I love The Shadows and saw their last concert at the Darling Harbour convention centre. It was extraordinary how they were note perfect which is rare live in concert. Hank Marvin ran an amusing line of patter about their music and all the different guitars that were required to get the right sound.

Hank Marvin is a Geordie his family lived a coupla streets over from mine .. never knew him as he is several years older than me ……. tho I did know Eric Burdon (Animals) …….

Cook Government rejects calls to delay Aboriginal cultural heritage laws, accuses Opposition of scaremongering
Josh Zimmerman
The West Australian
Tue, 13 June 2023 5:27PM

Pleas to delay the “rushed” implementation of updated Aboriginal cultural heritage laws have been met with accusations of “scaremongering” and dog whistling by a defiant Cook Government, with the issue poised to dominate Parliament over the next three weeks.

While the mining sector is largely supportive of the new regime – due to come into effect on July 1 – there has been widespread backlash among farmers and pastoralists in recent weeks.

The angst stems from confusion over the requirements of the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act, which the Opposition has claimed will delay simple tasks like installing fencing or digging a dam on farms and stations across the State.

That argument was rubbished by Premier Roger Cook during a boisterous Question Time on Tuesday, which included interjections from Labor MPs accusing Liberals and Nationals of racism for their advocacy for a six-month pause on the laws.

Mr Cook said the Liberal and National parties had “vehemently opposed” the introduction of Aboriginal land rights by the Burke Government as well as the Native Title Act by the Commonwealth in 1993.

“Every time, like a dog returning to its vomit, these guys come out and trot out these strawman arguments to attempt to distract the members of the community,” Mr Cook said.

“These reforms are not radical. These laws are ready to go. These laws do what we’ve always done since 1972, which is to try to protect Aboriginal heritage in this State.

“The arguments that are made by the farming industry are noted but they are not accurate.

“If anything, that is the industry that is going to be least affected – the least affected – by these new laws.”

Roger, when Hare focussed on psychopaths with the psychopath checklist I thought he thought 10 % of population as coming out of prisons he tackled senior executives . Years since I studied personality disorder but I used to differentiate the psychopaths v sociopaths , sociopaths cleverer and would get others to do their dirty work . Tell me how bad is a narcissistic sociopath and do apples fall far from the tree ?

Why do governments waste so much money on nugatory virtue signalling, or worse, campaigns to divide and undermine our nation’s sovereignty, instead of making sure cancer research of all sorts gets the funding it needs?

Er, no, as for all things, tis better for the free market to determine where money goes (in this case by you chosing which charities get your money), rather than to have ‘top men’ in government make that choice for you.

Brittany Higgins and the disappearing recordings: Bombshell notes reveal political staffer’s reasons for bruise photo date confusion – and why she wiped personal audio
Brittany Higgins rape allegations ‘fake’ bruise photograph explained

A crucial photograph showed an apparent large bruise on her thigh which she said was caused by political staffer Bruce Lehrmann pinning her down as he allegedly raped her in the office of their defence minister boss, Linda Reynolds. In a legally-binding statutory declaration made five days before her explosive interview with Lisa Wilkinson, Ms Higgins said the picture was taken on April 3, 2019, 11 days after the alleged attack on March 23. But digital forensic experts said there was no evidence of it existing on her phone until just a few weeks before the rape allegations went to air in February 2021, almost two years later, and there was no previous mention of it in her text messages. Now newly-published documents have revealed her explanation for why the dates don’t match, after police warned her that deleted files on her phone ‘looks deceitful’.

Hypocrisy of Olympic level heights has abounded in this affair and no doubt there is much room for more. Will the Albanese government, which championed a new era of transparency and honesty at the election, condone what appears to be a clear case of Gallagher, at minimum, misleading parliament?

A rhetorical question. Obviously.

The ALP became so invested in the sheer excitement of a Ministerial Rape Coverup – whipped on by Morrison’s abject performances and engorged by the media reaction – that the whole Albanese ‘A Team’ must have a hand in the pie.

In politics you just don’t run with this sort of heavy, heavy shit as an individual frolic. It will have been workshopped to within an inch of its life.

There is therefore no way that Albanese can allow one of the Strong Labor Wimen to go down over something as naff as “transparency and honesty”, or young and naive as ‘misleading Parliament’. Not with shared knowledge and Plibersek and Wong next in the spotlight.

If the Brinny media caravan rolls on into The Voice airtime (as seems likely, courtesy of Sofronoff and the inevitable NACC tap dancing) – and Gallagher has to go to allow normal transmission to resume – it will be to the tune of ‘a noble Sacrifice; a brilliant career brought down by the misogyny and dirty politics of Those Opposite that have no place in This Place’.

Followed by a lifetime of sinecures and lashings of OPM.

Their ABC ran a sterling defence of Gallagher on 7:30, last night.

Sarah Ferguson and Laura Tingle invested 10 minutes of public funded broadcasting to explain that the offence of ‘Misleading Parliament’ was removed by John Howard, after he misled Parliament.

Apparently it’s now simply a matter for mention under the Westminster system, because no Minister has resigned for misleading since John Brown in 1987.

‘Massive blow’: AFP war crimes probe collapses over risk of tainted evidence
By Nick McKenzie
June 14, 2023 — 5.00am

A five-year Australian Federal Police inquiry into Ben Roberts-Smith’s alleged involvement in the execution of three Afghan captives has collapsed after Commonwealth prosecutors ruled investigators may have unwittingly used tainted evidence.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions’ (CDPP) decision not to prosecute Roberts-Smith based on evidence gathered during the AFP probe has led to a new joint taskforce being set up to investigate the alleged executions.

The taskforce comprises detectives from the specialist war crimes agency, the Office of the Special Investigator (OSI), and a new team of federal police investigators not connected to the abandoned AFP probe.

An AFP spokesman said in connection to the decision to launch a new probe into Roberts-Smith that Operation Emerald was now investigating the allegations.

The CDPP concluded in March that the five-year AFP probe should not lead to a prosecution because of the risk it was unwittingly compromised by the receipt of certain information from the Brereton inquiry, a military inspector general probe which ran from 2016-2020 and used special coercive powers to question SAS soldiers.

The potentially tainted AFP inquiries centred on the alleged execution of two Afghan prisoners at the Whiskey 108 compound on Easter Sunday in 2009 and an incident in which Roberts-Smith allegedly participated in the murder of civilian Ali Jan in September 2012.
Ben Roberts-Smith has been under police investigation for years.

The AFP spokesman said it was “committed to working with the OSI to achieve appropriate outcomes in the joint investigations” and that they “will be undertaken as expeditiously as possible”.

A joint OSI-AFP taskforce has already spent months investigating Roberts-Smith over his involvement in several other alleged executions that have no connection to the three at the centre of the CDPP’s decision.

There have been countless articles published on the internet, particularly by medical professionals, which dissent from the prevailing support for the vaccines across the world. These propose many and varied theories about why the mRNA vaccines have proved not only ineffective, but harmful. These range from imperfect and contaminated batches due to rushed production to actual evil intent with deliberately injurious additives.

A recent article by prominent critic Dr. Peter McCullough provides one of the more measured and reasonable explanations.

Tucker’s Legal Team Responds to Fox News’ Cease-and-Desist Letter (12 Jun, via Lucianne)

Tucker Carlson’s legal team has responded to Fox News’ cease-and-desist letter after the former host started posting video commentary on current events on his Twitter account, which has garnered millions of views.

The network is accusing Carlson of breaching his contract, which he still has with them until the end of 2024.

“Fox News continues to ignore the interests of its viewers, not to mention its shareholder obligations,” attorney Harmeet Dhillon told Axios.

“Doubling down on the most catastrophic programming decision in the history of the cable news industry, Fox is now demanding that Tucker Carlson be silent until after the 2024 election,” she continued. “Tucker will not be silenced by anyone … He is a singularly important voice on matters of public interest in our country, and will remain so.”

I can’t imagine why we ever harvested ourselves. Contractors are amazing. Watching the road trains pulling out brought back memories of endless hours in silo queues in the old ten ton Mack.
Contemporary young managers are much more effective at dealing with contractors than we ever were. Deep down I think that we considered contracting to be not quite ethical for farm folk.
Our husband and wife management team are surprisingly red hot on fighting the transmission line enviro disaster. They are taking a strong position in the local concerned producers and citizens groups, and linking up with neighbouring regions that are more directly affected.
Good people. The contrast with their fellow metropolitan gen y’ers couldn’t be more stark. I asked whether they thought a nascent political entity was forming. They thought not. Shame.

Further to the Brittnah-Sharaz show: Lehrmann will always be viewed as guilty no matter what. Had the affair been taken to the courts in proper fashion then very few people would have known about it. And if Lehrmann had been acquitted, after having been dragged through our grueling legal system, he would have emerged on the other side (as far as public life is concerned) whole.

There is a certain crippled species of woman (and every soy-boy they know) who will feel certainty that he did it regardless of how improbable or even impossible it might turn out to be. He will be a way they can focus and vent a less specific and general hatred of certain men or all men.

I can’t help but think that he will have to be alert to all sorts of petty acts of revenge and of spite from people he does not know and who would never face him. When he orders food in a restaurant there might be some bitter creature who decides to ‘get him’, perhaps spitting on the food being prepared, spreading false stories behind his back, and so on.

Sad fact is the higher an activist, a lefty, or bitter person imagines their moral stance the lower, more disgusting, and more degraded the acts they consider are permitted them.

From duncanm’s Daily Mail link:-

Ms Higgins spoke to her then-boyfriend David Sharaz about deleting several files from her phone, which police warned her ‘looks deceitful’.

Ms Higgins said those files were the audio of conversations she had recorded ‘for personal records’ and she ‘didn’t know if this was ok’.

Err, wut?
Several audio recordings that she was concerned about the legality of?
Who was she recording?
It seems she recorded a lot of conversations, looking for, at best, a stark admission of guilt or, failing that, some half baked concession to placate her.
What is telling is that none of these recorded conversations were deemed worth keeping, or surfaced later as part of the Toady-leaks files.
Why?
Because all of her attempts at entrapment turned up precisely zero in support of her case.
In fact, some may have damaged her case because they contained flat denials and lots of “WTF are you talking about, Britnah?”

I could never understand the idea that the special investigations team set up to investigate BRS and others could not rely on evidence discovered from the Brereton inquiry. Now it seems to have compromised the formal investigation.

For those with an interest in this saga I highly recommend the Twitter of ex military lawyer Stuart McCarthy. He was a lawyer in Afghanistan and is basically saying there is no way higher ups did not know of the many incidents now under investigation. He is pushing for some sort of international war crimes investigation into senior command. One of his mates, another military lawyer David McBride, is pending trial for leaking secret material.

In particular he has posted a link to a recent interview he did on TNT Radio.

In one incident (prosthetic leg guy shooting) he says there were three RAAF surveillance aircraft overhead. So the issue the papers never seem to mention is aerial surveillance coverage.

McCarthy says somehow Brereton knew who was standing next to each other for events several years before.

Can anybody think why aerial surveillance coverage strangely never mentioned ?

Duk has no criminal record and your comment is, typically, mendacious.

Monty always strikes me as being like the character Syme, in 1984. Orwell describes him as being ‘venomously orthodox’ and as someone who delights in stories about helicopter attacks on enemy villages, the show trials of thought-criminals, steady stream of executions in the basements of the Ministry of Love, and of course his unbridled enthusiasm for his work on Newspeak which will eventually make certain ideas impossible to formulate much less communicate.

Yet for all of this Syme is destined to be killed. He is too open and too excited by the way things are going. And most importantly, he knows what Newspeak is doing. The party does not want people who understand how they are manipulated, they want people who do not realise they are.

So in the cellar of the Ministry of Love a teary eyed Syme swings back and forward between believing he should not be there and the infallibility of the state.

Although Monty likes to think of himself as a cultural warrior truth is that for lefties the safest thing to be is a nobody, and Monty’s goal should always be to become a bigger nobody which, thanks to donut-hoovering and to his dearth of insight or reason, he just might achieve both ‘bigger nobody’ by addressing each word separately.

Secondly, the app has a simple user interface so no technical knowledge or experience is required to use it. The app comes with an algorithm that can independently determine which currencies or stocks to buy and which to sell in order to maximize profits.

Thirdly, withdrawals are fast (within 2 days of request) and reliable. Various payment methods are supported, such as cards, online accounts, bank transactions or cryptocurrencies that can be withdrawn in cash at many ATMs.

Virgin Galactic’s use of the ‘Overview Effect’ to promote space tourism is a terrible irony (13 Jun)

Astronauts might experience profound awe and wonder at the perception of Earth as a fragile living being. Some suffer crushing grief when considering the harm humans inflict on nature.

While Virgin Galactic promotes access to the Overview Effect as a major drawcard, it is a terrible irony that space tourism is enormously damaging for the environment.

Rocket emissions impact Earth’s atmosphere, temperatures and the ozone layer at an unprecedented level. A 2022 study found space tourism produces black carbon particles that are almost 500 times more efficient at warming the atmosphere than all surface and airline sources of soot combined.

Oh noes, Richard Branson is destroying the world with soot? That’s terrifying! I wonder who wrote this?

NSW Liberal Senator, Andrew Bragg, reconfirming his flog status on the ABC this morning.
Bragg thinks it’s deplorable that the text messages have been released and wants an investigation. “What happened to the rule of law and due process?” And he doesn’t like the tone in the Senate at the moment.

It’s amazing that Bragg can mouth off about rule of law and due process without a skerrick of self awareness. If those were followed there would not have been any text messages.

Much kerfuffle. No going back now after the heated exchange. I paid the full bill and left. So sad after 40 years, but there you go.

So sorry to hear that mem . . . I hope the food was good !

When I was last in Auckland earlier this year I caught up with my best friend from uni who I hadn’t seen for 42 years.

Now he was a rabid lefty at Auckland Uni like extremely full on.

Now . . . he’s evolved into a committed right-wing freedom fighter – he’s heavily involved with Voices for Freedom over there and is/was vehemently opposed to vaxs, mandates and the COVID hysteria of Ardern.

We spend the good part of 9+ hours chatting, drinking, eating, talking politics, soccer and life . . . it was like we were just resuming from when we left off all those years ago but with a different slant.

It was incredible that after 40 years both our views and outlooks had changed so much and were still aligned.

Maybe there’s hope left for some old lefties.

“… if you speed through the zone in a bus full of passengers,…”

Many years ago, when they were still building the F3 bridge over the Mooney Mooney Creek, they had sack-cloth covering the road signs. On a dark and stormy night, and on the way back to Shitney from Newcastle, I noticed these were very hard to notice as being covered up – I was fine because I regularly drove that way at the time and knew the score. Then I young man flagged me down. He told me he had crashed, so we went back up onto the freeway via the (compulsory) exit, and found his small van crashed into concrete barriers (obviously designed to stop you from driving into a several hundred foot drop due to an incomplete bridge!). He told me he hit it at 110km/h and I believed him – luckily for him, the drivers side had missed the barrier but the passenger side was pushing the front seat into a crumpled mess. Had he hit with the drivers side instead, he likely would have been trapped and bled to death before anyone found him. After seeing the mess (he’d pushed one of those “Jersey Barrier” concrete blocks over 5m!), I drove him where he needed to go in Sydney, despite it being about 40km out of my way.

The moral is: just because there are signs, it doesn’t mean they are visible as expected when the weather is bad.

Bragg thinks it’s deplorable that the text messages have been released and wants an investigation.

When you hear this, you know that one or both of the following is going on:-
.1 Bragg or his cronies have sent incriminating texts and are afraid they will surface; and/or
.2 Trumble et al are driving Bragg to undermine Dutton.

“What happened to the rule of law and due process?”

Where was he two years ago when the presumption of innocence principle was being thrown on the bonfire.

And he doesn’t like the tone in the Senate at the moment.

Again, your prior silence on Senate standards is telling.

John Stossel:

Chris Rufo makes some people angry. Why? Because he’s eliminating woke departments at Florida universities, and exposing woke corporate and government trainings.

Rufo was once a filmmaker, making documentaries for PBS about things like American poverty.

But then his research on poverty connected him with government workers who leaked documents about absurd “woke” training programs.

The documents showed that Seattle’s Office of Civil Rights, for example, trained employees to “practice self-talk that affirms … complicity in racism” and to work on “undoing your own whiteness.”

Media say Rufo has “invented” a crisis about this kind of thing, and that he’s pushing a “moral panic.”

But Rufo has evidence. Watch the video above to see some of it.

The Rule of Law – Trump is Finished?

QUESTION: Marty; This seems that the onslaught against Trump is a desperate attempt fearing that he would stop the war and reverse climate change. I have been reading you for years. You have great sources but also a great insight into what is happening in this corrupt world. I used to question your warnings that the United States would end up in a civil war. I’m at the point I cannot see how it is not possible.

Are they really this stupid to go after Trump if he could still become president even if convicted?

FS

ANSWER: “This is an absolutely desperate attempt to make sure Trump does not ever get back to the White House. Even if he does, the talk in DC is that they will use this conviction for impeachment. But that would not really pass the test since it would be before taking office unless they stretch it out until January after he is sworn in. Nevertheless, there is far too much on the line for the Neocons. They will assassinate him as a last resort. These people assume the public is stupid and it will all blow over in 30 days anyhow when football season begins. They really do believe like the Romans, give us sports and they can do as they like.

If we look at the indictment, 31 of the 37 counts brought against Trump allege he willfully retained national defense information, which is a violation of the Espionage Act. This is really a stretch for the intent of that act was espionage and nobody is making a case that Trump was handing it to an enemy. Nevertheless, the indictment was extremely dangerous and far more serious than what Nixon faced. They are not playing games.

They are desperately staging this to put him in prison. Still, there is no actual smoking gun as they say. Trump has spoken about the classified documents acknowledging that they were classified. This is a serious risk and only a jury with common sense would find him not guilty. They use conspiracy so they do not have to prove everything beyond a reasonable doubt. It will be a case arguing what they “think” was in his mind at the time. Even this is selective prosecution after Biden had classified documents thrown in his car.”

but presumed moral superiority in every area of discussion, is indicative of the always wafer thin tolerance, now fully revealed since the pandemic, that the left affords to those they would assert as friend.

Yes, it was the increasing moral superiority he assumed that was the breaking point. This made all the more odious by his adoption of particular attitudes and positions that to me bordered on perversion (I am not a prude) and which he insisted on talking about, (or showing me) and his refusal to check any facts or figures that countered his political views, which he clearly adopted from the leftist media of the day. He recently boasted that a branch of his family which is religious, no longer invited him to family stuff because they thought he’d become Satanic. Maybe so. It’s a slippery slope.

Why the hell is Dutton trying to nail Katy Gallagher to a tree for her part in supporting Ms Higgins?

It just confirms Higgins assertion that the Liberal Party supported Lehrmann and left her for dead.

I think that Trump will pick DeSantis as his VP as long as DeSantis refrains from any further personal attacks. DeSantis is the only one who has plans similar to his, who could continue that work when Trump’s term is up.

Someone posted here yesterday about the dangers of running up the arse of sticky-beak tourists.
Well, if you run up someone’s arse, you are responsible for that, legally, and in every other way. You ‘own’ and are responsible for the section of road 2 seconds in front of you.
Pay attention and look for behavioural signs in driving patterns in the car in front. If speed is inconsistent they are probably looking for an address, turn-off or landmark. If the head is on a swivel that might mean phone or kids distraction.
I am OK with what is in front of me. To a large extent I can control that. I am usually more concerned about someone behind me exhibiting the above behaviours.

That would be me. I have read a lot of advice on the obvious – which is already our standard practice. Fortunately, we have not yet (praise the Lord) hit another motorist – though we have hit the unpredictable roos which are often not visible before they suicidally jump out of the scrub.

There are many commentators here with practical experience, but on windy mountain roads (by-roads – not highway) it is common to chance upon these unpredictable motorists even when well within the maximum speed limit.

I can think of a few of Trump’s accomplishments before the COVID-19 disaster. He had most of the Middle East signed up to the Abraham Accords, US was again petrol independent which also brought down petrol prices world wide. He had the Chinese worried as a lot of industry was relocating back to the US. He had the NATO members paying their fair share and Putin did not invade any other country or start a new war.

“…the moral of that story is drive to the conditions. If you can’t see signage, maybe you’re going too fast.”

In this case, I am not surprised by what happened – as I said, the signs directing you down the (incomplete and blockaded) freeway were covered in sack-cloth. It was dark and stormy – quite heavy rain. I knew because I had done “the run” several times. I was thinking as I passed the “covered” signs (at a safe 110 – this is a freeway after all, with “controlled access”, 3.2m lanes, designed for 130km/h, no street lights) that it would be easy to “miss” that the signs were meant to be obscured, and to miss the “exit here” signs because they were relatively small and the reflection from the badly covered large “normal” signs tended to obscure them.
In daytime, it was fairly obvious what you were supposed to do – you could still see the new signs and what the said, but they were somewhat covered. At night it was not so obvious. On a rainy night, it would have been very easy to fail to see what you were supposed to do and where you were supposed to go – as I said, I’d done it more than a few times and knew where to go anyway. I had seen it in day, night and finally stormy night. This guy had been driving for a couple of hours at the time. I don’t think he was totally to blame – the circumstances of bad signage, low light, lowered visibility due to rain and no doubt a bit of inattention after a few hours of driving all contributed to his misfortune.
Remember that he actually did see the signs – the ones that were supposed to be covered up, but were incompletely so and easy to misinterpret in inclement weather as being a little unclear due to rain. He missed the ones saying “exit here” which were not 10m tall like the ones he saw, just a “standard” stop-sign sized.
In truth, if his was the only crash at that place in those times, the construction people responsible for the signage were very lucky IMHO. It was confusing and dangerous – period. They should have used a more “solid” covering for the “new” signs and used either concrete or water-filled barriers (hell, even reflective wooden ones would have done!) to “force” you down the exit. Instead, the entire 3 lanes continued into danger while small sign (maybe 1.2m wide and 600mm high) at ground level showed where was “safe”. It was like that for weeks if not months – I drove it at least twice a week in those days, and often more, so I know what it was like.
