I’ve seen plenty of these in my travels in less than salubrious locations (the military tend not to send people to London, Paris or the Greek Islands).
It’s indeed unfortunate that the governments of these places didn’t have the electronic means to attach a QR Code to this sign and link it to every tourist’s private information. They could have provided the ‘proprietors’ the means to enforce this ‘libertarian’ edict.
I believe that a Bakery shouldn’t be forced to make something that they don’t usually produce, so naturally, I believe in the administrators right to check on, and enforce this stipulation, right?
Wrong! When I ask any business to provide me with something that they wouldn’t have provided me, had I been vaccinated, I’ll support their right to deny me service. Until then…
Yes, this is a distasteful post, but sometimes extremes are needed to prove a point. Believe me, I find this whole concept of discrimination, based on what should be private information, thoroughly distasteful. The Government should be excoriated for even hinting at its legitimacy, let alone providing the means by which it can be enacted and enforced.
If we are required to provide physical medical evidence which will divide us into one of two groups, the privileged and the peasants, we are only one step removed from wearing that classification on our shirts. The only reason it wasn’t required in South Africa was that skin colour was so obvious.
Update:
This takeaway shop, in Victoria, has it right. They’ll get my custom:
It reads:
“Face Masks are now mandatory for all Victorians.
If you are not wearing a face mask we will assume you have a Lawful Excuse or Exception.
Out of respect for your privacy we will not be asking for details of your Lawful Excuse or Exception.”
If this idiocy goes ahead, I predict a rash of fake documents/software hacks. You can’t force everyone to use a smartphone, so it will be the odious “papers please”. For how long? And will there be an entire police force out there paid to check? Every. Single. Time. ?
The logistics alone are mind boggling.
If it gets into biometrics to ensure security, that’s a whole different can of nano wrigglers.
The predictable effects of the vaccination passport are starting to make themselves known.
UK Ticket Sales “Flatlining” As Rebellion Against Vaccine Passports Grows (7 Sep)
Yep, all that is happening is people who refuse to be vaccinated are finding other things to do with their time. Nudging doesn’t work because the decision is a strong personal one.
And as well as nightclubs having a dearth of patrons many industries are finding their employees are taking off rather than being forced to be vaccinated. So there are labour shortages.
And no it isn’t a VRWC as we’re seeing with the stories about unions taking on bosses who require vaccination. I doubt that is getting much reporting, since it is a conflict of lefty doctrines that the MSM is probably feeling uncomfortable about. Yesterday it was the Telstra union, last week it was truckies.
Even in tiny Monaco last weekend…where there are only six thousand native Monegasques, there was a demonstration against compulsory vaccination and the health pass….a demonstration attended by about eight hundred people.
* Mater…that picture is transphobic…such an assumption that only “women” menstruate!
The third world is yet to catch up with post-modernism.
“The third world is yet to catch up with post-modernism.”
Let’s hope they never do!
It is the latest method to virtue ones signal.
Unlike the “pride colours” and BLM etc filters on a facebook page, this will manifest in the physical world.
They’re working on it.
From The Atlantic:
“Intrastate travel within Australia is also severely restricted. And the government of South Australia, one of the country’s six states, developed and is now testing an app as Orwellian as any in the free world to enforce its quarantine rules. Returning travelers quarantining at home will be forced to download an app that combines facial recognition and geolocation. The state will text them at random times, and thereafter they will have 15 minutes to take a picture of their face in the location where they are supposed to be. Should they fail, the local police department will be sent to follow up in person. “We don’t tell them how often or when, on a random basis they have to reply within 15 minutes,” Premier Steven Marshall explained. “I think every South Australian should feel pretty proud that we are the national pilot for the home-based quarantine app.”
P.S. That article is devastating to Australian prestige. The effect on our sovereign risk rating must be significant.
It’s illegal to ask that question, but it’s still good to see that common decency prevails somewhere in Victoria.
Meanwhile, diggers from Townsville involved in the Afghanistan evacuation mission are stranded in Dubai after the QLD government refused to make extra room for them in hotel quarantine as they did for NRL players and their entourages.
I guess they don’t contribute to the economy.
Nine news ran a piece the other evening on this topic, showing how easily it can be done. The same Nine news last night was positively salivating at the prospect of the home quarantine phone app, currently being used in Adelaide to the horror of civilized people around the world, being introduced in Victoria.
From the people who brought you Snowtown.
The only reason 1984 was futuristic when George Orwell wrote it in the 1940s is that government was not yet big enough to make the nightmare real. Now it is.
Watch the rozzers now descend on that shop. They won’t have any problem asking for mask exemption documents.
And fine people accordingly.
That’s why I was deliberately vague as to it’s location.
That 15 minutes thing, do they get woken up at 3 in the morning?
There is a huge limit to how much intrusion is warranted.
Quarantine in most countries is so yesterday.
Australia.
if its as effective as the current bloke lazily manning the door to ensure you’re QR coding, then it’ll be just as useless.
A lazy wave of the phone in the general direction of a poster satisfies him.
BTW, NSW plod has just mandated vaccines – the union has rolled over and asked for its tummy to be rubbed – I wonder how that will go with the members.
They know who you are, Mater. They know you’re unlikely to travel miles for a coffee/bun/takeaway. They’ll find it in 5 minutes. Will they plant a slug? Will they check someone’ location, test them positive and declare it a hotspot? Will they target the employer or employees in some way? So many options for psychopaths. Today I shall be rewarding businesses in a similar manner. Good work, Mater.
Quick quiz for Cats – who gets most commenters on their blog – doughnut boy or your old sparring partner? Or do they get equal numbers? Do your calculations on the fingers of one hand.
Of course they do. They’ve tried to recruit me several times.
I’m better at this stuff than them.
😉
It was amusing to see Vic health minister Foley asked at a presser yesterday whether the jab should be mandatory for schoolteachers. Normally red-hot for mandatory vaccine regimes in workplaces, this time he hemmed and harred evasively. Teachers’ union, anyone?
This is heartening. For a while I thought it was just me against the myrmadons.
Need a lot more pushback though..
About that app…….if you don’t have a smartphone, will the government supply one or will the law include a clause that you have to buy one?
Asking for a friend.
Seems that the way around all this is to just say you don’t have a smartphone and force the venue to comply with paperwork…..they can just add that to their bottom line.
My phone is old (six – practically geriatric) and can’t use the NSW app.
I have had a lot of fun signing myself in as Lucinda Wortlebottom and so on.
Hey, in this day and age, we are whoever we identify as, right?
I don’t QR anywhere if I can avoid it. I’m vaxxed so covid is no longer my problem.
Calli:
Oh Dear, Calli.
Now you’ve let the wriggly things out of the can!
One can see – dimly, of course, – just why the WZV was so appallingly dealt with.
