Coming on the back of Sicktorias (and others) uniformed thugs firing gas/baton rounds at protesters, king hitting people all over Oz for non compliance and assorted thuggery forgive me if I dont hold them in high regard or trust their ability to respond appropriately to crowds.

Police forces in Australia need to be disarmed and lose their “ninja turtle” gear.
I think youd find proactive policing and conflict resolution coming back into vogue pretty quick.

Duncanm, this is from the ABC, so grain of salt…

Photos and videos shared by protesters show the devices atop a police vehicle and in front of Parliament House. A spokesman for ACT Policing confirmed to Fact Check via email that LRADs were deployed during the protests. (my bold)

Now, in the loose, imprecise language of modern journalism, “deployed” might mean “sitting there looking decorative”. For us old fashioned types, it means “used”.

If it’s the second, “used” how exactly? As a PA? For some nice soothing elevator music? Or maybe, just maybe, for the purpose they were designed and why the police forces throughout the country bought them.

I don’t know. Protesters who became unwell think otherwise.

Creating the flag was divisive. Referring to themselves as First Nations is pathetically inaccurate and polemical. To get a “voice” try and say something sensible and get elected to an existing parliament, not some special pleading creche.

Protesters who became unwell think otherwise.

As we saw with the Victorian protests, when plod has received a bunch of new toys they have a propensity to want to try them out. It’s human nature. Especially if told they are “non-lethal” so that there’s no personal legal downside to using them. Very like the Milgram Experiment.

Speaking of class, there’s a new series out called ”The Gilded Age” from the creator of Downton Abbey.

Early days but doesn’t seem too bad; I can see Jane Austen influences.

The English were the worst when it came to sharing the wealth. Look at those houses with 80 bedrooms while the average peasant would be lucky to get a third of their born children to adulthood. Those houses make the average tech billionaire’s tacky shack look like nothing.

They have done a fantastic con job in comvincing gullible people like Gab that they were kind, but slightly flawed, aristocrats. The dying babies, the lack of clean water – nup, let’s fantasise.

I’ve said it before and will say it again – the NHS and appurtenances were a reaction to that.

The great crime writer Gladys Mitchell refers to how maybe a third of children born to English agricultural workers would live to adulthood. This was in the 1930s.

Those who fall for Fellowes’ airbrushed and romanticised version of history are hardly in a position to credibly critique anything today.

This is the latest from Brownstone Institute – read it & weep for the West.
(Sorry it is a block quote, as for some reason it was not possible to click on Share)

With the world reopening, and even US blue states and cities repealing mandates, how optimistic should we be? A little bit is warranted but not that much. What we are seeing right now in Ottawa reveals the hegemonic depth of the system that gave us lockdowns, then mandates: it is now capable of freezing your accounts and essentially starving you and your family.

It’s economic warfare.

This was a wild conspiracy theory last year. Now it is very obvious that this is where many governments want to go. We’ve seen examples just in the past week.

The truckers in Canada deployed the crowd-funding platform GoFundMe and raised $9M, until suddenly the platform said that they would not distribute the money yet, pending the release of a clear plan on what the truckers were going to do with it.

Many of us immediately smelled a rat. Sure enough, a few days later, GoFundMe announced that it would not give the money to the truckers but rather to other charities of its choosing. In other words, it would steal the money. That outraged many people, among them Elon Musk, and the Internet blew up in fury. At that point, GoFundMe returned all the money back to the donors.

In the next act of this drama, the truckers went to GiveSendGo, a platform that seems more independent and that pledged to give the money to the truckers. With no promotion or even a clear link on Google on where to send money, the new method raised even more money. This was entirely thanks to uncensored networks where people were sharing information.

But the story was far from over. The platform was hit with denial-of-service attacks from malicious actors and then hacked. The thing went down hard and had to be rebuilt. The data on donors was leaked to the government and then to the Canadian Broadcast Company who contacted donors under the guise of “doing a story” on the funding. It was a clear attempt at intimidation.

The Minister of Finance got into the act and essentially declared that anyone using these to provide funding to the truckers were engaging in illicit activity — essentially terrorists. Without missing a beat, the Minister of Justice for Trudeau went further to declare that anyone who has given large figures through these platforms “should be worried” about having their bank accounts frozen.

So there we have it on record: the Canadian government has declared that it can freeze anyone’s bank account and seize the contents based on their political views or charitable actions. In the midst of all of this, Trudeau declared emergency powers that allow the government to do this to all for non-compliers, and do so without any court order.

The next step in this astonishing drama: crypto. The platform TallyCoin somehow and almost miraculously navigated all the compliance regulations and became a viable way to use crypto to crowd fund, thus bypassing banks (so long as you don’t convert your crypto to dollars).

Very quickly, the platform raised $1M for the truckers. This was all put together by a group of truckers calling itself HonkHonkHodl. That means, of course, hold crypto don’t sell.

Almost immediately, the ??Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Canada’s FBI) sent letters to many crypto exchanges demanding that any assets flowing through their systems that are known to be intended as donations to the truckers must be reported immediately. At the same time, the truckers are being told to leave. Two leaders of the convoy have been arrested.

Yes, all these actions are clearly political, totalitarian, and relying fundamentally on the control of money and finance to shore up regime power and crush political opposition.

For weeks now, I’ve worried that Trudeau would pursue a Tiananmen Square solution. This was the strategy deployed in China in 1989 to forestall the type of regime meltdown that had characterized events in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet empire. For a while, it appeared that regimes could be toppled if enough people gathered in the streets. China showed otherwise: bullets, tanks, and arrests of key leaders are often enough to shore up control.

These days, a Tiananmen-style solution takes a different form. With financial intermediaries forced to do the state’s bidding, rebellions can be put down with texts, emails, and a few clicks on an interface. Your assets are frozen, then stolen, and you are left without a job or any financial means at all. Jails aren’t even necessary.

Yes, crypto can help bypass the system, but it still must deal with three huge barriers: 1) the exchanges and platforms deal with enormous burdens in regulatory compliance, 2) the onramps to obtaining crypto are ever more intrusive, 3) the offramps to moving crypto out of digits and into cash are highly regulated. None of this is the fault of crypto. It is a failure of the transition.

As an aside, the one word hardly spoken during this incredible drama is Covid. It was never really about a virus. The world is moving past the virus, and left only with the massive and terrifying state machinery that emerged under the guise of public health, a principle which has oddly mutated into another priority: political health.

Since 2013, I’ve written about the possibility of a privatized monetary system. It seemed like a wonderful ideal. Someday, we will get there, surely, in one form or another. But the transition has become extremely complicated, as government authorities attempt to use their existing regulatory hold on conventional money and regulated exchanges to institute a China-style social credit system.

Even now, I cannot believe that I just typed those sentences, which I used to hear only from very fringy commentators. Now the fringe is the fabric. Anyone who has not paid attention to the conspiracy theories of the last year has failed to anticipate most of the news.

Many of the world’s wisest minds have observed that the main means by which powerful states seize and retain control is through the realm of money. Guns help. Prestige helps. But in the end, it’s the control of money that keeps the people in servitude.

Crypto was once for geeks only. Now it has become a tool for saving the working class from obliteration by hegemonic forces within the ruling-class financial structure. The workers’ revolution is taking a different path from what anyone in the 19th century could have ever imagined: from diesel to crypto to freedom.

Or so we can hope.

There’s now no doubt the LRAD’s were there. There’s a lot of official prevaricating about why, and what was actually done with them. A number of protesters said they were made unwell by them. Even the taxpayer-funded lies machine the ABC could only say that that was “unlikely”.
If you’ve got any evidence from 12,000 miles away to back up the ABC’s “unlikely” feel free to provide it.

Johanna above reworking her bile from the early days here.
Plus ca change. When she thought I was a younger woman she fell over herself to say my husband would leave me the minutes my tits and bum fell. We just couldn’t be allowed to be deeply in love with two beautiful children together. Lol, we are still in love, never to part, and it must be galling for her to know now that he is ten years younger than me. She was insanely jealous, totally condescending and cruel to this ‘younger’ woman in every possible way and desperate to doxx both of my husbands in her researching panics. She did doxx my current husband. I have the screenshot to prove it. Now she’s just insanely bitter, still going on about her version of our marriage and my ruse using age-slippage to ensure privacy. Sorry you’re a lonely old hag, Johanna, but why take it out on me? You’ve made your own bed. Get your hair done and cheer up. It’s never too late to look better.

Re Angela’s Ashes, the other morning I woke early alone in my isolation room at home, pre positive PCR but very sick indeed. I was in floods of unstoppable tears, crying for memories of my mother. I couldn’t understand it. Then Health’s symptom list came through with the positive PCR text and said uncontrolled crying is a serious symptom, as is dizziness. All I’ve got now is I am sweating like crazy, lying in bed with Attapuss in the aircon coughing a bit and bored enough to be reading the Cat and answering back when I shouldn’t be engaging here at all, for it is very bad for me as everyone knows. This place is toxic for me. On the mend now I suspect. An interesting experience.

Those who fall for Fellowes’ airbrushed and romanticised version of history are hardly in a position to credibly critique anything today.

Some of the amusing aspects of Downton Abbey and its fellow depictions are that most people seem to have a vicarious experience with them.

So Downtown Deirdre and her mates imagine themselves as the ones on the screen with the maid, money, men of much money and good looks chasing them, and so on – not the scullery maid downstairs working in the kitchens cutting up chickens and washing pans for 12 hours a day.

We have both been sick, he more with general prostration and severe nasal streaming, being driven mad by that, all head cold stuff but extreme. Mild sneezing with a developing dry cough, dizziness and the strange dreamlike teary stuff.

Local RFS brigade has just notified our district that, because of the Head Office RFS requirement for vaccination status to be declared (& unvaccinated to be only allowed to participate in “emergencies”), there have been a significant number of resignations – some of members who have had decades of experience and dangerous service – particularly in the last serious fire season.

It is beyond belief that the paid bureaucrats in control of the RFS could decimate the volunteer brigades through such massive stupidity. The anger around here is white hot.

It says everything about the deterioration of this country under the burden of the intellectually challenged bureaucracy.

Incidentally, during the last horrific fires the RFS bureaucracy would not allow the local brigade to back burn. It cause tremendous angst among the volunteers who understood the direction the fires would take – from local experience. It was also a matter of fury that the paid RFS would disappear at the end of “working hours”, while the volunteers would labour on through the night at considerable risk to themselves. Their efforts saved property.

Julian Fellowes is a very good writer, I loved Gosford Park. However with Downton Abbey I watched one season of it and grew bored towards the end.

You wax lyrical about Agatha Christie…the “Divine Agatha” and rightly so, she was a superb writer. But most of her fiction also airbrushed and romanticised a lot of life in pre-war and post-war England. Her fiction doesn’t contain plots set in the East End of London or the slums of Manchester and Liverpool. Christie’s characters by and large come from the upper middle class and aristocracy.

Hairy thinks I’m stubborn too. You didn’t saying anything about Business Class did you? he enquires anxiously as he peers around the door disapprovingly at me blogging. You know that will just bring them all down on your head again. If you do, then leave me out of it.

And when people respond we get the confected melodrama. CS Lewis had that behaviour pegged in The Screwtape Letters:
“…saying things with the express purpose of offending and yet having a grievance when offence is taken”.

Any updates on the injuries sustained by the three million protestors left writhing in agony on the parliamentary lawns after Scott’s Stormtroopers unleashed the sonic weapons?

I’ll be charitable and assume its real and not merely Leigh Lowe’s alter ego, openly mocks what is happening today, that yesterday she mocked as a dumb conspiracy theory.

It’s funny but people give Lizzie shit about gilding the lilly and running an alter ego and telling tales, but she’s just having a bit of fun, there’s no malevolence really.

This one though, this one is genuinely malevolent, from day zero. The MO is well established by now.

And lets never forget, lets always remember, rosie/notafan then, argued unapologetically, not only for the ‘right’, but ‘justice’ & ‘wisdom’ of the NHS & EU DEATH PANELS to sentence children to death despite the parents having the will & means to seek treatment from other doctors & hospitals.

This is fully in line with rosie/notafan ‘educating’ the world in accepting the ‘justice’ of all the deadly ‘Covid’ Mandates, oh, and hr being proudly, personally invested in the Big Pharma Companies making their (& her), killing having the Govts of The Globe force their vile, killer products on the world.

Christie’s characters by and large come from the upper middle class and aristocracy.

The Country House set – Gosford Park was a fine satire on that particular genre of Murder Most Horrid. I loved it too.

When Christie strayed into the world of gangsters and Soho speakeasies she was on less solid ground. She was far more at home in the salons of the Big House and villages of country England. Her forays into the world of archaeology were good – here she had first hand knowledge courtesy of her second husband, Max Mallowan.

Her short stories are hit and miss – I enjoy the harlequin series.

Really? I think there may be a number of us who may beg to differ.

She was definitely malevolent towards me and that arose from comments years ago that everyone else would have let go after a day or two. She bears grudges and that is one reason why so many people are angry with her. What I don’t understand is there appears to be a distinct lack of self-awareness because when so many people are attacking the attacked person needs to reflect on the possibility that perhaps the problem lies with them. I’ve never read her doing that.

Roberts-Smith’s lawyer suggests alleged threat to shoot soldier was warning about Taliban
Michaela Whitbourn
By Michaela Whitbourn
February 18, 2022 — 12.23pm

A barrister acting for war veteran Ben Roberts-Smith has suggested the decorated former soldier did not threaten to shoot a comrade, as has been alleged in the Federal Court, but warned the soldier he was at risk of being “shot by the enemy” if his performance did not improve.

Person 1, an SAS soldier whose identity cannot be revealed for national security reasons, has given evidence in Mr Roberts-Smith’s defamation case that the former soldier told him in 2006 that “if your performance doesn’t improve on our next patrol you’re going to get a bullet in the back of the head”.

He told the court he interpreted the comment as a death threat and “it made me fearful for my own personal safety”.

Person 1 alleged Mr Roberts-Smith bullied and undermined him for years, including pushing him in the chest during a later incident in 2010 and telling him to “get out of my way, c–t, or I’ll kill you”.

The serving soldier is one of a number of current and former SAS officers giving evidence in the Federal Court for The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times in the defamation suit filed against the mastheads by Mr Roberts-Smith.

Mr Roberts-Smith alleges a series of articles published in 2018 portray him as a war criminal and a bully. He denies all wrongdoing and has said he had raised legitimate concerns about Person 1’s performance as a soldier. The media outlets are seeking to rely on a defence of truth.

During cross-examination on Friday, one of the barristers acting for Mr Roberts-Smith, Bruce McClintock, SC, showed Person 1 a written statement from 2013 in which he set out a bullying complaint about the decorated soldier.

“There’s nothing in this statement from 2013 that indicates that he used the words bullet in your head … that’s correct, isn’t it?” Mr McClintock said.

“The encounter is listed, but the words specifically used weren’t,” Person 1 replied. He denied that he had fabricated the encounter he described in his evidence in the Federal Court.

Mr McClintock said Person 1’s written complaint recorded that Mr Roberts-Smith “burst into the team room one day while I was watching a movie and accused me of still not being up to his standard for an SAS operator”.

“He then informed me on the next job I may get shot if my performance does not improve,” Mr McClintock said the complaint recorded.

Person 1 agreed that he had “performance issues at that time” but said Mr Roberts-Smith was a “fellow trooper, it’s not really his position” to critique his performance.

He has previously agreed that he made a mistake during a mission in Afghanistan in June 2006, during which he failed to bring oil for his machine gun and the weapon stopped a number of times while he was firing it. He has also agreed that this put the lives of his fellow soldiers at risk.

“What you recorded is consistent with my client saying to you that ‘if you don’t improve your performance you’re going to get shot by the enemy’,” Mr McClintock said.

“No,” Person 1 replied.

“I suggest to you that that’s what it does mean?” Mr McClintock pressed. “That’s incorrect,” Person 1 replied.

“My client never said anything to you beyond ‘if you don’t improve you’re going to be in trouble out there and you’ll be in danger’? That’s what he said, isn’t it?” Mr McClintock said.

“No,” Person 1 replied.

Person 1 said that any soldier could have been shot by the enemy. The court has previously heard that Person 1’s performance reviews improved when he was moved out of Mr Roberts-Smith’s team in July 2006.

He rejected Mr McClintock’s suggestion that he made up bullying allegations as a way of dealing with Mr Roberts-Smith saying he was “no good”, and denied that he tried to blame others.

“I think it outlines in my [performance] reports that I take responsibility for my actions and seek improvement,” Person 1 said.

The trial continues.

Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas blitzes US rivals at college championships

By Tom Crystal
5 minutes ago February 18, 2022
343 Comments

Transgender athlete Lia Thomas has blitzed her rivals on the way to victory in the 500-yard (457m) freestyle event at the Ivy League Championships, at Harvard University on Thursday.

The University of Pennsylvania swimmer won her first ever individual title at the college event by more than seven seconds over the second-placed finisher, clocking a time of 4min 37.32sec.

Her time established a new record at the pool, breaking the mark set by 2012 Olympian Kate Ziegler.

ESPN reports that Penn team-mates Catherine Buroker, who finished second, and fourth-placed Anna Kalandadze applauded as the No.1-ranked Thomas received her medal.

The 22-year-old had previously competed for the university as Will Thomas for three years and was ranked No.462 in the NCAA.

Thomas began the transition to a female in 2019 and has undergone two years of hormone replacement as part of the process.

In early December, she recorded the best performances of the year at university level, in the 200-yard (183m) freestyle (1min 41.93sec) and in the 500-yard freestyle (4min 34.06sec).

The impressive feats have stirred controversy about the fairness of her being allowed to compete against biological women in a women’s event.

Some team-mates have spoken out anonymously against her inclusion in the women’s team.

US swimming authorities have instituted a requirement that transgender women must suppress testosterone levels for three years before they are allowed to compete, but college’s governing body the NCAA has so far ruled Thomas will be able to compete at its championships in March.

The Women’s Sports Policy Working Group say the recently instituted rules are insufficient, especially in cases where an athlete has begun her transition after puberty.

Thomas has talked about her transition, saying she is “thrilled to be able to continue to swim. I love to compete … I’m very proud of my times and my ability to keep swimming and keep competing.”
