Yes vote in need of a miracle, poll shows
Phillip Coorey – Political editor
The Indigenous Voice to parliament needs a miracle if it is to be adopted at Saturday’s referendum, with a new poll showing the nationwide No vote at 57 per cent and the Yes vote at 43 per cent at the start of this week.
The JWS Research poll, conducted exclusively for The Australian Financial Review, also shows the referendum proposal is well short of securing the requisite support of at least four of the six states.
Victoria is the only mainland state in reach of a Yes majority, it shows.
To pass, a referendum proposal needs a double majority – a majority of the national vote and the support of at least four of the six states.
Among those polled who have already voted, 71 per cent have voted No and 29 per cent have voted Yes.
Those polled are predominantly older voters who, the poll also shows, are far more hostile towards the Voice than their younger counterparts.
Support among those aged between 18 and 34 years is 53 per cent, dropping to 29 per cent for those aged 55 and older.
The findings come as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese embarked on a 24-hour blitz of South Australia, Tasmania and regional NSW trying to salvage a Yes vote.
In doing so, he drew on the horror unfolding in Israel to urge voters to show the world there was still capacity for kindness.
“This week of all weeks, when we see such trauma in the world, there is nothing – no cost – to Australians showing kindness, thinking with their heart as well as their head, when they enter the polling booth tomorrow and voting Yes,” he said in Adelaide.
“Because, my goodness, kindness costs nothing, thinking of others costs nothing.
“This is a time when Australians have that opportunity to show the generosity of spirit that I see in the Australian character, where at the worst of times we always see the best of the Australian character.”
The JWS research poll sampled 922 voters from last Friday to Monday. It has a margin of error of 3.2 per cent.
At first blush, it shows 48 per cent intend to vote No, 36 per cent intend to vote Yes and 16 per cent are undecided.
When the undecideds are pushed, they split more towards the No camp with 52 per cent intending to vote No, 39 per cent Yes, and 9 per cent still undecided.
When those undecideds are excluded, the No vote is 57 per cent and the yes vote 43 per cent.
One government source said these numbers are in line with the internal polling and there was no expectation of a victory on Saturday, although Mr Albanese continued to hold out hope.
“Of course it can be won,” he said. “Most Australians haven’t voted yet. And there’s been an arrogance, I think, from the No campaign, with some of the misinformation that’s out there.”
The poll, which did not include Tasmania, shows that of the mainland states, only Victoria was in reach of a Yes vote. In NSW, 52 per cent were voting No, 40 per cent yes, and 8 per cent undecided.
In Victoria, 44 per cent intended to vote Yes and 44 per cent No, with 11 per cent undecided. Just over half the latter group would have to vote Yes for the state to record a Yes majority.
Queensland was 33 per cent Yes and 56 per cent No with 11 per cent undecided. The other resource state, WA, had a Yes vote of 28 per cent, a No vote of 64 per cent and 7 per cent undecided.
SA, a key state that Mr Albanese has visited twice this week alone, looks out of reach, with a 40 per cent Yes vote, a 56 per cent No vote, and 4 per cent undecided.
Due to the small sample sizes in these states, there are large margins of error. But JWS director John Scales said the numbers were broadly indicative of expectations.
Pollster Kos Samaras said for the double majority to be achieved, the vote in SA, Victoria, NSW and Tasmania would have to be 57 per cent to stop Queensland dragging the national vote to below 50 per cent.
The JWS Research poll shows a deep split between country and city voters. In the regions, support is just 31 per cent compared with 43 per cent in metropolitan areas.
Support among ethnic communities is higher than average at 46 per cent.
What is the deal with the Hamster apologists? Why do they attempt to excuse their behavior?

Police have confirmed the arrest of three people outside the Sydney Jewish museum after a tense police operation took place on Friday afternoon.
Darlinghurst Road was closed by police vehicles as a heavy presence of police officers aimed to get the area under control about 1pm.
NSW Police told Sky News Australia “there is an operation underway” however gave no further details on the situation at the Darlinghurst museum until about 2pm when they confirmed the arrest of three people.
The three people have been taken into custody and officers have searched the vehicle that they were in outside the museum.
Police said they did not check the vehicle for a bomb however it was cleared of any threat.
The road started to reopen again shortly after 2pm.
That’s actually pathetic given our Marxist indoctrination system called “schools”.

Leah,
As an ordinary member I support efforts to appeal to all potential members especially younger graduates who should be the future of our industry.
Unfortunately DEI initiatives are clearly correlated with the kind of modern university systems of thought that damage the lives of graduates and undermine the shared values of non-discrimination and equality of opportunity that underpin our society.
Can you please explain:
1) Does the AIG board support firms in our industry discriminating against older, white or Asian, male, or more experienced and competent people, who are typical of AIG members?
2) Does the AIG board support admitting people to high-performing university or corporate cohorts because of their race, but who tend to fail because they are underprepared; and perhaps saddled with massive student debt for no return?
3) Does the AIG board support firms in our industry being measured against DEI and environmental activist goals at the cost of business performance, contrary to our duty to shareholders to maximise their returns?

Israel-Palestine latest news: Israel wants 1.1 million citizens out of north Gaza in 24 hours, says UN
Israel has told the United Nations to evacuate all staff and citizens from the northern Gaza Strip within 24 hours ahead of an expected ground assault on Hamas.
The United Nations said it has been warned by the Israeli military that some 1.1 million Palestinians in Gaza should immediately relocate to the enclave’s south.
It immediately asked Israel to rescind the order, which the Israeli military has not commented on.
“The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said.
“The United Nations strongly appeals for any such order, if confirmed, to be rescinded avoiding what could transform what is already a tragedy into a calamitous situation,” he said.
Mr Dujarric said the order by the Israeli military also applied to people sheltered in UN facilities, including schools, health centres and clinics.

Sculpture by the Sea is here, still making the world a better place
This year is the outdoor art show’s 25th appearance on the Sydney shore. Founder David Handley is still thrilled to be staging the event.
Theo Chapman
Weekend Fin editor
“What makes Sculpture by the Sea the success it is, both artistically and with the public, is the Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk, and Cottesloe Beach, which are unique for being suitable for the exhibition,” says David Handley, founder of the iconic outdoor art show.
“If all you needed was a long, flat sandy beach, then Sculpture by the Sea would be everywhere from Venice Beach to Barcelona, but you need the variety of environments, you need the journey for the public to be on.
This year’s Sculpture by the Sea is the 25th Sydney show since the first event in 1997. The pandemic put it on hold for a couple of years, but its resurgence was never in doubt.
The locations have guaranteed a queue of keen artists who want to see their works displayed against the backdrop of the coast and, so far, 2685 works by 1125 artists from 81 countries have been shown.
When pressed to nominate his favourite works of all time, Handley is reluctant, but eventually names a dozen pieces. I Have Been Dreaming to be a Tree by Korean artist ByeongDoo Moon is among them. The sculpture of a stag was a crowd pleaser in 2011. “It was a relatively little work but the antlers going up forever and ever really captured people’s imaginations. It got the people’s choice that year,” Handley says.
Sculpture by the Sea runs from October 20 to November 6 along the Bondi to Tamarama coastal path.

Israel wants 1.1 million people in north Gaza to leave in next 24 hours – UN
The Israeli military has told the UN that everyone living north of Wadi Gaza should relocate to southern Gaza in the next 24 hours, says a UN spokesperson.
The UN says this amounts to approximately 1.1 million people – about half the population of the entire Gaza Strip. The affected area includes densely populated Gaza City.
The alert was given just before midnight, Gaza and Jerusalem time (23:00 GMT).
“The United Nations considers it impossible for such a movement to take place without devastating humanitarian consequences,” the UN said in a statement.
Israel has been preparing for a ground offensive, gathering soldiers, heavy artillery and tanks on the border of Gaza. It has been launching airstrikes on Gaza since Saturday after Hamas militants’ surprise attack on Israel.

Chris – I think the honest answer to your question is:
Sry, we have to do this garbage or we’re completely screwed. The place in the market for our existing businesses is now entirely reliant on the good will of the government, which imposes collectivist ideologies on us all. Failure to comply with these collectivist ideologies will mean our extinction and other groups who do comply are provided government protection. The term “barrier to entry” is real.
This all started with us thinking we were trying to be nice: small things that seemed perfectly reasonable. And they were… and there were more and they were reasonable too… until they weren’t.

I can’t understand why you all think that the AEC is an honest broker in this referendum.
They are unapologetic in touting their so called “Reconciliation Action Plan” where it is stated “The Australian Electoral Commission will deepen its understanding of its sphere of influence and the unique contribution it can make to lead progress across the five dimensions of reconciliation.”
The unique contribution the AEC will make is the widespread fraud in handling of postal votes. Results will suddenly be announced to be weeks away. No clear result on Saturday, to give them time to put their RAP into action.
You will lose, and wonder why.
Don’t try to ruin Lizzie’s holiday.

More Evidence Hamas is Targeting Civilians on Both Sides
“Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) are prohibiting Gaza residents from leaving. Israel has provided evacuation notices and warned civilians to flee, but that is not possible. The terrorists have told the civilians that these warnings from Israel are nothing more than psychological warfare and to stay put.
On October 10, 2023, the spokesperson department of Hamas’s interior ministry wrote on the ministry’s Telegram channel: “An important note: We repeat our call on the residents to ignore the voice messages being sent randomly by the occupation to their phones demanding that they leave their homes. Their goal is to arouse panic and fear as part of a psychological warfare [campaign] accompanying the occupation’s aggression against us.” Another message was posted on October 8 to a different Telegram channel: “”An important note: The occupation has been randomly sending audio and recorded messages to the phones of Gaza residents demanding that they leave their homes. We call on civilians to ignore such messages, which are aimed at arousing panic and fear and in the framework of a psychological warfare [campaign] accompanying the occupation’s aggression against our people.”
As I explained in a previous post, Hamas is using Palestinian civilians as their human shields. They strategically placed their weapons and secret military bases in public areas such as schools, hospitals, and mosques. They believe they could gain sympathy from the international community when these areas are bombed by Israeli forces with civilians inside. Hamas would not stand a chance if the civilians were not unknowingly guarding them. Hamas will continue to retreat behind the civilians they claim they want to liberate. Palestine has no government to overpower the terrorist group, and many have been successfully convinced that Hamas are their protectors”.

I dunno … a cruise ship weighs in anywhere from 100 000+ tonnes to 250 000 tonnes. All that weight is moving at anything from 35 km/h up to almost 50 km/h. That will take an awful lot of stopping at sea, and almost impossible to board at speed from a smaller boat.
Security when boarding can be as rigorous as boarding an aircraft. All ongoing goods are X-rayed.
Some cruise ships (e.g. some Princess) carry sonic disruptors on board, as well as high pressure firehoses trained outboard.
Cruise ships also carry an armoury, though generally only handguns, which can only be accessed on a direct order from the Captain. Many of their security staff are former law officers or ex-military.
Not perfectly safe, I agree, but no worse than a lot of other places.

Israel envoy says UN response to evacuation order is ‘shameful’
In the last few minutes Israel has issued a response to the UN, defending its evacuation order and saying the international body’s statement was “shameful”.
Gilad Erdan, the country’s ambassador to the UN, said Israel was giving an early warning to the residents of Gaza and was trying to “minimise harm to those not involved” in its military operation against Hamas.
“For many years, the UN has turned a blind eye to the arming of Hamas and its use of the civilian population and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip as a hiding place for its weapons and murder,” he said.
“Now, instead of standing by Israel, whose citizens were slaughtered by Hamas terrorists… it preaches to Israel,” said Mr Erdan.
“It is better for the UN to focus now on returning the hostages, condemning Hamas, and supporting Israel’s right to defend itself,” he added.

In the last few minutes, Hamas have told Gazans residents “not to fall for propaganda” and to “stay in your homes.”
Somehow, I don’t think Israel is bullsh!tting here.
I think we all know that BoN.
It was nearly forty years ago.
I’m showing my age Rosie… 😀
Before my time, then…
I really don’t think there is the scope of talent to cheatingly re-write voting outcomes.
The ‘cheating’ here consists of dishonest campaigns, and corporations – very alive to how dependent they are upon government goodwill* – who celebrate the government’s message.
But re-writing votes? Pulling boxes of votes out from their arses and whatnot? I really don’t see it. Again, not from relic of decency, but the strategic and logistical ineptitude of local talent.
I can’t really say there has been any improbable results in our elections. When Albo won it did not really surprise anyone. When Howard got turfed you could see it on the cards long before hand. The only upsets are ever when a particularly egregious bias in pollsters exaggerates the chances of Labor (a form of gaslighting) getting in and failing. But in those cases Cats can usually identify by plentiful discrepancies in other metrics -such as betting markets.
But cheating on ballots themselves such as seems the case in the US? I don’t think so.
* It is impossible to overstate the extent of government permeating the economy, it being so large. And government contracts abound in political clauses where a company must mirror the government’s political agenda. The contracts demand wymminses and Indigines and trannies and so on – stuff so contrived that only people as lacking professionalism as the government would think it urgent.
Not a lot of love for the Yes vote round here.
Which, of course, is understandable. Common sense stands out on the Cat.
Just went to vote and the line was 1/2 k long. Came home and try tomorrow.
Just coming to the realisation that I’m older than most of the Lotus Eaters… but younger than Ron De Santis, so there’s that.

He is contradicting himself by saying this.
No surgery will make him a woman, a simple fact.
The EU is gonna have to take in 2Miio Palis. They’ll have to send all the Ukies back to fit them in.
Lots more stations open tomorrow.
Vote early.
And yet the UN hasn’t seen fit to tell Egypt to remove their block on the southern border so those people could have already gotten out.
We see through you UN.
Cruise ships
Not perfectly safe, I agree, but no worse than a lot of other places.
It’s the crew that would concern me. My ship had two types of crew: Charming Europeans for the face to face and third world for the administration, laundry workers, cleaners, engine room gofors, carpenters and pot scrubbers. Plenty of Muz there. I met them.
You recon they all passed a stringent back ground and security tests? Generally 1 crew for every 2 passengers. Not to mention the on off band, entertainment, replacement crew members…. The Achille Lauro hijacking was passengers, but the Jihadis do learn.
Passed a local polling place. 20 minute wait to get in the door!
Yes and no HTV people keeping well clear of each other. The yes crowd looked very much like the older wealthy virtue signaling crowd.

Every single news service is reporting that Israel has told Gazans to go south.
Just do as humus says instead.
News service showing gazans with minor injuries getting treated.
I’m sorry to see injured children.
Do what Israel had recommended.

More planes have been hijacked and proportionally more people killed. Should we fly?

I agree that rewriting ballots and the mail in issues the US had are unlikely to happen here but I do recall an entire truckload of Senate votes during Abbott’s election going missing… to this day, they have still never been found.
I think Humbass telling Gazans not leave because they need their human shield.
As a Cat I find it hard to understand what Yes voters are thinking; I certainly don’t want to uncork what might follow actually talking to one.
Oi TE!
I’m 70/30 NO.
All states NO.
The Left were very keen to support Sect.18C of the Racial Vilification Act. Since this Act clearly criminalises what happened, and what was said, at the protest at the Opera House, why are there no outcries to prosecute under 18C? Oh yes – I forgot – those of the Jewish faith were not at front & centre as those designed to be protected by that clause.
Just a reminder:
RACIAL DISCRIMINATION ACT 1975 – SECT 18C
Offensive behaviour because of race, colour or national or ethnic origin
(1) It is unlawful for a person to do an act, otherwise than in private, if:
(a) the act is reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people; and
(b) the act is done because of the race, colour or national or ethnic origin of the other person or of some or all of the people in the group.
Note: Subsection (1) makes certain acts unlawful. Section 46P of the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986 allows people to make complaints to the Australian Human Rights Commission about unlawful acts. However, an unlawful act is not necessarily a criminal offence. Section 26 says that this Act does not make it an offence to do an act that is unlawful because of this Part, unless Part IV expressly says that the act is an offence.
(2) For the purposes of subsection (1), an act is taken not to be done in private if it:
(a) causes words, sounds, images or writing to be communicated to the public; or
(b) is done in a public place; or
(c) is done in the sight or hearing of people who are in a public place.
(3) In this section:
“public place” includes any place to which the public have access as of right or by invitation, whether express or implied and whether or not a charge is made for admission to the place.

I’ll be handing out HTV No cards on the morrow!
As will I. From what I am told many booths will be unmanned by the No campaign. Most Aussies believe she’ll be right. Well she wont.
Sorry – The Racial Discrimination Act.
When the results come in, I will say: ” I told you so”.
I might add a few nyahs at the end of that.
The Egyptians don’t want rabies loose infecting their own people.
I agree that rewriting ballots and the mail in issues the US had are unlikely to happen here but I do recall an entire truckload of Senate votes during Abbott’s election going missing… to this day, they have still never been found.
In W.A.? I recall boxes of ballots that were never found.
Will you mea culpa if you are wrong?
Heard the same in Metro Perth. “No” vote campaign is going to have plenty of booths with nobody there.
Pardon?
The yes crowd looked very much like the older wealthy virtue signaling crowd.
Not in country towns!
it was one box of 1370 ballots, enough for a do over.
Old Ozzie:
I’ll believe those duplicitous French bastards when the first 10,000 Arabs are deported and not before.
What exactly are they “protesting”?
That the Israelis didn’t give them a chance to kill enough children and teenagers?
They would win more friends if they mourned the evil act.
Hang on, Top Ender. My 52/48 clearly had some conditions. If you want my call for a bet without shenanigans, then it’s the 30/70
All of the Slime (13%), half of the Liars vote at the last election (16%) and a Bunch of Teals and LINOs (8%).
As for Phatty Adam’s Yes vote “drowning” in a sea of “nos”, it will bob up to the top.
Unflushable.

Ukraine gets repopulated with Gazans.
In 2024, no one is happy.
Just as likely they want heaps of civilian casualties for their international propaganda campaign.
Or both.
I’m off on a cruise in three and a bit weeks. Northern lights, so a bit cold for jihadi hopefuls. The one down the Elbe a bit later might be better pickings.
I’ll take my chances.
John Brumble, you can’t have a conditional vote, its no or yes.
Phatty Adams ceded his cattle property to the local indiginees then?
How such a bloated child of Gough still has the gall to lecture after decades of non stop onanism is beyond me.
I wonder if we will see a much lower number of non voters in this referendum than we saw in last years election?
10% non voting last year was perhaps a “pox on both your houses” response to covid tyranny.
Hopefully tomorrow will be treated as an even bigger danger to our future as a country and many fewer will abstain.
That would be the cattle property his manservant runs for him.
People expecting much higher than around 60:40 on a national basis should consider Sancho’s 4:16PM butchers’ paper.
The population ballast in Vic and NSW makes that a stretch target.
My Bayesian take:
(Obviously this is 97.3% unscientific and not a valid entry.)
Boo!
Yeah. They only just finished off the ISIS insurgency in Sinai this year, after eleven years of effort. You can see why they might not want to go back to square one.
John:
If you want my call for a bet without shenanigans, then it’s the 30/70
So Yes 30 and No 70?
Don’t forget, if No gets up they can just hold another referendum and keep holding them until we vote correctly.
This is the EU way.
BoN – by the way, the hijacking of the Achille Lauro occurred on October 7th. Same date as this recent atrocity.
Thanks Faustus. I like your truthy numbers. And, yes, you do have to factor in the unthinkable.
I don’t think so. The punters appear to regard this as a pretty important vote and neither side wants the other to win. This suggests there’s motivation and not a pox on both houses.
They haven’t tried it with the monarchy and it’s been over 20 years.
Even stand alone referendums have okay turnouts and very high formal votes cast.
If Noel from Noosa thinks that taking away the Olympic Games is a threat, he is even more deluded than usual.

An Indigenous activist’s High Court bid to stop the Voice to parliament referendum from going ahead has failed.
Robbie Thorpe, the uncle of independent senator Lidia Thorpe, sought to argue Saturday’s vote was “an attack on Aboriginal sovereignty”.
Thorpe said in a statement on Friday the denial of sovereignty was causing serious mental harm.
Have enjoyed 3 days so far at the coast, sitting on the deck looking out over the water enjoying a Kilkenny ale. The wind has dropped, the clouds in a slow drift, pockets of blue being crowded out as the wind changes direction. There’s a bunny sitting on the grass with me poor mutt looking longingly but unable to run anymore. The bunny knows this. Isn’t Australia a magnificent place. Pity about the politics. 50.1% No will still be a good result, though I doubt its enough to stop the bastards trying again.
rosie:
Our mum was at Cowra in the AWAS, packing supplies to be parachuted into New Guinea at the time of the breakout. She spoke on only a couple of occasions of being escorted to and from the barracks to the packing sheds, being escorted past the covered bodies of our young men who had been hacked to death at their posts. I’ve seen mum cranky and I’ve seen her angry. I’ve only once seen her enraged.
A most frightening experience.
Calli – They’ll’ve been pruned down a bit by then I suspect. Chastened slightly.
JC that was before the two Irish Treaty of Lisbon votes in 2008/9. That’s now the target model for referenda
The Aussie Republicans were mouth breathing mongs.
Here’s the blueprint for how they could have won.
” do you agree with Australia becoming a republic upon the death of HRH Queen Elizabeth”
Would have defanged the respect a lot of people had for the old boiler, Charlie’s flakiness would have played into it and it could be couched as respectful rather than childish.
Oh, and at the end of their 4 year term the head of state is placed into a giant wicker man on top of Parliament and…..
That’s why we’re voting no lady. Australia should not be divided by race.
That’s right, TE. No shenanigans, my pick is the Yes 30 and No 70. I still have just slightly enough faith in Australia to not actively change ballots.
Then again, back in the day I didn’t think they’d stoop to bussing in people to Indi, so there’s that.
Seriously?
Are you saying that pre-“invasion” Australia wasn’t all unicorns and rainbows and sunlit uplands? Are you saying it was…bad? And a “no” vote will send you there?
Lady, if you want to guilt trip ordinary Aussies, get your story straight.
IIRC, the AEC Commissioner of the time was moved to other duties, no mention of how many minions might also have been moved on.

We should have voted yes in 1988 to the human rights provisions (preventing Federal trials not on indictment to avoid juries very sneaky [arguably it should have applied to the States as well]), making the States and territories subject to strict just compensation rules for compulsory acquisitions and making the States subject to the non establishment of religion and religious tests.
We should have voted YES in 1999, the US didn’t always have their current form of government, bill of rights (many States had their own) and we could have moved to a directly elected Presidency like the Irish have later on.
The monarchists didn’t have to win in 1999, they just had to let the ALP talk. I was always miffed afterwards that ALP members would refer to the martyrdom of “their” model. It largely came from the convention and John Howard acted honourably and let it go through Parliament!
Anybody remember the Ghost of Bob Hawke’s referenda? Nah, me either. Sunk without trace.
Who paid for the activists High Court challenge and why was it even heard as the activist has no sovereignty? Let me guess…..you and me.
Good luck getting “timber” at Bunnings, champ. Now go and find me the striped paint, mongs.

I suspect it’s different in Europe because voting is a personal choice. Most folks here don’t like being dragooned to a voting booth and forced to vote. If you keep bringing up the same ref the party doing so will be punished.
That’s the one, Ozzie. We start in Prague. Expecting real cold…taking the possum mink gloves (h/t Gab) and beanie for extra warmth.
But will first go up to the Arctic Circle. Should be fun.

have not got a clue on Voice – I am voting NO tomorrow – thinking of wearing Halloween Hawaiian Style Shirt to vote
Just want a NO Win & a Labor/Greens/Teal AlboSleezy, Langton, Ray Martin & Noel from Noosa, Humiliation

If she wants change elsewhere, she should encourage others to follow her example.

Hamas TV channel hacked, warns Gazans to find shelter (12 Oct)
That sounds about right. Neat work Mossad e-warfare types. Maybe Gazans should believe what the IDF is warning them about.
How boorish, trying to imbue his every little thing with momentous importance.
How many people have voted in everything from a federal election to secretary of local footy club have done so aware the odds were pretty much certain that they would not win.
I wonder if he sits on the commode with a thesaurus looking to find the most stirring words to describe each explosive eruption into the bowl.
“A rumble from the colon, its deep timbre proclaiming its origin in the most ancient coils of intestines, presaging an event about to be born after which the world would never be the same again. Surging like magma the turd blindly winds its way with such force that it would drag walls of the colon with it…”
I hope so, and we should do everything within our joint power to make it so. Will your children be made to go to school by their parents?
I have heard the same from relatives there. These young people are usually working in EU bureaucracy and want to keep their well paying jobs.
How utterly ridiculous. President Turnbull was a cert under that model.

The upshot is he retires and never becomes PM.
