Hamas and Palestinians in Gaza.

Hamas supposedly planned their raid for a couple of years, while Palestinian civilians relished the opportunity, followed them in, and even without weapons used shovels and mattocks lying at hand in Israeli villages to behead Israelis, and used stolen vehicles to transport hostages to be bargained by Hamas.

Considering this, and more, in what way can anyone separate Hamas from Palestinians of Gaza.

It’s well acknowledged that many ‘Palestinians’ are against the ruthlessness of Hamas, but how can anyone ouside of their communities identify the inner most thoughts of the population when so many support Hamas and work hand in hand with Hamas.

Dover, you’re wrong in insisting there’s a any sort of obvios and clear separation between Gazan Palestinians and Hamas.

The IDF have been very clear that their beef is with Hamas (and assorted other terror groups).
The problem is, on the ground, Hamas control UNRWA who control the school curriculum which is centred on hatred of Jews and Israel.

For there to be any hope for the future UNRWA, in its current form, also needs to go.
For a tiny principality that produces just a few agricultural goods for export, a significant part of the population have done very well out of perpetual refugee status, and of course billions have been diverted to terrorism infrastructure.

Western countries have sent millions upon millions to help the palis and in fact the place wouldn’t exist without Western largest (helping them build their terror infrastructure). In the past, Europe has shown itself to be very sympathetic to the Palis. This time it’s different after Oct 7.

So they want our education, quality of living, health care and housing, but question on the basis of religious belief the need to be treated like all other Australians. If they don’t want interest or indexation, pay fees in full each year.

Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges. When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well.

Here’s how it works:
As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to other citizens.
This is the case in:
United States 0.6%+
Australia 1.9%+
Canada 1.9%
China 1.8%
Italy 1.5%
Norway 1.8% Muslim
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs.
This is happening in:
Denmark 2%
Belgium 4%
Germany 3.7%
United Kingdom 2.7%
Spain 4%
Thailand 4.6% Muslim
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims.
They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves —
along with threats for failure to comply.

So I don’t understand why the government is surprised at the demands for interest free loans/no increases for inflation – it fits in with what Islam does historically.

I have been to every single rally for Israel and the hostages here in NSW. At every rally we are told that this war is not against the Palestinian people, it is a war against Hamas.

Alas, Hamas does not differentiate. On 7 October 2023 the terrorist organisations targeted civilians along with soldiers, and it specifically and deliberately targeted women, children and babies to butcher.

The group Hamas, and what happened on 7 October 2023 are very popular among Palestinian Muslims, and that includes the use of rape, murder and kidnapping. Israel is not not dealing with a mindset that respects human life and it has no respect for Jewish life.

Further, almost all Palestinians and now leftists want to destroy Israel and the Jews. They are at war against Israel. When they speak “from the River to the Sea, Palestine will be Free”…..they mean….

Palestine will be Judenfrei

I now believe that they (and their fellow progressive leftist muck) want a world that is Judenfrei.

Corey Gil-Shuster has a Youtube channel called “Ask an Israeli/Ask a Palestinian”. With a translator, he goes into the West Bank, into Bethlehem, Ramallah, Nablus and Hebron. I recommend his videos. Gil-Shuster is a secular Israeli. I find viewing many of his videos unsettling and upsetting because here’s the crux of the issue…..ninety-five percent of Palestinians want Israel and the Jews gone.

Palestinians: Do you want to expel the Jews?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BsdOGJp9to&t=535s

Whilst we might say that we’re not at war against Palestinians, Palestinians make it clear, very clear, that they are at war against we Jews. They want Israel gone.

The Muslim mindset is completely different to the Western mindset.

A few months ago Gad Saad interviewed Cynthia Farahat. Farahat has written a book on the Muslim Brotherhood. She is an indigenous Egyptian Copt who now lives in exile in the USA. As she says, the Muslim Brotherhood and its child, Hamas, are death cults that exist to spill the blood of the kaffirs, they celebrate rape and murder. It is a cult of gruesome murder, and allowing Hamas to continue operating in Gaza or anywhere for that matter is equivalent to giving Ivan Milat the keys to Belanglo State Forest.

I saw some indignation last night over the SCOTUS ruling in favour of the Federal government with regards to what is happening at the border in Texas.

Some see this as the perfidy of the SCOTUS (I am so glad it is not called the ‘Supreme Court Ruling Over Totes United ‘Murica’).

Wouldn’t this simply be them ruling that the border is a Federal responsibility? I wouls assume that was the point put to them to be adjudicated upon just as I assume it was the Federal government that submitted it, not Texans. It would be beyond the power of the SCOTUS to decide that power ought to be transferred to Texas since Biden’s mob are so derelict.

Sorry for another column but Ms Buttrose is actually doing something.

ABC chair Ita Buttrose has doubled down on her support for David Anderson after the broadcaster’s union passed a vote of no confidence in the managing director.

More than 100 of the ABC’s union staff rebuked Mr Anderson on Monday over his handling of the sacking of presenter Antoinette Lattouf, who was let go just days into a fill-in radio gig over a retweet.

The ABC has faced fierce backlash over its decision to sack Ms Lattouf after she shared a social media post about the war in Gaza on her own page, with accusations that a letter-writing campaign from a group of pro-Israel lawyers may have influenced the decision.

The broadcaster has denied that lobbying efforts had influenced Ms Lattouf’s sacking, arguing she was let go after disobeying orders from management not to post about controversial issues while in the presenter position.

The ABC Board held a crisis meeting on Tuesday over the issue, where it passed a unanimous vote of confidence in Mr Anderson.

“It is abhorrent and incorrect that people would suggest that he has shown a lack of support for independent journalism and journalists,” Ms Buttrose said in a statement.

“David Anderson has always been a strong supporter of the independence of the ABC and its journalists.

“He has encouraged them to report without fear or favour and has never weakly surrendered to criticism as some critics have alleged.”

Ms Buttrose said any “assumption” that she or Mr Anderson would be influenced by lobbying pressure “is quite simply wrong”.

“The Board, including the Managing Director, recognise that this is a very difficult environment for our staff with many societal issues that threaten to divide us,” she said.

“We will continue to prioritise actions that support our staff, ensure our journalistic independence and protect the trust that Australians place in the ABC.”

Ms Lattouf has launched legal proceedings against the ABC over the sacking, claiming she was discriminated against because of her Lebanese heritage and her political expression, allegations the broadcaster has denied.

Thousands gathered in Melbourne in support of Ms Lattouf at a pro-Palestinian protest in Melbourne this weekend.

Ms Lattouf has said that she feels like she was “thrown under the bus” by the public broadcaster.

“I was floored, not only [by] how I was fired but how quickly things escalated because one minute I was taking talkback callers … the next, I’m thrown under the bus in a very public way,” she said in a BBC interview.

Of course the statement about ABC reporters’ independence is laughable but she has finally said something. About time.

dover, you are wading into the murkiest of murky waters trying to argue some kind of separation to differentiate between Palestinians and Hamas. Let me assure you, IF there is one it is not discernible to the human eye. Any waverers of Hamas support will only be temporary, until they fall back into line with their community. That is how Palestinians roll. Inside Gaza and outside. There are only some degrees of support. But, support they all must.

For many Pallies the David (Pali) vs Goliath(Israel) story is their inspiration. Inflicting any harm no matter how barbaric on Israel is a cause to celebrate. To them it’s deserved many times over.

So you can argue from over here that Hamas is not all Palestinians but over there Hamas is in fact all Palestinians in one way or another.

Sunrise host Nat Barr loses it at Woolworths boss on live TV as she confronts him about major Australia Day backdown – and he makes a shock revelation

Sunrise host Nat Barr has accused the boss of Woolworths of trying to making a political statement about Australia Day, sparking a surprise admission about the retailer’s controversial move to not to stock merchandise.

The supermarket giant shocked customers earlier this month when it stripped store shelves of Australia Day merchandise due to a declining demand and ongoing sensitivities around the day, sparking a massive nationwide uproar.

In response to the public backlash, the retailer has since taken out full page newspaper ads, with a public letter from boss insisting the supermarket giant is not anti Australia Day.

However he dodged a key question from Karl Stefanovic.

‘So you’re not anti Australia today as a company?’ Stefanovic asked.

‘Karl, we are a very proud Australian company. We’ve been around for 100 years. We have 178,000 hard working team members who are going to be in store doing the right thing for our customers on Australia Day, and we’re passionate about this country,’ Mr Banducci said.

‘But you’re not anti Australia Day?’ Stefanovic asked again.

Banducci hit back saying it ‘means different things to everyone’ and the supermarket leadership support Australians to commemorate the day in whatever way they wish.

‘You must have serious regrets about this?’ Karl drilled in.

‘I think we could clearly have done a better job of explaining our decision, that’s why I’m here,’ he said.

‘I do feel anxious about the impact that this is having on our team. They are proud, hard working Australians, and for them to be seen as anti-Australian or woke is fundamentally unfair.’

Liberal senator Matt Canavan spoke out in response to the Woolworths CEO’s comments later on in the show.

‘Brad is a man under pressure, Woolworths is under pressure and thank you to all Australians for standing up against these unelected corporate elites who think they can dictate at what should happen in this country,’ he said.

He said the retail giant is “clearly trying to make a political statement” about Australia Day.

Albanese poised to break stage three tax cut promise

The Albanese government is set to gut the stage three tax cuts for high-income earners and use the revenue to help those on middle and low incomes, including people earning less than $45,000, the level at which the tax cuts begin.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who promised multiple times before and after the last election to not touch the tax cuts, believing it was a matter of integrity, presided over the changes at a meeting of cabinet on Tuesday.

The changes, which involve retaining the 37 per cent tax rate that was earmarked for abolition, will be rubber-stamped, along with other cost of living assistance, at a snap meeting of the caucus on Wednesday, and Mr Albanese will plead his case at the National Press Club on Thursday.

It will be the second clear broken promise affecting high-income earners after the government last year announced tax increases on the earnings from super funds valued over $3 million, despite Mr Albanese promising before the election no changes to super taxes.

Mr Albanese hinted at the stage three U-turn before cabinet when he said: “I support tax cuts and everyone will be getting a tax cut”.

It is understood that the changes, which Treasury has advised will be budget and inflation neutral, will result in the tax breaks for those at the top end being slashed, and the revenue redirected right down the income chain.

The already legislated stage three tax cuts – the culmination of a three-step process that has already benefited low and middle income earners – would abolish the 37 per cent bracket that applies to income between $120,000 and $180,000, and apply a 30 per cent rate to all earnings between $45,000 and $200,000.

‘Egregious betrayal of trust with the Australian people’: Albanese called out over expected tax changes

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been blasted by the Coalition ahead of his urgent meeting with ministers in Canberra on Wednesday to discuss cost of living relief to help struggling Australians, which is set to also include an overhaul to the stage three tax cuts.

Coalition accuses Anthony Albanese of declaring ‘war on aspiration’ ahead of looming changes to stage three tax cuts

But under Labor’s expected change, the 37 per cent bracket is set to stay for those making between $135,000 and $190,000, with the highest 45 per cent rate applied after the latter.

The Albanese government’s changes would see Australians on an income up to $150,000 better off, while those on $200,000 will pay about $1,5000 more tax.

That money would be redirected to low and middle income earners to help with the cost of living, which Mr Albanese on Tuesday stressed is who the government wants to help.

This would mean the PM is breaking his second election promise, after multiple times vowing he would keep the former Coalition government’s stage 3 tax cuts.

“The Prime Minister and Treasurer (Jim Chalmers) lied over 100 times to the Australian people about these stage three tax cuts,” he said to First Edition host Peter Stefanovic.

“They said they were committed to them, they said they were going to stick to them… they’ve been to two elections and of course both the Prime Minister and Treasurer voted for them. So, if there was ever a breach of promise… this is it.

“And the truth is, this Prime Minister and Treasurer’s word means absolutely nothing.”

‘Stabbing Australians in the back’: Taxpayers group warns Anthony Albanese not to break stage three tax cut promise amid increasing speculation

The Albanese government has been warned not to “stab hard working Australians in the back” as speculation increases the government will break its promise to proceed with the Coalition-era stage three tax cuts.

The threshold for the top 45 per cent marginal tax rate is also set to increase from $180,000 to $200,000.

It is these changes to the top income tax threshold which have been at the centre of speculation, with 2GB’s Chris O’Keefe claiming on Monday that the government would abandon the change.

According to the Australian Taxpayers’ Alliance (ATA), this would send a clear signal to voters that Labor “cannot be trusted”.

“If the reports are true, then this is a clear signal to millions of Australian voters that Labor cannot be trusted,” ATA executive director Brian Marlow said in a statement.

“They promised over and over again not to touch stage 3 tax cuts, yet here we are just moments away from parliament resuming and massive tax changes appear to be on the cards.

“This isn’t just about the numbers – it’s about trust. Voters need to ask themselves, can you trust a government that promises for years to do one thing, only to stab hard working Australian voters in the back at the last minute?”

Mr Marlow cited modelling by the ATA’s chief economist Dr John Humphreys which found the government would raise “no extra revenue” by abandoning the stage three changes, arguing it would in fact harm the economy.

“Raising the top threshold from $180k to $200k is expected to boost reported GDP by $3.3 billion/year. That’s obviously a good thing – especially in the current stagnant economy – and if Labor backtracks on that policy then Australia will lose that benefit,” Dr Humphreys said.

The ATA chief economist – who has previously worked at Treasury, the World Bank, and ASEAN – was highly critical of Australia’s tax debate.

“Our tax debate is a fraud. By ignoring how people respond to taxes, the government is being fundamentally dishonest in how they consider tax changes,” Dr Humphreys said.

“Most tax discussion is focused on who benefits today. There is nearly no serious consideration of productivity. Australia’s productivity is going backwards and we are in a per-capita recession.

“The economic reason for tax cuts (beyond the direct benefit received by taxpayers) is that it helps drive productivity and economic growth, which is the only sustainable way to raise wages and lower the cost of living.”

War in Ukraine

Ukraine war is ‘battle for ammunition’, says Nato chief

Kyiv’s troops forced to ration artillery rounds as Russia launches latest barrage

Russia’s war in Ukraine has turned into “a battle of ammunition”, Nato’s head has warned, as supply shortages have forced Kyiv’s military to ration artillery rounds.

“Increased production of ammunition is an absolute necessity to enable us to continue to provide support to Ukraine,” Nato secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday, as the alliance signed a €1.1bn deal to procure more ammunition its members can use to arm Ukrainian forces or to replenish their own stocks.

“With the consumption of ammunition we see in Ukraine, with the needs we see?.?.?.?we need to ramp up production,” Stoltenberg added.

His comments came hours after Ukraine was hit by another Russian barrage, with officials in Kyiv growing increasingly concerned their forces could run out of munitions by the time allies in the US and EU finally agree on further military assistance for this year.

Faced with dwindling supplies, Ukrainian soldiers on the front line have told the Financial Times in recent days that they are forced to ration munitions while Russian troops step up their attacks.

“Indeed there is really not enough ammunition,” said a senior Ukrainian artillery brigade officer.

Ukraine went from firing 8,000 shells per day during its counteroffensive in the summer to just 2,000 in recent weeks, according to a platoon commander.

Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, Ukraine’s commander of operations in the south-east, told reporters in December that his forces faced a shortage of artillery shells due to the lack of western military assistance, forcing troops to scale back some operations along the 1,000km front line.

EU partners last spring vowed to send Ukraine 1mn artillery rounds, which are crucial to the country’s frontline defence. But as of late December, Ukrainian officials said that only about 300,000 shells had been provided.

Nato on Tuesday signed a contract for “hundreds of thousands of rounds” of 155mm artillery ammunition, which allies will be able to send on to Ukraine or replenish their own inventories.

Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has repeatedly urged western allies whose support has been critical to repelling Russia’s invasion to step up supplies of air defence systems as well as offensive capabilities.

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said on Monday that the next few months would be “critical for Ukraine”, whose commanders are faced with “difficult decisions” about what weaponry to deploy “because they don’t know when the next shipment is going to come”.

“That’s a horrible place to put the Ukrainian military in,” Kirby warned, “as the Russians certainly aren’t suffering under that same uncertainty, as they reach out to North Korea for ballistic missiles?.?.?.?and drones from Iran and [continue] producing on their own.”

Posting a video on X of residential buildings in the northeastern city of Kharkiv that were bombed by Russia’s overnight missile attacks, Zelenskyy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, stressed the urgency for Kyiv’s backers to swiftly approve more military assistance.

“The world must understand that this terror can only be stopped by force,” Yermak wrote.

Zelenskyy in his evening video address on Tuesday said that at least 18 people had been killed and 130 injured in the latest barrage, with air strikes damaging 139 buildings. In some, rescue workers were still searching for people trapped under the rubble.

Only half of Russia’s 41 missiles fired overnight were intercepted, according to Ukrainian army officials.

Vitaly Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, said a residential building was being evacuated after an undetonated warhead was found in one of the apartments.

Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the attacks on Tuesday but denied targeting civilians.

Report: Michelle Obama’s Secret Plan to Replace Joe Biden for President Emerges

The Gateway Pundit’s Kristinn Taylor shared an explosive story last week that Barack and Michelle Obama are angling to replace decrepit, unpopular Joe Biden with the younger and more popular Michelle as the Democrats’ presidential nominee. Michelle has reportedly already surveyed major Democrat donors about her potential candidacy and in 2022 allegedly told a gathering of CEOs in New York City she was running.

Now, the New York Post’s Cindy Adams reveals that a secret plan has emerged to throw Old Joe under the bus. She claims it comes from “credible sources few have access to and usually not meant for the noses of the media.”

Barack has reportedly polled donors and put together a plan for Michelle, which is still being tweaked, according to Adams.

Per Adams, here is how the plot will work:

Around May, Biden announces he’s not running (even mentally). The so-called plot is that come the August convention, Michelle gets nominated.

Next step, Hunter’s father — the temp — drops out just before that convention.

For now, he still play-acts like he’s a real candidate.

One may wonder why Biden does not drop out now and let Michelle get a head start. Adams argues that he must pretend he’s running because “our dodo-in-chief would have to stop quacking and become a lame duck.”

Before The Next Crisis Hits – Prepare With A Medical Emergency Kit (Includes Ivermectin and Z-Pak)

As the Gateway Pundit reported earlier this month, Michelle set off a firestorm with her comments regarding the potential of another Trump Presidency. This only fueled speculation that she was gearing up for a run to save the Democrats.

Here is what she said to Jay Shetty on his podcast “On Purpose”:

Things that keep me up because you, you don’t have control over them. And you wonder, where are people that, where are we in this? You know, where are our hearts? What’s gonna happen in this next election?

I am terrified about what could possibly happen. Because our leaders matter. Who we select. Who speaks for us. Who holds that bully pulpit. It affects us in ways that I sometimes think people take for granted

Germany’s $660m pitch for Australia’s green hydrogen

Germany’s minister for economic affairs and climate action, Robert Habeck, wrote to the Australian government late last year with the proposal, suggesting each nation pitches in €200 million of funding, according to H2Global, the German government-backed entity charged with developing the hydrogen market in that country.

The auction scheme would provide long-term sales agreements for fuels such as green ammonia and green methanol that will be critical for Germany to decarbonise its industrial, power and heavy transport sectors. For Australian producers, it would help close the gap between production costs and sales prices, reducing the need to find commercial customers for long-term contracts.

Australia has shown interest in exploring the subsidy system but has not yet accepted the funding proposal. The idea of hydrogen trading was included in a “hydrogen partnership” signed between the two nations in 2021.

The “westernized” name stuck for want of proper scholarship. At the time, the nearest “Arabs” were a small nomadic culture of mostly pagan tribes, somewhere out in eastern “Arabia”. 24 IDF soldiers killed in deadliest day since start of Gaza combat

Twenty-one troops died in a building collapse and three others in battle • Netanyahu: “I wish to strengthen the dear families of our heroic warriors.”

(January 23, 2024 / JNS)
Twenty-four Israel Defense Forces soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip on Monday, the deadliest single day for the Israeli military since the start of its ground operation against Hamas on Oct. 27.

Twenty-one soldiers were killed in central Gaza when two buildings collapsed due to a blast, IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said on Tuesday morning.

Three other soldiers were killed in battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

The incident occurred 600 meters (2,000 feet) from the Israeli border, near the northwestern Negev community of Kibbutz Kissufim, as Israeli forces were working on clearing Hamas infrastructure and buildings to establish a buffer zone.

According to Hagari, around 4 p.m., terrorists fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a tank securing the forces.

At the same time, two two-story buildings collapsed as a result of an explosion while most of the troops were inside or near them.

The blast was apparently caused by explosives placed by the Israeli forces, intended to destroy the buildings in a controlled event.

Hagari emphasized that the incident is still under investigation, including the cause of the explosion.

We Are at War With Iran’s Mullahs

Someone should tell Joe Biden.

Each morning for the last several days I’ve turned first for news concerning the two SEALs lost at sea off the coast of Somalia, hoping—by this moment, hoping against all hope—that they will somehow be found alive.

Every true American should be saddened at their probable fate, even as we pray for a miracle. And every true American should wish, passionately, that the authors of this fate are held to account.

We might start by honestly facing up to “an inconvenient truth” for the Biden administration, a truth far more inconvenient than anything Al Gore every imagined.

We are at war with the Iranian regime.

It’s about time we accepted this, drew the appropriate conclusions, and initiated the necessary actions to bring this war to a speedy and successful conclusion.

As we come to terms with this, we need to dispose of three false propositions.

First, this is not a war against the people of Iran. The war is a war initiated by the Shia theocratic dictatorship of the “Supreme Leader” Ali Khamenei, his tight little circle of fellow theocrats, and the larger cluster of Islamist fanatics centered around the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, the IRGC.

Second, this is not a “war of choice” on our part.

Third, this is not simply a war confined to the Middle East, nor is it just about Israel.

The dirty little secret of U.S. homeland security is that, with an absolutely wide-open southern border, we have absolutely no idea how many hard-core, well-trained Islamist terrorists have already infiltrated the U.S., particularly now, when they can mingle so freely among the haters already in our midst.

Perhaps the Chinese are better positioned to exploit our many vulnerabilities, but the Iranian regime, most certainly, runs a close second in that sweepstakes. And while Chairman Xi professes a timetable for war that starts in 2027, the Iranian regime has already declared war on us.

This, unquestionably, is the meaning behind Hamas’ October 7 atrocities, and also the meaning behind the ongoing wave of missile attacks on Red Sea shipping, attacks that lately have directly targeted U.S. vessels.

Unmistakably, and whatever its other motivations, the October 7 attack was meant to destroy any hope of an enduring rapprochement between Israel and the Saudis.

The “Abraham Accords” represented a direct challenge to the Iranian regime’s ambitions, and the most important step toward lasting peace in the region since the 1979 “Camp David Accords” between Israel and Egypt.

The Biden administration’s renewed—and profoundly wrongheaded—pursuit of the Iranian nuclear deal pulled the rug out from under the Saudis, and the Hamas attacks have made a deal, for now, impossible.

Similarly, Iran’s role in the Houthi missile attacks should be obvious to anyone with eyes to see.

The bottom line is that, while the war has started, it remains containable, if only we make the effort to contain it.

We don’t have to invade Iran, but we do have to start fighting back. We have to defend ourselves. And, having done that, perhaps we can start thinking about how we might actually win.

Perhaps someone should wake up Joe Biden and tell him that.

The blast was apparently caused by explosives placed by the Israeli forces, intended to destroy the buildings in a controlled event.

This is what happens when you have the whole of Parliament squidging, extemporizing, committed to nothing, and trying to satisfice everyone. They want the money to spend – but know that the punters are shitted to tears with providing it.

Eventually, the inevitable winner is More Spending.

Freed Israeli women hostages tell of abuse
Agency writers
Agency writers

Two freed Israeli women hostages on Tuesday gave testimony to a group of lawmakers on the abuse they experienced while being held captive by Hamas militants in Gaza.

“I was there 51 days and there wasn’t a moment that we didn’t go through abuse of any kind,” said Aviva Siegel, who was taken hostage on October 7.

Siegel, 62, told the hearing on sexual violence during the Israel-Hamas conflict that militants had turned both women and men hostages into “dolls on a string that they can do with them what they please, whenever they please”.

“I saw it with my own eyes. I didn’t just see, I felt the women as if they were my daughters,” she said.

Siegel said male hostages were suffering equally in captivity. “The men are also going through what the women are experiencing. They may not be getting pregnant but they are also dolls on a string,” she said.

Chen Goldstein-Almog, another freed hostage, said she had seen fellow female hostages miss periods during their captivity.

She said this may have been due to “the difficult conditions in captivity”, but added that she feared that “heaven forbid they get pregnant”.

The biggest fear the captives had was of being abandoned by the Israeli authorities, added Goldstein-Almog, 48.

“The feeling there is that you’re forgotten, that they’ve given up on you,” she told the meeting via video link.

Both women were freed during a seven-day humanitarian pause in late November that led to the release of 80 Israeli hostages in exchange for aid deliveries into Gaza and the freeing of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

Their brief remarks add to a growing number of accounts of sexual violence emerging from Hamas’s October 7 attacks and against hostages held for months by the Palestinian militant group.

But scarcity of survivor testimonies and forensic evidence made it difficult to assess the scale of sexual violence in the attacks.

Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, carried out an unprecedented attack on October 7 that resulted in the deaths of about 1140 people in Israel, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures.

During the attack Palestinian militants also seized about 250 hostages. Israel says around 132 remain in besieged Gaza, including the bodies of at least 28 dead hostages, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli data.

Fourteen women hostages are still being held in Gaza, according to an AFP tally. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met a group of freed hostages last month, saying after the meeting that he had been told “about cases of sexual abuse and cruel rapes”.

In response to the attack, Israel has launched a relentless offensive in Gaza that has killed at least 25,490 people, mostly women and children, according to the latest toll issued Tuesday by Gaza’s health ministry.

‘Apologise or go’: Indigenous leader could run against Victorian Liberals’ John Pesutto in his Hawthorn seat after Coalition’s U-turn on Treaty

The Victorian Opposition is facing the prospect of an Indigenous leader running against John Pesutto in his inner-city seat of Hawthorn, after he called for the politician to apologise or resign over the Coalition’s U-turn on Treaty.

Nira illim bulluk man of the Taungurung Nation Marcus Stewart has told Sky News Australia the Liberal leader owes an apology to the Indigenous community for the hurt and pain caused by the Coalition changing its support for Treaty in Victoria and saying they will no longer back the process.

He said the First People’s Assembly of Victoria should have been consulted prior to Coalition Aboriginal Affairs spokesperson Peter Walsh revealing the position in an exclusive interview to Sky News Australia.

“John Pesutto owes the assembly an apology or he should go,” Mr Stewart told Sky News Australia.

“The disrespect shown to our elders is absolutely absurd.”

He said Mr Pesutto’s standing in his inner-city seat of Hawthorn could be threatened by the change of policy, citing inner-city voters in an area which voted more than 60 percent in favour of the failed Voice referendum.

Oddly, Mr Pesutto is apparently also representing people outside of the inner-city seat of Hawthorne. Strange concept, to be sure.

Aussie shotfirers tend not to have RPGs fired at them. That’s what set the charges off unfortunately.

Some Palis apparently infiltrated from a nearby orchard and fired the RPG and another AT round of some kind.

The IDF engineers having to set the demolition charges for so many buildings are heroes. Not only doing demolitions but also dealing with zillions of IEDs and boobytraps. This is the second time the charge went off prematurely, the first time was when a nearby tank fired their main gun, which caused an electrical short.

Hamas is a Palestinian weapon. Israel’s insistence on retaining security within Gaza after demolishing Hamas is because they know it won’t change Palestinians, it will only make their genocidal efforts ineffective. Like taking a gun from someone who won’t change their murderous mindset.

Is This The Real Life? Or Just a Fantasy?

Thoughts on theology, survival, and The Simulation.

GLENN HARLAN REYNOLDS

“Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?” Those aren’t just lines from “Bohemian Rhapsody,” but a serious question for many.

And maybe they should be a bigger question for others.

The question is: Are we living in real life, or in a computer simulation?

Oxford philosopher Nick Bostrom has been raising that possibility for years.

In principle, you can simulate anything with a digital computer that’s powerful enough.

And, as Edward Frenkel wrote in The New York Times, “If such simulations are possible in theory, (Bostrom) reasons, then eventually humans will create them — presumably many of them.

If this is so, in time there will be many more simulated worlds than nonsimulated ones.

Statistically speaking, therefore, we are more likely to be living in a simulated world than the real one.”

And, as Frenkel also noted, scientists have detected small anomalies in some computer simulations, anomalies that if discovered in the real world, could indicate that we actually are living in a simulated world.

There are also aspects of the physical world – chiefly certain quantum effects – that have suggested to some that our universe is simulated. Digital, not analog.

Even Elon Musk has weighed in, saying that in his opinion, the odds that we’re not living in a simulated universe as opposed to a real one are “one in billions.”

Culturally, references to “the simulation,” which used to be limited to a tiny coterie of uber-geeks, have now entered into popular discourse.

I remember during Covid when people were saying that the “murder hornets” were a sign that the simulation’s controllers had relaxed the probability limits and the like, or wondering if simulations have the equivalent of “sweeps week.” (And maybe they do; more on that later.)

But so what? What difference, as Hillary Clinton might ask, does it make whether we’re in a “real” or a “simulated” universe?

In one sense, it doesn’t matter at all.

If you stub your simulated toe against a simulated end table, the simulated pain will seem quite real to you, as I can (simulatedly?) attest.

Australian of the Year news (the NT News):

A man who drove through the Coolalinga Hungry Jacks drive through with his erection exposed after a “super Viagra” fuelled orgy “backfired quite dramatically” has been handed a good behaviour bond.

Humpty Doo farrier David Bruce Richardson pleaded guilty in the Darwin Local Court to indecent exposure after the incident which left a teenage drive through attendant “reduced to tears” in September last year.

The 51-year-old’s lawyer, Peter Maley, told the court his client had been at a Darwin hotel a day earlier with some “friends” when he took “a substance called Pit Bull Super, which is a super Viagra”.

Pit Bull Super. Could have done with a more appropriate name, I would have thought, like ‘Mega Crazy Fat For Days’ or ‘Towering Tumescence’.

Or ‘Potential Greatness’.

“He was with a number of young ladies, friends, and they were having relations and he says that his erection would not cease and it became extremely painful.”

Mr Maley said Richardson became dehydrated and “started to panic” after the “erectile enhancer” caused “the side of his penis to begin splitting because of the lack of circulation”.

Ah.

“He drove home in agony and he says that he had a towel but nothing could touch his penis, it felt like it was about to explode and he was concerned,” he said.

“He pulled into Hungry Jack’s, he’s purchased some food, there was a towel, he says he didn’t get out of the car, he was dreadfully embarrassed.”

Well, it is the Wet Season.

funny that, “if the missing screws had no impact on the safety of the plane”, then why did the they disembark and place all the passengers on another flight?

PR.
There are two kinds of removable panels on aircraft. Load bearing and non load bearing. Non load bearing usually has some reinforcement around the edge of the aircraft structure if the loads in the area are high enough to require it. Leaving the panel off might have aerodynamic consequences but not structural ones.
Load bearing is more like a panel that is riveted in place but uses screws instead so it can be removed for maintenance to get at something it covers.
Fittings like this on aircraft have a fitting safety factor typically about twice expected maximum load so a few percent of fasteners missing isn’t a big deal. WHY they are missing is another matter.

Embattled television presenter Andrew O’Keefe has been found guilty of kicking and spitting at a woman during a “frightening and degrading” domestic violence assault.

And how are you going to react if its another passenger and not an employee? There comes a point when you just roll your eyes and move on.

Quite a different matter.

Unless the passenger is seated right next you, the level of in-flight interaction is effectively zero. Even then, the pin is far less likely to be visible than on a staff member leaning over you and your neighbour to deliver drinks et al.

Let’s avoid a debate on angels on the head of a pin, his is about a public business allowing its staff to demonstrate potentially controversial positions. The businesses involved tend to show great sensitivity to the feelings of “protected” groups, much less so for the hoi polloi. Time they treated all equally.
