Sydney is fine so long as you don’t try and go anywhere.

Much like Melbourne in my experience.

Hence the advent of the “15 minute city.”

If Borges was a Falklands sheep grazier rather than a cosmopolitan intellectual he would most likely have weighed up the significance of the matter quite differently.

Recently a preacher in the USA argued that the Rapture was delayed because people weren’t giving enough to his church. To state the obvious with an in your face name, I have to give Creflo A. Dollar credit for being out there on what so much of modern USA evangelical Christianity is about.

Monty, reflect that the 2,000th anniversary of the Crucifixion is in only a few years time. It’s a fun datum that no one ever seems to mention or discuss. Not fashionable these days. I ain’t into numerology though, I’ll leave that to my JW friends (they don’t like Deut 7:9).

On the other hand the way the Left is going lately it will disappear up its own cloaca long before then. Plus the AI people seem to think a singularity is going to arrive soon.

It is popular to compare the current Labor incompetents to Whitlam’s outfit. But even the Whitlam clowns cannot be negatively compared to the grey collection of failed nasty ageing school teachers, barely literate union goons, perverts and racists and commos that make up Albanese’s nasty collection of perpetrual adolescents.
Sure, they were hopeless but generally not terrorists. There is nobody in the current grease trap Government who could compare to the likes of raconter Fred Daly, loveable larrikin but based Mick Young, union stooge but based Simon Crean, kingmaker crook Richardson, niave but probably reasonable Beazley.
If nothing else, they could be amusing and some of them had actually had jobs outside of the public service.

Random post for the various military history buffs here.

I have in my possession a book titled A Man Called Stan which seems to be a family memoir of a West Australian cyclist.

Arthur Stanley Gurney was killed in action at Tel-El-Eisa in 1942 fighting for the 2/48th battalion. He was posthumously awarded the VC for the heroism that got him killed.

I was amused by a diary entry from September 15th 1941:

The nearest I can tell you about where I am is I’m somewhere in Libya and on what little I’ve seen of it I don’t reckon it’s worth arguing about let alone fighting for.

Not much has changed then.

I am having a massive clean out of my bookshelves, if anyone here would like to add it to their collection I am happy to post it to you. Otherwise it is headed to the Salvos or the local street library.

Don’t all put your hands up at once.

Much like Melbourne in my experience.

In my 2 years in Melbourne I thought it was more like London -the surrounding few suburbs behaved like a village. Never really got that vibe in Sydney but will add the caveat that I never lived there. Melbourne has its disasters – Chapel St on weekends, Punt Rd if there is a game at the MCG, parking around St Kilda on weekends. Most of the time it wasn’t too bad. Sydney would drive you nuts trying to go 2 suburbs across most days.

I’ll give it six months, if that (the Hun):

Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s partner Pip Loth has paid tribute to the singer as “an incredible woman”.

Background – Ms Bassingthwaighte was previously a really decent looking woman. I believe she – like so many others – got her start in one of the cereal box 5.30 p.m. soapies, but I can’t remember which once. Because I never watched them. Also, she was lead vocals for a band at some point.

Hubby, two kids. Then not only lathered herself in botox but dug under the fence, and got on the other bus as well. Ms Loth is (technically, I believe) also a woman.

Just a few days after stepping out together publicly together for the first time, stage manager Loth

‘Stage manager’. Righto.

posted on Monday with a picture of the couple.

“Appreciation post for the most incredible woman who is not only giving me strength, support, love and immense joy, but is teaching me to understand and accept that I am deserving of these things and have them within myself too.

“She’s teaching me to breathe deeply, to trust and to be my truest self. I am so incredibly lucky and overwhelmingly grateful for you @natbassingthwaighte.”

Yes. Very profound.

Bassingthwaighte now looks like an over-inflated pinata, and Loth has the visage and style of Alfred E. Neuman. In short, NatBass left a bloke for an uglier bloke.

This will go the way of every single AFLW ‘romance’, which is being crushed in the Death Star garbage compactor.

One major problem with Melbourne traffic is big build snarling the inner city in general but the inner west in particular.
Took me well over an hour to get to the Melbourne museum from the west, and then an hour twenty to get grandchildren home even though I left at 3pm and wasn’t foolish enough to try using Latrobe St.
Going back west I saw Douglas parade was banked up from near Newport power station to Hyde Street.
Delayed heading home til 6.30, still took me an hour and a half.
If only we had an East west link.
Zipping around local suburbs though, no problem.

One major problem with Melbourne traffic is big build snarling the inner city in general but the inner west in particular.

Something the cancelled tunnel would have partly rectified. Getting from the bottom of the Tulla past the zoo and Royal park then through Carlton/Fitzroy to Eastern Freeway was a nightmare even when I chose to fly in outside peak hour to see family in the eastern suburbs. In the end it was quicker to head up thorough Greenborough down the Western Ring Rd to the airport. Don’t know if that’s still the case, most family in Melbourne has sold up and left, I only have rural relatives now.

If Dans corruption was bad enough the fact they just tore up the contract after all the prep work like geotech had been done and it was a go needs a Royal Commission with ability to lay charges. Presutto isn’t that man and will be beaten by Allen in 2026 if still there.

And very worried about gazans telling idf where their hidey holes are.

Israel reviewing hostages list, Hamas also reportedly questioning deal term

Since a ceasefire started on Friday, 39 Israeli children and women were released, plus 24 hostages negotiated out of captivity as part of external deals

As a truce between Israel and Hamas entered its fourth and final day, which allowed the release of Israeli children and women hostages held by the terrorist organization to be released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and the entry of emergency aid into Gaza, there are talks for an extension.

On the night between Sunday to Monday, the terrorist organization Hamas said in a statement that it “seeks to extend the truce beyond its four days” with the aim of “increasing the number of prisoners released” as provided for in the agreement.

Since a ceasefire started on Friday, 39 Israeli children and women were released, plus 24 hostages negotiated out of captivity as part of external deals, including mostly Thai nationals working or studying in Israel, as well as a Philippines nationals and a Russian with dual citizenship.

As part of the deal, 117 Palestinian prisoners were exchanged at a ratio of one hostage to three prisoners. Now, a provision of the agreement could allow its renewal to release daily around ten hostages from the grips of Hamas in exchange for thirty prisoners.

Elon Musk tours Kibbutz Kfar Aza with PM Netanyahu to see Hamas atrocities firsthand

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu toured Kibbutz Kfar Aza with Elon Musk, the richest person in the world and owner of the X social media platform.

Musk was shown first-hand the actions of the terrorist organization Hamas, during the October 7 massacres.

Netanyahu and Musk are expected to have a conversation that will be broadcast live on X (formerly Twitter), according to Ynet.

Hamas threatens collaborators that reveal locations of its operatives

“We warn everyone who dares to try to track down the resistance in general, and we warn in particular against asking about the wounded,” Hamas said in a statement.

“After following up, we found several people trying to find out the whereabouts of the wounded Mujahideen, and here we assure you that after this statement and warning we will not have another statement. Rather, we will have to deal on the ground with everyone who tries to track down the mujahideen, especially the wounded,” the terrorist organization threatened in the statement.

Little did I know that in 1978 (I migrated here in 1976 before Junior Cretin knew about me. LOL) while driving from Canberra to Perth I drove past this ‘Iron Knob’ in SA and there it was. But it was only half a knob as half the place had been mined out. LOL.

It’s a funny old world.

The word has no clear definition so spare me the No True Scotsman game. People like Dollar believe in a risen Christ etc, are not Catholic, and actively preach the gospel. That’s evangelical enough for me and most commentators regard the modern USA Christian conservatives who back right wing politics as evangelicals.

The greatest evangelist of all time was Herbert W Armstrong and the Radio Church of God. I used to listen to him when I was a kid. I can still hear his voice. What about evangelical Catholics and Anglicans?

Historically it was a reference to Protestants. In modern discussion “evangelical” includes a huge range of Christians and is often used in reference to Protestant Christians in the USA. I prefer the usage as indicating belief in the risen Christ and the bible as divinely inspired; which includes Catholics but most of the time Catholics are not termed as evangelical. Dollar and Co disgust me because the prosperity gospel they preach is just a masquerade for greed but I have no reason to think they don’t believe in a risen Christ.

Instagram’s algorithm delivers a toxic video mix to adults who follow children.

Instagram’s Reels is designed to show users streams of short videos on topics the system decides will interest them, and it does so even for users its algorithm decides might have a prurient interest in children, testing by The Wall Street Journal showed. WSJ’s Jeff Horwitz and Katherine Blunt investigate the content that the Meta-owned video service served to test accounts that followed only young gymnasts and other teens, which included risqué footage of children, overtly sexual adult videos and ads from major brands.

Jonathan Conricus interview yesterday emphasised that for the ceasefire to hold hamas needed to return 10 live hostages a day.

All the leftie voting Jews are like that. Behind the pace. Seeing what they want to see, rather than the ugliness that is actually there.

It’s hard for people to arrive at the realisation the place that held your belief system is a rancid pile of turd and don’t want you there. It’s actually sad for them because the psychological beat up is really harsh. The letter shows this.

To be fair it would almost be impossible to aid a Jewish hostage, as soon as hamas found out, it would be a death sentence.

Gotta laff if it weren’t so serious! .. Qatar hosting and chairing ongoing mediation over hostages between Israel & HAMAS.

Had he left that part unsaid it would have been a lot clearer that they are just despicable.

Any explanation gives STC and their actors a point for them to dispute, or at least to discuss to their own satisfaction. Silent departure leaves them with nothing.

Your super is getting net zeroed.

Billions of Dollars of Aussie Retirement Funds to be Gambled on Britain’s Failing Net Zero Push (26 Nov)

The behemoth Australian fund IFM Investors will sink £10bn (A$19bn) into infrastructure and energy transition projects in Britain by 2027 as part of a new memorandum of understanding with the Sunak government.

The decision by IFM – which is owned by 17 Australian industry super funds – comes as a coalition of business and environmental groups calls on the Albanese government to supercharge tax and other financial incentives to ensure Australia can attract sufficient capital to drive the domestic transition to net zero emissions.

That’s the trouble when the Left gets control of money, it’s always squandered. Dumb enough to invest in Australian green rubbish, but to invest in UK greenery just before the most leftwing Labour government ever takes power is completely suicidal.

Some hamas persin (some UK based Pakistani who pretends to be a woman called Maree Campbell?) on twitter went nuts because Ohad Munder’s first meal, as requested by him was schnitzel and potato, and crapped on how he would prefer to be still eating the ‘season’ food of Gaza.
The same idiot unmasked himself back in April when he forgot he’d posted using his sock account and replied to a question regarding his LinkedIn account using his real Id.

Patrick Carlyon:

He’s just another bloke at the barbecue. Looks smart. Friendly enough. He’s wearing a hot button political issue t-shirt. But he’s easy to overlook, too.

Watch him more closely. He follows the chatter, but naturally shies from leading it. When he takes the floor, or rather the floor seems to find him, he doesn’t command attention.

When someone says they like steak, and someone else says they prefer chicken, he agrees with both of them, in such a balanced blandness that no one remembers what he thinks at all.

Let’s give this barbecue guest a name. Let’s call him Anthony. Anthony Albanese. Indeed, as it turns out, he’s also the barbecue host.

He promised his special potato salad, then forgot the potato. The lettuce was limp. He threw all the meat on the grill at once, got distracted by his Spotify playlist, and turned the pieces of meat only after they caught fire.

Imagine this gathering has gone on for about 18 months. Anthony, or Albo to his mates, is still trying to say and do the right things, to offend as few guests as he can, even those who have turned decidedly feral.

He hasn’t said much since he greeted the guests on arrival with a promise “to find common ground where together we can plant our dreams”.

He hoped to talk about subjects that his guests, loaded with their mortgages and power bills, did not want.

The one time he did speak out, he found the crowd got bored, perhaps irritated, by the virulence of his momentary conviction. And so he shrunk into the background, to nurse another light beer from the esky.

Some of the guests, who have forgotten why they turned up, assume that he has passed out in the corner, that his close mates are speaking on his behalf, even though they seem to disagree with one another.

Which is fine when you’re at a barbecue, even when it’s your barbecue. But the chameleon stylings are not so good when you’re leading the country. When history has smacked you over the head, and you seem concussed by the blow.

Jewish people understandably feel disappointed by Albanese and his government. Their kids don’t feel safe at school or at university, and Albanese doesn’t seem to get the depth of their concerns. As another columnist has put it, their people have been violated, and now they must endure shows of support for the violators.

Protests against the Israeli cause routinely slide into anti-Semitism. Albanese seems reluctant to address the disquiet. He speaks of Islamophobia in calling for calm, but no one can see any Islamophobia. He offers lots of hand wringing, but little conviction.

He spoke last week, at a Jewish function, and even said some of the “right” things. But it seemed belated. He spoke like someone looking over his shoulder.

How he said it seemed to count for more than what he said. And the exercise served to remind the cynics – that sometimes what Albanese fails to say resonates more loudly than what he does.

The radical Palestinian bloc, meanwhile, trolls his social media accounts. They seem inflamed by his verbal impotence.

The Greens were last week labelled the most racist of political parties for their dogmatic pursuit of a Palestine “from the river to the sea”. They, too, feel emboldened to snipe at Albanese. He’s an easy target. Bit of this, bit of that. He droops in support and sags in condemnation. It’s hard to know what matters most to Albanese.

He once spoke of “the opportunity to shape change, rather than be shaped by it”. We’ve had hateful rhetoric, mooted boycotts and brazen threats since October 7. Being in charge and all, he might be well-placed to shape such unprecedented change. Instead, he reacts to it.

Albanese seems passive to these rather unfortunate swings of attitude. He looks to be buffeted by the breeze instead of seeking to steer its power. He has offered no speech, or even a turn of phrase, that cuts through the din.

Is he modelling Nero? This seems more likely than Bob Hawke or John Howard, who both instinctively knew that uncertainty was best combated with strength.

Or is he the incredible shrinking man? It’s hard to know really. Certainly, he plays at being the spectator better than the statesman.

Has Albanese’s barbecue run out of gas? And if no one can find the host, is it because the guests have given up looking for him?

Good Lord. Clare O’Neill is about as useful as a waterproof teabag. Clare Armstrong reporting:

A released immigration detainee who refused a mandatory electronic tracker was uncontactable to police and at large in the community as Labor refused to reveal any details about the case.

In the latest saga of the High Court headache that has caught the federal government off guard, Australian Border Force (ABF) Commissioner Michael Outram on Monday revealed the uncontactable detainee had been referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP).

There are also questions over Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil’s initial claims to have received operational advice indicating the government would win the case and be able to keep the non-citizens detained.

Emails instead show Labor was desperately trying get the US State Department to resettle the Rohingya child sex offender, known as NZYQ, in order to prevent his case setting a broader precedent.

This prompted Ms O’Neil to later say her department had been “preparing for the loss for some time”.

The government committed to mandatory electronic monitoring of the released detainees, but already four of the 141 non-citizens released since the November 8 ruling have refused.

They are now under AFP investigation, with one not able to be contacted by authorities when Mr Outram addressed the media at 9am on Monday.

Eleven hours after Mr Outram said authorities were “still making attempts” to contact the detainee, Labor and law enforcement agencies refused to confirm if those efforts were successful.

Mr Outram said the four who had refused ankle monitors were “lower risk”.

Coalition home affairs spokesman James Paterson said the uncontactable detainee “appears to have absconded”.

“The serious risk this poses to the community is utterly unacceptable and continues Labor’s shambolic response to the High Court decision,” he said.

No information about the detainee, their suspected whereabouts, criminal history or description would be provided when questions were put to Immigration Minister Andrew Giles.

The minister’s office did not answer and referred the questions to the ABF and AFP.

An ABF spokesperson said the four individuals subject to “noncompliance” with the mandatory electronic monitoring had been referred to the AFP for “appropriate action”.

“For those not fitted with an electronic surveillance device, the ABF and AFP will work with the states and territories to ensure appropriate steps are taken to protect community safety,” they said.

The spokesperson said it would “not be appropriate” to comment further as the investigation into the four detainees was ongoing, and for “privacy reasons” the ABF and the Department “do not comment on individual cases”.

The AFP declined to comment.

In another twist in the case, the Coalition joined forces with the Greens late on Monday to vote against criminalising the emergency controls imposed on the released detainees earlier this month.

The Opposition backflip was attributed to the late breaking news from the High Court that it would be publishing the full reasoning behind the decision that lead to the release of the detainees on Tuesday.

In safe hands. FMD.
