In agreeing to help Ten defend the defamation case, Ms Higgins said the network was not to make any offer to Lehrmann to pay him damages, retract the articles, make an apology or pay his legal costs.

The manoeuvrings in this case are bizarre.
Britnah saying she will only appear if Ten didn’t settle (I had been wondering why they hadn’t made an offer, but now we know).
Her brief, Zwier, saying she won’t appear if Ms Crysanthou represents Wilko.
What a shit-show.

must annoy you that there’s plenty of ‘come back calli’ and nothing of ‘come back Elizabeth’.

I like Cassie and Lizzie and wish both would come back, we need many and varied opinions and comments which make for lively discussions. I expressed my wish for Calli’s return as I have a particular affinity with her attitudes and life experiences and miss her contributions. I didn’t mean to leave out anyone.

The price-performance ratio of the T-90 needs to be considered in their relative price and supply during main production against their time to be repaired or built new now.

Only 60/270 (roughly) have been produced post-invasion. At least 34 have been destroyed. Oryx says about 100.

If the UK, which is supposed to be “clean” of corruption has its missiles fail so badly, what state would Vlads be in?

I would not want to be reliant on old soviet technology, but after the what we’ve learnt about our own countries in the last couple of years, I wouldn’t place too much faith in our own propaganda.

Pogs,
It was Vic Dominello

Wiki:
On 18 August 2021, while fronting the media in a press conference, Dominello’s face was seen to be drooping and he was blinking slowly with his left eye. Concerned viewers contacted his office to urge him to seek medical help, which he did later that afternoon and was diagnosed with Bell’s palsy.[25] On subsequent days, he wore an eyepatch to prevent infection.[26]

Madness. Nuclear war over a corrupted money laundering scam.

If Ukraine falls, NATO will have to fight Russia — Secretary Austin

Like Really? It’s perfectly fine for the dictator and his cocksuckers to be making threats about nuclear attacks on the West every 24 hours or so during the last 2 years. Like how a big bomb dropped in close proximity would cause a tsunami and thereby drowning the UK .

Russian nuclear threats every 24 hours is fine. NATO also drawing a line in the sand. Oh my gosh, how could they do such a thing!

During the defamation case, Justice Lee was less than impressed when it was revealed that Higgins’ had originally insisted that she would not cooperate with the case if Sue Chrysanthou was involved. To which Lee noted that if he was still at the bar and a witness demanded similar he would have subpoenaed him/her.

Thanks Alamak! That was my point about the huge European plain. By the time the Russians managed to get the equipment to the front line huge losses would have been incurred because the USA has 3900 aging Tomahawks, plus a range of new missiles, and a proposed mass delivery method by transport aircraft, repeated attacks by Eurofighters, Tornadoes, B 52s(stand off), Lancers, stealth bombers, and ground based missile attacks. It suffered huge losses just in Ukraine, in this scenario exponentially larger losses.

So it’s going to use them all on Russia and leave nothing for China, Iran, or any other threat? Leaving aside the Tomahawks already being used up elsewhere, how many are already sequestered for nukes?

I trust you are aware that Tomahawks are so 20th century and the USA now has much more capable missiles including very long range stealth missiles. That Iran is still using F14s and even worse F45s. That China has is facing an economic crisis and the USA has hundreds of super hornets, F16s, and F15s stationed in SE Asia. That the USA has long maintained a military strategy of being able to fight at least two major wars. If the USA can afford to drop 100 precision weapons on ragheads in huts, launch hundreds of sorties in Yemen, and simultaneously maintaining a presence across the world, while Russia is struggling with just one war against a country 10% of its size less than 5% of NATO military capacity, that your argument is little more than wishful thinking.

IIRC, Russia has entire military units dedicated to repairing railways/trains under combat conditions. Railways are quite difficult to put out of action for any great length of time.
What are you going to take out the railways with? Can’t use fighter bombers, subsonic cruise missiles are vulnerable to AA missiles and radar guided flak guns and even theatre ballistic missiles can be shot down/GPS spoofed. INS probably won’t get you enough accuracy to cut a rail line at hundreds of kilometers.

Well, that’s a big fkg problem. It’s the ONLY problem that matters….. air superiority, trains, tanks will all be forgotten once the nukes start dropping.

Yep. Putin has made crystal clear that nukes are off the agenda unless the very existence of Russia is threatened. That doesn’t mean some border incursion that is fended off, but refers to the wholesale invasion of Russian territory. I would add that this approach/policy is uniform with every nuclear armed country on the planet.

JC
Mar 1, 2024 2:18 PM
In any event, the idea of a conventional war with the West or NATO is unrealistic….. a response from NATO, in which case Russia would no longer exist. It doesn’t mean the West wouldn’t be hurt, but Russia would be gonesky.

It depends which nation fired nukes first. If it was, say, the UK, that small island nation would cease to exist under the Russian retaliation. If other NATO nations engage (if they hadn’t already) the Russian response would mean most of the entire European continent would be permanently uninhabitable. Yes, Russia would be ‘gonesky’ but it would be 1000 years before humans could occupy Berlin, Paris, London and a host of others cities/countries again. On the plus side, Brussels would be wiped from the map.

Even those not directly targeted, such as the Swiss, will be devastated due to nuclear fallout.

The cynic in me says that the USA would not fire nuclear weapons in the belief that Russia will not fire nukes on them – meaning the USA survived the nuclear exchange. Ditto China. As for the Indians/Pakis, not so sure. Israel – who knows.

My point JC is that the West will be more than just hurt – the entire European continent, as we know it, will cease to exist.

Beijing Silent Over Russia’s Reported War-Gaming of China Invasion (29 Feb)

Beijing has maintained silence on the leaked Russian military documents revealing the Kremlin’s plan to use a tactical nuclear weapon against China during a conflict-like scenario.

The documents revealed that President Vladimir Putin’s forces have conducted rehearsals for the use of such weapons early in a conflict with a major world power, including scenarios for an invasion by China, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Affairs did not answer emails and calls seeking comment.

Russia’s LNG Cargoes Bound for China Avoid the Red Sea (28 Feb)

Russia has started diverting its LNG cargoes away from the Suez Canal and is using the longer route to China via the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, amid a higher risk of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, according to LSEG data cited by Reuters on Wednesday.

The longer route from Russia’s Yamal LNG project to China via Africa instead of the Suez Canal adds around 10 days to the travel time for LNG cargoes to reach their destinations in China and return to Russia, tying up more LNG tankers for longer periods at sea.

Sounds like Russia isn’t entirely sure that their alliance with Iran will guarantee safe transit of the Red Sea. Admittedly an LNG tanker would make nice TikTok video when hit by a missile.

Ok. As I mentioned, the cynic in me says that the US wouldn’t fire nukes as they have previously said that they will not use nuclear weapons first. Nukes are (rightly) a weapon of absolute last resort. The USA believe their conventional forces, manufacturing base and population (number of men eligible for military service in war time) are sufficient to overcome any armed incursion against them. Ok, fair enough.

So, if the US didn’t fire a nuke at Russia and made plain they don’t intend to unless Russia fires first, the USA could be the ‘last man standing’ whilst the European continent glows in the dark.

Having said that, I hope to Christ we never find out.

Probaby a good idea for the Russians to avoid the Red Sea. The Chinese seem ok with it though. I think Iran just lurves all the oil Mr Xi buys from them, any Houthi who accidentally pots a Chinese ship will wish they and all their family had never been born.

Have to think the Saudis are getting a bit annoyed with this rubbish, since a lot of their port capacity is in the west. They sell oil to China too.

If the USA can afford to drop 100 precision weapons on ragheads in huts, launch hundreds of sorties in Yemen,

And still not opening the Red Sea? Notice the problem?

while Russia is struggling with just one war against a country 10% of its size less than 5% of NATO military capacity, that your argument is little more than wishful thinking.

Projection, butressed by useless stats, while ignoring what I have already mentioned. Moreover, every first hand account I’ve listened to by Western mercs on return has admitted that the conflict in Ukraine is like nothing they’ve experienced.

You are ignoring the one insurmountable problem Russia has. It can’t fight a war on 4 fronts.

Exactly, a system of moving tanks thats easily observable and would result in them being destroyed en route or when they arrive so as to snarl up the logistics chain even further.

I’m sorry but that is ridiculous. You are not moving tanks, SPGs, troops, ammo, etc. over distances of 100s or 1000s of km without rail.

Perhaps I should have been more specific. The tanks and other heavy gear can only be moved by rail and reading in AFR it seems the Ukr secret service is doing pretty well(with CIA help) tracking & attacking Russian logistics.

Whoa, Beirut had 2750tonnes of AN. It only caught fire then exploded later. The damage was impressive.

Rubymar (if AN) has 147,000tonnes of the stuff aboard. Better hope it’s been contaminated by seawater rather than even one hold by diesel.

The Dow Breaks Out to New High Closing

“The Dow exceeded the January high and closed February at 38,996.39. The NASDAQ composite has yet to exceed the 2021 high despite the AI Bubble. This still reflects the international capital flows, and our Chaos Models show there will be a trend emerging with a gap between the main turning points ahead. The atmosphere of WAR is impacting the market and the capital flows. Comments from Macron calling to send in troops to Ukraine to prevent somehow its fall, which is inevitable, has only led Putin to say that then opens the door to nuclear warfare.

They are determined to start a war this summer before the 2024 US elections. Both European leaders, NATO, and the Neocons are living in sheer terror of a Trump victory, for he is anti-war, CBDCs, and climate change. If they cannot prevent Trump from taking the White House, I fear they will assassinate him, for there is way too much at stake for these people. I would be very concerned about July, for things appear to be heating up and going into Panic Cycles in many markets come August/September.

We have reached our target of 40,000 we set back in 2011. Our resistance now in the Dow, given a continued rally, is forming at the 42,000-43,000 area. Exceeding that overhead barrier opens the door to a test of 50,000.”

Re the best tipple to enjoy the bonhomie at this wonderful establishment, I’m reading the book From Blenheim to Chartwell: The untold story of Churchill’s houses and gardens, by Stefan Buczacki.

In the re-building of Chartwell, the owner incurred a great deal of expense, which resulted in much and heated argument about who should pay, given the extent of the rectification work that seemed to keep going.

At one point, and to be experienced on more than this occasion (1926) economies were required.

‘…domestic staff would be reduced, no bill was to be paid without Churchill personally approving it, there would be no more champagne, no port was to be opened without special instruction, cigars would be reduced to four per day, no fruit would be bought other than on special occasions, there would be no cream, two courses and a sweet only for dinner and one for luncheon; visitors would be invited only rarely…It was all frankly ludicrous; and for a man whose bills for vintage Pol Roger champagne, port and cigars alone regularly exceeded all other household expenditure, wholly impractical. So apart from a reduction in the livestock activities, almost nothing changed…’ (pp. 224-225)

Myself saw a few SR88 (SG m16 variant) and SLR’s at times in the Solomon Is when I was there. I was told by local employees that there’s plenty of guns all over that Region due to the instability in Bougainville. That was over 20 years ago now so possibly different.

Got tipped off and doing a runner?

A man suspected of being the infamous ‘Moore Park rapist’ – who terrorised Sydney by sexually assaulting at least 10 women at knife-point between 1991 and 1993 – has been arrested.

The city’s exclusive Eastern Suburbs were plagued in the early 90s by a man dubbed the ‘Night Stalker’ who would approach women around railway stations asking if they were interested in modelling or cleaning work before taking them to a secluded area and raping them at knife point.

At least six of his victims were Asian women.

Despite a massive public appeal for information and the establishment of a specialist police task force, the culprit was never caught.

But in a major breakthrough on Friday, NSW Police announced a 60-year-old man suspected of being the ‘Night Stalker’ had been arrested at Sydney International Airport.

Lysander LOL. Sorry, exploration miners and drill crews tend to be very blokey oriented and still are in the smaller players tenements. I’ve met some very interesting characters and tend to remember their anecdotes especially if I have experienced similar.

Believe it or not one of the most fearsome woman I have ever met was in a Muslim nation. Past child bearing but was very outspoken for the region and respected by the body language I came across. The men kept out of her way making me think she was from a prominent family or tribe.

Apparently my truck was driving on City Link in Melbourne without me knowing.

When my late mother was still driving she showed me a speeding fine she got and pointed out that she had never been to where the notice said she was speeding. I rang Service NSW or whatever they called themselves at the time and related my mother’s story. I also asked if they could have a look at the camera image pointing out that my mother’s car was a little white Suzuki. The person came back to me and said not to worry about the fine, it was being cancelled. Obviously machines are not that good at reading number plates and there are no double checks with the vehicle’s specifications.

The Filipino fines section member must have had a night on the turps.
Wrong plate reading I was told. The invoice is now in dispute – great terminology for their stuff up.

I’d wager no human eye set sight on the photo before the fine was issued.

Artificial “intelligence.”

In the re-building of Chartwell, the owner incurred a great deal of expense, which resulted in much and heated argument about who should pay, given the extent of the rectification work that seemed to keep going.

There is actually a title “No More Champagne” by David Lough, on the parlous state of Churchill’s finances – he lived most of his life, until 1940, on the edge, financially.

Exactly. Churchill lost a lot of his money in the Wall Street Crash of 1929.

Because in Australia, nobody with any brains has gone into politics for a long time. Politics is for people for whom status, prestige, and the opportunity to bully people is really important. Nobody with intelligence puts much value on these things. They are for the empty headed.

BON, I agree. Rowland called Metas move “a threat to journalism”

What they are really saying is that Meta’s history on “curating” news has been to relentlessly push left leaning news sites.
This will now disappear.

The US is getting a few million invaders a year. It has considerable debt. It’s leaders are corrupt and have no interest in their people. Look how it’s gone in the last thirty years and project this continuing for another century.

The Chinese may not survive either, but they plan to. One way or another. And a century to defeat the West is nothing much.

Yep. President Xi knows that he may not necessarily live to see the emergence of the East over the West but he sees his role as, in large part, setting up China to take its ‘rightful place’ in the world order. If it takes another 50 years, so be it. 100 years, ok. But there is nothing more certain in the minds of the Chinese leadership and bureaucracy.

As we shift ever more to a multi-polar world, China sees itself straddling the assorted divides as the indisputable global power.

Apparently, my Mazda MX5 was parked on Park Street in Sydney one Christmas time while I was many many miles away somewhere else. Long story but I managed to convince the “authorities’ that they had got it wrong.

No apology or anything. R soles.

IIRC there was a case or two several years ago where a vehicle was clocked by a camera in (say) Melbourne, the fine sent to the vehicle owner in (say) Sydney.
Big kerfuffle.
Turned out there were cases of two states having the exact same number plate.

HELP loans: Pressure on Government to shield Australia’s ‘young and bright’ from student debt hikes
Katina Curtis
The West Australian

Comments

Pressure is mounting on the Government to shield people with student debts from huge hikes amid the cost-of-living crisis, with one crossbencher saying it looks like ministers just don’t “get it”.

At the moment, HELP loans are adjusted annually on June 1, meaning the debt continues to increase without taking into account what people have already paid off in tax during the financial year.

The debts, also known by their old name of HECS, are tied to inflation rather than wage growth. Last year, that meant the average loan of $22,636 grew by nearly $1600.

Crossbenchers including Dai Le and teal independents Zoe Daniel and Allegra Spender have urged the Government to fix this by immediately adopting recommendations from its Universities Accord.

The expert review of higher education, released on Sunday, says changing the date of indexation on student loans to come into effect post-tax time would reduce the length of repayments. It also says that linking them to either inflation or wage growth, whichever was lower, would ensure debts did not outpace growth.

Ms Le says the recommendations looked great — but now the Government had to act.

“I know of young people who are in the workforce at the moment, who are still paying off their $60,000 HECS debt. Now, they’re not going to be able to get a loan to buy a house,” the Western Sydney MP told The West Australian.

“Unless you’re living in that community, are from a community like Fowler, you don’t understand the other challenges, such as rent, electricity prices, soaring food costs, transport.”

Last year, amid soaring inflation, Ms Le proposed the government freeze indexation on student debts at pre-pandemic levels. The idea was knocked back.

Ms Le said she believes policies such as the amended stage three tax cuts are good, but they won’t help the “young and bright”.

This week she asked Prime Minister Anthony Albanese when he would act on student debts, but his answer instead focused on tax cuts and aged care wage increases.

“For the Prime Minister to not really answer the question around the HECS indexation for young people, how much is he thinking about the youth of this country?” Ms Le said afterwards.

“If they got it, they would have addressed that in some of the policies by now. I don’t think they get it.”

The next generation of the clan received an ultimatum. “You want to study commerce, medicine, agriculture, engineering, law, something relevant, the clan meets your HECS debt. You want to study lesbian dance or underwater basket weaving, you are on your own.

Definitely so.

The ACT has been using plates starting with “Y” for many years, NSW started using such plates around 20 years ago, which led to an ACT driver complaining about a fine when he had been nowhere near Sydney. I have no doubt that overlap with rego plates between states is now very common.

Breitbart had this headline:
Jean-Pierre on Riley Death: ‘We Have Done the Work’ on Border and GOP Got in the Way
They would not publish my comment:
Why are all demorat black women horrible humans?

I would say the arrogance of these women is due to the DEI hiring policies. They know they will get the job no matter how awful they are and that getting fired is unlikely.

They were polite and competent when they had to compete with everyone else on equal terms. In the end DEI is very destructive to the very people it purports to be helping.

The CCP doesn’t care about the demographics. As long as they’re in charge, and there are enough people to bully, it’s fine. A population of a few dozen million is plenty.

One of my mums most pleasurable moments in winding up dads estate was telling one of the minions at the Vic state revenue office that a speed camera fine would not be paid as the recipient has passed.

The drone there wanted proof of name, address from her, one other intrusive piece of proof of her identity that I can’t remember and the death certificate. Mum by then had enough of dealing with government and was on the mend from the loss very politely told them they will receive a copy of the death cert that they have the ability to check and that would be that.

She did just that and never heard from them again.
