool.
Rocket engineers hate using hydrogen. See the leaks with NASA’s SLS. Nobody is going to build an oxygen/ammonia rocket anytime soon again, either (X-15). If you want to handle hydrogen use a backbone of carbon atoms. Even one makes things a lot easier.

Yes Eyrie; I too think Twiggy’s H2 fixation is all intestinal methane being discharged.
However Twiggy has one thing going for him; he are someone close to him can put a great team together. I was very impressed with FMG ‘breaking things that worked to make them better’ at the big iron ore price crunch time. His aboriginal employee development plan at that time seemed likely to do good, and the financial ‘whackery’is innovative even if irritating.
Hydrogen is bullshit. So what is his game? I think its worth it to him to get the likes and clicks from media and give a glow of green to his main game, mining. A bit of subsidy farming for the renewables and it might even end up either cash positive or only losing OPM.

NT Police waited until morning to inform Kumanjayi Walker’s family he was dead, out of fear of reprisal

An hour ago September 20, 2022

Police waited until the morning after an officer had shot dead an Indigenous man to inform his family due to fears of payback, an inquest has heard.

Constable Zachary Rolfe shot Kumanjayi Walker three times during at botched arrest attempt at Yuendumu just after 7pm on November 9, 2019.

He was taken to the Yuendumu Police Station where officers performed first aid, but he died at 8:36pm. His family was not notified of his death until the next morning.

Sergeant Christopher Hand, who was working at Yuendumu Police Station on the night of the shooting, told the inquest into Walker’s death police did not inform the family he had died because they were worried about payback.

“The concern was that members of the community would seek cultural payback on the police,” he said.

“Not saying that all of the community had that mindset, but we need to be mindful that that is part of their culture, traditional payback, and if there’s a mixture of the anger and tension and some alcohol that has been consumed then sometimes that does get out of hand.”

Sgt Hand said he was aware of instances where disturbances started over a Facebook post.

“This obviously wasn’t a Facebook post, it was an Indigenous man being shot by police,” he said.

Sgt Hand said at 9:05pm he received a call from Eddie Robertson – the grandfather of Walker’s girlfriend Rakeisha Robertson – who was in an agitated state asking if Walker was still alive.

He knew Walker was dead but told Mr Roberston he was still receiving medical treatment.

“That is a critical decision and that could have had implications for how the remainder of the night went,” he said in response to a question about why he hadn’t told the truth.

“Bearing in mind we only had limited resources in the police station. There was concern that once the community knew he had died then our safety was at risk.”

At 12:07am Mr Robertson had a phone conversation with Sergeant Terry Zhang, the forward commander flown in from Alice Springs to managed the critical incident. He told him Walker was still receiving medical treatment to which Mr Robertson replied “thank you”. Walker had died more than three hours earlier.

Counsel assisting the Coroner, Patrick Coleridge, read to the court part of a report filed last week by the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.

The report, titled In Normal Circumstances: Understanding the structural nature of racial violence in the Northern Territory, was prepared by Indigenous academics Professor Chelsea Watego, Dr Amanda Porter, Dr David Singh and others.

“Overall, we find that the death of KW was the result of brutal, structural, racial violence, perpetrated by the Northern Territory Government through its police and health departments,” Mr Coleridge quoted the report as saying.

“One way in which that systemic racism manifested, on the 9th of November was in an over-exaggeration by the Northern Territory police of the level of threat posed to those officers by the community following the shooting.”

Sergeant Hand disagreed with this assessment.

“In my experience working with Indigenous communities particularly in the Central Desert Region there is traditional, cultural payback, and that night that was one of the concerns that I had, that they obviously want answers but some of the young men, and perhaps even the older men, would want to mete out some sort of payback because they were angry and upset as to what has happened,” he said.

“That night, that was a real and present concern for me, given my experience working there and knowing of cultural payback occurring within the community when there’s a homicide of an Indigenous person from another Indigenous person.”

Sergeant Hand also said he found it incredible people were calling for police to no longer carry guns in Indigenous communities.

“Everyone has views about police and how police do things but for any community, whether it’s an Indigenous community or an urban community or a small town in country South Australia,” he said. “To suggest that police shouldn’t be armed with a sidearm I find that incredible, because there are guns in the community … and Yuendumu is the same, there are people with firearms licences and guns that are registered to them in Yuendumu, as there are in urban areas and other country areas.

“So they would expect us to protect the community. That is our job.”

Sgt Hand dismissed a suggestion put by Andrew Boe, counsel for the Walker, Lane and Robertson families, that police might not need to wear a Glock when, for example, taking a statement from someone in their yard.

“(What) if she’s the victim of a serious assault and her husband comes out with a firearm or a knife and we have to protect the victim and the other people in the house and ourselves,” he said.

In March a jury found Constable Rolfe not guilty of Walker’s murder.

The inquest in Alice Springs before Coroner Elisabeth Armitage continues.

For the first couple days yes, you could find it on most news channels. It got a bit boring and dropped off most nets after that, then back up a bit for the actual burial.

Bern,

I’m no expert on the subject but I’d bet that for the next decade renewballs etc will be the only game in town in the energy space and Twiggy is potentially making a decent gamble. Let’s face facts, unless there’s revolution of some sort here, nuclear isn’t going to come on stream in a hurry and we’re closing down coal plants. What do you think?
