Keep in mind, the study I looked at didn’t even consider word order.

Scoring was carried out in the following manner: If the participant correctly typed a word in the sentence, then that word was scored as “correct.” The proportion of words correct was scored across sentences. For the sentence “Is your sister in school,” if the participant typed in “Is the…” only the word “Is” would be scored as correct. In this example, one out of five words would be correct, making the proportion correct?=?1?5?=?0.20. Word order was not a critical criterion for a word to be scored as accurate. However, upon inspection of the data, participants almost never switched word order in their responses. Subject responses were manually corrected for any misspellings.

So if at best you get 30% of the data in any order, well, this is ridiculous, never mind the cadence.

“Time that I (mumble) go and whack (mumble) prick off”

There is no way he could have known Higgins didn’t see a doctor immediately afterwards in which case, if she had (and they had indeed had sex), he would already be rotting in prison.

Unless he likes taking risks …

But yeah, there could be all kinds of evidence (DNA in office, camera(s), doctor, …) that would convict him which he could not be sure about.

I agree, there was no sex.
Starting off with no sex then being hit with evidence of sex is a a sure fire way to a prison cell.
In this day and age someone with a modicum of awareness would assume there would be evidence of sex and go straight to consensual.

The most egregious aspect of the whole sordid Higgins political conspiracy was the ABC (as always) setting her up at the NPC with Tame.

Due process?

The criminal political aspects of the scam far outweigh any he said/she said sexual nonsense but they tare being buried. Encouragingly, Labor remain very exposed and if Reynolds can maintain the rage there may yet be results.

There is so much information of potential historical interest waiting in the various archives to be examined. The digitalisation of records has very much helped me access sources I would not otherwise have had the finances to view.

I helped with the digitisation of the First World War Embarkation Roll. Around 11,000 scanned pages had to be checked against the originals. Since the originals varied in quality from excellent to abysmal, it was a tedious but rewarding task.

‘You can’t trust them’: ABC credibility has ‘plummeted’ in recent years
19 hours ago
Former Victorian Liberal president Michael Kroger says the ABC is a “disaster” and “no longer trusted”.

ABC Radio National’s flagship news program RN Breakfast has lost a third of its audience since Fran Kelly’s departure two years ago, according to The Australian.

“No Liberal voter in this country, apart from a very small group, trusts the ABC,” he told Sky News contributor Steve Price.

“Trust in the national broadcaster has plummeted in recent years.

“You can’t trust them.”

Toss-up! Victorian Liberals, or the ABC, public trust levels?

Jumped, not pushed (the NT Independent):

Chief Minister Natasha Fyles has resigned following the NT Independent revealing her secret shareholdings in the company that runs the Groote Eylandt manganese mine, which she refused as Health Minister to investigate earlier this year after health issues suspected to be related to the mine were raised by Indigenous Territorians.

The only actual job Fyles has ever had was being a swimming coach for children.

Ms Fyles told the public last month that she had declared all conflicts of interest and shareholdings on her public register, however the NT Independent viewed copies of the South32 share register last week that showed she had 754 shares in the company worth less than $2500 that she had not publicly disclosed, breaching various rules for politicians.

Fyles wasn’t malicious in the mold of her predecessor Michael Gunner (think of a C Grade Daniel Andrews), but just clueless. She was another member of the NT Parliamentary coven of bored housewives who equated length of service as an MP/MLA with competence.

They were coming for her in any event. Two weeks ago it broke that one of her chief advisors was heavily connected with an offshore mining concern, which Fyles – absolutely coincidentally, apparently – also held shares in, and which she also failed to declare.

A shitshow of the first order.

So what you’re saying is that the oil market is just hoping and planning for the best.

No. It is difficult to capture all information, likely impossible for an individual human. That’s what prices do.

That said, all firms can do is have a shot. They can’t cover all possible contingencies. A producer never knows when a rival will make a massive discovery. Further upstream it is more entrepreneurial. If people knew where oil (or gold, or water) was, then the value of each producable tenement would be priced like commercial property, not remote waste land (the dry/duster holes).

2 Very Fat (Knickerless?) Porkers leave the Country with Australian Labor Taxpayers Gift wearing White

What are the chances this will be the last publicity stunt from David Sharaz and his latest fiancé Brittany Higgins?

Brittany and David flew out for a life in France today – to live in the little French home the Australian taxpayer financed.

Remarkably, there was a photographic agency there to capture it all to sell to the newspapers.

Ms Higgins, her parents Kelly and Matthew, and Mr Sharaz all wore white outfits at the airport — the women’s suffragette colour, which Ms Higgins wore at the Women’s March for Justice in March.

Inflation Forces Head Of Turkish Central Bank To Move Back In With Her Parents

With inflation making the focus of the American electorate going into an election year, calls for the heads of central bankers reverberate from the nation’s political discourse now more than ever.

While the central bankers of the Federal Reserve have rightfully been cast into a villainous light for their excessive avarice, the new head of Turkey’s central bank is far from the Palatine Hill her American counterparts look down on the masses from.

Due to even more rampant inflation Governor of the Central Bank of Turkey Hafize Gaye Erkan has been forced to move back in with her parents.

The 44-year-old Erkan took up her post in June following two decades in the United States where she honed her career trajectory at some of the world’s most reviled — err, renowned — financial firms.

Erkan previously worked at the likes of Goldman Sachs and First Republic Bank.

Upon returning to her homeland, she now finds herself on the other side of the economic upheaval enveloping markers across the world.

Based on the most recent available economic data, YoY inflation in Turkey for November stood at 61%.

As disastrous as that metric is, there’s not much of a light at the end of the tunnel for Turks with economics forecasting inflation to rise as much as 75% YoY by May 2024.

This downward spiral has ushered in a series of rate hikes, the latest of which saw the Turkish Central Bank increase its main interest rate to 40% in November following a previous 35% rate hike made in October.

Despite this effort to tame in inflation, even Erkan can’t seem to escape the rising costs that have drastically diminished the quality of life for her Turkish compatriots.

“Is it possible that Istanbul has gotten more expensive than Manhattan?” she said, opining about the major reality shock she’s faced since moving back to her homeland from New York.

The revelation that she and her husband felt they had no choice but to move back in with her parents was made to prominent Turkish newspaper Hurriyet in which she expounded upon seeing the economic reality averages Turks face for herself, stating

“We haven’t found a home in Istanbul. It’s terribly expensive. We’ve moved in with my parents,”

Under normal circumstances, the uncertainly arising from events in the ME (redirection of shipping away from the Red Sea, increasing instability in the ME) would mean prices should be trending up.

The oil market is fake because the price came down and petrol hasn’t moved or the Suez is blocked and the market is fake because oil hasn’t gone up enough?

Big, big call the oil market is fake.

Under normal circumstances, the uncertainly arising from events in the ME (redirection of shipping away from the Red Sea, increasing instability in the ME) would mean prices should be trending up

Oil is doing what it always does during tensions. It went up after the murders on 7th October – as folks began to stock up fearful of a wider conflict. When that didn’t come to pass, and stocks were well up, with the US output rising, the oil price fell. No biggie 🙂

I have a theory on why domestic petrol prices aren’t falling commensurately. If I was running a retail petrol operation, I’d look to see if demand fell as prices rose sometimes hitting close to $2.50 a liter. If demand didn’t fall much I wouldn’t be in a hurry to cut prices if other retailers weren’t. Despite what some people believe, there is such a thing as a market and profit motive. It works too, funnily enough. Businesses aren’t just there to act as utilities.

I doubt they were deliberately targeted. Still, it is dreadful. Just like the IDF sniper shooting dead the three male hostages. I grieve for the innocents, for the hostages, and for these two women. I do NOT shed any tears for the Islamist Gazan Nazis who choose murder, rape and terror.

Listened to an interesting podcast today giving an excellent example how fake news can be “fakenews” and you really can’t trust much these days.

Rolling Stone magazine ran a lengthy hit piece on Tesla stating that there was a recent massive recall of Tesla cars suggesting was really bad..

We learned the following.

1. Tesla wasn’t a recall in the traditional sense. No cars had to go in.

2. The “recall” was a software update that actually improved the automated driving software and there was no actual “fault” as such.

3. The owner of Rolling Stone is by a private equity firm wholly owned by someone by the name of Penske.

4. If you’ve spent anytime in the US you would know Penske is a very large auto dealership with over 200 spots scattered across the country.

5. The private equity firm is owned by the son of Penske the car dealer.

6. Penske Motors is a competitor to Tesla.

Conclusion

WHO demonstrably applies an unreasonable and arguably unlawful standard of conduct to Israel. Mirroring the bigotry of the UN this behaviour sets Israel apart from other states by persistently painting it as a severe violator of health rights. The WHO’s actions in the 2023 war in Gaza exemplify this apartheid. They fan the flames of anti-Semitism worldwide by perpetuating anti-Israel falsehoods while ignoring Hamas’ responsibility for the ongoing conflict and the resultant hardships of its citizens. This longstanding, biased treatment of Israel demonizes the Jewish state, dehumanizes the Jewish people, and delegitimizes its right to continued existence. It damages the WHO’s credibility, escalates mistrust in justice, and impedes opportunities for diplomacy to work.

WHO has shown itself incapable of the internal reforms needed to remove systemic anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism. Little will change until it finds the will to introduce fair accountability structures, such as independent oversight. Only then can WHO, and indeed the UN, help to achieve a fair and lasting peace in the region.

“During the dialogue between the IDF and representatives of the community, no reports of a hit on the church, nor civilians being injured or killed, were raised. A review of the IDF’s operational findings support this.”

The fog of war. I wouldn’t blame Israel for any casualties. Period. Dumarse started this, they always do and innocents suffer because of them. Period.

Hundreds attend Christmas interfaith remembrance service
The Catholic Weekly -By Staff Writers – December 19, 2023

Excerpts:

Bishop Terence Brady led the service which featured readers and singers from different faith backgrounds including Fowler MP Dai Le, who lost her mother this year.

Attendees had the opportunity to light a candle at the front of the cathedral to celebrate the life of their loved one, and recited the names of those they wanted to remember.

At the conclusion, attendees moved to cathedral square to view the stunning light show that is part of Christmas at the Cathedral.

Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria chief executive officer Lauren Hardgrove said the annual service has created strong and respectful alliances with many faith groups including the Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish and indigenous communities.

It provides support to those who may find it difficult to celebrate the Christmas period without their family or friends and is an integral part of Catholic Cemeteries’ mission of care and compassion for all in the community, she said.

“The service is always well-received by those who attend, who appreciate being able to honour those who still hold a place in their hearts, from whatever background they may come from,” she said.

Any missiles aimed at Saudi oil fields or facilities or ports would make this a bit “exciting” for the markets. Degree of “exciting” depending on who uses Saudi crude, where it gets refined, levels of reserve stocks, how fast other producers could fill supply gaps, revenge strikes by Saudis(if they could), insurance costs, tanker costs, alternate routes to refineries etc etc.

Commodities are super interesting because everything gets complicated real fast. You can ask ChatGPT for an answer but it would be telling lies.

Large Middle East oil fields being attacked. The Red Sea thing appears to be an annoyance.

Look, there’s not a single oil producer who doesn’t want to sell oil mainly because US oil production has provided some insurance.

Saudis, Iranians, Russia all need to sell oil to keep shit going.
Sudden price hikes in the oil price isn’t mainly coming from the consumer side as oil generally can find a work around impediments like what those Yemeni imbeciles are trying. The scare is always that something happens to the production side like Mid East oil fields going kaboom. That doesn’t look like happening at the moment.

I helped with the digitisation of the First World War Embarkation Roll. … Since the originals varied in quality from excellent to abysmal, it was a tedious but rewarding task.

Well done. Volunteers such as yourself have made it possible for archives to not only broaden public access to historical documents, but also to preserve such information in a new format, when the original material (usually paper) is substantially degraded.

The Trove database of the National Library – which various Cats are aware of – is another which has greatly benefited from volunteers. I’ve found the newspapers section of Trove to be vital in finding background info for another project – a biography of an individual long dead – though one of course needs to apply some healthy skepticism to such sources.

The digitisation of the AWM52 WWII war diaries has been fantastic, and saved me an awful lot of (not-yet-existent) money.

I worked in auto for a while.
They avoid the “R word” – Recall – like the plague. And with good reason. An immediate recall outside the normal service cycle costs a bomb, and usually rebounds in large part to the component supplier.
Improvements which don’t have an immediate safety risk are usually carried forward to the next scheduled service. Given they would plug the car into a diagnostic compuda anyway, the unit cost of uploading revised software during servicing would be approximately zero.

One of the best analyses of the islamic/palli culture, aided and abetted by Western leftist scum in the context of 10/7:

Hamas groomed an army of angry, insecure, wife-beating psychopaths and gave them permission to rape, mutilate and kill Israeli men, women, and children. The terror organization drugged these psychopaths, told them to videotape their atrocities, and offered them a $10,000 reward for taking hostages. Hamas savages were high on captagon, Israeli blood, and visions of martyrdom. They believed that they were heroes righting wrongs and injustices by killing and violating the “oppressors” who stole and occupy their land.

The October 7th attack on Israel can be partly attributed to the red-green alliance of radical leftists and Islamists who foster a cult of Palestinian victimhood. The coalition of radicals that divide the world into oppressors and oppressed has generated one of the most successful long-term global information operations by making the Palestinian-Israeli conflict a cause célèbre. Decades of calculated anti-American, anti-Zionist, anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist, oppressor-themed propaganda has resulted in “Palestinian solidarity” and support from Americans and people around the world. Disinformation campaigns combined with shame-based indoctrination techniques facilitated Oct. 7th — and its aftermath of worldwide antisemitic, anti-Israel protests and hate crimes.

The propaganda strategy portraying Palestinians as helpless victims against Israeli aggression is calculated to evoke deep-seated feelings of humiliation and shame that prompts violence. The Palestinians, similar to many other Muslim Arab males, belong to what is referred to as an ‘Honor – Shame’ culture, in which men are in a constant struggle with fear of dishonor and maintaining “reputation.” Emotions of weakness, helplessness and shame are always just below the surface, triggered by a hypersensitivity to any real or perceived act of humiliation. Honor and reputation are everything and can only be restored through violent bloodshed which washes away the insult.

Palestinian men who are continually portrayed in the media as weak, powerless, demeaned, and humiliated by Israel often relieve their feeling of shame and inadequacy by beating their wives. This is exemplified by the extremely high rate of Palestinian domestic violence. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2019, over seventy percent of the women in the Gaza Strip were exposed to violence from their husbands. The United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) attributes Gender Based Violence in Gaza to ‘traditional patriarchal norms and values’ and then justifies violence against women by blaming Israel for frustrating Gazan men.

Domestic Violence is very prevalent in honor-shame cultures and is referred to as honor violence and honor killing. Honor violence is extremely brutal and includes everything from beating, raping, shooting, stabbing, strangling, hanging, and worse. The women’s offenses typically include being too westernized, refusing an arranged marriage, not being properly covered, or just posting a photo on social media. If Palestinian men are willing to beat, rape, and murder their own wives, sisters, and daughters who have allegedly brought dishonor upon the family, it is not surprising that they committed extreme sexual atrocities, murder, and mutilation against Israelis whom they perceive as the primary cause of their dishonor.

During the October 7th attack on Israel, Hamas terrorists raped, gang-raped, beheaded, burned, mutilated, disfigured, and tortured men, women, children, the elderly and the disabled. Hamas terrorists chopped off fingers, arms and feet, gouged out eyes, obliterated faces and tied up dozens of people — including children — before burning them alive. They cut an unborn baby out of a pregnant woman, stabbed the baby with a knife and shot the mother in the head. Sexual atrocities included targeting the genitalia of male and female victims, cutting off breasts, castrating men, and shooting women in the vagina. The body of one woman had “nails and different objects in her female organs.”

Girls were so brutally gang-raped that their pelvic bones were broken. For Hamas terrorists, rape is not just a weapon of war, it is a way to alleviate their feelings of inadequacy, prove their manhood, demonstrate what they think signifies superior masculinity, and to ridicule, taunt and torment Israeli men who are unable, at gunpoint, to protect their women and children.

Symbolically, raping women in war signifies conquered territory and the rape of a nation. During their attack, Hamas terrorists raped not only women but men as well. The symbolic meaning of male-on-male rape is that the victims are being turned into women, which from a Palestinian hypermasculine and homophobic culture is one of the worst forms of humiliation. For Palestinians, shame is experienced as female traits of weakness. Hamas terrorists raped and tortured Israeli men to expunge their own hidden shame and project their humiliation onto their alleged oppressors. Similar to prison culture, the victims become their “bitch.” The rationale is, “he, and not me, is actually the woman.”

Hamas terrorists also castrated many of the Israeli men. According to testimony by a female police officer at a presentation to the United Nations, men were shot in their genitalia. The officer added, “They had a thing with sexual organs — both in women and in men, either amputation or targeted shooting [to that part of the body].” Male sexual organs symbolize masculinity, strength, and the reproduction of more enemy occupiers. Dishonor is signified by female qualities; hence, castration is the ultimate symbol of emasculation and implies that the victim is no longer a man. Historically, castration was used to eliminate potential opponents….

I shouldn’t wade into things I don’t understand, such as the price of oil, but over my short four and a half decades on this Earth, there is one pattern I’ve always noticed (and I wonder if it can be backed by historical data):

Every now and then the price of oil takes a really big leap before settling down to a “new normal.” This new normal is still much higher than it was previously but is not as high as the initial “oil shock.” It’s almost like a normalisation where peeps go “oh gee, thank God it’s not as high as it was” (when it is).

Every time it happens, I thinks to myself: A Saudi Prince bought a new mansion.

The cheating by the Democrats in 2024 will be so massive — underscored by the American left’s Trump derangement (lefties have no idea why a corruption-buster is popular is popular in the West’s new home of putrid political corruption, Washington DC) — Trump will need to carry the swing states by 10%+ to have any chance of victory.

My tip is that, faced with four more years of a puppet DNC presidency doing everything possible to piss off middle America, Trump will win in a landslide, which will translate into Trump being a few hundred thousand votes ahead nationally after the cheats have done their worst.

Then the Never Trump American judiciary will get involved. God help us.

Why would an imam want to concelebrate the Eucharist?
They don’t believe that Christ is God.

Yes.

Lysander, are you sure you haven’t got your wires crossed?

Concelebration is a very specific term.

Was he there perhaps to say a prayer (bad enough!).

Still, I’d like to see you or anyone else answer what event would spook the market here?

Large Middle East oil fields being attacked. The Red Sea thing appears to be an annoyance.

This is what the market is saying – although perhaps a little more than annoyance.
There is presently no production or terminal disruption and apparently sufficient tanker capacity in the market to manage the additional 10-day journey around the Cape.

Landed prices in exposed terminal markets will have increased due to the disruption to the Red Sea transit and increase in freight and insurance – but not much change to the supply fundamentals.

Who knows what “new age” and inclusive decisions have been made by idiotic Catholics in these last few years.

One only has to look at Papa Rossi’s latest edict on ssm unions.

Indeed Roger. He was there “to pray alongside his Christian brethren.” But I think even reading a few lines of the Eucharistic Prayer (vII) from the Roman Missael is “concelebrating.”

IMHO, the mass was null and void.

Yemen can hit those oil fields, one of the main reasons SA and UAE said ‘No’ to participating in the US naval operation, but that might still not help them in the end.

Okay.

As for Russia, they would certainly gain from an interruption in oil supplies from PG. It would kill completely the price cap and would certainly shift the relationship with China.

In the very short term and then, of it’s serious the world heads into depression and that’s not good for Russia either.

Any missiles aimed at Saudi oil fields or facilities or ports would make this a bit “exciting” for the markets.

Since Saudi and UAE aren’t in the coalition of the willing for the Red Sea fleet it suggests there’s a deal between the Yemeni parties that Saudi is keeping to. They didn’t like their petrochemical plants being shot up.

So far the Houthis are respecting the deal, whatever it is, since they aren’t targeting Saudi stuff.

And Saudi, Iran and China have just had a nice chat.

Not a Catholic, but I’m beginning to think the Sedevacantists have a point

Am a Catholic and, on the contrary, think the sedevacantists have a few (misguided) points. For a few reasons, that I won’t get the luxury to discuss this evening:

1. Sedevacantists, generally, loved John Paul II (despite his view of them lol!) so you can hardly hold the seat of Rome as vacant since Vatican II if this was the case.
2. Their upholding of Pope as Head of Church and laity at the bottom of “the triangle” was (and is) a perversion of the Church teachings. Proof of where the Church went wrong, historically.
3. Latin fanaticism speaks for itself. Christ celebrated the Eucharist in Hebrew, yet sedevacantists would say this was terrible as it wasn’t in Latin. Ironic.
4. Perversion of the Eucharist itself and the theology underlying the prayers and format. That a priest remains untouchable, absent from the congregation and locked in some “holy of holies” is ridiculous. We can celebrate the Eucharist around the family table, or by a lake. You can have it in your hands, not just on-tongue.
5. Roman Catholic: You can be “Catholic” but not “Roman Catholic” if you’re not in communion with Rome’s cannons.
6. Theological wading pool. Pope Benedict put out a “competition” for any priest, worldwide, to write to him with a fit and proper translation of the prayers and rites being said in these eucharists. Nobody was able to do it lol!
7. Ad Popularum: Not really a theological point but it’s not quite as popular as they make out.

I think we’ll see the sedevacantists brought back into the fold, but many Orders and Saints had to be “tested” by a time in the wilderness. Every such group (in the long run) has brought some value back to the Church.

The Church has also done bureaucracy for 2000yrs and takes it time on many such matters. It’s why, one day, I think we’ll see (inshallah) Pell canonized.

‘Scuse the rant as may not have been coherent! 😛

It’s not happening yet though, Tom. I with you for wanting it to be so.

If he doesn’t win then it’s likely the world will muddle along as usual, on its slow downward slide into confusion and chaos. Unless leadership springs from elsewhere.

Anyway, ’tis the merry time of year and we’ve just done lots of shopping.
