OK, Punctuated Equilibrium has its points, but really, those points take up a miniscule percentage of the geologic record. The overall tendency has been to show steady change for 99%+ of the record.

Not really. Consider Heinrich and Dansgaard-Oeschger events which feature cooling and warming by up to 15C in less than 50 years.

OK. I surrender.
🙂
(Mind you, I wasn’t aware of the Heinrich and Dansgaard-Oeschger events – so there’s a newie.)

Genetic drift can enhance variation and also stabilize the genome. Rather precarious for small population species. Ongoing debate. Genetic drift is a key player in gradual transitions and eliminating mutations. It can reduce the amount of gene variation that kicks natural selection along. Confusing.

Yes.
And even bigger fools refuse to admit their mistakes.

The picture I have seen was not as clear as the one in the WA, and from the side only, I should have been more alert when I couldn’t link.

Sorry I spoke and being gullible but we all make mistakes, in the end who has the time and resources to completely verify every news item.

I envy those here who can be 24/7 on the ball and be right!?

Upon the ‘not guilty’ verdict, I have some advice for Bruce Lehrmann, firstly, he should never again have a one night stand, and secondly, he should depart this country…for good.

Should imagine that, by the time Bruce Lehrman has finished with the Australian legal system, he’d be looking forward to a life of chastity, crushed ice and chamber music.

Reader comment (Palmer_in_NC) from a Powerline article:

We reward victims … Further, we get to imagine we are morally virtuous for doing it…with the added bonus of supplanting God with ourselves as saviors.

There’s a payoff to all involved (except the taxpayer, of course, but they’re irrelevant).

Reading a few reports of Birdcage activity at Flemington yesterday.
Some people seem to think Matt Damon and wife paid for entry like ordinary punters and turned up out of love for Australian horse racing and this is just another indicator of Melbourne’s crucial role in world affairs.

They are more frequent in glacial periods not inter-glacials which we are in now. One of the things which really craps me about alarmism is we are simply now in a climate which is as good as it gets on this rock. The last Heinrich event was the Younger Dryas which occurred about 12000 bya. The temperature literally dropped by nearly 15C overnight. The reason was even though the Earth was coming out of a glacial period due to orbital changes of the Earth around the Sun all the ice which melted caused ocean damming from the fresh water which stopped the oceans current distributing heat.

And these retards today are worried about plant food/CO2.

Should imagine that, by the time Bruce Lehrman has finished with the Australian legal system, he’d be looking forward to a life of chastity, crushed ice and chamber music.

I deeply hope Mr Lehrmann has an alternative view. Namely:

That by the time he’s finished collecting millions from the ACT government, Fat Lisa and her hubby as well as Pallashay’s DPP for malicious prosecution, he will (and should) live a life of overt porkery of high-end strippers in a waterfront mansion – a lifestyle that makes Tiger Woods’ glory days look timid and bookish.

Also known as Bond Events, they seem to have a period of about 1,470 years. They often coincide with major events in human history. As far as I know no one knows why they occur, but the archaeological evidence seems fairly persuasive.

Ah yes an AU Falcon. Worst one Eva.

Back when the AU was to be released, I was invited to the pre-launch by Ford although I had no direct relationship with them. Dozens of people were flown in from around the country to Melbourne where we attended a ‘full on’ presentation. Drinks beforehand, canapes, pretty girls in Ford ‘uniforms’….. you get the idea. I knew quite a few of those present and it was obvious that Ford had gone all out.

The car however, was nowhere to be seen. I reckon there must have been 150 people at the presentation and after a couple of hours we were ushered into the auditorium. Presentations by the Head of Design and assorted other Ford execs who all extolled the new design principles and the futuristic style.

Then, stage lights swirled, music reached a crescendo and a car under a tarp appeared on the stage. The tarp was lifted and…… you could have heard a pin drop. We all stared. The person sitting behind me was a chap named Don and I knew he was the senior buyer with a national company. Don was a big bloke with one of those deep resonating voices. Don said “f*ck me”. Those within earshot cracked up laughing.

The AU was, without doubt, a styling shock with its supposedly ‘avant-garde’ looks. Many at the presentation, and subsequently the public, seemed to think it was ugly and was ‘Australia’s Edsel”. Soon after we were ushered to an area where we could see the car up close, sit inside it etc. Ford were obviously very proud (or seemed to be) but the car was a dog, with fleas.

On the plane home that evening I was looking at the glossy brochures and couldn’t understand why they had taken such a path. The Generation 3 Ford Taurus had taken a belting because of its styling – why would Ford Australia decide to go avant-garde?

Ford put in a lot of effort over the next 4-5 years but sales struggled and didn’t recover until the BA series car came along in late 2002.

Bruce:
My understanding was that as the solar cycles cooled and allowed a damming effect of planetary ice in one hemisphere, fresh water collected behind ice dams which would last a millennia or so, the cumulative periods of warming would eventually release the gigatons of fresh water into the seas, and generally screw things around.
But I’m not a meteorologist so I can’t give a more exact rationale…

Armstrong says, “You have a lot of uncertainty and confusing trends developing. When this materializes in people understanding what’s happening…the dollar and gold would go up together. For some inexplicable reason I was later invited to a couple of ‘track days’ by Ford in the AU. These were actually good fun with a couple of driving instructors and a ‘name’ such as a V8 Supercar driver. Most invitees were people from corporate that Ford was trying to cultivate and a few others Ford thought worthy. But, if you invite people who can actually drive and are motorsport competitors to try out standard road cars on a racetrack….. well, you can imagine. Probably spent nearly as much time sideways* (on purpose) than in a straight line.

I also did a handful of Holden track days (had a mate who was the organiser) as well. Same.

* I knew the driving instructors as they were all locals who were also motorsport competitors. At the beginning of the track day, the protocol was that you would do a couple of laps with an instructor in the passenger seat. I still remember after an epic tyre howling slide on a corner at Mallala raceway the instructor saying “Yeah, very funny Speedbox, now cut it out or we’ll both get in the sh*t”. Great day.

Sydney MPs, Jewish leaders condemn ‘grotesque’ Hitler posters

By alexi demetriadi

High-profile Sydney MPs and Jewish leaders have condemned “grotesque” posters that appeared across the city’s eastern suburbs and CBD overnight, depicting Adolf Hitler removing a Benjamin Netanyahu mask.

The posters appeared across traffic signs and road infrastructure around Sydney’s eastern suburbs, which is home to a large Jewish community.

They depict Nazi leader Hitler removing a mask of Israeli prime minister Mr Netanyahu, of which NSW Police confirmed they were investigating who, or which group of people, were behind it.
Read Next

The posters were slammed by Jewish community leaders.

“The individuals who put up these sinister posters knew exactly what they were doing, choosing images that would inflict maximum trauma and placed them in the heart of Sydney’s Jewish community,” NSW Jewish Board of Deputies president David Ossip said.

“It is devastating to recognise that Holocaust survivors and their descendants would have this morning confronted prominent images of Hitler as they undertook their normal activities.”

Mr Ossip encouraged people of goodwill to “speak out immediately and make clear there would be no tolerance for such hatred”.

Executive Council of Australian Jewry co-CEO Alex Ryvchin slammed those political leaders who had “legitimised”, or even attended, the weekly Sydney CBD pro-Palestine rallies, “where Nazi comparisons and Holocaust inversion are routine”.

“It (the poster) is intended to intimidate and harass Jewish Australians, many of whom are Holocaust survivors or their descendants,” Mr Ryvchin said.

“But if these thugs and cretins want to know who resembles Hitler in the context of the war with Hamas, they should look to the savages who went house to house hunting Jews with sadistic pride, raping, torturing and burning alive.”

Both the area’s state and federal MPs were equally unequivocal in their condemnation.

The Jewish community has been facing daily acts of antisemitism and race hate – this has taken it to a whole new level,” NSW Vaucluse MP Kellie Sloane said.

“These targeted attacks on Sydney’s Jewish community must stop and the full force of the law must be applied to those who practise or incite race hate.”

Federal Wentworth MP Allegra Spender called the posters “appaling”.

“We must not let events overseas harm the achievements of our rich and respectful multicultural society.,” she said.

“Many in our Jewish community have told me they feel scared to be openly Jewish in our streets. That is heartbreaking for us all – no matter what your faith. We must all stand for compassion and empathy, and stand up against fear and intimidation.”

I rented a car for the weekend (visiting family in Orange). I had booked a plain old Corolla (or similar) but was ‘upgraded’ to an MG SUV. (i.e. they didn’t have the car I requested.)

Well, the MG was an appalling piece of faeces.

The engine seemed sluggish but it may be that the car needs a service – I got messages saying so every time I started the thing.

More obvious a problem was that there was a black plastic moulding about 15cm wide in the centre of the windscreen which extended perhaps a third of the way down, beneath which was the rear view mirror, altogether blocking more than half the windscreen – right where a person in the city would be looking for pedestrians. Every time I stopped at lights I had to crouch forward to see if there were any people approaching whose feet had not yet appeared in the crack of visibility. HTF was this approved for use in Australia?

There are three levers off the steering column, one for wipers, one for indicators, and one for cruise control and associated functions. Only the wipers control was visible when the steering wheel was in a neutral position, the other two were obscured by the steering wheel. If you owned the vehicle you would quickly get so you did not need to look, but for a rental where the driver might no t be familiar it was a minefield. I had to keep pulling over to read the labels. Nevertheless, designing a car so wanting in intuitiveness is pretty bad.

I am think that, when I drop the car off tomorrow, I will piss in the fuel tank. I might be able to save a few other people from similar upgrades at least for a while.

As anyone who has driven an AU Ford at speed will attest, the handing of the car can best be described as ‘disconcerting’. Kind of wallows with a tendency that you have to ‘wait’ for the car to respond to your steering input.

How is this not “hate speech”?

It is hate speech. The “preacher” should be charged, but he won’t be.

Why are our law enforcers so afraid of them?

They’re not afraid. You see, they agree with the Islamist preacher. Our law enforcers have been completely politicised, so that they now practice woke policing. We saw what ensued on Monday night, 9 October 2023 when the NSW Police stood back, watched and did nothing when a group of rabid, frenzied, frothing leftists and Palestinian Arabs screeched “kill the Jews” and “gas the Jews” on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. I’m still waiting for charges to be laid and arrests to be made of those who engaged in that hate speech that terrible Monday night. Last I heard no charges have been laid and no arrests have been made.

Here’s the thing, and it’s been happening for a long time, but there’s now a very unholy alliance between the left and Islamists, just like there was in Iran before the Shah fell, and this alliance is working beautifully.

Speedbox and others re the AU Falcon.

We had the wagon version. Purchased new in 1999 after the Sydney hail storm. Got about a third of the purchase price because of light hail damage. I always thought the wagon looked better proportioned than the odd sedan. Even the cheesechutter grill seemed to work (we called our car “the Baleen Whale” because the grill resembled a whale mouth. It would have looked much better with 16 inch alloy wheels rather than the 15s with plastic rims. It’s interior was odd and too grey.

But we loved it. It was reliable and it’s 6 cylinder engine went much better on the highway (we lived in the bush and battled semis on the New England Highway) than the later commodore that replaced it.

The VX Commodore was a much nicer looking car and handled better. But I missed the Falcon’s torque and smooth auto. We had a young family at the time and loved how the old ugly AU went.

Milton – the AU was ok as a taxi (Ford sold many for that purpose) and as a metro car with the occasional longer trip, say, Brisbane to Gold Coast, but it was a dog otherwise. Mechanically it was very mediocre, coupled with lazy suspension. Transmission, differential and cooling system issues were relatively common. Sure, it was a car from the late ’90s so the build quality was typical of that time, but a disproportionate number of the AUs set a new standard in crappy Aussie cars.

Thousands attend pro-Palestine rally in Melbourne while police investigate Hitler posters in Sydney
Eleanor CampbellNCA NewsWire
Sun, 5 November 2023 12:48PM

Tens of thousands of protesters have gathered to Melbourne calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and chanting ‘Shame Labor! Shame!’

Record numbers brought traffic to a halt in Melbourne’s CBD on Sunday afternoon, marking the sixth protest against Israel’s war on Hamas held across Australia this week.

Rally goers were seen carrying signs that read ‘Justice for Palestine’ and ‘Albanese you can’t hide, you’re supporting genocide’.

Protesters marched from the state’s library and through the CBD streets where police were seen lined up outside of Victoria’s parliament.

Pro-Palestine rallies also took place in Adelaide on Friday night, and in Sydney and Brisbane on Saturday. Other protests were held in Perth and Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.

‘Disgraceful’

Police have launched an investigation after posters caricaturing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Adolf Hitler were displayed along two busy roads in Sydney.

The Australian Jewish Association posted pictures to its social media channels earlier on Sunday.

NSW Liberal MP Kellie Sloane said the posters were “vile” and said police were surveilling CCTV footage to find whoever was responsible.

“These anti-Semitic displays are targeted and vile and have no place in any community,” she said.

Take the Pedant Challenge…

Steve Waterson in the Oz has just posted this…

I managed to find 59 in my first read through.

A young friend at the paper recently observed of some politician’s ludicrous thought bubble, “If he thinks that, he’s got another thing coming”.

I politely pointed out that the expression is “another think coming”, only to discover that my intervention condemned me as an orthographic, semantic and syntactic dinosaur. So it’s time to put that right, shake off the shackles of orthodoxy and join the new linguistic free-for-all.*

It was alarming, when we poured over the big dictionary, to find that change had past me by, and that for all intensive purposes my version had been supplanted by the misheard and, to my delicate ears, illogical “thing”.

It never seizes to amaze me how often supposably intelligent people make this kind of flagrant mistake, but heedless to say (as someone who’s never been adverse to offering my opinion, sort after or not), appraising them of their errors goes down like a damp squid.

Irregardless, the discussion peaked my curiosity, and wet my appetite for more. I don’t mean to infer that I possess any superior knowledge, and the iconoclast in me instinctively welcomes a flaunting of the rules, but I’ve always flattered myself that I had a decent grasp of the tenants of English usage.

I fancied it was my strong suite, and could go on about it at nauseam, albeit to little affect.

While we may not object to change per say, do we really want to give free reign to this abuse of language? Must we grin and bare it as we watch our noble – and somewhat unique – tongue stray into unchartered territory, decay into just another pigeon? It literally begs the question: is this borne of ignorance, or disinterest?

But when I began to canvas the views of other colleagues, I learnt I’m not the font of wisdom I imagined. Where I once looked in the mirror and saw the splitting image of Shakespeare, or at least Enid Blyton, now I see a boar pedalling the penultimate in arrogance, trying to proscribe to his fellows how they should speak.

A bit of discrete self-depreciation is in order. For in the mist of all the madness in the world, we should be reticent to heave scorn on people over an issue of limited importance, no matter the passions it might illicit.

It’s a mute point, of course; we all make mistakes, and few dare say we are beyond approach, or that our grammar always passes mustard. How rude to hone in on someone’s faults and turn them into some kind of escape goat for your own deep-seeded prejudices.

So I resolved as a matter of principal to change tact, bunker down and try to diffuse the situation. The battle is lost, anyway; we Jurassic remnants squandered our guilt-edged chances to defend the old ways, watched them flounder on the rocks of neglect as later generations, swift as lightening, administered the coup de gras.

It’s been a hard road to hoe, but there’s no future in being a sore looser. It’s a doggie-dog world, after all, and only the foolhearty would overestimate the will of the populous. Better to give up the goat and admit defeat, rather than skunk off in high dungeon.

“Here, here,” younger readers will cry, “hosted on his own petard, the know-all finally gets his just desserts!” (I don’t normally use explanation marks, but here it seems appropriate.)

So without further adieu, let me overcome my post-dramatic stress, uncurl myself from the feeble position on my chaise lounge, cry with the hoards “Vail, standard English!”, and start to tow the line. If everyone else thinks it makes perfect scents, who am I to say it stinks?

*A point for each incidence of success, up to a possible 80. And remember, as Samuel Johnson reputedly said, “a man who would make a pun would pick a pocket”.

The Wills Massacre of white colonists by Indigenous people occurred north of modern-day Springsure in Central Queensland, Australia on 17th October 1861. Nineteen men, women and children were killed in the single largest massacre of colonists by Aboriginal people in Australian history. The Gayiri Aboriginal tribe were implicated in the massacre.
My Question is: have any modern-day aboriginals belonging to this tribe apologised for this massacre or is it only white trash that have to apologise?
After all, Melbourne City Council is to spend rate-payers money erecting a statue to two aboriginals executed for murdering two shepherds near Narre Warren just 35km from Melbourne, so I guess I know the answer.

and what a setback for reconciliation it was…

I don’t see why it should be an obstacle to them thanking us for bringing millennia of science, medicine, science, and philosophy – comprising an infinitude of hard fought victories against a resisting status quo (but hey, we don’t have to tell aborigines how crushingly mental inertia can imprison you) – things that steadily improved the human condition but which they had missed.

There is nothing to stop them from saying thanks for all the goodies, and that they will try to be less whiny and stop trying to ply its with a myth of a noble savage which was also taken from the Europeans – the virtue of pre-whitey life not being nobility, but submission (to spirits, curses, juju, hunger, tribe, clan, big men etc).

Police have launched an investigation after posters caricaturing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as Adolf Hitler were displayed along two busy roads in Sydney.

Friend (Sydney) tried to tell me this afternoon that Netanyahu was responsible for the war in Gaza. She is an otherwise lovely person – but very gullible in respect to any hard luck group in any community/society/nation. The original bleeding heart.

This required an exercise in patience. I momentarily agreed with her that Bibi’s contest with the High Court probably contributed to Hamas “seizing the moment”. However, I said, surely you have seen the pre-civilisation barbarity of the 7/10 attacks? Oh no, she replied, I couldn’t look at the photographs. I sigh……well then, how can you evaluate the Israeli response…….

People like my friend instinctively know the truth, but don’t want to have their naive world view challenged. Although I initially said “ we will have no agreement on this”….I HAD to persevere. And persevere I did. I described some of the 7/10 atrocities…….then I proceeded to expressing my disgust at the Islamist protests in Sydney & elsewhere. These people, I said, have no place in a civilised society when they espouse a second genocide of Jews.

By this stage, she knew that the ground was dissolving …& conceded that the Israeli response was justified.

In these times we must all risk friendships in affirming the rights of Israel to defend itself, and the depravity of any suggestion that the Jewish people are not among our most precious citizens.

Fer example, “high dungeon” exists because “high dudgeon” exists- and to get really Meta™, dudgeon hardly even exists on its own without the elevated qualifier. There is no low-to-medium dudgeon, per say…

Incidentally, the ALP pollster predicting Labor’s woes, Kon Samaras, also warned Albanese about the Voice wipeout and explained why it would happen and presently puts Palaszczuk’s primary vote at 26% and falling.

I take it the crowing about Dutton never being able to take Fortress Teal has dropped away to a dull murmur?

Kos Samaras is actually of the belief that the Teal seats are pretty much safe for the incumbent Teals.

He’s pointing out that the formerly safe ALP suburban seats may no longer be safe for the ALP.
& that the ALP is ahead on 2PP at 53% only because of the Greens, as the ALP primary vote has plunged to 34%

My theory is that the Liberals will win back some of the Teals, maybe not all, however I don’t think that, moving forward, the Libs should rely on winning the Teal electorates, and thus they should focus their energy elsewhere. Here’s my prediction, the Liberals win back three or four in WA alone, and electorates like Bennelong, Reid, Higgins, Aston will return to the Liberals.

Look, I’m no oracle, but Sleazy’s fortunes aren’t just falling, their sinking, a la Titanic. He’s no Howard, Hawke or Keating. He won off the back of a tired nine year Coalition government, and an inept Morrison, who stood for nothing, and capitulated on everything.

We heard about this yesterday and waited before posting. Underneath I am seething. I know there may be several reasons for poor mental health however I know some things did not help. Example A Lockdown for his last 2 years of high school, Example B a constant barrage by the lefties and weak libs on toxic masculinity and ‘safe school’ bs. These have made the modern community a hostile environment for young white men.

Only ever owned barely roadworthy shitboxes then later my Holden ute then after Toyotas. Driven plenty of diesel utes due to my work from Cruisers to Hiluxes to Patrols to Tritons and Rangers. Haven’t had a Colarado yet. Great Walls I know about from a drilling company that tried to cut costs, shudder and the drill crews hated them with good reason. Half star sounds like they haven’t changed much.

I had a bit to do with 2 straight 6’s one being the Holden 202 and my dad had a XF with the the 4.1L. I like the straight sixes, smooth. I have driven a few Holden v6’s through rental cars mainly from VR’s through to VZ. V6’s seemed to feel like they would vibrate apart when put through paces overtaking. Never been a Ford man but found their straight 6 donks pretty good. EA cylinder heads were a cock up though.

Wodney posts bullshit questions to Marty, that Marty himself makes up. Fraud all the way.

The Fan Email Confidence Trick
Many of Martin Armstrong’s blog posts start with fake manufactured fan email questions like the following in

Understanding Cycles

QUESTION: Mr. Armstrong; I met someone who used to work for you. He said your models are far more complex than anyone imagines and that it is not a simple algorithm. He said you have relied on quantum mechanics which is why nobody has been able to duplicate what you do. Would you care to comment?

PD

In the following response, Martin Armstrong sidesteps the question but confirms the complexity of his models, talks about Energy and his “Schema Frequency” without any reference to what all that means practically. Above the question, there is a video explaining Quantum Theory.

However what I can say with 100% certainty is that Martin Armstrong is not using quantum mechanics technology, and that he did not ever use it.

I have to dig a little deeper here. He uses an old confidence trick where he manufactures a fake fan email that suggests this Quantum Mechanics claim. With that, Martin Armstrong does not actually have to claim it himself, giving him perfect cover, perfect deniability. He can always say he did not claim this while at the same time scoring credits from phantom followers, creating the illusion of being trusted by his readers. In other words, it is a shill technique.

https://armstrongecmscam.blogspot.com/p/where-and-how-to-complain.html

The promise of money and then when that didn’t work, the death threat.

Martin Armstrong fully exposed the criminal nature of his business. The communication is documented in a public forum here. I am quoting him as he responds to me directly via private message:

I have hundreds of people working for me creating YouTube accounts and other social media accounts posting positive reviews and feedback. I STILL GET fresh victims daily

Maybe you should come work for me? We could really use you around here. We have many aspects to our Ponzi scheme and you will be first in line and be a part of our inner circle purely based on the influence you have online and the threat you present against my business. We always pay our people the best and keep paying them for life just so they don’t talk too much and God forbid tell the authorities…

MA

The above was his last-ditch attempt to lure me into a partnership in his business, to recruit me, and to motivate me for deleting thousands of comment messages from hundreds of his YouTube videos. After I declined, he finally issued his death threat against me as follows:

I want you DEAD! I will find out where you live trust me. I will put a contract out on your life, you don’t know who you fcuking with.

Several people reported killed when a car ploughed into an outside dining area at the Royal Hotel in Daylesford.
Unless the layout has changed it would be extremely difficult to accidentally hit that area unless you are coming down the Albert St hill and miss the right hand turn.
Even so, going straight through would miss the dining area, unless they have expanded it out onto the grassed area in front.

Spent a lovely hour and half at Celebration of the Strings organised by AUSTA at the Townsville Basket Ball Stadium. We knew a 12yo involved and went along.

Purely about the music, the head conductor Stephen Frewen Lord very passionate and enthusiastic about teaching the children. No preachy preambles nothing apart from the kids. Very refreshing and they did well, even the little ones.

One idiot had to wear a tshirt with Treaty written all over it, white dude with a Mrs who had a Yank accent. Hmmmm. I wish people would give this stuff a break, especially at a childrens event. Also we in the north in Herbert it was 76/24 to no, get over it peoples.
