if they’re coming up from behind, they’re just giving you warning.
You can’t win as a cyclist, you get abused for belling, or people jump randomly, and you get abused by others for surprising them because you didn’t use a bell.
That’s the idea. Unfortunately it is probably the best form of transport for most short trips, especially now with e-bikes.
Anne Summers – a blast from the past.
Speaking of cyclists, what’s with the impatient bell ringing when one is walking on the correct side on a shared pathway?
There are folk out there using bells .. ? .. given that most pedestrians are to wrapped up in their phones & have trouble walking in a straight line I just yell from 5 mts back .. never ever used the, compulsory, bell ….!
An insistent “Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!” says something completely different … “How dare you get in my path when I am on track for a PB!”.
The old horns that you squeeze the rubber air thing were handy back in the days of dragsters and choppers (yes I know, phrasing). A good “honk – honk” beats an effeminate ding-ding every time.
Don’t start me on mamils in packs who yell out “right side”, while one of their number dives down the left side.

Council in these parts isn’t prone to interventionism but they’ve decided cyclists should sound their bell when approaching pedestrians on parkland pathways (quite a few linear parks in this vicinity) and signs have been erected indicating such. Too many collisions, I gather. Pedestrians are advised to keep left, too.

In Japan you will be walking along and suddenly hear a discordant screech behind you – someone on a mama hair (bicycle) has just hit the brakes. That is their warning to you to get out of the way.
I believe that the point us that they do not ‘ask’ you to move by ringing the bell. They just happen to screech and you just happen to realise you are in the way. There is no personal interaction although the result is exactly the same as if there were.
There are some ‘strange’ attitudes to courtesy in Japan. I would see an old woman get on the train but she would not accept when I offered my seat. However, if instead I waited until we were near the next stop and got up and stood near the door she would take it – it was not like a favour any more. The fact I did not get off led to no awkwardness.
And Mamachari? The basic bicycle
<emeveryone owns. Cheap, no gears, light, practical – when you see scenes in Asia where there are tides of bicycles washing over streets and intersections, these are the kind of things you are looking at. The name mamachari is understood as meaning mothers bicycle, but everyone rides them – young or old, man or woman, business man or student. I even heard that the ‘chari’ part was short for ‘chariot’ which would be fun etymology but a little to alien to ordinary people – unless it was in a manga of something popular and demotic.

Depends how you define “backing.”
Their ambassador to the UN said Israel’s actions in Gaza do not constitute self-defence, “as an occupying power, it does not have such a right, which was confirmed by the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in 2004.” He then went on to claim that Israel was deliberately bombing hospitals and targeting civilians.
At the least, Russia is attempting to muddy the waters.
I find that a single ding followed by “hello I’m passing on your right”, usually gets a “morning, thank you”, reply.
Sancho, better find another obsession you have lost this one. I suggest electric scooters and skateboards that are a danger to everyone including cyclists and which are ridden by teens and 20’s morons with no sense of a code of conduct.

Where do all you folk see all these cyclists? .. I ride an average of 300kms a week (between 40 & 80 kms a trip) on cycle tracks, local streets and, occasionally, on the M4 (between Eastern Creek & Parramatta) yet most weeks can count on my fingers how many other cyclists I come across ..
The only time there were lots of cyclists around was during the lockdown(s) but they’ve all disappeared now ……….
Well, yes, this is why I characterized the headline as desperate.
A few weeks ago, either Kelly or Benson (or both) argued the lost referendum wouldn’t affect Albanese because voters differentiated one-off referenda from retail politics.
Another great call from the newspaper that rode the now cactus Ukraine goat harder than any other national newspaper in the world.
Yes they are. When someone says “Israel is an occupying power”, which is what the Russian Ambassador said to the world and everyone in the UN General Assembly, you can know that is the Kremlin position.
The hypocrisy is quite breathtaking seeing that Russia is killing lots of Ukrainians by shelling places like Kherson and attacking Kharkov with massed drones.
I think the calculation is purely geopoltical, Putin is a pragmatic guy, but that doesn’t mean it is defensible. Especially when Israel has been trying so hard to stay right away from the Ukraine mess. Z has wanted Iron Dome from the start, and Netanyahu has correctly avoided having anything to do with him. Fine reward for all that effort eh? But since Russia has come down on the terrorists’ side I would not be surprised if Israel now chooses Ukraine’s side. Enemy of my enemy and all that. I don’t think they will due to internal politics, but it would be understandable if they did.
Israel, btw, has now ceased warning Russia whenever they’re about to airstrike a target in Syria. So the IDF does know which side Russia is on.
I’m also not seeing Poot preventing rump Wagner from selling Pantsirs to the Hezbies. Which has likewise been widely reported.
Then why didn’t he do anything to back his words up with capability when he had the chance?

I said nothing about being grateful, I meant that we should use them where possible, after all we are still paying them.
I doubt the IDF much cares, since they’re using F-35s and are feeling fairly feral right now. I would not like to be a Syrian Army radar operator.
They have to dance around the issue because of their Iran relationship. Given the ambassador’s comments they are condemning Israel. Without any outright condemnation of Hamas Russia is engaging in “that’s not what we meant, not at all” diplomatic doublespeak.
It’s backing Iran so by default it’s backing those Hamarse pikers.
“Turning off their radar” is just an admission that they can’t track the F-35s and don’t want the embarrassment of their radars being blown up.

“She turned, smiled and said. “Business. I’m going to the Annual Nymphomaniacs of America Convention in Boston.”
He swallowed hard. Here was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen Sitting next to him and she was going to a meeting of nymphomaniacs!
Struggling to maintain his composure, he calmly asked. “What’s your Business at this convention?”
“Lecturer.” She responded. “I use information that I have learned from my Personal experiences to debunk some of the popular myths about sexuality.”
“Really?” He said. “And what kind of myths are there?”
“Well.” She explained. “One popular myth is that African-American men are The most well-endowed of all men, when in fact it is the Native American Indian who is most likely to possess that trait.
Another popular myth is That Frenchmen are the best lovers, when actually it is men of Mexican Descent who are the best.
I have also discovered that the lover with Absolutely the best stamina is the Southern Redneck.”
Suddenly the woman became a little uncomfortable and blushed.. “I’m Sorry.” She said, “I shouldn’t really be discussing all of this with you. I don’t even know your name.”

As I had thought would happen Russia has whipped the Dagestan Nazis with a feather and warned ’em. Warned they are!
Russian security forces re-took control of the airport on the day and about 70 people were arrested. Some were charged with simple hooliganism and received 7-10 days in jail whilst others are facing charges of rioting which is much more serious and can carry long prison terms.
What happened in Dagestan was very bad and an embarrassment to the region but it was dealt with promptly. Contrast with our country and many others where chants of “gas the Jews” and “f*ck Israel” and posters depicting kidnapped Jews being torn down or, the Star of David and the word ‘Juden’ painted on businesses owned by Jewish folk. These matters are effectively ignored by the western police services despite volumes of anti-hate legislation being available.
We (the west) haven’t exactly covered ourselves in glory over the past 3 weeks. So much so that yesterday I purchased, online, a “I stand with Israel” polo shirt that I will wear at every opportunity. I am not a Jew but I think the behavior of many in the west has been utterly shameful. So yeah, what happened in Dagestan was very poor form, but we should be looking in our own backyard.

Speaking of ARC, Jordan Peterson’s take on Hamas is that Iran has let them off the leash to spoil any progress on the Abraham Accords.
As the article says not much help if they are in tunnels.
Those Palestinian relief bags the hostage was lying on.
Apart from the likelihood hamas is confiscating food relief it is likely they are recycling the bags to remove debris from their tunnel diggings, from the appearance of the bags I saw.
Wonder how many UNHCR warehouses are used for this purpose, very handy to have a tunnel entrance in to remove your workings.

I agree we should be looking in our own backyard.
Lots of masks are being removed. That’s a thing that has been especially eyeopening. The Left has been fermenting antisemitism quietly for decades and now it’s all in the open with extremely ugly and obnoxious clarity. I hope it will red-pill a lot of people.

Interesting too, to compare hamas and Israeli propaganda.
Hamas’s ‘slick’ videos never have follow through of destroyed vehicles and dead soldiers.
Israel has the leisure, for want of a better word, to show pictures of dead terrorists in civvies but wearing military vests.
Israel have control of the ground, the air, the water and have proper military vehicles.
Hamas have cars, ambulances, tunnels, rubble and fewer and fewer human shields.
Perhaps many will melt away into the civilian population to fight another day.
I hope Israeli has DNA evidence and does a complete sampling of the population of Gaza to root out at least some of the war criminals.

Perhaps I do know a tiny bit about the subject. The Iranians and the IDF play a game – the IDF tried to prevent the Iranian foreign minister from landing recently. He had goodies with him. Thhe flight then landed in Baghdad and I suspect they had a long drive across the desert.

And there’s another question.
With 48% unemployment how does one get a job with the United Nations.
Could it be ‘jobs for the boys’?
Are United Nations employment and hamas membership mutually exclusive?
Also saw a short cartoon based on an actual interview with a female Fatah supporter who qualified as a pharmacist presumably before 2006.
Could not get a job, tried opening a private pharmacy but between special high wholesale prices for non hamas and almost daily visits from hamas goons who would destroy stock with false claims of expiry or not approved she had to close and stay home.

It’s pretty interesting if people oppose Zionism but support amongst other things, such as Pan Arab nationalism, any form of revanchist nationalism, a Catholic and united Ireland, Tibet as a concept and other states linked to an older culture intertwined with religion (India, Japan but so much of the world really), including Russia or the USA – or even Aboriginal or Amerindian homelands.
If you can also skewer the “Israel stole our land” meme, then the anti Israeli stuff has no basis.
Ironically destroying Hamas and even Gaza as a quasi state might be a necessary condition for a hitherto imminent actual (West Bank) Palestinian State.

A few cockies flew overhead, shrieking, and he promptly emitted a few shrieks of his own. Then a crow, and he dutifully caw-cawed in reply.
Then he began to do some avant garde stuff, like the sound of a dial tone on a landline, and I think a power tool of some sort.

The other day, he suggested that the 1,000 Mules movie proved beyond any doubt that the election was stolen because there were people stuffing drop-off boxes with ballots. Hang on.
I agree.
Release the hostages.
😀
I did mention sphincters, not the other word, in deference to our Blog Lord’s sensitivities.
like I say in real life, I’m just some idiot on the internet (who sells flooring systems for a living).
And you can bench press 240kilos.
“With every purchase over twenty five dollars!”
We need a typeface for that.
Kunstler Script is most condescending. And aptly named. I prefer Comic Sans.
Is it? Any examples or just mindless, low IQ assertions?
I gave you an example earlier on, you unparalleled dolt. See the comment about Hallward and Brucey teaming up.
Why the need tobe original if you keep repeating the same crap? If you continue with the same melody I’ll repeat the same drum beat.
Should I put this all in braille text for you? Would it help?
You are the condescending one Bern. Ante up or get off your porcelain throne.
He’s finishing his these on the proposition that infantry battalions, once recruited can be trained in small-arms tactics, fieldcraft and CQB entirely via Call of Duty.
Don’t cry Bruce.
It’s most unbecoming.
Dunno, but by fk he was one boring individual. Three comments straight and he could kill a blog stone dead.
You have to ask his fellow “scientifical” team-mate about his whereabouts.
I’m laughing not crying, Bern. Your attempts at debate are gloriously infantile. I love it when I challenge someone to produce and all they do is go ad hom.
The hostages are the elephant in the room with all the moralising and demands for justice.
Anyone being battered by these mouthy, opinionated shysters need only mention them to shut the buggers up. I’ve tried it. It works.
Rabbi of Newcastle.
Has a good ring to it.
Not to remind you that you were wrong (as Cassie destroyed you).
But to remind you that you couldn’t accept you were wrong.
bespoke,
nIteb Qob qaD jup ‘e’ chaw’be’ SuvwI’.
You really are sad little pedestrian, man child. With this site the your only sorce of excitement.
Are we fighting? And it’s only Monday?
Just a sec. I’ll put away the “good” glasses and roll up the Axminster.
Enuff of that.
Last week I bought some US Bank ETF for a trade and still have It. I think there could be a decent rally in finance stocks all around. The US employment number came out and it was seen as soft, which therefore makes the possibility of a dovish fed likely too.
I suspect we’re going to have a decent and enjoyable pre-Thanksgiving rally.
Please demonstrate where I was wrong, Bern.
Waiting…waiting.
W is the symbol for Tungsten in the periodic table. It comes from Wolfram, which it was once called. I know my metals, mate. That includes Heavy, death and speed metal. Metallica’s first two albums were there best.
I’d say don’t be mean now (is it really necessary?) but I’m pretty sure the meteorology guy wished death on me for being (finally) coerced into being vaccinated with Novavax. I lost a promotion out of this utter BS so anyone like that can eat crud.
Always remember the number of unwilling jabees exceeded both the normal, willing guinea pigs, the over eager goofballs, the guys willing to take 50 jabs for cash (RIP), the principled NO types and the sov – cit loonies (more likely to be spooks than cookers).
My gleeful bullying would be confined to winning a series of “small” 10k bets for sterling silver coin – 1: Australia will not have a population decline by Feb 1 2026 and 2: Trump will not be President by Feb 1 2023.
“Why would I take that bet, you’d already be dead from Novavaxxxxxxx you unfair bully of the working men with 750k of super each, I tells ya!”
Thanks P.
Grammerly?
I suggested you stay away from other people stoushing and I get this litany of bullshit. I also recall you were joining in the liz bashing in those illiterate 4 four word sentences you can’t climb over because it’s just too difficult.
The other day, he suggested that the 1,000 Mules movie proved beyond any doubt that the election was stolen because there were people stuffing drop-off boxes with ballots. While they could very well have been, he neglected to mention that in half the US states, it’s perfectly legal for people to drop off multiple ballots. Of course, we can assume that skullduggery occurred, but whether it can be proven is entirely different.
I’ve only seen 1/2 of 1000 Mules or 500 Mules but the best example of cheating was the 4 swing states which finished up counting on some phony pretext on the election night with Trump strongly ahead and when they opened again next morning he was behind.
cohenite
Trump likely won the popular and EC vote in 2016 AND 2020; the myth about 99% or 95% of blacks/La Raza voting Democrat probably has been for a long time, electoral fraud.
“Waiting…waiting.”
I’m still waiting…waiting….for you to acknowledge that Azerbaijan is majority Shia, not Sunni as you insisted.
I’m still waiting…waiting….for you to acknowledge that priest holes in Elizabethan England were constructed to hide Catholic priests, and not Protestant ministers as you insisted.
All good, Dot. I was told I’d killed my family. That was what passed for comment in October ‘21.
The last, and by then most unwilling family member to be jabbed. Foolishly promised that if something other than AZ became available, I’d do it. Hoisted, I was, and no going back. Never going to forget the lies and the urging and fearmongering.
Oof.
Come on, man!
I was genteel in comparison.
Mate, I remember going to bed and Trump was paying $1.28 on the TAB midway through counting. Then I wake up and Biden has won. That is a statistical impossibility.
I’m sure, but there’s a distinction between someone outright ballot stuffing and others collecting and then putting those ballots in a drop box. As I said, it was legal in half the states (and still is) for someone to do the latter. There was no solid proof by the vids shown in that movie they were committing fraud. Brucey reckoned it was unquestionable proof. It wasn’t.
Waiting….waiting….waiting….rawhide.
Wodger:
A lot of the ‘predictions’ here tend to beat the MSM for timeliness and accuracy.
Just sayin’.
Alarmism demolished again! Roy and John submit a paper which shows all of the modern temp increase is probably due to UHI.
I can’t wait for it be ignored by the brain dead MSM and the even more brain dead pollies.
Just to emphasize that I’m not cronkite.
Of course they cheated in 2020 and by not enough in 2016. However, the Mule movie was not definitive proof they did so.
It’s becoming clearer now, that they used several methods to cheat.
Yep. My entire family too. My children, and their children’s grandchildren!
And all their pets!
No standing, they said! Gas pipes, they said! Eight to 38 months to death!
This blog at present is the absolute height of bonhomie and good cheer compared to that shitfight.
Math = RACIST
What’s your point exactly? Are you attempting to persuade me that demons cheated? Save you keystrokes because I know they did.
“In the War of attrition that Russia is winning, Putin will take the whole of eastern Ukraine up to the Dnieper River and leave the western Ukraine to be supported and paid for by the EU and NATO. Job done and the UKR then neutralised. All IMHO of course.”
Good grief Johnny, one simply cannot communicate such ideas!
Uncle Sam is now starting to press ‘elensky, rather aggressively, for talks with the Muscovites. Problem is, if he does, those Na….., Azov chaps, will not be best pleased.
As Ukraine is obviously winning, this action by the US is clearly to protect the poor floundering Ivans. Isn’t that nice?
In other bad news, (for the clown puppet), from Camelot on the Dnieper, the head of Ukraine Special Forces was recently sacked. As the only person with the authority to do such an act, (Chief of Ukraine Defence Forces), Gen Zaluhzny received a visit from this chap, who asked him, ….”wtf?!!”
Zaluhzny replied with “WTF, I know nothing about this!??”
Evidently, ‘elensky is starting to catch on, that those goons around him, are not there to protect him, but are awaiting a “go” order. So, he wants new chaps around him.
The Minister for Defence, evidently issued the DCM to the General, without authorisation.
I think this situation, in political parlance, is called, ….., civil war.
Soon, the engravers and sign painters will be called upon for some new bosses, to fill the “upcoming” vacancies.
I’ll back Zaluhzny, because he has the most weapons at his disposal.
In the wings, ……, the new President, ……, Arestovich!
I can’t recall insisting it Cassie, but yes they seem to be about 60:40 Shia and Sunni. Which is not unexpected since they border Iran. Apology if I was wrong, I will try not to be in the future. On the other hand they did just ethnically cleanse Nagoro-Karabakh of Christian Armenians. So I suppose it doesn’t really matter what variety of muslims they are.
True, priest holes were constructed for Catholic priests. Minister holes were constructed for Anglican ministers. There is a technical difference, although I suspect the holes were interchangeable as monarchs came and went. You should read up on Bloody Mary. She was a feisty and quite firey lady.
I can see I’m going to be downticked all day.
Ah well, it is the price the male of the species has everywhere to suffer.
I am content with my terrible fate.
Cronkite
Supposedly, there’s a locked room in Maricopa county with literally thousands of ballots
1. Presented on unauthorized paper.
2. Having almost identical shaped and predictable font style to the signatures.
3. Using computerized ink.
Most likely these ballots are now cinder.
That’s not the argument in the Mule movie though.
Tom:
It’s a peculiar form of political osmosis where it takes some time for the miasma of discontent to penetrate the Canberra bubble, but penetrate it it will despite the efforts of the political class to firm up the barriers.
Stop bawling, you big freaking mary. Some of your blog pals are experts at finagling downvotes for those people they don’t like irrespective of the argument put forward. Go feed the magpie.
JC. I was just giving an historical account.
Just to emphasize that I’m not cronkite.
And don’t forget you never will be.
Thank Allah.
Endless projecting, sad.
The most dangerous encounter on the pathways is not mechanical. It is the barge arsed waddler.
These oversized beasts are usually found wobbling along four abreast across the full width of the pathway. They refuse to give way under any circumstances even when encountered head on.
Hey, my first car was a Hillman Imp. Served me very well until the brakes failed as I approached Nicholson Street, Brunswick at peak hour. A dead man’s switch would have been handy.
They’re called “hambeasts”.
Really, how’s that Helen Keller? Any examples?
Tobe or not tobe…
Oh, yeah.
The history of psychiatry is probably the least impressive branch of medicine.
That is why it was so easily attacked by people like Szasz and Laing.
It has been all over the place since Day 1. Freudians vs Jungians, lobotomies, shock treatment, all kinds of drugs – sorry, it’s a mess.
Just look at the history of the DSM (the US manual) which has created and erased ‘diagnoses’ and ‘symptoms’ and ‘treatments’ according to prevailing fashion over many decades.
I’m not saying that all pyschiatrists are useless. But, having helped to organise a conference of mainly psychiatrists, and getting to know several of them, and watching their presentations, my conclusion is that they are brainiacs who usually have no more to offer than a good priest/rabbi. counsellor or friend. Indeed, after at least ten years at university (after 13 years at school), they were about as detached from real life as it is possible to be.
People who are seriously mentally ill are a tiny minority, and delving into their relationship with Mother or with the zeitgeist is not useful. The vast, vast majority of psychiatric patients are rich people who, in previous eras, consulted their astrologers and psychics, if their priest/rabbi didn’t give the right answer.

Illegal ballots and counting is one thing but the other cheating was media silence about the bidens, especially the laptop, and the media’s lies about Trump.
And the perils of stray-rooting for single men.
I read that as “of” single men, not “for”. Got a bit worried that this blog had shifted somewhat in its attractions.
A Liars wet dream. Albo will be sporting a mongrel till da bruvvas finish him off.

The Greens have walked out of Senate question time in protest of the Albanese government’s “heartless, gutless, powerless” response to the Middle East conflict, with Senator Mehreen Faruqi yelling “free Palestine”.
Trade Minister Don Farrell, who is representing Anthony Albanese in the upper house on Monday with Senate leader Penny Wong in Beijing, said innocent civilians should not pay for the horrors perpetrated by Hamas. “The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire and human suffering is widespread. And the Australian government has consistently called for the protection of civilian lives.”
Pointless symbolism by the Greens but then…….
As for Don Farrell, he is being simplistic because he knows (or should) that Israel has a obligation to minimise the injury or death of innocent civilians in its pursuit of a proportional response to the Hamas threat. However, that obligation to not willfully or carelessly cause excessive civilian casualties does not negate or diminish Israel’s entitlement to eliminate the threat Hamas may pose ‘today’, but also the threat Hamas may pose in the future.
Thus, Israel cannot nuke Gaza because that isn’t proportional to the actual threat (now or in the likely future) posed by Hamas to the Israeli State and, the civilian losses would be grossly beyond unfortunate collateral.
HBBear:
Albo’s main problem was that he never had to endure a hostile media who would have made him realise his mistakes. Then along came a hostile electorate that the media couldn’t shield him from.
And now, the cocky rooster is being slung into the production line at the feather duster factory.
If the true result is over 10% in the swing states (for Trump), you reckon they’d have the gumption to make up enough fake ballots? I reckon the limit is around 3% to 4% before it becomes obvious.
Hey, my first car was a Hillman Imp. Served me very well until the brakes failed as I approached Nicholson Street, Brunswick at peak hour. A dead man’s switch would have been handy.
Odd little car, Megan. There are picture of them online where the wheels appear to be understeering and oversteering at either end of the car. Not a well balanced car but kind of cute in a funny way.
Modern logistics involves spending hundreds of millions on IT and systems so it can be operated by people whose last job was tending a water buffalo so it didn’t wander off.
Rubbish.
Priest holes were almost all constructed by Nicholas Owen in the homes of old Catholics who didn’t turn Anglican after death of Elizabeth and start hiding Anglican ministers.
There is zero evidence of Anglican priest holes, nor has anyone in the UK claimed they existed. In fact there’s no evidence of puritan persecution other than to rid the church of England of any Catholic influence.

With the availability of recording devices, you’d think there would be some interesting sound tracks doing the rounds.
But there’s not.
Security must be very tight at these events.
