““Better Call Shane””

I’d rather go to Saul for legal advice than Shane.

Further to Shane, I think people need to understand that none of this travesty is surprising, that Shane Dumgold represents progressive politics to a tee, and just how much progressives are degrading and corrupting everything in this country, particularly our legal system, and this is why Janet has been on the case from the beginning, because she, a lawyer who now works in journalism, actually cares about such quaint legal ideas as due process and the presumption of innocence. She watched in dismay as both were trashed with the Pell lynching, and then along comes the Lehrmann allegation, along with Porter, Laming and Tudge. But the malfeasance with Bruce Lehrmann ranks with Pell, Bruce is just lucky he didn’t end up in a cell. Remember it was Janet A who also scrutinised and revealed the ravings of the dead woman on the Porter case. Everything about the Lehrmann travesty, from day one, with the involvement of the poisonous Amphibian and her ghastly pirate partner, with our very own Bonnie and Clyde aka Knickers and Shazza, with the gruesome Katy Gallagher and the two other nauseating mean girls, one of whom now has a son facing serious charges, and the involvement of media whores such as Samantha Maiden (up to her neck with the Porter allegation) and Laura Shingle Dingle, and then along comes Shane, who clearly thought this would be his moment in the sun, when he could join in the club to be finally rid of those dastardly Liberal government. From day one it reeked progressive malfeasance. All of them, every single effing one of them, saw this as their opportunity to destabilise and undermine a Coalition government, and it worked a treat. A week or two ago JC asked, rightly, if it really did sway people’s votes in last year’s federal election. I think it did, because people were fed a lie that the Liberals had a women problem, and that it’s a party of sex offenders, adulterers and so on. The MSM ran with it. From early November 2020, when the Four Corners smear piece appeared, then in February and March 2021 when the Higgins and Porter rubbish appeared, right through to May 2022, the Liberals were unable to gain any electoral traction. Remember, Morrison’s poll numbers were high in late 2020. Labor, Greens and the left were desperate. But it was Scumbag and his inept government that made it worse, they simply refused to fight fire with fire, at the beginning, when the Higgins allegations broke, they should have and they could have come out swinging at Labor by mentioning the Shorten allegation. They didn’t, when you’re in a pit with a bear, you can’t stand idly there waiting for the bear to kill you, you have to bring out the gun.

I live in Wentworth, and in February 2022 I was asked to attend a focus group about the forthcoming election. The focus group was made up of 6 women (including myself) and six men. Four out of the six men were reasonable, but two men, along with five of the women, were going on about the Liberal Party being a nest of sex offenders and criminals, with one nauseatingly sinus ridden female moron saying that there was a “rapist in the Liberal government”. I was aghast at the idiocy and malice in the room. I waited for the moderator to say something to the woman, he didn’t so I piped up about presumption of innocence and that, okay then, let’s talk about the alleged rapist in the Labor Party, and the Labor Party has a long history of adulterers, and covering up and protecting sex offenders, including pedophiles. There was silence, and then the moderator smacked me down. I was gobsmacked. So, yes, I do believe it swayed voters, particularly in Teal electorates and in some marginals. Look, the Coalition government was tired was probably going to lose the May 2022 election anyway, but all of this malfeasance around Lehrmann and Porter and others contributed to the loss.

The Oz is reporting that Reynolds is proceeding with her defamation against Higgins.

Liberal senator Linda Reynolds has followed through on her threat to sue Brittany Higgins over allegedly defamatory social media posts and has filed a writ this morning in the Western Australia Supreme Court

According to the writ, Senator Reynolds is suing Ms Higgins for aggravated damages over a July 4 Instagram story and a July 20 tweet which she claimed were defamatory of her. Senator Reynolds will also sue her former staffer for breach of contract.

Good.

The Amphibian, Higgins, Sharaz, Gallagher, Wong, Dumgold, and all the rest of the progressive scum involved in this tawdry affair, deliberately unleashed a whirlwind, thinking that they could be its master. Nobody can control a whirlwind, and now that whirlwind is swallowing them. Or to put it more simply, all I’d say to Shane is….

Karma Shane, karma.

I lost my Leatherman mini to Perth airport security. They wouldn’t be short of Christmas gifts at the end of the year. Truth be told it was just a glorified letter opener.

We were waiting at Perth airport for our flight to Bali (Jetstar). The inevitable happened, the flight was cancelled and we were ushered (no, “herded” is a better word) back to the check-in area via back doors and passageways. “Pick up your belongings and move — NOW!”

People, including us, all on mobile phones booking new flights.

Back upstairs, through security and … everyone with duty-free booze from the cancelled flight had it confiscated. Not allowed. Verboten. No pleading or threatening helped.

I had, fortunately, run (literally) back to the duty-free upstairs and left mine there, so it was waiting for me. Jetstar gave us all a voucher to compensate us … $25 … specifically excluded from being used to buy alcohol.

Britnah has got bigger problems than Reynolds defamation action.
Sofronoff has basically cleared Reynolds, Brown (the CoS) and DoD security of any wrongdoing, even inadvertent or careless wrongdoing.
Which completely blows up the basis of Britnah’s payout.

A week or two ago JC asked, rightly, if it really did sway people’s votes in last year’s federal election.

Of course it did.
The accompanying whispering campaign on Twatter and elsewhere was the left’s equivalent of “red shoe pizza in tunnels”.
A bunch of righteous blue-rinse matrons in Liberal seats unleashed their inner Gloria Steinem and voted Teal on the back of it.
They will resume their Martha Stewart persona at the next election.

Pokes head out if dark online tunnel: “Is this thing on?”

Tip for dealing with Telstra tech support about computers: avoid it at all costs. Your most valuable document is the vendor’s receipt: if you need a nerd to get you going, go back to the mob who sold you your computer: at least they’re trying to make sales and create happy customers.

Tom, I also found that out the hard way last year. After all my attempts failed I packed up the new laptop and the new printer and drove back to Harvey Norman. Their geek was wonderful, connected everything and got it working. He also gave me detailed instructions what to do when I got home. Finally he said if all else fails connect the two devices with “this” cable. It’s been good ever since.

Human remains found in recovery mission for crashed military MRH-90 Taipan helicopter in Whitsundays

Human remains have been found during an underwater search for the missing Defence helicopter that crashed in Queensland’s Whitsundays nearly a week ago.

Australian Defence Force Joint Operations Chief Lieut Gen. Greg Bilton confirmed more debris has been found during the recovery mission, including the cockpit of the MRH-90 Taipan chopper and unidentified human remains.

It comes just three days after authorities acknowledged all hope of finding the four crew — Capt Danniel Lyon, Lieut Maxwell Nugent, Corp. Alexander Naggs and Warrant Officer Class Two Joseph Laycock — alive had been lost.

Navy divers and a remotely operated underwater vehicle have taken part in the search for the chopper wreckage, which is spread across hundreds of square metres of the ocean floor.

Distributism often has poor economic reasoning behind it, but it also posits important points about the role of economies in a just society.

Efficiency must be tempered by the protection of communities and human dignity. Public policies should encourage institutions that facilitate human flourishing.

…….it’s disgusting to see the $$$$ corruption taking precedence over the lives of soldiers and civilians. All to ensure the obscene Biden’s continue to profit…..

100%. The losses, on both sides, are sad to read and some of the battlefield drone footage is quite disturbing with large numbers of men either dead or dying. It appears that Ukraine’s losses are significantly greater than Russian losses.

It is obvious that Russia believes it can ‘outlast’ the West whilst the West (read the USA) is engaged in a far larger geopolitical strategy (which Russia also understands). Then ,we have the military arms manufacturers who are enjoying increased sales whilst the Western military get the chance to ‘war game’ scenarios and use weapons in actual battle conditions – not some pretend exercise in a friendly country. Yippee. Anybody who doubts the saying “fight to the last Ukrainian” hasn’t been paying attention.

Rhetorical, but I wonder whether Zelensky actually realises he is a pawn in a much larger game?

Yet, any talk of a ceasefire much less any form of a negotiated peace is quickly snuffed out. As far back as March/April 2022 we all recall how Boris Johnson scuttled off to Ukraine to torpedo any chance of finishing this thing before it really got started. Then in October, Zelensky issued a decree that forbade negotiations with Russia’s Putin. Uh huh. Might have played well in the West but it was a stupid empty gesture.

Meanwhile, genuinely beautiful cities like Odessa are being bombed as are many others in Ukraine – some of the smaller towns and villages are completely destroyed and are now reduced to being merely a place name on a map. Sometimes, innocent civilians are killed.

Ukraine will not easily recover from this. The population loss of millions of fleeing civilians, many of whom will never return, the loss of young men (either dead, injured or fled Ukraine to avoid the draft) and of course those who have suffered debilitating physical or psychological injury from fighting will be Ukraine’s burden for the next 100 years.

I get it. I understand everything that’s happening, and why, but that doesn’t limit the sadness (frustration?) from witnessing the loss, or debilitating injuries, to so many young lives, on both sides. And for what? This conflict could have been avoided and we all know it.

I have just been reading about German agitation over the rise and rise of AfD. They are so bloody predictable and righteously authoritiran.
It reminded me of a classic bit of Krautism from when we worked in Munich.
An Aussie arrived to work with us for a while on contract. On his first day, the office received a call from his neighbour demanding that he return home immediately to appropriately arrange his washing on the line.
He ignored her and arrived home to discover his washing had been rehung. This game went on for weeks accompanied by over the fence threats and occasional notes.
He soon discovered that she was also playing the Germans’ favourite game – bin spying.
Someone at work warned him to be very careful because she could have him fined.
One day she turned up at his door with a copper accusing him of redistributing the rubbish in her bins. It turned out to be a kid from down the street who she abused regularly when he rode past on his bike.
The key point about Krautism coming out of this is that the cops actually staked out her bins.
They need to be walled in with an entrance for raw materials on one side and another outlet for manufactured car toys on the other.
No external interaction should be permitted.

May I take this opportunity to indulge in a brief rant?

In this Year of Our Lord, 2023, our hospitals seem to no longer employ admissions clerks. The patient needs to do this work for them in the form of Byzantine on-line admission, which assumes a level of technical sophistication far beyond the ken of most people over, say, 60. I am fortunate, for I have spent much of my working life on computers…others not so much.

So we have drop boxes for consent forms which must be scanned as saved in particular modes, a bizarre signature box via mouse (looked nothing like my signature, may as well have been Atilla the Hun’s), vast quantities of seemingly irrelevant tick boxes. Apart from a box for either “husband” or “wife” – in the plethora of possible relationships, this everyday one was relegated to “spouse”.

I was also asked if I knew whether I was male or female or simply didn’t want to commit. A brief scan of past surgeries might have given them a clue, even if I had none.

It did ask me if I had dementia, which common sense would suggest an incapability of filling in the copiously paged form myself anyway.

Oh…and did I suffer from hypertension? I so wanted to say “yes” and in the “details” section state today’s date and the cause – filling out their stupid form and doing their work for them. Unpaid.

I’d like to interject here.

I’d take a climate science approach the Turtleheads near pity trolling about the direction he’d take if he was “bombed” with cancer.
As you know, there’s theory and observation.

Theoretically Turtlehead suggests that if the cancer was serious etc, he would avoid treatment and go into the slow lane. That’s great in terms of theory because who are we to judge this quasi pity trolling?

However, the observations to appear to me to supported by the theory.

I’m pretty certain my recollection is accurate, but he can correct it if it’s not. He loathes me so it would be better if he wants respond to direct it to you, which does anyway. It’s called the indirect stoush trolling method.

Now this is an individual who had a heart transplant, which is seriously major surgery. On top of that he’s no very serious medication to prevent rejection. These surgeries aren’t for the faint of heart, if you know what I mean. (No pun intended).

Twice now, that I know of, Turts has been boasting he’s loaded up to the gills with iodine because he suspects that rural Queensland would be hit with a nuclear attack, presumably from China.

Does this sound like someone giving up, or does it sound like someone clinging to life with every fiber of his being.

To Rosie’s point earlier about the rise and rise of Dumgold.
From Wiki ..

Drumgold commenced work for Australia Post in 1984; in 1993 he completed an Australia Post sponsored Certificate in Business Management through Charles Sturt University. In 1995 he was admitted to the Bachelor of Business Economics degree at Charles Sturt University and graduated in 1999.

Righto.

In 1999, Drumgold applied to the Australian National University and the University of Canberra for admission to the Bachelor of Laws degree. He was rejected by both.

Oh dear.
Waaaacism.

Drumgold then enrolled in the Diploma of Justice Studies at the University of Canberra. After successful completion of the first semester he was admitted to the Bachelor of Laws degree at the same University in 2000. He graduated with honours in 2001.

Graduated in two years?
Rosie speculated about exemptions, but I doubt he could draw many exemptions from a Certificate of Business Management and a BBS (Economics). I’ll give him 2-3 units tops of Corporate Law, Business Law, maybe rudimentary Tax Law.
So it seems he got fast-tracked.
He was working part-time at an Aboriginal Legal Service, so I bet he got waved through a lot of subjects on the basis of that.

In 2001 Drumgold was accepted into the Master’s in International Law Degree at the Australian National University. He graduated in 2004.

Uh-huh.

In 2003 Drumgold was awarded a Churchill Fellowship, studying restorative justice in indigenous communities in the USA, Canada and New Zealand. He published his report in 2004.[5]

So, after all that, his exposure to run of the mill criminal law theory and practice was bugger all.
He only started working in the law in earnest in 2005, and is at the top of the heap in 2019.
(Admittedly, a pretty small heap).

And for Jerk Off Cretin and other cronies, some more Armstrong –

WEF Study–‘My Carbon’: An approach for inclusive and sustainable cities

‘My Carbon’: An approach for inclusive and sustainable cities was released in September 2022, and you were part of the test group. The WEF-funded “research” states cities account for 75% of all carbon emissions. As countless governments abandoned their morality to the Great Reset, cities are on track to reduce emissions by nearly half in the coming years. They even want to limit our personal carbon allowance, assisted by digital IDs and credit scores. Most notable in this paper is that COVID was merely a ploy to test how well the masses would comply.

They found three major developments:

COVID-19 was the test of social responsibility – A huge number of unimaginable restrictions for public health were adopted by billions of citizens across the world. There were numerous examples globally of maintaining social distancing, wearing masks, mass vaccinations and acceptance of contact-tracing applications for public health, which demonstrated the core of individual social responsibility.
Fourth Industrial Revolution technology breakthroughs – Advances in emerging technologies like AI, blockchain and digitization can enable tracking personal carbon emissions, raise awareness and also provide individual advisories on lower carbon and ethical choices for consumption of product and services. The World Economic Forum’s Scale 360 initiative demonstrates the use of fourth industrial revolution technologies across the whole life cycle of products and services.
There have been major advances in smart home technologies, transport choices with carbon implications, the roll-out of smart meters in providing individual choices to reduce their energy-related emissions, the development of new personalized apps to account for personal emissions, and better personal choices for food and consumption-related emissions. AI can also help strengthen circular economy business models like product as a service models, demand predictions, and smart asset management by combining real time and historical data from products and users.

There is a significant number of programs and applications enabling citizens to contribute towards carbon emissions by providing them in-depth awareness on the choices of personal carbon for food, transport, home energy and lifestyle choices.

These energy efficiency apps give suggestions and statistics regarding greenhouse emissions and offer ways to reduce your personal footprint. Keeping track of energy consumption in the home and motivating people to make lifestyle changes and to contribute your share towards the betterment of the environment.

Raised awareness and ownership for nature and environment – In the last few years, there is an increased awareness and public concern on climate change and specially among youth. The UNDP’s “Peoples’ Climate Vote” reflects that over 64% of people believe climate change is a global emergency. A new Pew Research Center survey in 17 advanced economies found widespread concern about the personal impact of global climate change: 80% of citizens say they are willing to change how they live and work to combat the effects of climate change. Young adults, who have been at the forefront of some of the most prominent climate change protests in recent years, are more concerned than their older counterparts about the personal impact of a warming planet in many public surveys.

The first point mentions that they implemented “a huge number of unimaginable restrictions for public health” and billions of citizens across the world blindly followed their guidance. There could have been a mass outcry or revolution, but the people stayed inside and followed instructions obediently.

The second point shows that a portion of the population is now on-board with the green agenda. People have downloaded apps to track their personal energy consumption, and going back to point one, feel a sense of personal responsibility. We saw numerous countries adopt digital IDs during COVID that restricted the movement of the people.

The third step notes that there is a raised awareness, and additional personal responsibility, for the state of the environment. At the time of the publication, a Pew Research Center poll of 17 advanced economies found that 80% of citizens wanted to change how they live and work to fight the effects of weather patterns. As Nicole Schwab stated in her leaked 2020 interview, the youth are at the forefront of this movement, creating climate change protests throughout the world.

So this all breaks down into changing global economic behavior, cognitive awareness, and social norms. We see with the ESG scores that companies are punished for refusing to comply with the green agenda. The study states there are “incentives to reduce demand and improve efficiency,” but all we have seen are punishments. High gas costs, a loss of energy independence, banning gas and coal-powered items. Cognitive awareness is simply a way of saying brainwashing. They want the masses to believe that everything they do creates a carbon footprint that will certainly ruin the entire planet and cause a mass extinction. “They” fly on private jets throughout the week to discuss how the peasants can become a net-zero-carbon society.

Societal norms, the third noted trend, have allowed the Build Back Better crowd to determine what are considered acceptable levels of emissions. The masses want to obey, so those in power are slowly changing what is normal. Coal or wood-fired ovens? Selfish and harmful to society. Personal vehicles? You’re basically a climate war criminal!

None of the policies they wish to implement are normal. Resistance is NOT FUTILE. I, for one, will never be locked down again. I will not comply to climate lockdowns. I will not abandon my ability to move freely in society. I will not allow myself to be brainwashed to accept personal responsibility for naturally occurring cyclical weather patterns. They may have taken advantage of us during COVID, but hopefully, more people are waking up and seeing the truth – rules for thee, not for me.”

In fairness, one of my first platoon commanders is now a Major-General with plenty of braid.

Appalling navigational skills. ‘Dangerous Dave’, we called him. Apparently he can now traverse corridors with ease.

He was still better than the one after that whose nickname was ‘Circles’, again because of the navigational ineptitude that seemed endemic in junior officery types.

M, my GP in Canberra for many years (good bloke and sound doctor) belonged to a men’s bushwalking group, which it turned out that my then boss also belonged to. It came up in conversation in the surgery that the boss was also a member, and M said – ‘He’s a good man to have on a bushwalk. He has an excellent sense of direction.’

One night, over a couple of glasses of wine after work, I relayed this praise to the boss.

He said (he had a PhD in inorganic chemistry, BTW, capacity for preceise thought) – oh, it’s not that. It’s just that I can read maps.

He went on to explain that there was a member of the group who was a Captain in the Army, who insisted on taking charge of navigation, and inevitably got them lost. I, a little old lady with no military experience, can read a contour map. In earlier days, there was a bit of bushwalking involving these.

That was about 20 years ago. I don’t think there’s any doubt that nothing short of a war cleans out the detritus in the military, usually at a terrible cost.

I have an issue with Smirnoff’s comment about Drambuie leaning on the junior to lie. I’m certain he did, and I have no doubts about it. He is, however, giving this so-called junior lawyer a free ride.

She’s a friggin qualified Australian lawyer, for God’s sake, and so understands the ethics and so on. She might have chosen different paths to avoid assisting Drambuie with the deception, and she now gets out on the cheap since she was a junior. As in, WTF?

For lying, she should be caned as hard as Drambuie. Life is difficult, and being a lawyer, whether junior or senior, may be difficult at times.

A very close relative had breast cancer 12 years ago and is free and clear after surgery and radiation. Another in-law was diagnosed about the same time and went down the “quality of life” route.
Now end of days in palliative care.

My own Hairy was diagnosed in 2013 with prostate cancer, Gleeson 7, and after some serious searching of studies by both of us, he settled on the least-invasive treatment with the relatively new brachytherapy, which has left him in 2023 a still sexually-active male (the great fear with other treatments is erectile dysfunction to the point of total inability) free of cancer and so-far ‘cured’ at both the five and the ten-year psa criteria. If he had taken ‘watchful waiting’, often a favoured alternative at his stage of cancer at that time, he would now be dead.

My brother-in-law has had a very debilitating round of chemotherapy for bowel cancer, plus abdominal surgery for it, and his oncologist suggested he cease that chemotherapy due to its very bad effects. He’s started on something less noxious now, and is doing well still.

A dear female friend of mine is winning the battle against a sudden anal cancer (the most undignified thing, she jokes). Its aetiology is via the same virus that causes cervical cancer. That might make the cervical cancer jab worth thinking about. Her chemo has been severe but she is through it now.

Anyone following the Real Life column of Jeremy Clarke in the Spectator would see that a fighting spirit and a desire to enjoy as much of life as possible could surmount whatever chemo or other interventions sent for the opiated bone-pain conclusions of prostate cancer. Until the very end, with his new wife’s loving care.

Treatment must always be a personal decision, with no pressure. It’s your life.

Speaking of adulterers, are there any in the Liars Party who have never hopped into bed with someone not their spouse? Paul Sheehan did a job on NSW Labor many years ago. Some were on at least their third bedmate, all from within the Party.

Husband and I have lately taken to discussing the viability of western society. Not really the normal sort of fireside chat…..but the product of the upheaval of the Covid years and now the prospect of growing global economic peril.

Coming back to Sydney today in the car we especially reminisced about the amazing changes to everyday life in our lifetime. We both recall childhoods in houses with just 2 bedrooms, a bathroom with a bath but no shower. We recall the excitement of moving into a house with an inside toilet, rather than a dunny in the backyard. I recalled that my parents did not get a telephone connected until I had left home and got married. And all those “mod cons” were only when my parents moved to the city after their farm failed in a drought. On our farm we had lacked electricity and made do with kerosene lamps and heating from the slow combustion stove.

It is astonishing to review our lives. Not only are our houses replete with specialised electric and gas appliances, sophisticated furniture and lighting in multiple rooms in houses that are 3 or 4 times the size of the houses of our youth, but they are connected to electronic devices with circuitry that would have powered rockets in our youth. Every sort of food is readily available, although many rely now on food prepared by others in restaurants and takeaway businesses. And the women of the household not only no longer cook, but rely on others to raise their children.

We concluded that such rapid and fundamental changes cannot occur without significant pressures on the ethos of a society.

Information denial used to validate report on commandos
Jack GramenzAAP
Thu, 3 August 2023 1:23PM

An ABC journalist says he reported a platoon of Australian commandos was under investigation for its conduct in Afghanistan because his interpretation of a freedom of information request’s rejection made it more probable than not.

ABC Investigations journalist Josh Robertson told the Federal Court on Thursday the request for documents, rejected to avoid prejudicing a potential investigation, effectively confirmed an investigation was underway.

Robertson said he considered other possibilities aside from a criminal investigation.

“It seemed overwhelmingly more probable that my interpretation was correct,” he said.

Ex-commando Heston Russell is suing the national broadcaster over two articles in October 2020 and November 2021 claiming commandos from the November platoon he led executed an unarmed prisoner in Afghanistan in mid-2012 because there was no room on a helicopter.

As platoon leader, Mr Russell was identified. He denies the allegations and is suing for damages saying his feelings were hurt and his reputation ruined.

The ABC has argued public interest after the Federal Court ruled the articles contained defamatory statements and threw out a truth defence.

Robertson’s name appears alone on the November 2021 article, based on a draft by Mark Willacy and excerpting large portions from his earlier report in October 2020.

Robertson said it was not unusual for him to take the story when the freedom of information (FOI) response came while Willacy was off, and their boss Jo Puccini “flagged that she’d like the story done today”.

Puccini had been contacted by investigators seeking a “highlight reel” of Australian commandos in Afghanistan, and Willacy said investigators were asking him questions too, Robertson said, bolstering his belief.

Willacy suggested Robertson contact Mr Russell, which he also discussed with Puccini.

“Heston Russell had made very clear, very publicly and repeatedly that he was speaking up for his platoon,” Robertson said.

“more probable than not.” For chuck’s steak….

Robertsons are used in a lot of electrical appliances. From memory, I had to get one to service my old Dyson vacuum cleaner. Broke the entire thing down, cleaned it up, reassembled and, hey presto! Worked like a charm.

Not so my wretched Miele clothes dryer. Just had a technician in to have a go at a problem. There’s a major design flaw in the thing…it’s supposed to be “lintless” but of course nothing involving textiles ever is. The lint collects in unreachable places and prevents the condenser from functioning. No chance of clearing it unless the back of the dryer is removed. And, being Miele, it needs someone who knows what they’re doing.

My only recommendation…DO NOT BUY.

How on earth someone who was unable to read a contour map could become a Captain in the Army is a mystery.

Answer in three letters: GPS.

I doubt that many of the junior officers today would have a clue about reading a contour map, or finding their location by taking a resection using a prismatic compass and protractor.

I suspect that the ability to use a GPS was part of a claim for an increase in skills pay grades (but the DFRT would not have been told that map reading and use of compass and protractor are harder).

I hope that the naval types can still use a sextant. Probably, because running onto the rocks is usually far more immediately dangerous than being lost in the bush.

I agree to a point.
She (I think it’s a she) needs a whack, albeit not a career ending sanction.
As I said earlier, when you are given a verbal direction like that, there are two defensive tactics you can deploy:-
1. “Yeah, no worries. Once you send me an email with those instructions, I’ll get right on to it.”
2. Simply draft your own email (with “receipt” and “read” confirmations), “confirming our discussions earlier today where you instructed me to yada, yada”.
Of course, if you have firm knowledge that you are being asked to do something illegal, the “Get f-cked” response is also available to you.
Guess what?
You will not get fired.
Sadly, I don’t think she was completely innocent.
I strongly suspect that she jumped at the chance to get on “Team Shane” and relished the opportunity to drop into Friday drinks conversation with her pals that she’s “been busy on the Lehrmann case”.

Shane Drumgold’s time as DPP is surely at an end
chris merritt chris merritt

6:02PM August 3, 2023

Shane Drumgold is without a doubt the biggest loser in Walter Sofronoff’s report on what went wrong during the Brittany Higgins rape trial. But he might not be alone.

The next biggest loser might turn out to be the ACT government – which was already on notice that the contents of this report would determine whether it would be hit with a damages bill worth millions of dollars.

That warning was issued last week by Bruce Lehrmann, the man who had been prosecuted in the now abandoned rape trial.

Lehrmann, who has denied any wrongdoing, said he would sue if Sofronoff found that Drumgold acted with malice or breached his duties either as ACT Director of Public Prosecutions or as an officer of the court.

Those conditions seem to based on the exceptions to the statutory immunity from liability that is granted to the DPP under section 33A of the Director of Public Prosecutions Act.

This provision means that if the DPP acted in good faith, he would be immune from liability for acts done or omitted in the performance of his duty.

Based on what has been reported in this newspaper by Janet Albrechtsen and Stephen Rice, there does not appear to be a finding of malice in Sofranoff’s report.

So did Drumgold breach his duties as DPP and an officer of the court?

The Australian’s report says Sofronoff found that Drumgold engaged in serious malpractice and grossly unethical conduct, had failed to disclose information to Lehrmann’s lawyers that might have helped his defence, had preyed on a junior lawyer’s inexperience and had betrayed that junior lawyer’s trust.

Because the Sofronoff report has not been officially released by the ACT government, there are limits on what can be said about the consequences of its findings without running into the law of defamation.

But what can be said is that the ACT government needs to abandon its original strategy of keeping this report secret until the end of the month while it considered whether to redact any passages that had legal implications.

That would have placed Lehrmann at a disadvantage. His litigation threat would have been placed on hold while the government would have been free to prepare a response at its leisure.

There was also a risk, implicit in the government’s explanation, that the suppression of key parts of the report might have continued beyond this month.

ABC journalist wrote ‘sloppy’ report on Heston Russell, court hears
By ellie dudley
Legal Affairs Correspondent
@EllieDudley_
5:58PM August 3, 2023

A senior ABC journalist has rejected a suggestion his reporting was “sloppy” and he “cobbled together” a denial for an article that falsely suggested former commando Heston Russell was involved in the unjust killing of an Afghan prisoner.

The Federal Court on Thursday witnessed a fiery exchange between Josh Robertson and Mr Russell’s barrister, Sue Chrysanthou SC, who suggested the ABC Investigations reporter failed to conduct due diligence when seeking a response him.

Mr Russell is suing the ABC, Robertson and fellow journalist Mark Willacy over two articles that, he says, through the use of links and his photograph implied he was complicit in the execution of a prisoner captured during a joint drug enforcement operation between Australia and the US.
Read Next

Ms Chrysanthou accused Robertson of failing to seek out a proper denial from Mr Russell when writing an article in November 2021, which the court heard was a follow-up to an earlier story penned by Willacy in October 2020.

Robertson’s story evolved from a denial of a Freedom of Information application to Defence, which said there was an active investigation into the conduct of Mr Russell’s November platoon in Afghanistan in mid-2012.

When Robertson called Mr Russell prior to publication of his article, the latter said he was willing to conduct a “live, unedited” interview, as well as answer basic questions about the alleged investigation. At this time, Mr Russell had already spoken to other media outlets denying the allegations detailed in Willacy’s original article.

The court heard Robertson instead “cobbled together” a denial from Mr Russell rather than asking him directly in the call.

“(Mr Russell’s) complaint is you are sloppy, Mr Robertson,” Ms Chrysanthou said.

“His complaint is you got it wrong. His complaint is you didn’t bother to ask him and instead in a very underhanded, sneaky way, tried to cobble together a denial. Instead of just asking him when you rang him on the phone. Do you understand some of the lists of his complaints now?”

Robertson responded: “I understood the list of his complaints previously, Ms Chrysanthou, and I don’t agree with them.”

Ms Chrysanthou continued. “His complaint is that you have together with Mr Willacy and Ms (Jo) Puccini (head of ABC Investigations) and the ABC concocted a story that is not news, that is not in the public interest to defame him and his position.”

Robertson responded: “I think it’s a very self-serving interpretation and wrong.”

Robertson was listed as the sole author of the November 2021 article, despite Willacy having received the FOI response and drafted the first version of the copy.

Dover told us the problem, yesterday I think.
The blog is hosted on a shared server which is a lot cheaper than a dedicated one.

What they do to get your business, is that give your site priority for a while and as new customers join they do the same to them and you drop down the list.

Shared servers work fine as long as they have the resources, but it costs money and if customers balk at the cost then it doesn’t happen.

Many of us offered $$ help, but so far Dover said nothing.

Harsh words but that junior lawyer should have known better, that junior lawyer would 100% known that what he/she was being instructed to do by Dumgold was wrong. I’m sorry but if this was in NSW, that “junior lawyer” would almost certainly be facing censure and likely lose his/her legal licence for a period of time. I know of two such cases here in NSW where young lawyers lost their licence, one for a period of two years.

Hope Downs trial: Family emails reveal John Rinehart’s ‘happily ever after’ wish

Tim Clarke
The West Australian
Thu, 3 August 2023 5:08PM

More private emails sent within the House of Hancock have been revealed in court — with the son of Gina Rinehart at one point wishing the clan could “live happily ever after”.

The trial pitting two of Australia’s richest people — Mrs Rinehart and billionaire mining heiress Angela Bennett — has continued this week, with the vast resources and royalties buried within the Hope Downs iron ore project at stake.

Mrs Bennett’s Wright Prospecting company is claiming they are owed royalties from Hope Downs because of an agreement struck between company founder Peter Wright and mining pioneer Lang Hancock.

But also laying claim are Mrs Rinehart’s children — John and Bianca — and another company, DFD Rhodes.

Lawyers for the latter have spent the week opening their case which asserts that they are entitled to 1.25 per cent of the royalties from Hope Downs, which would add up to hundreds of millions of dollars.

And during those openings, they have opened the previously private inboxes of Mrs Rinehart and her children, exposing the sometimes bitter family infighting.

On Thursday, more letters and emails, sent between 2005 and 2007 to and from Mrs Rinehart and her children, were read out.

In one, John claims that his allegations against his mother are “simple”.

In fact, they are said to involve the complex movement of shares and assets between various companies and trusts by Mrs Rinehart — which are said to have deprived her children of a significant slice of the Hancock fortune.

In another correspondence read to the court — following Mrs Rinehart’s bitter court battle with her late father’s third wife Rose Porteous — John claimed some of the credit.

“I hope you will remember the effort I put in also, especially in turning the tide and the media, against the Porteous camp.”

By 2004, Mr Hancock had emailed his three sisters advising them he was working on the legal case to have their mother removed as trustee and reclaim the “assets my grandfather (Lang Hancock) wanted to leave his grandchildren”.

He later told his youngest sister Ginia Rinehart, who was a teenager at the time, that their mother had “stolen 33 per cent of the family company from us children”.

“She has breached her fiduciary duties to the detriment of the beneficiaries and enriched herself.

“Further she has removed tenements, including Hope Downs, from companies the children control.”

And in 2005 Mr Hancock threatened to go to Mrs Bennett — one of his pioneer grandfather’s former business partner Peter Wright’s children — to help with his litigation funding.

But in late 2006 — during an apparent outbreak of peace between mother and son — he writes to her proposing a way forward between them, which would include him doing some training and taking a salary.

“Everyone then lives happily ever after and I work hard helping to drive the company to reach its goals,” lawyer Simon Taylor recited.

That entente cordiale did not last, with the children having spent the last ten years battling their mother over what they claim is fraud.

And DFD Rhodes concluded their opening remarks by saying the slew of emails showed that for years John and Bianca were happy with the proposed joint Hope Downs venture between Hancock and Rio Tinto.

Emails revealed earlier in the week show John was keen not to hamper the proposed joint venture.

“‘I’ve taken steps to ensure the Rio deal is not jeopardised, I’ve consented to the Supreme Court proceedings being held in secret in Canberra to ensure there is no publicity that might jeopardise the banks or Rio in their dealings with Hope Downs’,” he wrote.

That email eventually found its way to his mother via his sister Bianca.

“I’ll have to wait for idiot John to reply to her before I can see if she sent anything else, I’ll keep checking,” she added.

Now Bianca and John are co-claimants — asserting they should be given some ownership of Hope Downs.

Barristers for Hancock Prospecting will next week make their opening remarks, laying out their case against all the claims made — by Wright, DFD Rhodes, and the children.

The trial is scheduled to run until November this year.

Some sanction is necessary, that’s for sure.
But it depends on a few factors:-
1. Did she know that the senior colleague had already knocked Dumgold back?
2. Did she know the AFP hadn’t exercised privilege over the document?
3. Did Dumgold convince her that the AFP had exercised privilege? (Yes, she should have checked)
4. How junior was she exactly? (Yes, qualified, but I can imagine a first year grad being convinced that corners are cut in the real world).
5. Did she do it out of a desire to be on board the Britnah train?
None of that excuses it, but might be mitigating factors.

Actually one of your lies does need a reply.
Do you have an emergency box at home? One with a flashlight? Some candles? perhaps a spare battery or two?
Perhaps some medication? A box of antibiotics you didn’t need to take?
You know, stuff you just might need in an emergency?
People are encouraged to do so in Queensland because of adverse weather.
I have an arrangement with three of my neighbours where I can supply enough electricity through extension cords to keep them in power enough for lights and fridges. They also keep a fair bit of diesel so that we can keep going for a month.
All pulling together so that if – God forbid – shit does happen, we can be in a position to help out instead of sitting on our fat arses waiting for everyone else to come to our aid.
So which are you? The asset to your community or a bludger?
I can pretty well guess.
…and as for the iodine idiocy you vent over, I had delivered today 600ml of Lugols Iodine Solution, which will sit in a cupboard until it expires in 2030 or thereabouts.
If it’s needed, I’ll hand it over to the hospital for community use. Why?
Because our pharmacies don’t stock it, nor do our hospitals. Do you think the government is able to organise iodine for the young adults and kids to get to outlying towns if needed?
I’ve been involved in enough Civil Emergency and disaster planning to know the government would be incapable of getting out disaster relief in an adequate time frame, and it only cost me $155 for the 600 ml which is enough to treat a lot of children and adults.
So what are you doing to help out? Apart from trying to book a flight to NZ to run away from your collective responsibilities?
No, your type always go for the “I’m all right Jack plan.”

The ACT government is under pressure to conduct an inquiry into previous criminal cases prosecuted by Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold, following damning findings by the Sofronoff Inquiry that he knowingly lied to the Supreme Court and engaged in serious malpractice and grossly unethical conduct.

Several senior barristers and retired judges said it was incumbent upon the government to scrutinise Mr Drumgold’s past prosecutions in light of the findings by inquiry chair Walter Sofronoff KC that the DPP had lost objectivity during the prosecution of Bruce Lehrmann for the alleged rape of Brittany Higgins and “did not act with fairness and detachment as was required by his role”.

Former NSW Supreme Court judge Anthony Whealy KC said a review of past cases involving Mr Drumgold was necessary and that the case was a stark reminder that prosecutors had to be balanced and impartial.
Read Next

“They have to uphold the standards of prosecutorial action on the one hand, and not discard them to get a win at all costs, which is what’s gone wrong here,” Mr Whealy said.

Mr Sofronoff’s findings were revealed by The Australian on Wednesday night but the ACT government has refused to release the 600-page report, which it was handed on Monday, until early next week.

The government had earlier said it would not release the report until the end of August but backflipped on Thursday following publication of the findings in The Australian.

Shane Kelliher knows first-hand the confusion caused by Western Australia’s new cultural heritage laws and says there must be a “better way forward” to preserve Indigenous sites.

Mr Kelliher, 58, has received preliminary written advice organised through his legal firm saying that, under the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act, which took effect on July 1, he could be forced to pay between $30,000 and $100,000 for a cultural heritage assessment.

He told The Australian he wanted to extract high-quality building sand from his 85ha property in North Dandalup about an hour south of Perth. But this plan was thrown into doubt when the site was found to be close to possible historic camping areas for Indigenous Australians.

While he supported protecting Aboriginal cultural heritage, Mr Kelliher argued that “it should not be at the cost of the individual landowner”.

“If it incurs cost to the individual landowner, then they should be compensated,” he said. “I’ve got a significant connection to the land myself. It’s been in the family for three generations.”

Federal Nationals leader David Littleproud told The Australian most people already respected cultural heritage sites, but warned the WA laws could backfire and “see that respect taken away”.

“Most of the instigators of the last American insurrection are now in gaol on long bids. Jack Smith is just tying up a few loose ends.

I doubt there will be a sequel.”

Dickless talking out of his arse as usual. The insurrection began in 2016 and was complete in 2020.

No worries Bobby.
I’ll look it up myself.
Wouldn’t dream of enticing you to fall foul of the law.
If there’s one thing us radical truthers and preppers revolutionaries will not stand for it’s breaking the law.

Mem, I did hear about your illness and extraordinary medical procedure and I hope you are still doing well, recovering well. I’ll take this quiet time chance to send you best wishes. Take it easy, there is no rush about convalescence. Let others help you now.

Your fortitude in the face of something we’d all dread is admirable. Drop in when you can and let us know how things are with you as you recover.

Not a good idea to get too smart:
“Special counsel Jack Smith’s team made a startling admission in its case against former President Donald Trump, acknowledging in a new court filing that it failed to turn over all evidence to Mr. Trump’s legal team as required by law and falsely claimed that it had.”
“Mr. Smith’s team said in a July 31 court filing (pdf) in its classified documents case against the former president that it had incorrectly claimed during a July 18 court hearing that it had provided all Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage to Mr. Trump’s defense attorneys, as required by law.”

I remember somewhere along Tassie’s long wild west coast being taken to old aboriginal shell middens that were crumbling open to the skies and winds and being told that along the whole of the north-west coast any beach was one big midden.

Keeping them all would be like insisting on sticking to old Anglo-Saxon field boundaries for the sake of heritage. Sometimes it happens, but you can’t and shouldn’t count on it. Peoples move, places change and that’s just the way of things.
Aborigines should live in the modern world and get used to it. The ridiculous claims the current Vic ‘Treaty’ is giving some unknown Land Council over the area of ten local Councils in Victoria is complete lunacy, especially as it involves control of water resources. It will be this on steroids with the Voice, and no hope of rescinding legislation with a change of government either, which at least can be done re a legally constestable State treaty..

Middens = Rubbish Tips.

The difference being tips now have machinery with wheels. Bulldozers, compactors etc.

Aborigines never came to grips with the wheel. Or how to boil water. Noble culture but.

The fat fascist fool still thinks that an event substantially less violent than an average BLM or Ante-fa afternoon stroll through town was an “insurrection”. The only unarmed “insurrection” in world history still gives him wet dreams.

To say nothing of the multiple undercover FBI and other agents provacateurs.

Contemporaneous diary notes :- if he really was a deep state plant all along (he acted against Trump with covid, got Flynn sacked, others? ) how do we know what he wrote is what actually happened? Or was what he wrote – slanted against Trump?

“Nip down the shop and get a tin of stripped paint.”

I have a friend who used to run a car spares shop, and got one of these.
He told the guy to wait.
Then took the lid off a tin of untinted white paint and allowed a skin to form.
Then carefully put tint in stripes over the top and told the guy to be very careful when taking it back – keep it upright, don’t shake it etc.
He reckons the phone call from the individual responsible for the request was worth the effort. 🙂

Barcelona

We have discovered the hard way – don’t allow yourself to be given E500 notes in Australia. Even trying to pay a legitimate large bill at an institution where your passport is inspected as part of the check-in process – such as one of our hotels – will not accept them. So we were told to go to a bank; did so; no good – you must go to the Bank of Spain. Once there, sorry, you need to make an appointment, and there are none left today. Somewhere out there the counterfeiters’ E500’s must be VERY good quality. Postscript: money changed, luckily we had the kosher stuff.

Been slightly disappointed with Barcelona – not as beautiful as the other cities we have visited. Also, the first time in Spain we have encountered clouds and dare I say it, humidity! It even rained a bit yesterday. Not as hot, low 30’s.

Barcelona is Gaudi overload – a Spanish architect and designer known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. IMO it is a whimsical almost fairytale style. We visited the grand Sagrada Familia (church) which is symbolic of the lifetime of Christ. The intricate outside stonework shows various concepts, such as saints, virtues and sins, ably explained to Mrs TE by Top Ender who recalled his many years of Catholic education. Also saw Casa Batlow, a house that Gaudi re-designed on one of the city’s main streets. That was enough.

We met up with our friends from Australia and ventured out to dinner at The Four Gats (The Four Cats), a restaurant which was frequented by Picasso and other artists and writers. It has a bohemian Parisian style. Lovely food and great catch-up. We all board our Med cruise today.

Randoms:

• There are Aldi’s throughout Spain – their security guards impressed me – stab vest, handcuffs, truncheon etc. Saw one search a bloke leaving and removing two bottles of bourbon – one from front of shorts and one from the back! Then let him go.

• Included a photo of street cleaning as well. Two women in wet weather gear and hose spraying. Followed by small vehicle with scrubbers.

• Did a history “free tour by foot” – which featured the Spanish Civil war and damage to buildings and Catalonia’s fight for independence (hence three flags on their buildings)

• Alcohol is often approximately 1/3rd of the price in Australia everywhere in Spain!
