VicPlod isn’t really up to the job is it.

Ya reckon? I had a confrontation with a “lady” policeman this very day. It was a two-lane, very busy road, and there was , as I later found out, a pretty decent accident at an equally busy intersection. One car was sitting on its side. All the traffic in my lanes was being told to do a U-turn, and I proceeded to do exactly that. This gross, fat slob with tats all up her arms started screaming at me because she said our lane wasn’t supposed to move. She never indicated that though. So I screamed back at her to learn some manners and try to improve her communication skills.

I have also known blokes who… presented with such nonsense didn’t stop short of black eyes.

You would get properly hurt.

Why play that card? Why even talk about it? How hard is it to be polite and not looking for trouble. There is trouble aplenty in this World without searching for same.

I’ve listened to some of the Lex interview of Tucker.
It is more interesting hearing him discuss his interview with Putin than the original interview itself.
He intimated that off the record, before the interview started, Putin made it clear he wants a deal in Ukraine to end the war.

From what I remember reading somewhere Ukraine also wanted to open negotiations early in the war, particularly when they were doing well, but the idea was disallowed by Biden and his people. The only other person more evil than Biden is Mitch McConnell who is enabling the war by approving funding for it.

After watching somebody Jennings on Sharri tonight I have changed my mind about Burgess mentioning a traitor in order to score more funding. Jennings said that Burgess is probably alarmed at Islamic terrorism threat which Labor governments are suppressing for political reasons. Burgess might be holding the exposure of a traitor in their midst so that he may be allowed to do his job.

Elections really have consequences, here, in Ukraine, US and the Middle East.

This is true. We were out fishing one night off Stockton Bight, 2005-ish, 8 of us aboard, picked up by one of those waves and pitched onto the sand. 38ft game boat, and we landed next to the Sygna, a bulk carrier that grounded in a cat4 storm May 25, 1974, anniversary coming up soon.

We walked off the boat, 2am-ish, phoned the water police and some mates in the salvage game, all sorted the next day, and me a journalist, I did not write a word. We were all imbibed, and it would have cost our mate $300k insurance loss.

Further shipwreck story of our son, who lost his driving licence DUI as an apprentice plumber, so we sent him to sea with a mate delivering yachts.

Some here may know Chas From Tas, and his mate Johnny, who delivered yachts all around the world in their day, great mates with Jimmy Buffet, Crewed for Simon Le Bon on Drum, well, we sent our son off with that pair for a couple of years. The only grounding our son had was in the Great Sandy Strait, where we are at present.

He is far from the water driving a crane in the Pilbara at present, but will be taking our boat to Mackay later this year. What a life for young man.

Sad that some of the ladies have gone on strike.
It’s more of a pout, imho. A real strike is quite a thing that wrecks lives and businesses.
My father was a union leader in the newspaper printing industry during the ALP /Communist split of 1955. He led the DLP side of the PKIU through those years into the mid-60s, and I grew up with union meetings every Saturday morning in our kitchen.
Sitting there, listening and absorbing the whole room full of debate and discussion, nothing hidden from us as young kids, was just magic that never left me. It was history being made

That’s why I like the Cat, and why people should not be too precious about ratbags here. Some of the striking ladies could be tedious, but same goes for some of the males.

I LOVE Mathematics and the thing that pissses me off about myself is that I aint smart enough to soak it up like a sponge

I know bolt

my business partner took the early route to his engineering degree because he had a life with fewer challenges than I did
I had to take the long route

he’s mathematically theoretical
and I’m more of an applied kind of guy

we had a challenge recently:
given a horizontal tank with torospherical ends, using a pressure and temperature transmitter, work out how much diesel is in it
a problem which, is not entirely trivial

biz partner goes, “that’s non-linear because xyz. So I’m not sure what to do”
I go, ” oh yeah I get it , so it is … gimme a couple hours”

JC is absolutely convinced that everybody here except himself is a fraud

Matrix, JC, maths, music and language are the same. At least that’s how I have always found it, so they are all easy to understand. If you can get the structure of one, you can get them all.
For instance, written music is mathematical, and written shorthand is similar. Latin is a language based on a decimal structure, hence modern maths and western English.
Eastern Sanskrit-based languages, music, money are a different universe that I have not learned yet.

I’m safe in Siracusa. Not quite as touristy as Taormina though geared up enough for tourists.
Unlike Taormina South Asians are also running souvenir shops so like Palermo, the prices of fridge magnets are a little more competitive. I’m still not buying any.
Lots of tour groups here, including Japanese/Chinese? and Germans, whenever I see some older person wearing something really weird, I think German, and am usually right.
Happy with my place, not far from where I stayed in the old Jewish quarter last time, it’s in a tiny square, and I’m in the rear section of an ancient building, looks like ex warehouse, with two very high archs and the dark wooden floor and joists of upstairs for my ceiling. I was shoving my suitcase along thinking, this place better not be on the second floor, but bliss, a ground floor it was. Newly renovated it’s a bit dark and cave like but I’m happy.
The three storey palazzo across
the way is in a sorry state, most of the ceiling caved in, hopefully it’s on someone’s list to rebuilt.
And there is building renovation work going on around the island. Good to see.
Got a fright at the station, thought I’d be organised and get my train ticket for Pozzallo and the catamaran to Valletta on Monday now. The ticket clerk told me very firmly there were no trains to Pozzallo on Mondays (there was definitely one last year).
He then relented and told me there was a bus. 10.27, be there or be square.

Speaking of chefs

One of the best episodes of Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares was when he helped a flaky Scottish single mother who had a vegetarian cafe in Paris, with the crazy South American chef.

Ramsey got simple mass produced down to earth food, all with profitability in mind.

It was the first time I thought vegetarian food looked palatable.

The Scottish grandad who was bankrolling the operation had to pull the pin eventually. It’s like his daughter wanted to fail. She had been gifted a turn key business, all she had to do was turn up.

She ended up putting a cracking young apprentice chef from Scotland out of work as well as a reliable French mother who did prep early.

Entitlement mentality gone wild. Apparently, taxpayers should subsidise this woman being able to keep her dog comfortable:

Jessica Gerstenmayer leaves the air conditioning running for hours when she is not at home on a hot summer’s day so her dog does not overheat.

While it means she pays more on energy bills for her 1970s home in Mildura, she estimates the installation of energy efficiency upgrades like insulation will cost between $3,000 to $6,000, which she said were out of reach.

Living in a north-west Victorian town, where summer temperatures regularly hit the mid-40 degree Celsius mark, Ms Gerstenmayer was frustrated there was no government support available.

“They go on about greenhouse gases and reducing your power and energy and that sort of stuff, but then there’s nothing there [for insulation discounts],” she said.

“It’s not a cheap thing to do. It does get frustrating.”

Well, how about a subsidised electro-cooled pony harness. With fuel injection. Fuel injection.

The Chronicles of Narnia Doesn’t Deserve a Spot On 21st Century Bookshelves

The beloved children’s series has aged like milk

Classic literature passes the test of time by continuing to speak good, powerful lessons on important issues that do not go away. In The Odyssey, we are captured by the overwhelming desire to get home. In Hamlet, we are torn by indecision. For Whom the Bell Tolls tells us of the plight of the rebel.
There may be elements of the story that no longer apply to today’s world or that no longer fit in it. Odysseus had slaves, women couldn’t act in Elizabethan England, and Hemingway was a misogynist. But these things can be cut away or treated as useful, largely innocuous pieces of historical information. They could even be details that draw more meaning from the text and inform us of why our society is the way it is.
In The Chronicles of Narnia, though, these flaws in the books’ message are not harmless. If the Christian metaphor and the 1950s-style sexism and racism aren’t enough to strip the title of “classic literature” from The Chronicles, then the virulent Islamophobia in this children’s series should be. Worse, the anti-Muslim attitude cannot be cut from the series.
It is the series.
It is the lesson being taught.
Narnia is not just about getting Christian concepts like faith and providence in front of malleable children; it is also about sowing the seeds of distrust and disdain of Muslims and their Islamic faith.

That has no place in modern society.

Unless you’re some ultra-right-wing Christian nationalist. Then they’re perfect. Put these seven between your Bible and The Turner Diaries.

The Christian allegories of Narnia include lots of Muslim bashing

C.S. Lewis claimed that he did not set out to make The Chronicles of Narnia a Christian allegory, but that the religious element “pushed itself in of its own accord.”

If you read them in the order in which they were written or published, you can tell.

….

No, we’re not paying for the rest of this trash.

——————-

I have worked with decent Muslims. I’m sorry but who bombed the World Trade Centre? Islam deserves criticism until it can tolerate a secular government.

From the Fandom page:

Calormenes who did good in the name of Tash were really honoring Aslan; likewise, Narnians who did evil in Aslan’s name were in actuality serving Tash. This is made clear in The Last Battle, in which Emeth, an honest Calormene soldier, enters Aslan’s Country.

What this leftist nutjob is saying is that if you criticise Islam, you’re a “Christian nationalist”.

It’s a bit like believing in the integrity of Sam Dastyari or that Islam must be tolerated but your atheism means Christians should be mocked.

Citizenship is also under attack by those engaged in identity politics, who seek special privileges over and above those that apply to the majority of citizens, claiming to be oppressed by that majority. It’s a variant of neo-Marxism, with minorities substituted for the proletariat as the vanguard of revolutionary consciousness.

I don’t know anything about guns – could those who do comment on this piece from TheirABC about the weapons being used in tribal fighting in PNG?

In it are details of a 2004 national audit that found less than half of the 2,300 M16s delivered to the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) in the 1980s and 1990s remained in state armouries.

The report was published in 2005 and at the time noted “soldiers and police provided the most destructive firearms used in crime and conflict in PNG”.

Alpers said the majority of these weapons were obtained through “leaks” from state-owned stocks.

Nearly 20 years later, looking at several videos of the Ambulin tribe, Alpers said there were some notable changes, including a willingness to waste ammunition by firing weapons into the sky, a resource that was once scarce in the highlands.

“The ammunition is much more available now by the sound of it,” he said.

“The dynamics of ammunition supply in the highlands seems to have changed and that has lifted a lid on the potential for more lethal violence.”

In the mid 80’s I was working in Lae. Behind where I lived was a big vacant block, high grass and scrub. This was the time when Friday was “dry” in PNG. To put a brake on those who blew their pay on South Pacific beer instead of feeding their families. It was a regular event say once a month, a cop wagon would set up in that space and flog off confiscated stolen goods and also firearms – to “rascals”. Then one such night a heavy duty Army outfit from POM raided the place and beat the living shyte out of all the cops as well as making other raids around town nabbing them and various senior officers for transport back to POM. Nothing in the papers.

Us expats always suspected ADF involvement. Locals provided the muscle but it was organised too well for them to put it all together.

What a fustercluck:

German frigate inadvertently attempted to shoot down a U.S. MQ-9 Reaper drone on Tuesday night, but the American aircraft was saved by the German’s missiles malfunctioning and falling harmlessly into the sea.

Serious issues are implied for NATO military cooperation and capability after it was revealed one of Germany’s top warships wasn’t informed a U.S. drone was operating in its area, attempted to shoot it down, and failed.

They can’t even do friendly fire properly. Meanwhile, Europe is shipping its hardware and ordnance to Ukraine willy nilly.

Maybe that’s why Ukraine is losing.

Im sure this new law fart wont have any unintended consequences at all.
Not even one.
Never happen.

The Queensland government is planning to introduce new “police efficiency” laws that would empower officers to issue on-the-spot year-long domestic violence protection orders, amid ongoing political pressure to devote more frontline resources to youth crime.

Documents leaked to Guardian Australia show the state intends to announce police “modernisation measures” in mid-March, including legislative amendments allowing officers to impose immediate protection orders for up to 12 months without having to make an application to a court.

I suspect this will be a a simple tick box “which one has a cock”

A consultation document – which has not been publicly released – says a trial of the new measures would include “safeguards” designed to prevent misidentification of the person most in need of protection.

Yup, no chance of abuse at all

“Cross orders” – a process where both parties are made subject to conditions, which has proved problematic in the past – would not be allowed.

In effect the cops can impose this without judicial review of any sort.

Taylor Swift’s managers sure know how to maximise the bucks with minimal effort:

Tens of thousands of Swifties are flying into Singapore over the next week because of a deal the city-state government struck to be the only South-East Asia country to host Taylor Swift.

Fresh off her record-breaking seven-night tour in Melbourne and Sydney, the pop queen is doing six sold-out shows at Singapore’s national stadium.

It will match the run that British rock group Coldplay did at the same venue in January.

But the singer-songwriter’s appeal is so great that the taxpayers of Singapore are paying to ensure she only plays there, much to the chagrin of fans in neighbouring countries.

The slate of shows will bring a financial windfall for hotels, restaurants and airlines.

But it has meant fans from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines have had little choice but to fork out thousands of dollars in flights and accommodation to see their idol.

A weird thing about this story is a photo of female fans wearing hijabs. Surely the scantily-clad pop star is haram?
