Who has the greater will?

I wouldn’t gainsay the Ukrainians in that regard.

But they are seriously outgunned.

NATO forces won’t come into it, which is just as well for them.

My memory fails me, but someone on this blog recommended “The Massacre that Never Was – The Myth of Deir Yassin” by Eliezer Tauber.

Possibly the most important book written on the Palestinian cause.

Which is why it has been largely ignored by mainstream reviewers.

Not rebutted…just ignored.

Guilty, M’Lord.

Thank you. Probably one of the most important books written about the whole Palestinian cause – I’d rank it alongside “From Time Immemorial” and Benny Morris’s ” The Birth of the Palestinian Refugee Problem Revisited.” (Morris has a mixed reputation amongst historians – he’s condemned as a mouthpiece of the Zionists by the Palestinians, and a stooge of the Palestinians by right wing Israelis.)

Russia also doesn’t have the economic resources to match the EU in a protracted war

Define ‘protracted’. This also assumes combatants are going to restrict themselves to more or less the current borders.

If Russia starts falling short and identifies resources nearby, they’ll take them from somewhere else. They effectively manhandled their entire industrial base across the Urals less than 100 years ago. Don’t think they couldn’t or wouldn’t do it again.

‘Ooooooh they would never.’ Oh yes they fucking would.

You are correct calli, once I paid my air fare using points and pay the only real extra expense over being at home, is accommodation and for me one meal out a day.

When you consider the intermediary for this loan was an unqualified Pakistani spiv such as Tirath Khemlani, you can understand how foolish the Whitlam government and its minister, Rex Connor, had begun to look.

From the Oz. Did anyone ever discover where Khemlani was getting his billions of dollars from?

Ottawa Police Highlight International Trend of Jackboot Aggression Toward Citizens
February 20, 2022 | Sundance | 479 Comments
We have watched police disturbingly follow orders from federal, regional, state and local politicians throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. So much so, the severity of increasingly brutal tactics from law enforcement has been one of the most eye-opening revelations of recent memory. The most recent behavior by police officers and RCMP officials in/around Ottawa, Canada, reflects this increasingly hostile approach.

There are thousands of recent examples from the U.S, U.K, France, Europe (writ large), Australia, New Zealand and now Canada. What was once rare, perhaps unimaginable, is now commonplace. It is far beyond unnerving to see this descent into totalitarianism, and it is even more unnerving to gain an understanding of how previous horrific events in history took place.

Yet, we must face these issues as they exist, and not as we would prefer them to be.

Unfortunately, the result of their behavior, a behavior that must be seen in the totality of its visibility, has been a significant drop in support from the general public. We have long passed the time when “a few bad actors” could be accepted as the excuse, and we now enter that dark period where most people accept that police officers as a group are the enemy of free and democratic society. Am in Tarbes. Not going to Clermont Ferrand. It’s a ten hour change trains about 15 times train trip backtracking via Nimes and I can’t be bothered. Going to stop next in Angoulême instead.
Tarbes is average for a French provincial town so far, looked nice coming from Pau on the train last time I was here but will go to the resistance museum and another museum tomorrow then L the next day.

Look at this MSM bullshit, from the Daily Telegraph this morning. Here’s my opinion, Martin is a liar and a fraud. This is precisely the kind of verminous lying Liberal that needs to be cleaned out from the party. I’m not worried, this slag called Fiona Martin is gonski in a few months and that will be a good thing, a very good thing. This slag is no different to Keneally. BTW, I’ve seen the whole clip by Aussie Cossack, there were zero threats.

“Reid MP Fiona Martin targeted with ‘threatening messages’ after Simeon Boikov encounter

A Liberal MP has said she was left “shaken” after a “self-declared agent of Russia” approached her with a cameraman and tried to prevent her from leaving so he could ask her questions.

A Western Sydney Liberal MP has been targeted online with “threatening” messages and phone calls after she avoided an “intimidating” encounter at a public campaign event.

Reid MP Fiona Martin said she and her staff were “shaken” after Simeon Boikov, a “self-declared agent of Russia” who produces YouTube videos as the “Aussie Cossack,” approached her meet-and-greet event in Cabarita Park on Monday morning with a cameraman and tried to prevent her from leaving so he could ask her questions.

“We’ve been shaken by this,” she said. She said she had reported the online activity to NSW Police and the AFP.

“There’s a lot of [people online] that are calling our office and sending quite threatening messages on my phone.

“It’s quite horrible.”

Mr Boikov is pro-Putin, and once described Australia as an “enemy state” for its sanctions on Russia.

Dr Martin said she was stopped from leaving the scene on two occasions when Mr Boikov stood in front of her car.

“I couldn’t drive out of the car park because he was leaning over my car,” she said.

“I was held for a period of time, I wanted to drive off but I didn’t want to run over him.”

A Sky News documentary MH370: The Final Search. Stream on Flash Tonight 8pm AEDT.

Dr Martin said she was “advised for security reasons to move” from the event, but was now being attacked by people online for “running away” from Mr Boikov.

“I’m trying to do my job to be available to my community in different parts of the electorate, I don’t think elected reps or anyone for that matter … should be intimidated,” she said.

“I‘m happy to talk to everybody, I listen to everybody … but it’s the way you conduct yourself that’s important.”

Mr Boikov shared several videos of the incident, including one called, “hilarious police operation ordered by Fiona Martin MP”.

In the video, Mr Boikov explains he and his cameraman are planning to go to Dr Martin’s “meet Fiona” event in the park to ask her questions.

Mr Boikov can be seen approaching Dr Martin and telling her he wants to ask her some questions as she walks away from the park toward her car.

“That’s the member for Reid, she’s a coward, she doesn’t want to face the people,” he said.

Photos later show Mr Boikov standing in front of Dr Martin’s car as she tries to drive away.

In his video, Mr Boikov then returns to the park as NSW Police start to arrive, where one officer tells him they are responding to a report of “property damage,” which he then said was a “false” accusation.

Mr Boikov leads the Zabaikal Cossack Society of Australia, a group which supported Russia’s invasion of Crimea in 2014.

He has previously denied any Russian involvement in the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines MH17 over Ukraine in 2014 in which 283 people died, including 38 Australians.

Mr Boikov once travelled to Moscow to visit one of the pro-Russian separatist leaders accused of responsibility for the downing of MH17, Igor Girkin, aka “Strelkov”.

Earlier this month he was part of a delegation of anti-vaccine mandate protesters signed into Parliament House in Canberra by the United Australia Party leader Craig Kelly.

In a statement the Australian Federal Police said it does “not confirm who may be the subject of an investigation”.

Asked about the potential safety risk to MPs subjected to ambushes by members of the public, the AFP said it provides, “security advice to Members of Parliament on a regular basis based on protection assessments and any identified threats.”

Is this The Australian turning green?

Instructions from on high.

Rupert Murdoch’s Australian news outlets plan to dial back climate change denial and promote net zero emissions by 2050, according to reports (7 Sep)

After decades of dismissing the scientific consensus behind climate change and attacking carbon reduction measures, news outlets owned by Rupert Murdoch in Australia will reverse course starting in mid-October, according to The New York Times and The Sydney Morning Herald.

The PR move will also include the Murdoch properties advocating for net zero emissions from the world’s largest economies by 2050, first reported by the Morning Herald.

Almost certainly due to pressure from Lachlan, and especially James, who is green as grass.

Hands up everyone who reckons Putin would have tried this on while DJT was in the chair.

Me neither.

Instead there’s a demonstrably senile POTUS giving the thumbs up, and a Western Europe consisting of a dozen countries desperately trying to out-poof each other. Plus, Putin’s got his hand on Europe’s gas tap.

He’d be mad not to go in, because there’ll never be a better opportunity.

Hi Cassie,

I watched Aussie Cossack’s video. Although I often like his stuff, I thought he was fairly aggressive and intimidating. One female politician with a couple of soy boy staffers being hounded by a bloke who is a pretty big unit jamming his microphone and camera up to the window of her car. The police response was OTT, but he is not exactly a gentle soul is he? Yes, the libs aren’t helping us but Simeon is not exactly being chivalrous. Or maybe I’m old fashioned. Our enemies might be jerks but we don’t have to imitate them. Minor rant over!

Good question. Trump was more unpredictable than Biden is, and Biden has already telegraphed his response to Putin – a border incursion, as opposed to a full scale invasion, will not see NATO troops deployed to Ukraine because it’s not a NATO member & will only draw sanctions as a response.

But I think with Trump in power Putin would have had more hope of the negotiated settlement of the Minsk II Protocol being implemented, so he would have maintained the status quo as a sign of good faith.

And I think Putin has now achieved his main strategic goal – Ukraine will not be invited to join NATO any time soon.

Trump’s actions in office certainly did not favour the Russia’s economy, unlike the actions of the Europeans in making themselves mroe relian ton Russian gas.

But he also knew that Russia is nowhere near the threat to American interests that China is.

Von Clausewitz’ often quoted dictum that ‘war is the continuation of policy by other means’ is actually a misquote. His original quote is ‘policy with other means’.

The difference is that ‘by’ lends itself readily to the idea that war replaces other efforts, while ‘with’ suggests it is another (expensive and very disruptive) method.

If it is ‘by’ then the only resolution would be military and every war would only end when one nation is brought to its knees. That would certainly seem to have been the case with the axis powers in WW2, and perhaps even the case in WW1 where Germany was at the brink of starvation, but earlier wars not.

What would Trump have done? The consummate deal maker I think he would not have let it get to this point. And he would have sought a solution that did not require America to sponsor an agreement that either of the sides would back out of when they thought they had an edge (hello, ME Peace Accords!)

Would he have succeeded? Maybe. Maybe not. But Biden’s and the Democrats were utterly indifferent to the plight of Ukraine until they needed a distraction, and his diplomacy has consisted of nothing more that giving in to the Russians and hoping they would be grateful.

On a different point, Putin has been rattling swords over Ukraine since near the end of the magic negro’s term. Obama sent Ukraine blankets and rations and shortly after left office.

When Trump became President Putin waited until he had his hands full with Russiagate etc. and tried it on again. Trump responded by sending thousands of the latest model anti-tank missiles (among other munitions) to Ukraine. Putin shut up.

Why Canada Will Become a Dictatorship Under Trudeau

Wow. That was not only written in 2015, it appeared in the ultra-lefty Huffington Post, and it’s spot on.

The Liberal Party under Justin Trudeau has become a dictatorship. The leader of that party does what he wants, when he wants, and no one dares question him.

Now that we know that Trudeau runs his party like a dictatorship, we must ask ourselves: is there any indication he wouldn’t do the same as the leader of Canada?

Would a Prime Minister Trudeau arbitrarily whip the vote and outlaw certain moral questions? Could Prime Minister Trudeau be trusted to make decisions for the good of the country, not just for his personal self-worth? Would Trudeau call in the police to enforce his vision?

Let’s hope we never have the opportunity to ask those questions.

Scissors not lethal, Zachary Rolfe trial hears

The “very lightweight, very small, blunt” scissors Kumanjayi Walker used to stab Northern Territory police constable Zachary Rolfe were not capable of inflicting a lethal injury in the circumstances, a court has heard.

The dramatic evidence from prosecution witness and chief NT forensic pathologist Marianne Tiemensma directly contradicts the expert testimony of another prosecution witness last week.

On Friday, military trauma surgeon Keith Towsey told the jury in Constable Rolfe’s murder trial the 130mm scissors “could cause a fatal wound if applied to the right blood vessel”. He spoke generally, whereas Dr Tiemensma spoke about the incident.

Constable Rolfe shot Mr Walker three times after the latter stabbed him with the scissors during an attempted arrest in the outback community of Yuendumu. Constable Rolfe received a less-than-3mm puncture to his shoulder. Mr Walker died about an hour later.

Dr Tiemensma told the NT Supreme Court she had conducted about 2800 autopsies, about 250 involving “sharp force” or stab wounds, and observed “hundreds more” done by colleagues. “Fatal stab injuries by scissors are not common,” she said.

To determine what damage such a weapon could cause, one needed to consider “intrinsic characteristics” such as how sharp it was, the speed of the attack and force generated, and the resistance provided by skin, clothing and other materials.

She said Mr Walker was “partially restrained within three seconds” of stabbing Constable Rolfe. The jury has seen footage indicating Constable Rolfe fired the first shot in that period. When Constable Rolfe fired twice more at “point-blank” range 2.6 seconds later, Mr Walker was “pinned” to the floor by another officer, Remote Sergeant Adam Eberl, who is 184cm tall and weighs 95kg.

“Kumanjayi’s own body weight is lying on his arm, and Eberl is applying his body weight on top of Kumanjayi, so that means that he has very limited ability for the right arm and right hand to move,” Dr Tiemensma said of body-worn video footage.

“It’s a small pair of scissors, so it only expands about 3cm from the hand. So in order to get that relatively blunt, thick tip to any part of Eberl’s body and cause significant penetrating injury, I don’t think he would have been able to generate enough force to overcome all the resistance posed by the covering, into the skin and soft tissue and structures of importance to cause serious injury.”

The conclusion matters because Constable Rolfe’s available legal defences are that he was acting in self-defence or in defence of Sergeant Eberl, acting reasonably in the course of his duties or acting in good faith while exercising police powers.

Constable Rolfe’s barrister, David Edwardson QC, challenged Dr Tiemensma by demanding to know why she was “distancing yourself from the notion that this particular … pair of scissors had the capacity to inflict a lethal injury?”

“Because that is my opinion,” she replied.

The trial continues.

IDF fighters eliminate firebomb throwing terrorist in Gush Etzion (22 Feb)

IDF fighters from the Maglan reconnaissance unit on Tuesday evening eliminated a 13-year-old Palestinian Arab terrorist who threw firebombs at Israeli vehicles on Highway 60 in the Gush Etzion area.

The fighters operated near the Palestinian Arab village of Al-Khader and identified three suspects who arrived at a spot from which firebombs were thrown at Israeli vehicles several times in recent weeks.

The fighters opened fire at one of the suspects, hitting him. IDF fighters provided him with primary medical care at the scene and he was later pronounced dead.

Do please try to avoid throwing firebombs at motorists, IDF suggests gently, it would be bad for your health.

(Maybe a little more forceful action might deter 13 year old ferals here too. Not necessarily rule 303, but perhaps a work crew in shackles picking up garbage and cleaning graffiti for 6 months at a time. That would be an amazingly good deterrent I suspect.)

Any idea how long Canadian governmental terms are?

No more than five years.

I think 2025 is the next election year. In the meantime, there better be a significant (supported/and carried) move of no confidence. I cannot believe I am watching Canada being so royally rooted by that Trudouche brat.

Rex

I’m not sure when he is up for election again. He won a snap election in Sept 2021 and in Dec he said he was going to run for a 4th term. But I don’t know when that happens unless they remove him from office sooner.

I am becoming more attracted to maximum terms of three years…

I am becoming more attracted to the recall referendum.

The Athenians were onto something with that provision, and also with ostracism.

Together they would focus leader’s minds on serving the people humbly.

As far as I can see, only the Lowy Institute has covered it.

Clowns, the lot of them.

Including, sadly, the Lowy Institute. I’ve been getting their emails for years. Very noticeable the downward spiral into boilerplate leftyness.

Thanks Zatara and Roger.

I suspect Justin is a better-looking Kevni, who somehow managed to get the term-and-a-half of complete and total control he wanted instead of being de- and then re-fenestrated by a party afraid first of his attitude, then his replacement’s greater incompetence.

We will probably see Justni continuing to anklebite around Canadian and Western political discourse for decades after his looming and very public failure and removal from office. Just like him of the glasses and Murdoch-obsession…

A man who died after paying a fruit picker to hack off his leg with a circular saw sought out the brutal amateur surgery as he was suffering with crippling diabetes, police will allege in court.

Locals in Innisfail, a town of 10,000 people south of Cairns in North Queensland, woke on Saturday morning to find the 66-year-old man dead outside a fish and chip shop.

Police have charged banana-picker John Yalu, 36, with the unnamed man’s alleged murder – who detectives believe injected himself with a sedative beforehand – and are investigating whether he was offered $5,000 to saw off the man’s leg….

It is understood the alleged victim had diabetes and was agitated about the state of his leg, with foot complications relatively common among those living with the condition.

People with diabetes have a much higher risk of lower limb amputation, often due to wounds or ulcers that don’t heal.

Multiple local residents told Daily Mail Australia the suffering man had asked a doctor to amputate his leg, but no medical professional would agree to do the procedure.

Police will allege the 66-year-old alleged victim then brought his own battery-operated table saw to the banks of Innisfail’s Johnstone River around 3am last Saturday and then injected himself with a sedative.

Then, Yalu, a summer fruit picker who arrived in Australia from Vanuatu last year, took up the saw and severed the man’s left leg below the knee, police will allege in court.

Police then alleged Yalu helped the man back to his car and fled from the scene.

In the 2008 election campaign Sarah Palin said that Obama’s soft foreign policy approach might lead to Russia invading the Ukraine.

Remember when the Jug Eared ‘America’s Greatest Diversity Hire’ mocked Romney with “The 80’s called. They want their foreign policy back.”

Yes indeed, Bruce; but in this instance at least they took the trouble to read the document and offer their analysis.

No doubt Greg Sheridan will get around to it when he’s stopped writing pieces urging Ukraine to give Putin a bloody nose, which is akin to urging a welterweight to take on a heavyweight with a superior reach and combination of punches to boot.

Even if the EVs didn’t actually cause the fire, once it got to them, it would have made the fire far, far, worse.

Seen a couple articles on that issue. Apparently they couldn’t use water on the EVs because so much would be needed the ship would sink or capsize. I recall the fireys have a rule of thumb of 10 tonnes of water per EV. I’d say also as a chemist that using seawater would be bad, as chlorine gas could potentially be generated. So they just had to let it burn out.

Incidentally it comes to a cool half billion bucks worth of cars. Ouch.

Abandoned luxury car ship is still burning at sea – vehicles lost could total £290million (22 Feb)

I admit to not being a lover of the Romanie. Too many cars broken into, bags snatched and Metro corridors blocked for me to exercise sympathy for their victimhood scam. I was pleased when the Paris City council cleared them out of town.
I was therefore probably a little more than necessarily agressive when I pushed away a kid in Florence who had her hand in my pocket. I was shocked, the little scroat almost tore my arm off. Tough girls.

The worry is that on conclusion of his second term 45% of Americans thought he would be remembered as an above average or outstanding POTUS.

I guess that’s the benefit of following someone like George W. into the WH.

On the positive side of my disliked Gypsie culture, they do know how to look after their own.
When the putrid Russian and Albanian traffickers were running out of young girls to condemn to hell in the late 90’s, they decided to go after Romanie girls.
The Balkan gangster population was apparently swiftly and significantly reduced.
