Colour blind in the trenches

I was watching Fox News earlier today. The names of six of the thirteen American soldiers killed in Kabul had been revealed. Their names and pictures of them were shown. It was clear enough that of the six, five were white.  Or so it appeared to me. Ordinarily, this would be a completely irrelevant observation. In fact, one out of place. What does it matter what colour they are? Brave men serving their country lost their lives.  But the execrable comments of Milley came to mind.

I wondered whether any of them suffered from “white rage” of the kind that General Mark Milley, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, claimed he was interested in exploring. Did any of them have white privilege I wonder, and how exactly did it help them.

Critical race theory, white rage, white privilege only exist in minds remote from the ordinary business of life, suffering and death, which is quite colour blind. And definitely remote from a battalion of soldiers fighting the enemy. I dare say the colour of your mate’s skin is the last thing on your mind. Milley, you would think, would know that. How people in his position come to think as he does is beyond me.

I like the sentiment, but it’s unfortunately not really true. Maybe once the fighting starts. Maybe.
Training with US marines in 2008, I can tell you, at the chow lines they self segregate on racial lines.
Whites sit at tables with whites, there’s a black table and there’s the hispanics too.
Weird for Australians, but it’s how they are.
I found the Hispanics the friendliest and most like Aussies.

I reviewed that Milley testimony of the other week. And was astounded at the lack of logic. God help us!

He said that he had read Marx, Mao, etc … and that that didn’t make him a communist.

Fair enough. I’ve read Marx, a little bit of Mao, plus fragments of Mein Kampf. I continue to loathe Marxism, Maoism and Nazism.

But then he said that he’d studied Critical Race Theory (CRT) too, so what’s wrong with that, since he’s not a Marxist because he’s studied Marx?

What’s wrong with that is that, Milley went directly on to explicitly ENDORSE CRT, and bang on about “White Rage” as if it were a correct thesis. And then defended every American soldier being compelled to study it … because, by implication, it was correct.

“Yeah, I’ve studied Marx, but that doesn’t make me a Marxist, you idiot. So I think we should study CRT too … because … I’m a CRT advocate!”

With friends like these in the highest of places, who needs enemies?
