OK I was wrong about the UK elections, I could’ve sworn there was one in 1940.
But there were elections in other commonwealth countries equally on war footing.
Scroll down to point 2

Tyrants usually take advantage, others not.

Alright, but you aren’t really addressing my point.
Countries under invasion usually don’t try to conduct elections.

Example:
No election in France in WW1

For Russia though, the economy going gangbusters?

I don’t know, but scoffing at supermarkets being full of goods and people driving new cars and going about their daily business are silly if not actually mean and stupid.

Life went on during WWII everywhere, albeit with sacrifice and doing without.

This conflict is not even on the level of the gulf wars and yet people are talking about the 3rd WW.

The Israeli situation can escalate a lot sooner and engulf a lot more countries with devastating effect if Israel feels it has no other choice.

No one has even suggested this invasion is anywhere near the scale of the war on the eastern front. However, anecdotal observations of this war doesn’t come close to evaluating the impact on the Russian economy. War isn’t good for economic health despite what some people suggest. It’s ultimately destructive.

I didn’t scoff! The available data is paradoxical. The economic data from the Central Bank of Russia, a flat out weapons production capacity and importing weapons from SK, China, and Iran, are not harbingers of good times ahead. Nor is the inability to produce what Putin called the world’s best tank, the Armata, and bring it to the battlefield, the struggling replacement rate of lost fighter aircraft, the running away of the Black Sea fleet because of heavy losses from a country that doesn’t have a navy, the failure to achieve air superiority after so long, boasting about a so called stealth fighter that won’t penetrate Ukrainian air space(on the first night of the Gulf War F-117s were over Baghdad)and that Ukraine is still fielding Buk and other cold war SAMs. Not good signs.

This is where we are today in the “free” world.

@chrispavlovski

I’m a little late to this, but for good reason — I’ve just safely departed from Europe.

France has threatened Rumble, and now they have crossed a red line by arresting Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov, reportedly for not censoring speech.

Rumble will not stand for this behavior and will use every legal means available to fight for freedom of expression, a universal human right. We are currently fighting in the courts of France, and we hope for Pavel Durov’s immediate release.

Just stop and think about it for a minute.
A large chunk of Ukraine’s territory is under occupation.
A large percent of its population is either displaced or on active duty.
Imagine if they tried to hold an elections and people lining up at a polling station got killed either by Russian bombardment or by Ukraine’s counter measures.
Imagine how Russia will act knowing where certain officials have to be on set days.
If you were an election official in the most pro- Ukraine electorate how safe are you knowing the Russians know exactly where and when you have to be to count votes?
Plus the cost, the organisation required the issues of whether results were valid when so many can’t participate. Would such an election even be constitutional if not all electorates can hold them?
All these are why countries don’t usually hold elections while under invasion.

Senator Rennick lost his position on the LNP’s senate ticket at the party’s state conference to party treasurer Stuart Fraser in Brisbane last July.

If you are wondering why Australian politics is not quite operating in the best interests of Australians.

There will be a determined push to fatally degrade Rumble before the US elections get much closer.
Rogan, Carlson, Peterson, Crowder, Oliver, Robinson… the Lizard People will not suffer these heretics to live. Remember what pre-Musk twitter was like, remember Parler being strangled in the crib.
Rumble is remarkable in being just an average streaming platform, glitchy, slow and saturated with ads, but it’s carrying the uncorrupted content that people want.

As I indicated I have no time for either side.

But if Zelensky has no taste or time for elections, he shouldn’t ban ethnic languages or ban a legitimate church either in war time, when he needs the most goodwill of all the citizens.

Makes no sense to me, when unity is required he divides.
I am sure some of the ethnics are against the war but so did the millions of genuine Ukrainians who pissed off to greener pastures.

All I stated was that countries under invasion don’t hold elections usually.
I have no idea about the other matters.
However, I wouldn’t mind if communist parties were banned, so in principle, as long as the correct people get shitcanned, I don’t mind.
There is also precedent for that: we hanged “Lord Haw Haw” after, and banned the British Fascists during WW2.
I doubt the “banned language” thing too.
The history of that is many regimes ban languages in schools: Taiwan stopped teaching in Chinese while the Japanese were in charge, then Japanese banned from being taught when the Chinese took over.
I bet the Russians banned Ukrainian in schools during the Soviet era.
But I haven’t time to look it up because I’m off to bed.
Thanks for the discussion Gabor.

Really, your country is being invaded, and you’d have no problem with Russian being spoken or people adhering to the Russian orthodox church? Let’s backtrack to WW2 and see how Brits, Americans, and Australians would’ve felt about teaching German or Japanese.

For that matter, is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church allowed in Russia, How about the Ukrainian language?

For someone who claims he has no dog in this fight, you do appear to be supporting the Russian regime.

Russian is not banned, Hungarian and Romanian is, in public, few others possibly I am not aware of.
Ethnic schools and and public meeting places were burned.

Whatever, as the wise people say, I’m finished with this, minds once made up, cannot be changed.

Anyone watched the new TV series We who are about to die?

Apparently an ancient Rome 10-parter with Anthony Hopkins in the first two episodes.

Russian is not banned

Huh.

On 13 July 2023, the Kyiv City Council prohibited the usage of “Russian language cultural product” in the city of Kyiv. This includes performance of all Russian language product including books, music, and films, in public.

So really, there’s no such language ban except as explained below.

Despite these shifts, it’s important to note that the Ukrainian government has not officially banned the Russian language or any other minority languages. People are still free to speak Russian or other languages in private and within their communities. However, the public and official use of Ukrainian has been heavily promoted and enforced, especially during the war.

Shocking that the Ukrainian government wants to see Ukrainian being used officially since the invasion.

This appeared in my newsfeed:

North Korean Olympic Medalists Under Kim Jong Un’s Wrath For ‘Unpatriotic’ Smiles With South Korean Rivals

North Korean table-tennis players Kim Kum-yong and Ri Jong-sik are under investigation for their behavior during the Paris Olympics, where their victory photos with athletes from South Korea have sparked controversy in their home country.

Kim Kum-yong is facing scrutiny for smiling in a victory photo with South Korean athletes, who represent North Korea’s rival nation. Ri Jong-sik, Kim’s table-tennis partner, may also face disciplinary action for smiling alongside the gold medal winners from China and bronze medalists from South Korea after the podium ceremony.

Not sure how this will work out under Kim Jong Haircut. In the UK this sort of destabilising shite would earn them 30 months in the clink.

A German Warship, the Braunschweig, sailed up the Thames last Monday and announced its arrival by blasting the Darth Vader theme from Star Wars.
hahahahaha

The ship also played “London Calling”, by the Clash upon it’s arrival in the UK.

Krauts with a sense of humour, who knew? 😀

Watch the clip in the article, it’s pretty cool actually.

Most excellent trolling. I liked the suggestions at the tail end of the piece, but surely ACDC’s “Thunderstruck” has a place on the list.
