NSW Covid data from 26th Nov – 22nd Jan 2022.
Chances of dying 60/100,000.

Mate of mine had it three weeks ago.
Carries a bit of a spare tyre and uses a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, so the pipes aren’t 100%.
Breezed through.
Not as bad as a cold.
I know this is antidotal evidence only, but the macro numbers tell the same story.
Oh-micron is a public health nothing burger.

Tick tock, tick tock.

According to assorted press reports, we should see Russia invade Ukraine any time between now and late tonight (our time).

But…

Russia has mocked claims made by Western media outlets that an “invasion” of Ukraine will begin at 3am on February 16, with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying that Ukrainians who believe such things are welcome to stay up.

Over in Kiev, the head of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s own party in the parliament, David Arakhamia, told Ukrainian TV was “99.9% confident that nothing will happen” on February 16.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the joint exercises in Belarus had ended as scheduled, and showed videos of tanks and other equipment traveling back to Russia. Meanwhile in Washington, US President Joe Biden delivered a short address at the White House about Ukraine saying that an invasion was still possible, Biden admitted that some Russian troops have withdrawn from the border.

The political class made something up. The rest of the world was not involved at all. Yet now the political class is hunting down ordinary people for not submitting to their game.

Transgender activists used the frequency of self-harm among transgender minors as a wedge to further their cause. You may have noticed a spate of such reports in the media in the lead up to the eventual shelving of the religious discrimination Bill. In a sinister development, it is now the statistically normal person who is labelled with the pseudo-medical condition ‘transphobia’ while the person who has an actual illness (recognised as such in diagnostic text books up until fairly recently) is deemed to be perfectly normal.

Russia has mocked claims made by Western media outlets that an “invasion” of Ukraine will begin at 3am

Cleverly inserted something which would obviously be true – 3:00 am in Ukraine is 8:00 pm in Washington DC. Even if they woke Biden he would be hopelessly uncomprehending, he would say whatever was needed so he could go back to bed to snuggle into his teddy, while the silhouettes of Mother Goose characters from a musical nightlight marched across the walls and Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star tinkled until it wound down.

And Jill would be in one of her apartments in the WH grimly knocking back one bourbon after another as if she were beating a mule to keep it going, to drive herself to last the days until this whole farce is over and she gets her reward. Joe will be a wreck by then and only his nurses need see him.

Dogs can recognize their owner by voice alone (Phys.org, 15 Feb)

A new study from the researchers of the Department of Ethology at Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Hungary reveals that dogs can recognize their owner by voice alone, and they make use of some of the same voice properties as humans do. The study is published in Animal Cognition.

How can this be. Porsche etc are essential tools for navigating the primative and dangerous streets of Noosa. Why not the bush?

Yep, Scomo MUST know his govt stinks and he is steamrolling to a loss. Career over I’d say.
He isn’t getting near another public company again without an intensive D&A testing regime. I mean, twice a week, minimum.
He is still on the board of Lark, but watch this space. He holds 5% of the shares on issue but that is no guarantee.
And, right or wrong, there will probably now be a bunch of claims lodged against him for “loose unit” behaviour in the office, and they will be not defensible.

Unfortunately for the simpleton, he has handed the Rona Victory Lap to the States, along with as much of the political responsibility as they were willing to take.

Looks like the Palacechook is aiming to get in ahead of him:

Here in Qld there is some government acknowledgement (via CHO) that the mask mandate will be dropped soon. Not that they are doing this to help Morrison – far from it – but the data is very poor to try to maintain these things and more people are becoming restive.

Ottawa will see pushback if tow trucks are forced to clear blockades, towing industry says

Mark Graves, who runs the Provincial Towing Association of Ontario, said his members have been inundated with requests from the city and police to tow protester vehicles – all prior to the Emergencies Act being invoked on Monday – and the response has been a unanimous no.

“It would be business suicide,” he said. “These are the trucking companies that call you for the work when they break down on the side of the road. You think … they’re ever going to call you again? You may as well just write your own ticket to shut your business down.”

Just received in the mailbox the first piece of propaganda ahead of the upcoming state election in South Australia (March 19).

A one-page document primarily about postal voting and early voting with an application for postal voting included.

Then it moves on to a little bit of politicking.

This election is important, and I hope that any disruption due to Covid 19 will be limited. There has certainly been a big impact on our community that we weren’t expecting, since the government opened Borders in December 2021.
Local jobs and businesses are doing it tough. Families have been forced into isolation, and our children are learning from home. Lives have been lost. For those of you impacted in any way – I am sorry.

So this is what labor’s tactics are. Suggest that all the problems we have with Covid are the fault of the Liberal government opening the border.
Labor obviously thinks South Australia should still be locked up, just like Western Australia!

Jobs lost, businesses going under, families isolated, children suffering and people dying – all the fault of the wicked Liberal party.
labor wants us to know that they are sorry for us.

This plays in Liberal held South Australia. How will Albo play it federally?

GiveSendGo is a serious lesson on many levels though.

A week ago people were opining “why doesn’t someone just set up an alternative to gofundme?”. I commented that it’s not that simple setting up a money laundering front – which is what the existing “crowd funding” sites increasingly are, if you don’t want to instantly be de-platformed or declared a terrorist finance organisation.

One.
Week.
Later.

But there is the other aspect of this, about GSG, Gab and some of the other alternative platforms being set up on shoe string budgets that the centre right are starting to flow over to as the screws get turned on them now. IT security is hard. IT security + International $ transactions when you’re officially on the radar of, and in direct opposition to the modern collapsing nation state, is almost impossible.

And as we see. The stakes are quite high for everyone at the moment. Now the Australian state broadcaster wants to “talk” to John Smith Liberal Voter for making a donation to a likely soon to be on the list foreign “cause”. Hello ASIO under the ALP with that handy list. Just commenting on the Internet or donating $25 or turning up at a protest will get you on a list somewhere.

Gina Rinehart fights appeal over $5bn family trust
Cindy Cameronne
Business Writer
34 minutes ago February 16, 2022

Gina Rinehart is fighting a legal challenge by her daughter Bianca who has alleged her mother moved a multi-billion asset out of a $5bn trust for her four children.

The appeal is the latest battle in a long-running legal war between Bianca Rinehart and her mother in which it is alleged Gina Rinehart wrongfully prevented her four children from inheriting rights to own a multibillion-dollar mine in Hope Downs via the family trust.

Bianca Rinehart is appealing a 2020 Supreme Court of NSW decision which refused her bid to force Gina Rinehart to hand over documents concerning the creation of the trust in 1988 which she will use to investigate the alleged misconduct by her mother as former trustee.

Appearing in the case on Wednesday barrister David Thomas SC, for Bianca Rinehart, told the NSW Court of Appeal the documents could prove useful to Bianca Rinehart’s personal case against her mother and Hancock Prospecting in confidential proceedings running in the Federal Court.

The $5bn trust was created in December 1988 by Gina Rinehart’s father, Langley Hancock for his grandchildren. Gina Rinehart became the trustee of the trust after Mr Hancock died in March 1992.

Gina Rinehart’s children, including John Hancock, Ginia Rinehart, Hope Walker and Bianca Rinehart were the beneficiaries of the trust.

John, Bianca, Ginia and Hope started proceedings in the Supreme Court of NSW in September 2011 seeking to remove Gina as trustee of the family trust.

Allegedly facing “very serious” claims by Bianca she breached her duties as trustee, Gina Rinehart resigned from the role and Supreme Court Justice Brereton appointed Bianca to replace her mother in May 2014.

The Hope Downs venture spins off lucrative royalties for Gina Rinehart’s Hancock Prospecting and has helped make her Australia’s second-richest person, worth $36.28bn according to The Australian’s The List.

Elizabeth (Lizzie) Beare, I can no longer resist replying to your repetitive cries of victimhood.
Most of us have been around The Cat for many years and recall how things actually happened. You took a furious dislike to johanna because she challenged many of your posts, particularly those which dealt with your first rate travels, your diamonds, your trophy husband and your munificence towards those less fortunate.
You perceive this as class envy, even suggesting your ‘tall poppy’ status as the reason for her hostility.
It isn’t.

This is the ‘wonderful’ Delta having a go at me and rewriting blog history. I seem to remember too, that when I felt I had to leave here previously, Delta was one of the first to hop in with a view that I had been unpleasant about her leg and therefore I must be good riddance . I cannot recall ever having been so, at a time when many people were making mild jokes, and I certainly would not have intentionally overstepped any boundaries on that. I am not some sort of obsessive deeply-masked ogre, although Bushkid has her views, and is welcome to keep them.

Re Delta’s spray above:

1. I don’t cry victim, but I do ask for fairness
2. I have never taken ‘a furious dislike’ to Johanna. From the very start of the bullying I have asked nothing but that she desist, in as many ways nicely as I have been able to do, but sometimes driven by complete irritation to hit back. Remember – we are talking here of YEARS of abusive attacks from a clearly fixated and obsessive woman whom Sinc had to put into moderation because of her threats to another here, not me. Johanna could not just let me be, no matter how often I asked. And the ususal suspect stood by and enjoyed it.
3. Some people here see this as a Johanna-Lizzie funfilled issue. It is not. I have never had any interest in engaging with Johanna.
3. Johanna has chased me viciously on the Cat for many years, lies about me constantly, has tried to doxx me and my husband, and puts up the ‘munificence’ meme which is one pushed by the Mrs. Bucket school of so-called satire, which bears no relationship to me and my life. Delta, I am far, far more than a few light-hearted comments about diamonds and my reciprocated love for my husband. You may chose to believe my commenting relies on such things, but the truth is that it never did and doesn’t now.
4. Class envy is alive and well on this blog. I have been the very inappropriate target for it.
5. No-one here is ‘wonderful’. We are all known only partially. And I won’t trouble you anymore.

d) mistakes and crossing things out is probably a good idea too, if the ink bleeds and makes a mess then that would be a shame, optical character scanners again

Goanna, I hope they do well, I hope the LDP and PHON do well, I want any true conservative candidate to do well. Around here however we seem to have a lot of CDS, the UAP is the only minor party running candidates in every upper and lower house seat, it’s difficult to beat the Uniparty in the lower house and good luck to those who try. If they wish to vote for a minor and the LDP or PHON or anyone else than the Greens is running, good luck to them. The ones I don’t understand are those who would rather vote informal or not vote at all, rather than vote for a UAP candidate, they are just helping the Uniparty.

George Orwell castigated those who in WW2 took a neutral stand and wouldn’t take sides in the conflict, he could see that in doing so they were helping the Axis. Unfortunately too many here are taking a similar stand. I don’t get it but I suppose that Clive has the same sort of effect on them as Trump has on Leftists.

There is lots of differing data but it appears that north of 5 billion masks are produced globally every month. Of those, about 4% (200,000,000) are expected to end up in the ocean each month.

Given this mask nonsense has been going on for about 2 years, that’s about 120 billion masks produced and around 4.8 billion masks in the ocean.

Many of these things have been used by the medical profession for years but tens/hundreds of billions of the items have been used by the general public who may have a lower threshold for proper disposal.

Maybe we will soon see requests by the environmental groups for money to clean up some beaches/reef etc of medical waste. I can imagine the NGOs are preparing the research briefs as we speak.

Last Tuesday, Senator Malcolm Roberts (PHON QLD) and Senator Alex Antic (LIB SA) separately questioned AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw about the presence and possible use of LRAD devices at the Canberra protest on Saturday.

I watched a video of that interview this morning, can’t find it now. Senator Roberts also asked Commissioner Kershaw if the LRAD devices were turned on, Kershaw took that question on notice.

I must admit that I’m surprised that Commissioner Kershaw didn’t know if the device had been activated or not, he doesn’t appear to be in control of his police force.

I literally just saw this on twitter. The Commissioner pretty much said “yup I’ll tell you which of different types of devices were there.”

I seem to remember too, that when I felt I had to leave here previously, Delta was one of the first to hop in with a view that I had been unpleasant about her leg and therefore I must be good riddance .

I do not intend to defend myself regarding any other aspect of my recent post on DashCat to Elizabeth, but I will address this point as Cat readers would be unaware of the outcome.

Amid the good natured banter and one-legged jokes, Elizabeth made a demeaning remark which I found quite hurtful. I replied that it was in bad taste (or words to that effect) but I did not suggest good riddance. I have never called for the banning of any poster.

Shortly after this, Sinclair e-mailed me to say that Elizabeth regretted her remark and offered an apology. I accepted, and asked him to convey that to her. And I never mentioned the incident again, until now.

Elizabeth, I will not discuss this or any past posts with you. I also do not wish you further stress, especially as your husband is ill and you sound as though you’re coming down, too. However, I will say – and this was the basis of my DashCat post – no-one here is envious of you. You insult the Cats by suggesting otherwise. Furthermore, I doubt that anyone considers you a ‘tall poppy’, to use your own term, nor do they covet your life.

Never forget that the foundational philosophy of the left – in Australia, that means the ALP and the Greens – is that you’re too stupid to vote and that you must be directed to the correct choices by “experts” that they nominate.

Make no mistake: that’s what you’ll get if you put Albo in the Lodge. Think about that if you plan a “protest” vote.

His unilateral modifications of the Emergencies Act are supposed to be debated and voted on by the Parliament within 7 days (which would be next Monday I think). He has apparently stated that as PM he will not allow it to be brought before the Parliament.

My understanding is that unless there is some way for the Parliament to force that to happen the only alternative is to take it to a Judge and ask for a stay until he does, or a ruling that his actions are unconstitutional.

Dear Lizzie
Desiderata
GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Deteriorata
Go placidly amid the noise and waste,
And remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
Avoid quiet and passive persons, unless you are in need of sleep.
Rotate your tires.
Speak glowingly of those greater than yourself,
And heed well their advice, even though they be turkeys.
Know what to kiss, and when.
Consider that two wrongs never make a right, but that three do.
Wherever possible, put people on hold.
Be comforted that in the face of all aridity and disillusionment,
and despite the changing fortunes of time,
There is always a big future in computer maintenance.

Remember The Pueblo.
Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle, and mutilate.
Know yourself. If you need help, call the FBI.
Exercise caution in your daily affairs,
Especially with those persons closest to you –
That lemon on your left, for instance.
Be assured that a walk through the ocean of most souls
Would scarcely get your feet wet.
Fall not in love therefore. It will stick to your face.
Gracefully surrender the things of youth: birds, clean air, tuna, Taiwan.
And let not the sands of time get in your lunch.
Hire people with hooks.
For a good time, call 606-4311. Ask for Ken.
Take heart in the bedeepening gloom
That your dog is finally getting enough cheese.
And reflect that whatever fortune may be your lot,
It could only be worse in Milwaukee.

You are a fluke of the universe.
You have no right to be here.
And whether you can hear it or not,
The universe is laughing behind your back.

Therefore, make peace with your god,
Whatever you perceive him to be – hairy thunderer, or cosmic muffin.
With all its hopes, dreams, promises, and urban renewal,
The world continues to deteriorate.
Give up!

Given that the measure must be approved by both houses of parliament within 7 days or it is revoked that would certainly be an option, but I would imagine the G-G would have to step in at that stage. Mind you, this assumes she is non-partisan. Interesting times for Canadians.

That poem, in its entirety, was a hit in the early 70’s. They played a spoken version in rapid rotation on the radio. It had a profound effect on me as a young teenager.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Strive to be happy.

I would probably exchange the “happy” for “content” given what I now know of life.

I have two favourite poets…the Greek poet Constantine Cavafy and the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda.

Perhaps my favourite poem of all time is this one by Constantine Cavafy.

Ithaka
by Constantine Cavafy

As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon—don’t be afraid of them:
you’ll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon—you won’t encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope your road is a long one.
May there be many summer mornings when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you enter harbors you’re seeing for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind—
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to learn and go on learning from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you’re destined for.
But don’t hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you’re old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvelous journey.
Without her you wouldn’t have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you’ll have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

SAS soldier contradicts Ben Roberts-Smith on crucial detail
Senior Court Reporter
@perryduffin1

February 16, 2022 – 5:36PM

An SAS soldier has contradicted Ben Roberts-Smith on a crucial detail about an alleged war crime killing.

Mr Roberts-Smith is suing Nine and its journalists over a series of articles claiming they falsely accused him of six killings while deployed in Afghanistan with the SAS.

Nine maintains the accusations are true and have called SAS witnesses who they say will back up their claims.

The Federal Court, on Wednesday, heard evidence from an SAS soldier known only as Person 42 for national security reasons.

Person 42 told the court he was part of an SAS assault on a Taliban compound known as Whiskey 108 in 2009.

The SAS had stormed the compound after it was flattened by a massive bomb and Mr Roberts-Smith killed an insurgent with a prosthetic leg during the battle, the court has heard.

But the nature of the killing – either fair fight or criminal execution – has become a central dispute in the defamation trial.

Mr Roberts-Smith has told the court he shot the man with a fake leg after spotting him outside the Whiskey 108 compound.

The ageing insurgent was armed with a rifle, Mr Roberts-Smith said, and was moving quickly when Mr Roberts-Smith brought him down.

But Nine claims the Afghan was one of at least two suspected fighters detained and handcuffed after being found in a tunnel inside the compound a few moments earlier.

Person 42 told the court he was among a group of SAS soldiers who had discovered the tunnel hidden under grass and debris after a group of agitated Afghan women raised the alarm.

His patrol called out in their basic Pashto for the men in the short, squat tunnel to come out with their hands up.

“Some males came out of the tunnel… there were at least two but could easily have been three,” Person 42 told the court.

“They were compliant… they came out unarmed, they came out freely, relatively quickly once given commands – the ‘hands up’ order.”

Person 42 said the SAS handcuffed and frisked the Afghans for weapons and found nothing.

The SAS soldier, in his evidence, could not describe the appearance of the Afghan men from the tunnel or exactly how many men were detained.

Person 42 told the court he did not witness what happened to the Afghans after they were handed over to other SAS soldiers.

Person 42‘s evidence directly contradicts Mr Roberts-Smith’s version of events.

“There were no men in the tunnel … that is completely false,” Mr Roberts-Smith told the court in June last year.

Person 42 told the court his patrol had also found nearby weapons‘ caches including grenades and explosives.

Mr Roberts-Smith‘s barrister, Bruce McClintock SC, said weaponry and opium found at Whiskey 108 proved it was a Taliban base.

“The contents of the material in the tunnel conclusively demonstrate that man was a member of the Taliban, an insurgent, a member of the anti-coalition militia,” he said at the start of the trial.

Nine claims Mr Roberts-Smith ultimately marched the one-legged Afghan outside Whiskey 108, threw him to the ground and executed him with an extended burst of a machine gun.

Mr Roberts-Smith denies that claim and Person 42 was unable to reveal the fate of the Afghans he says he detained.

Nine also claims Mr Roberts-Smith was involved in the execution of another of the Afghan men pulled from the tunnel during the raid.

Nine claims, in court documents, Mr Roberts-Smith watched as SAS soldier Person 5 forced the second captured Afghan down to his knees in front of the troop‘s “rookie”.

Person 5 ordered the rookie to shoot the Afghan dead so the young SAS soldier would be “blooded” – and the rookie followed the murderous order, Nine claims.

Nine says Mr Roberts-Smith was complicit because he did not intervene.

Mr Roberts-Smith denies that allegation.

Two weeks ago an SAS soldier known as Person 41 had also pointed the finger at Mr Roberts-Smith for the “blooding of the rookie” but his version of events differed significantly from Nine‘s.

Person 41 told the court Mr Roberts-Smith had ordered the rookie to kill the detained Afghan – and not Person 5.

Mr Roberts-Smith‘s lawyers accused him of lying on the stand.

“That‘s incorrect – I know what I saw,” Person 41 told the court.

The trial continues.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has engaged an international law firm to investigate a car accident involving the official car of Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The accident, which left two police cars damaged, occurred during last year’s Glasgow Climate Summit, when Mr Brandis’ car reportedly tried to catch up to Scott Morrison’s official motorcade.

The Daily Telegraph reported that Mr Brandis’ car was trying to join the Prime Minister’s motorcade on his final day at the Glasgow Climate Summit in November, when he was en route to a stakeholder breakfast.

The newspaper reported security officers in two Metropolitan Police cars saw the High Commissioner’s official car attempting to join the motorcade and took defensive measures to head off the perceived threat.

It cited a diplomatic source as saying, “George was late and was telling his driver to hurry up and catch up with the motorcade”.
