Grid Connect is kind of half arsed and hokey but then buying the stuff for it at Bunnings for a very reasonable price is just too easy.
the other day I lost an old hard wired motion sensor that used to bring on the carport lights.
went to Bunnings and bought a Grid Connect motion floodlight for something like $60
ripped the lamps off it and just wired the motion in to control the lights
then I used the software to get the new motion sensor to also turn on the lights on the Grid Connect security camera
and I can just muck about with the settings on my phone from anywhere
actually, the front gates are connected as well as the doorbell camera on the street.
if Im not home and get a delivery and the driver rings the bell then I can chit-chit with him and open the gates via the phone
kinda cool for not many bucks

Sydney airport can be hit and miss but I have to admit(grudgingly) that it is better on average than it used to be. Certainly the customs process is more sensible than in days of yore.

the Michael Smith clip of the UNZUD coppers you linked to was great. If you go through the comments, others have posted more info. The smirking turd that was tackled, had thrown a bottle at the copper earlier and then ran away, of course.

I haven’t cleared customs in a first world country in nearly 20 years and that was the US which was fairly uneventful. Front up to counter passport., stamp that was about it apart from what are you here for & how long are you staying small talk.
Recently though on my last transit through Singapore even they are pushing the automated process. Same Bangkok. Even in Aus I still line up for the old school check through. Old habits die hard and I still prefer the personalised service like the welcome back home I got from the customs agent on my last trip in through Melbourne in January.

All aboard! After the endless security lines to have baggage checked, our persons manhandled for possible contraband/weapons/joint replacements, we stumble to our seats.
As we’re travelling pointy end, we see the pantomime unfold. An officious official delivers the manifest. Done. A glance at said manifest reveals…disaster! The printer has no ink. The manifest is blank. Scurrying in style, a fresh one is produced. Meanwhile, busy airport and all, the window for departure has closed.
Forget opening a new one. In all the hurly burly, the aircraft tractor is MIA!
Twenty minutes later, we are airborne.
Ahhh. Amsterdam.

Schiphol is 3m below sea level. Apparently that doesn’t faze Dutch people, maybe they use aeronautical submarines. It’s a mystery how the airport works. I wonder how they do it? We should ask a climate scientist.

Unless their C&C has above ground operational comms and surveillance infrastructure, it will be isolated. It wont be operational. Most will be destroyed in short order. They can be safe and isolated in their bunkers, Harmless.
Separate the bunker dwellers from their above ground comms infrastructure and they become spectators at best.
The US has been scrutinizing Iran from space for decades. Most of their air defense sites will be mapped. Again, they have to have above ground comms to be effective and those will be seriously compromised early. Some will cause problems yes but not to the extent you are proposing.
Without doubt. But what matters is what lethality can Iran deploy or project to be a real threat to the US. I can’t see anything to seriously trouble the US. Which is why I expect Iran will sit this out.
In the scenario I’m describing, Iran would have to initiate an attack to get the US seriously involved. I don’t see that happening.

Over the years I’ve been through most of the European, US and Asian airports at various times.
Used to fly internally in China when the main/almost only airline was CAAC.
It was miserable.
They used to have the old clapperboard type boards with flight numbers and times on them. The time for your flight would come, then go and after some interval (usually 1 to several hours later) the board would start flicking through the permutations and you’d watch it like one of those TV quiz shows where they announce what prize the contestant had won.

Yeah, Sydney airport is always traumatic even when it has improved as much as it has.
You are always out of your head when you arrive so looking for insult is a natural response.
Travelling with a commercial amount of bags, I was always done over by Customs. I didn’t enjoy it but except for the occasional fascist it was bearable.
But, on one occasion I arrived with a huge load of bags including the Company’s new idiotic framed promotion posters. I was touchy.
Karen at the Customs embarrassment bench looked me in the eye and announced, “Sir I have a very serious matter that I need to disuss with you”. Oh shit! “Do you realise that it is 41 degrees outside and you are wearing a coat?”
Kissing her would have led to a life sentence, but it was a nice experience to encounter Aussie humour even at the Customs screw you counter.
She’s got the moves. But why do they have to spoil the video by having the prancing poofs in there? My theory is that the producers are trying to turn blokes gay. They give you a pretty girl to watch and sneak in a couple of poofs too, in the hope that they’ll turn you on by association.

IIRC he first got in on SFL preferences in the inner city seat of Melbourne that had been a liars stronghold for ever. The West is collapsing because its religious foundations have collapsed. The decline in Christianity across the West has led to a moral collapse, we are now living in a post-Christian West which will not be able to fight the rise of Islam. To fight evil, people have to believe in something, in something good.
People, including many here, need to start going back to church, even the atheists and agnostics here. Okay, you don’t have to believe in everything the church might spruik and preach but religious tenets, religious belief and religious rituals can provide a moral framework for people. They are a bulwark, a rampart, a fence, a force field. Because Judaism is not a proselytising religion, I’m loathe encouraging anyone to follow/adhere to any religion. But the events of 7 October and the aftermath of those events have confirmed to me many things I’ve been thinking about for many years. This war between Israel and Hamas IS a religious war. It is the beginning.
Jews need Christians and Christians need Jews. People need to go to church again.

Schiphol airport, terrible memories I’ve told here from the days of the 1991 Bush Ultimatum. Never forgotten inhumanity by KLM towards parents with two young children (us) and two old ladies, all struggling with luggage at 2am after returned from attempting to transit Southern Saudi Arabia when Desert Storm was unleashed.
Recent flight memories too of transiting in ropey Bus Class in late October this year with Royal Jordanian in a broken-down old crate of a pre-loved plane along the border of Israel and Jordan, one eye open for rogue rockets, the other on the seat-bet sign during rogue turbulance, and the failed latched pilots’ door flying open on, thankfully, landing in Jordan’s Oman airport. Better flight from Royal Jordanian on the Dreamliner trip from Oman to Thailand; Royal Crown on the nifty BC cabin comfort bag, keeping that one, and lovely bedding for visiting dreamland.
Speaking of bedding, yes, their beds are comfortable and the rooms are OK though not a steal at over $300 a nite for something quite basic. Location, location, location though. Totally agree. Church is good for anyone. I went as a teen to avoid the Welfare, and I took my kids when I was a single mum, to let them see something their father wouldn’t show them.
Hairy, the great atheist, becomes agnostic at Christmas and has been known to disappear late Christmas Eve to attend a church somewhere. Our children both went to Church schools.

People need to go to church again.
Why go to Church when they are hypocrites.
I remember as a young boy. I came out of the Church at age 7 or something like that. and there was my Nan rubbishing everyone else outside the Church, And smoking like a chimney. What Adults (or A Dolts as I called them then) don’t know is that children hear everything. And I was appalled at my own Nan running down everyone and pretending to be a part of the church community. Hello Vicar and all that BS.
And from that moment on I said, “Is if that is how the Church is, then it is not for me.” And my Grand Dad was the bell ringer as well at the time BTW.
I have remained, not religious ever since,
I’ve visited Malaysia, on business and holiday, a number of times in the past thirty years. There are warnings on the immigration forms you sign, on the aircraft, warning of the penalties for drug smuggling…
We always stay at Rydges for an early morning flight to avoid getting up too early and being caught in morning traffic and risk missing the flight. We take a taxi home though, want to get to our own bed at last.
Bedtime here now for me. In keeping with the zeitgeist of the times, we have been watching Band of Brothers – a rewatch for Hairy – and I find it quite distressing. Only one episode a nite, I say. I can’t take more.

Quite so. It was the hypocrisy and dishonesty that shocked me as a seven year old. I didn’t want the company then, and I still don’t. Sorry Cassie, I’d be glad to see Christianity come back in many ways, but it’s too late. Look at the people at the top; the pope, the archbishop of Canterbury. I’m not going to give them any support, they are ghastly creeps.
Thanks Lizzie, I’ve been in and out of Sydney for most of this year.
I try not to worry about the shortcomings of fellow church goers. After all, the disciples were disappointing in lots of ways, and it’s Christ we follow, not the local gossip. Concentrate on Him. And remove that log in your own eye.

My first entry to Thailand was through Don Mueang Airport, I remember walking down the stairs to the baggage claim after clearing customs and on the wall of the arrivals hall was written, The penalty for trafficking drugs in Thailand is death.
The Prison I mentioned today when in KL had murals with nooses painted on the walls stating exactly the same for Malaysia.
My last trip to Singapore where I cleared customs was just before COVID, I still have the stub off my arrivals card that has exactly the same warning bolded in capital and red for Singapore. I actually saw a lady screaming and pleading for help with 6 SG border guards carrying her through Changi’s check in hall the night Qantas grounded it’s aircraft because I’d say was she was caught with drugs.
People may not agree with their approach but Asian countries are very open on the consequences of being a drug mule. Trifle with at own risk.
Bruce, what has this got to do with the discussion? Makka was saying the US was going to overwhelm Iranian C&C with masses of cruise missile strikes. I was disabusing him of this notion (or, at least, attempting to). If the US thinks it can win a war against Iran by bombing it into submission, it is deeply mistaken. The Iranian navy was neither here nor there in the conversation.
That’d be Pudu Jail (I presume)
That’s the big one right in the middle of town?
Quite an imposing sight, for the sheer acreage it covers, as well as the spartan look of the place.
That’s where Barlow & Chambers had their necks stretched (& lotsa lotsa others before them)
At seven years I was intelligent enough to know that if some people are hypocrits then anything they say is false. I also understood that if some people misunderstand Einstein’s theories of gravity then gravity can’t possibly exist. In all my life since age seven years has not altered in any way my understanding of the cosmos. My understanding of the universe is proudly infantile.

If it was discovered that the leading mathematicians in the world were corrupt or even are paedophiles that would convince me that 2 + 2 doesn’t necessarily equal 4.

I’m with Dr BG on this.
If what you imply about the congregation and by therefore the church hierarchy, I’d rather stay out of organised religion.
If God is everywhere then one can worship in his/her own way.
I’m not actually an atheist, having some doubts about the creation of the universe and everything.
On the other hand, what took God so long and where was he before he created the whole shebang?
At last, you’re reading one that’s on my office bookshelf!
Bought it a few years ago at the second hand bookshop in Charlotte Street, Brisbane, (just down from the 24-hr pancake place in the old church) Archives Fine Books (I think is the name)
The design & colours of the dustjacket caught my eye, then a quick look said “this’ll have a perspective I’ll want to read one of these days” & put it on the pile.
It’s quite a bookshop, sort of like walking into the library at Hogwarts, but without the airiness or elbow room. There’s a phenomenal selection of books in there.
You’re not too hot on English comprehension either.
I’ve never supposed that the Christian religion is false on the grounds that many leaders and some adherents are immoral turds. I just don’t want their company. Gabor’s position, pretty much.
Some Christians and Jews are fine people. I’ve known lots I like and respect. That doesn’t constitute proof that their beliefs are true. In fact they differ, so they can’t all be true.

There are only a few things more frightening than a frenzied mob.
How on earth can you negotiate with these people?
Operation Pandora was a 1970s Russian (KGB) operation to instigate race wars within the USA by infiltrating the KKK, Black panthers, and other groups.
https://youtu.be/M7hQhzNqHaM?t=778
The operation was busted by the CIA in the early 1980s.
Should we believe Russia never tried anything like it ever again… not even in 2019?
Nor here in Australia?
NRO’s Andrew McCarthy gives an excellent account how Hamarse is American made

Jeez, the infiltration has been going on since the 80’s bending its way through American universities.
The jihadists managed to give the appearance of social justice, which is why the leftwing is behind it.
“God time” and the way we measure time may be very different.
Great clip. Very clever.

Bother. Jet lag again, wide awake at 3am.
On religion, Christianity particularly, I wouldn’t be basing any decision making on the organisation’s less-than-perfect “employees”. I’d be more interested in the business model and the character of the owner. And, of course, what benefits there were for me should I “buy”.
I’m hardly going to forgo life-saving medications on the basis that there is only one chemist in town and I don’t much like his attitude.
CS Lewis, can’t remember if it was in Screwtape or one of his other books, described church going rather amusingly. You’re bundled together in a draughty building saying and singing and doing strange things with people you don’t like very much. Your neighbour with the clicking dentures and hairpiece, the female family tyrant, the braying intellectual imbecile. But there it is – you’re commanded to do it. To worship and to humble yourself. The commands don’t come from the Rev or the Priest. They come from Higher Up, and you ignore them at your peril.
Thanks Tom. Scroll down for the 72 virgins dating service.
Wrote a lengthy post about organised religion in reply to calli’s post, unusual for me as I like to keep it short and simple.
For once, I reread my post and decided to dump it.
Best not to get involved in religious matters.
With a few minutes hindsight, Dover delete my last comment please, pretty please.
It seems pretty pointless, looks like “look at me”.

How can you trust them?
Seen the previous link to the West bank execution, calling them animals is elevating them to an undeserved level.
Further to WIP’s Clint Eastwood meme…my other favourite.

Something I haven’t noticed much as a lifelong church goer: hypocritical and dishonest Christians standing around after a service gabbing on about others.
Here’s the Liberal twat who did the welcome to country at the Liberal Party Conference.
I have Jorge, particularly when I was younger and church-going was a social obligation for the “upright” amongst the North Shore-ese. Which is understandable, as behaviour conforms with motives. Thankfully it was rare, and dwindled away along with attendance.
That’s why I’ve never been interested in numbers for numbers’ sake. Better a humble, obedient, loving congregation than a swollen empire of fakes.
As for religious arguments, I’ll leave that to better people than me. I could never even convince my dergs to “sit”, so I’m hardly going to persuade anyone to faith. 🙂
Thank you.
Opps, thanks to Pogria, that woman is a dimwit, what was she thinking?
Trump’s poll numbers continue to rise as more people realise that he’s their last best hope.
But Alexander Markovsky catalogues the deterioration so far, and asks if US democracy is so far down the drain that it can be saved or is worth saving. The damage done by Obama and others is extreme.
He poses the question: Indeed, is there anything left of our democracy that needs to be “jealously guarded and courageously defended?” Therefore, the issue is not whether Trump may destroy democracy in America; the tragedy is that he is trying to save the country that no longer exists.
